Absolutely delightful experience at this Family run restaurants by a Bengali family who choose lovely Dehradun to delight with such amazing flavours for last 7 years... Flavours of Family recepie speaks out loud, the humble lively welcoming hostess, efficient service, great ambience. Lil lil details go big way, brass utensils, home made mouth freshener Tried their Jamai non veg thali, it was wonderful. Only regret you will have, is not to have more tummy space. Do try it out...

Lovely place. Food is very tasty. Quality and quantity is both more than satisfying. Fish and prawn both is fresh. Host is very nice, he came and ask if food was tasty or not. Do I need more or not. Overall very satisfying experience. If you want to experience bengali food in Dehradun, you can go there.

Impressive. I enjoyed the Bengali meal, we ordered Thali + dry fish + sweet( kheer), etc. It was amazing (the food was light ). Service was good, there was only 1 service guy, I don't know his name but he mentioned that he was from Chamoli (garwali). Food + service + sitting area + Check all was good.

Recommended: For those who would like to try something new. I am an eggitarian, had limited options to try something new compared to one's who are non vegetarian but yeah i loved the place. Reason: food tasted really good, the aroma, taste, texture of food was good. Presentation also nice. Beautifully decorated. The best thing according to me was the service, how the lady at the reception attended us. Although there were not much people at that time when we went but she was so friendly and nice to talk to,i really had a good experience.

I tried bengali food for the first time and my god, it was a wonderful experience. The owner herself came and greeted us and taught us some really interesting things about bengali food and the correct way to eat it. We started with the regular thali accompanied by fish cutlets. Then we tried prawns and crab. I've tried prawns before but these were really tasty. The crab was really tasty and the curry was mouth watering. I would suggest everyone to pay a visit once and try this quisine. 5 stars from my side.

It was very awesome experience with Bong twist, having lunch with the Nostalgia of Kolkata. Very friendly behaviour of the owner and the beautiful platter of fish thali and Aloo Posto give me the actual test of Bengal Gharana... But I would like to suggest to increase the quantity of rice in Thali.❤️

The food was absolutely wonderful and fresh. From preparation to presentation, everything was perfect and it was a great value for the price. The menu is very interesting with an amazing variety of Bengali dishes. The ambience is good too and the owner as well as the staff is very accomodating. A wonderful experience overall. Highly recommended. 👍👍

The Bong Twist is located near Ballupur chowk (they changed their location from Sahashradhara side to Ballupur) The food is excellent and if you're in Dehradun Willing to EAT BENGALI FOOD , this is the place where you should come. You can also enjoy the food in rooftop. Ambience 5/5 Food 5/5 Service 5/5 It's a bit pricey but after eating you will be satisfied .

This is a place in where I can go everyday and it's the first choice when it comes to choose a restaurant. Being a bengali & staying so far from home was pathetic until & unless I got to know about this place. Ofcourse, the food over this place is simply AWESOME. No double question on that.
Plus, the environment is super.
The best part is Bangali bangali bhab ❤

The pomfret fish curry (Sarso curry) was very tasty and could feel the various flavors and spices in it .. but the quantity provided was very very less .. I would have loved if the quantity would have been little more for the price .. rest good !

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would be getting shorshe ilish in a place like Dehradun. Thank u bong twist for the pleasant surprise. The silver queen of the blue waters, marinated in tangy thick mustard gravy, with mustard oil sprinkled liberally, with a green chilly decorated on top, lending its own signature flavour to the already explosive culinary blast, is my favourite. Coupled with fine long grained basmati rice, this was a very memorable luncheon. Will definitely visit again.

Friendly behaviour from the staff. They are from kolkata and are best with the bengal recipe. They too have plate system sometime mainly at some festival. Food are really tasty. The bong twist is a family based restaurant.

It one of the place in the city which serves bengali food,so we get carried away, but the fish used in dishes were stale n stinky. It was total waste of money.

The tastiest and most fulfilling food in Doon. Starting from the appetizers to the dessert they are sure to satiate all your food cravings :)

Found a tinch of Bengal far away from Bengal. Found it while returning on the way from Mussorie to Dehradun. Located 8km away from the Dehradun Railway station. Fantastic Ambience with courteous (bangaliana) behavior.
In frame a selfie corner and Nonveg Thali
1. Plain Dehradun rice
2. Shukto (bengali appetizer of stewed vegetables)
3. Dal
4. Alu bhaja, begun bhaja (fried potatoes & brinjal)
5. Chicken Kasa (other option is fish curry)
6. Chutney & papad
7. Payesh (rice kheer)
Must visit for all Bengali visiting Mussoorie or Dehradun.

