Review Parampara Restaurant - Guwahati

Went here for the food and were not disappointed. Had the mutton and chicken thali and it was delicious. Simple, homely and not too heavy on the pocket. The staff was very accommodating and the toilet was clean.

I was looking for an authentic Assamese restaurant and our guide suggested this restaurant. I was planning to go for the Parampara thali however I have pigeons as pets and can't think of eating them so I avoided that. I took the second option, non veg thali and it's awesome. It was less oily and felt very healthy yet tasty. Their ambiance is also nice. It's a very good option for a family lunch or dinner.

Me and my family went for lunch there. One of the places in Guwahati to get authentic Assamese food.

This is one of the places that ages like fine wine. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and the charm, food quality as well as the courteous staff never fail to impress me. If you're visiting the North East, this place is should be a must in your go to list.

Simply awesome.. It's a complete experience, the way they treat you, guide you for the right food choice and above all the authentic taste.. it's just fabulous. Any food enthusiastic shouldn't miss this place at any cost. Would love hop in again once in Guwahati. Keep it up, bid thumbs up 👍👍

Loved the ambience and the service. Lovely Assamese songs in the background. We got the parampara thali and it had duck meat, mutton, fish of 2 varieties, kheer, dal, pitika(aloo), bamboo, and more cooked in mustard oil. We paid rs. 650 for this and was worth it. We recommend going here.

We were visiting from Scotland and I need gluten free food. Were looking for breakfast and stumbled onto the aptly named paradise. The atmosphere was perfectly calm amongst the bustle of Guwahati. The service was impeccable and the amount of food was great. Had the vegetable thali and it was delicious. Only one thing in the platter I didn't try, though we think it was made of chickpea and not wheat. Highly recommend anyone looking for delicious food eat here. We went back and had lunch the next day. If i am ever in Guwahati again I will eat here!

One of the oldest and best restaurants serving authentic Assamese thalis. Whenever I am in town I make it a point to visit and relish their amazing food. Decor wise it’s simple and more authentic Assamese touches can be added to further enhance the feels.

Went visited this place with our entire joint family. It was a thali party. Since we were 20 of us, the service took a while. Each of us got the classic Assamese thali. The thali had every common household spread including fish and Khar. All of them suited our taste buds, stomach and was very satisfying. I hope they have upheld the same quality after 2021. If yes, we will visit again.

This was highly recommended for authentic Assamese cuisine and I will now recommend it to those who read. I tried Bamboo chicken and chicken masala with rice and dal. All dishes were prepared nicely. The service was good, despite the delay. The hotel has big tables for families and friends. Also the regular four seaters. They have left the ground floor and have the restaurant on the first floor. I could not understand the reason for making people climb one floor when they have the ground floor with them. But the food and the service was worth it! I will certainly visit there in my next visit to Guwahati.

Awesome food. Each humble looking dish was full of flavor. Waiters were very polite and explained the new dishes too. A finger bowl post meal would be a welcome addition.

Food quality was good. Overall ambiance is fine. Restaurant having lot of space. You can heard songs of Bhupen Hazarika anytime. Situated in the heart of the city and just near to road. One thing we don't like is the price. Price is so costlier, I think one of the costliest mid level Restaurant in Guwahati.

Visited this Restaurant after a long time due to Lockdown with a great expectation but after dinning we r really disappointed . First of all they used disposable dishes which is looking very poor, secondly quantity of d food is very less and d quality is also not up to the mark. Now it is high time that management should look after all this issues otherwise paradise is going to loose his sharm & reputation

Bad Idea to visit this place. May be it was the first day of restaurant opening after prolonged lockdown in Guwahati but the customer service was aweful. So slow. Took them 40 min to serve us our meals. All plastic disposable to eat food in, half the charm of eating was gone. Assamese thali was very very average. Bamboo chicken was good.
Best for Assamese thali. If you want to have authentic Assamese thali, it is the best place. One of the oldest hotel in Guwahati. I've been to this place since I was a kid. I love the fish tenga and the aloo pitika.

