Review Cafe Papaya - Kochi (Cochin)

EarthVagabonds DotCom
Overall, a nice experience. The mushroom lasagna was great, and the chef’s salad was tasty. The chicken wings were really good. The hamburger … not so much. But we are American and we have never found a good burger in India 😆 Prasad was an *excellent waiter. Attentive and polite and helpful. The atmosphere is perfect. Great vibe with ice cold AC for us American tourists who are not used to the Kochi humidity 🥵 We recommend this place to anyone. But fellow Americans may find Indian dishes to be superior to the burger. (Just like it might be hard to find good Indian food in some American places.) The restaurant is ‘fusion’, but it’s heavily influenced by Indian flavors. We will be back during our stay in Kochi. Overall 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We went to Café Papaya for lunch. Not very crowded and peaceful place. Very nice ambience. Arts and books all around with calm music playing. A very nice place to spend sometime away from all the madness. Service was fast. The staff made sure that we had everything we need. We ordered Nadan beef tacos and chicken Shishtaouk. Beef tacos were amazing. Chicken was good too. Iced lemon tea was a little extra sweet. Then we ordered Lamb Loin chops and BBQ lamb ribs. BBQ lamb ribs was heavenly. It came with an amazing garlic bread. We also ordered The Dark Knight which was the dark chocolate. It was out of the world amazing. Never had such good dark chocolate anywhere till now. Overall, an amazing experience.

I had an amazing dining experience at Cafe Papaya. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Kochi. I would also like to give a special mention to our server, Prasad. He was very helpful and offered great service throughout our meal. He was always attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed. I would definitely ask for him again if I ever visit Cafe Papaya again. I highly recommend Cafe Papaya to anyone looking for a delicious and memorable dining experience in Kochi. The food is amazing, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is perfect. I can't wait to go back!

Everything gets better each time I visit this place. The service, the food, the taste... it's mind-blowing. This is a must visit place guys. Visited on women's day with my husband, but you guys literally made the day more special and I really loved the way everyone wished HAPPY WOMENS DAY and the face/hand painting. Good thought guys. Keep doing good.

Dark Hot chocolate here is the best I have ever had. It's thick and creamy. They use proper chocolate and melt it. For Rs.190 It's totally worth it. Beef fry pizza is the other dish I would recommend.

Tasty and veriety food. A good collection of fusion food available. Tasty and good quality. One of the best options to hangout. They have facilities in the upper deck for movie lovers. You can book n watch movies. Great service. Some intersting merchandise product sales were also going on..

Cafe Papaya My rating 4/5 Location: Yuvajana Samajam Rd, Souhruda Nagar, Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, Ernakulam, Kerala 682020 Ambience is so great that the place is perfect for hangout, especially for art & craft lovers. Every minute work speak for themselves. The service was very polite and they suggested the best out of their menu; Hunter’s chicken steak and Pasta Alfredo out of which our favourite was the chicken steak, which was so good along with the creamy mushroom sauce. As steak lovers it really captured our mind !!!

Visiting papaya cafe was a good experience. Good ambience and arrangements. The bar counter was looking awesome. And had their KAPPA LASAGNA .was an excellent dish. but just dissapointed with one of the drink named NELLIKKA HONEY. also the quantity was very less.
Deepa Antony
Who can ever have enough of a 'naadan' cuisine?
Pazhampori and beef curry, Kozhi and pidi all neatly summed up with a pot of mint green tea with honey. Goes without saying that everything was tasty, but it all came at a hefty bill.
The pazhampori and beef was as good as I remember. But the kozhi and pidi had fallen prey to a ruthless fusion attack of cheese 🤷🏻‍♀️
However, that ambience was nothing short of cozy and yet breathtaking.
FoodPranthan
It is a cosy place.ambience is superb. service is great.tried pazhampori and beef .it is just an average.the place is just away from the city.
Roshan Daniel
One of the best places to eat and chill at in kochi, the foods great, the ambience is great and the service is excellent , and they have live music in between as well
Naureen Moopen
Food was just average. At night the entrance looks little creepy. Didn't really enjoy the pazhampori and beef but fajita and fries were fine.
Sanjana Sudhir
It's a cosy place tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city that serves good food and a hard to beat vibe. The ambience and the service is top notch.
Me and Sunil Ram had the Atlanta Hotdog, Greek Salad, Classic Beef Fries and the Caramel Banana Shake. The portions were good, but the hotdog was a letdown because the bun-to-dog ratio wasn't ideal. Everything else tasted good! Would visit again!
Sunil Ram
Before starting with food, lemme say the ambience is just absolutely soothing! A quiet calm place, ideal to cool off your steam after a long day at work. The food served was tasty (Greek salad, Atlanta hotdog, Banana caramel shake). Also I am a bit disappointed about the location of the place. A little hard to find. But overall, a lovely place worth revisiting.

