Review Primate Raw Food - Kochi (Cochin)

Very tasty raw food. Had a fruit salad and a pasta made of zucchini. The ground cashew and spices make the food very tasty. Inspired to make these at home. My toddler enjoyed the wooden ambience and fruits.

Have you tried raw vegan food? Primate offers raw vegan delight. Eldho, who runs the first raw vegan restaurant in India took us through a guided philosophy tour about why raw vegan food is the natural food for humans. No cooking, no artificial flavour, no milk products, no meat - pure guilt free stuff. Try a day to see the difference.

Primate is one of those unique places in Cochin where you get delicious salads and desserts which are completely vegan and made out of raw food. Kudos to the Primates team for their excellent treatment of guests and their really wonderful dishes!!

Primate is just awesome. I had been hearing about this restaurant since it was opened in Cochin. But could go there only ystday. A cozy place for all age category. You get everything in veg but RAW. The desserts, soups, salads wowwwww many many more. Can't go without mentioning the pasta and the rolls. It is all the way more nice to speak on the hospitality there. Mr. Eldho hats off to you and your team. Keep it up. We relished on your cuisine.

I dragged my brother to this restaurant with very high expectations after reading many amazing reviews on zomato. The place was deserted when we reached. I have read how some people may not take to the whole raw food idea , but this was horrible. We had this tacos and a burger. The taste was too weird and repulsive. I honestly don’t understand how people can eat this. The dish even didn’t look appetising (Check the photos if you don’t believe me). If raw food is something you’d enjoy then you might disagree with me. Anyway We both struggled to finish both the dishes and I’m sure I can say I don’t care for raw food.

Anils dream and pineapple boat were the dishes we went for after a heavy dinner from Hunters.
The owner was very kind enough to explain to us what the dishes are. Both the dishes were fresh and healthy. The quantity was also good.
I loved the hospitality more than the food.
They also gave us chocolates to taste and comment on. I'll definitely visit again

went their with friends few last year. The menu looked familiar as it contained names like taco, salad etc.. Tried couple of dishes suggested by them. Food was uncooked and included few pastes, But tasted ok. One thing is sure they've definitely researched well. The guy who promised himself as a primate practitioner said he has never been ill since he switched primate.

I came to Primate with my friend to try something completely new. And yes raw food isn't for everyone but all the nice reviews on Zomato left me confused AF. We went on a Sunday and expected a crowded restaurant and it was completely empty. We ordered the Pasta Napolitano and Pineapple Boat. Both left us with bitter experience and a sting in the back of our throats. I mean... How can you screw up pineapple? And the pasta was just a incredibly cringe-y mix of flavors. For such bad tasting food it's definitely overpriced. Maybe it's the particular food we ordered but I'm never going back there again. The only saving grace is the ambience.

Really nice to find things like this in kochi. Raw food actually tastes nice. A really interesting place. Must try the food it's a wonderful experience.

I made a long trip filled with excitement as I am raw food lover but seeing the large restaurant empty on a Sunday afternoon was a bit disheartening. Ordered a tender coconut gazpacho which she had seen a video of the owner making but what came on the table was too spicy. But the manager very sweetly changed it to one without chilli.
The menu is uninteresting with no descriptions and no pictures so for a newbie it just doesn't excite. There are no gourmet dishes like sushi... I feel the menu needs to more interesting and photographs of the dishes essential. Feel it's a wasted opportunity! I mean had the owner been there I would have suggested ten items that can sell well.

This!! This is one place you guys have to check out for sure and I can guarantee that this is will be one of a kind experience!
You may or may not like the food.. But the food is different.. Totally different! They use pure raw things and they don't cook anything. Yes. That's right. They don't Cook. This is the pure raw food at your table. From Chocolate shake to pasta.. ! It was kind of hard for me to get used with the taste at first mainly because I never had raw food like this.
Go and check it out. The host Mr. Eldho Pachilakkadan is one of the best host I ever met.
Fun fact : His daughter of 3 or 5 years ( Forgot the age, sorry! ) never had any cooked food till now. Just veg raw food.!!
Jocelyn Jose
Initially I thought this place was raw-vegan-organic. Turns out it's just raw. If you're a newbie to raw food realm, the food would sure surprise you. It's a refreshing change indeed in Cochin. The food is filling and most of them very tasty.

Do try : the smoothies, fruit raita

Pros : 1. Healthy alternative to the junk we usually eat! 2. Great ambience and concept 3. Good service 4. Tasty food

Cons: 1. Expensive for non-organic food.

