Review Hotel Saravana Bhavan Restaurant - Ernakulam

Amit Minocha Advocate
A nice vegitarian place with good food and quick service. Tried variety of snacks from dosa to bonda to vada to spring rolls etc. Spring roll were average and not hot. Dosa was good. Sambar was cold. Bonda was also cold and so was pakora. Tea was very good. Dahi vada was excellent. Ample sitting space, both A/c and non A/c. Easy parking space available. Service is very quick and impressive. Family place. Reasonable prices.

Update - went here for lunch and it was great ** one more thing about car parking, when you park your car, you need to pay 50 Rs to the security and get receipt. At the time of paying bill at counter you need to give that receipt and get 50 Rs back/subtracted from food bill Soft and tender idli ❤️ Tasty and cryspy Dosa Quick service Additional serving of chutneys given time to time without being asked Really nice experience Would go here again for lunch to taste the most famous Saddya Kerala's lunch

Definitely a suggestible location for traditional Dosa and other such things. I have to say meals is also good. There you can also get sweets too. There is a parking option available but in the side. Check the sign board at the front of the restaurant.

A great place for a hygenic, fresh and homely meal. The service is good. I'd recommend the thali - simply yum! Follow @thatgoangirl on Instagram for more.

Went there for lunch, their meals were pretty good and tasty. They have both AC/ non AC dining and ample parking space. The only issue I personally faced was the waiter weren't paying attention to us, I called them and showed signs. After sometime they came, honestly tested my patience.

Tasty food and their service was excellent 👌🏻 great place to choose for breakfast

Love this place, never disappoints! My everyday breakkie place. The idli Sambar is just mind blowing, also the tomato oothappam and obviously their coffee ❤️
Abdulla Imzan
The best South Indian veg restaurant in the area. The staffs are very professional and their service is also quick. They have a section for Indian sweets and also serve chaats from evening.

Had breakfast from here, we have ordered ghee Roast, it was superb and the white chutney was also fantastic , fried rice and chili gopi was below average
Rajith Rajagopal
Food is of the authentic vegetarian style. With Pongal and Masala dosa being the main highlight as well as my personal preference. The 4 varieties of chutney were also top notch. The only discomfort we faced was the parking.

Loved the experience at Hotel Saravana Bhavan, one of the best vegetarian hotel in that area. Ambience is normal, they do have separate dining area for A/C and Non A/C. Food tasted good and service was quick. The place is always crowded and hygiene can be improved. Try this out
Aravind Ajay
Had their podi masala dosa. It was spicy but the dosa batter could have been better as it felt a bit old. I have tried many other curry dishes from there and it was good. Food-8/10 Service-9/10 Ambience-8/10
Dr.FARZANA KARIM
Very tasty food.... And super service also... We bought meals and masaladosa.. Both was so tasty

Serves the ideal customer's expectations. Good service , good food and similar pricing. A wide variety of veg food with a special section of sweets. Sambar is Tamil style and meals too, both white and Kerala rice available. Worth a try if you are looking for a good veg hotel in Marine Drive

The best and wonderful pure vegetarian food in the streets of Kochi. Compared to others available near 1KM not even the Punjabi restaurant is as good as the quality of food and the pocket friendly. I would like to recommend this hotel.
Vara Prakash
I had lunch two times in a gap of one day. Food is good, hotel atmosphere is very nice. But, the curries served to me both the days are mostly common. But I liked the food.

I had made an order through Zomato App from Hotel Saravana Bhavan Kacheripadi - Order 7541 for a set of chappati and 3 Vadas. When i opened the package after receipt only chappati was delivered and Vadas were missing.

I had contacted the hotel and the response received was that they check the order always before delivery and will be taken care next time.

Horrible! Have never tasted a paneer butter masala so bad! It tasted sweet and looked like palak paneer! Yuck! Not even worth 1 star!
Ramvignesh
I orderd lemon not in the bill and the quantity and quality was poor they are cheating with
the brand name
Jayaprabha.pooppanal
I ordered Paper masala roast dosa but got one which was very thick and not roasted.

Flies in the food
So unhygienic when you complain they have no remorse on their faces for feeding people flies
The black dots you see in the picture are flies!

