Review Matamaal - Gurugram (Gurgaon)

Minakshi Singh
Hi Everyone, I have been planning for Kashmiri cuisine since days and finally I reached this Mata Maal Kashmiri Restaurant which is located at City court and nearest metro is Sikenderpur. This restaurant looks beautiful inside. The decoration will give you full kashmiri vibes. The wall is decorated with beautiful art work, wood work with fine carvings, they also have small shop at the entrance of restro where you can buy different spices, dry fruits, kurtas, and many more things. They have this constant kashmiri music which keeps playing in the background and i loved it. I loved the atmosphere, smell, music, decoration, and most important staff. Staffs were so polite, helpful and decent. They also offered us free Kehwa which is a famous drink in Kashmir. People always recommend these drinks. I also broke one glass by mistake but they didn’t charged me even single penny for that and I’m thankful for the behaviour. It’s very rare that you’ll get such decent staffs. But I’m not happy with the food I had. I had Wazwan chicken seekh which was okayish, also garlic naan and mutton rogenjosh which I really didn’t liked. Naan was good but mutton made me sad coz of the taste. I also had kehwa which was again fine but not sure. It’s not like i wont recommend to go there but the food which i chose was not apt according to my taste. I would recommend if you want to feel the essence of kashmir in delhi, definitely you can go here and keep me updated with the food you had which you find good in taste. I didn’t find the luck in taste this time. I’ll try again someday. To the staffs-Thank you so much for being humble and kind. I really appreciate the behaviour from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.🫶🏻

One of the most wonderful experience of having a kashmiri cusine. The ambiance is great, you will get the Kashmiri vibes here. Ample amount of sitting space is available including shikhara themed sitting and takhatposh. The food is great , we tried tehar ( yellow rice) , rogan josh ( mutton curry) , gaustabha( meat ball curry) and chicken kabab. Gaustabha was the most unique Dish I have ever tried, and its completely worth. Overall my experience was great, and will surely recommend others to visit this place to have some great kashmiri foods.

This is very good restaurant if you want to try something very authentic kashimiri food, wazwan, and meat delicacies. Service if good as well as the food is also nice. We tried kashmiri wazwan and tabak maaz. Everything was delicious but i liked specifically rista, tabak maaz and phirni. Price is on bit higher side. For 2 people a dinner cost to us around Rs 3000 where we shared all the meal. So for trying it is bit high price but if you have the budget then you must.

This is a very warm and welcoming place especially for people who love Kashmiri food and flavours. It is an awarded restaurant so I won't comment much, I found the service was bit slow on the day we visited. Rest food was served hot and had amazing flavours. We ordered wazwan chicken seekh, Mutton roghan Josh and dum aloo.

Lovely homely atmosphere. The food seems authentic. The Rogan Josh is definitely nothing like the Punjabi variety that passes off in every other restaurant. The waiters were a bit clueless though when we asked for more details. Truth be told, I didn't like the food at all though this is a matter of personal taste. It was a unique experience however and if anything, I enjoyed the kahwa and sheermal at the end.
Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal
Delicious Kashmiri Pundit food. Loved the signature Iced kehwa. Nadru Monj, Chetins, Kabargah, chicken kanti and seekh kebabs. Newbies should opt for the Thalis to get a taste of more stuff. Everything is fantastic here!
Bharat Bharija
The food here is good and service is excellent. I found the Yakhni gravy and Kabargah to be near the traditional items that I have eaten at my KP family friends home however Roganjosh is disappointing. Gushtaba meat balls were great.

Matamal - grandmother's house And it truly feels like home for many people. If you love authentic kashmiri cuisine then definitely come to this place.
Gaurav Saksena
Great, Kashmir food. Tried the Wazwan Thali, worth every penny.

Coming from a Kashmiri Pandit family, it sure feels nice to find a place which serves authentic Kashmiri food and trust me when I say authentic I mean it on a micro level. The quality of the food here is amazing and each and every item looks gorgeous. You'll feel the aura, the vibes coming from the place to be very positive. Kashmiri folk songs playing in the background while you eat your food. The presentation, the taste, the aura everything about this place is great and this is by far one of the best food I've eaten in Delhi. Do check this place out if you're planning to visit this area. If hungry, go Matamaal.