Total cheating compared to price

We ordered 2 thalis, 4 Puris n mix veg. It took them ages to serve the puri n veggies so much do that my son entered the kitchen to check. Thankfully the food was good.

Great experience overall and would highly recommend this place for someone who wants to try Assamese thali

The waiter couldn’t be bothered to serve us the roti with the chicken, on time. Food was not hot and service was even less than mediocre. He didn’t seem interested in his job. Place is overrated!

Rates are very much high. I had chinese but i suggest to decrease the rates regarding few of the dishes. Food was good anyway. I had veg fried rice and crispy chilli chicken, taste was very good and presentation was good too 🌹 but the prices of the chinese dishes was high. Thats all.

When I was in Guwahati and ask anyone about local food, most of the people suggested Paradise (more suggestions online) so I arrived with very high expectations.
Location:Easy to find,on a main road in silkpuri,I arrived with cab so didn't need to find parking.

Ambience: Casual ambience with lots of tables. The time I visited was Saturday evening around 7 om so expected to be crowded but found it empty,I was the only customer, strange, didn't expected this.

Service:This is the field where they disappoint more, when I enter the restaurant on ground floor there were no one to greet, there were some table there and a stairs going up,not finding anyone I went up and even there no one was, when I entered the dinning area one staff came from kitchen.
As all restaurant was empty choose a table and sit,I was interested in Thali, the staff was not having idea about food serve in thali, didn't have some basic idea.

Food:I ordered a mutton thali,it was just ok,during my 15 days stay in Assam had some better meal in some unknown places.

If you are searching for proper Assamese delicacies while in Guwahati, then you must visit Paradise. We had Parampara thaali (served on bell metal)and Vyanjan thaali (served on Steel plate) which had variety of items in it. The best item from the thaali is the Steamed fish and duck curry tastes really good.
Please find the attached pictures of food and ambiance.

Assamese cuisine favour fermentation and drying products as forms of preservation. Assamese cuisine is characterized my minimal use of spices, little cooking, and very strong flavours arising due to use of exotic fruits and vegetables. Assamese cuisine is a bit different than the rest of India but it’s tastes good and rich nevertheless. Parampara Paradise or simply Paradise Restaurant brings out the best of Assamese cuisine and serves it to the city of Guwahati. Situated in Maniram Dewan Road, Silpukhuri, Paradise is indeed a paradise for all the food lovers of not only Guwahati but people from all over Assam.
Paradise restaurant is one of the most iconic and oldest restaurants in Guwahati. It has been a hub of Assamese cuisine since 1984. This place is credited for creating a cult following of the Assamese cuisine. You can choose from a wide selection and versatile menu. Duck, chicken and mutton are a must in every Assamese cuisine. This restaurant doesn’t disappoint with its huge variety of non vegetarian dishes. The menu itself looks pleasing owing to the dishes written in the Assamese language alongside English. The waiters welcome you with a warm smile and greet you namaskar in their traditional way. They are dressed in their traditional attire and the atmosphere is warm and peaceful. The interior of the place is very humble and soothing. The walls are adorned with the traditional Assamese showpieces like the japi, a hat made with bamboo and decorated. Various drawings portraying the Assamese lifestyle on the walls takes the feel of the restaurant to a top-notch experience. The furniture is simple but with a traditional hint in them.
Coming to the dishes, a safe and enjoyable introduction to the Assamese cuisine would be to start with the Vyanjan thali. It consists of steamed rice teamed up with khar (vegetable preparation with soda bicarbonate), dal, mashed potatoes, chicken curry, fish tenga, kahudi, kharoli, khorisa, mahor guri, payas/curd. The parampara thali is for the adventurous heart as this consists of pigeon or duck curry. The khar is a signature preparation made with the key ingredient, khar. Water is filtered through the ashes of the sun-dried skin of banana producing Khar. There is a strong flavour and aroma of mustard in every dish since it is the signature of Assamese cuisine. The cooking medium is mustard oil. The subtly flavoured fish tenga is a beloved of the crowd. It has a nice tangy taste to it. If you are at Paradise, you got to try their signature dishes. Gooseberry soup has its own fan following. Fish bamboo hollow is a traditional dish in which fish is cooked is a hollow bamboo. The fish gets a nice bamboo aroma and taste to it. Bhut jolokia or ghost pepper is the hottest chilli pepper in the world. It is found in North East India. The chicken cooked with bhut jolokia is a must try to experience the spicy twist to chicken. The restaurant serves a large number of traditional specialities. Fish in banana leaf is the all time crowd favourite.
Desserts are a must to give a nice climax to the food experience. Apsoch- a Paradise signature sweet dish is the favourite dessert in this restaurant. It is a dish you must try before leaving the place. You also get to choose some nice Assamese beverage. Belor Sorbot is a must try. Kordoi sorbot, pudina sorbot and gul nemur sorbot are also equally loved.
The food is priced a bit on the higher side. But the exotic taste and rich culinary skills on the platter makes the price a true value for the money. If you don’t mind spending a bit more and want to have an experience of the rich Assamese cuisine, Parampara Paradise restaurant is a must visit for your next Guwahati trip. The warmth in hospitality and savoury flavours of the dishes will compel you to visit this place again and again.