This place is hidden away in a quiet corner. The ambience inside is a surprise. Its the perfect place for people to just hang out and have a good time. The banana caramel milkshake is definitely a must have. The ice tea was surprisingly good and not your run of the mill powdered ice tea. The chicken fajitas was just okay. It actually didnt taste like fajitas, more like a chicken stir fry but the flavours were decent enough.

Nice place to hangout , they play some good music . The food is good , loved the fried Chilly Mushrooms and Penne Aarabiata😋😋. The Iced Lemon tea was also nice!

Loved this place..... It's got great ambience... As the name suggests this is the place for music, movies and mocha..... Even for some small and quick bites tooo long hours of chatting and music .... This place divides into 3 parts... To people who love their quite time.. Like coffee and books they got a separate library for it... For the friends to chill and relax with bang music you got the middle or d main room... For the art lovers... Or music composers... You have d open air all yours with Great Wall painting to beautiful... And emotion captured pics.. On the walls of caffe papaya.... They have great food also... Good refreshing drinks..as well..... Prices are little high but worth.... Loved it anyways..

This is THE only place in Cochin, I’m going to rate 5/5. Here’s why, the ambience, that’s what. It feels like home, decor is on-point and the food ? Well it isn’t great, but it isn’t bad either. It’s better than most places in Cochin. It’s above average. I like the choice of music played in the Cafe’. Also, Amal is doing a great job. Management take note.
I’m attaching a picture of the Melon Colada I had that day.
Also, it would be nice if management takes kindly into its regulars, and provides a discount of 15-20%.

If you are looking for a place to chill in Kochi , Cafe Papaya is definitely a place to be !! ✨✨✨
Soo in love with the Vibes 💜💜
They also have live music 🎼 on certain days !! Love the food. They had a dish with weird combo of banana fry and beef that tasted sooo yum !
Rohit Menon
Decent shakes, especially the chocolate ones. They did have something different with coconut and watermelon though, not a fan. Quantity wise, well I'd advice that you eat here, then go out and have a full blown kerala meals! Seriously guys, even uncle scrooge wouldnt be this stingy!
Foods ok. The place is just ok.

Fajita-Beef
(Chopped Beef,caramelised onions,capsicum,spring onions,cheese overloaded and a soft bun)
.
.
Cafe: Cafe Papaya
Price: Rs 220/-
Rating: 4.5/5

One of the best caramel frappès i have tasted so far..a must must try for all food lovers...
I tried their chilly mushroom fries today ..crispy outside with amazing soft mush inside...4.5/5
Quiet an evening place and I loved the ambience. I had the chicken fajita and the green lime sparkler. The sparkler wasn't up to my expectations, but the fajita was quiet a delicacy, because I tried this for the first time. Also, the place gets better when you're around people who share the same vibe!

The place has got great ambience. Such a calm place to get relaxed from a busy day with a reading room. It has also got a live music space. The place is covered with art, movie and music posters.

The food was really good. We tried their club sandwich and chicken steak. The sandwich was perfect with all its flavours. The steak was bit dissapointing, it was like the chicken got drowned in the mushroom sauce.
The drinks were fine. We tried their passion fruit ice tea and bluberry ice tea which good.

We had to wait so long for the food and staffs weren't much interactive. But it was worth the try.

Cafe Papaya looks and breathes films/music/art. There's a reading room on one end and a restaurant on the other (with a dedicated space for live music + an outdoor seating arrangement, under a canopy of greens). The television mostly plays documentaries related to music/films instantly capturing patron attention while the order is being prepared.

The indoor ambiance is also neatly executed: dimly, lit, dark black/blue walls (on the inside, while it's white on the outside) with photo-frames of cult-classics (in the field of music & films) and a drum kit kept on the stage. Ordered Crispy Chicken Sandwich (230/-), Classic Beef Sliders (180/-) and a Robert Brownie Jr. Shake (220/-). I really savored the sandwich: crispy as they said, compact (one hand will suffice) and didn't carry excess salad. The shake however, was below par for the hefty price charged. I've had way better brownie shakes for half the quoted price, elsewhere.

Service is excellent - staff knows the menu inside out (although a good part of it wasn't available during our visit since they had just opened for the day - 1: 30 PM). Getting there on a two-wheeler might be better as the parking space inside the premises is limited. The green canopy surrounding almost the entire venue is a sight to behold. Definitely worth a visit, but choose your beverage wisely!

