Review Kunga Restaurant - Darjeeling

Debakar Sarkhel
Kunga Restaurant in Darjeeling is truly a hidden gem, offering an authentic taste of Tibetan cuisine. The chicken cheese steamed momos are an absolute delight - heavenly goodness encapsulated in every bite. The flavors are beyond compare, making it difficult to remember any other momo experience after trying these. Beyond the momos, their noodles, thukpa, and pork items are equally impressive, boasting an awesome taste that lingers on the palate. The authenticity and quality of the Tibetan foods served here truly make it a must-visit spot.

A small restaurant with amazing food. It's a small place, accomodating 24 around people at once. You may have to wait in line so keep a lot of time in hand while while visiting. We ordered, chicken cheese momo (had big sized 10 pc of momos with delicious taste), american chop suey (this is my second time having this dish in my life and I must say this one was very tasty) and chicken thukpa (they gave 2 bowls and said they divided one serving into 2). Chicken cheese momo steamed is a must try. Beware that their portion is a lot.

Kunga is without any doubt the best restaurant in town. This place serves amazing Chinese and local foods. The place is open from 10am to 6pm, and accept only CASH. Situated few yards from Keventer's, this is one small eatery with limited seats and one needs to wait for atleast 20-30 mins before entering here. We ordered atleast 20mins before entering while we sat outside and after entering they gave us the food almost after 10-15 mins. But, OMG, what an amazing food that was!! 😍 We ordered chicken momo, pork fried rice, chili pork, chicken garlic and chicken thentuk. IT was undoubtedly the best momo and fried rice that I had ever tried. Other items were equally amazing. The price is very less compared to the taste and quality. In a place full of Keventer's, Glenary's and what not, this is one hidden gem that has different level of food. It is for sure a 200% try, if someone is coming to Darjeeling. Don't even try to miss it for anything.

Had their famous pork momo and thukpa and loved it. Had to wait for 1 hour to get a table as the place is very small. Nice cozy atmosphere with great food. Must try.

Small n cozy place. Chicken fried momos was very crispy n juicy. Best fried momos in Darjeeling. Beef phing dry was also good but pork wonton soup was average ( i would rate 2.5/ 5 ).

One of the famous restaurant in Darjeeling. Taste of the food is really good. And nothing to say about the quantity, one portion can be shared by 2-3 person according to individual capacity. Variety of food option is there. Service is also very good. But 1 problem that everyone might face there is that, the place is very small. That's why you can feel a rush hours in that place and there is also a wait line to enter. Takeaway also available but dine in is recommended from me. Overall ratings:- 1. Food- 10/10 2. Quantity- 10/10 3. Price- 9/10 4. Service & Behaviour- 10/10 5. Ambience- 7/10

A little cozy space, ... Lightly decorated, runned by a family itself.... Had authentic flavour of nepali and chinese cuisine... The momos are out of the world... A highly recommended place for hangout with friends and family ☺️.. It's for sure whenever we visit the place it serves the same...

One of the famous tibetan restaurant in Darjeeling mall. If you want to taste some authentic tibetan food then just visit there once , you'll definitely love. Let's come to the food quality and quantity, both are so good. One portion can be shared by two people easily. Their service was also good. I would highly recommend cheese chicken momo, chicken wanton soup. I forgot to take photos of the momo coz it's taste heavenly. You can get takeaway from there also but I would recommend dine in option. Only one draw back is the place is very small. If you're think to having lunch there please go before 1.30pm.

A must visit food joint in Darjeeling. Serves excellent Tibetan food. No complain in quality and quantity. Everything is top notch. Place is a bit small and try to visit it before 7pm.The place shuts down at 7pm.prefer the breakfast time to avoid rush.

One of the famous tibetan restaurant in Darjeeling. Food quantity and quality both are awesome. Taste of Momos are awesome. Service was also good. I would highly recommend cheese chicken fried momo.
Utsav Bhattacharya
One of the best momo I've ever had in my life. (I've had a lot of momos in Darjeeling, Kolkata, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Leh).. The price is a bit expensive but the portion size is sufficient. The owner was really friendly and helpful.
Chaitali Halder
It was an amazing! experience. And the food quality was awesome. Cheese chicken momo it was the best momo i have ever tried in Darjeeling. You all can try the cheese chicken momo. It was the best dish of this restaurant.

A small restaurant with cosy atmosphere, with limited seatings. Yummy, mouth watering food is served. There is que and menu card is passed on. They hand over a paper where we should write the dish we want to eat. Once seating is offered, in 30mts hot piping food is served. Quantity of food is heavy. We ordered veg thukpa and they provided 1/2 thukpa. Wai Wai is yummy while momos are lip smacking. To complete one glass of fresh lemon juice gives you the feeling you have eaten more than required. There is takeaway while for non vegetarians this place offers best food at a very nominal price.
Shamik Lahiri
A must place to visit for Tibetan food. The taste is immaculate and portions sizes are huge. We weren't aware of the portions, its basically 2bowls for 1portion for thenkuk, glass noodles. So keep mind the portions when ordering. The momos are full of stuffing. It was like a whole new experience of momos. And its super affordable. If you are planning an early morning visit just know that it opens at 10.

excellent!! after a day of traveling a heartwarming meal here is all we needed! but they only accept cash. we tried Mixed Tenthuk ( absolutely delicious!) , phing noodles with soup, chicken cheese momo ( don't miss this!)

