Review Apnar Kolkata - Hyderabad

Rajashekhar Reddy Telukala
More discount store is an excellently located, well maintained super store with 3floors catering for provisions, clothing, and utilities in different floors. After naming as The discount stores, it changed it's pricing strategy and offering products at very competitive prices comparable to unique "DMart" model., and big bazaar. Parking is plenty and free. The vegetable and fruits wing is a visual treat for variety and freshness. Fruits sold here are free from chemicals or gases. Meat store is really very hygiene and the knives they use are of good metal, clean. For those who are fond of baking item, it is must visit place. It is just about decent. I find all my weekend stuff under one roof. Groceries, veg, non-veg (which is either comparable to outside rates or cheaper sometimes) and liquor. Biggest drawback is entry point to the store. Until you are not coming from Nizampet road, you can not take your vehicle inside. Even coming from Nizampet, you have to take auto parking lane to go to store. You miss that, you will have to take about 3-4 u-turns and travel about 3 km to get back to same point.

Not so busy store. The store has daily used items but cleanliness was not up to the mark. Only one counter is active for payment. The vegetables and fruits are not fresh. Some things seem to be not fresh. Language is a barrier, they just know the local language and they don't understand the Hindi language. Prices are less compared to other stores.
Nayab Wajih
Located on main road . Parking space is available . All grocery items are available. Generally not too crowded. If there is a queue on billing counters ask the staff , they will open the other billing counters.

Good place to get all branded items n fresh veges... Store maintained well, very good employees helping n humble. Best store for KRCR Colony ppl. Suggestion to management: whatever offers are mentioned on racks that were not applied when billing the same. When we enquire employees they will say simply offer expired.

You can get each and every basic requirements
Keerthi Ravipati
Hygienic and value for money. If there's one supermarket which gives good offers without compromising on the quality of the products, it's "more"... Products are well arranged and offers are displayed clearly, so the customers don't get confused. Billing is sluggish and you feel tired & sleepy by the time your stuff gets billed...

Very good location 👍. Not in variety but contains basic groceries, some veggies, dairy products and limited fruits. Staffs are good but only 2 checkout windows. Sometime it becomes long queue and make uneasy for quick shopping. Offers are same as others outlet.

One of the big stores in Miyapur and nizampet area. This store offers good discounts on daily needs. I always dound that fruits and veggies are fresh and cheaper compared to other stores. Good store for utensils, dairy, pulses and all other food items. The entrance to this is a tricky one... One need to take abrupt left after the signal.

Offer's will be available from 1st of every month and weekly offer's on fruits and vegetables will be on Wednesday and Sunday, suggest you to reach early morning so can get fresh fruits and vegetables, coming to groceries will be ok, compared to outside shops, good management
Ranganath - TestForce
Good and get all branded grocery quick check out

Very decent sales, billing staff. Helping the customer, in picking up various items, schemes, free offers. Pleasurable experience.

Sweet lovers must must must visit this shop and taste the different types of Bengali sweets here. I recommend malai chop and laadh chomchom. I love this place.

Went all the way from Nizampet only to get disappointed. Sweets are not fresh, Substandard quality and poor taste. I ordered mixed Bengali sweets and also rasgulla. Rasgulla is full of flour, tasted like a beginners experimental rasgulla. I wonder why most of the sweet shops don't sell Bengali sweets.

This sweet shop is beside more retail shop,it is very small outlet.I always love Bengali sweets, basically I spent my childhood in West Bengal. So I ordered rasgulla and rasmalai, both tasted good not great.Definitely I'd like to try other sweets if possible.

Pretty decent place for Bengali sweets and a few savoury items, especially given the fact that there are so few of them in this part of the city. Special love for their chhena r jalebi.
The only con for me - Coming from Bengal, the charges seem like a bomb when you compare them with the size of the product.
I have been disappointed a few times when a few of my fav stuff go out of stock well before the evening is over, but then I should probably just blame my luck for that 😉

If you display the name as Kolkata for dessert shop ..its obvious that customers have great expectations but they broke all expectations ...no such taste and sweets are overpriced also. Secondly its very small and less spacious.

Being Bengali always crave for Bengali sweets , mostly I used to get this shop as stall in CBA Durga Puja. But my recently visited the store at Miyapur and I always want to go here to get Chanar Jalebi.I have also tried there Bengali Radha Balabhi and Potato Curry or Alu Dum which was my favorite at the Stall.I would want this sweet shop to grow bit as it is bit conjusted wanted more varieties of sweets like for Nolen gur Rosogolla as well as Luchi Alur Dum on Daily basisFood 4/5Service 4/5VFM 4/5

Its a small place located beside the More Megastore(alwyn x road).I was exited to finally have the chance of eating bengali sweets after 3 months but my first experience left me extremely disappointed. First of all the rajbhog and the rasgullas were not fresh at all. They seemed 2-3 days old( hard due to cold storage).Secondly the sweets here do not have the authentic bengali taste.I tried rasgulla, rajbhogh and langcha and all of them were disappointing. Instead I ended up liking the amazing pav bhajis and dahi kachori from the chat stall just beside this sweet shop.

