Review Shaikh Brothers - Guwahati

Rajib Bhattacharjee
Old heritage of Guwahati very old and supreme bakery with lots of varieties. They have cakes pastries bread items and other Patties items. Located at a Prime location this place is always crowded with customers.
Kalyan Lahkar
Very old heritage place. Has some of the good baked products including cakes, bread, pastries and savoury items. There is now a small area for eating inside. Have been visiting this place since I was at school. The quality of the savoury items have sadly taken a downward trajectory. Price is reasonable. Would recommend the pastries and bread. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Guwahati as a tourist.
Shatabdi Goswami
Wide variety of pastries, cakes, snacks are available here. Oldest bakery of the city.
Vijendar Rawat

Grocery store and bakery store to provide you best bakery products. Perfect place to purchase cake pastries and other bakery products for birthdays and parties.

One of the oldest places to eat in India. Established in the year 1885.Most of the items were over when we reached the place around 7 pm , tells you how popular this place is. There is a good reason for this too , the food is value for money and tasty. We tried egg bhurji patties priced at 35 per piece , it was good , well filled with stuffings. This place was in my places to eat when I visit Assam list , and I was satisfied. ❤️
Mehtaz Marin
One of the oldest bakeries in town. Love the cookies and the snacks out there. We bought Naankhatai, chocolate cookies and salted cookies. In snacks, we purchased Chicken Burger, Chicken Roll, Chicken Pizza and Roast Chicken. All the food was delicious but the Roast Chicken was a must try. The place is really busy but servicing is really good. Prices are reasonable. You are not allowed to eat inside the bakery. A must try for everyone.
Pakhi Kalita

It is said that this is the oldest bakery in Guwahati. The bakery is quite small by area hence is very congested. We tried many pastries and cakes and they were fairly good. The price of the cakes are also reasonable. Overall we had a good experience.

Established in 1885, Shaikh brothers in Panbazar, Guwahati is the oldest Bakery in Assam and also one of the oldest in India. This 138 year old bakery that used to import raw materials from Belgium and Australia by steamer had many prominent patrons including Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Chief Minister of Assam and Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. The legacy of this iconic bakery is still synonymous with quality and it is a treat to your taste buds. #AwesomeAssam #ShaikhBrothers #Heritage #History #Panbazar #Bakery #CullinaryDelight #TasteBuds #Cakes #Pastries #Biscuits #MouthWatering #Legacy #Assam #ExploreAssam #ExploreGuwahati #TravelAssam #TravelGuwahati #WelcomeToAssam

Shaikh Brothers is the best bakery in Assam which was started in 1885. I personally love to eat the biscuits and cakes of Shaikh Brothers. I am from Sontoli, a village about 100 kilometres away from Shaikh Brothers but while I go to Guwahati city I like to buy their products for my home. If one is new to Shaikh Brothers them it will definitely change his/her taste and choice of biscuits, bread and cake.

Sunayana Sen
One of the oldest and most famous places located in Panbazar. The bakery biscuits, and hot dog are my favourites. Have tried a lot if other items too, but they are average.
Raktim Engti
Been here many times during my college days. Liked the bakery items. A legendery shop with a long history. Recently, visited it again. The taste and quality is like the same. Awesome.

One Perfect way to summarize this place is Nostalgia. I personally believe sheikh brothers holds a special place in the heart of every Guwahatians.
Abhinab Kashyap
It's a century Old Bakery, providing quality products since. If you are a bakery lover, you must try the butter cake and the chicken samosas. Parking for This place is usually hard on weekdays, and the shop is always jam-packed with customer. Guwahati's Best Bakery Shop, without any doubt.

Probably the oldest and most famous bakery in Guwahati.
Keeping the nostalgia part aside...the bakery makes some items well, like some salty snacks and cookies. It's a delight to have their freshly made breads.
Cakes and pastries are their weakest link.... people of Guwahati used to adore their cakes once upon a time, when options were very limited....but now there are many more bakeries who make much better cakes and pastries.
I hope they improve their quality and keep up their legacy of being the oldest and the best bakery in Guwahati.
Overall, it's Still a good place to buy some freshly made cookies n breads.
Er. Joti Mohar Das
One of the oldest and best bakery in Guwahati. Their cookies are just awesome. Every evening there is rush. My parents are very much fond of their S-shaped cookies.
Siddhant Das
This is one of the oldest bakeries in Guwahati. So much so, that my grandmother has been a loyal customer of this joint for over 6 decades now.

