Review Idli Kadai - Coimbatore

MDS
As the name goes, it stands for the same . IDLI the most popular South Indian food .u can find in every book and corner , but there are some who mastered the art of making nice and perfect idly . Some are in the line of that list .Idly kada is one among them, here you can find fine idles with a pack of 8 chutnies . Also the ambience is quiet and nice . No dine in due to corona lockdown.Apart fro idly u also can find various South Indian dishes Parking is not a problem. And nice place to enjoy with family

Good place to have lunch and dinner. South Indian meals may not be available for lunch after 2.30pm. But Chinese items will be available at any time. Nice seating arrangement. Nominal price.

Though the name of the shop is idli kadai ,idli varieties are available only in night. For lunch south indian meals is served on banana leaf. North indian dishes are served on order from a dhaba behind.

Names says Idli Kadai, but you can get all south Indian varieties. The Chutney Tray with 5 varieties is uniqueness of the hotel.

Taste is good. Ambience is good. Value for money is also up to the mark. But service needs improvement.

Service still not improved. With just 5 out of tables occupied, they still struggle to serve. I don't think they know how to manage a restaurant. Repeat customer fail. Not coming back.

Had been to this hotel for Lunch on a saturday.... for a " thanjavur meals " as they claimed ... but as one of the worst experience.... very limited options were made available... and they were not keen to enquire as well..

the experience of meals leaves a lot to be desired... be it curry / sambar or rasam.....

Took more time to deliver the food. Incorrect order and they charged more in the final bill. Save your time and money. Ambience is not cool and it doesn’t have ample parking space.

After seeing the images in Zomato, I really wanted to try this place and visited this place once to have breakfast. After dropping in I waited close to about 15 mins and nobody attended my table inspite of the fact that there only 4 others dining inside and staff's kept roaming inside the dining area. Hygiene was very bad. The tables were not at all clean. Hospitality is the first thing to get it right for any restaurant and this one failed.

The idlys are great - soft and fluffy - the idiappam is just right and a couple of chutneys - the tomato and peanut are very good. But the rest especially the sambhar is a let down. They are very reasonably priced and the service is also good - but except for the two chutneys mentioned, they need to improve the rest.

We visited this place to try the idlis with the multiple side dishes. But unfortunately there was no service at that time and we had another option of chaat. Loved the cheese sandwich and sev Puri. Rates are reasonable

Ambiance - 4/5
Service - 5/5
Taste - 4.5/5

Absolute worst restaurant I've ever been to in Coimbatore. How this place still survives is beyond me. It's a place where the waiter proudly says "our shop has only a single idly in all our orders sir". Of course it'll be okay if they idlies were of the size of a small plate. It totally wouldn't be okay if they were the size of the bangles worn by your neighbor's cute daughter who goes to 1st standard next year. Perhaps we can still excuse it. What we can't excuse is the fact that a butter idly apparently means the said sized idly "touched" with a tiny tiny piece of butter and that's it. That's it and it costs ₹25/-. Oh wait! I can possibly still excuse it... If only it were eatable. I drenched a mini idly (of even tinier sizes, mind you) in Sambhar for half an hour (not even kidding because my next order took 2 hours to not come in the end and I need a time pass till then) and it didn't even take a little bit of it inside. They must liquid proof their idlies. So much that you can use them instead of Nerf darts and they'll be more painful.

Did I tell you that my order of Schezwann noodles never arrived even though the waiter kept asking if it did? I thought he was the one who's supposed to know about it. And finally When I cancelled the orders, they were only too happy to oblige. Wow!

Total waste of 2 hours. 10/10 would not even recommend to my worst enemies.

I wonder if this restaurant is still open , to start of food - 4* Exocet this , their service will literally take half an HR to process a single order . No proper management . No profesional trained staff . - don't get excited if u see the security personal coming and serving .

To start it, I had a sleepless night, and then a really hectic day at work. By the time I reached this restaurant, I was brain dead (I stayed at White Castle, which is the hotel by this restaurant).
The moment I arrived into the restaurant, I knew I was in for a treat (looking at the chutneys). I ordered for 1. 1. Pani Puri which was good
2. Idli Munchurian- this was brilliant
3. Podi roast (Podi dosa) - probably the best dosa I've ever eaten. Thick, yet crispy. A perfect dosa has a new benchmark for me now!