Satisfactory place for samosa and kachori but not for all types of bengali sweets specially not for rosogulla.

Since I will be moving to Hafeezpet in a month or so, me and Shoba have been coming over to supervize the work in our new home. Needless to say, it is also important to know what's available in the vicinity. Shoba was a born in Calcutta and that's the special connection with the place. While we head back home, we have to drive until MORE supermarket and take a U turn and one cant miss Apnar Kolkata as you turn. She has been longing to go to the place and last week we did.

At about 11.30am-12noon, is when we went. As we got in, I was reminded of Circuit's dialogue in Munnabhai MBBS. "Bhai! ye to shuru hote hi khatam ho gaya". The place has been carved out under the stairs of the building, so its pretty small. However, the place is pretty neatly maintained. I was expecting a lot more variety but that was not to be.

The Rasgulla and Rajbhog were enticing but I didnt think they were fresh. The lady at managing the store concurred. For shop that opens at 9.30am, not to have fresh Rasgullas was a bit surprizing. So we tried the Cham Cham and Langcha. These tasted fairly good. But there was no X factor in it. Shoba also felt that it was pretty average. The service was fairly good.

I dont think it is right on my part to form an opinion on the shop just with one visit. I will look to make another visit to the place to make a firm opinion about it. Since there were no great appealing things nor any bitter experiences, I will go with a moderate rating of 3. Once I make my next visit, which will most likely be during this weekend, I will revise my rating based on my 2nd experience.

Service - 3/5
Food - 3/5
Price - 3/5
Ambiance - 2/5

Update: I did go over to the store on Sunday morning around 12 noon. To me the best item to taste to gauge its quality in a Bengali sweet shop is Rasgullas. To my disappointment, they were not FRESH. A key feature of Rasgulla is that it should be spongy. The moment I put them in my mouth, it was a hard and not spongy. In fact it was actually leaving a powdery feeling in my mouth. Frankly I will NOT recommend the Rasgullas here and if I am right in gauging the store based on the Rasgulla, then I will not recommend the store either.

Revised ratings:
Service - 3/5
Food - 1/5
Price - 3/5
Ambiance - 2/5

This is the third time I am going to this place and as pre planned this time went there on a Sunday Noon (around 2:30 pm) just to avoid the rush of the evening in this shop and to enjoy all the variety of sweets one by one at my own leisure.
Being a bong I had to start with Rasgolla and Rajbhog which were slowly followed by Chanar Jilabi,Cham cham, pantowa , Rasmalai and Misti dai (Sweet Curd). Among all of them I liked Rajbhog and Cham cham the most; they were soft, tasty and most importantly healthier as they are made of milk and due to the absence of Ghee!! (unlike most of the sweets available in Hyderabad)
I got bit saddened with the Rasmalai and Misti dai (Sweet Curd). I am not able to get the exact Kolkata taste for Rasmalai and in the Misti dai (Sweet Curd) the proportion of sweet was bit less as I tasted better Misti dai (Sweet Curd) in Apnar Kolkata earlier.
I also tested Samosa and Kachori which were superb and real tasty and according to my opinion among the best in Hyderabad.
The lady who was taking care of the shop was very gentle and attentive. She was also giving us suggestions about the preparation of the sweets. We also took some sweets as takeaway.
Every time I leave this place I feel a surge of enthusiasm to visit the place again. Though the Price list might be a hindrance to make this place a regular affair but who cares!!!

Wish Apnar Kolkata all the very best.

**

P.S : While Browsing through some of the reviews I saw some Reviewers faced issue on hygiene ( like the lady who was serving the sweets was not washing her hand). I failed to notice this thing in my recent visit and I can’t recollect if she washed her hand or not or wore any gloves before serving the sweets but I am sure the efficient management team of Apnar Kolkata has taken precautions to fix those minor issues.

----- 14 Aug, 2013 -----

For a Bong settled in Hyderabad for a long time, I am sure you go sweet hunting for that essential Bengali sweet tooth and more often than not it ends up in a disappointment!
With Apnar Kolkata opening up at Miyapur, I have a feeling this search might just end up with a nice satiating feeling. I visited this small joint last week. I could figure out right from the main road that you have to enter the shop in a single file! We were greeted by an amiable elderly who had become a good acquaintance by the time we left the shop after half an hour.
We started with the quintessential ‘Singara’ without which any Bengali sweet shop would be incomplete. We moved on to Rosogollas, Rajbhog, Chamcham, Langcha and Rasmalai. Except for the Rasmalai which could have been better and Chamcham which did not go too well with the rose flavored stuffing, everything else was just mouth-watering and fabulous!
We also took parcels for our respective homes and decided to pack Mihidana and Chanar jilipi, both of which turned out to be absolutely brilliant! We ended our ‘eatathon’ with the Sandesh which also met my expectations more than sufficiently.
For Bengalis, any meal is incomplete without a generous serving of sweet at the end. We are glad that we can have our weekend visits to this joint for replenishing our stock of sweets for the week. Very good job! I strongly recommend this place.

