Review Chang Mai - Guwahati

Ashlesha Manta
They have a good ambience and the staff is great. Food is above average. Some of the dishes might not be as great but they try their best to keep it authentic so that's nice. I would recommend having their tom yum soup. Their rice paper rolls are also pretty authentic, so is there Thai green papaya salad. I would recommend this place to someone wanting to try Thai food in Guwahati.

Entering this restaurant was an experience in itself and I was immediately blown away by the spectacular interiors! Such a beautiful place. Everything, from the wall paintings, to the vases and statues, was just perfect. An ambience truly befitting for an asian restaurant. Food was also pretty delicious. We had uramaki sushi, chicken rendang curry, pork satay and chicken pad thai noodles. The sushi was my favorite, while the other items were good too. The rendang curry tasted like something I had never experienced before! Service was good. The staff were quite polite and courteous. There is a smoking area outside. Overall, I had an awesome experience.

I regularly visit this restaurant and never ever got disappointed. If someone is really fond of Thai, Korean, Indonesian and Japanese food - this is one of the best destination in Guwahati.

Visited this place recently, a complete pan asian restaurant Ordered: Kimbap (Chicken) ; Fried Rice Platter (Nasi Gorrang) served with skewered and grilled meat (Satay), sunny side up egg and shrimp flavoured chips : Steam Opened Dumplings (Khanom Jeeb) Taste: The kimbap was the best for me (the filling inside of chicken, egg, mushroom, veggies) was just on point and so was the sides ; 2nd the dumplings (the appropriate amount of filling inside and so savory) ; The fried rice platter (loved the skewers, egg and chips even the rice was great, but found a strong dried fish smell in it even in the sauce being served along with it, so that was bit of an issue for me, but it tasted good if you leave aside the smell) Ambience: Just as it should be, very calm and the vibe of it, really liked it Staffs: Very well mannered Price: On the higher side (but compared to other pan asian restro, it is less) Overall, I had a very good time with delish dishes, that I got to try for the first time (kimbap). Please visit this place if you are interested in this cuisine and have your own share of experience.

Loved the experience, although we went almost at the closing time, we were welcomed with courtesy. Food menu on the customised Tab device helps decide what to order , if you’ve less idea of Asian cuisines like me.

It's a great place with some cool ambience for different kinds of some asian food however the prices are a bit high for the quantity of food given plus the prices are not mentioned on the digital menu written so that's a thing keep in mind!

I loved the food. It was quite authentic and the portions were also big. They also offered us complimentary jasmine tea. The ambience and atmosphere was very good. The service was also really impressive. Definitely worth a visit. Will be visiting again!

I've always wanted to visit this place and see for myself what the hype was about. I finally got to go today, and honestly they delivered everything they said they would. The place really screamed fine dining with the ambience, the setting, the mood, lighting everything was just perfect. The food was decadent. We ordered the pho, gyoza and nasi goreng. As I've never been to any f the places I cannot say if it was authentic but I can say that it was damn near the original taste. And I'm saying it because the nasi goreng had a hint of shrimp paste, and the sateys were drenched with peanut sauce. The pho was really refreshing and the sauces were also not that spicy. It was a really fine experience. Would recommend and also would like to visit again. The hospitality was good and the prices were actually really affordable. I thought that it would cost me a fortune but I was mistaken and considering it was a fine dining the prices were actually really good.

The food was incredible and extremely flavourful, their menu is vast and the food has the authentic asian flavour that one can expect. The aesthetics of the place is immaculate! It's so beautiful and the lights are dim and the place is cosy. Even their washroom is pretty. It's truly an amazing fine dining experience with extremely delicious asian cuisine. Loved the sushi ( uramaki), Thai barbeque chicken, pho and lemongrass chicken so much. The quantity of the satay can be improved and the overall quantity can be improved as the prices are expensive :)

I love this place ... the food is decent .. they are the best in the city when it comes to South East and East Asian food .. the tempura is lovely .. the noodle bowls are great.. loved the thai curry and bibimbap ! Wish they could have a more elaborate drinks menu

A great place with nice polite and professional staff. Service is quick and prompt. Food we ordered was Mee Goreng. It was good. Quantity was also sufficient for two. Calm Ambience. Looking forward to visit again.