My favourite restaurant in Darjeeling. Whenever I visit in Darjeeling. I do have lunch. All the items are there great. And my favourites are mixed Thukpa , American chopsuey , lemon honey tea.
Madhurima Santra
Perfect place for Tibetan food. With reasonable price. Stuff are so polite. Food are amazing. ❤

An awesome place to have authentic Tibetan foods. They server very tasty foods. <br/>Only drawback of that place is the space inside this restaurant which is very limited. One need to wait for longer time to get seat.
Tanisha Roy
This place is known for serving some amazing Tibetan food. They have a variety of options related to the stuffing. This was the chicken shaphaley, they also had a pork and veggie one, so lots to choose from. They were crispy and tasty and the sauce accompanied with it was on fire.

A bit over hyped, not worth the hassle. <br/>We waited more than an hour to be seated. <br/>Since its tiny place, managing reservation is much needed. The restaurant literally has no way to manage their reservation. Where as there could've been many ways to handle like writing down names, giving token etc. But they are not bothered. total chaos outside. Then someone appears and they let them in ahead of us and we are wondering whats going on. <br/>Coming to food. Apart from Momos, we didn't find anything great. <br/>Overall a bad experience that too off season. I am not sure what must be happening over there when tons of tourists are coming.

Everytime I visit Darjeeling, Kunga is a must for me. I have tried almost everything from there menu and all of them are amazing. Specially chilli pork, beef chilli is a must try and their mixed fried rice is the best thing on the menu. The staff is very friendly and service is fast. Food is hot so let them know if you want it to be less spicy.Cheers!

Kunga is definitely a hidden gem of Darjeeling. If you love to taste authentic Tibetan foods, then this place will never disappoint you.<br/>✴️ Location : This small restaurant is located on the way to Ramada from Keventer's just beside the taxi stand.<br/>✴️ Ambiance : The dining of the place is quite small but well arranged. Hygiene is properly maintained. If you are group of two, you may have to share the table with others because of the huge rush.<br/><br/>✴️Foods : We have ordered for main course only,<br/>☑️ Chicken Fried Rice<br/>☑️ Pork Chilly<br/><br/>The foods are being served within 10 to 15 minutes. Both the dishes tasted superb. Chicken fried rice was the best fried rice I have ever tasted in my life. It was full of veggies and chicken along with a delicious flavour. Pork Chilly tasted finger licking good. It was spicy, tangy and yummy. The quantity was enough for sharing between two people. Quality was good enough.<br/>✴️ Service : They serve foods very prompt. The lady who was serving treated us with a big smile 😊. They serve a notepad for taking the orders and you have to write down what you are ordering for. They only take cash payment. Prices are comparatively low than the other renowned restaurants in Darjeeling.<br/><br/>So, if you are in Darjeeling and you love to explore your taste buds , then you should definitely try out this budget friendly small restaurant.

It is a small place serving authentic and tasty Tibetan cuisine. Because is it so small, expect a crowd waiting outside the gates.<br/>But the service inside is fast and very friendly staff. I ordered Chicken glassy noodles, Mixed Thukpa and beef momo. All of the dishes were spectacular.<br/>Also, must try the Lemon tea with honey, it's superb.

When it comes to the food in Darjeeling, it amazes me how people always stick to Keventer's and Glenary's. Nothing... absolutely NOTHING short of "heavenly bliss" comes to mind when you get the true taste of 'Queen of the Hills' inside the Kunga Restaurant. You've got to earn the food here! Quite literally. The place is small, and if you don't have the patience to wait outside for a good 15-20 minutes, you don't deserve the goodness that awaits! And when you get a seat, order anything that's there on the menu without any apprehension. There is not a single item on the menu that can drop your hopes even by a percent.Just make sure to order in moderation. Their portions are quite big, and you'll be proven wrong if you think a plate of any item is not large enough for two people. They will pack what you can't finish though! So when you're in Darjeeling next time, make sure to visit Kunga (it's right in between the Clock Tower and Keventer's). And one last thing... the restaurant timings are not correctly listed on Zomato. It opens at 10 am and shuts shop by 6:30 pm.<br/><br/>with Monalisa Chakraborty

Tiny little place but popular with locals and tourists if u are looking for the red meat zone...the amount they serve u is humongous..so order carefully..<br/>i had their mixed chow...fried rice and chilli beef... the best i have ever had.. succulent pieces of beef ...<br/>waiting eagerly fr my next visit ...

As I had never tasted their local cuisine earlier, it was a great experience to have it. We liked the food. The service was quick & the place was clean.<br/>However, we were on a family trip. The place was nice and they had a hard time accommodating all 5 of us.

An absolute delicacy at the heart of Darjeeling serving the best dishes at an extremely affordable price. The restaurant specialises in TIBETIAN CUISINES.<br/><br/>Ambience: A small place with a seating capacity of 10-15 people. Minimally decorated and polite staffs compliment the smooth service at the place. The owner is also good.<br/><br/>The food we tried-<br/>PORK STEAMED MOMO:<br/>10 pieces of large sized momos were given in a plate. The momos were filled with ample amount of meat and tasted great. The best steamed momo I ever had. Soup wasn't provided with it. A must try tibetian delicacy.<br/>THUKPA:<br/>The mix thukpa had all types of meat in it and sufficient amount of noodles with a really tasty and healthy soup. The quantity of a plate is sufficient for 3 people. It was delicious in taste as well.<br/><br/>Altogether a great food joint in Darjeeling. A must visit for everyone. But one thing should be kept in mind that you might have to wait for 30mins to get a table in rush hours.<br/><br/>Happy fooding!!