Had a Very Bitter Experience with Apnar Kolkata the other day (27/08/13). It was my first visit to the Oulet. I was at the Outlet at around 15:30 hrs, took a Box full of Rosogolla takeaway. First thing is the Rosogolla was not fresh (shelf life finished long back) and there was too much of Rose water/Gulkand in the Sugar syrup. Couple of weeks back i have been to Kaku's @ Neredmet had their Rosogolla n Mishti Doi that was awesome and delicious, the rosogolla just melted in my mouth. All my family members enjoyed it. But today the one from Apnar Kolkata was very Disappointing, all my family members could easily makeout the difference in quality. If this is the Quality you maintain throughout it will be very hard to sustain the present Day Competition in Food Business.

I have been there seeing the posts here in Foodies group. Actually thought of going on 19th when i was near gachibowli, i unfortunately couln't find the oulet. Later i have enquired few foodies and found the oulet a week after, with lot of expectations. I was ina huge dissapointment, those rosogollas really suck in all parameters (Texture, Color, Taste, etc.,) a food (Sweet) can be judged. Even they lacked proper reception, hospitality and hygiene especially. I was attended by a lady and she was doing some cleaning work. when i have asked for parcel that lady didn't even bother to wipe her hands and served my takeaway box. Disgusting!!!!!!

Taste- 1/5
quality-1/5
quantity-3/5
ambiance-2/5
satisfaction- 0%

I visited Apnar Kolkata with a friend and got to taste the sandesh and rosgollas. I am not a very sweet-toothed person, but now can't hold myself back whenever there are bengali sweets being served. Apnar Kolkata's sweets just melted away in my mouth and my family and friends too were amazed by the taste when I took home a box of the sweets. I have eaten very high quality Andhra sweets in Hyd, but never came across Bengali sweets that very well match the taste of Kolkata's K C Dass. Nice that Hyd now has a sweet shop where I can get authentic Bengali sweets. I also went around the place where they make the sweets - the hygiene levels they maintain are quite impressive

Tried sandesh and three other sweets on Saturday. All tasted the same. Not as good as some of other reviews suggested. Limited variety. Good friendly service. Samosa & Kachori were good though.

With lot of hope, me with my wife visited this sweet shop. They are having some of the "so called" Kolkata based sweets starting from rajbhog, pantua, malai rabdi, mihi dana, mishti doi etc. etc. We tried pantua, mihidana, rajbhog and mishti doi. Pantua was so so(I guess we get much better gulab janum in hyd), rajbhog was little better. For the rest of the items I can only say, you get much better sweets in any damn sweet shop in Kolkata. And last, but not the least, mishit doi was just horrible(you need lot of courage to try this)!! After having all these sweets, I have one suggestion to the management of this sweet shop, please don't misuse the name and fame of Kolkata sweets and give wrong impression to the people who haven't tasted authentic Kolkata sweets before.

Excellent and authentic Bengali sweets. I've been scouring for good Bengali sweets in Hyderabad and looks like my search ends here. Loved the rosogolla and malpua.

Strongly recommend. Must try!!

Ambiance - NA
Service - NA
Food - 4.5/5

It's been 14 years since I have moved to Hyderabad and the search for authentic bengali sweet seems to have come to end now with the launch of Apnar Kolkata on the occasion of Jamar Soshti. As part of our group, "Bengalis in Hyderabad" we were invited to try out their various sweets.

Since I could not make it on that day, I made a point to visit the next day. You would not notice it until you know the location as its a very small space with a sweet counter. I was welcome by the very handsome Rishi who was very courteous and shared his story about AK. I tried tasting the sweets in the counter and was dumbstruck with my moving mouth and the continuous 'Yumm' sound.

I tried the Rosogolla, Chamcham, Malai Rabdi, Raj Bhog, Mihi Dana & Pantua. Each of them tasted so much Kolkata. I was disappointed with Mishti Doi and hope they work on it to make it look and taste authentic.

Wishing them all the best as they start the Hyderabad gastronomical journey for the bengali sweet tooth.

You want to have the best sweets in town? Visit Apnar Kolkata in Miyapur. I was celebrating my birthday and we approached Apnar Kolkata after a friend of mine referred me. I ordered for home delivery and a freshly made sweets arrived. Amazing taste. Our guests just loved the sweets and took the details of the shop. So much for the sweets of other popular brands in Hyderabad, its time to taste sweets of Apnar Kolkata and feel the difference.

Kaladhar
