Review The Oven - Kochi (Cochin)

Aiswarya Mohan
The cold coffee, grape juice and sandwiches i ordered was nice. Parking is a bit cramped but separate for two and for wheelers. Good for a quick bite. And there is a variety of sweets as well.

This shop offers a variety of pastries. Pricing is reasonable. Tried Double Ducker mousse and Honey Grape juice. A comfy shop at the beginning of Broadway close to the main road. Adequate seating is available.

Always in love with The Oven. Started visiting The Oven from college days onwards. And now its been 10 years. This is the outlet of Best Bakers. But provide double quality confectioneries than Best Bakers. The Oven offers variety items. You can also have cold and hot beverages. Veg grilled sandwich by them is my personal favorite. First you have to pay the bill and then get your order from the next counter. They wil serve within time. But the only problem is parking. Have to park in pay and park opposite the road.

Great place to get your hands on some delicious wide variety of baked goods. The staff is friendly and helpful, also good service, and the prices are very reasonable. Crowded during peak hours. Chicken burger & sandwiches ate superbbb ...Must have a try👍🏽...Good ambiance...Ample car parking space.. Easily accessible from main road...I would definitely recommend this bakery to anyone looking for a sweet treat...

Really nice, one of the best bakers initial outlets. It's a self service shop situated in such a crowded place.

This place is a must try if you love pastries! They sell amazing cakes and their eclairs are really good. The shop also sells preserves, and the strawberry preserve is awesome.

I love this place for an array of reasons. Firstly this is the place we go to when we shop from jetty menaka. Its air conditioned. Neat service. Parking is very limited. Can get really busy in the evenings. I love their cake varieties. Its self service. First we need to pay the amount. Then we ll get the food.

If you want to dig in some real heaven , then please try caramel tart . It's worth 19 rupees but I would have paid 100 also for it. Extremely yummy .
Cold coffee , pizza etc are average . , The real steal deal is tart . Will remember it forever.

This place is walkable distance from marine drive and perfect for your evening snacks or desserts. The best part is the place is they are very friendly for your pocket with no compromise on quality. I had cold coffee and cake with a bill of Rs 80.
There are numerous pastry, cake and savouries to choose from so try as many as you can without deep affect on your wallet.

The last time I visited this place is in 2008. Even after 11 years, this place kept the same trust. I heard their variety of puff pastries.
Since I was already filled, can only try Arabian pulp grapes and passion fruit juice.
I cannot give a high rating with these two drinks I tried. Next time will visit and give a proper review.

Known for Honey Grape and their unique range of puffs and pastries. There was a time when people used to visit marine drive just for having oven's honey grape. Their meat rolls, chilli chicken puffs, Jap cakes are too good

Located in the heart of Broadway, the entrance, this shop is a bliss to walk in. Loaded with so many mouthwatering delicacies, it's really hard to choose from. The shop is air conditioned, and spacious, and usually full. It's an economical as well as quality stop. You know eateries like these are here to remain. The Oven has had me as their customer since my school days and I've enjoyed spending time and money here. I'm sure they will stay the same in the future. I really love their plum and banana cakes! Fish cutlets are great too. It is a must visit spot for me and family everytime we pass the place.Cakes are their highlights but they also serve lite eats, cool drinks and coffee. Frequented by all groups, it is always crowded. A nice joint for fast, good and tasty small eats.

It’s a great place to have yummy cakes and i often use to visit there for snacks and shakes.. they have really good preparations in each items..

