Review 6 Ballygunge Place - Kolkata (Calcutta)

This place is evergreen with their quality food and top notch service. They have an aesthetic ambience, with cozy interiors reflecting the Bengals culture. Food quality is constant since the last few years, but the quantity in the a la carte menu has decreased. Hospitality is commendable.

Came to Kolkata during Durga Puja after 8 years . Wanted to try Bengali authentic cuisine. Reserved our table in advance and had no wait at all . The menu on the buffet was well chosen , from starters to dessert , everything was delicious. We also ordered Hilsa fish from Ala carte option . I will highly recommend this place . All our servers were attentive and cared about our experience

A must try restaurant if you are visiting Kolkata to indulge in the savoury flavours of authentic bengali cuisine. Expect a few minutes of waiting time, however the wait is worth it. The food menu is little on the expensive side.

We decided to celebrate the New Year with a sumptuous lunch at 6- Ballygunge Place, one of the finest restaurants in Kolkata. We were a family of seven, and we were warmly welcomed by Chef Sushanta Sengupta, who is a friend of ours and a perfect gentleman. He ensured that we had a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. The food was simply superb, with a variety of dishes that showcased the best of Bengali cuisine. We started with mutton chops and 'Bak' phool bhaja, which were crispy and tender. Then we had chicken gondhoraj fries, which were spicy and tangy, with a hint of the aromatic gondhoraj lemon. The main course was Chetal macher muitha, Kosha mangsho, a rich and succulent mutton curry, and radhaballabhi with chola dal, a stuffed puri with a sweet and spicy lentil accompaniment. We also had rice and some refreshing drinks, such as 'Debi Chaudhurani', a virgin mojito with a twist, and 'Gondhoraj Ghol', a yogurt-based drink with Gondhoraj lemon and mint. To end the meal on a sweet note, we were offered sweet curd and patishapta, a traditional Bengali dessert of thin crepes filled with coconut and jaggery, as a complimentary gesture from the chef. The service was impeccable, with Sujon Bannerjee, the host and server, being attentive and courteous. He guided us through the menu and suggested the dishes that suited our preferences and palates. He also checked on us frequently and made sure that we had everything we needed. We had a wonderful time at 6- Ballygunge Place, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Kolkata. The food, the ambiance, the service, and the hospitality were all top-notch, and we left with a smile on our faces and a satisfaction in our hearts. 😊 Mrs S.Sinha

6 Ballygunge Place in the heart of Kolkata is an absolute must-visit for those craving authentic Bengali food. The heavenly taste of dishes like Ilish and Mutton Kosha, paired with exceptional service, made our brief layover memorable. I'm glad I chose this gem to satisfy my mom's craving during our 9-hour layover on the way to Bangkok from Siliguri. Thank you, Ballygunge Place, for a truly satisfying experience!

Thus is the place to have ethnic veg and non veg food. Right from the starters to main food including fish and prawn were outstanding. The service was 10/10. The staff very courteous. Don't forget to have Mishthi Dahi and Baked rasgullah aa grand finale

We went to the banquet hall The resturant is also very well decorated and looks beautiful Atmosphere is soothing Food quality is ok Service seems fine Parking has to be done on roads which maybe be frustrating on weekends Banquet place is ok for 40-50 people Lift not available

If you want to taste authentic Bengali food this is the right place, beautiful decor it gives you old era vibe. You can try buffet or A la Carte but I will suggest to try buffet if you are visiting this place during weekend as it takes long for your order to come. It is expensive place but worth it. Will come again

They have a awesome collection of Bengali dishes. I dish i like the most is bhekti paturi. And the also serve us a wonderful and mouthwatering desert at the end of the buffet.

Gondhoraj chicken starter was not great in the sense that flavour of gondhoraj lebu wasn't there as much. All the items are highly overpriced. . Good thing is that they are providing sanitiser outside & temp checks been performed. Staffs are masked. Plates are disposable & that too they are bringing covered with cellophane paper. Unfortunately Hygiene charges they are collecting from<br/> customers only. ₹50 per person inspite of having exorbitant prices of items. If you are rich, you can definitely enjoy dining there.

