Review Indian Coffee House - Kochi (Cochin)

Naveen K.R
The food quality is coming down in the famous Indian coffee house chains. Famous for their coffee and cutlets these chains always had their cult followings. Unfortunately over the years the quality especially in this shop is going down. It is a real shame. Tried their cutlet, poratto and egg roast with coffee, was average at best. There were customers complaining about the quality of chicken that night. Real shame.

Very good service and very tasty food but i suggest you if you are North Indian and want to order North Indian food than don't do that because it is not that much testy and also very costly. If you want authentic and hygienic South Indian food then you can go there and bring some delicious South Indian food.

Their cutlets lost its old taste, so try their Bombay toast it’s excellent, lemon tea also not bad when compared with BTH cleanliness is excellent when it comes to 1st floor compared with ground floor as toilets smell sucks

Indian Coffee House in Kochi is an iconic eatery that has been around for decades. The place has a vintage charm to it and is famous for its filter coffee and masala dosas. The prices are pocket-friendly and the service is quick. The interiors are not luxurious but they make up for it with the nostalgic vibe. The staff is courteous and attentive. Overall, it's a great place to grab a quick and satisfying meal or coffee while enjoying the old-world charm of the place.

Porotta and chicken curry was superb. Good tea and pazhampori. Good service. Reasonable price.

Good food served neatly and on time. Recommended to taste the Chicken Cutlet here, it's served with sauce and salad on the side. The best economical choice.

There is no dedicated parking lot for the restaurant. Two wheeler owners can somehow park in the road. But 4 wheeler owners might have to use the pay and park just to eat from here. Or else they'll have to park somewhere few metres away and then walk to the restaurant. The food and service is good. Only drawback is lack of parking space. I think most people go there for their cutlet (you may want to try it).

I had the good fortune to visit an old favorite haunt from childhood, the ubiquitous ICH(Indian Coffee House) located at Boat Jetty, Ernakulam, Purple vegetarian cutlets with a cup of hot coffee brought back old memories. Reminds me of Elizabethan tea/smoking rooms(maybe they are different). The wait staff in their liveried costumes and the old world charm is invigorating. I dearly muss the ICH which used to located at Jose Junction. Highly recommended for old world nostalgia.🤗😘

Pride of Kerala Indian Coffee House.. Every sunday after church service we'll have masala dosa and coffee... Still they serve good food... Especially Masala Dosa and Cutlet... With onion salad on it...

This place is amazing!
The price vs food quantity & quality is amazing!
1. Bombay toast (french toast).
2. Omelets beef & chicken.
3. Cutlets (chicken & veg - beet)

Best place to have a morning coffee 👌
Usually visits here after a morning walk.
I love their perfect vada the most. Crispy and tasty.
Minimum visit for a coffee guaranteed if u r not an ambience freak.

Indian Coffee House, whichever outlet it may be has been serving good South Indian food for a long time now. The masala dosa, coffee and the cutlet's the one of the best here.

We went on trip to Kochi on 7 May. As I visited Kochi only 2 times before so I didn't knew much of good places to eat. As I tried 'Indian Coffee House' food in other branches of Bangalore, etc and like the food there very much so thought of having breakfast here.

It is just 1-1.5 km away from Marine Drive. We ordered few items and all got served very soon.

We tried :
Coffee - It was good. With right amount of milk and sugar.
Omelette - It was prepared very well. But salt was missing in it.
Egg Sandwich - It was average in taste. It was made in hurry kind of. Not prepared well.
Fruit Bowl - It was awesome. All fruits were really tasty and in right combination. But when we started eating we saw few ants outside. As they were outside the bowl, so we ignored and kept on eating fruits. But when fruits were near about over in the bowl we saw that lot of dead ants were lying at the base of the bowl. We instantly reported it to the staff. But they haven't done anything.

When we went to pay the bill they haven't remove charges of fruits bowl and didn't even say sorry for such a bad service. When we ask to waive off the bill of fruit bowl he started arguing with us in bad tone. So we paid complete bill and left the place as we didn't want to spoil our day because of this. Already our mood was spoiled by seeing dead ants in bowl.

Overall horrible experience. Will never visit any branch of ICH in Kochi from now on.

The only fud I like to hav frm ICH is ghee roast. Chicken cutlet is also gud. Biriyani is horrible. Its not biriyani. They prepare rice with some spices n serve it with their normal chicken curry. Hate it.