Age old bakery on Marine Drive. Nice pastries, snacks, teas, coffees and juices. Their honey grape has always been a personal favorite. Seats are limited and congested. But, when in Marine Drive, this place deserves a try.
Ravindhar Sudhir Pai
My all time favorite. Had been a visitor since my childhood... I dont know why but I . Am.in love with this place, so much so that some thing that they make is tasteless but still I have no problems eating it.
Gunja Banik
This is one of my most frequently visited places...wide options of pastry ,savoury items...white forest is my personal favourite. ..fresh juices are also good. . Reasonably priced. ..must try ...
Vipin VK Menon
Very crowded as always. Cant blame them though😜 . The food is great and place is small. Add to that the bakehouse is situated at marine drive one of the most busiest places and a prime location in Ernakulam.
Jeby Joseph
One of the oldest hangouts for kochiites... I've visited them a zillion times and most regularly when Sridhar theatre was a hub for English movies... loved their honey grape and fresh cream pastries... when it is raining outside try their hot Badam milk which is a really good drink to heat you up when you are wet...
Dev
Your average bakery. Visited this place after almost a decade and found it has changed a lot. The cakes are a pretty good but the rest is worth a miss.
Sethu Lekshmi
Best bake house for fresh cream cakes. Twice me n my friends ordered for black forest cake and several times we had pastries . Another thing is the different kind of grape n passion fruit juice. Best place for pastrie n cake lovers.
Rizwan Habeeb
Used to go to oven for the amazing chicken rolls and there shakes.
Nice ambiance even in that tight space. It still has its own stand even now. Place used to be like the signature of marine drive.
KARTHIK M
Defenitely an awesome place for filling your stomach for 100 rupees. Good place to take a short break. Worth a visit at least once if u r around marine drive in d afternoon. Best quality for the price.

I guess for a lot of people in Cochin, the 1st experience of a coffee shop or an elaborate bakery. However you call it, lot of memories associated with this place. How many times have i saved up Rs.20 or something like that, so that i could go and have that grape (honey grape) juice which was available no where else then in Cochin. The patties/puffs, burgers, rolls were the same as available at Best Bakers (same management), but for some reason, these tasted special while at the Oven. One of the 1st places where i had sandwiches from (other than Hotbread) and the grilled sandwiches are still a hot item, going by the way the number of people who were having it while i was there. With limited seating and self-service/pay before you eat counters, finding a table could be a tough ask. But will definitely go back there anytime before/after a movie at Sridhar. These days parking is quite a pain.
On the outside it looks like a regular bakery but theirs is one of the best cake /baked goods/snack outlets here.

The aroma of coffee hits you the moment you enter. The joy!😁

The place is air conditioned, clean.

Parking can be a challenge.

Pricing is pretty decent. I've always admired how they attract all classes of people.

I love their cappuccino cake. They even add coffee beans on top 😀

I usually go there for regular coffee, cold coffee, or passion fruit juice and I like how they never kicked me out for enjoying my coffee with a book, despite the place being busy almost all the time.

Their kozhikode black halwa is a family favorite.

The pastries are excellent.

I don't recommend their muffins and cup cakes, and some of their over the top snacks.

Service is good and fast.

Cheers!🍴

Oven - the one place that's served maybe millions of us in Cochin ! The Oven and the people of Cochin go way back and has a special place in our hearts.

Known to be that one bakery that serves good food, consistently. I walked into this place today (been years now though) and boy, it was crowded ! Had to spend about 15 mins to get a seat really.

The Chicken sandwich and the chocolate shake were nice ! Always a decent place to walk into.

very bad service. cheating the customers. normal meals charged RS 70 without sufficient rice ,currys. i paid 100. management , first u must teach the customer service to staffs and how to behave to others.

Oven is a place very close to the hearts of many in ernakulam. Consistent food quality is a factor which has helped this joint to stand the test of time.
Always going back for the honey grape and the sandwiches and rolls available there. Heard passion fruit juice is there will try that next time.

Oven fresh

Oven has been in the block for years and will remain for many more years to come.

This small jam packed bakery offers good short eats like puffs ,samosas etc .

I am a fan of the grilled chicken cheese sandwich and the honey grape juice .

Personal best haunt in Kochi. The honey grape juice is to die for. The very reasonable rates are an added bonus. It's crowded most of the time and consists of a loyal clientele who keeps coming back for the goodies. In short, love the place!
Grizzly And The Grub Machine
Dropped in at The Oven after a good 20 years. The place was packed, outside there were families waiting for a table and the staff were literally struggling to keep pace with the orders. Their pastry still has a sizeable following, even as new pastry specialists are setting up shop in the city. Their Vanilla Balls, Chocolate Donuts, Halwas and Tarts are unbeatable - especially at that price. Time your visit on a late weekday afternoon. On weekend evenings it definitely gets claustrophobic.

This was the best place for me to have a cup of coffee and some snacks whenever I wanted to have time for myself back in the day. I used to intern in an office nearby. Although in a recent visit after so many years things seems to have changed a bit. The beverages hot or cold seems to be still excellent. But the food seems to have lost it touch , doesn't feel as fresh anymore. The other day I tried the meat roll the pastry seems hot of the oven but the filling kinda felt cold. I would recommend the to please take a note of this. Coz I love the place and hope it remains on top. They certainly have improvised by introducing new dishes so a plus point for that.