Absolutely yummy food!! Kunga offers you the excellent quality food and in generous proportions. One main and one side will suffice for 2 people. The place is almost always crowded and that is because they never lower the quality of food. Service is pretty fast but sometimes you may have to wait to get your seat. If you are in Darjeeling and looking for Tibetan food this is a place not to be missed. One more point they don't serve dinner (atleast as on Jan 2020)so if you are looking to visit Kunga please come by lunchtime or by early evening.

They didn't even tell us when is it closing. We are sitting inside the restaurant, it's not even past 6pm, we call to order and they say kitchen is closed. Very rude staff. Didn't even take one noodles dish order saying the kitchen was closed while I could still see food being cooked in the kitchen! How rude of the staff to say like that. Also, they had cockroaches coming out of the table. The thenthuk soup smelled. I can't even stop complaining. Totally a waste of money. I don't know how these people have this despicable place even open!
Sanjit Kumar Chatterjee
Had their egg noodles, mixed fried rice and other chicken preparations years back as a child when I had last visited.

Discovered this amazing restaurant at Darjeeling! Pork momos are heavenly!

I went to this place after hearing a lot of hype. We had ordered fried pork wai wai and chicken cheese momo. I felt the wai wai wasn't fried enough rather it had more gravy. Also coming to the chicken cheese momos they were really tasty but i found hair inside the momos. A BIG turnoff. I had a lot of expectations from this place but alas it wasn't a good experience.
Utsav Moitra
Very nice and cozy restaurant. Get there early as it fills up quick. Food quality and taste is delicious. Staff is very courteous.

Just beside the clock tower, Kunga is one of the best restuarant at Darjeeling.. Darjeeling is popular as Queen of Himalayas.. And when the temperature is very cold, this restaurant will give you a perfect start... From momos to thukpas, and other Tibetan and Nepali foods..<br/><br/>I have tried their best mixed Thukpa (chicken+beef+pork)

It was an awesome restaurant. It is run by an old couple and the service is excellent. Usually the restaurant is crowded. We had veg momos and egg gyathuk and chicken gyathuk. The quantity was more than enough and food was too tasty. I would give the following ratings<br/>Service 4.5/5<br/>Quantity 5/5<br/>Taste 4.5/5<br/>Hygiene 4/5<br/>Overall 4.5/5

When you hear the name Darjeeling, the only thing which comes into your mind, in the first place are it's Momo's. Luckily, we got to know about this place, from a local cab driver on our last day of tour (and I really regret that, if I knew it earlier, then things would have been different).<br/>This place is pure gem, located right in the heart of the town. (Near the clock tower, and mall road).<br/>We had their -<br/>▪️Chicken Momo's.<br/>▪️Sweet Corn Soup.<br/>▪️Veg Fried Rice.<br/><br/>The quantity is enough for two people, and in our case it was enough for three people. The veg rice was so sufficient and was loaded with too much of vegetables, that we didn't had any side dish. The Momo was juicy and mouth watering. They serve 10 pieces of Momo's in one plate, which is truly enough.<br/><br/>The owner of this place is so sweet and kind. Also, the staffs who were serving us. Good food, plus amazing people make one's day! Cannot wait to visit Darjeeling, again! And to try other dishes in this place! ^_^

Busy restaurant, and popular too.<br/>Tried Tenthuk here for the first time and was pretty impressed at the quantity they served at the 1/2 bowls.<br/>Momos are good too.

Bang near the watch tower in Darjeeling is this cute little restaurant located. Known for its authentic Sikkim dishes, Kunga is a delight for momo lovers. They also serve dishes like thupka and thentuk along with Chinese cuisine. Perfect for brunch lunch or dinner. A rocking place indeed. A must go for any traveller.

The food is tasty, authentic Tibetian taste. However, the foods are bit expensive. The place is small but cozy. You will get a taste of hills here.

One of the best Tibetan and Chinese restaurant of Darjeeling. If you are in Darjeeling don't miss Kunga. The price may be seems little bit on higher side but taste wise it's awesome. Do try their Momos, chowmin and fried rice. All items are damn good and quantity is more than enough.

If you are in Darjeeling and you do not visit Kunga Restaurant then I guess you're visit is incomplete. This place is one of the best in town for Tibetan and Chinese cuisine. I have many favourites here but if I you're looking for great pork momos then this is where you should go to. The other dishes I recommend from this place are thenthuk, bhakthuk and noodles.

One of the best place to eat Tibetan food. This place is recommended by local people of Darjeeling and surely it is worth to visit. It a small restaurant near the mall road. Sometimes it is packed in the evening.<br/><br/>I ordered momos, chicken thukpa and lemon honey tea. All the dishes were really good but I really like thukpa. It was fully loaded with vegetables and chicken. The filling in momos was also tasty.<br/><br/>The staff is really good, friendly and polite. The portion of food was great and worth the money. One should definitely visit this place.