I checked out this place cause of all the gigs that happen here. The place looks really good. Nice work with the interiors👍🏻. I tried the Smoked Beef Sliders. They were yum indeed 😄👍🏻. Must visit !

It's a calm and silent place . Nachos Platter and Iced lemon tea in big bulb shaped bottles were ones I had from this place . Good Ambience is felt . From the Menu I think it's bit overpriced probably cuz it's silent place.

This place has always amazed me with the kind of ambience it provides. This time tried their weird sounding yet super yummy pazhampori(banana fry) and beef curry combo which was indeed a treat to the taste buds. Wonderfully cooked potato cheese balls (beef) was again another delight. Their ginger lemonade which is my regular from the cafe maintained its place in my personal favourites.

The cafe is a great place to hangout with friends. Music and the ambience is great. The food served was amazingly good. The people are good at service.

Live music ( if u are lucky) , yummy food and a very friendly host ,all of this makes this place a must try on my list . The food is inspired by the west meets east theme . With common foreign food served with an indian twist . Drinks are basic and are served aesthetically . Ambience is classy with dim lights and a beautiful stage for the live bands playing here .
When it comes to food , they boast of their finely prepared steaks and to be honest it is actually worth all that praise . However the one thing that made me loose my heart to this place was it's in house library . Yes that's right , a connecting hall has been turned into a library with 2 racks full of books and a couple of seatings for the readers , so you can sip on your coffee or cooler and just enjoy a book in this cosy place . It's a one of its kind cafe in Cochin .
I personally loved this place .

Cafe Papaya deserves a 5 star for their ambience!
It's so calm and quiet, and surrounded by some beautiful paintings and a small library. Gives the perfect feel for a peaceful evening with your loved ones.
I'm a fan of their hot and sweet chicken strips!
Geofferin John
Really enjoyed the ambience of this hidden gem. Decorated with beautiful artwork around the outdoor seating area creating a very chill environment.

Had the papaya club, it was not how I had expected it to be prepared. A slight improvement can be made to the choice of bread, french bread would have been a better alternative to the current use of bread slices.

Cool Interior. Good ambience. Responsive and friendly staff. burger was just fine. a little unsatisfied with the mango lemonade and the salad. Food need to be improved. very well liked the hot n spicy sauce served wid the french fries.

Cafe pappaya is has different ambience than any other cafe in Kochi. A old house turned into a nice cafe in a artistic style. They have indoor and outdoor seatings. They have a stage which plays live music. Checkout there Facebook page if you want enjoy live music by famous bands. This place is easy to miss as it's located in a narrow road. Now coming to food we ordered a classic cheese chicken burger . Taste is good. But I like the ambience of the cafe more than taste of food

I love the space - lovely place to chill - but service is a bit slow
Some funky combinations u should try there
Overall a lovely place - and worth a visit
Good job
Ambience -4/5
Quality -3.5/5
Overall 3.5

Cafe papaya - if I would rate the location where is it located will give it a 1. Had a hard time finding the place even after using google map. it is in a small lane and it is easy to miss and I will have to take a U turn again to reach the place. But once you r there all your pain labour is going to calm down. A very artistic place with place to air outside ? A library room, a small theatre and all that is there is classy there . From an ambience perspective one of the best cafe's I have been in Kochi. Tried Sandwich and pasta which was Good and nothing to complain. Had a deal gun voucher so it was less pinch on the wallet as well . A different place for pple to try who think differently.

I really liked the ambience and the food is also good. Been here thrice and got good food all the time. The service is also great. So in short everything is great

The first time we went there it was really good. The pasta was the best I had in Kochi. But the second time the main chef was not there and the food wasn't that good. One of the partners, Mr. Nirmal Kutti was very friendly and gave us a complimentary dessert, for the disappointing chicken salad we got. Would definitely visit again, once the usual chef is back!

This place is tucked away in a small street and is quite easy to miss. The place is well decorated including a small stage for performances. I was really taken away by the ambience it had. Posters of rock legends , many rare books, it was all spot on.

We ordered the chicken steak and some burgers. Literally had to wait 1 hour for the food to arrive. Now moving onto the dishes , the chicken steak I had ordered was immersed in a bowl of mushroom soup. The menu had said it had mushroom sauce but this was actually soup. The chicken was dry though the presentation seems good. I've never had a steak that looked like this (Pictures included).

Now moving onto the burgers that my friends had, the patty could have been more cooked as it seemed a bit "squishy". Cheese could have been melted and the bun could have been toasted well. We wanted to order a chocolate fudge but they seem to be out of it. The food was a disappointment to me and not at all worth the money. Hope you guys improve.

