Review Solpon - Gangtok

A good place to have local food. We had the laphing and a veg Buddha bowl. Laphing was a little too spicy for us, but the Buddha bowl was amazing, with quite a large quantity. Definitely better than most of the restaurants on MG Marg.

After freshening up in the hotel, I went out searching for both evening snacks and dinner, where I can chill out for a bit after the hectic journey. SOLPON was just the one I was looking for. It is right in the heart of Gangtok. The food was great, especially the Pork Ribs. The ambience is also great and the soothing music in the background will enhance the mood while sipping the cold beer.

If you get fed up of the commercially hyped up restaurants on mg road ( except a few) just 50 mtrs away Solpon is an absolute gem……. Very classy restaurant with delicious food and drink….. Service a bit slow but everything made to order and it gives you time to really soak in the atmosphere….. small menu but super delicious and everything is available and it covers all the bases….. So if you are in Gangtok please do check it out the entrance is a bit cryptic restaurant on the first floor enter through travel agency on the ground floor…..

Superb ambience, even better tasting food. Ask for recommendations from the owner and she will make sure you leave with a wonderful experience of Sikkim food.

Even many locals don’t know about this place, but those who do, swear by it. I am myself a regular here. Because this place is managed by the owner who doesn’t mind dirtying her hands in the kitchen , it shows in what’s in the plate. Pork Ribs, with steamed rice with assortments, come recommend, but then go with your gut.

You're in Gangtok, Sikkim and you don't want to look at another pizza. Nor can you stand the sight of the ubiquitous momo, found in every airport and mall. What do you do? You head for Solpon, the new eatery that reinvents Tibetan and Sikkimese fare into boutique offerings that delight both eye and palate. Sample the humble le'fing dipped in soya sauce, or crusty phaley bread with stir fried beef. And - if you have the 'stomach' for it - tripe with steamed buns. Clean, comfortable, minimal decor, moderately priced. A taste of Sikkim.