A trip to Darjeeling is incomplete with out a meal or two at Kunga Restaurant. They specializes in Tibetan and Chinese dishes and you can blindly order food from the menu card, any dishes. My top picks are : Pork/Chicken momos, Thukpas, Dry Chili Pork, Schezwan Noodles and Sweet and Sour Chicken.<br/><br/>The pocket pinch is within budget and the food tastes great. This restaurant is run by the females of the family owning the restaurant and they keep an eye on almost everything from preparing the food to serving it on table.

This place HAS TO BE on your checklist when you visit Darjeeling!<br/>Usually full on any given day, this little Tibetan restaurant is right beside Planter's Club, opposite to Keventer's.<br/>We went and tried the chicken and cheese momos which were absolutely delightful.<br/>We couldnt stop ourselves and ordered Chicken thukpa.<br/>The quantity and quality are really good and worth the money.<br/>Loved the warmth the place was reverberating :)

A rainy day in Darjeeling when you wish to dine to some authentic Tibetan food you definitely should try Kunga located in the main Mall Road. The seating is less & its always crowded. The food is made by ladies of the family owning the restaurant. I definitely liked the steamed momos, the thuppa the fried rice. The spicy red chatni served with the Momos is worth dying for. However I was badly disappointed with their chilli pork, American chopsey. So my suggestion is when you visit this restaurant order food accordingly.
Dr. Paromita Adhikary
This place serves authentic and delicious Tibetan cuisine at a very affordable price range. Momo, thukpa, soup, wonton, noodles, meifoon are very palatable and refreshing in the cold and chilly weather. There are various chicken and fish dishes which are very tasty and some of them contain veggies also. Ambience is good and friendly. Though the seating area is small and the place attracts quite a crowd, service is pretty fast. Most probably, this place is owned and run by a Tibetan family. A must visit place. Definitely recommended.
Avirup Paul
It’s a small place run by a family but one of the must tries when in Darjeeling !<br/>Their Chilli Pork is to die for !<br/>Other items I had were chicken noodle thukpa, wanton soup, Chicken Fried Momos.

During my visit to Darjeeling, had this customized chicken-pork platter at Lunga. Must say.. An excellent service inside a cozy sitting coupled with wonderfully coocked noodles and fried rice with vegetables, egg, chicken and pork. There was chilli chicken and chilli pork as side dish which enhanced the taste of my taste buds.<br/><br/>Wish them all the gastronomic success!<br/><br/>Will definitely dine at this place again when I am in Darjeeling.

We went searching for local place for authentic food...and followed reviews to reach here..and werent dissapointed at all. The place is a family run.. and we were advised well what to order. Quantity is pretty good. You can try the gyathuk if ordering for the table. The usual hot and sour that we are used to.. took a new meaning with fresh ingredients.. no soy sauce..and amazing taste. Momos, chilli chicken and rice were also outstanding. One could taste the love with which the lady of the house cooked, fresh generous ingredients..at a great price.<br/>Must visit.<br/><br/>

If you live Tibetan good and happen to be visiting Darjeeling then you should visit this place. With not more than 25 people to accommodate at a time, this place is like a temple. Yes, you read it right.. it's like a temple, with minimal decor, where the largest space is dedicated to the God here, tat is, the live cooking station. Run by an old Tibetan lady with her husband and son they are anything but commercial. So much so that post 6.30PM even if people come with pots of money, the old lady in-charge of the kitchen hangs her boots, her husband says 'no' to the customer and the son requests courteously to come the next day.... That is what we did, and it was worth. It is easily the best Tibetan food I have had. Can give Michelin star restaurants, fine dining restaurants and some of the best restaurants in five star hotels a run for their money. We went twice, had momos, soup, mixed noodles, gravy noodles and thukpa. Wish we could have been their everyday during our stay at Darjeeling. For a foodie, it is not a restaurant but a pilgrimage.

<br/>Kungaaaaa !!! Kunga !!<br/>Kungaaaaa !!! Kunga !!<br/><br/>As always we were on a road trip enjoying the journey rather than the destination.<br/><br/>But, and it's a BIG but, we were yearning to reach Darjeeling, but not for the scenic beauty it has to offer ( don't get me wrong ! Though overcrowded and chaotic it's still the queen of the hills ), but to 'hog' on "Pahari" cuisine @kunga.<br/><br/>05/06/19 12.45 pm<br/><br/>Q : " Where can i find a parking ? "<br/>A : " A little ahead, Mam !! "<br/><br/>This was what we were subjected to for the better part of the last 15-20 mins post reaching Darjeeling. After wading through a lot of traffic, we finally managed to park our cark near the Mahakal temple.<br/><br/>A strenuous 15 minutes walk, up and down the stairs of the Mahakal temple, through the mall, we finally reached the restaurant only to be informed that there's a waiting time of around half an hour. While waiting we decided on the menu and made the order so that there isnt much of a delay once we are seated.<br/><br/>We ordered<br/><br/>Pork momos<br/>Pork phing<br/>Dry chilli pork and<br/>Nepali pork curry with white rice.<br/><br/>And oh my my !!! We were in for a gastronomic ride and an extremely delightful one.<br/><br/>Pork momo - soft, juicy, stuffed with filing, umami... Wat else would you want from a momo... Undoubtedly one of the best pork momos we have had so far.<br/><br/>Pork fing - neither my words nor the picture can do any justice to this simple yet flavour packed dish. You will have to try it for yourself to feel it.<br/><br/>Dry chilli pork - one of the simplest chilli pork i have had so far. Nothing fancy or complicated went into it. Other than tomatoes which i have found in most of the dishes around the hills there was nothing out of the way that went into this. Yet it was so good.<br/><br/>Nepali pork curry with rice - this was the star of the day. The curry was packed with flavour. Rich on corriander and a leafy green ( probably spinach or water spinach ) this tasted like heaven and trust me i wanted to stay in that porky heaven. This is a must try.<br/><br/>P.S - Somek ( a movie buff, traveller, renowned food blogger and the man behind Kolkata Food Trotters) it was lovely meeting you there in Darjeeling. Am glad that i took your suggestion and tried. The beef sukuti from Mohans. It was a gastronomical delight. Next time it's going to be the pork thaali.