On an unfortunate Monday evening, my friend and I decided we should try out a cafe we haven't been to before and based on the hype surrounding this place, it came as a natural choice.
Nestled away in a dark alley, a modified house sets the location for this 'popular' eatery. At around 9:00 pm, the premises were empty. So much so that we wondered if we were at the right place considering the popular reviews that claimed it's usually buzzing with excitement.
Being the only two people in the cafe, we put it down to being a Monday night and started questioning our ethics as people who go out on week nights for dinner. Oh the shame!
The sole waiter / cashier grudgingly came up to us, handed over our menus and wasn't too happy that we crashed in on his solo time.
The menu was exciting and both of us thought of ordering a cream of mushroom soup for starters. My friend decided to order the Château Briand, while I was hopelessly excited by the croquet monsieur for mains and we thought some lemon iced teas would be apt to wash down all this exciting food.
Mr. Uninterested came to take our orders and told us that neither of our choices for mains were available and so my friend went with the chicken steak in mushroom veloute and I ordered a tuna melt.
After waiting for what seemed like eternity , my friend was given his steak dish. We were left a little confused because the mushroom soup hadn't come and my friend decided to wait till the soup came so he could have his food in order.
Waiting for pigs to fly continued, and finally the mushroom soup came with a plate of garlic bread.
The soup was insipid, under seasoned and disappointingly cold. The garlic bread was however crunchy and I may have been so hungry at this point, that I thought it tasted decent.
My much awaited Tuna melt came. My friend and I stared in disbelief for 5 minutes at my dish. I get it , tuna melt isn't your quintessential gourmet dish but what I received looked like a 12 year old decided to do a bad audition for a cookery show. The bread had some cut up slices of processed cheese arranged in a checkered fashion over it and I opened my sandwich to see some unloved canned tuna that the chef decided he was too lazy to do anything to, apart from cut up some jalapeno and pickles to mask the canned taste topped with another slice of processed cheese. I mean, come on. Make the effort to at least slice up a bit of cheddar or mozzarella.
You'd think we had enough disappointment for the night but no. The lemon iced teas came. Without ice. Lined with ants.
The mushroom veloute had the taste of dirt and the chicken was under seasoned as expected.
By this time, we've had enough and asked for the bill. Yes, we paid 220 Rs for the crappy sandwich, 200 Rs for cold mushroom soup, 280 Rs for chicken in mushroom dirt and 140 Rs for each ant laced lemon ice tea.
The only saving grace perhaps is the reading room they have in a corner, if you can go there without eating anything from this horrible place, then perhaps it's worth a try.
Stay far away from this place, Kochi. You have far better options.

A good hang out...food was ok...we ordered chicken steak thinking it will be a breast piece. But what we got was small chunks of chicken in white sauce. Have never seen a steak served like this. Service is great. Drink ordered by my daughter fell down accidentally but they replaced it free of cost.

This is the first place I went with my friends to chill when I first came to Kochi. But it is not because of the name, it is just because it was near by. The ambiance is commendable though, it is beautiful. The food is what we might say OK. But the price is somewhat more than what we expect.

Good Food and Drinks
But COSTLY

Beautiful Interior

The Parking facility can accommodate only 3 cars .

Live Performance Area is awesome
But very congested

My favourite place to come to! The ambience is just perfect and the food is even better. I always order the 'Shroom Burger' and an 'Ocean Blue'. I recommend this combo to everyone. Keep up the good work guys! 💕

Great place Awesome burgers and everything else. It's laid out wonderfully and they have a live music place and a library. Not a quick place to find but it certainly does have a feel of its own.
Joe Lawrence
Burgers are the best things here! shakes and stuff are okeyish! and the ambience is good.. choclate fudge is real good! its a nice place to hangout with friends! in love with this cafe

My day is incomplete without a cup of cappuccino from this cafe. I love this place for it has its own garden and is a calm and quiet place to chill after a hectic day.
The staff is very friendly and they make it a point to make ourselves feel comfortable. Walls adorned with beautiful paintings and quotes , a performance space , a library with good coffee table book and other novels and probably the best cappuccino in the city and some really good music to chill to, this is my pick for every hangout that I make with my friends. The food is great. Every time I visit this place there is something new , either in the menu or in the environment that it hookes me . And the chef is one of the most innovative chefs around. A never miss spot if you are planing to dine also :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Food : 5/5
Service. : 5/5
Ambience. : 5/5
Accessibility. : 5/5

The place is just ok. The ambience is good, but not well maintained. Looks kind of shabby.