Went here and tried a couple of their dishes. Their sushi is great, and I really loved it! Also tried their som tam salad, the dressing of which I didn't find all that authentic. Their pad Thai was good, but their rendang wasn't authentic again.
A great place in Guwahati if you're looking for a variety of Asian food, especially different cuisines, and while the food might not be authentic at all times, it's a good attempt all the same.

Follow @cravingmomoss on Instagram for more food reviews!

The maki sushi was very bad. It had a sour taste to it. Overall good ambience but food taste needs to be improved. Quanity is also very less in comparison to order restaurants.

Well, I was there last Sunday & it was my first visit to Changmai's. I must say, I loved the Japanese sushi rolls, Maki. And the Thai main courses we had for lunch, it was so fulfilling. We had Kaeng Phet, that is pork in Thai Red curry paste & Khao Phad Sapparot (pineapple fried rice). The staff was very professional and very humble.

Finally i got 2 taste a true pan of asian food. I tried sushi n omurice.. japanese food. I loved it. The ambience so beautiful and cozy. I loved the interior. The service was so good. Gonna visit again 🤗

I loved the ambience. The service is superb. A perfect dinner place for pan Asian cuisine. The dimsums and the bibimbap was my favourite there. Would love to go try other dishes too.

Changmai is a newcomer in Guwahati's culinary scene. It is a Pan Asian restaurant serving Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, among many.

Though the place is easy to miss, the overall experience calls for more and more.

The food is simply amazing with authentic dishes offered from various cuisines. The service is top-notch and so is the ambience.

It serves amazing food at affordable rates. Believe me you will definitely love this place if you love Asian food.

Pro tip - Do try their sushis. They serve many variations and if you have never tried sushi this is the place to start.

Had Maki (chicken) and Urumaki (prawn) Sushi today. The Sushi isn't overpriced like the other restaurants. It was really very amazing and value for money 💖💖 We also ordered Mojito. It was great too. It is a must visit restaurant for the Asian food lovers.
Richa Goswami
The place is amazing. We ordered the thai green curry which was amazing. For desserts we ordered the mango sticky rice which was okay. Overall a good place for fine dining.
Tina_assam
Awesome and cosily done interiors! The service is top-notch; the reason why I would love to keep coming back here. On my first visit, I couldn't manage to sit by as they don't serve from 3 to 7 in the evening. However this thine around, I clicked my time accordingly. Coming to the food, it was just awesome: ordered mee goreng with a iced blast, both of which tasted superb. A thumbs up for the place. A 4.5 star so that the folks put in continuous endeavour to serve the hungry souls better!

I'm a vegetarian and always end up at a dead end when I eat out . Changmai offers a wide variety and they are soooo delicious. I loved the Thai bbq panzer and the flat noodles with garlic flavour. The desert was light and tasty. Had a great time. Thank you
Arabinda Malakar
One of most memorable experience that fine dining has to offer around town. A fresh new treat for the goodies soul.
We ate the uramaki for the appatizers ,and it was pleasing to know that all the main courses comes with complimentary rice and their dessert was smoothing to the palate .can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu .

The service is fantastic! This is one of the many reasons why i would like to keep going to this place.
Food is scrumptious though there is room for betterment.
The spring rolls were a tad bit oily. The flavor of the filling was spot on but the oily lingered after that.
The pho was delicately balanced though i had to adjust the seasoning.
The sui mais had a very soft filling. But the outer layer was almost torn by the time it was served onto the plates.
The rice paper rolls were very fresh but it needed more of the protein in it.
I loved the bibimbap however The quantity of rice was way too much.
The dessert was okay. It wasn’t spectacular as the savory items were.
This was more than enough food for 3 people. Moderately priced. And super fast service.

Food is awesome and the presentation and ambience is very pleasant!!! The staff is nice and well dressed! I loved the nasi goreng!!! You can get some got thai food here

The Mee Goreng was pretty disappointing. It tasted nothing different than roadside chowmein. Pork was uncooked. Was expecting better. Sadly a bad experience.

