Review Bangkok169 - Hyderabad

Vidhyashankar Kannan
We visited the Bangkok169 stall on an afternoon in the last week. Though not a foodie, I enjoy a well prepared meal where the chef has worked hard on making the ingredients work together. And seeing the management's feedback on Zomato to some of the more critical reviews, we decided to give this place a try to see if there was a new chef in place as promised. To our surprise, there was a new chef from a star hotel who was experimenting on the dishes. We then decided to give it a try while keeping our expectations in check. We ordered 3 starters, 2 main courses and 2 desserts between the 4 of us to tickle our palates and have some fun. The starters consisted of the Fried Tofu In Thai Mint Chilly Sauce Chicken Wings In Thai Honey Chilli Sauce Fried Chicken Leg Boneless with Thai Chilli Basil Sauce Each of the above were distinct in their flavour, cooked just right and subtle. No overpowering single flavour which masked the base flavour. The Tofu was soft with just a hint of mint and chilli. It was unlike any of the traditional Indian tastes such a Paneer Tikka. The chicken wings in honey chilli sauce was cooked through well. The chicken was correctly cooked on the outside and well done on the inside. The honey glazed skin was delectable and not too sweet. The fried chicken in basil sauce threw up a flavour that was definitely bordering the threshold of fine dining. Very well made. Now that the benchmarks had been set, we decided to have a go at the most review-beaten dish, the Pad Thai noodles. Now this can be a bit tricky as the Pad Thai noodles are the flat noodles which need to be cooked properly so that it is neither soaking wet nor bone dry. It should be just moist enough with sauce to raise the flavour without being so dry that the salivary glands need to work overtime. The chef seemed sure of himself and we ordered the Pad Thai egg noodles. To play it safe, we also ordered the Chicken Chilli Coriander noodles. We were very happy to see that the Pad Thai came out well. The combination of egg, tofu and vegetables held together by the sauce to the floppy noodles was tasty. It was not soaking through as we feared. The chicken coriander noodles was once again distinct and set apart from the Pad Thai. Overall, a superb blend of ingredients. Finished with the main course, we ordered the Fried Banana with honey and ice cream and the Coconut Seasame balls desserts. Now these were in a different league altogether. The banana had a perfectly thin and crispy coating with a soft inside. The combination with the honey and ice cream was fantastic. This was again repeated with the coconut seasame balls. The exclusive Thai taste of the desserts alone should be enough to give this place a visit. We were so impressed that we took a set of dishes home too. we loved this place as it offered a unique set of subtle tastes. Nothing overpowering, everything enjoyable and a taste of fine dining offered at great value for money and sizeable portions. Definitely worth a visit now.
