Review Nal Unavu - Coimbatore

ADISHANKAR
This is a small but great restaurant with a unique menu consisting of all healthy food dishes made from millets and other organic items. Contrary to what one may think, the dishes are tasty too. And looking at what we ate and what the final bill was, the rates are also reasonable. Most of the dishes can be shared between 2 or 3 people and ordering 2 nos of a dish can suffice for 4 people. They accept digital payments like UPI which is cool. Nice place. Would definitely like to come again.

Great traditional food. In the sense for health. Truly this kind of foods help keeps us healthy. Also taste is good. These are the foods our forefathers had and were very healthy. Night dinner has quite a good menu to choose from. Should appreciate the person who owns this restaurant.๐Ÿ‘ Better should bring our kids here for dinner than to any junk food restaurants. They will have a liking for this food and be healthy. Should teach our kids the importance of our traditional foods

My regular dinner place off-late.. Vazhaipoo Chilli and Vazhaipoo Butter Aapam are my favourites. You can eat way more than your capacity here and still trust that you wonโ€™t feel uncomfortable later. The oil and ingredients used are so good. Separate dining rooms for veg and non veg customers.

One among best homely style restaurant in coimbatore serving millet based tasty food items and I really liked the food and their ventilated dinning area. Typical homely cooked items supported by good chutneys and sambar. People looking out to try different food definitely drop in this place and taste their food .

The best in coimbatore where u can get only ancient traditional food like KAIKUTHAL ARUSI and MILLET rice. Sambar, payasam, roasted oil less pappad, rasam ...

Went into this place in the night post a shopping spree. The experience was beautifully layered. What I mean by this is, 1) I went in and was delighted to see the roof, tiling and other furnishings reminding of a traditional setup. 2) Then I saw the menu and felt surprised if it was possible to have these combinations in good. 3) Then the food itself - So good, light & calming. Just a note - it's very easy to over indulge. I tried the Pumpkin Halwa & Sigapu Chola Paniyaram and loved it! :) 4) The service - Was surprised to see the waiter wear a hair mask/guard. Sadly, I don't see many other restaurants following this. But seeing the waiter wear a hair mask gives a sense of cleanliness. The waiter was polite and hospitable too. My Instagram: @thefitstellar

A real authentic South Indian food is one that uses ancient grains native to Tamil Nadu (Millets), no/less oil, no meat, that is healthy, tasty and satisfying.

Really good. I went with my family. Lots of millet variety dosa . Natural and home-made food. I think it's time to start encouraging these kind of our traditional food which got extinct these days. Moreover my grandparents where very happy because they used to have these food in their childhood and felt nostalgic ...No more words. Stop reading this reviews and taste the food soon than wasting time in reading reviews. Make you heart and taste bud fulfilled....

Fantastic lunch. Was tasty as well. Felt like home cooked. If you are looking for a sumptuous yet healthy meal in coimbatore their limited lunch options are highly recommended. Do try the tender coconut water-betel leaf juice..

One of the safest food to have with no harmful effect to the stomach. It is almost very subtle and also very light. The service was exemplary. Really happy with the service provided. Cost wise is also very cheap. Overall a good pure veg restaurant

Visited here for a lunch. For lunch they had only 2 options. One is full meals of hand pounded rice and another one is like a mini lunch which consists of a 3 various millets rice dishes. To my remembrance we had Banana flower rice, Sambar rice and another one variety rice. They also give fresh butter milk Ragi Kali and curd rice of another millet variety. The food tasted really good but the only thing disappointed me is that the quantity of the food. It will not be enough for more than a average eater.

Nal unavu provides one of the most healthiest foods. This restaurant is for all the health conscious people who do not prefer eating white rice. The food is prepared using millets and hand pound rice

Used to be a regular at this place. Took family, friends & Colleagues too. Usually did lunch have seen the owner( i guess the one at the cash register is the owner) always at the restaurant, she never greeted us or made eye contact, Have been wanting to try dinner but, got to doing so most recently. To our surprise there were very few items, nothing "new" or paarambariyam about the menu. I ordered the Paniyaram; when it came i see that was the most disfigured & discolored paniyaram i've ever seen. When i asked the "chef" who seemed like a very young bihari about why it is the way it is he justย nodded & walked up to the owner. After what seemed like a brief chat with him I could see the lady's face burning :-) she walked up to me & barks what is your complaint? I repeated the very same thing i said to the Bihari dude just so if he has miss communicated anything due to language differences.ย

She bluntly says this is how paniyaram is, what do you want? By this time she is being loud & highly disrespectful. My family wanted to leave & not return again. but, I did want to voice before I walked out. I flipped all the paniyarams & said see it is burnt on one side & under roasted on the other. Here; she hits me with a shock, in a very restless rude tone she says if you touch it I can't serve it to others!!!!! As much as I don't want to eat burnt food I definitely don't want to eat food that was rejected from another table for quality reasons. This explains the quality & hygiene control at this place. Never going back. Highly discourage delivery or take out Wonder what they pack, probably leftovers from others plate???? YUCK!!!!!

Don't miss the food in here if ur ever get a chance to visit เฎจเฎฒเฏเฎฒเฏเฎฃเฎตเฏ.. Truly it's not just good food but a delicacy.. If possible try each dosa they offer and the sevai too.. Ilaneer vetrilai juice is a unique taste.. I'm so happy that i took my mom here who has been criticizing me for my poor choice of restaurants... She was really happy and thanks Nal Javu.. Worth mentioning that the rest room was clean and neat

I feel that this place is highly underrated. It should atleast be a 4+ instead of the meagre 3.2. Delicious food made put of millets!! Nothing to complain!๐Ÿ˜Š

This is a delightful little restaurant that I stumbled upon yesterday. The ambience is simple and rustic with comfortable seating. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The food is completely based on millets and particularly impressive was the corn based paniyaram, corn dosa and the elaneer juice (coconut and betel). Highly recommended.
The only drawback is that parking is difficult and you will need to park a little away from the restaurant and then walk to it.

If food is supposed to comfort you and make you happy in contrast to meticulously made gourmet, this is the place to be. The lunch includes several types of millets served with Pappad, Buttermilk and Payasam. Loved the "Ragi-Pulikulambu" combination. The "Tender coconut-Beetle leaves" drink on the menu is a must try. Copperware adds a nice touch. Ambience is okay. The service is excellent and it needs a special mention. Simple food always wins :)

Dining at this restaurant for me was personally a delightful experience. The restaurant serves regular as well as millet based vegetarian food wherein the items are surprisingly wholesome and quite delicious. The restaurant started a year back and is picking up well.

The decor and ambience is simple and somehow reminds me of an ashram like setting which is quite nice.

We had lunch on one of the days in which hand pounded rice along with regular accompaniments of a South indian thali was served. There could be more variety included in terms of the vegetable curry. I enjoyed the payasam (kheer) which was a real winner. The lunch felt amazingly light on the stomach and I didn't feel groggy and bloated which usually happens after you have eaten at most restaurants. I love wholesome food which is nutrition rich and it lived up to its name.

For dinner there are again regular and millet based dosas which seemingly take on a good combination with vegetables added to them like foxtail millet and plantain flower. I must say i drew some inspiration to try it out at home.

The food served is great value for money as well. The staff were good but need to be a little proactive while serving as it took forever to get some extra helping.

Overall if you are into eating wholesome food this is a restaurant you must definitely try.
Just went here yesterday. Good service and a healthy variety is available. Price is decent and they have a juice made of coconut water and betel leaves, which is an absolute delight and can only be found at this place. Worth a visit.