We Bengali’s are “Bhojon Roshiks”, i.e., foodies by heart, and we love our traditional cuisine from the core of our hearts. We believe that true Bengali food can only be made in Bengali homes. But we too get tired of eating at home especially after this lockdown phase of our life.<br/>So, if you’re thinking of eating out and preferring Bengali cuisine this is the right place to go to. 6 Ballygunge Place, is like the king of Bengali cuisine restaurants in Kolkata. Each and every dish will make explosions of flavors inside your mouth. Oh, the smell, the aroma, the fragrance, will leave you mesmerized.<br/>I went to this amazing place right before the lockdown in the month of February on my parent's anniversary for a sumptuous Bengali meal and what a delight that was!<br/>We ordered the following items off the menu:<br/>Dab Chingri: Prawns roasted inside a tender coconut. This was pretty nice. It’s a side dish to go along with white plain rice.<br/>Kasha Mangsho: The traditional home-cooked mutton recipe. The mutton pieces were very tender along with the perfect amount of fat. Yes, we love the fat xD<br/>Bhuna Mangsho: Another mutton recipe, and this one I would highly recommend. It was so tasty that it would just water your mouth as soon as it arrives on your table. The spices used in this are very well cooked and the aroma will keep you stuffing it in your mouth.<br/>Basanti Pulao: The perfect accompaniment with the other items we ordered.<br/>Now in the deserts section:<br/>Mishti Doi: The best way to end your meal. A perfect Bengali dessert.<br/>Indrani: This was small cottage cheese balls, rosogollas in thickened milk topped with dry fruits. This was so so. I would prefer rosomalai over this.<br/>Baked Mihidana with Rabdi: Oh, this was indeed the showstopper. A highly recommended dessert item that will keep you asking for more!<br/><br/>A perfect place to have a tasty Bengali meal with your family and friends and believe me this place won’t disappoint you at all. And yes, they also had buffet service available earlier but due to the pandemic, it might be suspended for the current time. You can always call them up and enquire and they’ll assist you happily.<br/><br/><br/>

Due to corona pandemic the presentation has to suffer a lot. However the dab chingri too wasn't served in a dab which is really disappointing knowing the fact that corona virus doesn't spread from food and the coconut itself being a biological product it's definitely wasn't going to be reused so this arouse the doubt that dab chingri isn't cooked inside a coconut. That's fine because no matter what it tastes awesome. The price is a bit over budget but when it comes to taste, everything soothes you. <br/>

I took the non veg buffet for 800... Trust me I found it over rated and food was just okayish... The thing which really dissapointed me is the sanitization process... There are several vlog claiming they 6 ballygung place is maintaining high level of sanitization process but it's not true.. no shoe cover were over, no disposable place where given in the buffet, the tables were place very close to each other... Highly dissatisfied both with the food and safety measures...

6 Ballygunge Place, is a Resturant which was on my bucket list for a long long time. Staying outside Kolkata, was making it difficult, but amidst all this Pandemic, the Mahalaya was a perfect day to hop in to enjoy their Mahalaya Buffet..!! 🤤😋😊<br/><br/>Ambience - 5/5<br/>Food Quality - 4.5/5 <br/>Taste - 4.5/5<br/>Variations - 5/5<br/>Cost - 5/5<br/>Service - 5/5<br/><br/>The Buffet cost was Rs 840 including Tax, and if you're a Foodie that too have craving for Bengali Cuisine, you are at the right place. Every single item had its own unique authentic taste. <br/>Personally Loved the Aam Pora Sorbot, Bhuna Chingri, Doi Murgi, Magshor Jhol, Pantua and Misti Doi...😍<br/>Must place to visit if you are Food Junkie, I am sure you won't be disappointed...!! 😊

I ordered food through Zomato App as always. But on 17.09.2020 all the items I tasted as not up to the mark.I didn't found the taste of the food items like I always did viz Kasha Mangso. Even Fish fry was totally cold. Begun Basanti was full of sour taste. Potoler dorma taste was also very bad & full of just oil,Why I don't know!! if it was for Mahalaya or Biswakarma Pujo rush or might be intoxicated master chef just totally wasted the good will.