The hotel service was too bad. Staff behavior is very bad.l am not satisfied in the hotel service. Some item missing in the order.I am not interested in the hotel

We had ordered puttu, paneer butter masala and palak dal. All were great in taste. Paneer was sweet. Palak dal was different in taste. The dal had palak puree in it. Even the wheat chapati was soft. We were in Kochi for 2 days and for both days had from here.
Hima
I have only positive feedback on food. However there is no proper system in place for table allotment. Only one person takes order on the day i visited in the whole a/c room.. it would be a good experience to bring a system and enough staffs for smooth functioning. Or else some may feel “fight for food” survival drama.
Sam_lakmi
I like the food here esp South Indian. Ordered online today. Enjoyed whatever I took. Loved the Dahi vada, Pongal, Idiappam n kadala & ghee roast. The chutneys that came along with dosa were too good.
Kasi Viswanathan
Being a vegetarian visited this restaurant.
Ordered Sweet Corn Soup which was so thin and no taste in it.
Further the Bindi gravy was So Spicy and head to toe was burning.
The serving staffs also need to be trained better to take care of customers.
Kavitha Bhamesan
not good
Uddeshya Gautam
It is a pure vegetarian restaurant with soothing ambience. Had dosa, idli and vada in breakfast. Everthing was tasty. Worthy choice for north indians as well.
Sreejith
Been to this hotel for too many times. Their service quality is excellent.

Neat and tidy, Quality food, staff behaviour is good, economic and tasty.

I'm having food from this outlet for past one and half years. Almost all the things in their menu is good. The kothu porottas they serve in the evenings is my favourite.
Overall a good clean vegetarian outlet serving quality food.
Namrata Nair
Ordered puttu &curry, idiyappam & curry ,masala dosa

For putting and idiyappam curry given was kadala (chana) curry-blah no taste none

Masala dosa also blend ntn to brag on
It was better than puttu and idiyappam as the tomato chutney provided along with masaladosa had some spices.

No from my end to this place... there is no return back for more.
Nishanth Krishh
Polite and courteous staff, very friendly. Best quality South Indian food. Variety of North Indian food also available. Very caring staff, you never have to wait for ordering.
Shiboli Mukhopadhyaya
It's huge, spacious tiffin centre! Completely loved their crisp, tasty dosa. It was the best dosa I tasted till date. We had mysore pak for dessert, which was lovely. We were served pink ayurvedic hot water which, they claimed, to be a good digestive potion.
Neethu P
very tasty

I am a regular to this hotel. Their chappathi curry are a must have for dinner. They serve with 2 seperate curries and raita. Also amazing is their ghee masala dosa.
Manish Singh
if there is negative rating I must have gone for that.. They are so careless that they don't deliver the full order.. so if you gonna order from this restaurant make sure if you have some.food at home.. Now about food nothing grt the quantity is so less that it is not sufficient for one person..
Premkumar
Dosa and Tomato rice were good.Porota not quite..
Hardeek S Shah
Excellent place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Yes, there have been times when I have had all 3 of my meals from this one place - for a period of 2 months! I recommend South Indian for breakfast, the typical South-indian sadhya for lunch, and a North-Indian dinner (at their A/c restaurant on the backside).
Antony Lejo
I would rate it as the best vegetarian restaurant in Kochi. Mushroom masala dosa was awesome at Kacherippady outlet. Dosas, Ghee roast etc also very good and crispy. Must try.
Meenu Nidhin
It’s quite nice place inside the main dining area.. there is a sweets counter too.. the food is also good.. we tried chilli porota and it turned out to be really good..
Gayatri Viswanathan
The food is really good. I love the dosas here quite a lot. I made the mistake of ordering noodles which looked a lot like a fruit plate (hands full of grapes, pomegranate, pineapples and apples had found their way on to the dish). The staff is a little cold but they make up for that by serving good south Indian food.
The_munching_rover
We have been here twice and have had sambhar vada, masala dosa, spring rolls, kadahi paneer, stuffed kulcha, cheese veg kulcha, chhola batura and filter coffee. Everything was yummy. Service is good. The place is an absolute value for money.