It is an extremely well executed family project I must say! The place is really small and crowded most of the time. So you have to be in a que to be seated, but it is worth the wait. They serve the best momos in Darjeeling. Freshly steamed, piping hot...just melts in mouth.Their thukpa is full of veggies and meat. The aroma of the broth is heavenly. They also serve traditional glass noodles, meat ball soups and other tibetan foods each of which is equally delicious I guess. This is one gem of a place in Darjeeling.

Best Tibetan food!<br/>We ordered chicken wanton soup, chicken momo and chicken chowmin. It was great.<br/>Coming to ambience the place is much small...and you have to wait outside before you get an entry into the restaurant.<br/>Staff was much cordial and supportive.<br/>The only disadvantage is the accomodation....but a must visit if you are in Darjeeling.

Kunga Restaurant in Darjeeling is highly recommend restaurant for Tibetan food. I ordered my all time favourite mixed non-veg Thupka. The food was fresh and delicious, but the servings are so generous so plan your portions properly before ordering. The restaurant is on Nehru Road, a small place with very average ambience but one of the best places to eat. .

One of the best place for pork im Darjeeling. You can have your lunch here. Small interior but food is good. For me you should give it a try.

The best and most authentic place to have Chinese - Tibetan food in North East India is this place folks! Undoubtedly the best. Momos were love! Good balance of quality, quantity and taste to cost of food. Small place though, you may have to wait for your turn to order and eat. If in Darjeeling and Chinese lover, do visit Kunga lest you are missing a great spot then. Images below are of the resturant, Chicken Thenthuk Soup, Chicken Wai Wai Soup, Chicken Steamed Momos and Veg Steamed Momos.

A very small place for food lovers. They mainly served lots of Tibetan foods and juices. People mostly visit here to enjoy Tibetan foods.<br/><br/>Ambiance : Small place but well decorated (4 out of 5)<br/><br/>Service : Staff are very helpful and well trained. Had chicken momos steamed. I would not say it was extra ordinary. I have had better tasting momos in the past. Seating for maximum 12-15 people. Otherwise its fine.

Outstanding Tibetan Food!!<br/>It only 3-4 years ago that I got initiated into Tibetan Food. And oh boy! Am I in love with it or what!! I absolutely regret having wasted 2 decades of my life not having ever eaten Tibetan Food, such is my love for the cuisine now.<br/>When in Darjeeling, I dropped by Kunga, the ambience isn't much to talk about since it's as basic as it can get. But the good food surely makes up for it.<br/>We ordered a variety of Tibetan Dishes and loved almost all of what we called for.<br/>Personally I loved the Shapalay, Shapta with Tingmo, the Momos, esp. The fried ones, the Thukpa, the Thenthuk, et al.<br/>Definitely dropping by again, whenever in Darjeeling.
Vartika Sisodiya
I visited this place on my trip to Darjeeling. We were eager to try out some great places for momos. Try their chicken momos. They were nice, not great though. Do not visit if you are a pure veg since they cook pork, chicken in the same utensils.

Right in the heart of Darjeeling is this awesome Tiberian restaurant. The food is amazing and the service even more so.<br/>I had Cheese Steamed momos in which the cheese had melted. The sauce with the momos was at a different level.<br/>Being right in the middle of Darjeeling, the place is slightly noisy<br/>Food 5/5<br/>Service 5/5<br/>Ambience 4/5

Kunga is a small Tibetan food join in the heart of the Darjeeling market, next to Ramada hotel. Timings on zomato says 8 am to 9.30 pm. But the place takes the last order at 6.30 pm so please ensure u go before 6.30 pm. Since we reached at 8.30 pm. The food is simply amazing! I think I have never had such Tibetan food before, the poke momo’s were very flavourful and juicy, the thukpa, the noodles everything was very delicious. Please note that the quantity is huge, a plate of mono serves 10 giant momo’s so be careful while ordering. And the price is extremely reasonable. The quality of food is very good too, I say this because I was the last person to leave the restaurant and even the people working were having the food cooked from the same kitchen !

