Review The Clay Oven - Dharamsala

We loved every thing we had. It is so worth the hype. We had double roasted pork, Tibetan thali and Tolumein chicken soup. Every single thing was so filling and so delicious. It was our first meal in McLeod and a great start to our trip.

We were full after all day eateries hopping but we had to visit this place for the much talked about Nepali Thali. It was delicious, fresh, homely, less spicy, flavourful and served hot. We were allowed to share unlike many places . The chicken curry was so tasty and the chicken was fresh and tender. Will visit the place again to try other dishes.

Beautiful interior Cosy place for breakfast, lunch and dinner Thupka could have been better in terms of quantity of soup. The noodles were too loaded and wasn’t in right proportion with the amount of soup and veggies. But the taste was good Must try- Cappuccino and broccoli chicken stir fry. Those were absolute bomb and so was the veg omelette

I had ordered Mutton Nepali thali.Taste was good but the mutton was not fleshy and not cooked properly.Lots of bones in it.
Midlife Backpacker
Scrumptious! Vegetables were all crunchy and juicy, each topping discernible from the others. Cheese was just perfect, stringy as it should be as you lift each piece trying not to drop anything. Coupled with the spotlessly clean cutlery and condiment tray a five star review was always going to happen. A classy dining experience in the heart of the town.

Amazing food amazing ambience. It’s a family run kitchen. And loved every bit of what we tried.

Incredible vibe.. perfect place to chill and eat .we tried pancake which came with cream, maple syrup and fresh fruit . Quantity justifies the pricing.. Awesome place amazing ambience and splendid taste .

Great place for good Tibetan food. - very nice ambience. Nice comfortable wooden furniture. Place has a fireplace as well! - a bit of seating which overlooks the busy street - we had veggie food. The veg thukpa is the best we have had in mcleodganj. Momo's were good, Thai green curry was on the sweeter side - the blended (iced) lemonade was just the right thing for the hot day Overall, a must visit.

Gem place to visit for a lunch/dinner in Mcleodganj. We visited this places just to sample the wood oven pizza and it took us by surprise. One of the best pizza places in the area. The crust was so soft and delicious. After trying one pizza, we came back again to this place to try out some more stuff. Even the deserts served here were mouth-watering especially the Choco Mousse Cake.

Four of us traveling through Mcleodganj found this. We loved the ambiance of the place the moment we walked in! At first we thought that the food seemed expensive (on the menu) but then when served we saw that the portions were large! Excellent food, totally worth the money, certainly recommended.

Just loved the Chocolate Truffle cake and the coffee here .. It has a great environment and a really working staff The vibe is pretty aesthetic and really calming After a long Trek of bhagsu and the sightseeing It was my go to place to have a cup of coffee and a slice of cake which turned to be amazing Highly recommended Cafe and Bakery Also even ordered a cake for family friends birthday

Excellent momo, curries, thalis and pizzas. Heaps of veg and non veg options. Very friendly and curtious staff. Coffee and cake was also excellent. Very nicely decorated too with a small library.

Please never visit this place. So many better places to eat in MG. Was a mistake, ruined our evening. Should have given a zero instead.

I wish I could give them zero star. Pathetic food with arrogant or should I say stupid staff. We had ordered lamb with was raw and was smelling really bad. Also we found a cockroach in wonton soup after taking few sips from it. After complaining to the owner she didn't have the courtesy to apologize for it instead she charged us for the same n argued that we had to pay for it as we had already had some of it. Was angry as well as surprised by her attitude. Strongly NOT recommended.

Visited this place for lunch. Had honey lemon ginger tea which was good. But the ‘good’ of this place is only limited to this. Ordered for Thai red curry and rice. The food received had a visibly big cockroach in it. When we pointed this out to the staff they calmly said we will replace it. Though we weren’t charged for it, there wasn’t even a decent apology for such a bad experience.
Courage Dog
The receptionist spoilt my meal. She is one heck of a rude fellow and asked me to stop charging my laptop since according to her it is not allowed beyond a limit
Divya Patel (Dibbu)
The receptionist is rude and uncooperative as hell!!! she blasted my ears with her stupid loud music and would not budge even after repeated requests.
Astik Surana
Situated at the Main Market of McLeodganj.<br/>We have ordered pizzas and pasta there, the food is not that great.<br/>But, here you can have the best cakes and amongst it the Chocolate Cheese Cake is a must try.