However food totally surprised me. Tried Steak platter, Chicken roulade and double patty chicken burger(dont remember the exact name) . The burger and steak platter was really awesome.
Had a passion fruit mojito too, that was also good. But not upto the mark.
Shwetha Vipin
A cafe that equally delights your appetite and soul. The ambience is just sublime and food as hell as gratifying. I got introduced to this cafe by my friend and ever since there is no looking back. I cant stop suggesting this place and taking friends here. One of the best cafes in the city that serves amazing food that is simply delicious. Being one of the very few economical cafes in the city, you can eat without the worry of burning a hole in your pocket.
If you are a film buff, well this place is a perfect getaway into the reel world. Very artistically created cafe that radiates vibrance and postivity.
Bottom line: Any time any day, Cafe Papaya!

After hearing a lot of reviews we decided to try out the place .The ambience was really nice , with great music and they even had a reading room. we ordered steak in mushroom veloute and i must say it was really great. Hats off to the chef. The mushrooms tasted yummy😍. service was also pretty good ,they bought us food before the time they promised. For drinks i had a drivers punch which was awesome and my friend had a ginger lemonade which was just OK. overall the experience was great, will surely go back to taste some of their desserts. The only suggestion i have is that it would be great if u serve cold drinks with a coaster.
Eat Like Jo
Its a beautifully maintained art and music studio to put it together, but they serve some tasty treats to guests!! :) This is in fact what cafe papaya is! Ambience and live music performances are just wow for any normal human being visiting there! For all out of the world frekkans, its just their everyday madness!! Great experience!
Anu Francis
It is an awesome place. Nice ambience. The food is good. I tried their pasta, steaks and sandwiches and they were tasty. Price is bit high. This was one of the best cafe I tried recently.
Aravind Ajith
It's just an average place. The food and the drinks are very expensive than what they really offer(be it the place or food). The place is quite peaceful. That's the main positive what I felt. The drinks are great. I tried strawberry lemonade(mix of strawberry, 7up and lemon) which tasted good. But the price is too high for the content! The ambience is good.
Rohith Santhosh
To be honest, if you are looking for the cafe with the best ambience. Pappaya is the place you should be. A sacred blend of food, movies music and literature. This place is an amazing one to spend sometime in the vening with absolutely amazing food. I have tried the burgers, sandwiches and their signature starter pazhamporri with beef curry. A must visit place for an art and food lover.
Justy Paul
I visited this place after getting a voucher from dealgun of 149 bugs for 300 .The cafe is located in a narrow road ,basically its a house converted to cafe and the place looks scary. The ambience is good, good for people who like loneliness and less crowded place. We ordered chicken steak platter, walnut dessert and pasta.
The quantity is not sufficient for single person only.Chicken Platter is OK but quantity is too less,Pasta was so horrible that we couldn't even taste 2 spoons and we had to leave it as it is.Walnut dessert was also very bad, basically 2 raw(suppose to be ripe) bananas dipped in mango ice cream scoop.Overall very bad experience and a dead place.
Vigil
The ambience and value for the money are the two things which is gonna make you visit this place again and again. A classic beef burger and the ever famous pazhampori and beef curry with the vanilla blue and green lime coolers

Cafe Papaya is truly a convergence of Art, Music and Great food. Quiet an awe inspiring combo this, especially if food is palatable. I've been here before and was frankly let down. Such first impressions tend to stay and forms a cloud of prejudice every time you walk back in. But I was wrong this time around. Honesty, wouldn't be upset to have myself corrected this way. This place has gone through a rigorous shaking down and it shows in the menu too. The chicken strips with sesame seed garnishing for starters, watermelon cooler, crispy chicken sandwich and chicken steak carefully soaked in a creamy and rich mushroom gravy. Wow. Wow. Wow. They've nailed it this time. Cafe Papaya - You guys have truly out done yourselves here and I'm your greatest fan now.

To reach here , u have to go through a small road from Palarivattom called the North Janatha Road and on reaching here you will see a house with boards written Cafe Papaya ! Yes , it is a house transformed into a cafe, live music venue and a Cinema Hall (upstairs i think) showing Ashik Abu's film ! Parking will b your biggest problem if u r coming here on a 4 wheeler in d evening .. Luckily we went there just after they opened at around 2 pm and got d parking space easily as we were the only customers at that time .. There is a small stage with a drum set and a dedicated reading room inside the cafe which were new to me.. Their Menu is a bit on the expensive side I would say for what they offer along with the location and the ambience ! We tried their Steak platter , Classic Beef Burger , Classic Chicken Burger along with Mocha Colada .. Took their time to serve those but d food was good ! The colada wasn't upto the mark though ! Ambience wise it isn't d best with its lighting arrangements .. The staff (North Indian maybe) who took the orders wasn't d best in communicating as we had to ask him to repeat what he said several times .. Some people kept appearing and disappearing from d doors inside d cafe which was strange ! Overall , I'd call it an Average Experience !

