Review Mahamudra Restaurant - Chennai

Loved coming here for a peaceful Sunday morning south Indian pure veg breakfast! The place is tucked away in a corner and you might miss it if not for Google maps navigation. Great place for car parking. Ambience is fantastic for both family or quiet romantic setting for couples. late Breakfast is definitely a no crowd time. Menu is a simple South Indian affair. Idly, Dosa and pongal only. Don't expect a grand menu for breakfast. It is more elaborate for lunch or dinner. Enjoyed the meal and overall experience

The place is well decorated. Love the ambience and the vibes of the place. Food here, though restricted to South Indian varieties only is exceptionally good in taste. The staff are friendly, but the service is very very slow, an issue of understaffing. On a busy weekend night, if you are extremely hungry, go elsewhere. Otherwise the place is a dream to dine at.

Love the serene and peaceful ambience! The food is satvik and very delicious. A beautiful cozy place for friends and families to spend quality time. I only wish the staff with whom we placed the food order were a little more friendly and smiling.....it just gives the customers a more welcoming feeling and it will a huge add on to the lovely ambience Isha life has created.

The menu options stood out of the norms and every dish Said they are healthy and tasty. The restaurant offers very good service and the staffs are quite knowledgeable. Few dishes from our order which are of must tries! - Akki rotting, Godhumai Pulav, methi Pulav, carrot halwa, Pan ice cream. Vazhaipoo cutlet tasted exactly like Ambode from Karnataka.

Very Lively place, quiet and peaceful. Has two big halls for yoga. The store is huge, it has all the Isha products from books to clothing to decorative items. Best place to get Isha products. Really helpful staff. All the information you need about the Isha programs, upcoming events can be found here. You can get your doubts clarified as well. They have an attached restaurant too. Yoga Food and Shopping !

Mahamudra- In the heart of Chennai - Mylapore /Luz, this restaurant is a part of the Isha foundation. They have good buffet spread but we stuck to Alacarte ! Very nice staff and very good service ! The food was very tasty yet healthy! Ambience -5 Food-5 Service-5 Really loved this place and would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a healthy vegetarian lunch / dinner.

This restaurant is a place very you can get healthy, delicious food perfectly crafted for an healthy Living! Service is good ! The quantity they provide is so perfect ! We tried quite a collection of foods starting with Drumstick soup which was in perfect blend, a bowl of ragi kanji served with salad , a cup of Thayir Vadai which was good but the curd could have been more thick, Then a plate of Ela Adai , Idly kebab and also a Thali which was good but too costly. . . All foods was of High quality and a of great Taste but my favorite was Wild Rice Kheer which was an Epic dessert. Its a must try !

Great ambiance, spacious, very well maintained and an amazing place to dine! The ambiance is 100% ethnic and the food served is 100% organic and aesthetics written all over the venue. The restaurant also has a mini hall and a store that sells Isha Foundation's merchandise.

The food was ultimately tasty and i felt healthy eating here. And the service was extremely good. If you want to have good food the isha way this is a must try. Loved this place

Such a good place. The dosa tasted like home made one and the Pongal was sumptuous with right amount of ghee in it. Loved the ambience. Service: 4/5 Taste:5/5 Quality: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5

We were extremely happy with the delicious traditional and nutritious dinner with almost 30 dishes served with great love and care. The staff including those doing Isha service were very attentive and courteous. We had taken our daughter, her American husband and his family traveling to India for the first time. Mr C.C. Mohan the General manager personally supervised, explained and arranged for a small traditional garland ceremony. The ambience and experience was memorable. Our American friends loved it!

It's a restaurant and yoga classes seperately, you can also get their products here, about restaurant it's very tasty and healthy, but the price seems extremely high, a normal combo food is rs.300, if they want to develop their branch need to consider about the price

Very nicely managed, spiritual ambience, food is good, u can do shopping here also. If u really wanna spend some nice time while having food, then this is best place. It will not stir up your thoughts while having food. Here food for good.

Good healthy vegetarian food... There were a lot of options, but we just had Methi soup and vada, and both were amazing.

The food was absolutely revolting. No salt what so ever in any of the dishes. When asked no response from the management. Also, There was no managers during the dinner service. When we complained about the food, the server respond " the pesaratu will be less salty only" and we asked me why the two types of vada, masala dosa, rava dosa and chutney's had less salt and he replied in a very irresponsible manner.
**The tomato soup was over along with the snacks section on their menu by 8:20 PM.** Reckless staff and lack of proper management has ruined this place.
AWFUL PLACE. PLEASE AVOID!!!

