Review Mamar Restaurant - Darjeeling

Pragya Saxena
The restaurant is on the first floor of a building accessible by stairs outside the building. Went here on the recommendation of a friend and it didn't disappoint. Best chicken momos we had in all of Darjeeling - the filling had good flavour without relying on the spiciness of the chutney. Although, go for lunch, they run out of momos by 5-6pm. We went one evening and then again for lunch the next day. Momos are served with a lovely hot broth.

This restaurant is located just opposite Big Bazar, on the road beside Clock Tower. It's on the first floor of an old building, with stone steps on the outside of the building. The interiors are quite nice, with mood lighting. The washroom is not the best, but manageable. Service was very prompt and helpful. Ordered: Pork Thukpa - light tasty broth, not spicy, tender pork pieces. Overall, highly recommended.

Value for money. Authentic Nepali Thakali (thali). Visited the place checking reviews and had a wonderful experience. Food service and ambience was beyond expectations. The authenticity stood out with food served in the brass utensils. A must try if you visit Darjeeling and have a taste for yummy non-vegetarian food

I had tried the thali's, those quality and quantity are awesome. My husband had pork fried rice, that was the best fried rice ever had. Food is affordable. Great hospitality.

Do visit here to try their authentic Nepali Thalis, they're delicious! The location is a bit tricky, do follow your map and it won't be any trouble at all. The staff is prompt and courteous too. Definitely recommended 👍🏼

We felt pork bit chewy in respect to our previous experience in other place. Though we are not accustomed about Nepalese cuisine much. Otherwise food was good.

This is one of the most talked and known restaurants among the Locals and tourists. You can eat Darjeeling Gorkha Cushine Full meal, Chinese , and Indian Cushine as well. They have a quick service also. We don't have to wait much for the food. It's quick an fast. Their ambience also seems good but it somehow seems bit dark, gloomy and cold. We had Pork Leg Curry with Rice, Rice with Mutton Curry . In starter we had mushrooms soup, clear chicken soup, Prawn Chilli, Chicken Pakori. Amount of soup is very less. So if you are ordering then kindly asks the staff to manage according to your no of friends. The taste is not so good compare to previous time when restaurant was not renovated. The quality of rice was not so good even after paying a good amount of money. Also the taste has downgraded a lot. Last final suggestion..they should keep their washroom bit clean and hygienic. After climbing lots of stairs, we have to find out dirty, old rugged bathroom with no proper cleaning. Anyway goodluck!

Dined at Nepalese Restaurant Penang in Darjeeling and was truly impressed with the authentic flavors and traditional dishes that transported me straight to the heart of Nepal. The culinary experience is genuine, with each dish crafted with care and attention to detail. That said, while the food is a sensory delight, the portion sizes felt a tad on the smaller side given the price point. A touch more generosity in the servings would make this place an undeniable gem. Still, for a taste of authentic Nepalese cuisine, Penang is a must-visit in Darjeeling.

Hidden in the curvature of the road that winds down below the mall road, Penang Restaurant begins with a humble entrance but leads you to a polished, artsy, and chiseled interior. It was suggested to me by my friend, and biy was it a grand suggestion! Seating area is spacious, and all the staff are extremely polite and helpful. And now the real deal: Food. This place serves authentic Nepalese Thali, with free repeats of Daal, Rice and even Meat. Unique taste, well cooked, and piping hot, it will fill you up and yet, keep you wanting for more. I know, because we ate so much, it made walking uphill to our hotel difficult.🥲 I recommend it 10/10.

I have been to Darjeeling too many times, however, this is the first I have been to Penang! The entrance of the place looks shady but once you're inside, you will enjoy the decor and ambiance. We have tried Nepali Thali and chicken momo. The thali was awesome, however, the momo was nothing great. Will certainly go back for Nepalese dishes. A highly recommend place.

Visited Penang today evening. Ambience is pretty good. We ordered Chicken Momo (4/5) @100 INR and Special Pork Thukpa (4/5) @150 INR for our evening snacks. Both the taste and food potions were good n definitely its value for money. We recommend Penang!