A hidden gem! Must try. Traditional, cozy and simple yet elegant personified. This restaurant offers cuisines of Kashmir, feels freshly home cooked. We ordered mutton roganjosh, mutton gustaba, and tehar ( turmeric ghee rice) and was delicious. The ambience, staff and service - brilliant! Family friendly. We wrapped up our dinner with warm kehwa. Prices are affordable. If you’re looking for something unique and traditional food, this is the place to be.

This was the first time I tried kashmiri food and I can say that I was a good experience for me. The place have a beautiful ambiance, wooden chairs Indian khatiya bed this was icing on the cake. The variety in menu for non veg options were great but veg options are less. I liked kewah there but pink salt tea was not for me I can say that. The taste of food is great and if you need something different you can definitely go there. They have great variety of bread also. The portion size is small I can say that but if you need something different you can try this place.

What an amazing experience we are having ever time we visit this restaurant. Hans and Nalini mam, these are the guys I always look upto. They are so kind and welcoming. One of the best experience I ever had. I had the best food of my life here.

The sitting areas are so traditionally crafted. The plates, ambience are just so beautiful.
I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Go once and you will not be able to stop yourself to come again.
The food here is just simply amazing and the wazwan feast is a must try!! U walk in here and they treat you like family and u get a warm kashmiri hospitality straightaway!

I had heard things about Matamaal but since its in Gurgaon, didnt think that eating from this restaurant would be possible, Just learnt that they are delivering pan NCR now.So i immediately placed an order. I am rather fond of Kashmiri cuisine as they specialise in Mutton which is my favourite.Tried quite a few items - excellent. The only complaint would be that the baqarkhani gets too tough to eat at home.Otherwise Katlam was good and soft. The mutton gravies are authentic - not toned down - unlike quite a few places in NCR that i have had in the past. You get the real thing here.Whether its the hot Marchwangun Korma ( Mutton ) or the roganjosh - both are awesome. Its been a long time since i got to eat the former as most restaurants which offer a toned down version of Kashmiri Pandit cuisine dont even dare to include it.The rista was also excellent. The koftas done perfectly - soft and succulent. Mutton quality is top notch.Rice is top quality Basmati ( of the class of aged India Gate which i prefer ). The phirni is nice with a strong kewra aroma. Overall, extremely pleased with this restaurant - will surely order from them regularly.
Mrinal Kashyap
Authentic Kashmiri cuisine. Enjoyed baigerkhani and masc.. mutton seekh kebab tatse was also very good but only two pieces in one plate was not expected.
Kauls
Best place for authentic & flavours of kashmir. Owners make each visit an excellent experience
Arundhati Ganguly
Dum aloo and marchwangan korma are must. And the best was Phirni. The ambience and decor reminded me of my Kashmir visit years ago. But I wouldn't brag about the portions served. They are VERY less compared to the price. Great food tho
Pallav Kaishorya
Happy to taste Kashmiri flavour in Delhi-NCR.
Visited them in Gurgaon from Indirapuram (Ghaziabad) and ordered their famous Wazwani Thali, flavours were distinct for each dish but somewhat overall experience did not live up to the expectation of their reputation.

Their thali price was 1200 in the menu as shown in the picture and their bill mentioned 1500. On raising this issue they gave a discount of 300.

Management must look in to this and print new menus if the price is changed.