The Oven is a must visit cafe in menaka for good quality sweets, cakes and snacks. They serves wide variety of hot & cold beverages. Their pulpy honey-grape juice is really yummy. Ambience is normal and is a self-service outlet with limited seatings. Love this place. Give it a try.

Been here lots of yrs back and wen i saw pics of this place some days back on zomato , some vague images of memories from tis place came to my head ..and tats y today wen i was in d area , decided to check tis place out ..
A well maintained place with not so bad ambience and a wide variety of snacks and pastries to choose from just like other Best Bakers' stores .. Their grape juice is indeed something to try for d foodies.. They don't serve the items to d table.. U hav to pay before consuming too.. Overall a nice place..
Haripriya
Most of the bakery items they serve are really good.Cakes,tarts,sweets,snacks.. but none of these comes to my mind when I think about visiting this place, all my visits were only for their grape juice.Probably it was first of that kind I have tasted back then. But later on evn after trying similar honey grapes in many other places, this one stays close to heart! A very good bakery with quality snacks.

I used to visit this place from my childhood onwards...my all time favorite place...even now also I use to visit the place... it has variety of snacks, pasteries, pizza, shakes, sweets etc... I will keep on visiting this place till I can

Grape juice. Enough said!
A place that serves yummy desserts, sandwiches, pizzas, rolls, cakes, milkshakes and fruit juices. Not too expensive, good service and really good choices of food, desserts & drinks.
The only thing they need to fix is their space problem and seating arrangement. It is too cramped.
David George
One of kochi's favourite spots to have a quick snack. Serves some of the best pastries in town too. The grape juice is a must try. It's a bit confused and is always crowded ... But who cares they serve great food and the price isn't that high.
Neha Ann Lal
the freshly brewed coffee scent is the highlight of the place.. The cakes and pasties are good.
for a coffee shop.. the place ain't pricey. :)

Ah those grape juices!
And those hot dogs..!
Coffee too!
Just simple and exquisite!
This place has been there since my childhood. And I have been there several times since the past 15 years.
And guess what nothing has changed much. That's the beauty. It should never change!

Visited several times. I love honey grape juice :) . Whenever am at marine drive my heart tends me to go to "The Oven". Lovely place, good customer service. Love to be there.

Visited only once and It was really crowded

Had a cake from there and it was really tasty

Would like to visit again when going to Marine Drive

As its on the main road,Parking will be an issue

Lovely plumpy grape juice! The best in town! Also, great variety of baked items. The place a is bit crowded and they should do something about the seating. Otherwise, a rocking menu always here at the Oven!
Ashishgupta211
Since this place is just downstairs from our office makes it the most frequently visited one as well on late afternoons, evenings. Superb sandwiches, burgers, puffs, pastries and drinks. Usually crowded with youngsters and elder ones alike (as they serve good coffee/tea as well). My usual order is a sandwich with cold badam (which is just awesome). Costs me less than a 100 bucks for a quick snack which is prepared right in front of you (freshness and hygiene assured). Can't ask for anything else.
Dhilish Joji
Way before teh fast food chains arrived in cochin oven was the bomb..it still is. I wouldn't mind waiting in a queue for a seat cause iT WAS WORTH IT. Their burgers and cakes.
Rohan_marcelo
Visited this place the 3rd time cause of the yummy cakes, but change of opinion now. It was around four pm and fresh cakes were comming in the store. Along with it was a fresh tray of these cupcakes with cashew pieces on top. They smelt nice. After a awhile I approached the counter where the cupcakes were and this sales staff is picking up the cashew piece's from the top from all the cup cakes and putting in his mouth. This went on for about four times. Seeing this I just lost my appetite and walked out the store.

A cheap and great option to hang out with friends..variety and quality of cakes and pastries is commendable...so is the customer friendly staff..had a great time.
Christy Xavier
They have very goood snacks here ! From sweets , puffs , sandwiches to pizzas , it's one of the best in the business in kochi ! Its been there for quite some time now ! Superbb place !