I went to this place with my family and we had vegetable cutlet, it had potato and beetroot in it which was ok. The taste was not good but it was also not bad either. After that we ordered masala dosa which also had potatoes and beetroot, it also tasted the same as the cutlets. The only difference was the cutlets were crispy and the masala dosa was not, they were the most horrible masala dosa I ever had in my life. If the food is cheap it doesn't mean it had to be low on quality and taste horrible. Let them increase the price and give better food which everyone can relish.

Food is one of a kind at this place!!
Indian Coffee House 😍
Chicken Cutlet 🍴
(Crispy hot chicken cutlet served with betroot sauce and onion salad)
.
.
Price: Rs 16/- (single)
Rating: 4.6/5

A local restaurant serving the local food of Kerala. We had dosa , with sambhar and chutney which was flavourful. The masala dosa had potatoes , tomatoes and beetroot as it’s masala which surprisingly tasted good. We also had parotta and egg curry , the egg curry being a burst of spices and the parotta made well. Later we had fresh lime and coffee which was all good. The prices are really cheap and the amounts are enough to fill your stomach.

Its really a matter of great shame that how Indian Coffee House a symbol of activity and memory of Professionals, retired Senior citizens has downgraded its quality...

We visited ICH Trivendrum in July.....The Masala Dosa which was provided was of small diameter with stuffing very less actually 25 % of what was offered previously......secondly when we ordered Half fried egg with bread butter.....

The eggs were not prepared nicely.....and Bread was of small size......shame on ICH,,,,,don't ever eat in this restaurant...

Beware of ICH trivendrum.............

Went to this place to have some local styled lunch and ordered a beef curry which seemed like a great option and to my delight I had one of the most authentic meals, which was also extremely tasty.

It was a humble portion fried to the right point, and was blazing with all the masalas which were great with the bland roti. It had a very authentic punch and at the same time was easy to chew.

All in all, it was a good humble, homely meal with good flavours at a really affordable price.

Nothing went well about this place. We reached and when got a place to sit it was not cleaned and nome came until we told to clean and order. Then once the food is ordered it took a hell a lot of time to actually come to us. Most of the items in the menu are not there. The juice was just sugar and nothing else. Expected a lot but it let us down

Rating for the taste of food provided. People often dont like to visit Indian Coffee House as most of them are dirty and not provide good food. But there are certain outlet which are outstanding. This one is one among that. As it is situated very near to High court of Kerala, we can see so many lawyers around here. (they having special space too).
This ICH is always busy because of the High Court.

Must try: veg cutlet, Masala Dosa, Porotta and obviously The Coffee.

The Indian Coffee House is perhaps the most established restaurant 'brand' in Kerala. This one in Cochin is right outside the boat jetty bus stand, and whenever I am going towards Kodungallur from Ernakulam, I would make sure that I arrive 30 minutes early to have a cutlet from the place. I love their cutlet sauce.

Good food. Good prices. Fast service.

I like their coffee and ghee roast best.
FYI-they also sell their own coffee powder, which was news to me.

I always thought the one or two chipped crockery was their trademark, but to those with an OCD like my mom - your suggestions will actually be received warmly at the counter.

Good luck finding parking space at this outlet though.

Who does not know Indian Coffee House. this place is good. Serves decent dosas. Ambience okay. Near marine drive. Price very low. One time visit. Cheers.

Had heard a lot about this place, checkd in fr breakfast and it was a huge disappointment. The service was slow, ordered medu vada which where soggy & full of oil,had to wait 30 mins for the vada to be replaced. Sambar was cold, chutney lacked taste. Veg sandwich contains only tomato and butter. Not recommended.

A very old and renowned restaurant chain, I always prefer this one during road trips. Their cutlets are so delicious and a nice choice during tea time. Their masala dosa is so special filled with beetroots, so yummy and mouthwatering... It's one of the place I visit often when am in town...

Ever since I can remember whenever I was in Kerala I would visit one of the many branches of the Indian Coffee House and order my usual order. Chicken Curry with Porrota and One Lemon Juice. The spiciness of the Chicken curry compliments the remaining the two items very well and makes the food even more enjoyable. If you ever come to Kerala please don't miss out on Indian Coffee House.