The cafe has got a good ambience. Calm and quiet. Not a very big place. Good service. Has got a reading area with some books.
Had Mango Sambharam. It is good. If you love the taste of salted mango with green chilly, then try the drink :)
Renny Panicker
Have visited this one 2 times, great ambience and very less crowded. Ideal time to visit will be around 6.30 to 8
Checked out Mango samabharam, was of a quite different taste.liked it and papaya club sandwich also was awesome
Beef sandwich was ok, but not great
They give potato chips with sandwich which was very oily,
A nice place to sit and talk for hours
Khuludusman
A very calm and quiet place. The food was just 'okay' 'okay' but I loved the place and the atmosphere... Really good place to chit chat and hang out and the service was goodits a little difficult to find the place out as its a bit away from the main road!
ANOOP M.S
Awesome place to hang out. Really loved the food and the service. It was a hard time finding the location but it was worth it. For Those who want sit relax and enjoy some good variety food cafe papaya won't be a disappointment.
Akhil P Das
One of the best cafe in kochi with its ambience and food. This cafe was well known for its ambience and events conducted there, now they have comeup with excellent variety dishes too.Service and food is really good now.So far one the best place to hangout.
Zepheena Henry Dsouza
I gave cafe papaya a 4.5 as it is my favorite go to place for ; meeting up with friends be it formal or casual, for a quick brunch or a late dinner or for just having some "me time" by relaxing in the library with their refreshing iced tea and the Calvin and Hobbes collection book or maybe to just sip on my hot cocoa listening to the new track of James Bay or Sia, yes I love the ambience! And now they're having one of those "damn Daniel" moments as they're back at it again with a new fuller and filling menu. I love this place for everything they offer! If you haven't been today is your day!
I tried out this place and this is one awesome place where you can sit at peace right in the middle of the city. The ambience is just perfect for me. Beautiful outdoors and simple and minimal inside. There's a wall painting which shows the artistic value of this place. Papaya has a small and very interesting library for those who want to spend some time reading. Like their tag line they have the best coffee served and wonderful playlist and I believe they entertain the world by producing good movies too. Yea, I am talking about one of the best director mr Aashiq Abu is part of this papaya team. I found the previous reviews a little biased because I did tried chicken steak and it was the best or one of the best I have had in recent times. I am sure I'll come back for more food tryouts. The menu is looking great and it sure will make you come back for more. I'm giving this place a 4 with no doubt.
Just Hungry
I gave this cafe 🌟🌟 only for its beautiful ambience. There is a space to choose from a variety of books & read it right there and also an area for music with drums and artwork displayed on the wall.We went in with really high hopes because it was 'aashiq abu's' cafe. But had a really disappointing tryst with food & service.I had ordered an inji-pachamaanga juice which though sounds different was really bad to taste.
If they change their chefs & servers, this could possibly be a really cool place to hangout!
Apoorv Kc
The ambiance of the place is quite good. The Cafe also has a decent library attached to it. The staff was friendly and the food was good.
However, coming to the cons, the menu given here has changed. The new menu hardly has two-three vegetarian options. In spite of the excellent ambiance, there was a mosquito while the performance was on.
It's definitely a place worth trying if you like music with food, books with music or books with food.
Joseph
Papaya is in the middle of a revamp. So the menu is currently a bunch of stapled A4 printed papers. Maybe in a week or 2, they might have a more established menu. I hear they are going to concentrate on Asian food.

Never checked out Papaya cos I always assumed it was a place that runs solely for the gigs that happen. But i was surprised to see that the food (though basic) was good and priced on the lower side.

Decor: The place is well done. they also have an outdoor smoking lounge covered with creepers. The place has a Library, a small stage for the gigs and the sound system is great. Good place for a quiet date, reading etc.

Food: The menu has a lot of tweaked traditional malayalee food. Like Pazhamporis(Banana Fritters) with beef curry, Aval Nanachathu and Green Mangao Sambharam (Spiced green mango flavoured buttermilk). The sambharam is a winner and the fritters with beef surry is an interesting combination. We also ordered burgers and a chicken sandwich. Both served with fries. The sandwiched are made using home baked bread and the food felt homely. As for drinks, we ordered a few mojitos/coolers, but the Virgin coffee colada was what stood out. Strong recommend.

Service: The service is slow, but we were a group of 20 and we wanted to take our own time. So it was okay.

Value: I found the place value. Sandwiches and burgers at 120, Drinks close to 100. The Pazhampori beef combo was 120 Rs as well. Good for the qiuality and the ambience of the place.

I will go back if i want to spend some time with friends.

