Review Nanjai Virundhu - Coimbatore

Balu Sivaraman
Weekday lunch. It was a real virundhu on a banana leaf. Three varieties of chicken, three of mutton and two of fish served with amazing chicken biriyani and soup. Couldn't finish all that was served. Finally there was payasam and ice cream. NOTE: Virundhu non veg thali available readily for lunch. Need to order in advance if you need virundhu for dinner. Otherwise, only tiffin served for dinner. Weekends seem to get crowded - will be good to book table in advance.

Brilliant place. Their concept is based on "Kedai virundhu"..a rich tradition down south where close relatives and friends are invited for a lunch and served delicacies cooked using different parts of lamb.. head to leg. You don't need to be hungry to eat here. Just the excitement, the aroma, the look and the taste of more than 20 items served here will make you eat . The personalised service telling what is served on the table and how to eat them - which one first and which next, their ability to differentiate the innumerable varieties of lamb and chicken and fish cooked... Brilliant. Hats off. If you need a different experience.. this is the place to go. Very family friendly and can see lot of college kids and office goers too. Suggest you take your guests and surprise them. Your guest will remember this place and food for a long long time. Hats off to the promoters.

The food was very good. Right from the soup till the ice cream, everything tasted great. It did not have any side effects and they don't use artificial taste makers such as ajinomoto etc. Worth to visit for having a good meal! Pre-booking would b better!

We four doctors from Hyderabad attended a medical conference at Coimbatore from 23rd to 26th June 2016.we went to this place on 24th. Food is fantastic. They received well and served affectionately. Range of items is excellent. Owner kalidas and his brother are friendly. We were very happy with the way they received. We recommend it as a nice choice for foodies.

Can improve the service and they are serving us the item only in spoon and and if we ask repeatedly there response is not so good quality of the items are good but quantity should be increased

Ambience was okay!
Had a very bad experience with the meat , two mutton dishes were served (mutton chops and Thalakari) which had a very raw meat essence !
Tomato chicken and Eral thokku was pretty good

Overall the food was a one time try and the service was pretty good !

A must visit for every non vegetarian lover., a quiet place with a homely touch. Gets your taste buds going. Couldn’t find much fault with any of the food items. Some of my favourites were the tomato chicken, turkey masala, Kudal fry and the pepper chicken. And the finishing touches with ice cream, beetel leaves and thaen Mittai bought back school day memories. 4/5 coz the fried items like quail and fish were underwhelming. But overall had a satisfied meal and will visit again. Kudos 👍🏽

Fill your tummy with yummy and delicious non veg meal ,this is what I feel after each visit to Nanjai virundhu .People think that it’s bit expensive but I personally recommend this restaurant because it provides the authentic non veg food with out adding any artificial colours or flavours.

Great food , Pleasent ambience , extremely friendly service ... If you are lover of traditional south Indian non veg varieties ... Do not miss their "ratha poriyal" and other curries .. Their Biryani and chicken gravy is out of world...

Vegetarianzz do pre book Ur order ... They make exclusive veg varieties on pre booking ...

And do not miss their curd rice with gulkandh n their dessert varieties ... " Then mittai " , "Kamarcut "...

A delight for non vegetarians. It's preferable that one makes a phone call before heading so they are prepared and don't fall short of food. The ambience is great. No matter what you don't eat, do not miss mixing curd rice and gulkhand in the end.
Must visit.
Warning- Vegetarians strictly prohibited.

If ur a nv lover and fond of traditional south indian feast, then this one is a must try.
Their chicken biriyani and semi gravy sides will definitely impress ur taste buds. However they had very little option for fried items.
Gulkand + curd was a deadly combo! With kambar kattu, vethala paaku and thaen mittai to finish, ul wonder if ur still in cbe.

Pros : Friendly service, ample parking space, calm ambience.
Con: Strictly not for vegetarians, they literally watched us eat!

We had a very good gesture they welcomed us inside and they guided us for the hand wash, asked us what we would like to have and they served us chicken soup which was really good, after which they started with boiled egg, tomato chicken, chettinad chicken, nattu koli chicken fry, Blood poriyal, Mutton varuval, Mutton keema, Fish Varuval, Kadai fry these where the dishes served chicken briyani was really good and the taste is awesome, the place was very clean and maintained well and the service was totally good they asked us suggestions about the taste and feedback to improve it going forward. Last but not the least we where served ice cream with kambar katt and ginger barupi which made the exact final ending. Worth for Rs 500 can enjoy a very good food taste. Must try..

Visited on last Sunday. They have good car parking. They offered nattu kozhi soup which was really good than other big restaurants. A very decent place to eat. If you are non veg lover, then this place is for you. meat which is served doesn't have much oil that is added advantage. They served more than 8 items the taste is average, because we couldn't ask anything for a second serve.Sweet and salt lemon juice was bad,do not order any juice items. For two person, with juice charged Rs.1040. If you are having complete meal then it is worth for money.Their pettikadai box which offered thenmuttai , coconut candies and other stuffs. When I opened those boxes, I could see many houseflies. So desert part they need improvement.

If you want to eat like hulk{In TN style}then this is your place to go. OIL less food. But it's bit expensive for the varieties they provide.
They charge rs350 for one time serve which is really costly. It's better to take the whole meal than half.
Service was totally great!
And atlast dont forget to taste Gulkand with curd.
The combination was so delicious.

After my first post I got so many suggestions about many places one among that is ‘Nanjai Virundhu‘. I usually don’t prefer eating out when I am home as I love home cooked foods, but wanted to try some place in Coimbatore, to add in my food journey. This place sounded more like home cooked food, so chose this place for a Sunday lunch with my brother. It was 10km ride from my place and the path took us away from city, the roads covered with greenery gave us a cold welcome in a hot Sunday afternoon.

Good concept but fails to treat the taste buds. Chicken was just boiled and fried with different masalas to make different recipes. Same in the case of mutton items. Chicken kulambu and mutton kulambu was tasteless masala water. They serve gulkondhu with curd rice. It was very good.

Does not have a genuine taste. You ask for a full meal worth @ Rs. 450, and then you are at their mercy for second helpings. Can be avoided

A Complete non vegetarian feast is the concept and it does ring some bell when we see their detailed menu they serve a lot of meat and the pictures in social medias looked promising too.
Went here for a gettogether lunch the ambience is good they have air-conditioned indoor seating which can serve a maximum of 30, though it isn't crowded I recommend booking in advance to avoid waiting, they do also have outdoor seating.
The 'Nanjai Virundhu' started with a cup of Naatu kozhi soup which was spicy as expected followed by Ratha(blood) poriyal, kudal fry, Mutton chops fry, chicken pepper fry, Naatu kozhi fry, kaadai fry,Muyal(rabbit) fry, fish chilly and prawns pickle; And the main dish chicken biriyani, white rice with mutton curry, chicken curry and fish curry.
Though they served a lot nothing is worth mentioning every dish tasted average and we don't even mind asking for a second serving of anything. And the curries served for the white rice is below average only life saver that day was the fish gravy and fish chilly.
'Nanjai virundhu' is just a feast to the eyes not to the taste buds.

Not bad. You can try once. You need to be patient for food. Service is bit slow. Taste is ok. Nice ambience. You can realx and enjoy the place

This All in Virundu is a must try for any heavy hitting foodies. 400 bucks for a full leaf Virundu is absolutely worth it. The taste is also very good. Must go there when we are really hungry and enjoy the Virundu forgetting modesty. 😜