Great food and service.<br/>The place has a very relaxed warm vibe to it, the staff was polite and food served was really good. Would recommend their chicken wonton and peanut butter chocolate cake.

Went to this place after getting tired on the streets of Mcleodganj. The ambiance is quite nice and gives a whole old-fashioned vibe. The music was fantastic as well.<br/>We ordered fried vegetable momos, margherita pizza along with a huge variety of cakes including peanut butter chocolate, blueberry cheesecake and chocolate cake. Momos were really crisp and tasty along with the dips which they serve. Pizza was quite good as well. Among the cakes, chocolate cake was a bit of a disappointment. Peanut butter cake was okay. The blueberry cake was amazing.<br/>A sweet nice place to go to for a meal!
DelhiFoodTwist
We had 2 plates of chicken dimsims and a plate of chilly garlic noodles. The place is amazing with great Vibes, it also has a balcony sitting so that you can enjoy delish food when it rains in McLeodganj. The chicken momos is a must try. We got 3 plates packed as well. Looking forward to visit here again soon.

I had been to this place with my family during our visit to Dharamshala for dinner. We had ordered soup, pasta and pizza. And also desserts. Food was good. Liked it. Service was great! Ambience was good. Staff was helpful and courteous

We ordered spinach and cheese momos in which the spinach was only blanched and stuffed there was no cheese and no salt. Also the concept of Nepali thali has been confused with Punjabi thali, there was no siyali roti no gorkali aloo in the thali. The clay oven needs to really buck up.<br/><br/>

Located at main square mcleodganj, next to pizza hut.<br/><br/>Didnt have a good experience here.<br/><br/>Ordered a hash brown potato, a waffle with maple syrup and honey ginger lemon tea.<br/><br/>Honey ginger lemon tea was ordinary.<br/><br/>Waffle with maple syrup was fine, waffle was freshly baked. But it was quite heavy. Should have been light and fluffy. But tasted fine.<br/><br/>Now hash brown potato. Never ever i have seen such hash brown. It looked like some version of chilli potato. I even asked them if it really is hash brown. The lady there went to the reception and asked in the kitchen. She gave a scolding look at reception and then turned to us saying it is hash brown.<br/><br/>By this time, we knew it wasnt. Any how we knew it wouldnt have been. Still we were served chilli portal version of "hash brown". This upset us. Wouldnt expect something like this in Mcleod. People are nice here.<br/><br/>So going for 2 stars.<br/><br/>

We ordered 1 veg manchow soup and 1 non veg wonton soup.<br/>They gave us the non veg manchow soup and being a vegetarian it was my worst fear, luckily we saw the chicken pieces before hand.<br/>After they finally gave us the Veg Manchow,it was completely flavour-less and on asking to make it more tasteful they said "veg manchow soup is supposed to be flavour-less only"<br/>We also ordered Thai green curry and it was flavour less as well,no salt, yet could feel the authentic taste, also the proportion of rice to the curry was much less.<br/>For dessert we ordered Chocolate Cheesecake which was tasty yet was more like moussecake.<br/><br/>The service was poor since people were clueless and food could've been better.
CombatCritic
The restaurant sits just off the main square on the TIPA (Dharamkot) road and looks nicer than most in McLeod Ganj with wood beam ceilings, earth tones, and a nice terrace. <br/><br/>The free WiFi was nearly non-existent, so don't bother if you need to get anything done while waiting to be seated, get your menu or your food.<br/><br/>I stood at the counter waiting for a table for nearly 5 minutes while employees danced around me saying nothing and with just three parties in a place that seats 50. I finally got my menus another 5 minutes after the grumpy guy (owner?) at the register ignored me and I sat myself.<br/><br/>I ordered the green chicken (Thai) curry (200 rupees - $3.20) and waited close to 30 minutes ... but IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! Accompanied by white rice, the curry came in a clay pot, was generous in size, and hot, not scalding. The flavor was as good as any green curry I have had stateside and I have had quite a few. Spicy, but not overly hot, there were chunks of white meat chicken, mushrooms, and onion with just the right curry to rice ratio. Good stuff and at $3+ it was definitely the best value in terms of curry I have experienced!<br/><br/>The food quality and value alone would rate 9 BOMBS, but deducting 1 BOMB for lousy internet and another for mediocre service ...<br/><br/>CombatCritic Gives The Clay Oven 7 Bombs Out Of 10 ... MORE BOMBS ARE BETTER!