We went here for a Christmas special lunch.
Very ethnic ambience.
Wide range of spreads and were very fresh.
Service is very good.
Taste and quality is good.
Must visit this place for a meal.

A calm ambience for a perfect traditional healthy food platter. This is a restaurant by Isha Yoga's Sadhguru, and no doubt they have taken care to include healthy and a variety of simple yet flavorful delicious meals. We went there with my in laws and they enjoyed the food here. We ordered tomato soup and methi spinach soup.Methi spinach soup was outstanding, a must try. Then the regular idli Vada sambhar were also wholesome. The wheat thali that we ordered had a lot of variety of salad, sabji, khichdis, pudding in it. There were so.e nice juices also on the menu which I would love to try the next time, one of them being raw turmeric juice.
The entrance to the restaurant has a nice craft shop too by Isha yoga.
It was a wonderful experience visiting this place.Hoping to go there again !!

All everything super. A must for healthy eating foods.

You can always trust them for some healthy options. The place is quiet and nicely done, lots of greenery around. Service can be slow at times. There is also a boutique that sells clothes and lifestyle products.

One must taste this authentic food moreover healthy .
I'm not a big fan of Ishalife but I absolutely love this place as it envelopes really good vibes. The pleasant ambience and the calmness in the atmosphere makes you forget all your worries. Take a stroll down the beautiful place, it has got lovely antiques and handmade stuff that definitely won't fail to astound you. Food is on point - Hygienic, healthy and tasty. I like the way they serve food - from glasses to that of plates, everything's copper.
Shwarna
Ambience adheres to the concept.
We ordered the kongu festival saapaadu. The host quoted that it's a festival celebrated by the Coimbatore kovai region.
The food was sathvic and low on spices.
It felt like a regular meal being overpriced.
Service was poor. The rice was served cold and we had to ask for extras 4 times. The waiters don't know Tamil and we end up describing the sides that we want.
If the service improves, the money would feel worth while.
P.r. Sivaramakrishnan
While the food taste is decent, it is the ambience that would make one visit this place again and again. The place oozes out tranquility in each and every corner. They also have a wide variety of South Indian food including the millet variants etc. Must visit for ambience and variety.
VeggieCow
Epic fail is the best way to describe this awful place. The staff are utterly useless, clueless and lack training in the basics of service. Half of them donā€™t speak or understand English or Tamil and blink emptily when asked a question. Upon ordering an Akki roti and roast dosa at dinner time we were served the dosa 20 minutes after we placed our order. This in spite of being the first and only table at the outlet. Tables that followed us were served before us. Surprised that a dosa takes forever in Madras. The akki roti never came. Because after waiting for 40 minutes we cancelled it. The staff seemed unaffected and actually brought it to us 5 minutes later. We refused it. And the cherry on the cake. They bring the bill without our asking for it. The food is edible at best. The service is a disaster.
Shri Vaidhyanathan
This place deserves 10/10 for ambience, 10/10 for food, 4/10 for their service. The guy who took our order was totally not interested. One dish didn't have any salt and v sent it back. The guy said they couldn't redo the item cause the kitchen was closing down soon (at 9pm)!! Loved everything else about the restaurant!!!
Geetha Ramachandran
Food is very good..service is below par..the waiters are not trained for their job so much so that they pull out the dish even as we r eating..ambience is ok...pretty expensive as the potions are really small..can increase the potions for the price ..overall ok .. can visit one time
Avinash
Healthy organic food served in a decent ambiance. This is my second visit. Very good place if you want to enjoy food with family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere. We went for lunch, the menu was limited but whatever we ordered was very well prepared. The server was seems tedious. I loved theĀ Raw Turmeric Juice. Overall a good place to eat

The food served here is divine and the place is perfect for a family get together. It also has a yoga studio and an attached store where you could buy isha lifeā€™s products.

Must try:
Wheat thali
Mahamudra special dosa
Kollu/horsegram soup
Coconut ice cream

a great place for a family gathering or family dine out.The food was exceptionally good and the service was outstanding.would definitely recommend
Sree Veerendra
Ambiance is good. Food is good. But service is really pathetic. They say unlimited meal for every item we have to ask multiple times. By the way service you feel like I am asking for food. It is really expensive. For food I can rate 4 but service I can give negative.
Vikram
This is a class act!! One of the few veggie joints I can close my eyes and go for dinner - in terms of simplicity and consistency of quality of food dished out

Great service and a few must eat dishes include the uttapam, the curd rice, the pesarratu, the Kozhukattai, the bajjis. A no nonsense place that delivers !