However, the problem with sheikh brothers is that it established itself and flourished at a time when people were satisfied with less. Fast forward to the present day, although it is still thronged by loyalists, it it has failed to adapt to the changing times. While sometimes that may be a good thing, in this case it is not since the food is not very good.

I still drop in every now and then for the mutton patty and while i enjoy it to an extent, I would rate the items available here between average and good. I feel that a new direction and strategy is the need of the hour for this ageing stalwart.

Shaikh brother provides the best dry cake ever. The nuts and crackers there are tasty. They are one of the best bakery shops in guwahati. One of the oldests too
Arishma Medhi

The famous Shaikh Brothers shop..the saying "jitna kahe utna kam hai" perfectly fits with this place. The place itself is a slice of history - it's been around for a long long time and has held its ground. It has its own set of customers, a"fan base" as one would describe it. Once famous for their pastries, patties and other snacks the place has lost its sheen during recent times with strong competition offering more attractive options. I would dearly love to see this place chart a turnaround and get back its lost glory. All the best!
Maddy
The only bakery famous during 80s & 90s is the shaikh brothers....famous for their cakes, pastry, paties etc...
Though it has nw lost its glory as many bakery competitors are up in the market.... Pricing are pocket friendly.

Yummilicious food is found here.Be it pastry or bread, every item is so soft and tasty.........................................................
ABHIJIT BHARALI
This place has maintained its legacy since the nineteenth century. The cakes are still a reminder of the history it created. Apart from pastries and sweets, snacks and fast foods are also available.
Monami Bhuyan
Sheikh Brothers is the epitome of what nostalgia embodies. I still remember those good old days when my grandad would bring home freshly baked cookies from Sheikh Brothers and the entire room would be subsumed by their fragrance. It still remains one of the busiest and highest selling bakeries especially at Panbazar with customers ranging from college kids to grandads and grandmoms for whom no other bakery could probably be at par with Sheikh Brothers no matter how fancy they are. Sadly though, the quality did deteriorate for an interim period of time. Having said that, owing to tough competition from nearby coffee shops and bakeries like Repose, they have started to eschew their old school baked goods and are incorporating newer stuff in their exchequer. However they still have a lot to keep up with, especially with their cakes. I for one am not a fan of their icing which has an unlikeable buttery aftertaste that sticks to your tongue. But this place would still hold a memorable place in my heart no matter what!
Cheers
Atlanta Talukdar
132years of legacy.. Maintained the same taste and quality. I love the pastries specially the small vanilla flavoured square shaped white pastry.
Rimzim Lahkar
This is an age old bakery, probably one of the firsts bakeries in Guwahati. They have maintained their quality since beginning. Love their pastries, my favourites being black forest and blueberry. Their cream roll and cookies are good.
Nowadays, you get cute white chocolates there, which costs 5 rupees per piece. Overall, a good bakery in town!

Estd 1885
131 years old that is
What a legacy
And the best bakers in the city
Longing to visit soon again
For the cream rolls add the soft pastries
Prerna Mittal
One of the oldest bakery yet till today. Its situated right on the main road and no difficulty are found to get in the address. The taste of the items are better. Even its one of the most reputed and oldest.
Kaushik
This is one place where even my father used to have snacks during his college days 😃. They used to make the best pastries in town and they still do.
Anupam Sarma
oldest bakery in Ghy that I know of.
many fond memories of childhood because this was the only place which could bake fancy shaped cakes.
The bakery items here are very delicious and super pocket friendly.
Foodieforeverandever23/Kabyashree
May be the oldest one in guwahati Shaikh brothers located at Panbazar is a beautiful Bakers confectionary shop for excellent cakes and cookies... Maintained its extra ordinary tastes from ages and it's still one of the best in the city ...
It's an affordable place for everyone and I recommend you guys should try the very famous Shaikh Brothers for its yummy delights...👍
Twahir Alam
This is no doubt the oldest and most well known bakery in Guwahati. There used to be a time when there was only one name for cakes in Guwahati but sadly with time many new ones came up and its name was almost forgotten but the recent makeover has again brought it back into reconing. Today its cakes are again one of the best in Ghy and also, the others snackef served are also good to eat.
Kkkishore
I have been to this place since I was 6 or 7. Usually my father would buy me chicken patties or pastries.
They serve chicken dish which is seriously worth the money as it costs only 75 rupees the last time I visited and is best eaten hot.
Their cakes used to be my regular birthday cake but the quality of the cake icing degraded and hence shifted to brown creams from then on.
Try their chicken leg and also the chicken patties..the patties have minced chicken and is really worth the price.