Ever feel like having an Assamese Thali then this is the right place for it. Food is delicious and the quantity is good. You will just keep eating. plenty of variety in the menu aswell, and so many varieties in the non veg thali too. Try the food and guaranteed you will not regret.

My first restaurant experience in Assam and it was good. Enjoyed their ambiance and delicious preparations. Authentic Assameese thali, I went for the Mutton option, with great other accompaniments. The only missing thing is a faster service. I understand food takes time to prepare, but a glass of water shouldn't! The only area of improvement remains that. Otherwise,a must visit place of you're in Guwahati.

This was I believe my 50th plus visit to this legendary regional Assamese speciality restaurant, which our family has been patronising for the past 25 years plus and in my most recent visit, the same taste, portion size and service greeted us!
We went for the vegetarian vyanjan thali and added steamed fish in mustard cooked in banana leaves and fish slow smoked in bamboo hollow. This was the tastiest I had eaten in a few moons.
The vyanjan thali is an amalgamation of all regional favourites starting with Kharoli, kahudi, khorisa and the all time Assamese favourites khaar and aloo pitika.
The Tate still remains the same and this is perhaps why I visit every time I’m back in guwahati.
Service is absolutely fabulous and you are always greeted with smiles and courtesy.
Hope this place always stays the way it has been for years. An absolute must once you are in Guwahati.

We are from Bangalore and really wanted to try authentic Assamese thali. We were told to go to paradise restaurant. The veg parampara thali was really wonderful! I personally liked their dessert of puffed rice with jaggery syrup. The bamboo shoot chutney and panner steamed in banana leaf was also really nice. My friend had the non-veg pthali with duck, which she said was delicious

So this place has 3-4 floors, when you initially step in and see the ground floor it looks as if it's not open. Once you climb two floors, it's a whole another experience. Authentic assamese food as well as ambience at it's best. Food tastes great and the staff is friendly. I would say it's slightly on the expensive side but worth the experience. A meal for two could cost you around 1k.
Ps. They serve beer too
Debashree Deka
Okay a good restaurant for all the Assamese cuisine lovers.. In the nonveg thali the fish is one of my favorites.. Ambience is quite good.. But the value of money is high
Prateek Singhal
Visit to absorb the authentic and traditional experience of Assam on a platter. Their speciality includes the Parampara Thali. All the items were lovely, especially the duck curry.

The chicken prepared within bamboo shoot was delicious too, a must try with tawa paratha.