Vineet Nakhasi
Rajma rice was just added with masala nothing else and last time they sent me one day old katlam..Guys if your really want to achieve heights minimise ur menu and maximise your quality being a kashmiri i know how food taste is... I am not going to order anything from you now onwards...
Harish
Its just Awsome ,and value for money would never be answered issue .I would be more of an experience. ❤
Mayukh
Excellent taste. Relaxed ambience. Clean. The availability of some food items can vary but altogether a nice experience. Great attempt to introduce the culture of Kashmir here
Myshkin Kachroo
It’s a wonderful place to eat
My second favourite after Ahdoos from Srinagar
I recommend going to Matamaal since the taste is authentic and also because wazwan is my weakness
Vinamr Manocha
Matamal food enjoys a very high respect in our family and that's why despite COVID-19 scare we decided to order from them when we got a text message this morning that they are delivering across Gurugram but the food today was totally disappointing. Not one thing was right from the kabargah to the masc to the goushtaba to the mutton yakhni to nadroo yakhni, nothing kept upto its reputation. Tough kabargah, very hard goushtaba and even the most basic yakhni gravy tasted insipid. Even the breads we ordered (kulchaa and sheermal) seemed stale, only the roth tasted good. Even their signature walnut chutney today tasted only like masala dahi. Shufta had 80% peanuts and that is when this sweet is priced more than 1500 a kilo. What's happening guys ???
Prateem Ghosh
Awesome ambience.....but the best part is the food....every single dish was just outstanding....great hosts.....all in all an awesome culinary experience ....refreshing to eat something so good which is not the usual chinese, asian and typical north and south Indian cuisine.....keep it up...
Prem Anand
Thank you for serving us authentic Kashmiri cuisine.
We tried their non-veg Rogan Josh and korma which I felt no place has served me yet.
In veg Dum aloo was an obvious order and palak nadur( lotus stem with spinach).
It was a great experience and a must go place
Nishant Khanna
Delicious food. Wazwan thali - Bag full of flavours. Definitely visiting again and again.

So good to have a Kashmiri speciality restaurant in Gurgaon. Tried Matamaal with a friend who's a big fan of the place. I was a bit apprehensive initially, considering that I'm a vegetarian and I assumed that a Kashmiri place would primarily serve nonveg. However I was pleasantly surprised not only to see the wide range of vegetarian substitutes to every dish on their menu including roganjosh, but also there was no disturbing smell of nonveg which mostly lingers in such places. Such pleasant vibes, lovely hosts and the beautiful Kashmiri folk music that they play in the background. Also absolutely do not miss out the amazing collection of breads and dry fruits thay they sell. We order paneer kanti, Kashmiri dum aloo, wak saag, sheermaal, and lavasa. Their sheermaal is the best I've ever tasted with perfect crunchiness, roasting, and sweetness. I personally feel that the oil content in dishes can be reduced a bit, but I've also been told that Kashmiri dishes are quintessentially oil rich. I'd give them 4 out of 5 as I still see some scope of improvement. Go there for a different Kasmiri experience and for a cosy feeling :)

Ambience: 4/5
Service time: 5/5
Food taste: 4/5
Menu range: 4/5
Value for money: 5/5

Overall: 4/5

Poor quality cooking. Also overcharging for Shivratri puja material.

We went to this place by chance while shopping on the Sikanderpur road and it was the best decision ever !!! The warmest welcome and comfortable ambience, with beautiful music playing and sweet artifacts which just made it better. Although we are vegetarians, I know for a fact that their wazwaan and roganjosh is top class cause we saw a table next to ours savouring it! We had the spinach and lotus stem, dum aloo and chok (eggplant in tangy gravy) with assorted breads. Our order taker suggested all this and she was just top notch (Maria) the breads were very filling and freshly baked in their bakery next door. Even the accompaniments of radish In curd and onions were amazing!

The food was well cooked in masalas but the only thing I feel can be improved is the quantity of oil used. Everything else food wise was lovely and we ended with the Kehwa and sheerma biscuit kind of bread which was delectable. Overall the experience was 100% and value for money. The owner/manager interacted with us regularly and was genuinely interested on all tables.

They also sell teas, masalas, breads, dry fruits and lots more. I just loved it and will come back again just to eat the non veg :)
Preet Chhatwal
Pathetic service and worst non veg thali in rs 1400 you will get a bowl of steam rice, 01 ps mutton and lotus stem ... Waste of money, after this they will charge you service charge as well.. never try
Varun Singh
Overpriced and no value for money.. portion size will disappoint you for sure.
Satish Raina
U can have anything wether veg or non veg everything is good about the place. The owners r fabulous people. They always treat guest as family members
Neil Jean Bhatnagar
We ordered some rajma and some aloo dum.. both were great but special mention for the rajma which was very well prepared and tasted great.. comes really close to the kasmiri taste
Khake_dekh
I have sense of taste for Kashmiri nourishment because of my Kashmiri friends. So visited this spot on there proposal. to my surprise I was not disapointed. The roghan josh, dum aloo, baigerkhani are an unquestionable requirement have alongside the Kehwa!