I felt so humiliated here , they are racist, they simply humiliated me for their foreigner customer, just because their foreigner customer wanted some privelage n I'm the one who have to sacrifice for them.

I love the chicken phad tai, very good.<br/>Tried the vegeterian chopsuey, did not like it at all!<br/>Salt lassi is good.<br/>Atmosphere is not bad, friendly servers.<br/>Recommended 🙂

Great place to have Chinese and Tibetan food...we tried chicken thupka, mutton chill, pizza. Staff was polite with smiling faces....we also wanted to try their Nepali thali, However the person who cooks Nepali dishes was on leave...next time we will try that.<br/><br/>

Only one word to describe this place.. AMAZING! We had ordered different Chinese dishes and everything was really good. I really liked the Peach tea.. The chocolate cake at this place was very good.

During our 3 days stay at mcleodganj, we visited this place twice. The ambience and the food is really good. We had Nepali thaali (chicken), chicken thentuk, lamb chilli and chicken chowmein. Each and every dish was great. We also had some of their bakery items. The banofee pie and blueberry cheesecake were really good. Did not like the choco banana cake as it was bitter<br/>

'The Clay Oven' this a speciality tibetan restaurant in the main square area of mcleodganj. Ambience is typically Tibetan and shows culture and their Tibetan food is great 'Tibetan thali' is the most famous dish here but unfortunately it wasn't available when i was there so i tried momos which is also a speciality Tibetan food.<br/>'Fried chicken momos' 4.0<br/>'Steamed chicken momos' 4.0

This is a beautiful place for those who want to enjoy a quite dinner. Situated at the main square, this place is pretty easy to spot. The ambience is soothing, staff is good and food is delicious. We went for a range of dishes; veg thukpa, veg momos, ginger honey lemon, chilly garlic noodles and alfredo pasta. All the dishes turned out good. The blueberry cheese cake was just ok but the chocolate banana cake turned out great. Overall, a nice experience.

We ordered a Mutton Nepali Thakkali Thali and the Thai Green Curry and both were quite something to write home about. For dessert we ordered a Banoffee Pie and a Carrot Cake. The cake was a little dry but the pie was really good. It was one of the best food experiences I've had in McLeodganj so far.

A really good place to eat food. Especially if you want to experience Thai, Tibetan and Nepalese food. Staff are polite and chocolate cheese cake is amazing :)<br/>Schezwan is something you have to order at your own risk 😀😂

Had minimum expectations while visiting the place, but turned out to be nice experience. Ordered pizza and Nepali thali. Presentation of thali was unique and quite impressive, also sabzi & chutneys on side were good. Pizza was equally good and was freshly baked.

I was here mainly to try out the Nepali thali, which turned out to be much better than my expectations! It comes with good portions, and tasted fresh. The  thali had portions of paneer curry(delightful-creamy and rich !), dal bhat, achar, saag , chapatis and papad . The service was prompt and the ambiance was also very nice and cozy.

A small eating outlet on the first floor, right at the Mcleodganj circle. The ambiance is ideal for enjoying the city and having a quite dinner. I loved the lantens and the chocolate cake. We wanted to try some authentic thupkas and Momo's and we loved them. The quantity is a lot, so order according.

Such a lovely place with great food. I went there for breakfast and dinner. They had good teas and the cheesecake was decent too. They do varieties of eggs for breakfast which are good. Had Tibetan for dinner which again was a delight to eat.

We ordered Alfredo mushroom pasta, cold coffee, banoffie pie and ginger lemon honey.<br/><br/>Pasta was delicious and we loved it.<br/>Cold coffee was a little too strong but the staff was friendly and corrected it right away.<br/>Banoffie pie was simply perfect.<br/>And to get the feel of the hills, ginger lemon honey was the right choice.<br/><br/>We loved our time there. Would recommend this place to everyone in search of good food in Mcleodganj.

Pocket friendly and tasty food. Staff is very good. And white pasta was awesome. As located in main market, this cafe is an easy catch and has a very good view of the market if you’re sitting outside.