You get the best korean food here.... Bibimbap was yummy.... Dumplings were very soft and tasty... The ambience is Fine .... Its affordable too

Good ambience and service. Food could have been slightly better. The Mee Goreng and Pork Satay were average in terms of taste. The Yang Moo wasn't available which was a let down. The Bibimbap pork was commendable.

I would happily rate this place a 4.5 or maybe even a 4.8. It's so hard to find a place that serves pan Asian food the right way- unadulterated and full of flavours. This is the place to be if you have a predilection (a strong one) for pan Asian food, then this is just the right spot for you. I commend the restaurant for having stayed as close to true as possible to authentic Asian food without messing around with the flavours. One would find the most popular entities of Thai, Vietnamese,Korean, Japanese, Malay and Indonesian cuisine here. I am so glad that they skipped out Chinese, because it's been a while since Chinese food (especially the kind you find in Guwahati) has become so cliched and so mundane. This is the just the right place to stir things up a bit. The staff and hospitality was on point as well, because they were well aware of their menu and could guide you very well with your order. You don't find that even in the best of high end restaurants and for a themed restaurant to thrive it's essential that you have a knowledgeable staff! Now I tried both Korean and Thai food. I tried their coveted Bibimbap and wasn't it delicious! I haven't been to Korea and only knew about Bibimbap through TV shows and food magazines so I didn't really know what to expect. But when it arrived, it was a medley of wonderful flavors. The namul (sauteed vegetables) and the sprouts added the right amount of freshness to it and the pork meat was juicy and flavorful and the fermented dipping sauces were to die for, strong on their own but tasted amazing when got stirred together with everything else. My only complaint is that it could have used a little less rice and more meat (but that's just my preference). Among the other Korean dish, we went for galbi. Now galbi's supposed to be made of meat, so going for the vegetarian option would of course not seem as much delightful. Well there was nothing extraordinary about this dish and it was a tad too salty for me, however it wasn't all that bad either, definitely goes well with plain rice which mellows it down.
Among the Thai dishes I had the Yang Moo-which is grilled pork. The pork was tender and had just the right amount of fat and was all seasoned and flavorful. It however did lack that extra oomph of flavor but nevertheless I devoured it down to my heart's content. The other Thai dish(which was in the mains) was the Place Rad Prik which was the only item made with fish on the menu. Now I don't normally go for fish but I was with my mom and she was craving for some fish and rice- and this is the closest to that we could find. Now the sauce was absolutely delightful, it was fragrant, spicy with just the right amount of sweetness. They served it with sticky rice and two big pieces of fish. Now the fish however, was lacking flavor, the flavors of the sauce just couldn't get inside the flesh due to which the fish on it's own was lacking both seasoning and flavor. Plus, (and I quote my mom) that fresh river fish would have done the dish more justice.
Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience and I would go back again to try out more food. Cheers!

This place after I have been there is exactly the way it is described in the reviews. Beautifully decorated, lavish interiors and lip smacking dishes. As the name suggests, it is a Pan Asian Restaurant which serves Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Korean, Malay and Indonesian cuisines. The food quality is too scrumptious however, it's a bit on the higher side. The hospitality of the staff is welcoming and they guided us well through all the dishes before we ordered. Only thing is it takes a bit amount of time in placing the orders.
Antara Bordoloi
The interiors and ambience was great. However, the food was not so good. I tried uramaki, tuna maki and the salmond sushi, it was under-seasoned, not enjoyable and overall below average. The rest of the menu may be good as I have heard good reviews from people, but its definetely not a sushi place.

Nice decor. Great warmly friendly staff.
Food variety 5/5
The Banh Pho Chicken soup was excellent.
The starter was Yang Hmu Pork (sliced, lean) was excellent. The hot sauce tasted wonderful.
Mee Goreng Chicken was not up to the mark. Laced with eggs it had the 'funny' eggy smell which actually put me off.
The Pork gravy item, Kartik Prik Thai Pork was nicely flavoured. But the pork was chewy and not soft.
Would advice the team to look at the quality of meat and also cook properly.