Authentic south Indian delicacies served fresh sums this place up.
Tried quite a lot of things
7 uttapams in a platter is a must have if you like it.
Seven different kind of preparations with different stuffings will do definitely leave you asking for more.
Ghee roast and rava masala are great as well.
Don't miss out the special meals they serve at this place.
Also give chola Puri a try as it has a different appeal to it all together with the channa's cooked in coconut paste and pepper will send your taste buds for a toss.
Mysore pak and coffee will culminate it well.

Great place , prompt service , amazing food and priced right earns it a recommendation!

I had idli, vada and puri's there. For the price they provide it at, it's more expensive than it should be. Quality of food was ok, except for the burnt onions projecting out of the vadas which I think was what caused a burning feeling in my stomach later (bad sign). All employees wear plastic caps to prevent hair falling onto food. The place is clean and well maintained. Waiters were prompt and polite. Although few spoke Tamil, they understood Malayalam and were helpful. From the photos I see that the rice grains served there are separate from each other. That's a sign they haven't cooked it fully. It's bad for the stomach. So I'd say it's an ok restaurant in terms of food, but for the quantity they serve, the price is exorbitant.
Divya Tripathi
Ordered Ghee Roast Dosa, Curd Rice, Ragi puttu and Kadala Curry. Food was good. They could work more on the ambience. Their service was quick.

I didn't try much restaurant in Ernakulam but visit this if other options are unavailable. It has both AC and non AC section.
Food is okay in taste. u can find North Indian dishes. Chapati is south style, so better order tandoori roti. The worst part of restaurant is service. They wud bring the cheque while you r still eating. The staff is rude and unwelcoming.
Food=3/5
Ambiance=3.5/5
Service=1.5/5
Value for money=3/5
Aiswarya
We ordered mushroom masala and onion uthappam.it was the best of both worlds .need place.and the staff also was very friendly.amount was not that costly.60 for mushroom dosa.
Divya Bhatt
Went there for two times. Food was good. Ate Podi(spicy) masala dosai and onion uttapam. Both were tasteful. Only thing is that none of the waiter can understand Hindi properly, so it was hard to ask some basic questions about dishes. Good place for pure vegetarian food. And yeah, it's neat and clean place at cheap price. Good to go.

To be frank, Saravana Bhavan lost the goodness on the way. It was good 4-5 years ago. Now they added some business to the whole process. Food is not of good taste, the service is not so prompt. They renovated the non ac section last month. The overall ambience is good especially the ac dining area. Still the quality of food is average. Go there only if you don't have any other option. I will definitely recommend Gokul Ootupura over Saravana Bhavan any day. Overall 3/5
ChocOholic
Today, I visited there with one of my friend there and mine experience was not so much great there.
I was wondering there this is not the original outlet of sarvana bhawan as they have completely different ambiance, limited variety of foods, no professionalism etc.
Regarding food, first we ordered gobi dosa and masala dosa. Gobi dosa stuff was very oily but masala dosa was fine.
Then we ordered idly and vada,,, so they were also very average.
Overall not a good experience there.
Benita Mathew
It's a classic favorite for those of us who live nearby.

The food is really good, no doubt. Especially the dosa-vada, in fact even their simple vegetarian meals.
I enjoy the tea/coffee here.

Pricing is cheap.

Service is fast and good.

I cannot swear by their hygiene practice but I've never had a problem following any item I've had here.

Parking is provided around and opposite the restaurant.

Place is almost always crowded, especially in the morning and evening.

Cheers! 🍴

I can't try anything apart from their ghee roast and masala dosa. They really nail it.Awesome service and the taste is simply irresistible. However the place could be a bit more clean.Highly recommended to all the dosa lovers.

A famous franchise of Sarvana Bhavan in Kochi on main road to Marine drive.
Authentic South Indian items with very good quality and sizable portion.

Ambiance is ok and simple one.
Quick service here by staff.

Ample parking space opposite hotel for your cars.

Again my favorite Rava Roast. It was prepared with generous amount of GHEE, even dosa looked not bigger in size however a bit heavy for me.
Vadas and other type of dosas are must try.

Someone ordered Paper Roast, man that Dosa was Huge and Longggg...just loved it.

However I made payment by card, tried 2x, amount got deducted and reversed only once. I talked to hotel management, they said they will do the needful...seems their swipe machine is quite old what I noticed.