The total bill with a bottle of water was lesser than Rs.180/-. This visit was a brilliant end to a rather forgetful last 24 hours!

Even though I want to give a good rating to this place I just cannot put myself through that . The first thing you would notice when you walk in is the long thin white tray with cups of chutney on it . Seemed like a good start . A nice way to attract customers. We ordered the hot jalebi which was very good and freshly made but that's the only positive I can think off. We ordered a lemon sevai and a veechu parotta to take home with us and it took us forever to get our parcel. The time it takes for you to get your order is an irritation in itself but it is amplified by the fact that the air conditioning which was working was still not good enough to ventilate the place . We were waiting to get out of the place . The dishes are reasonable priced but coming home to eat the food we found out that the kuruma that goes along with the parotta was basically flavored water. It did not resemble a kuruma at all . Highly disappointed. The staff were not bad . They were helpful but they couldn't so anything that would have made my experience better. I am not sure if I want to go back ..

I never expected such a hospitality at this tier two restaurant , truly a amazing dishes with mouth watering support menus . It's a paradise who loves to have a South Indian dishes with difference .

Absurd is the word which I would use to describe this place. Below average food. Decent service though. The only thing which was out of the box was the types of sambar and chutney's they served, which were below average in taste again. Would recommend skipping a visit to this place .

This place seemed to be okay from outside but it was a huge disastrous experience which I had recently. The interior is normal looking and they have a small parking space too.Their menu has both South Indian and North Indian varieties.
So first we ordered Kung Pao mushroom and then went to main course with Idly,Finger idly,Chetinadu idly,Butter idly and Mushroom sevai. We got the idly and butter idly in few minutes after we placed the order. The waiter came again and told that they have more orders for starters and their Chetinadu idly and Kung Pao mushroom might take some time so he suggested us either to wait or replace the order with something else. So,we ended up ordering few dosa varieties, Paniyaram and Ragi porridge too.We told them to increase the fan speed of the Air Con but the staff told that it is not working well.We told them to bring the food soon as we were literally sweating. The dosa varieties came after nearly 15 minutes but we had to finish things soon as we couldn't sit inside without good ventilation. We had to cancel Paniyaram and Ragi porridge which still didn't come even after we finished the dosa.Seriously how long does it take to bring a Ragi Porridge which is already made! We told the waiter to bring the bill but it was printed with dishes we canceled earlier so we directly went to the counter and we paid for what we ate.

Overall the food is average and I have never faced such a bad experience in my recent past.

Worst experience ! Not worth to be listed on zomato . no cleanliness and no hygiene . Very rude staff . Found Insect in sambar ( feeling disgusting to tell detail ) .Will never visit again .

Nesanth Balasubaramaniam
3.0 only for 8 types of chutneys. The main dishes were average. Need to have some more dishes exceeding Roast,Idli's.And items were too oily.
Lalitha Gautam
Awesome varieties of chutneys around 10 varieties with south Indian fav tiffin varieties...Idlys of different varieties n dosa n appam n much more...n its a pure veg..
Srihari Bala
Been here. Very good South Indian food. Authentic. Had 8 different chutneys for an idli. The hot jalebi was crisp. The service can be improved
Karan Shroff
I wouldn't suggest this place. Chutneys are sour ! The mushroom roast was uncooked. The staff was not keen on refilling the chutney and sambar.
Ronak Dand
A very good place to visit. Definitely worth a try.
Just as you sit a tray with 8 varieties of chutney n sambar is placed which looks delicious ?.
Tried almost all items with my family. As the name suggest idly's were soft and spongy. Appam could be improved but Ghee dosa tasted very close the one we get at Annapoorna.
Experiment with idly Manchurian was successful. Unexpectedly cheese pav bhaji was very yummy as well, one of the best at this price.
Interiors can be improved but given the taste and price everything else can be overlooked.
Definitely worth a repeat.