It is one of the worst restaurant to deal with. They show offers and doesn't honour them. Recently I have gone there with my friend and ordered two thalis. They were listed on Zomato Gold and denied the offer. Collected money for both thalis.

Excellent ambience , healthy food. Courteous staff. Time well spent. Fine dining experience. They have interesting birthday celebration... Check out..

Mahamudra is authentic vegetarian place which is affiliated to Isha yoga centre. Pure vegetarians and healthy food lovers would definitely like this place. The service is okayish. Ambience is good where customers can also shop few products of Isha. Food tasted just like home food but a but pricy for the quantity and type of food.

Disappointing Buffet - Poor Taste and presentation

Ā I had booked for Republic Day special buffet. I must admit we were a bit late for the buffet. But that does not deprive me of quality buffet dishes for which I am paying. They could have at least told us that the buffet is over and they can't serve us. Pathetic buffet spread I must say. The avial had become sour. Raita tasted sour. There was absolutely nothing remaining. Very poor selection of menu and worst taste. After repeated prompting that there were no items present, they provided complimentary dish - Bisibela bath made out of wheat and Briyani made of wheat which was hot and tasted good. Dessert was all bad. Please don't choose this place for buffet. Haven't really tried ala carte.

Pretty good restaurant. Good service and tasty sathvik food. Ambience is nice and very reasonable priced. People who love health conscious, less spicy food, this is the go to place

Went here on a laid back Saturday night for dinner with family. It has a very peaceful ambience and the store upfront that sells some organic and hand made art and crafts. The service and food was just good with wide spread of dosas and idli options. But what was the best? It was the ada pradhaman šŸ˜one of the best Iā€™ve ever had. And I would go back just to have that. P.s that dessert is available only on Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

Authentic south Indian restaurant which offers variety of dosas, idlies, podrige and vadas. Best thing is ambience and hand made things they sell. It's well maintained by isha centre. And their service was the only thing that disappointed me but over all it was nice trying thier food.
Darshana Venugopal
Had a bad experience here although food was good. I went at 9.30 PM on a Sunday for dinner. There was NOTHING except Idli, Dosa and 1 or 2 wheat-based items available here. Even in sweets - nothing except Payasam was available. Even service was slow and even for something like pickle I had to remind at least 3 times.Ā
Food - was good though. Will give credit for that.
Rema Venkatesh
Everything (ambience, service and food) was good except that Zomato Gold benefits are restricted and not on most of the menu. I would like to be a returning customer though and I hope for Zomato Gold offer getting better.
Health food tends to divide people into camps - those who swear by it and those who swear at it. There's a hint of compulsion - that health food is only for 'oldies', who can no longer enjoy the freewheeling calorie binges that the young can tuck away.

At Mahamudra, you'll find families with the youngsters at the table having a look of disdain for the menu - even with vadas, parathasĀ and paneer butter masala featuring in the list. To make up for all those wedges of pizzas, burgers and pastas, they are forced to endure the occasional 'healthy' meal - grin and bear it.

The truth is that if you didn't know that the Bisi Bele Godhi was made from broken wheat, you would not know the difference from the regular bisi bele baath. And the Akki Roti, the Dosa Ballarpur, the Maddur vada or the Rice and Wheat Thalis can beat the so-called 'tasty' foods by a mile. There is no compromise. The control on the amount of oil, the millets, and the spices is evident. The flavours come alive to take your taste buds on a joyride.

Water served in copper vessels, chukku (ginger) kaapi in earthenware all adds to the overall feeling that it's not just decor but little details that play out well.Ā The items served are not part of other standard vegetarian menus - for example, the wild rice kheer - it has none of the oversweet notes normally found in payasam but hints of bran and just the right amount of sweetness. Or the Ela ada, a steamed sweet dish with coconut and jaggery stuffed into flattened rice dough.

The ambiance is another aspect that draws regulars to the place - it's an Indian fine dining experience. A Yoga Studio, a small boutique and a fine collection of cooking vessels with knick-knacks from old Indian houses are all housed within along with publications from Isha Living - but that's an aside.

It is located off a crowded lane in Luz Church Road in Mylapore and worth seeking out. Even if health foods are not really your thing.