I never review restaurants, but I'm beginning to feel like all the really good places, or at least the ones that I find are authentic in that they serve amazing food aren't able to stand the test of time. Not because they aren't good but because people really haven't acquired a taste for them; which is why I find myself responsible thus to write about my experience at all the places to eat that I've come to love so that more people eat there, like them, and hence, they stick around for longer. Primate is one such restaurant. The food is delicious, raw, super healthy, and might I add, incredibly authentic, hearty, ingenious and fulfilling. You go home full and energised. When it comes to the taste of the food, I'd say you can't compare apples and oranges, so comparing a Big Mac and a burger from here would be doing a disservice to each, especially because neither set out to be replacements or substitutes for the other.
So it's quite unfair to crib about lettuce wraps tasting like raw lettuce!
I find the restaurant to be very affordable and hope they last, add more items to their menu, and are able to create a following of patrons, who, like me, value the clean eating lifestyle.
More power to them, and see you next week, Juicy raw burger and strawberry juice!

Ever since i read about Primate, i wanted to pay a visit. The concept was fresh. Raw food. And i tell you, it is wonderful. The people behind the scenes have done a wonderful job setting this up. And going by their words, there are a variety of new dishes coming your way including biriyanis which are uncooked and raw. Eldho Pachilakkadan, the owner was kind enough to explain us the concept and his life experiences and we had a wonderful informative enriching session, to be frank. The food also tasted pretty well to my suprise and over everything, this is one place in Kochi which serves 100% healthy original food ! Do pay a visit and you wont be disappointed :)

Went to this place after reading an article in The Hindu newspaper, its commendable, you wont believe that the food they serves are completely raw, we should give the freedom to our tongue to get into the real beauty of their specialities, would really recommend to each one of you to try this, staffs are like friends and never felt boring being at the best spot of panampilly nagar, beautifully designed interior, nature oriented seatings and lots and lots to describe, a must visit place. Good job team & hope to see more branches of yours and would live to try your biriyani once

My first ever experience with raw food. And I'd say this place is much more than just another eatery.
With all this unhealthy food that we have - most of us are walking talking bodies of sugar, carbs, oil, chemicals - and all things nice and yummy. :D

I mean, really - if it tastes good , you can bet it's unhealthy.

Amidst all this crazy food joint boom that kochi has been experiencing in recent times - I think PRIMATE is a very refreshing and a healthy necessity for the town.

That feel of satisfaction after having some yummy chicken dum biryani - DON'T expect that here.

BUT nevertheless - this is a must-try place to experience a very different and brilliant concept of raw food. Yes. Behold - they say healthy food could be tasty too. And now , having been here - I believe it.

Honestly, Me being a sucker for good old UNhealthy food - wouldn't come here very often - but it's definitely worth visiting once a while to have some refreshing tasty healthy food.

Must mention - Raita. Have it. And then ask them how they made it.

Thanks to Mr. Eldho and Mr. Rakesh for giving us an insight into raw food revolution and what they are trying to sell through this new idea. And also for answering a hundred questions that anyone would have after having heard how they don't use so many things that we can't dream of living without - but still make some amazing food.
Great idea guys.

An amazing new concept brought out by this restaurant. I really loved the "Tropical Fruit Platter with Lemon Sauce". It was simple but I loved the way you've have dressed it. It's a worth coming for the second time.

Primate is a place that is much more than a restaurant that serves food-- it promotes a way of living that is sustainable and ethical. Probably one of the only vegan places in the city, this place has a hipster-ish ambiance. The owner, Mr Eldo was kind enough to engage with me and my friend on the concept of 'raw food' and his motivations behind starting a restaurant like this. The food was delicious and we were convinced about Eldo's assertion that we can live without cooking. We ordered the tender coconut with herbs Gaspatcho, vegetable sticks with hummus and a dish called 'Happy cow' which was basically a taco mimmicked with vegetables. My favourite was the hummus--it was made of seasame and cashews and for me, it tasted much better than the real hummus made of chickpeas. If you are looking for a healthy place to eat, this is where you should be going. It is a big blessing for Kochi!

Superb experience; being a non veg I don't think I'll be going here too often, but once a month or so, everyone should go have some super healthy, organic, veg food unlike anywhere else in India; must try

Me and my friends had a visit at Primate a day ago. We came to know about the place by a news paper and was quite interested and so went for a check in.