It was Mahalaya and my birthday as well when I decided to try out Mochar Ghonto and Chitol macher muitha for lunch. The Mochar Ghonto was delicious , it was soft, well cooked and spicy having been cooked using the best banana fruit. Now comes the interesting part of the review. Due to unusual rush, the restaurant ended up delivering Potoler Dolma instead of Chitol Muitha. When I called the restaurant to inform them about the matter, they sincerely apologized and requested me to enjoy the Dolma as a gift. They also promised to deliver the Muitha as soon as they could which they did in quick time. This was an extremely generous gesture by the restaurant considering the tough covid times that the hospitality industry is going through. Both Potoler Dolma and the Muitha were cooked using the same style but tasted awesome. The Parwal stuffing tasted awesome while the Muitha was soft and juicy. 6 Ballygunge Place, you have completely bowled me over and I promise to come back here with family n friends .

what to say about this place?? It must be any bengali's favourite food destination. I went there on 1st Jan 2020. They were having buffet. It was awesome..right from the mocktail to dessert everything was too good. They also serve bhapa doi which i find awesome.

6 Ballygunge Place is a restaurant that had been on our bucket list for a very long time indeed, since our school days (around 2007-2008). That does have something to do with the restaurant being in the neighbourhood of my school (South Point High). Anyway we finally managed to go here post-lockdown. After the usual act of going through the temperature checks and hand sanitizing, and the somewhat unusual act of tackling the automated shoe-cover machine (much enjoyable, although my companion would disagree), we were seated in the waiting area for a short while as our table was being made ready to sit at. We also got the food menus during this time. The staff were courteous and polite in their behaviour and the ambience of the place was also lovely. The place had minimalistic deco in both the waiting area and the dining room, which looked pleasant, however the hand drawn fans that are used for deco can probably use a dusting. After being seated at our table, we placed our order which was gondhoraj chicken, rice, chhanar dalna, daab chingri and pabda jhal. Before long we got our sets of disposable plates and cutlery, and I must say this is the best set of disposable plates that I have received after the lock-down. The service was good and prompt. Coming to the food, I feel it is best to describe each dish individually. The gondhoraj chicken was absolutely delicious. The long, succulent chicken strips were perfectly juicy and had the wonderful coating giving them such a wonderful frangrance and taste. The rice was very slightly over boiled. The rice grains themselves were moderately long, I would have liked them to be slightly longer and to not have clumped together. For the price they are charging, the rice is expected to be better. The chhanar dalna was good but I would have appreciated if the gravy had been simmered for a slightly longer period than it was. They got the sweetness of the individual balls of chhana absolutely on point. The daab chingri was delicious and the gravy tasted even better when some gondhoraj was added to the gravy mixed with rice. The pabda jhal was great, I finally got my ghoti companion to try out pabda jhal with shorshe and she absolutely loved the fish (obviously, who does not love pabda?) but failed to acknowledge that the shorshe could have been a bit more strong (again obvious, since when do ghotis acknowledge the awesomeness of shorshe?). After this we ordered bhapa doi for dessert and it was an absolute treat and a must try for all who visit this place. All in all it was a great lunch and we will definitely go back to try out more dishes from here.

6 Ballygunge never disappoints. Went after very long for dinner. The place was relatively vacant but still every hygienic measure was taken by the management (They charge you ₹50 extra per person as hygiene charges).<br/>The food was as good as ever. Ilish bhapa tasted very fresh and delicious. Staff was also taking absolute care while serving food.

If you want the best of Bengali food, just head out to the nearest 6 ballygunge place, a restaurant which is known for its authentic Bengali menu and quality of food. Try booking in advance as there will be quite a rush. <br/>1. Fish Kabiraji : Ordered this as Fish roll was not available, which was my original preference. Fish fillet covered in egg and deep fried with a cover of fluffy egg fritters, quite filling and yummy. <br/>2. Gondhoraj chicken : strips of chicken with lime zest and lemongrass, a personal favorite. Absolutely delicious and recommended. Do not miss this. <br/>3. Kaju kismish pulao : a sweet pulao with cashews and raisin. A good pairing with rich gravies. <br/>4. Kakdar jhal : a whole crab in a thick spicy masala curry. Although a whole lot effort goes in eating it, it's worth the effort. <br/>5. Dhakai pora mangsho : mutton cooked to absolute tenderness in a dark brown rich gravy which is absolutely mouthwatering. <br/>6. Indrani : a upgraded version of Malaiguti, a good one at that too. A good end to a great meal. <br/>Ambience: old Bengali style mansion and decor from the Zamindari era. <br/>Pocket pinch : 2100 for two. A bit on the higher side but worth it.