This place is my favourite. I make sure to try the exotic Tibetan stuff here whenever I visit Darjeeling. The food is cooked in the authentic style and tastes amazing. The ambience is nothing to mention and it remians mostly crowded with tourists, but it is the food and the warm hospitality that matters.<br/><br/>Some of my favorites from their menu are :<br/><br/>• Pork Momos - the momos are huge and is stuffed with a juicy stuffing. You take a bite and juice literally oozes out of it. One of the best momos I've ever had.<br/><br/>• Pork Thenthuk Soup - the soup is mild and flavourful. It is loaded with flat noodles, veggies and pork.<br/><br/>• Pork Wai Wai - The fried Wai Wai is an absolute delight. It tastes brilliant. This is one dish I'll always keep trying from this place.<br/><br/>• Pork Chopsuey - The Chopsuey tasted great. It was full of flavour. It had veggies and lots of pork.

Ordered veg fried Momos and egg spring roll. Good taste. Momos were very big. I couldn't eat them all so had to get them packed. However, relatively expensive.

If you ask around the town about the best local food, everyone will tell the name of Kunga and rightly so. It is a small cafe but for its cramped up seating it makes up for its smiling service and outstanding food. Its truly Tibetan.<br/><br/>What we ordered:<br/><br/>-Wai Wai Soup Style : terrific. Bowl of wholsome goodness. Apart from the noodles itself, the broth was so flavorful and it had many veggies. Was served up hot and steaming. Would suggest order 1 portion for 2 people<br/><br/>-Cheese Veggie Momos : BY FAR THE BEST DAMN MOMOS I have ever had. They were just phemonemal. The taste was excellent. The dough was excellent. The size was really big and they came out fresh and steaming.<br/><br/>-Hot Coffee : I don't know why but I just loved the coffee here. Maybe it was the entire experience of eating here but I enjoyed everything at Kunga.<br/><br/>

If you want to taste some real authentic tibetan cuisine, Kunga is the place for you. <br/>It is a small place with 5-6 tables and is always crowded. <br/>I went to this place and had pork momo & pork chilli.<br/>I am never a big fan of momos, but I totally loved this. The outer covering was very thin and the inside meat was juicy.Lovely.<br/>Pork chilli was also very good. The quantity is also very nice and is sumptuous for 2 people. It is a perfect blend of sauces along with onions& garlic.<br/><br/>A must visit if you are in Darjeeling.

I was visiting Darjeeling on a weekend. Friends recommended me to some flashy food outlets, but I was in search for good Momo and other authentic Tibetan food. I was walking down the chauk Bazar where I could see a restaurant claiming it makes the best Tibetan food and I bet you, this is The Best. I ordered a bowl of Chicken Thenthuk soup, Chicken Momo and Beef wai wai. I did not waste taking pictures of the food coz I was very hungry. I hogged them up as quickly as possible. The owner is a humble gentleman and the people at the kitchen are the pioneer of Tibetan cuisine. It's a go to place if you are visiting Darjeeling.

We went here twice in the four days we stayed at Darjeeling! <br/>It’s a small restaurant with around 6 tables....sometimes you’ll have to share a table if it gets too busy. <br/><br/>We tried the veg thenthuk, spring rolls and veg momos. They were all really good. The thenthuk was definitely the highlight....the handmade flat noodles are cooked to perfection and the broth is very flavourful too. The springrolls are huge but taste good. The veg momos were nice too but I think the filling contains potato. We also tried the black tea and lemon honey tea. Both of them are good. <br/><br/>The staff are warm and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place to all those visiting Darjeeling.

We heard a lot about this place. Finally went there for lunch. We had ordered veg wanton soup and chilli pork. The soup was good. But I found the wantons a bit chewy. I did not like the taste of the chilli pork there. I don’t know about others though. The place is tiny. Their hospitality was good.

If one truly loves food, he should visit this place for sure.<br/><br/>Ambiance: Small food joint with few tables. The cooking section is open. The tables are embedded with menu charts. The walls and ceilings were marked with traditions.<br/><br/>Food: We ordered, chicken Corn soup in half portions and one chilli beef. I can strongly say that it was the best soup I have ever had. And chilling beef was a relish for the taste buds. 10/10 for food.<br/><br/>Service: Service is very good too. The place remains crowded most of the time but the behavior of the didis are very sweet and cheering that one would not mind to wait long.<br/><br/>

A nice little place tucked in the lanes of Darjeeling, this place is absolutely amazing for it's Asian and Thai cuisine. So, if you are trying to drop in at this place, go near Keventers and ask around a bit. BTW, this place is run by a family so you feel the warmth of love in their food.<br/><br/>We ordered Pork Thukpa and Fried Pork Momo.<br/><br/>Thukpa was very good and it was something unique to me. Probably the best I ever had. Those in the big city can't really match this.<br/><br/>Fried Momo was great as well with no oil dripping from them. So after a point you won't feel tired of having them if you don't like having a lot of oil. The portions for both of the dishes was most fulfilling and we had to leave with our hands on our tummies.<br/><br/>Don't leave Darjeeling without visiting this place. I am sure you would come out a happier person.🤓😬😜<br/><br/>

I really liked the place, small and very nice. But they are operational for 2 hours only from 5pm to 7pm. Try to reach the place on time. Good ambience

If you are a foodie and want to try best authentic Tibetan food in darjeeling then this is the place. They make everything from sauces to noodles by their own. It is a very small resturant which runs from 10:30 to 6pm , you need to beat the crowd as there is only 4 tables but it totally worth the wait<br/>Food tasted-<br/>1 Chicken themthuk- The best I ever had , it was just perfect<br/>2 Chicken phing- The noodles were bit rubbery but the taste was awesome it had a nice spicy aroma

The best place in Darjeeling to try out authentic Tibetan food. The momos are especially the best items here. The filling is succulent and there are options in pork, beef and chicken. We also had chicken wai wai noodle soup, gyathuk and chowmein. Portions are huge and prices are extremely affordable. Loved this place so much!