On the off chance that you are searching for a Nice, comfortable spot to make some extraordinary memories with family, do visit and savor the stunning food.
All though they need to work a bit more on the food quality , but still getting authentic Kashmiri food in NCR is not easy.
Palash Taing
After hearing upteen number of reviews from peers, we decided to finally try food from Matamaal. We ordered a portion each of Mutton Rogan Josh, Chaman (Paneer in Red gravy) and Dum Aloo.
The taste was on point except the size of dum aloo was not apt and did not taste as expected.
We called for a vegetarian thaali as well. It was alright and nothing great.
Mutton Rogan Josh was tastefully prepared and so were the Mutton Balls (Machzz)
Nadru churma the size and crispness was a disappointment. Could have been much better.
Being a Kashmiri, I can say that the food is close to authentic.
Recommend this place !
Purav Rustagi
The place is on the second floor of the city court. The ambiance is decent with various interesting pics of Kashmir on the walls and also a shikara at the entrance as one of the sitting place.

It offers only Kashmiri food with ala carte and thali both options available - veg thali cost around 800 and non veg around 1200 , the ala carte portion size is small so if you are 2-3 people you would need to order 3-4 dishes minimum.one dish cost around 250 rs

When we went there ,no breads because bakery was closed so we were served only parathas which were oily.

Rajma , yellow paneer and mooli with curd is one thing which I would recommend.

Also since thali is fixed so two people can share so I think it’s a better option for 2 people than ala carte considering lot many options in thali if you wanna to try all the Kashmiri dishes.

But overall I found the place pricy.

Ambiance 3/5
Food 4/5
Price 2/5

It’s a place to go when you are die hard Kashmiri food fan else this place may disappoint you.

This was my 2nd visit. First time visited was Sept this year and had all veg this time. I loved your authentic kashmiri preps and spices which is same as my Mom uses at home. Please always maintain quality and authentic kashmiri preparation no matter how higher you you go in your pursuit. Best wishes!
Kanika
First of all this place had a bit of smell. Second we ordeded yaniki with rice (veg and chicken). It turned out to be a disaster. The food looked stale. The gravy was thin as water. And the lotus stem was having weird threads while eating. Went here with high hopes. But was a great disappointment. Told the staff as well but they din care much. Would not recommend this place at all.
Hanuwant Singh
What a cozy happy place. The kashmiri food was excellent. We ordered a Wazwaan thali and a Nonveg thali. Awesome spread...total non veg delight. Rogan Josh, yakhni and the meatballs were excellent. As will as the one veg dish...paalak with lotus stem. The thali was fully loaded!
The owner couple were extremely helpful and on the job. Personal touch, good staff and overall a great lunch.
Certainly will go back.

Since we've been back from Kashmir from our travels. The one thing that has stayed with us has been the kashmiri food especially the Wazwaan. We had been craving it for quite some time now and that's when we found Matamaal. We went there for lunch and ordered the non-veg & the Waazwan Thali along with Lavaash, Sheermal and Phirni. The food was Exquisite, especially the Rista, Goshtaba, Haak saag and Kabargaah. The flavors were really good and sent you back to Kashmir. However, the Laavash was extremely dry and not palatable at all. The Sheermaal and Phirni were pretty good.
The ambience is Nice, it's simple. It's got a lot of kashmiri Decor to give you the feel. There is a houseboat themed space which is pretty nice. They also have a lot of things on sale including Kashmiri breads and Kehwa.
It's a great place for family lunches, especially during the Delhi Winters and the holiday season.

After hearing a lot about Matamaal.. finally decided to go for a visit..
Ordered mutton seekh kebab, mutton biryani, dum aloo, chicken roganjosh, baigerkhani, lavasa, sheer chai and fresh lime water.

I liked the seekh kebab, though a little dry for my taste, they were flavourful.

Mutton biryani was not for my taste. People might like it for their own reasons, but I have had better Kashmiri biryanis and found it miles away from the original taste.