Went there for Anniversary Lunch. Food was not upto the mark. Visited this place so many times but this time it dissapointed me. Specially daab chingri. Yes!!. Daab Chingri flavour had nothing to do with daab. Overall will wait till their food gets back on track again!!<br/><br/>Cheers!<br/>All the Best.!

6th Ballygunge Place is one of the best Bengali restaurants in town. The foods are very tasty. Though the price is bit high, but it's worth it and the ambiance is very friendly. And the stuffs are very polite too. <br/>Must try here Mutton Gravy, Chicken kosha, Bhetki Paturi. ❤️

It’s a complete 5/5. Undoubtedly the best place for comfort Bengali food. The luchi served here, reminds me of home.

6 Ballygunge Place is at the heart of every Bengali living in each and corner of the world. This review I am writing for my friends and followers outside Kolkata. It is a must-go place if you are in Kolkata and looking for authentic Bengali Cuisine food, more so if you are in the City of Joy during Durgapuja time (the biggest carnival of India). During each Durgapuja they offer a special buffet for 5 days and a special menu is there for each day. Now I am going to write about my 2016 Durgapujo Saptami Lunch experience here. So amid train-metro debacle as well as heavy rain, our pandal hopping was cut short and at 3 pm we decided to go to 6BP. Our all hopes were dashed by a big queue but the staff ensured us of places. Finally, after waiting for 45 minutes we got in. We had Luchi (Poori made of Maida), Brinjal Fry, Fish fry (bhetki crumb fried), Pulao, Mutton Kosha (mutton in a thick gravy), Large prawns, Chutney & Papad, Sweets. The best part was unlimited mutton and prawns. The food was mindblowing, am short of words. The highest standards were maintained for cleanliness amid so much crowd, so the staff was super-efficient. The only complaint from my side is, the seating place should be more spacious to accommodate a large number of people. <br/>Food - 10/10<br/>Ambiance - 8/10<br/>Service - 9/10<br/>Value for Money - 8/10<br/>

Baked Mihidana with Rabdi (5/5) - Mihidana in the intense milky flavour of Rabdi is the perfect desert for all the sweet lovers. The speckles of sweet mihidana has the charming aroma of cardamom in it and finally garnished with almond, saffron and pista, resulting in a burst of flavours and textures in every bite.<br/>.<br/>.<br/>Chhanar Malpua (4.5/5) - ‘Malpua’ is one of the popular Indian sweets. These are like sweet mini pancakes, fried until golden brown and then dipped in sugar syrup, garnished with almonds and pista. Now Channar Malpua is much more softer in texture than the ordinary Malpua and tastes even better.<br/>.<br/>.<br/>Indrani (5/5) - Indrani is an extremely delicious & rich milk based dessert. It has pre-cooked small cheese balls which are then cooked in Rabdi and finally garnished with pista, almonds and pomegranate pearls on top. It is extremly tasty and the sweetness of the dish is perfectly balanced.<br/>.

Horrible customer service.ordered at 1 pm and had to cancel order at 4 pm after calling repeatedly and being ignored repeatedly...everytime i called they kept telling me more 20 mins for 3 hours after which they stopped picking up my calls...this kind of behaviour is insulting and demeaning to the customer and should not be tolerated...this will be the last time i order from this restuarant....if any of you have faced such behaviour from this establishment please share.

We had ordered delivery from this place. The fosh fry was really good although it wasn't as crispy because it was delivery. Of we had it hot, right after it was fried, it would have been better. The ghondo raj chicken strips was ok, bit again it wasn't as crispy because we had it delivered. There was enough chicken for two people to share though. The mutton kosha was good. Quite rich, but very tasty and good quantity for two people easily. The kaju kishmish pulao was average and one plate was enough for two people. Delivery charges and overall price of food was quite high Overall: <br/>Price to food ratio: 2/5 <br/>Food taste: 3/5<br/>Food quantity: 5/5<br/>Delivery time: 4/5

This place has been on my wishlist since ages and suddenly last week we happened to have a official lunch here.<br/>We were four of us and opted for their regular buffet.<br/>It had parse fish, mutton and chicken in the non veg main course.<br/>Fulko luchi along with cholar Dal,alur dum and long begun bhaja is a match made in food heaven.<br/>Followed by basmati rice, dhokar dalna, parse sorse, chicken curry and Morich mangsho....it was already a burst of flavours in my mouth. The fish was exceptionally good and the chicken and Mutton both were very succulent and mildly spiced.<br/>Then we ended the meal with gulab jamun, chutney and mishti doi.<br/>The dried paan they serve as mouth freshener is really awesome.<br/>Our bill was around 3k which was okay considering the quality of the food.<br/>The decor is very Royal and the service was promt.