I've ordered chicken Biryani and chicken kosha from this place quite a few times and let me tell you there hasn't been a single time when I was left disappointed. The taste of the biryani and kosha has always satisfied my taste buds. They serve biryani which is more than enough for one person (unless you have a very big appetite). Even the kosha is well cooked and gives you a feeling of homemade Bengali food. Would definitely love to try out more dishes from this place!
Siddharth Chadha
The only place in the city serving Bengali Food and yes it serves the same flavours which you get in Bengal. It was the perfect Mustard Seed flavour fish curry.
Wish you use that same small & thick rice which compliments the curry and more curry when served with rice.

Ordered mocha chop, wonderful preparation, will be awesome if the restaurant can slice down on the price a bit. Was timely delivered & well packed.

Portion sizes a bit small compared to the prices, good authentic Bengali food although, would be unbeatable if prices could be slashed down a bit.
Ami toma k bhalo basi. It was tremendous. It made me feel found home outside my home. Great work. Just love the authenticity.
Kolkata ko jinda rkha wo bhi Doon me.
Suniti Bhushan Datta
Small, friendly, family-run and affordable place, with great food. On the owner’s recommendation, we had the Dum Biryani and fish cutlet, and they were exactly reminiscent of Calcutta. The portions could be considered small, but they were satisfying without making one feel full. Very recommended.

This place is a must visit for any Bengali person residing/travelling in/to Dehradun if he/she is willing to experience the brilliance of Calcutta cuisine. Being born and brought up in Kolkata, I am sure, that like me, anyone would find the taste of homely cooked food nostalgia in every bite.

I had ordered a veg thaali which comprises of the exquisite dish called Aloo Posto (Poopy seeds) along-with other sides like dal, Beguni (brinjal fry), aloo fry (potato chips Calcutta style), kheer etc. You can also order for separate sides like I had ordered for Egg Devil (Egg Pakoda).

Besides the aforesaid, their speciality lies in the preparation of brilliant dishes with fish as the main ingredient (the Hallmark of all Bengalis).

Further, what makes this place special is the Staff itself. The ambience is more that of homecoming rather than that of a restaurant.

So, if you are a Bengali and you love Bengali food or you are someone who at least wants to give Bengali food a shot, The Bong Twist is the place for you.

Recommended items to order: any of the fish dishes, veg thaali, mutton curry!

The food was delectable, jomai soshti thali is a must have whenever you drop by bong twist, lemon tea (lebu cha) has its own authentic taste and aroma, savour it, a perfect place that serves bengali cuisines with the essence of bengali culture!
Edit 1:- Just a suggestion that I’ll like to give, do increase the quantity of food that you serve, for me i guess it was too less for the price i was paying, nobody wants to go home with partially filled stomach! Rest everything is fine 🙂

Food connoisseur's heaven. Undoubtedly the best Bengali cuisine in Dehradun. Home made food in a restaurant is their speciality. Fish cutlet is just perfect. Kosha is not a regular gravy but something that needs to relished. There is so much more to the place than just another food joint. The eversmiling host, the Bengali classical music, books and so on. It's a wholesome experience with some good food at it's heart.

The place was fine and serves u with the best Bengali cuisine. The chef is quite nice and served with extreme delights. So, All the bongs do visit the place.

The Bong Twist is the most authentic Bengali food haven I have visited ever. As a die-hard Bengali food lover, with a passion for cooking, eating and reading about this wonderful cuisine, I went to TBT with an open mind and intention to explore. And, came back smacking my lips, addicted to every single item I ate - shorshe rui, prawn cutlet, mishti doi, rosogulla, chicken dakbungalow.... right down to the tea brewed in freshly-plucked Gondhoraj lime from Subhendu's (the owner-chef) and his mom's kitchen garden. To top it all, the generous dose of hospitality and heartfelt affection I got from this wonderful family of food lovers is a memory for a lifetime... Don't think even once, MUST VISIT IF YOU ARE IN DOON!

So here is a deal.... do you just want to eat food or experience it?

If latter is the case, here is your place to have lovely bengali cuisine ...Bong Twist feels like home...both food and hospitality wise.

I had some cholar dal, begun bhaja, fish kalia and steaming hot rice on a sultry rainy afternoon...oh yes I finished it off with a gur -er sandesh...

Does that make you hungry?
I live in Delhi else I would have been a regular here...
This is the only place in Dehradun serving proper Bengali food which tastes both awesome as well as authentic. Hospitality is even better than the food, with a personal and ernest touch everywhere. The place is not your everyday happening food joint with a throng of crowd outside, and I'm glad it isn't. Instead it's a cozy place which is only about food that tastes like home. The place does enough and more to win our hearts...and the easiest way to heart of any true Bengalee is through her/his stomach! And just ask the owner what you'd like to eat - he'll make sure you'll have your favourite 'off the menu' item.