In the desserts, mishti doi is highly recommended. A mixture of puffed rice, cream and jaggery syrup was definitely trying too.
Sourav Roy
Not much option to choose from. Hilsa is seasonal but not mentioned. Individual items are so much expensive. Not an ideal place to have food.
MoodyFoodieVipancy
Heard a lot about it from my relatives and went there with much enthu for lunch with my cousin. Authentic assamese cuisine after a long time. I was quite impressed with the ambience and feel but I was disappointed with the food. We took the PARAMPARA Thaali and VYANJAN Thali. The welcome drink was some hot amla drink which we could not gulp even a sip. There was steamed fish inside banana leaf which was so tasteless and they forgot the white ingredient called salt in that. Except the tangy fish curry and the kharoli and chutney, everything was below average. I wish they do better in future.

Such an amazing restaurant to have authentic Assamese food.

More than terming it an Assamese cuisine, I'll call it as a healthy place to eat homely food.

To add to my experience, I had the privilege to dine with the owner of the place, she walked us through each dish served on the platter and how they have tried to bind together the modernized times with thier traditional cooking secrets.

It's a must of every month for the localities.

Take a break from the kitchen and enjoy the home cooked granduer at Paradise!

They are cheating guest asked the waiter for a plain soda they charged me 80 fresh lime soda cost when soft drink cost 60 when asked them about the same they say their management say to charge that way food was good but the turn down was this incident watch out for your bill as to what they charge.
Santosh Mendonsa
The best place to Assamese, Bengali and sip a beer in Guwahati. The complete chicken thali was sumptuous and filling. You can have extra item of anything you need from the thali for a nominal charge.

Very nice and popular Restaurant among Goswami Service area. Specialy popular for assames dishes. Overall very good experience at paradise...
Prangon Goswami
Had lot of expectations from the moment i entered the restaurant, the decor and the behaviour of the staff was overwhelming, quality of the food was really good but the variety of the food was very limited, lot of scope for bringing in various authentic Assamese recipies which people will really enjoy.
Kalyan Panja
It is one of those old family restaurants popular for serving local cuisine. The ambiance is nice but the waiting time is on the higher side. The quantity of the items is less as compared to the price and similar offerings in other restaurants. The taste of the dishes is nothing extraordinary other than the nice sounding names. The desserts taste good as usual.
Amit
Wanted to try Assamese cuisine so moved to this restaurant.staff is very courteous.ambience and decor was good. We could understand what to order so we asked the staff there and she recommended us to have a thali.we ordered ved parampara thali and paneer bamboo hollow.thali had wide variety of items and except few all was good with a different taste.at last we had sweet dish apsoch which was nice.

I really wanted to have authentic Assamese food. My friend took me to this place and the experience I had here was totally breathtaking. The thali layout they have is extravagant and consists of many items all super delicious. Our service was quick and very friendly with certain modifications asked for.
If you're in Guwahati, then please go and visit this place. I'll let the image do the talking.
Krishanu Bhattacharya
This place serves authentic Assamese food in form of thali. During a recent visit to Guwahati, was recommended this place by a friend and had a sumptuous meal here. Ordered for the grand thali and a veg thali along with fish wrapped in banana leaf and an unique dessert comprising of jaggery, cream and puffed rice. Highly recommend this place to those wanting to have a flavour of the local cuisine.
Souhardh Gudur
Went to this place on a suggestion by a localite.. purchased the parampara thali . The gooseberry welcome drink/ Amla drink instantly won my heart. The food was tasty and made in mustard oil. I also liked the duck curry that came with the thali . I think everything else was kind of just above average. Local Beer is available but didn't order.
Swagata Baishya
The oldest place to serve you Assamese thali. There was a time when it was the only one to serve you the best thali at a reasonable price. But with time, many other outlets opened up and the price of paradise went up like petrol. Plus they charge for everything except rice and the quantity isn’t enough so you gotta order again. So instead of focusing on the ambience, dresses of the waiters, focus on how to make your customers happy!
Utkarsh Bahuguna
Quite ambience... Not crowded... Food is not spicy, healthy and good in taste

Had veg thali and non-veg thali.. authentic assami food.. quantity is good enough to single person having good appetite...
Banashree Baruah
Soulful Assamese delicacies served in an ambient environment! Can't get enough of it! I love to take my guests from outside Assam to relish the Assamese Vyanjan Thali which includes a rustic Assamese spread..! Try out the Today's Special which keeps on changing day to day. I love that fact that the restaurant often plays the beautiful songs of the legendry Assamese singer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika adding to the Assamese feel. Prompt service and ever smiling staff. Always been a wonderful experience! Highly Recommended!