We went to this place on a weekday for a lunch buffet. Per head cost was INR 720. Food was amazing. Have never had such delicious main course before. Some notable mentions are mutton curry, luchi, kofta, saag, aloo dum, chicken kasha and one fish(did not understand what fish it was). All the dishes were superbly cooked and served. Staffs were courteous and ambience is awesome.

"মন ভরে খাও বঙ্গবাসী"<br/><br/>I think this line is appropriate for this place. Honestly speaking, words fall short to tell something about this place. We all bengali people, whatever we like to eat in restaurant, to us, bengali food is the ultimate love. And this place is just a heaven for bengali foods. So let's talk about some points:<br/><br/>1. Ambience: this place is really well decorated which is carrying our tradition. Each and every corner of this place is mind blowing. Huge area. In this case, 5 stars out of 5.<br/><br/>2. Food: well, we went for the Bengali buffet. I am sure no other bengali restaurant can present every dish in such way. All the items were so good. I am not doing mention particularly. Not so spicy, but tasty, that I found here. In case of food, I can give them infinity stars to them.<br/><br/>Price: since, we went there to have buffet, hence the price was around 900 rupees, including tax. Compare to the food quality and ambience, this price is really reasonable. So, no extra price they are charging.<br/><br/>Overall my experience is great!! I am sure that I will go again definitely. It is a great place to have a lunch with your friends or family or someone special. Then why are you waiting for?? 😏

Loved the food. Fish fry was really good. The bhetki fry was tender and the best was the dhaniya chicken. The Ambience is good . The service was prompt. The postor Bora was tasty and the nolen gur icre cream was a cherry on top .

I went with my friend and we ordered 1. Prawn pulao 2. Bhetki paturi 3. Bhapa Ilish 4. Plain Rice. And in dessert we had ordered nolen gur ice cream and daab sandesh.<br/><br/>Well to start with i would like to say that the staff were very nice and very courteous and made us feel comfortable<br/><br/>As far as food is concerned bhetki paturi was very tasty. However i was disappointed with Prawn Pulao and Bhapa Ilish.. Prawn pulao was not tasty and bhapa ilish was under cooked. Prawn pulao could be better and since it is my favourite dish i have many better experiences than this prawn pulao.<br/><br/>Nolen gur icecream was awesome and daab sandesh was also very tasty.<br/><br/>Overall i am happy with the outing though i would like the management of the restaurant to improve the taste of prawn pulao as i am eager to visit it very soon to taste the prawn pulao.<br/><br/>Cheers!!!

Advised by a friend to try this restaurant. It was a public holiday and so there was a bit of queue waiting for a table. The wait was absolutely worth it. The food served in the buffet was flavourful and scrumptious. The deserts were exceptional and peculiar to West Bangal. We had one vegetarian in our group and the staff went out of their way to provide him more choices. Overall had a delightful meal and experience

This place is amongst the top 50 restaurants in India as voted by Conde Naste Travellers award. They are known for their traditional Bengali cuisine and is located at the address which Christens itself and have expanded to three more outlets. The entrance was inviting as it was housed in a Bungalow thus does not give you a restaurant feel- in a good way and feel warmer and relaxed. The traditional hand fans adorn the walls and there is a large one which hangs above the lobby. There was a buffet too, but the spread is too small to do justice to our tasting venture. Since we were a large group, we went for the Ala carte and ordered most of the dishes that were popular : Gondhoraj chicken - the gondhoraj lemon element was missing and it was just plain limp soft fried chicken strips with green chili batter. Next came the Prawn Cutlet which was good and I would say the mustard dip comes to the rescue, to the otherwise flat flavour. The fish Kabiraji was an interesting but was too oily to enjoy the dish. For the Mains, stuck to the regular, Kosha Mangsho - the mutton was well cooked but too bony and was on the saltier side. The Doi Murg did not seem to have any added yoghurt and the chicken was too chewy to enjoy! The Dab Chingri was the only dish that lived upto the expectation. The prawns were well cooked and the flavours were spot on with a hint of turmeric, curd and subtle tender coconut flavour, all in all a very well executed dish. The mains were accompanied with Chholar Dal - too sweet for my liking, Luchi and Radhabhallavi - Both of which were good but Luchi could have had a more flakier texture. The service was prompt and courteous although I guess they were not prepped for attending to ala carte tables as there were no cutleries provided even until the 3rd appetiser had come. The pricing was nominal which was roughly 950 including taxes.