Only one word to describe the food and service "Excellent ". When in Cochin , visit to this place is must. Good ambience, good service, good food and very good sweets which are priced well.

I've had Saravana Bhavan food from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Paris before and liked it. But the one in Kerala absolutely blew my mind off.
I had the masala dosa and urunu vada and it was just melt in the mouth perfection.
The chutneys and sambhar which accompanied the dosa were so flavorful and delightful. The masala dosa itself was outstanding. Such crisp dosa and spicy masala.
The urunu vada was crunchy and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.
Absolutely loved it!
Definitely head to this place if you're looking for the best South Indian delicacies.

Best place to have vegetarian Tamil food... Not costly, not cheap... All verities of dosas, my favorite is idly(eat it in traditional way)... They also have North Indian cuisine including tandoori stuffs...

Worst experience ever. A/c not working. Malyali even don't like if some one request to fan on. Food was so so. Better food available in mumbai. Better to eat other place. Came here from long way to eat food.

Whenever travelling down south,at least one thali meal at Sarvana Bhavan should be compulsory. It's feels so good to eat on the banana leaf, a welcome change from our regular dinner plates. The steaming hot red or white rice, piping hot sambar and rasam, the humble thoran and lightly cooked seasonal vegetables sum up as soul food. It is a riot of flvaours in your mouth. The accompanying chutneys and papad add a lot of taste in between big bites. The bowl of payasam served at the end ( the food for the gods) is the sweetest part of the meal. The staff serving the thali are warm and keep coming back to refill portions urging you to have some more. This style of serving comfort food makes you feel like you are at a home away from home.

Saravana Bhavan is a vegetarian restaurant which is well frequented by Kochiites. Located close to High Court Junction, it is quite a busy place, which serves tasty South Indian breakfast dishes and a few North Indian dishes as well. Service is okay, but can get a little clumsy if they're having a busy day. Ambience isn't too bad either. It is my regular breakfast spot these days and I don't find a reason to complain about the place as such. Got to mention, their sambar isn't sweet, thankfully.

One of the best idlis in Kochi city. Excellent . Must try out ,,service very good , it's available till 7:00 am to 9:30 a m ,,,and evening till 5:00 pm to 6:30 p m

Nice place to have South Indian. Not doe the light tummy. As Indian foods tend to give you heart burns and gas. So keep that in mind. Zaheen Theruvathakath

May 2019 review:
I had not eaten from here for a long time. I recently had their masala dosa for breakfast and it was very, very good!

August 2017 review:
Dal fry and chapati is my favorite order from them.

Previous review:

Their chole battura is really nice. The aloo gobi is also ok. Sometimes their dosas can be nice. I now usually just have their chole battura.

A really good south indian vegetarian restaurant. Serving the usual fare of south iindian snacks and dishes. Their MAsala dosa is great served fresh and piping hot. The prices are very resonable. service might be abit slow during busy times but i am not complaining. End it off with their tea which hits the spot!

Being a non-vegetarian, my vegetarian friends find it extremely difficult to convince me to try their not so interesting veg meal while we go eat together, fortunately during Navaratri since I was fasting and could have only veg food my friends and I landed here to grab something to eat. I checked the menu and I found the dosa varieties to be vey interesting and hence ordered their mushroom masala dosas...they were so amazing, I was shocked veg food could make me so happy. Ever since I've been to the place so many times it's got amazing variety to offer at such reasonable prices and the quality is outstanding. I have cravings for those paneer and mushroom dosas most of the times! Best place for dosas and a lot of other South Indian food as well !
Bhavya Venugopal
One of the really good vegetarian restaurants in the city which serves the yummiest masala dosa in town. Their afternoon meals are really good and the sweets are also delicious. the service is prompt no matter how crowded the place is and I think this is the only restaurant in the city that knows how to actually manage crowds. Haven't tried any of their north indian dishes except chana bhatura (which was really good), but their south indian items are very good. They even have a chaat counter!

Super yum food at such affordable rates. With super prompt and courteous staff. The best thing being the availability of all the items on menu at all times of the day. A must go place !!