Chicken roganjosh and dum aloo were full of oil. The entire oil was used in making these two dishes. While I disliked the chicken roganjosh, I quite liked dum aloo ( sans the oil thing ). Baigerkhani and lavasa were very very very dry. Looked stale - probably reheated to be served to us.

Sheer chai was okay okay. And the waiter forgot to get me fresh lime water which was the first thing I placed as my order. I reminded him about it and was served to me while we were paying the bill.

Like we say, he saved the best for the last!

This is a good restaurant if you are craving for some authentic Kashmiri food. Others won't like it of they haven't tasted it ever. the preparations are a little on oily side. Breads are really good.
Sandy
Being a kashmiri ourselves, we know the actual taste of roth, so what they are serving is totally different and so sogy, It’s so raw from inside that we feel like we r eating raw wheat flour.katlams are equally bad bcos they r so chewy one can’t enjoy the taste. We also visited the place twice in the past ,it didnot meet our expectations due to rude and irresponsible staff, authenticity is totally missing there. Cooking staff is not at all kashmiri so we can’t expect them to cook our kashmiri food with same authenticity. We hope they can work on these parts and give us authentic kashmiri food, we ll be happy to come back.
Aditya
Food is average . Don’t get the hype about this place. Have eaten at better places in Kashmir !
Neeraj Kumar
It has an exceptionally decent stylistic theme with great sittings and very much prepared staff. The tunes playing in soft tone there in foundation gave this spot s quiet touch with the heavenly climate and benevolent staff. We requested a vegan thaali and a non veggie lover thaali.
Ridhi Murari
Authentic Kashmiri cuisine. Cooked well but vegetarian can be worked upon better.
Anushikha Mondal
Had been planning to visit this place since a very long time. A very few restaurants offer kashmiri food and this is the one which offers the most authentic one. The portion size are sumptuous. We were 3 people dining and ordered for a non veg and a wazwaan thali and it was quite filling. The mats, roganjosh and hakh were the star. Rista and goshtaba could be a bit better as the mutton tasted a bit bland . Phirni is a must try. The staff is very friendly and courteous. Matamaal truly offers value for money.
Sugata Mukherjee
Since I' ve rarely had Kashmiri food at a Kashmiri restaurant , I was game for Lunch at Matamaal.

Ambience is cozy like a typical mountain eatery.

There were only two of us who are not big eaters, so we ordered only 2 dishes.

Starter- Kabargah. Pan fried mutton ribs marinated in milk and herbs. This was subtly flavoured and delicious. Soft inside and crispy outside. Accompanying raddish raita was tasty .

For main course we ordered the famed mutton Gushtaba with rice. While the gravy was delicately flavoured but the meatballs were tasteless and not succulent. No gravy entered the meatball.
And Rs 350 for the portion of two meatballs in small bowl of gravy is definitely expensive.

We were entitled to free dessert as we had booked through easydinner . We were served one small plastic bowl of Firni, which was one of the worst ones we've had. Didnt bother clicking picture.
I believe this is served as dessert along with Wazwan thali which costs Rs 1200 + taxes. What a shame.

Kahwa was refreshing.

Total cost of the meal was 955 along with taxes and service charges.

Great food and authentic Kashmiri cuisine

The restaurant seems quite hyped. The food when we visited was very salty. The gravies used for two dishes across mutton and chicken were essentially same from what i can make out and were very salty. Also the goshtaba gravy was also salty. The breads were a bit a thick which become difficult to eat if not eaten immediately but that may be the how it is to be eaten.
Roganjosh Mutton- Good
Masc- Bad
Goshtaba- Bad too salty
Kebab- I didnt like the hollow structure one.
Breads- Would have preferred a hot roti not pita bread or dastarkhani ( may have pronounced wrongly)
Fritters- Very Good

If you are serving what i feel is like Dhaba food at least keep prices reasonable and also check if salt is fine and you balance spices.
Nishant Qazi
Beautiful, warm, welcome and friendly staff. The food was awesome and to die for.
If you value and are a food enthusiast, this is a Must Try Place. The owners personally visited us on our table and ensured that everything was okay.
It was a awesome experience.