Have to start with "one of the oldest". Old not always remains gold. Itz still the age old shaikh brothers hardly any changes. The quality of cakes and pastries they serve cannot be compared to the now available numerous star bakeries in Guwahati. Quality needs to be improved varitey needs to be brought in. Othawise Old Is Gold :)
Jeff ( ZaFaR) Navas
One of the oldest and best bakeries in guwahati... It's a legendary place in pan Bazaar... Must try.. They have nice cakes and pastries... And also patices
Rahul N.
This is a century old bakery. We used to frequent this place during college breaks for patties and cold drinks. They have decent varieties of biscuits and cakes as well. They seem to be more of a convenience store nowadays rather than just bakery.
Prasanna Baruah
Sheikh brothers... This place has been around for over a 125 years and in order to last this long you need to love what you do and they are perhaps one of the best in the field.. I myself have been been visiting this place for the last 8 years and the only thing which has changed are the prices... The chicken paties and the roasted chicken (highly recommended) takes me back to my school days when I used to relish ever bite of it after a long hard day of school and tuitions..
P.S:- its perhaps one of those places you have to visit in guwahati...
Saumyadeep Bhattacharjee
One of the oldest bakeries in the city, Sheikh Brothers is known best for its cakes and biscuits.. It was once the No.1 bakery in Guwahati, however the taste and quality has come down over time. One should try it at least once.
Soumi Sarkar
Highly recommend for you to visit this place to have freshly baked soft pastries that are simply delicious!! We had chicken hot dog along with vanilla and chocolate pastries.. Arunabha Banerjee

The "Shaikh Brothers" is perhaps one of the oldest bakery in the city. They offer wide range of cakes & pastries. They have also introduced eggless cakes to their current inventory. The prices are affordable and quality of food is about average. If you are in panbazar area, this place can be the one stop destination for your pastry needs. The nostalgic feeling of being in old Guwahati is a BONUS.

Memories attached to this place during my college days even drags me today whenever I find myself in Panbazar... Me and my mates used to have our mid day meal in this very place... The biscuits, cakes, pastries, rolls, sandwiches and the patties prepared with such perfection had a dual role of watering the taste buds and satisfying our starving tummies... A recent visit to this place made me realise that though they have added some new variety but they have compromised a bit in their known quality... Having said that it still serves some good patties and pastries in the city at a reasonable price..
Must have the CRISPY AND SOFT CHICKEN PATTIES!!!