An ideal place to visit with family. Ambience is also good.
Must taste the Maas Tenga if it continues to be in same form as it waz 6-7 months back. But the quantity of chatni etc is too less one can not even make his/her taste buds feel.

Best Assamese Ethnic Restaurant in town 💓 Service was too good... Food quantity was so good.. And taste of Thali was tasty..loved it.........
RUJEBUL ALI
• Food - good not best

• Ambiance – nice

• Service – okay

Paradise.. Fimiliar with this name since I was a kid, been there with my family.but its was way back when I didn’t had the taste bud like i do now. Went there with full of expcetation, around 1-2pm orderd a non veg thali which was obvious at that time.its was moderately crowded, there were three guys siping some alocholic drink along with their launch and another middle-aged couple.order was served after 15-20 minutes which was okay.. but got disappointed by tasting the thali, it was just a regular thali available everywhere these days.no extra taste that worth mentioning. Expected more from a brand like this.

Really really disappointed by what I got that day, they need to improve on their service too along with the taste of the thali.. not recommended if u are looking for good taste,.

I went wth my family nd taste the thali there...i must tell thali is tasty...simple food yet it's good...children can also have the food....nice simple calm ambience, can visit wth ur family....

Just about to return back from NE trip, and wanted to try Assamees food. Our local driver brought us here. Had Vyanjan Thali (Non Veg) and Sewaliphulor Bor as starter. The food especially the Fish Tenga and Chicken Curry, part of thali, were too good. The starter was yum too. Finished it off with a sweet - Apsoch. It has got a good variety of NV dishes that can supplement a thali.

The service and ambience was good. Its on a busy street so parking maybe an issue. Value for money.

Surely will try this one once more to check out other dishes.

Staff was very rude, once i cancelled the order and opted to change my order which the service boy acknowledged and later served me my cancelled on confrontation he was trying impose the fault on me.... Also 3 person were having beer in a corner table at 2:30 pm, last time i checked it was a family restaurant where kids are allowed.... Food Value for money 0. Do not waste your money here.

First meal in Guwahati.. Ordered for pigeon thali.. duck thali.. very small pieces can hardly taste any of it. the khatta fish curry in the thali was amazing and so was the mash potatoes. Try the steam fish in banana leaf.
Guwahati_food_blogger
Paradise... its not only a name but a brand too... but the quality of that brand is being degraded now... the pricing is high...but i would not have complained if the food is according to the price... i food did not even touch my heart... not a food of that qualty in that price...i took the special thali with duck... my experience in Paradise Parampara is not good... and yes... about the service... its not good at all... no.one came to us with any menu... aftr sitting about 10 mins... i had to call one of the boy for the menu... didn't expect this from THE PARADISE
Aisha Bhattacharya
If you're in Guwahati this is a must visit place! Very authentic Assamese cuisine. I highly recommend the Vyanjan thali if you want a safe introduction into Assamese food. The Parampara thali is for the more adventurous with pigeon curry or duck curry and hilsa steamed in banana leaf. These are the special add-ons over the Vyanjan thali menu which has dal, rice, vegetable curry, dry vegetable, pithika, masor tenga (a typical tangy Assamese fish curry which is replaced with lentil dumplings in the vegetarian thali - mahor bor tenga) and a host of chutneys & seasonings.

A truly fantastic meal which will make you fall in love with Assamese cuisine for sure.
Smritilekha_Chakraborty
We took home their famous Pigeon Meat curry & a sweet calles ''Apsoch''. On the ground floor they were selling different Pithas. Bought a few types including the Banana pitha, Black sesame Pitha, Coconut Pitha etc. The Pigeon meat curry was excellent, soft-succulent meat in rich-creamy curry. The Apsoch tastes like Bengali sondesh, nothing so special about it. The pithas were good evening snacks. I wouldn't recommend it, except for the Pigeon meat.

