Review Kaasa Basi - Kochi (Cochin)

Ajith Ravindran (AJ)
Great place. Superb food. At a nice spot in panampilly nagar. From outside it looks small but its a great restaurant with good food
Rajesh Sundaran
One of the best food now in Kochi, every time I visit there I can't never get a bad experience, taste foods with a wide range of verity foods, good service
Dennis Jose
Delicious it is, the food. But very few options to try. The menu is too short. Service is kinda okay. Not much parking space.

Porotta was very good (very crispy as it should be) ... Beef dish's are better than chicken ones...try it the freak shakes over there too 💯

One of the unique biriyani's you can find in the town. Small jeera rice or locally known as 'Kaima Rice' is used for making biriyani here. The biriyani has that authentic flavor which I personally had when I was young. Biriyani and the location is awesome... The way they have setted the restaurant in a dim light mood is perfect for it. Have to find some good service team. We feel like we can have food from there if we like to... They make you feel they are not much interested in people coming in....

This is the best or I say no. 1 restaurant in town where you will get the authentic taste of malabar dishes.

Five star is given for the service provided by the Mr.Rojan. I asked him to choose a dish for me and he took the courtesy to do it. The ambience is normal. Have a few flies inside. Apart from the presence of flies, the room is clean. Wash area also us ok. They do have a bathroom too, but I didn't peep in. Tried 'Mutton Kaal Chuttath' (Mutton leg cooked in fire). The quantity can easily feed 3 to 4 average eaters. Was cooked well too, but may be my flavours are different that I didn't like the dish.

A very nice place to dine with your family and both your friends. The service is quite ok and the juice corner along with it is also very much good. Tip: Fererro Rocher from the Lassi Corner is one of the great smoothies they have

I would recommend this restaurant to non veg lovers. It's really good

I have multiple reviews about this restaurant. Goin for pros first, Food is cheaper. They serve fastly tooo. I have received delicious paneer butter masala from here. Unfortunately the same dish when i ordered last day was full of salt. Cook should atleast taste and see befre serving or packing. The biriyani rice wasn't cooked too.it was half boiled. This happnd only once. I have received really nice biriyani frm here!! I guess it was a bad day fr the cook. Lol

Also, mess with chocolate is a dream dessert every chocolate lover should try. One jar is enough for 4 people atleast!!! Its so yum!!!!

I really like their food. Most of the Curry’s are pretty good comparing to other hotels in panampilly. Beef thenga kothu is good here with porotta. The price is comparatively bit high, but not that high.

The place is good
But the food is not even worth of 1 star.
They should really learn to cook biriyani atleast.
Definitely not worth paying.
Really a mood killer food
The place located at panampilly is pretty good. Their chicken masala ittu varatiyath is a must try with porotta which is succulent and tasty and soft. The place does not charge you much also for the food they provide. Family friendly

Worst place to go. Waiters dont serve. Very arrogant staff and absolutely zero ambience. They dont get want you ordered but instead give what they have and ask us to eat or leave
Sidharth C.R
Just a normal outlet serving very ordinary cuisine. Ordered paneer butter masala which was curdled with tomato sauce and Yemeni biriyani was not quite upto the mark. Overall I would not want to try out a second time.

Food taste is really awesome. No doubt about it. But the quantity is very less and not worth the money we spend. Especially the chilly fish and the mutton curry.

It's just that old wine in a new bottle!
Thakkaram 2.0!
We went there for dinner.
Interior and decor were just fine.
The air-conditioning was poor.
It was good that they had a cradle for our kido.

We ordered hot and sour mutton soup and "aa kozhi porichath" to start off. Soup was fine and kozhi porichath was small crispy chicken pieces, was nothing great.
For mains we had kerala parotta & duck thalappakett. Duck thalappakett was said to be one of their speciality dishes. It was served wrapped in banana leaf and was looking quite tempting. But I must say, it lacked flavour and no where near to be called something "special".

Not sure if I'd visit the place again.. 😐
Kiran Soman , sorry to have suggested this place for a nice weekend dinner.

Had gone here to celebrate my father's birthday. We started with aatin kaalu (goat leg) soup which was good. For main course we had ordered duck thalapakatti which was roasted and with thick gravy served in leaf. It tasted delicious with appam and pathiri. The kaada fry which we ordered came in the end because of which could not enjoy the taste of it after having such an appetizing main course. Had a nice time and enjoyed the dinner here

Loved their chicken biryani which was served with pickle and raita. Mine was a home delivery, so, loved their packaging and service. Would visit again.

The erstwhile Thakkaram now reborn with a new name and some slight modifications in the atmosphere.

The food is the same as before, nothing worth mentioning about.

They have ample parking space available and a great location to be in.

You have a lot of places nearby serving much better food.

Definitely could do more.
Nirmal Justin
Beef roast tasted like it was spoiled..... We told the waiter only to hear the chef say it normally tasted like that... Well if it normally tasted like that then we
wouldn't have gone there a second time and ordered the same thing again for a second time.. Would we? . Coz the first time I went same thing tasted really good. ...

THE BATTLE OF AN OLD WARHORSE WITH A NEW WARRIOR

Venue: Kaasa Basi, Pananmpilly Nagar

Timing: 1:00 PM (Doors open at 12:00 onwards)

Introducing first, from the brown corner, hailing from some broiler farm in Tamil Nadu, weighing in at about 250 grams, entering the ring in brown, is the current super light weight champion of Kerala, “KOZHI PORICHATHU”

Her opponent, from the green corner, hailing from some farm in and around Kuttanad, weighing in at about 500 grams entering the ring in green is the one and only “DUCK THALAPPAKETTU”

And the official for the match is “GHEE RICE” and “BIRIYANI RICE” and assisting them are nice flaky “POROTTAS”.

The venue was packed for lunch probably because the other venues were all shut as it was a holiday. All other ticket holders had opted for viewing the “CHICKEN BIRIYANI” vs “MUTTON BIRIYANI” fight and the organisers tried their maximum to push us for opting for the same by saying other options may be time consuming, but we decided to hold ground and decided to stick with the main bout as mentioned above.

The KOZHI PORICHATHU, (the 1st item on their fry menu, with actually has some other interesting nomenclature for it), served with sliced onions and garnished with curry leaves, was very nice and crispy.

Though the DUCK THALAPPAKETTU sounded good and looked all exciting, as it was like ellayill pollicha duck (first time ever seeing something like that), it was indeed a real battle with the DUCK THALAPPAKETTU, which brought flashes of the scene from the movie Kilukkam, “ഒരു വടി കിട്ടുമോ, ഇതിനെ ഒന്ന് കൊന്ന് തിന്നാന”. The portion served was humongous, probably enough for 4 ordinary mortals with a normal appetite, but the meat was undercooked, and hard to come off.

The main referees GHEE RICE and BIRIYANI RICE did a very below par job, but the assistant referees being the POROTTAS, through their fluffiness and flakiness ensured there was eveness in the battle.

The winner of the duel was easily the KOZHI PORICHATHU.

Tickets for the entire event was @ Rs.800/-.

Overall summary of the highly anticipated match – the old warhorse of Thakkaram is in a new avatar (Kaasa Basi is run by the same management in more or less the same style and set-up, with a new menu). Round 1 was not very impressive. Will definitely need to attend a few more rounds before confirming whether the 2nd avatar is an avatar itself or “old wine in a new bottle”.