Dishes you cannot miss:
Mochar chop
Chicken chop
Fish cutlet
Alu posto
Muger dal koraishuti diye
Jhiri jhiri alubhaja
Pomfret er jhal
Sorshe bata macch
Kosha mangsho (Easily takes the crown) - broiler/deshi chicken/mutton
Tomato chutney
Homemade rosogolla (doesn't taste exactly like a store-bought sweet in kolkata, but made of fresh chhana and with a dash of nalen gur)

Yet to taste the rest of the items

The Bong twist offers a variety of authentic Bengali food. One of my all time favourite here is banana flower cutlet and now the Jamoi thali. ( a thali serving good food like you would treat your son in law )
I don't remember any Resturant serving in veg thali. So this came as a treat .a very good serving . This thali had one mustard fish, one khara masala fish, Bengali style chicken, Bengali style Motton, Bengali style gobi aloo, dal with peas , baigan bhajaa, aloo bhajaa, tomato chutney, 4 roti's, rice, papad, and jaggery kheer.
A good treat for all Bengali food lovers. I feel ordering a thali always gets you closer to the food of that culture. Enjoyed every bit of it . A must try .

DEV MALL
I went for lunch on 18th June
I ordered veg thali ,fried fish ,mutton kosha and payesh for desert. Food was very good except the dal which was disappointing. The owner and his wife were excellent hosts. Service was very good. For Bengali food lovers I recommend this restaurant and wish the owners best of luck in their venture.

Imagine living in Dehradun, visiting Bengal for lunch and being back in 2 hrs! Sounds impossible. Well, i almost did this. Wondering how? The Bong Twist, at Sahastradhara road, almost took me to Bengal while i gorged on some of their delicacies. Mr. Shubendu Barai, a qualified engineer and working as a banker, gave up the mad life of Delhi to settle in the serenity of the Doon valley. Continuing to follow his heart, he brought to Doon the taste of Bengal with The Bong twist.

Great eating option while in Dehradun! Been here twice and the food has always been exceptional. The mutton and fish are outstanding and also love the baingan made in mustard. They also have a very nice banana flower cutlet which is a must try. I also enjoy the fact that it is situated slightly outside the chaotic Rajpur road so one can enjoy the mountains on two sides and there is always plenty of parking. Two thumbs up !!
Shashank Kondam
Delicious food, mainly fish dishes.Typical menu although but not a place to go for vegetarians,Fish thali was awesome but situated very far from the city.Serving was best

I often visit this place, well frankly speaking..the place is good with authentic cuisine but I am a bit disappointed as I have seen the quantity of the food they give specially the Daal, Gravy got reduced. Also, I ordered chicken one night, but I am surprised to find chicken without any gravy. So, try to improve this and retain the quantity as per the cost.
Arghyananda Bhattacharjee
Well to start with, this place is a little bit far from the city. So as we went there we got a really nice and warm welcome. The ambiance was a fusion bangaliyana (touch of West in bengali). I would give 5/5 for the hospitality of the manager.

The menu was not that difficult as it didn't have that many to chose from, so we ordered fish fry as starter. The presentation was absolutely perfect, The fish was good but the flavour and all,but it was only at the top, the fish tasted boring in the middle, like a boiled egg.

As for the main course mutton Kosha, fish kalia and Sorshe (mustard) Ilish(Hilsa) were ordered. To be frank I was quite disappointed with the mutton as they did not skin them properly and the smell of raw mutton far was coming which made it very unpleasant to eat.

Coming to the fish, they were cooked nicely and the taste was spot on.
Now if you talk about the cost,it was not marginal as the proportion of food charged did not match the quantity.

I would recommend to go and try out the fishes. Tc

Been Here Today For Lunch. First Of All... Do Not Trust Google Map To Reach Here... Rather Call The Given Number And Follow The Guidance

Coming To The Food & Ambience...Both Are Just Mind Blowing. Food Was Tasty, Well Cooked-Well Presented & Cheap As Well. Also The Owner Is A Very Friendly Gentleman. Also They Serve "Kolkata Style Biryani" . Will Certainly Visit Again

The people at this place sure know how to cook with the bong twist. The moment you step in, you realise It is a new setup however, the passion and conviction radiates from the people ready to serve..

Had the Ghassi Mutton, fried Piranha in white wine sauce, Biryani and veg cutlets. Guys, believe you me, I have always felt that Dehradun lacks good restaurants but this joint is miles ahead from the rest of the mediocre dining scene in Dehradun.

A must try guys! Two thumbs up to the Chef for such innovative food! Had a chance to spend some time with the owner and to get his views on the whole culinary scene.

All the best guys for this wonderful effort!