Visited this beautiful asian themed restaurant serving variety of delicious asian cuisines. The interior was very classy. The hospitality of the staff was very pleasant. They have a wide range of Thai,Indonesian/vietnamese,japanese/korean cuisines to select from.As starter we ordered Kai Yang(grilled chicken),Yang Hmu Pork(grilled pork),Satay Chicken,Tempura Vegetable,Khanon Jeeb Pork(Dumplings). Each and every item was properly cooked and was also a treat to the eyes. Then for the main course we had Omurice Chicken (basically chicken fried rice),Bibimbap pork and chicken which was a bowl of chicken and pork pieces served with rice, shredded zucchini, carrot, boiled mushrooms and a sunny side up egg on the top. Also ordered Xoi ga(sticky rice served with chicken strips) and Mee Goreng Chicken which is spicy fried noodles. The main course items can however serve two people from a single bowl. I totally had a great experience with all the food items and i would surely recommend this asian restaurant to all the crazy foodies out there.Go and give it a try people, you won't regret.A big thumbs up to the whole team of Changmai👍You guys are doing well.Keep doing great.Hope to visit again.Best wishes😊

Bibimpap is great and enough for two people, great Uramaki. Nasi Goreng is a must try. One of the best staff I've found in any restaurant in Guwahati.

A very different experience to be here. Different flavors, quality ingredients and extremely hospitable staff makes it a very refreshing place to have a fine meal here. The menu here is presented on a tablet and one needs to select items according to the country it belongs to and read about the item in brief as well as see the picture. However, this can be a little complicated for someone who is not familiar with the dishes. Although the staff would be there anytime to help one out. Food was served real fast but taste wise it is very subjective as it is really different. We had ordered chicken yang for the starters, chicken miso and chicken laksha for the soup, Bibimbap, Mee Goreng and Ga Nuong for the main course. Mee Goreng and Ga Nuong was really flavorful but didn't quite like Bibimbap as it had a very pungent flavor. For the dessert, we had ordered a dish of water chestnut (forgot the exact name) but it was delicious. Beautiful interiors will truly mesmerize you. Many congratulations to the team for coming up with a new concept and good wishes for the coming days.

The place has great ambience, and the ultra-modern menu style is great too. We ordered a mix of Vietnamese, Japanese and Thai food in soups, main course and salads. The soup was great. Natural and refreshing. The main course, perhaps, is a bit too authentic to suit our palates, but that is a great sign. Most of restaurants in Guwahati twist tastes to suit our buds, but authenticity lacks in even the high places. Chang Mai is a refreshing change to that trend. Hope the place really catches on. I will certainly go back.

Recently opened near my place. Was curious about this new restaurant. So decided to visit and try it's delicasies. When we entered and saw the interior and sitting arrangements it's just 5star restaurant. Awesome interior. It feels like you have entered some Southeast Asian restaurant. The girls invited us with gratitude and took us to our table. The staffs are so polite and well mannered. The gave their tab for checking the menu. Which makes it's more premium. The menu consists of Japanese and Korean Segment, Thai, Malay, Dimsums, Desserts and mocktails and some more. We had ordered Mee Goreng and Mi Quang. Which was really delicious. Surely waiting for my next visit to taste their Sushi and Bibimbam. Worth giving them 5star rating. They deserve even more.

Keep going Changmai. My best wishes 👍👍👍👍

I am so happy that I happened to discover this place and ordered dumplings. I am mesmerized ❤️ I am so going to recommend this to every momo lover. Soft and juicy and so so very savoury these were. In love with these 🤤
This place opened like a month ago and have many types of Asian Dishes; Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. Expecting to see a lot more dishes the next time. The ambiance and hospitality is lovely. 😊
I also had Bibimbap. This bowl full of food, perfect for one person, perfect for me. It includes Sticky Rice, Meat, Bean Sprouts, Cucumber, Spinach, Mushrooms, Carrots, and the Sunny Side up on top (I might miss a ingredient or two) served with Sweet Sauce and Kimchi. I ate it all, trust me! 😋
And if you're a spice lover, I'd recommend you to go for Spicy. I chose the medium spice but I did not find it spicy at all. For others, you can go for mild or medium spice. 🌶️