Amazing place. Perfect authentic south Indian vibe feels.
We ordered vazhaipoo cutlet, idli skewers, dosa ballapur. Everything tasted good. My favorite was dosa and cutlet. Very yum they were. Idlis were good too podi ghee idli with veggies. This was good too. Dosa ballapur (fenugreek leaves dosa) a Karnataka dish, was amazing with chatni and sambhar. Vazhaipoo cutlet very crispy and yummy.
Service seemed fine too.

If I have to discribe this place in one word, it will be simply "Authentic". Wonderful and original traditional taste, the ambiance, the menu and the service will definetly take you back to those native villages in the interiors of the states. You can even shop home made organic products from their attached boutique.

Heavenly place with the perfect ambience. The music and ambience will make us half full. The dishes were made with authentic South Indian style cooking. Mahamudra special dosa was amazing. Will surely visit this place again.

Waste of time and money. We headed there for weekend lunch with a group, we ordered the Thali which arrived after waiting for almost 1hr. The thali was missing a number of dishes from the list on the menu, we informed the waiter who was not bothered. We paid a hefty price for the thali and were served minuscule amounts of food for the price. Serving staff seem to be clueless and unprofessional.Except the for the ambience, experience was bad.

Been to this place after a so many days of book marking. The ambience has been really good. The food tastes good. The quality is very good. Overall a very satisfying dinner I had along with my family and friends.

Another sumptuous lunch menu.. More than me my parents enjoyed the lunch menu. I chose this place as I know about their menu and my requirements for the day. Dining experience was smooth.
Well there are options for individuals who don't prefer rice. And the food menu connects to traditional cooking style and served to the present age.
Feel this is a good option to break the routine of western dining options and taste the mother land food options..
Vijaya Mirunalini
Best place to eat if you are willing to go for a serene aesthetic and healthy food option.
Located in the mylapore-alwarpet intersection (near Isabella hospital to be precise). I also met actress gauthami over there.
Thali is the best option when u go for lunch. I have been there thrice and loved all the visits.spinach soup, limited thali is like must try.
Be willing to spend more as it's costly.
But worthy cz it's all healthy and organic mostly.yum too!

Food was very good in parts. Ambiance is nice. However, Visit only when you have a lot of time to spend. Very very very very slow and rude service. Sad.

If you want to have a organic healthy vegetarian food then this is the place in Chennai. The ambience is great and so as the service. The food served are all healthy with limited masalas used. A great vegetarian place and highly recommended.

If there is a star less than 1, i would definitely rate this place in that category. I wonder how this restaurant still survives and with the kind of horrible service, should have closed down long back. Chennai people seem to be more tolerant!!! Booked a table for 6 ppl and reached on time. Parking seems to be available inside the restaurant premises, but you come to know only when u scan the surroundings carefully and find a small A4 size printout hanging under a tree, which says so.

Enter the restaurant and there is absolutely no clue no clue on my table booking. Finally managed to get a tavle at a secluded corner. That was the end of it. No one turned up for at least 15 mins and finally after constant waving of hands, the only waiter for the entire restaurant (yes!!!!!) managed to come to take our order. This place was supposed to give us a welcome drink. More on that later. I wonder if Isha Life teaches these ppl to have stern faces. Even a thallu vandi seller greets and smiles nowadays to sell food and these ppl are hell bent on not smiling!!!!

Thakkali soup - The first order from my mouth and its clean bowled ....ā€ will have to check with the kitchenā€ . 5 seconds later. ā€œ Yes sir we haveā€....so ordered thakkali soup and drumstick soup. Taste was ok. But thakkali seemed to be bit spicy for the kids liking.
Chennai addiction combo- a set of 4 items which will not cost u more than 100 rs being sold for 340!!! And again in that idlies were not available. And only then does the waiter reveal the secret that idly based dishes were out of stock! So the kids had to revise the order and order dosa / paratha varieties. Ghee roast was really good and so were the chutneys. And remember, welcome drink hasnt been served to us till now......ordered Akki rotti which was decent and had no complaints.
After this ordeal we decided to step out as quickly as possible and werent interested in desserts. At this point we saw a plate of steaming podi idlies being served to one of the tables (recall that they ran out of idly dishes). When enquired with the waiter, his epic reply ā€œ how do i knowā€ with a good shrug of his shoulders. At this point when we raised the voice he remembered the welcone drink and served us 7glasses. We were happy that it was served at least finally!!!!
Billing was done and again a bug- they had left out the akki roti. After pointing out, without any apologies had added and given the total of 2005. The card swiping machine was there in flat 5 seconds. The only item that had the attention and was served immediately!!!!