i have recently been here and food was absolutely amazing they have good options in food. We had ordered vegetarian thali in main course and in desert firni. All dishes are up to mark. You should definitely planned to go here.
For non veg lovers mutton seekh kabab is the best option to have here.
Crowd was also good, proper dinning place.
Foodliness
Went to this place to try the authentic kashmiri mutton roganjosh. The place has a very nice decor with good sittings and well trained staff. I ordered a kashmiri roganjosh with some breads. The roganjosh was ultimate. I could not express its real taste in my words. It had a very rich flavor of all the spices and the gravy was thick with the mutton pieces properly immersed in that. Overall a wonderful place for having dinner any time.
The Venture Vibe
I ordered chicken kebab kanti which costs Rs 225 and wanted more of it. The delicious taste along with tempting presentation made it a perfect meal.
The songs playing in low voice there in background gave this place s peaceful touch with the divine ambience and friendly staff.
Happy with the visit :)
Diksha Aggarwal
Recently visited this place with my friends. We ordered vegetarian thali and mutton seekh kebab. The food was upto the mark and likeable. The ambience of this place is decent. I would love to visit this place again!
Authentic Kashmiri Pandit cuisine. A lovely family run restaurant. A must-go-to.

We love the authentic Kashmiri food! Everything is good but favourites are the kabargah and palak rishta and mutton rogan josh. Food is served with great attention and love leaving you wanting to return again and again. Well done Matamaal

Belonging to a JAIN family, I am a total VEGETARIAN. We were recently invited to a friend's place for dinner and the food was ordered from MATAMAAL..We found the food very tasty until we noticed MUTTON PIECES and BONES in a DUM ALOO dish. It's sad that Matamaal is indulging in this MALPRACTICE to make their vegetarian food taste better. you are cheating people that are vegetarian for various reasons that could be either religious or health for that matter. It's just not done.
Vegetarians please be careful while ordering food from here !!
Aditya M
What an amazing place. They feed you with love, the service is quick and the food is way too amazing. Start with the mutton seekh kabab. The rogan josh is spicy and very well made, try that with goshtaba but i'd recommend to have rice instead of roti to really enjoy it. and don't forget to have phirni to neutralise the taste at the end ;)
Saurabh Sharma
Very good place for kashmiri cuisine lovers.
Had tasted tested following
Rajma good taste
Dum aloo good taste
Mutton and chiken rogan josh awesome
Seekh kebab not good
Mutton yakhni good
Lavasa okaiysh would prefer roti
Masc kind of ok
So overall place good to go but prices are on higher side compared to quantity.
And yes i had ordered nadur monge which was not at all good and paneer rogan josh which was good.

If you’re looking for a place which serves authentic Kashmiri Cuisine then your search stops here. It’s a very basic cafe with limited seating but extremely relaxing & comfortable dining experience. Very clean & well maintained.
There Roganjosh with Lavasa & Mutton seekh kebabs are to die for. Absolutely mouthwatering.

Highly recommended!

I am from Mumbai and frequent to Delhi very often. This is one place I would like to keep in my bucket list every time I travel. It’s kind a home clocked good one can have. Though I know I have a distinct taste but couple of things should be taken care off . Visited there yesterday for lunch and Roganjosh seems extra salty. There is a difference between mutton and lamb and when are served lamb instead of mutton then your perception goes for a toss ..it’s not about only taste but smell, perception makes you satisfied.
Siddhanta Mangal Kashyap
Very nice place with some great Kashmiri cuisines. Very good service and cordial staff. Good place..

Amazing authentic Kashmir food . Had non veg thali . Except Kali everything was fresh and tasted good . Mutton was well cooked. Must visit if missing Ghar Ka Khana.
Seerat Gowhar
Tried their non-vegetarian thali ... I literally felt I was having special kashmiri home cooked food .
If u want to eat authentic kashmiri food then you must have it .
Please don't read any other review .. go and give it a try and then see for Ur self ❤️❤️

This is clearly the worst place ever. And the place is so so overpriced that you would rather kill yourself than paying for the horrible food. Guys as a food blogger I advise you not to visit this place ever. The taste is bad, portion size is really small compared to the price etc
Rajat Matta
I went to this outlet with my parents and they have been to this place earlier and liked it. We ordered Kabargah, Mutton Kebab, Marswangun Korma, Gushtaba and Kehwa. The Kabargah was flavoursome juicy but a bit chewy ( I guess that is how it is supposed to be). The mutton kebab were dry and kind of bland, the flavour coming from the radish chutney and onions. The gushtaba in the main course was fine, nothing great to write home about and korma was let down with the meat pieces were undercooked, the restaurant replace the same, but by that time we lost our appetite. Finally we had the kehwa, which was great. On enquiring we got to know the main chef / owner - Nalini was not in and someone else had prepared the food that day, which was quite evident from the food quality, to my parents.