Good ambience and music is too good.. Live performances make the place more enjoyable but food still has to get better... Quality is fine but taste matters too... New chef and his attempts to make varieties is good but still has to get better

Been hearing a lot and also the wait was long, so as I walked thru that small pocket road towards the cafe I was full of excitement. I saw a beautiful white house in front of me and I had a strong feeling that I was walking into someone's house uninvited. But when I saw the familiar dusty Land Rover I was sure that I was at the right place. From the lavish entry u walk into a cosy cafe with subdued lighting in the shades of blue and purple. The ambience was beffiting the mood of dark sky and looming rain clouds outside. We settled at the nearest table and went thru the simple menu.

The menu was an easy one, not great variety, wudnt confuse you what to have... :D We thought of ordering some cakes or desserts to go with our coffee. Imagine our surprise when they said it's not available. So we all settled for a nice mug of coffee, with a logo of cafe Papaya on it. Well it did take a long time to come, considering we had just ordered some kaapi. We tot the Papaya logo was taking him long to make. :D

That long wait wont be long of you spend it enjoying what the cafe has to offer beyond food, the tree of life inspired live concert area, beautiful library/office with amazing graphic novels and a Yashica 635, a double format film TLR camera proudly sitting on the shelf. We enjoyed our coffee, played with the kids around, had an awesome time and then we went our way.

This was all a year ago. Now again when I sit here, they have loads of new varieties in their menu, awesome sandwiches, the beef garlic bread combo, etc. The taste of food is good and the drinks are even more refreshing, and serving is getting considerably faster. But what makes me come back here is a feeling that cannot be restricted to just food. And cafes are meant to be that, fuel ur imagination and create a sense of nostalgia, while they serve food too. Cafe Papaya does exactly that and I hope to keep coming for these food for thought.

Awesome hangout place. Hats off to ashiq abu and crew.Actually it situated end road of palarivattom and kaloor. The way to cafe papaya is through a pocket road.Bt i like the concept that used for cafe papaya. They renovated a old house for cafe papaya. The ambience is pretty good. Drink and eatery also goods. There is a small stage for live music. Most of the ashiq abu's film promotion and celeb bday parties happens in this little beautiful cafe.

I really loved the ambience of this place. This place really suites for those who are going on a date. I also liked a food item named "pazhampuri with beef curry". It's a really a new concept. Though the dish sounds funny..it actually tastes good.

I really liked the concept of this place. If you are alone or with a partner, there will be a fitting space in this cafe. It has a library attached with some interesting books to read. The main cafe and a lawn area can be used to hangout.

Among the food we ordered I really liked the Kerala beef curry. I didn't like the 'pazham pori' (Banana fritters) they served. Also the Amla and Honey combo taste was forgettable.

But what I really hated is the time they took to serve the food. There was just a couple when we went in. Still they took a lot of time to serve. Really wish they could improve their serving time.

Wonderful ambience and exquisite food. The staff is alright but service is quite slow. However you wouldn't notice any of these cons if you are there to simply hang out with friends or read a book. A wonderful place - I suggest everyone to look it up once.

Very good ambiance! Thought the menu contains less items, the listed items are mostly good. Must try pazhampori-beef and manga sambaram!
Nice place to hangout!

Cafe Papaya was the perfect place to have walked into that rainy day. We were on the look out for a quite place to get some food while finishing off some intense work. Very nice ambiance. Peaceful and inspiring. Service was good too.
The let down is the food. It takes a while to arrive and the taste is only mediocre. Quantity is not great either. But I must say the drinks were a real boon!! Very yummy and refreshing.

Papaya is a chilled out place. You can hang around here for a really long time and not be bored because they have a library, great music and a food menu that is very innovative and different. They also have live performances occasionally. Oh, you could also meet someone or the other from the Malayalam film industry there coz they are all hanging out at this place.

Food and service needs a separate mention for the quality is better than most places in Cochin. Ambiance is just right to make u feel comfortable. Its more of a youngster's place and i would definitely recommend a visit if you are in Cochin.

This place is all about the vibe. Refreshing music, excellent library and wonderful people. The prices are a bit high but possibly a one or two time visit for the vibes. A perfect cafe if you want more silence and peace of mind.

Cafe papaya. Such a peaceful place to chill out. Everything done neat. They have places for performances. Place to chill in the open or sit indoors. One of the best cafes in kochi for sure.

The food here is very good. Lots of variety, decent service too. Nice presentation. They have lots of choices. More than the food and drinks, it's the cafe itself that gets your attention. Lots of things. A movie lovers cafe. Frequented by the movie industry. If visiting kochi. This cafe is a recommended place to visit.