All in all, they really made my wedding anniversary a memorable in- all in the wrong sense!!! But still i have to thank them for this as it would be in my memory forever.
The greatest food embarrasment could be proudly booking a restaurant with a great brand name and taking your family only to get a 1000 watts bulb. Mahamudra precisely gave me that experience!!!!

Thank u mahamudra and i will be one of the happiest if this restaurant closes down. Mark my words- the day is not far off. Please avoid this restaurant. There are enough and more great places with a better pricing.
Worst is the least i can say.
A long list of cereals Incorporated in day to day food items, in style. Dim yet warm lit place with kind waiters and great ambiance.

chennai_cuisine rating:
Taste: 8/10
Presentation: 6/10
Delivery time: 20min or so for the Thali
Waiters' attitude: Very helpful; VLOGGING NOT ALLOWED
Seat comfort: Eat and go kind of cushioned wooden chairs. No couches.
Noise level: Moderate
Conducive for: Family

Worst ever service by mahamudra, consider the words of your costumers, dont work on your own. Average time for a dish commonly on all hotels is 15 to 20 mins but they ppl took 45 mins for single dish. Recommend not even to park your car here. Worst service for all
Prashanth Sridhar
Was always kept as a option for special occasions, had a chance to visit here recently on a weekday for lunch. The concept of wheat based dishes were good, food was authentic and tasty. Ambience was tranquil and calm. Service was good. over all I liked the experience but I think the place could do better by catching up with trends.

Short Review:
A decent and quiet place to spend some quality time with family but don't have a high expectations for the food taste.

Detailed Review:
1. Ambience (5/5) - You can feel a pleasant aroma immediately after you enter this place. Definitely a place to go with family or to experience pleasantness.

2. Customer service (4/5) - We haven't experienced any bad customer service, except that they forgot to prepare one of the dishes we have ordered šŸ˜…. Yeah, we got it after reminding them.

3. Food quality (5/5) - This definitely a place for a quality food. But for a good food, quality alone is not sufficient.

4. Food Taste (Only for the dishes we have ordered) (3/5) - We have ordered
1. Drumsticks soup (4/5) - soup is good, could be made a little better.
2. Millet Pongal (4/5) - This is my second time having a millet Pongal. First time in Spencers Velachery šŸ˜… and I expected this to be better than that sample Pongal I had. But nope.
3. Mysore masala dosa (3/5) - This just felt like a normal masala dosa we have.
4. Podi Idly (2/5) - We had high expectations for this, but it's tastes below average. I mean like there are other restaurants which has set a benchmark for podi Idly and I felt this is no where near to that.

A good relaxed ambience, but the food doesn't justify the price. Please check if the a la carte options are available beforehand. We went in and found out that only the buffet was available (650) and that really wasn't a good deal

I was introduced to this place by my friend and I cribbed for not having ishalife in bangalore.
Lovely ambience, positive energy with bright and beautiful orange-yellow color symbolizing positivity! I loved the earthen atmosphere and quiet feeling.

Tasted vada and went again the next day to have their meal. Though the cost is little on a higher end, food is damn tasty. Satisying taste buds with some new tastes!
Looking for a healthy food and exciting tastes? You must visit this placeā¤

Itā€™s just a stones throw away from my house. Mahamudra is owned by the Isha foundation. The place is done up very well with antique showpiece items and furniture at the entrance.
Iā€™ve tried their Mysore masala dosa and capsicum dosa. Theyā€™re okay. The red chutney served along with it delicious. However, the sambar is quite dilute and not up to the mark. The makhmal dosa is as the name suggests, soft and fluffy! The side dish served along with it goes well the dish. Vada kollatalu is a mint and herb based vada. It was good.
Overall, the menu is just simple South Indian food with nothing so fancy about it. They say that the thali meals are quite nutritious and have variety. Will try it next time. But, I donā€™t think that the food justifies the pricing. Iā€™ve had better dosas at other restaurants at half the price I paid here. Service is also quite slow and they need to be reminded repeatedly to bring the food.

āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø for:
Positive vibrations
Tastiness of food
Size of portions
Time to serve
Cleanliness of restaurant
Pricing
Helpfulness of service crew
Value for money
Parking

Mahamudra on Luz Church road is located in very spacious premises that also sells other items. The restaurant is on two levels.

We happened to walk into it for evening snacks and walked out with a rather full stomach and positive thoughts. It was my first time there and I didnā€™t know we would eat at the outlet.