A tiny establishment which is a hidden gem of tibetan cuisine, Kunga serves fresh and excellent food which will leave you wanting more.<br/><br/>Items Ordered :<br/><br/>Beef Steam Momo - (5/5) 10 pieces of big, freshly made momos are served. Beef chunks are super juicy & succulent. Enough for 2 people.<br/><br/>Mixed Thentuk - (5/5) A version of the thukpa with handmade flat noodles instead of regular noodles. Amazingly delicious with beef, pork, chicken, egg, mushrooms & other veggies. The broth was excellent. Highly reccommended. 1 bowl enough for 2 people.<br/><br/>Phing - (4/5) Pan fried glass noodles with veggies. Prepared very differently from traditional glass noodle dishes.<br/><br/>Chilly Pork - (5/5) Very different from the ones served everywhere. Big slices of pork tossed in garlic, ginger, chilli and onions; minus the soya sauce. One actually gets the flavour of chillies instead of a dish slathered in soya & chilli sauce. Highly reccommended.<br/><br/>The place opens at 8am and then closes around 4 pm. It re-opens again at 5pm and closes finally at 6pm...entry is not allowed after 6pm. Place is extremely small & congested but it makes up with the food quality.<br/>Food is fresh and excellent. Quantity is huge and is pocket friendly. All the items here are different from the tibetan cuisine that one usually gets in Kolkata. So for an authentic Tibetan taste, head over to Kunga.

Kunga is one of those hidden gems you'll not know of unless you've done prior research or it was recommended to you by someone. The former was the case for me, and boy did I've a major gustatory treat! 😍<br/><br/>It might not be a visual treat for many, though. Depends on your perspective. It's a pretty stuffed up place with dim lighting with the kitchen chaos there to be seen in full view. For me, add blasting cold & layered overalls and I'm honestly more than happy just to sit there and take in all the buzz.<br/><br/>For starters we had Veg & Pork Momos. Succulent af! (Apologies. 😜) I've noticed over the years that places which dish out these 'authentic' Momos have a sort of wet feeling to them, pumped with stock and whatnot. These Momos were of that variety. The Chilly sauce they give along with is spicy as hell too. Muah!<br/><br/>For main course we had Egg Noodle Soup, Chicken Hakka Noodles with Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Mixed Thukpa.<br/><br/>Sounds so ordinary right? But this is where the difference of preparation kicks in. I won't get into the whole controversy of 'this is how authentic it gets'. But I'll just say this: I LOVED the way they prepared it. The side dish chicken had this kind of twang to it, being tossed in wine (?local) and soy, with sauces added to it which I now wish I should've asked them more about. The Egg Noodle Soup or the Mixed Thukpa are full meals on their own right. The Thukpa particularly had a heavy soy based broth, with eggs, veggies, noodles and the very best cuts of lean meat (chicken, beef & pork). It was so fulfilling!<br/><br/>Considering the amount of food we had, it was pretty cheap as well. I hope they continue maintaining that.<br/><br/>Overall, it was a new culinary experience and that's the best compliment I can honestly give to them (having had varieties of cuisines and food over the years).<br/><br/>I WILL come back. 😊<br/><br/>

This is a nice, warm & cosy place to fulfil your mid day cravings. We went there for dinner during my visit to darjeeling. We ordered mixed ghetuk and chicken steam momo. It was huge in quantity and equally delicious in taste.

Darjeeling is my love and Tibetan food in darjeeling is like paradise on earth.<br/><br/>I loved the pork momo, thukpa and glass noodles there.<br/><br/>Whenever I go to Darjeeling I will visit this place again.

I believe this is one of the best places to taste authentic Tibetan cuisine. Visited this place few days back and I immensely loved there Pork and Beef Thukpa with Flat Noodles. I literally enjoyed this amazing lunch. I got Mixed (Chicken, Pork, Beef) Hakka Noodles packed for dinner and even that food at night tasted awesome. Thumbs Up 👍 to Kunga. Must Visit in Darjeeling for a pocket friendly dine

If your are looking for authentic Tibetan delicacies then this family run restaurant is a must visit place if you are in Darjeeling.  All the food are home cooked and freshly made. We ordered the Hot Chocolate, Coffee, Mixed Thentuk Soup and Pork Shabulay. Every item was great. The staffs were also very friendly. Hope to visit again.<br/><br/>Note : You might have to wait for a bit to get your turn since the place is quite small.

This place was awesome. I had the best pork and chicken momo here. Everything nice here. If u want to test Darjeeling food this place is the best.

Spicy food . Love the place wonton soup was good. Small but its enjoyable at times a little waiting may be there but over all it was enjoyable.. pork and beef dishes are recomended.

Its a small eatery down the Mall road, gives a beautiful feel of the cafes of hill station, service is good, staff reflects the warmth of Darjeeling’s culture. Coming to food, it is a bit disappointing, I would say the place is highly overrated for its food, though whatever you ask for is cooked fresh, but it lacks the taste / feel. Suggest trying Veg/Nveg Wonton Soup, you may avoid eating Momos here. The street side shops provide more authentic taste of Momos.