Food is good with some authentic Assamese taste. But bit disappointed with the service. Price is OK average but quantity is less. But need some more upgrade in the interior and seating arrangements.

This is a very old and famous place. Visited it for lunch. It is quite well-known for its thalis.

The peculiar thing worth noticing about this place is its pure Assamese ambience-from music to deco. The place looks very clean and well-maintained. It has quite an efficient staff which makes its service very fast and timely.

Food : 4/5
Ambience : 4/5
Service : 5/5
Value for money : 5/5

Paradise is the old restaurant and many people's have dream to go and eat there as it was costly before time. Basically it's Assamese restaurant the food is good but not that tasty and the price are over-rated.

I was quite small when I last visited this place... And I must say they have so far maintained their standards... Be it their food, the ambience or the service... Like always too good... N my favourite part- The payesh they serve...love it...

My first visit to Guwahati and as friends suggested, straight headed to this place.

They offer limited ala carte options and specialises in Assamese thalis.
I opted for the non veg Assamese thali. It did not disappoint.

Generous proportion of rice, dal, sides, fish and 3pc chicken.

Taste - 4/5 (bit high on mustard)
Ambiance - 3/5
Service -4/5

Worth a visit.

Best thakli pai, its one of d besi thali restaurant in Assam Guwahati, Pocket friendly,
Love d Parampara vyanjan thali, n its items, very tasty
Papori Gogoi
Non vegetarian vyanjan thali: with just 300 Rs. This meal is really a good deal in the city having both meat and fish. Khorika restaurent charges Rs. 250 but serves either meat or fish. Delicacy restaurant charges Rs. 500 for meat thali and 450 for fish thali. The ambience is really gud. Seating arrangement is gud. Not crowded like other two. There is no second serving but the amount is more than one can eat.
Tanjum Islam Hazarika
Value for money. Good food and warm service. Perfect place for family outing. Ethnic food lovers must give a try. Very neat and hygienic environment

All traditional food in their menu, price is high. Parking is a problem, the thali they got is all about Assamese food,,only one table which got a center of attraction.

This is the 2nd assamese authentic place that I have visited with my friend and I was not disappointed. Although I don't know much about Assamese dishes, but I loved it.😊

Ambience: cool and cosy place, with lights all around, and for all the couples out there, this place is just lovely.
Food: We ordered the non-veg thali and the food was yummy. I loved most of the items but I feel some of them could be better. But nevertheless, it was tasty.
Service: The food came too late. But apart from that the service is good.

This place is a YAYY YAYY. 🤘👍👌

One of the best places in Guwahati to try local Assamese cuisine. They have standard veg and non veg thali's and few additional snacks. Reasonably priced. Few dishes have very strong mustard essence. Ambience is simple. Service is fast. Simple authentic food. Must visit.

Haters will hate, but believe me folks I have been dining at this place since I was around 5 years old and it simply never ceases to amaze me. Sure shot the best authentic food you will taste in the region!

And for extra we did order FISH IN BANANA LEAF and PANEER IN BANANA LEAF😀....Hehe never heard of it...But u will get in here. Taste is Average..And the fish in banana leaf is great. Have it. U can have 🍺...But it doesn't suit with assamese thali. And at last doi was served to us and it was above good.
Pigeon meat is not good don't waste ur 💰... Don't let a pigeon die.

The best Assamese food i had in my life.

Food :- 9/10
Pigeon Curry is a must try.
Paneer Bamboo starter is awesome too.

Ambience :- 7/10
A decent neighbourhood restaurant.
Clean and orderly.

Service :- 8/10
Service is slow but you don't mind waiting for this awesome food.

Happy Assamese Food to You!!!

Oldest one but still the top one for regional favourites i must say that the food is good both quality and quantity is maintained properly prices are good and staffs too

Very Poor Food. It is not like the same Paradise Restaurant. Pathetic service. Only interior ambience is good. Waste of Money.
The quantity of food served was also very less.