The medu vadai or deep fried batter of protein rich black lentils and banana flower vadai melted in the mouth. Plain dosai roasted with ghee or clarified butter took under two minutes to become one with the self šŸ˜‰

The restaurant was serene and one side had an amazing view of the courtyard - please see pics

Itā€™s common sense that taste of food reflects the mood of the cook and the vibrations of the place. In this case it was tasty and positive respectively šŸ˜€

They use inferior oil. The bitterness after food stays in the mouth for 15 days after dining. The worst quality ingredient used in their dishes. Till date a foodie like me would say that this is the number one place to avoid eating in Chennai. It's a pity they use Isha name and bait the customers. Only the ambience is a bit like a temple and nice. They also do a good show of welcoming you wiith a grand gesture. But when it comes to food, please do not spoil your stomach, wayside Thallu vandi shops are better. I made the mistake of going there first time to celebrate someone's birthday and ensured all spoiled their health. NEVER had such repercussions in life after eating out. For 2 weeks literally had trouble and bitterness in the mouth.

lovely ambience of a earth friendly architecture, good service by courteous staff, tasty and healthy food, loved the place while visiting Chennai for the music season! definitely a must go place for vegetarians.
I would like to call this place a "hopeless" place to dine (to say the least). Run by people from Isha Foundation. This is a place for upmarket shopping primarily.
The place lacks basic taste in food and needs a thorough training of their staff in customer service.

We ordered:

Madhur vada
Medhu vada
Idli wedges
Bajji platter
Malli Dosa
Pesarattu
Akki roti

Loved that ambience food and service..very good for a family dinner.. staff is very friendly and service is quick. Ample options to choose from menu. Sure to visit again.

pathetic to the core... service really _ucks... they themselves don't know whats there available in the menu... after placing order and upon us enquiring about the status of order they tell us the dish isn't available..

trust me, better stay off... not the same where was it couple of years back..

I eat out 2-3 times a week. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had. Food was sub par. Dosa for my daughter took an hour to be served. Had ordered a papaya salad which was never served though the person who had taken the order was "shocked" to realise that and said that "it was already served"... Server was Pathetic with servers having very little to no knowledge about any of the dishes. Paneer Butter Masala had very little taste to be honest. Didn't have the courage to order desserts. Wouldn't recommend even to my enemies. Rated one as that was the lowest here.

This restaurant is a place very you can get healthy, delicious food perfectly crafted for an healthy Living!Ā
Service is good !
The quantity they provide is so perfect !Ā
We tried quite a collection of foods starting with Drumstick soup which was in perfect blend, a bowl of ragi kanji served with salad , a cup of Thayir Vadai which was good but the curd could have been more thick, Then a plate of Ela Adai , Idly kebab and also a Thali which was good but too costly. . . All foods was of High quality and a of great Taste but my favorite was Wild Rice Kheer which was an Epic dessert. Its a must try !

Excellent food experience, we loved every morsel of it. Each one of them were very very unique. Overall the food quality and experience was relishing. We went on a Saturday, so it was crowded and the service was very very slow. I was almost prepared to walk up to the kitchen to get my food, they took so much time to serve, but when they did serve it was hot, so wouldnā€™t complain much. One suggestion for them is to explain the dish as to what it is made up of, so that the customer would relish it more, especially this was missing on the thali dishes, the rest had explanation in the menu card itself. many more visits to go šŸ‘

Terribly slow service, the items on the menu run out too fast. After 15-20 minutes of placing the order, the waiter informs that the item is not available. And you have to leave hungry.

One of the worst customer service i have ever seen... It took 45mins to take a order even when the hotel was free...!!!

The only thing good about tis place was its ambience...

Frequent visitor to this hotel. Amazing ambience and peaceful place to have food. Last time when visited, had dosa Ballapur for the first time, it best dosa that I had. It was crispy and yummy to have

I have been to this place several times. The food is awesome. The ambience is fantastic but the service can be faster. The Thali is sumptuous. My experience with buffet has not been that good. I always find nearly half the dishes empty. They refill slowly. I am not sure whether it is intentional. You need to be patient if you want to try all the dishes in buffet.

Had dinner at Mahamudra and I'm glad to have discovered this gem! We tried the pesarattu, ragi roti, bisi bele, the wheat pulao, the Greek salad and the wild rice kheer. Everything was top notch. The food is very Sathvik - not too many masalas and the ambience and service are superb. Highly recommended.

