Have been going there as a family for three generations. It is hands down the best in Coimbatore. They make their own puris which others can't match in quality.

It may not be to everyone's pallet but Babu's pani puri is home to me. I grew up eating it. I grew up with Babu uncle's kindness filled chaat items. He may have passed on, but his legacy, the chat shop, the taste and quality lives on. Having tasted and relished his food for over 3 decades, I can stubbornly say this is one the best chaat food in coimbatore.

Best pani puri shop in Coimbatore. Whenever I visit CBE never miss to have at least 2-3 plates. I have been the Customer for last 7 yrs, but never felt the difference in taste. This shop always maintain their best standards and quality.

Hope to have a branch in Tiruppur, so that I can have the pani puri daily.

All the best and success for the team.....

Coimbatore Review #124
Too much hype from the review I saw.
Expected a lot.
Decent place for pani puris.
I've had better pani puris from roadside vendors.
Anyways, puris were soft and the masala wasnt too spicy which was disappointing. The jaljeera and the sweet sauce were good.
But not upto expectations.
Ambience 1/5
Service 3.5/5

This is probably the oldest Chaat vendor in Coimbatore, and for several decades used to be a street vendor. Now they have moved to a more permanent shop. My extended family members have been eating here for more than 60 years! the Masala Puri is their signature dish, and I have never found its equal anywhere else!

I guarantee you will not be able to stop with just one plate. I usually eat 3-4 plates when I visit. The Bhel, and Pani puris are quite good too, but the Masala Puri is Divine. Comfort food at the pinnacle of perfection.

Over 60 years ago Babu's father introduced his Chaats to Coimbatore. Old timers remember him as a street hawker who carried an ornate basket with Chaat supplies and make his rounds in the old town area. He apparently would set the basket on the ground and with relative ease set up a chaat shop anywhere. Freshly made fast food prepared to order at your doorstep. Children and adults would rush with plates from the household, and flock around him for his Masala Puri. With mechanical precision pick, crack, fill, serve till everyone around had ingested 7 globes of heaven. Followed by - Round 2.............3......................4......... - You get the picture.

Babu continued in his fathers footsteps, and for the best past of 40 years dispensed the same heartwarming goodness from a cart with a wooden frame with clear glass panels on top. Like his father he stored his supplies in covered containers with only the consumable product landing on your plate - Made to order in small batches. We used to go there with water, plates and towels, and swarm around Babus' production line. At times he used to employ an assistant. Mostly it was a one man show, which was performed like clockwork. Apart from catering to customers, washing plates, chopping onions, clearing trash and a variety of other tasks all done and dusted SOLO. A constant stream of customers ensured sellout evenings, and barring rain spoiling the show, have never seen his cart around past 9PM at his regular location near Sri Krishna Sweets, on one of the side streets off DB Road.

This present location happens to be within a couple of minutes walking distance from there and is a more permanent shop with a shutter, a few plastic chairs, a prep counter with Babu behind it, with his son assisting (some things are a family tradition you see) and another assistant, disposable plates, a bubble top of water, and little else. The place will not impress, there is no glitz. Even the sign on his shop hides like a Chameleon; placed there almost as if just to guide in the regulars who flock there for honest food perfected over decades. A humble and honest eating establishment!

Babu scarcely needs new customers.

Oh! and why is that?

Its complicated!

Its a "Zen and the art of selling Masala Puri" thing!

Huh! Whats that?

Another old family tradition - When you are sold out go home and chill !

P.S. - These days Babu sells out before 8!