The chances of almost every kid who grew up in the nineties in Guwahati having tasted a slice of birthday cake coming from the ovens of Shaikh Brothers is very high which is why I am shell shocked to see this place get such low ratings. As far as the dropping of quality is concerned, I would like to say that quality is still the same. Don't read me wrong, this place is stuck in a time wrap and have failed to go for a much needed upgrade, especially after the arrival of the multi national joints and new age bakeries in Guwahati. However I have never experienced any stale product being catered and I doubt they need to as this place still witnesses huge footfall during lunch hours owing to the college goers and employees from the nearby colleges and offices.
Definitely the products are different and is a reminder of the era gone by, but are worth giving a shot. The Cream Cakes (yes there is some cake named so) haven't change a bit and I go there for those whenever I get a chance to cherish the nostalgia. The pizzas (changed from the original Shaikh version) and the hotdogs are surely not what pizzas and hotdogs are supposed to be but who cares as long as it tastes good, is filling enough and sold at rock bottom prices?
Its agreed that Shaikh Brothers is no longer the jewel in the crown and one needs to be associated with their history in some way to still stay loyal, I would not dare to say that the Shaikh Brothers is a bakery to be written off so easily.
Anjan Goswami
My favorite bakery in Guwahati. I love their cakes and their biscuits just melt in your mouth. Though this place has lost its shine recently its quality is and always was the best. The new fast food joint next door is also pretty good. Do try the different varieties of the piece cakes they have, they make a nice compliment to the afternoon tea.
Rohan.nawaz21
One of d most oldest bakery in guwahati ....established in 1885 ...d chicken roast is my favorite n d chicken burger too....I think one should check dis shop atleast once...
Abhinav Acharya
Oldest bakery in town. Although has lost the shine these days, but... some good fast food, iconic status and students hangouts nearby never leave the bakery without customers
Jo Heb
A landmark and the iconic bakery of whole assam which is older than lots & lots people living in ghy. The patties, pastries, biscuits, loafs....all d stuffs are of a different class, stands tall today also amongst so many of competitors.
The most popular Bakery of Assam, which lost it's glory a bit but still has a lot of faithful customers.
Argha Chowdhury
The brothers know the term ' Baking ' very well... If you are in Pan bazaar, go get a bite
Zuber Syed Ahmed
Great brand image as of now but is fast deminishing. Immediate refresh of its menu and upgradation of its marketing might come as a saviour else will dieout very soon.
Sidhartha Dutta
An old heritage of Guwahati right now under a life support. Except the Bread which is still trying to cling to its illustrious past the other items are just a eye wash . Owing to its wonderful location and enormous varieties of food stuff its still the local favorite but for old timers like us we know that Shaikh brothers has lost its old glory. The Pizza is another variant of the bread which can be proved once someone tries it out at shaikh. brothers. The Stuffed items be it chicken burger or rolls are served cold and we cannot make out whether it is one day old or fresh. Although it is still highly popular joint owing to the cheap prices but the quality is not up to the mark . Even the hand cart which moves around carrying Shaik brothers bread and cakes need a coat of paint. The only plus point is that the owners never crib about change. I sincerely wish that some day shaikh brother would regain its lost glory in terms of quality .

Shaikh Brothers ( SB ) 'was' ( sadly ) the iconic Bakery of Guwahati. If you had a birthday to celebrate, this was the place from where the cake used to come. They made some of the best cakes at that time. When i was a kid,all my birthday cakes used to come from here, with designs ranging from a guitar to a Mickey Mouse to what not. But alas, they could not keep up the standards which they themselves had set.

SB is located on the H.B.Road in Panbazaar area & for a newcomer, if you ask anyone in Panbazaar, they will point out the directions to it.By the way, it is located on the left side if you are going towards Cotton College & has a quite grand entrance when you consider that it is a bakery.

They have all kinds of cakes like the Plain cake, Fruit Cake, their exclusive Bournvita Cake ( aka Chocolate Cake), all flavors of Pastries. They also have baked biscuits, of which you can taste a sample from the tray that they keep in the order counter. Their Patties are ok. I personally would recommend to order their Plain Cake ( i usually order it in bulk for taking it home). Also they have a utility store selling some cosmetic brands in the same area.

I really request the owners to pull up their socks as much better bakeries have now come up in this city. The fond memories of days bygone have really contributed to the 3 stars that i have given in my review. :'-(

Shaikh Brothers is the oldest bakery (over a 100 years old) in Guwahati. My grandmother makes it a point to bring over the Hot Dogs, Pizza and patties whenever she comes to visit our home. Each piece of food is generally VERY filing and the day crowd mostly include students from Cotton College. The cakes and pastries are not very good. The food is not really good but if you're a student in the Panbazar area and looking for a quick and filling bite before tutions start, then this is definitely the place for you.

It's predominantly a bakery. I don't know what's it doing here!! But still it's a place that every person in guwahati knows I suppose. It's a landmark. They had once been the most popular Bakery in the whole of Assam. Lost it's glory a bit but still has a lot of faithful customers.
Satyajit Deb