Best place for spending time to have a peaceful food. Well maintained ambiance, taste of home. Good service and value for money. There are few authentic foods which are the best in here. We loved their red rice appam and fried idly

Mahamudra is a culinary delight for those who love traditional vegetarian food. There are excellent offerings from South India, which in my view are their best options. There are some North Indian and Continental options which are also good, but the South Indian ones stand out at a whole different level. The service in my view is a bit slow, but it suits the place as its normally a venue where you would want to relax and spend a bit more time. The place run by Isha Foundation also offers options for their products and has a wellness studio connected. Parking may be a bit tricky on busy days, so plan ahead.

Not too happy.. extremely sloppy service .. order was not taken properly.. the fritters came after 30 minutes.. no serving plates given!!..a wrong drink served.. even the dosas which I assumed would have not taken much time also took a healthy 40 minutes..
I had asked for my drivers to eat and told the floor supervisor to add their bill to me. Never happened.. when enquired I was told that the guest went out without paying and they are searching for them!!..only when I recanted the whole story and they proceeded to add the tab to me!!!..
There is no leader on the floor .. guess operates without a restaurant manager ..
It is an old building renovated .. can expect some rustics..my younger one saw lizards moving on the windows unusual to see!!..
I AM NOT DOING A REPEAT AND
an advise would be that there are enough and many places in Chennai so this place can be effectively given a miss..

Excellent ambiance with soft music of sounds of Isha playing in the background. The menu is very simple, but the taste is amazing. I visited this place for breakfast and fell in love with the tomato chutney. The masala dosa and the plain dosa were really good too. Even their sambas is delicious. The masala chai was not too sweet in fact was just perfect. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant if youā€™re in mylapore.

Went with a friend of mine for breakfast. Ordered dosa, uttapam and vada. Dosa and uttapam were decent, nothing to write home about but the vada here blew me away. It was delicious and crisp. Bill was around 280 bucks which is fairly decent. Ambience was extremely good. The vibe you get from this place is serene.

A traditional south indian theme based celebration with garland exchange, aarthi, tika and red rice (wild rice) payasam for our 5th Wedding Anniversary with Roshini Venkateswaran at Mahamudra (Isha Life) Chennai.
We ordered the Mahamudra Rice Thali and I must say every dish was delicious. We visited this place today and opted for their Republic Day special buffet. Very disappointed with cold food, empty dishes and very slow replenishing of food on the table. I would avoid it for buffet but may go for their regular menu.
TLDR - Great food, average service

I don't know whether they are understaffed or if I just went on a bad day, but the first thing I noticed was the really poor service and long waiting times. I had to wait an age for them to merely bring water and give me the menu and there was an even greater waiting time for the food. And the worst part was the starters were cold.

But now to the good news, they replaced the starter when I pointed it out and when the rest of the food finally got to the table it was worth the wait. Mouth wateringly delicious rotis, soup, bisibela bath, wheat pongals and everything else was to die for.

Slightly pricey for the serving size, but definitely worth visiting.

If you have a lot of time and people to talk with while you wait, this is the place for you.
The best ambience. The theme and the Silence inside the restaurant was the best of all. A very humble group of people who served food with great love.

What do you do when you have staff's who don't bother to take the order even after twenty minutes of waiting especially when you charge a premium... I guess the first element of any business is you're attitude towards customers, the pleasantness and then comes the service. This restaurant had failed in all three aspects.....after a patient wait and waiter still not taking the order I walked out.. So. I'm not reviewing the food

Friends 2 marks only for the great ambience. Had Ragi roti, Idli and Madhur vada for dinner. Idli was in yellowish color, hard and chill..Those idlis were served with Chilled coconut chutney and hot dhal (so called Sambhar). Same with other orders too.. But service was good. Not a worth place to visit again. Sorry

Recently went to Isha Mahamudra after a couple of years. How the quality has fallen!

Service has always been an Achilles for this place- decent when tables are not full but on weekend or special day, it goes for a complete toss. Can't blame the stewards though, as there was no manager to supervise.

Food quality has also fallen since the days I went there 4-5 years ago. The thali's were a huge disappointment especially for someone who loves the bisi bele bath and akki rotis.

Time to ditch this place!

Kadambari Padmanabhan
Except for the ambience, the service and the food were only average....the service takes too long time....the orders were podi idli, cheese masala dosa, mukhmal dosa, onion rava, Adai and chocolate šŸ« milkshakešŸ„›.... only podi idly and cheese masala dosa were tastier....the rest were too average....adai was the worse food....
Never worth trying this placešŸ˜

Went with a group of 8 for new yr buffet...exceptional spread...never heard of some items presented...must try. Was pretty busy but the staff was good and courteous...worth the minor waiting period. Highly recommended!!