Well this place has been there in marine drive since my childhood and I have gone there a few times. There is nothing great about this place just another bakery and actualy it is a branch of the best bakers chain of bakery's . and everything u get here is same as best. If u are near it and wana eat cakes and sweets this place is worth a try but can't expect anything awsom from here .

But if u realy wana eat or have some snacks try bharat cafe in broad way.
Akhil
The tarts. The tarts. Also relatively cheaper snacks. Have a quick bite if you are near the Marine drive area or planning to go watch a movie in sridhar theatre.
I've been going to this place for a looooong time now. They got quite a lot of tasty treats in their shop. Love the Christmas cakes they sell. And just about everything else over there is fresh and delicious :)

This is a bakery near the Marine Drive. And since zomato had very good reviews about it , we decided to try out this place during our visit to Cochin. We had ordered Pepper Chicken Kabab ,a chicken pan roll and 2 grape juice with honey .The Pepper Chicken Kabab surprisingly is not a regular kabab but kind of like a bun stuffed with pepper chicken kabab, this was very delicious and one should try it here . We did not like the chicken pan roll which had chunks of coconut in it and was not very appealing to our palate. The grape juice with honey was very good. The best thing about this place was everything was really reasonable (atleast when compared to bangalore prices). All the 3 items set us back by just INR 180 . Also note that it is a self service place, so order at the counter and collect it from the other end.

I've been to the Oven quite a lot of times and never had a bad experience. But I am oretty sure that I am yet to get that perfect "oven " experience. Will soon go back after some more research to try the best of "the Oven"

This has been our fav spot while at STC. The varieties of pastries, snacks are fab.. This is an amazing place for a quick bite, but due to the limited space we might have to wait and chase a table. The staff are very friendly and pleasant. One of the best place for pastries, hence this has been our choice for birthday cakes since long...
Anju Panicker
If ur at marine drive and if ur slightly hungry, this is the place for you. a bakery set-up wid snacks and pastries, juices and coffee/tea, its economical and good-tasting :) its mostly crowded and you might have to wait a while to find a place of ur own.

"HONEY GRAPE" - A unique kind of grape juice you will ever have, and i have never tasted a better grape juice than this one. I also heard their passion fruit is mind-blowing, but haven't got a chance to try yet.
La La Foodie
Waste of time! They have got nothing to offer and the regular crowd there is mostly the people who got used to them when there were no other good confectioners around! They offer pastries as 'cheesecakes' and most of their pastries make you hate life. Also cream rolls are sold as doughnuts and what more! Sweets taste plain and sickeningly sweet and you will not feel like having the same thing for a week. And I read many reviews here about their 'ambience' which I do not understand. The place has some very ordinary chairs thickly packed to fit more than the number of people who can breathe in that space, and even then it can hardly host a grand total of maybe 15 people. It is crowded, with no space or even adequate seating facility, and the seating already available is below average. This is the most cramped place I have seen serving such intolerable food, there is nothing great or even acceptable here, it would be wise to visit a better place.
Zahad Syed
Been a regular place to visit while I make a visit to Broadway or Menaka. Ambience is just great. Pastries , Pizzas and the snack items really good.
Albin Xavier
This place has good ambiance and this is a place to hang out with your friends. this place have lot of verities of pastries and cakes and everything in this place is clean and tasty.

For Four years I stayed in Kochi and this was that one place I always picked my birthday cakes and pastries from. Oven not only offers a large variety of cakes and pastries along with some really good meat puffs, but is also quite pocket friendly. The place is a little crowded at times but then the service here is really fast. Do try all variants of the chocolate pastries here.

A Popular Hangout For Kochites Since Years! Located In Marine Drive, it has the best location. It is crowded most of the time. Try their Cakes, Puffs, Brownies, Grape Juice, Bread etc. Paneer Puffs, Carrot Cakes etc are among the popular. Now it's old pride is decreasing as many new outlets have come up.
MELWIN
Awesome bakery , lots of tasty varieties... ambiance is good but the area is small so gets crowded during the peak hours.. would recommend any one visiting this place to try Fresh Grape Juice and Chilly Chicken Puffs..My other favorites include Carrot cake, Paneer Puffs, Chicken Puffs, Chocolate Brownies, honey grape juice.
Nithin Santhosh
The Oven was a must halt spot for Cakes and Puffs on a visit to Menaka side of the town. I still recollect the numerous B'day parties and the "Cakes" at those parties which I have gorged on at The Oven. Along with Bread World; this is one of those vintage Bakeries in Kochi. One particular item I enjoyed in late 2000's was the Grapes Juice; the pulp was of the right age and the juice was so filling that I had to skip the extra Puff which I had coaxed my friend to order.
Collins Samuel
Oven was the hang out space, even before hanging out with friends was in fashion at Kochi. The honey grape and the chicken patties are evergreen orders. Grab the passion fruit juice if its available. Oven is probably the very few places that serves passion fruit juice.