I really enjoyed my meal and the hospitality here.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the Food
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the Hospitality
⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the Ambiance
⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the Neatness
As I was wondering why the menu was not displayed here, my curiosity to visit this place grew more. So I finally visited this place today.
Their menus are actually installed in tablets where you can view what you are going to order as well as the presentation and the level of spiciness.
When it comes to sushi, their prices are quite pocket friendly compared to other restaurants serving sushi. We had maki roll, uramaki and nigiri.
The uramaki prawn tempura was the best.
For main course we tried Vietnamese and Thai dishes which was quite tasty.
And Tab Tim Krob as desert which had coconut flavor.
The ambience is so peaceful with Oriental music. Service was excellent with well behaved staffs.
I'm definitely going back again to have sushi again and try the rest of the dishes. And I'm surely gonna recommend my friends.

Amazing place with lovely interiors. Warmly welcomed by the host and the staff . They were quite helpful in selecting the menu. We were even served some complimentary items..the names of which escapes me now. Food is fabulous and extremely delicious. The non-alcoholic wine was great too. Definitely worth visiting again and again!

Opened only 2 months back, Chang Mai is Amazing. I never thought I'd get to taste pure and authentic Asian cuisine in Guwahati, but Chang Mai does every bit of justice to my cravings. Serving authentic, Korean, Viatnamese, Japanese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai cuisine , they have won my heart.
.
And, the menu is electronic, so couldn't upload it.

It's a pure asian restaurant.ambience is very nice and calm.all the staff wear Thai traditional dress which enhance the experience.we ordered thai.soup was ok.i dnt like mushroom so others may like the soup. But the Kai yang( brbq chicken) was superb. The best part is that the staff knows to explain dishes very well.so you will not get confused looking at the menu..must visit

I am still reeling from that amazing meal at Chang Mai. I never thought Guwahati would get such a stunning South East Asian restaurant and with so many cuisines under one roof which looks beautiful too.

The place is adorned with Asian artifacts and decorative pieces. The servers are dressed in Asian attire and the aromas and music too give the impression of a terrific Asian restaurant.

The menu is as expansive as it can get covering Thai,Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese,Malay food

We tried dishes from all of the above and every dish that we ordered was lip smacking and so very fresh
I can't remember all,but some of them :
-Chicken Yang (Thai BBQ)
-Larb
-Veg Shumai
-Vietnamese Spring Rolls (outstanding)
-Rendang Curry (Too good for spice lovers)
-Pad Krapow (the basil flavor was too good)
-Som Tam Salad : this I did not like. They put long beans and tomatoes in it. And the salad was not fresh enough
-Laksa : though the taste was good, the texture was average
-Veg Sushi Platter : excellent. Infact much better than the ones I have eaten outside our city. The veg tempura roll was brilliant and even the avocado cream cheese
-Tom Kha : not too heavy. Decent flavors

The best part was that the servers knew every dish and also the meat used was very good quality. I really hope they maintain themselves at this level.
Even the desserts were beautiful.

Chang Mai is a new restaurant that serves authentic pan-asian(japanese, korean, thai, vietnamese, indonesian) cusine, situated in uzaanbazar.
It's probably as authentic as you can get with Asian food. The presentation, ingredients and quality is really top - notch.
It might be little awkward for people who are accustomed with Indian version of Chinese cusine!
The menu is shown in a tablet and you can browse through the various items according to various country of origin ( Thailand, Vietnam etc) and read about the item in brief and as well see the pictures of the item.
However I felt that they should have elaborated little more regarding the food items.
We tried many items like uramaki prawns sushi, mi quang, larb Moo, blast on ice, carribean mango shake.
Food was quite delicious and presentation was awesome.
Costs are moderately expensive.
Service was very good. Staffs were very helpful and charming.
Ambience is superb....with nice lightings and peaceful instrumental music.
(Only negative point which I found was they charged ₹50 for a packaged water bottle whose MRP is ₹20.)
But, overall....a very good experience..😀
Summary: The only place in Guwahati that serves pan-Asian delicacies (no, not Chindian)

Ambiance 5/5
Soothing, calm and tastefully done. Lighting is mellow. The ambiance is perfect for a nice, cosy meal.