The ambiance is something to be really commented up on. The wooden furnitures, that orange plants, lighting, whole place creates a great atmosphere to enjoy what is being served.

We ordered an avocado with ice burg lettuce leaves dressed in cashew mayonnaise (no the actual name) and it almost met our expectations.Primate's concept of using no fire is to be really experienced. Serving raw is really spot on when it comes to taste and flavor.

We were really curious to know more about how Primate manage to serve in raw and we got lucky enough to have the host Mr. Eldo himself to explain it for all of us. Mr. Eldo took us through a lot of thongs which really made us aware why we should eat raw and how Primate brings that taste. He was willing to clear all our queries.
He was really kind enough to give us some cheesecake and chocolate. After having some cheesecake we really wished that we ordered both cheesecake and chocolate at the first time.It was so good.

We were also satisfied with the servicing and we were happy to spend some time with Eldo and Primate.

We are really waiting for Primate to introduce new items to their menu as Eldo had said us and we will surely have a visit again. All vegans Should try out Primate.

I visited Primate a couple of days ago for lunch, having heard that the place has great salads. I was unaware of their concept of raw food. My experience there was however, something different.

Me and my party ordered a trial combo that consisted of desserts, soups and a main course. First look at the menu and everything looked fairly familiar, like cheesecake and tacos. The description was intriguing though for ex. the tortillas had beet and not beef and the cheesecake did not really have any cheese.

Dessert was served first, and included small portions of 3 of their desserts including the cheesecake.

This was followed by cold soups, i don’t particularly recall their names and then the main course.

I wasn’t particularly impressed by the tastes, although I think its acquired. (Their menu is temporary and evolving.) One of its kind in Kochi, this place is a must visit for the vegans.

Loved the ambiance and the decor and the fact that the host cared to explain the whole concept to us. Service was not bad either.

Overall, its a different kind of experience one must try.

STAFF SMOKING!!

On behalf of my Wife Aditi (in her words) - I visited this restaurant Primate on Sunday evening 18 of September with my 8 month old and 4 year old. Great decor, cool feel, nice menu. We knew it's fruit only, and being avid fruit eaters we were really looking forward to our platter. It took 45 minutes though, for our plate of cut fruit to be served to us...a bit of a surprise considering we were the only customers. The first plate that arrived had two bananas halved with a chia museli sprinkled on top. Normally we would have relished this healthy snack but waiting that long had just spoilt our appetites.

Why did it take so long, was it the cutting of the banana or the messy plating, or maybe it was a case of too many cooks because we could see everyone helping the cook plate our order...?

As we waited for the next dish (English fruit platter with raw chocolate dipping sauce), my son asked to use the toilet. With baby on one arm, I led him to the restroom only to find it was occupied by one of the waiters. He had gone in to smoke a cigarette!!!
The other waiter asked us to wait "aal ondu" ...Not only did we have to wait until he leisurely finished (no apology from the man), but we had to step into a smoke filled restroom... I'll spare you the details of the dirty closet...

By this time, I was ready to leave but our second dish arrived... Again cut fruit with chocolate sauce dribbled all over...WHAT!!NO DIP??? Tell that to a 4 yr old who's waited 45 minutes!

How disappointing!!!

When I asked for the dipping sauce, the smoker obliged, thank goodness, otherwise I would have left without paying.

We tasted our cut fruit and gave up because the dip was too watery to dip into and then made haste to leave. By this time some men were climbing out of the windows and making a lot of noise near the door.

But this time I was not surprised...

This place just reeked of unprofessionalism.

Is this some kind of joke, this whole "Primate" thing?
I might have laughed, except I had to take little baby and his brother into the smoke filled restroom.

It's really a shame, for all their lofty claims the owners are not present to ensure that their restaurant's quality doesn't fall below standard. Not this early anyway... It's just been two weeks since it opened!

11/09/2016
Was interested in the concept since start and I am really happy to have made it to Primate. The menu is temporary and evolving. I seem to have had all my stars grouped up in their luckiest locations today, to have tasted a couple of their experimental dishes. The tried and tested Mango Chia Pudding is beautiful ensemble of perfect taste, texture and colour. Also the experimental coūple, a chia based sweet red pudding and a Iceberg wrapped salad made sure I asked for more. The potions are light but filling and healthy. In my foodgasm I absolutely forgot to take any picture of the food. Shall be visiting soon though :D
Ps. I hope they name the salad soon, can't wait to have it again.

25/09/2016
I think I'm in love with the place :D