Extremely tasty food. One of the best places to try authentic Assamese cuisine. The thali system helps one almost have most things together. Very very pocket friendly too. Mutton thali is a must try. I chose mishti doi in place of payas. There are options with other items as well.

We had traditional Assamese thali at this place. Although the bamboo based dishes have an acquired taste, we did like Fish Tenga and Pitika in the assortment. Ambience of the place is suitable for family, couples alike. Also, the menu is moderately priced.
Pallav Chakravarty
Went there on my birthdy part wit my famly members...i really luvd the food it was really delicious and mouthwatering...ordered assamese thali wit shahi paneer and smoked chicken...
Overall it is good restaurant wit a minimal price tag.

Wostase food i have ever tested in my life(ফলতো ghanta খানা) they dont even know to make chicken curry in assames style. The worsted dish i have tested here in paradise

Contrary to the other reviews for this restaurant, we found this restaurant to be merely mediocre. Bland food and clinical feel to the restaurant. Try other smaller Assamese Thali, which is more than half the price and far superior.
Udangsri Brahma
Really not satisfied with service.. they don't serve fresh food.. by taste we knew that the meat was cooked the day before.. water bottle(bisleri) cost 30 bucks per litre.. hopeless place I have ever visited..

A nice place to take your non-Assamese friends for some good Assamese food! The thali is obviously yummy. A must try is the pigeon curry.

The service is good and the ambience of the place is friendly and welcoming. A must visit.

Best Assamese thali i have eaten so far. Good ambience and friendly people! A must visit for people who love Assamese food. They have a wide range of ala carte menu as well.

Visited here a good 12-15 years back and loved the place. Surprised that the quality is still top notch. Definitely one of the better places to get good assamese food.
Chandrima Dam
Parampara is a restaurant in Chandmari, Guwahati. It is mainly known for the traditional Assamese thali. The entrance is beautifully done. However when you enter the main restaurant, it goes on its own way. The waiters and the receptionists are moving in their own. You need to call couple of times to grasp their attention. The service is bit slow. Coming to the food, it is typically traditional Assamese cuisine. It has two varieties of Non-Veg Thali and one Veg and some of their signature dishes.

People visiting the city for the first time can try out the Thali and enjoy the taste of Assamese cuisine.

I found it a co-incidence that just as a visit to Paradise restaurant is a must for someone visiting Hyderabad, a visit to the unrelated, Paradise restaurant in Guwahati is essential to try Axom cuisine.

Located right on the road in silpukuri, the place offers no parking options. The lower floor appeared to be a bistro and the restaurant is on the first floor. Well decorated with glimpses of Ahomia culture, Paradise offers a good ambience adorned with Bamboo artifacts and Kansa utensils. The most popular item was the thali so the five of us ordered 2 non veg thalis, 1 veg thali, Kohol chicken and Pulao and Paneer curry.

The thali had its assortments starting with the Khar, the daals and the tengas. The Khar is usually made with raw papaya, mustard leaves, different vegetables, pulses, fish or any other main ingredient using water that is filtered through the ashes of sun dried banana skin or leaves. The second main ingredient, the tenga is a tangy / sour dish of mustard oil fried fish and cooked in a bamboo utensil.

Both these went well with the scented Joha rice. The Kohol chicken was served in an earthen pot, but didn’t seem to be cooked in it. The pulao was rather strange. It could best be described as Ghee rice with pieces of carrot in it. The Paneer was below par and may not be the best place to order one.

I loved the experience and recommend this place if you want a blast of Axom food.

Have been to this place many times since the late 90s. Food is good. Service can be a little slow on occasions like Bihu, new year etc. Thalia are great. Rates are reasonable

Had vyanjan thali and it was good. I don't eat chicken. So, had a fried fish instead of it, which was nice. The service and the food was fantastic.

Beem here during this durga puja.it was over crowded. The Assamese cuisine food has a lot of varieties here.i enjoyed my food a lot.it was too crowded though but had the meal at an ease.the variety of food was there plus the thalo which they offered had plenty of options to choose from. I.likef the Chicken bhoot jolokiya. But parking problem of cars is there.