The ambience was very soothing. The quality of the food was good but the quantity wasn't up to the level of expectations. Pricing of the food seemed a little high with respect to quantity. Akki roti is a must try. Over all, a decent experience.

First we were made to sit in one table and within 2-3 mins we were asked to get up as that table was reserved! Didnā€™t they know that it was reserved beforehand? Average food... staffs were courteous but not really attentive...our waiter forgot one of our dishes and we had to wait for 20mins just for one dosa! And when I thought the place had a nice ambience, i saw a rat coming out of the kitchen/store!!! Never going back there!!

Have visited this place a couple of times, a few years apart. Found the experience enjoyable on both occasions. The ambience is nice. Special recommendation for the lunch buffet which has some of the best, home-styled Indian food on display. Try customised south indian dishes that you won't find anywhere else, health-cooked. No dish is over the top, just the right amounts of cooking oil to ensure that it's healthy and tasty as well.

After much expectations we landed here on a sunday noon.. crowded.. and so many foreigners too..
Thought it to be really good
But there is nothing more disappointing than this experience.. the look gives u very hyped feel..
Buffet was terrible no choice of food and most of the counters were empty most of the time..
Drumstick soup was pleasing and bottle of tulsi infused water on table served in copper glasses was impressive but seriously food is no good.
Ive had better healthy food at very mess in the city that too serving healthy food (i.e raagi kali and kambu koozh with keerai and other truly healthy food) at jus 70 bucks a plate..
This was 600 plus 5%gst.. horrific experience..
Yes we dont mind paying our hard earned money for food not jus for ambience..
Please visit the place if u have money to burn..
Nothing special abt the whole experience.
Definitely wont recommend it or even think of visiting again..

We hosted a dinner on the first floor of Mahamudra for delegates of a National Conference. All our guests were highly appreciative - of the ambience, service and most of all, the food. Multiple courses, choices and offerings made for a delectable meal. And Mr Mohan capped it by giving an explanation of all the food items. All in all, a rare treat.
- Lakshmi & Sriram Panchu

I loved the concept of healthy options.. It's good to go back to our roots and culture of healthy Indian food options. we have become Americans than Indians. Today's food options were not only healthy but also tasty. I learned something new about good healthy options that I can add to my eating habits. Thank you team. It was a memorable experience..

This place is a part of Isha yoga centre. The food quality, taste, quantity is amazingly great, given that they serve healthy food. Diet conscious people would love this place. You should definitely try the mahamudra thali it is worth every penny. Elderly people would like this place the most.

Went here on a holiday. Nice ambience.
Food was great but of the items we ordered the masala in the rava masala dosa was stale which I could smell halfway across the hall! No kidding!)Ā

AND, I came to snack here but ended up having dinner. Such was the delay. The delay time could have well been used for makingĀ fresh masala, which in turn could have prevented this review!

We enjoyed our treditional food.. in chennai here only we can have whild rice geer its very nice one. if any one ask me about treditional food then i will sugest mahamudra.

Had akki roti and aloo paratha, the paratha was undercooked. The taste was OK. The ambience was good and service was quick and courteous. Price is on the higher side. If it can be brought down.. Will be a good restaurant

It was a unique restaurant of that type inside the city. Though it is located in prime location the display wasn't big enough to identify it quickly.
You need to cross a few sculptures and a mini art galary to get to the restaurant.
It took sometime for us to get a seat, lunch didn't have much varities except buffet. Onam buffet was special there, the varities prepared was very soothing for stomach, pineapple kootu and spinach thovayal was to be mentioned specially. Payasam was as expected and good to finish with.
The way in which the food was displayed wasn't up to the mark and not getting a seat quickly though seats were available shows the service was not upto the mark.

An authentic South Indian restaurant with a wide range of variety food to offer. The place is very sophisticated.
We had ordered Idly wedges - A blend of south indian taste with junky funky outer. It was crisp.
Kothamali Dosa - A plain normal with kothamali in it.
Topi Uthappam - Though it didn't have any topi on top of it. šŸ˜œ
The service was quick and very good. A recommended South Indian restaurant to be in your wishlist/bookmarks.

For a buffet with only south Indian items, the price tag was too high. Taste was okay, nothing to complain. Service and ambience were good .