The staff was polite, they have tried to give a Kashmiri feel to the place with the Shikara look, but some part of it was still under construction.
Dhriti Goyal
The food was good and served at a reasonable price. Light Kashmiri music playing in the back, just adds to the mood. My only issue with this place was Flies. A lot of them. Had ordered a Wazwan Thali, but it got ruined because of Flies. Please do something about it.
Ruchi Sodhi
I love the food and the people who run the show. They put in a lot of effort in running the place and it shows, that is why I frequent the place. The reason I am only taking one point away is that I hate the staff. One of the most unfriendly, rude staff they have. Twice I visited the place and twice was blatantly told no for almost every bread in the menu. The issue is when you speak to the billing desk or the family they are up and ready to offer a solution but, the staff ruins all the efforts. If you order a bread like paratha they will tell you that your entire main course will come but the breads will come 20 mints after it. They continue to warn you and Harrow you to order rice maybe because the kitchen staff is too lazy or they encourage the staff to do so. I hope the owner reads the review and realise that their labour of love is being wasted by such staff. Please teach them the words TLC tender love n care

Good place to enjoy authentic Kashmiri food, polite staff and comfortable seating
Visited this lovely place called Matamaal. They serve authentic Kashmiri cuisine. This restaurant is run by a lovely Kashmiri lady, upon asking she told us the meaning of Matamaal - Nani ka ghar. The place is cosy, service is prompt and customer oriented.

P.S - Heaven for spice lovers but people like me who don’t eat a lot of spicy food should tell the server in advance to go light on the chillies.

Just ordered from Matamaal and wanted to let you guys know my experience. I've had Rajma from this place before and it set up a very high expectation for me from this place as it was completely authentic kashmiri taste. Someone who has been exposed to diverse Kashmiri food and culture, I know how the dishes taste like. I ordered make your own meal. Asked for mooli n walnut chutneys, dum aalo and mutton rista. It came in a bowl packaging all mushed up together. Had no flavors. Rista was hard, tasted more like a big processed meatball. Dum aalu, I couldn't taste and the gravy of both submerged the rice and I couldn't differentiate. Walnut chutneys was really less in quantity and if they charge extra 25 for it,
at least it should be significantly added. The mooli chutney was more given than the one extra paid for. Also it tasted pretty good. I would just suggest try not to order meal bowls, rather try separate items. For 450rs it's not worth it. You can go to Old Delhi and enjoy kashmiri food with unlimited refills which are really authentic and worth the hassle.

Visited this place yesterday. Ours was group of 6 pax (4 adults, 2 kids). We had heard a lot of good things about the place and hence decided to give it a try. Being KP ourselves we were more keen on trying the Wazwaan delicacies. Starting with ambience; the dining space is limited but the ethnic decor and music makes up for it.We started with chicken kanti and kabargah , both were delicious. However it was the main course which left lot to be desired. The Marchwangan korma had a thin/watery gravy (unheard and unseen amongst non veg preparations of Kashmiri households ) . The Lavaas bread served to us was stone cold and appeared half-baked. Rice served to us was of very average quality (neither fragrant nor hot). Gostabha and Masc though were as per expectations. I understand that running a specialty restaurant is a huge challenge in a competitive market like Gurugram..but getting the basics right can surely help. Would have loved to give it a 4 🌟 rating for efforts put in by founder for breathing life into our fading culture

Being a kashmiri myself, I have been eating kashmiri food throughoug my life. And this is the only place where you feel the exact home made traditional kashmiri food is made. Awsome taste and the real kashmiri cuisine! If you want to try what kashmiri food tastes like, go here!