Exploring the vegetarian tastes in ernakulam, this is a gem. A neat hotel. Good food. Good service and ambience. We went there for lunch. By the time we were done with it, the place was filled! Would really suggest this place for those who loves vegetarian food. We had lemon rice/ aloo fry/ butter naan/ chappathi/ jilebi/ muttar paneer masala/ sambarr vada/
Tasty food at good price!

Had leaf meals. Was good. Three weeks of search found this hotel. Hmmm its not the real HSB. Is there any real hotel Saravanan bhavan in kochi...
Pankaj2788
Its very good hotel for veggies. As its very rare to find veg restro in Kochi. I had meals in this hotel and it has a pure keralian test in it. Just lived it. Its unlimited so have fun.....

This is another one of the good vegi spots in kochi. All their Tamil style dishes taste awsom. Their north Indian and Chinese items are not the best but yet they are good. The quality and quantity is good and the food is well priced .

The restaurant has a good ambience inside . there is ample seating. They have a car parking on the opposit side of the road which many people don't notice .

They also have a spsl sweets counter. They sell all kinds of sweets and all of them are really tasty. Some are a lill with too much ghee. But trying them out once in a while is good I guess .

This place is worth a try. I would recommend it to all .

Annette Catherine Paul
Best Tamil style food in town. Ideal breakfast food before heading off to the airport. The coconut chutney is too good.
Do not miss to try out their masala tea.
Athul
Best vegetarian as well as Tamilian style food restaurant in town. There are separate AC and Non AC restaurants.Service is good. The place gets crowded quite easily so be ready to wait. The lunch(meals) is a good choice. They also sell sweets and snacks over the counter.
Rahul KR
Good Vegetarian food; which is rare in city. Lunch is good and heavy... All you need is a good sleep after lunch to make your day. All types of dosas are good... Will always choose this place if am nearby...
Ruta Katre
The food is nice but the ambience n customer service should be improved. But als this is the case with all the restos except the 4-5-7 star hotels...
Zahad Syed
Had visited numerous times. The place is pretty close to where I live. Wasn't satisfied once when I had to bring a take away. Love all the dosas in there. They have both Ac and non Ac halls.

The best place for Veg food in Ekm!

As all know, Saravana Bhavan is pretty famous in South India. So far I had good experience from the hotel chain. The place is neat and the food served is hot and tasty. To those who haven't visited, a must visit hotel for vegetarian food. I really love their Dosa!
Ashley Sony

good hotel there is a peacefull environment while eating
because of his hard work he came up in his life .
i expecally thank mister padmanabhan (owner of the hotel) for his best food
and a good hospitality thank you so much.
Sangita
Have been here many times as it was next to my office .
Its a neat place with AC and nonAC areas, both the areas are neat. As the place is tamilian's based ,the taste is bit different but I like(mainly you can feel the differences if you have there meals)
I basically like many things, they taste good but not awesome.its average taste but worth try.
Hiran Venugopalan
Sharavana bhavan is one good point for vegetarians, specially when you are damn hungry and near Saritha Theatre. It's always filled, and noisy and the food is just OK, making the bill looks a high priced. Not a place to relax and eat, for that I would prefer many other MG Road Veg restaurants. Since it's a pure vegetarian hotel, the basic combos like Dosa-Chutney Poori-Masala are worth trying - but quality is not same always.
Jithu Ajayan Thaivalath
Located at a location which is hard to miss in the busy banerji road, this one cannot miss the eyes of anyone. And that is the main reason for the crowd which you can find here all the time. Food is just okay and nothing great to talk about. Quality is not consistent. Visit this place only if you need pure vegetarian food while in banerji road area as there are no other pure veg restaurants nearby.
The Food Guy
Saravana Bhavan on Banerji road is hard to miss. Located right next to Sarita theater complex, this place is known for their vegetarian food.

I have had food from here multiple times and also got food made from here for family get-together courtesy my cousin who knows the owner. Dosa ranks high in my list of favorites here. The chutney they serve is particularly nice. I like the chapathi kuruma & porota kuruma combo as well. Infact a typical meal here for me would include 1 plate dosa & one of the mentioned combos. Coffee is a must have with any meal here. We have got Sevaka (similar to idiyyappam) made from here. It was absolutely tasty and one of the best I have had.

Cleanliness wise also this place is pretty good. A must go place for veggies and all those who love vegetarian food!!