Watching movie at Sridhar has to be followed by a quick eat at Oven. The place is full round the year. Everything from their cutlets and chilli chicken pizzas to the Christmas cakes is a delight.
Sabarish Prakash
The oven holds a lot of memories for me. I have sat here for hours with people close to heart. The honey grape is pure bliss. Now, this was 2 years back. Don't know how the place is now. Well, it seems the recent restaurant race in the city has pushed Oven down. Still, the place is a fine try.
Sangita
Gud for a snacking ..its a old place with lots of memories. As its next to sridhar, its always a after movie eatout place. Love the honey grapes nd hot badam milk.
Quite A Plateful
The go-to place on Marine Drive if you are looking for short-eats, quick service, something savoury and many things sweet at affordable prices. Cutlets, puffs, mini pizzas, croissants, rolls - all vegetable and meat - all tasting fresh and served hot. Move over a couple of steps and you have pastries, tarts, doughnuts, indian sweets, tea cakes and many more. They even serve cold beverages and coffee. In all, you can make a meal of things offered here. Have placed orders here for birthday cakes and not been disappointed.

Well, only wish the place was larger or at least had more seating space. It is mostly crowded thanks to the busy location but about 5-10 minutes of waiting should thankfully find you a seat.
Anoop Ramakrishnan
Watching an English movie at Sridhar's, followed by a visit to The Oven was pretty much a ritual during the few adolescent years that I spent in Kochi.

Located in one of the best possible places- Marine Drive- The Oven would always attract a sizeable crowd, thanks in no small measure to its proximity to one famous institution- St.Theresa's ;). Those were the golden days when our visits were often timed to perfection to coincide with the end of college hours.. ah the travails of the young & fearless :D !!

Lest anyone get the wrong picture, it wasn't just the "crowd" but the fare on offer was quite the attraction as well. Their sandwiches and fried rolls were my evergreen favourites. They also had a delectable collection of pastries as well as juices & shakes.

This place was such a God-send for those who loved fast-food & baked goods since those were the pre-McD, KFC times (in Kerala). The prices were pretty reasonable as well with a veg sandwich (nothing like the regular bread sandwich but more of a flat croissant & rather uniquely shaped like, say, the logo of Lenskart) costing Rs.10 then.

It has been a few years since I last visited The Oven and hope they're still going as strong as before and aren't a picture of neglect, considering the popularity of the mundane McDonald's or KFC with the kids of these days.
Jithu Ajayan Thaivalath
was once a popular hangout before all these new coffee shops came. Located at marine drive it has the best possible location. Used to visit this place after watching movies at sridhar. All the items here are really good . Used to be pretty crowded most of the time. But nowadays no one even thinks about this place. Hardly used to go there as the movie watching got shifted to pvr Think its time to visit this place again
The Food Guy
The oven has been there from as long as I remember at Marine Drive with its distinct board which stands out. Located next to Shenoys, this is a bakery with a small seating area and serves shakes as well as juices. The location is the biggest plus point of this bakery.

All of their bakery products are really nice starting from vegetable patis, sandwiches, rolls and pastries. Cold coffee with ice cream used to be my favorite drink out here. But nowadays I try their other drinks as well. Chocolate shake is pretty good too. And not to forget their tea & coffee.

Its crowded most of the times and thus difficult to find a place to sit. But I still love going to this place. If you are around Marine drive, do visit this bakery.
Ashok
Till date my favourite bakery in the city! If you can endure the long queues, packed seating area and virtually lack of space to even move around, it is well worth every penny you pay. Snacks, puffs, pastries etc. are all perfect to taste. The price is also very reasonable. I usually buy the bread they freshly bake when I'm there. A must visit if you're passing by and want to stop for tea.