The food there brought me nostalgic memories of the time when I was in Kashmir. Ordered chicken seekh kabab, goshtaba, plain rice, walnut chuney, taaf and shukta. The kebabs tasted a lil bit bland but was compensated with their signature tasty chutneys that was served with them. Goshtaba had 2 mutton balls in a traditional yoghurt based Kashmiri gravy. It was very flavourful, luscious and mouth watering. Had it with rice just how Kashmiris like to eat it in their Wazwaan meal. Walnut chutney - what a relish it was. Asked them make it more spicy for me which they agreed to. Taaf was a refreshing drink. In the end , had shukta to sweeten our night. I regret not trying their other dishes since me and my have a small stomach. Will definitely go again for same. I talk about their ambience , they have really put in their best efforts to give you a proper Kashmiri feel with the music they play, floor seating and one can find a shikaraa too in there. We chosed to sit on the floor and eat. All in all it was a wonderful experience.

The food is awesome. You can truely feel the kashmiri flavours. The service was average though. The staff was courteous. We ordered veg starters and main course and it was good. The phirni in desserts was not too good. Must visit from my end.

Most of the Delhi/NCR people might not be aware about Traditional Kashmiri Bakery items as delicacies worth trying as snacks or with cup of hot tea/Kehwa. These have been created & consumed in Kashmir since centuries, by professional bakers called Kandurs. The Tandoors are the same earthen ones, however, the outcome is very different here. I would suggest them to try these freshly hand toasted & earthen baked Roath,Telvour, Katlam, Baegerkhani etc. of course with a dollop of butter over these. I ordered few items yesterday and these were simply awesome. Hats off !!!

Very tasty food and excellent service! We were here from out of town and wanted a place to eat within walking distance of our hotel. We ordered the express dinner and it came with so much food! Our choices were Mutton Goshtaba, Mutton Rista and Sheermal. Everything was fresh, flavorful and hearty! Would definitely be back again. We both ate a lot and still had leftovers.

The food here is exceptional. We've been here a number of times, and have never been disappointed. Also, they get the food out pretty quickly which is always a plus. The staff is very welcoming and gives great service. Kanti Kebabs, Mutton Seekh Kebabs are recommended dishes in Starters, in the Dessert dont miss the Sheermal, and in the Main Courses Roganjosh, Mutton yakhni is recommended.

This restaurant never disappoints! I have been eating here multiple times a week, and have never had a bad experience. I still haven't found anything in their menu that isn't good. They are extremely consistent with both the quality food their food and the timeliness of it being prepared. I think the longest I have ever had to wait is 10 minutes. I would highly recommend their Kashmiri specials, a great value for their price. Their entrees might seem like they are priced high but can easily be split between 2 people sometimes 3. If you are looking to try a new Kashmiri Cuisine food place give them a try, you won't regret it!

The food here is always great. We usually order Chicken Kebab Kanti and Mutton Goshtaba. The food is authentic and the prices are reasonable. It's our go-to Indian restaurant in Gurgaon. Prices are reasonable and portion were high too.. Flavours are very unique and all the dishes have aroma of Kashmiri Herbs n Spices.

Great tasting food and a large variety to choose from is the speciality of this place. The service is fast and people are really polite.

The downside is the quantity. Compared to other places, Matamaal serves very little quantity when you go for their curries. It’s barely sufficient for a single person. And since Kashmiri cuisine is most enjoyable with rice, this becomes a major concern. Even for one person, the quantity of curry is not enough. Now while Kashmiri’s eat rice with very little curry, the same is not true for i people coming from other cultures.

They should give sufficient curry and the rest is anyways good.

Terrific service, dude who is genuinely passionate about his food. I had some Kanti Kebabs had a real authentic Kashmiri type taste to it. Rice in the dish was so fresh and aromatic. Chicken was tender.
The lamb was SOOO tender and fell right off the bone. Probably slow cooked for at least few hours hours to achieve that kind of fall off the bone magic. It had a beat of heat to it with the fresh kashmiri herbs n spices in there. The lamb dish was a tiny bit salty, little less of that and it would've been a 10/10 dish.
Bread is traditionally cooked, that strange lookin oven that naan sticks to the side of. Absolutely terrific Indian food here, I'm going back for traditional masala one of these days