I can for go the shady ambience , below par service , for a hot cup of coffee and the vegetable cutlets ...

I really recommend the beef omelettes it's spicy and obviously affordable .

Located at walking distance from Ernakulam Boat jetty, this place is dirt cheap to have breakfast! :) They have wide varieties of Dosa's served with either of Veg, Egg, Chicken, Fish or Mutton as sides to it. One should wonder how they sustain to make profits with the amount of quantity they serve. They have the other usual south Indian breakfast delicacies too.
Haven't seen a better place in any other part of India where they serve quality South Indian breakfast. MUST VISIT! Do not miss this place if you ever happen to be in Ernakulam.

Indian Coffee House is one of my favourite restaurant chain in Kerala for good taste and quality food. It is managed by the employees of the COFFEE BOARD. I have been here many times. This is the best place for having tea, coffee, snacks and meals at very reasonable prices. Ambience is normal. Always crowded. They never compromise on the quality of food. Good service and value for money. Recommended !!!

Checked in for breakfast today and I wasn't disappointed at all. This place is very neat. The staff here are quick and are kinda friendly. I like their outfit.I went for some vadas, ghee roast and a coffee. The coconut chutney sucked. However the sambar was slurp. The ghee roast was just right .It won't break your bank too as the pricing is very reasonable. Recommended !!!

The specialty of this place is their good service and cleanliness.
Everything is quality but I don't understand their idea of over charging for something.
When ordering for a masala dosa it comes with a vada and it seems as though it is complimentary, only to realize you are charged for it. Why charge for something when you haven't ordered for it?

Service is okai. Good place for family ,decently priced. Beetroot cutlet , omlet and scrambled eggs are my routine orders. A bit crowded but that shows how much people trust this place.

One of the best place to visit with family. All dishes are tasty, but it is worth mentioning their "Beetroot Cutlet" which is a masterpiece. All the waiters are dressed in their traditional white uniform making the ambience awesome.

Here's one government service which is on time, neat and clean! :) Their classic coffee cannot be missed and also, their dosa items... Ghee roast, masala dosaa... are all classics! Loved by all, this very homely Indian place!

I have been to other branches of ICH in Bangalore and pondy but here i didn't get the same satisfaction I expected. I ordered lemon tea and toast jam which was bad. You get better lemon tea opp to high court I don't remember the name of the place

Speedy service with very good food.
It is pretty amazing that they keep the food standards as it is for the past decade or more. I had chicken curry from there yesterday and it just remind me of another small time Indian coffee house where l lived on my childhood vacation time.
I will go back there for sure.Good customer service as well.
The only drawback is that half of the items from menu was not available .
Basil Issac
A quick breakfast before a busy day.. Planned only for dosa but ended up with masala dosa and poori masala..

The food was only average.. A bit saltier . And the vada they bought along wasn't hot or crisp..

Missing their old moth watering taste..

I always always always looooove going to Indian Coffee House ! Anywhere in India ! Their beef omelette is my favorite :) Not the place to go to if you are looking for a fancy menu. But they do serve authentic Indian food and it's one of the best you'll ever taste.

Indian Coffee House as for most people rings nostalgia . It was a topsy turvy ride around kochi that landed me at marine drive bus halt. The first thing I saw while getting down the bus was the Indian Coffee House .without further thoughts me and my family hit straight to Indian Coffee House .Unlike the one we have at Pune, this place has a charm of its own . We has the all favourite vegetable cutlet and coffee. We also has the 'kerala' famous nai roast, cripsy and nice minus the ghee !!! There is a small section of the place 'only for advocates' :D .All in all a good place.

It was in 2010 when I started working in Kerala. I used to be in Telecom so my job involved a lot of travelling within state. Kerala aint Delhi where street food is something you can cherish every now and then. When you step outside city area, you are own your own to tackle with language, places etc. ICH is situated throughout Kerala and wherever you go, you would find it atleast on highway. Its on main roads and near famous landmarks as well. It serves good vegetarian food along with good beverages at a very reasonable price. Outsiders like me can find safe haven when it comes to good tasting food. It was a saviour for me.

Many and many memories attached to this place,as its one the first place I went in kochi whn I came here first. The food was awesome those days but now the quality hve gone down. The taste is bit similar with tat bit extra oil nd there hot tea.the place is not tat neat but average.
You CN try this place just for food.
