Review Thakali - Gangtok

Good Nepalese restaurant inside MG Road. They have a decent thali spread and the price is ok. I had a candle light dinner as the electricity was not available. Food was delicious.Good for one time experience.

An awesome place for lunch. We ordered 1 plate of beef thakali , pork sausage chowmin and a 60 ml of honey 🐝. When you have time in Gangtok you must try this place once.

Excellent Thakali cuisine. Very tasty. On the main Street of Gangtok. Highly recommended for a poultry/meat based Sikkim food experience that is increasingly turning 'pure veg'. Service can be little bit more efficient. Maybe it was a case of lost in translation for me.

Great place for Nepali dishes. For me it's a must visit, when at Gangtok. Thalis are quite nice and coupled with a very friendly staff, makes this place very appealing. But try it only if you're open to eating different kinds of cuisine.

The food is fresh and tasty. We went there mainly to have pork and we are glad that we did. The pork thali was full of brilliantly cooked dishes and tasty condiments. The pork was well done and very soft. We also tried the pork sekwa. We were told that it would take 25 minutes to be done and it was worth the wait. The pork was smoky, little charred and heavenly.

There are always a few rare restaurants that serve food so good and service so personal that more, that a great food experience it becomes a memory.
It was raining pretty heavy in Gangtok, but we took our chances and went to MG Marg. We had been wanting to go to Thakali since we arribed in the city. We were greeted warmly and ordered ourselves a Chicken thaali and Pork choila.
Our server was a young girl with a warm smile who got our order surprisingly quickly. The thaali had Thakali dal which was amazing. Our favourites were the aloo tareko and golbera ko achaar. The Chicken and the Pork cholia paired well with the rice. We ordered refills to literally everything and stuffed ourselves to the brim. We left with a smile on our faces and our bellies full.

Rest_in_Spice gives it a 5/5 and is a must try.

Find us
Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/rest_in_spice)
LBB (https://lbb.in/users/ashish-chakravarty-tiptop)

Located on the other end of the MG Marg, the place is not very easy to find. I however, was keen to have some authentic nepali food so I made my there after a long walk. The place however turned out to be a dissappointment, just like its food.

Many items on the menu which were my reason to be there, weren't available.

The place also didnot seem to be be much hygienic. There were flies in the eating area.

Lastly, the portions were small too.

Food is average and service is pathetic. They have a strange norm for ordering minimum 4 roti/bread, if u want 1 or 2 they won't serve it. It takes forever to serve the food even when the place is only 20% occupied. The only thing good is the view from the window side tables.

This place serves Nepali cuisines. I personally did not quite like the food but it was worth a try. Ambience was decent and the waitress was friendly. This place can be given a try if you want some Nepali food.

A simple innocuous looking place from a first look. Welcomed and politely seated by staff. Asked for this mutton Thakkali thali and had modest expectations. However, the food was outstanding. Simply brilliant. Sadly couldn’t revisit. Keep the good food going guys .

Only thalis were available at 19.30 hrs. Mutton thali was good. The mutton was awesome but it contained lot of fat spare parts like pieces. That is the only reason for lower rating. Otherwise for Rs. 250.00 it is a good deal.