Service and hygiene 3/5
Overall the dishes, tableware and napkins are clean. I did not check the loo. Staff are attentive; but they can improve upon being more proactive, especially in describing the menu items, as majority do not understand what each dish constitutes and tastes like. Serving cuisine that Guwahati folks are not familiar with, needs that extra attention from staff in walking through the menu. I ordered lemon juice; but was not served and was billed, which was later adjusted - small details that need to be improved upon.

Food 4/5
We ordered Mi Quang, Bibimbap, Pad Thai and Khanom Jeeb (momo) - all chicken. Mi Quang comes with prawns. The dishes were all authentic, which means there is a distinct fish sauce smell (many don’t like it). Taste-wise it is subjective - people familiar with Indianised Chinese might not like it. But the bottom line is, if you are looking for authentic Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Indonesian and Thai food, this is THE place to visit. In fact, I haven’t visited any other place in India that has such a spread of different pan Asian spread. Kudos to Changmai for that. You get susi too. I didn’t try because I have a mental block of eating seafood near the ocean :)

Value for money 5/5
Yes! For such amazing cuisine, the price is totally justified and this is the second reason which will differentiate Changmai. First being the unique food spread.

Verdict - Highly recommended! I will definitely visit again

And good luck Team Changmai!

Chang Mai for me is a dream come true - a restaurant serving some really good Pan Asian food in Guwahati! As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was impressed with the decor. The space isn’t that big, but the interiors are everything. The waiting staff is super courteous- I would give them 5 stars. The menu is not on paper, they handed us out tablets, where the dishes were listed with detailed explanations. We were served a welcome drink- a blue mojito, which was yum along with the sugared peanuts served on the side. We placed an order of Uramaki, Sui Mai dumplings and Pork Thai green curry.

The food arrived pretty fast and to say the least, was impeccable. The dumplings were ultra juicy and the sushi was out of the world. My personal favourite though was the Pork Thai green curry that is served with white rice. Tender boneless pieces of pork in the rich Thai green gravy is the kind of soul food you would want on a Sunday. I couldn’t wait to take any pictures of any food and had to dig in. Chang Mai, you are my current favourite. I CANNOT wait to be back. Please continue being this good.

I don't remember when was the last time I wanted to order almost everything from the menu. And it's all because of the awesome dishes they were offering. And I could not stop going through the menu till my food arrived.

True to their Pan Asian theme, Chang Mai's menu has dishes from Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Combodia and Japan. But if you're expecting to eat common items like Chicken Manchurian and fried rice, you'll be disappointed by this menu. But you can choose from Pho to Mi Quang, Bibimbab to Gado Gado and much more. So take your time, pick your dish and wait for the masterpiece to arrive....

For starters we had Har Gow (Prawn dumplings), Bahn Xep (fried pork dumplings). They hot and fresh and went very well with the chili oil. That chili oil was indeed very addictive.

Next we tried some Miso soup. The fragrance and taste of miso wasn't overpowering and soup got a good texture from the the tofu and nori.

For main course we shared a bowl of Bibimbab, a bowl of Mi Quang (Vietnamese noodle dish) and a plate of Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was the star among the three dishes. I am definitely getting a plate again. MI Quang and bibimbab tasted great too but I wish the rice in the bibimbab were a bit more moist. Overall all the dishes we tried were really delicious.

The portion size are good and enough for a hungry afternoon. However since the dishes are native to other cultures some flavours may not be suitable for every taste buds. There comes the helpful waitresses who can help you choose the right dish for you.

The service is perfect and waiting period was not too long. As you await for your meal to arrive enjoy the beautiful decor, scroll through the menu (menu comes on a tab) or taste the complementry starter and drinks.

Finally the price. With starters around 250 INR, main Course around 350 INR and drinks around 100 INR, this place is not for an budget meal. However considering the meal options and quality of food it is still a very good deal.

With Beautiful ambience, yummy food and great service Chang Mai is definitely a fine dine experience. I am going back soon and I already know what I want to try next!!!