Café Papaya, fed me kinda curiosity when I heard of it for the first time. But it really did proved with a strong built up. Artistic, blended, smooth and lively place. Textures add up to the taste where people come in for something more than food. Food does the justice with not such an elaborated menu but mouth watery. A place I would like to go again and again. #kindafeelofarastarinas....!

This is one of the most well done cafes I have seen in cochin. It's got a great deal of taste in every detail of the place. I loved the outdoor area with the creepers growing above and the indoor library and stage.

We thought that we may have come on an off day as there was only one other table occupied. This is the point where the good part ends unfortunately.

I must add that we were quite disappointed with the limited menu choice and were very upset with the time it took to get us our sandwiches. It took almost an hour to get my food and and another 20 minutes to get my wife's food.

If only the service matched the ambience.

A small cafe/restaurant with a strong artistic theme. There's a drum kit and a library attached, which was a very pleasant surprise. The ambience is very relaxed and chill, which goes well with the music and books. In addition, the food is very reasonably priced and comes in decent portions. The service was on the slow side, but it was worth the wait. The Lebanese chicken roll wasn't anything great, but the beef with fried banana fritters and Yemeni chicken were great. A nice place to spend a weekend or a date and unwind.

It took us forever to locate the place which is quite in interior part of Palarivattom. Found it strange to have a cafe in such a place very remote and cut off. Once inside, the cafe was practically empty except for few people here and there. A noisy bunch of youngsters screaming away made it uncomfortable for us especially since I went with family. The food we ordered ( 3 sandwiches and oothappam) took an hour to get to us!. Sandwiches were mediocre. Oothappam with coconut milk was ok. Finally the guy who was processing payment didn't know how to use the credit card processing machine and asked me to pay cash! I said I don't have cash. (The place being cut off from civilization with no ATM in sight dint help matters!)

Overall got an eerie feeling about the place. Not good vibes. Sorry I wouldn't recommend.

Awesome hangout place !! it was a killah day there.

I'm always on a constant look-out for interesting places in Kochi. When I heard about this place I also heard that it’s frequented by art lovers and musicians! Now, inspite of looking the place up on Google maps before I trekked there, I missed the entry from the main road and had to use my GPS to find the place.

One step inside, this place is like nothing you have seen before! With a high ceiling, there is a good amount of open space here. They have kept the deco simple but modern and exclusive! They have even accommodated a live stage complete with a drum kit and authentic artwork in this space. This overwhelming feeling of anticipation was cowed down by the vacant chairs! The place was empty! It had a certain eerie feel to it! Finally we spotted a waiter seated on a high bar stool behind the counter. We politely asked him if the place open, he said yes!

Now the menu looked really simple. I expected a lot more variety. But there is absolutely no lack in creativity in naming the food on the menu! The cold coffees and chocolate drinks were great! The sandwiches we ordered were surprisingly good too. It tasted fresh! No complaints on the pricing front.

But one word of advice, to my fellow foodies, order early and fast! The food took an unusually long time to reach our plates. Infact we conspired that it may be brought from some nearby restaurant!

Word of Advice: A nice change from the other usual hang-out areas. Go there if you just want have a great time with your friends!

It's a cafe, yes. But it's more than a cafe! The number of foods they offer is less, but varieties is high. More than a cafe that provides food of same genre, Papaya is a place were 'some great tastes are curated!'. The location is a bit far from main road, still very inside city. They have a small good library too! If you are searching for a place to sit for long hours and chat with friends or to read or work - Papaya is a great place! Must Try : Anything in menu, starting from Pachamanga Sambharam (ButterMilk with Raw Mango and Green Chilly) to PazhamPori & ErachiCurry!

More than a place to eat, it serves its purpose as one of the few places in Kochi where u can hang around aimlessly for hours without the staff giving u pointed looks implying its time for you to leave... But if u DO want to snack on something light or have a beverage, it's good for that too. The most noteworthy drink was their mango sambhaaram which was perfect for a hot day. Haven't tried the salads but they did look appetizing. A lil expansion could do in the menu. Probably a dessert counter with pastries and doughnuts could make the place a better choice.

I don't think the Cost for Two bracket of 1400 Rs holds true for Cafe Papaya. They are a lot reasonable than that.

Cafe Papaya serves their purpose of representing Music, Movies and Mocha - and exactly in the same order. For this very reason, you wouldn't find an extravagant menu with a variety thrown in like other regular cafes. But if you're looking for a place to just relax with your favourite book on a cozy couch, sipping into spicy Mango Sambaram, with the owners not waiting to throw you away, then you're at the right place.

PS: All that the Cafe needs to probably look at improving is to have atleast whats in the menu in the kitchen too. There have been times when there's been nothing but Coffee in the kitchen :) I'd still recommend this place to my friends, for their mere hospitality and ambience.