We come back here every time during our visit to Darjeeling. You can try any item on the menu and you will still have an awesome experience. Perfect flavours, ample quantity and reasonable prices. Whether it be the Fried Rice, Noodles, Soup, Thukpa, Momo - all delicious. This restaurant closes early by 7pm so remember to make time for a culinary experience.

My experience with this restaurant was horrible. I went there to find that they had the closed sign hanging. But as there were people inside I was a bit confused. I went inside and was informed that they were closed. Went back the next day. And there it was again the closed sign, (and people inside eating) and was told the same thing. When I enquired about the restaurant timings, a very rude woman told me that they were full hence the closed sign and asked me to come back half an hour later. This is a weird practice, which I have never ever seen anywhere else. But I had heard great things about this restaurant and therfore decided to give it another try. When I went back after half and hour she told me that they still couldn't offer me a seat (although there was an empty table) and told me to come back again after 30 minutes. She almost shooed me out of there. There was no point going back after this. These people do not know how to run a restaurant and do not have an iota of professionalism. Would request people to take heed.

I come here from childhood for the pork steam momos and the veg fried wai wai. The taste has remained the same since I know it. The staff is very courteous and friendly. Also don’t miss their ginger honey lime tea.

Kunga is a family-run restaurant. Exquisite Tibetan flavors you will get here. Thenthuk and Bhagthuk recipes are must-try. A little bit costly, but the taste and quantity is very good. So definitely a place to have lunch or dinner. It is just on the upper taxi stand, below Dekeling Hotel. Some Tibetan souvenirs are also available for purchase in this place.

Kunga restaurant, one of my favourite places for momos in Darjeeling. Amazing big juicy momos. Very small restaurant, very difficult to find a seat. You could wait close to 40-60 mins just for a table. Service is very slow . All the dishes take very long to get prepared but it's all worth the wait. Ambience is very crammed up seating.<br/><br/>Pork momos (5/5)<br/>Honey and lemon tea (5/5)<br/>Pork Shabhaly (5/5)

I would recommend this place for best momos ever!! Place is small, but somehow accommodates everyone who visit! Thanks to the sweet owner. If you are a momo lover, you must visit this place, it will not disappoint you for sure. Food here is pretty authentic as it isn't much spicy and taste of the food we ordered, was well balanced.
Sudin Pramanik
Booked 8 seats for us and went to the market since the restaurant was not ready... Went back and found all seats booked..... Really shoddy professionalism....

The food gets a 5 star hands down. I had amazing thentuk and veg momos. Such well cooked flavoured Tibetan food. I feel like eating there once again ❤️<br/><br/>The reason I give a 4 is because restaurant needs to reconsider the quantity as sometimes travellers are alone and they want to try most of the things but because the serving size is for more than 2 or 2 people they have to stick to one thing. <br/><br/>They should introduce the concept of single serving.

A foodie's paradise for authentic Tibetan flavours. The space is a bit congested but the food and friendly service would compensate that for you.

If you are momos lover than do visit this place when you are in Darjeeling. They have one of the best and yummy momos. Some of the dishes to try,<br/><br/>1. veg cheese steamed momos<br/>2. veg chowmien<br/>3. choco milkshake
Jas
Small restaurant but great selection of Tibetan foods. I tried the beef momos steamed, glass noodles with beef dry, and the flat noodle soup with egg. My favorites were the glass noodles and the flat noodle soup. The glass noodles had a nice sauted and slightly smokey taste. They were delicious and well made. The flat noodles in the soup were so light and tasty. Overall it was refreshing. The momos were okay, steamed and cooked well, but for my tastes I've had better elsewhere. Great quick lunch. I would definitely come back if ever in town again.

Its a very small joint near Mall road. It has some excellent food. I tried wanton soup, chicken noodles and garlic chicken each and every food was tonguelicious and a very decent crowd joins this place for brunch as well as the staff is also very co-operative and its a must visit place.

The food was really tasty. Probably the best I had in Darjeeling. It was fresh and piping. However the rude behaviour of the waiters and restaurant owners really put me off and I'm going to have to give them a 1.

Ambience: A small place with a homely atmosphere. Nicely decorated. Give you a feelings of some best hilly food. Though I don't like their entrance area.<br/>Rating: 3.5/5<br/><br/>Food: we ordered chicken chowmin and mixed thukpa. Foods were warm. Thukpa was good but I don't like the chowmin. It was a bit overcooked.<br/>Rating: 3.5/5<br/><br/>Behaviour: Good.<br/>Rating: 4/5<br/><br/>VFM: Rs. 220 and Rs. 210 for those two is a bit expensive for me. A bit only as it is in a hilly area.<br/>Rating: 3.5/5<br/>

In our three day stay in Darjeeling, we visited Kunga thrice! The restaurant has managed to win numerous awards consistently over the years and is flocked to by bollywood celebs when they are around (apparently, it's Ranbir Kapoor's favorite). It's a no frill place, with friendly staff. The food here is to die for. Loved everything we tried. The portions are huge. The best momos I've had and you've got to try the shabhaly.<br/><br/>Overall rating: 5/5<br/><br/>Happy hogging!<br/><br/>(Make sure to follow #hogggitup on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for more)<br/>