Extreemly near my home. Had lots of family lunch and dinners here in the past. Few years back when Guwahati lacked number of local Assamese cruisine resturants, Paradise was the best. But now itz not good atall. Ambince is great but food is horibble. Also the prices are not what it should be compared to thei food quality.

Awesome place to taste authentic Assamese cuisine. Everything is cooked in mustard oil with simple spices in unique style. Staff is very courteous and helpful too. We had the thali which has all types of dishes, so it is the best way to taste different items together. We also had duck which was great. We had a hot drink made of amla before lunch too (forgot the name of the drink). If you are even on a short visit to Guwahati do have lunch/dinner here once.

Have been visiting this place from time immemorial. I miss the days when the non veg thali used to be just Rs 53/- or so. I am from Dibrugarh and whenever my family visited Guwahati eating at Paradise was always compulsory. The service, the food and the ambience were always standard and "Axomiya". However, the food nowadays is certainly over-priced and places like Khorikaa are taking its place. I seriously wish the management would look into the matter.

What do you do when you come back home after a year away from it . You treat yourself with ethnic Assamese food of course . And what better place to choose than paradise restraunt near silpukhuri . The food here is served in bell metal plates . Pure ethnicity show here . The food served here gives us a pure taste of how the Assamese people eat. Not too spicy . not to bland. just the perfect amount of spice .

Paradise is one of my favourite places in Guwahati for an awesome Assamese thali. I am so nostalgic right now writing this review as we used to go here in Durga puja. I totally love this place and highly recommend the Assamese thalis here.

Landed at Parampara in Paradise for dinner with friends. They serve authentic Assamese cuisine. We ordered the Vyanjan Non veg thali (with mutton), and extra fish curry and dal.
The service was quick. We had ordered some french fries to munch on till the food arrived. Big mistake. Never order french fries in an Assamese eatery. They were literally raw on the inside!
Anyway the actual food came soon enough. The experience was a mixed one. The food served on the plate was NOT exactly as described in the menu.
Khar and mutton curry was excellent. Rest were average. The fish was too average. The sweet Payox was just blah, rice boiled in plain milk with sugar! The Rice served was cheap KMT variety, though the waiter insisted it is Joha when asked. Any true blue Assamese can smell Joha rice from a mile away, and Parampara definitely is NOT serving Joha rice, despite what the menu claims. No second helpings were offered.
Biggest con was the utensil. There were bell metal cutlery (kaanh) on display as decor items around the restaurant, but the actual food was served in stainless steel plates and bowls...duh! Makes no sense at all. You are calling yourself Parampara and then serving indigenous food in cheap plates. Big minus point for me.
The ambiance is good enough, with plenty of comfortable seating space and eye-pleasing decor.

Decent ambience. Great for family get togethers. Limited menu. Clueless staff.

The vegetarian thaali had a sampling of most of the Assamese staples. The Kharuli was a pleasant addition. The Goroi Maas Chutney, a smoked fish preparation, was close to the home-made original. But the duck curry was a disappointment owing to excessive pepper and other spices in the sauce. The payokh, rice pudding, was delicious. There were a few preparations of lentils which are worth mentioning.

All in all, it was a good experience. Considering the tragic disaster called Jakhoi, owned by the Paradise family in Delhi, this was a pleasant change. We hope they can tune up the state of affairs in the capital and bring it up to speed like its Axom counterpart.

Good luck, Paradise.

This is the first time I had a complete Assamese meal. It was really late for lunch and my friends and me were very hungry so we were hoping to have some really good food, considering the many good reviews we read but we were much disappointed by the service, the food was good but served cold. I had Assamese food later at two other places which i liked better...for a first timer I think one should try some other place but however locals seem to like this place better.

Easily the best family restaurant for authentic Assamese food...They are serving colloquial cuisine for generations now,I always feel like revisiting this place which always gives me a homely feel...Personally my favourites are every item in the Non Veg thali, Paro Mankho etc ☺