This restaurant is located in 6 Ballygunge place itself. Hence, the name. The outer appearance gives you a traditional Bangaliyana look. This place is famous for its Bengali cuisine so starting from the outer appearance, foods, service, ambience, everything gives you bangaliyana feeling. After entering the restaurant, I felt as if I came into a Rajmahal. A total traditional Bengali ambience with a piece of Bengali music playing on the background. Beautiful decorations. Beautiful ambience. Loved the place so much. The staffs are so helpful and polite. They maintain proper hygiene. Their chair-table arrangements are mesmerizing. On the table, you will see there is a sanitizer and lemon-chilli served along with salt and beautifully decorated plates. Yes, the prices are a bit expensive but obviously, if you want awesome Bengali foods then the money is worth it. The foods are too good at quality-wise and quantity-wise. I went there on Christmas and they had Christmas special buffet. There are two floors in the restaurant. You can avail a buffet or a la carte, whichever you like. Their washroom is so beautifully decorated. The servicing is really good. In every way, I liked their restaurant so much. When it comes to having delicious Bengali foods, I would totally recommend you guys to visit here.<br/><br/>Buffet : (Christmas Special)<br/><br/>Drink: 1. Rose Syrup.<br/><br/>Main Course: 2. Visited this place a few days back..I love this place..Its basically a bengali cuisine..Though I was full bt I can't resist myself to eat this.Ambiance was nice it look like a pure 'bengaliana' style as it should be.staffs are polite & friendly they help to decided our menu because we were little confused. We orderd-<br/><br/>HASER DIMER DEVIL 5/5 wow just mouthwatering..it stuffed with mutton minced which enhance its taste more.<br/>Karaisuti kachuri 4/5 'fulko luchi' stuffed with peas nd grind masala tasted nice.<br/>Steam rice 5/5 according to price I think quantity is very low..If you r hungry I dnt think one plate rice is enough for one person.<br/><br/>Pabda sorse 4/5 well cooked..fish was also fresh..I love sorse bata tasted nice.<br/><br/>Mangsher jhol 3/5 Though 4 chunky pieces of mutton they served bt it was very hard and chewy ..It would have been better if they boiled mutton properly.<br/>apart from this I love all items and enjoyed though all over.our total bill 1293/- incl gst.next time we will go and try their buffet as well.please make sure to book your table before you go.otherwise you have to wait for long to get a seat.😊

We opted for a la carte with luchi, chholar dal, basanti pulao, rice, mocktails, gondhoraj chicken, machher matha diye mug dal, aloo bhaja, bhetki paturi, dab chingri, dhakai pora mangsho. Dessert was left for last. The mutton was hard so they opted to change it. Took over 30 minutes and then too the mutton had goat hair on it. They opted to change again but we were too tired to wait longer so went along with the good. The staff made it up by giving us dessert on the house. In a nutshell, average food and courteous staff

I have been thrice. Ala carte for the first time and buffet for the next two times. Undoubtedly one of the best places in Kolkata that serves Bengali food. I particularly love their Fish Fry, Paturi, Gondhoraj Chicken, Dhakai Pora Mangsho etc. I hope to keep coming back here again.

It was so disappointing to have Christmas lunch today at this restaurant. There was only buffet and that too for RS 1200 per head. We were three of us and all of felt that the food was not upto the mark and the pricing was exhorbitant for the food they served. Didnt deserve even RS 300 per head. I would not advise anyone to go to this place .

One of the most famous Bengali restaurants in Kolkata.<br/>This places serves Bengali cuisine at a very affordable rate. The ambience is pretty decent. The place can accommodate almost 50people at once. This place is almost like a fine dining restaurant but not that expensive.Coming to food, you can either opt for Ala-Carte or their famous thalis or for their buffet.I opted for the buffet. It was typical Bengali dinner,The buffet had:<br/>1)Luchi,Fulkopir Torkari,Aloo r Dum<br/>2)Bhetki maach er paturi(highly recommended)<br/>3)Gondhoraj Chicken(Starter)<br/>4)Potol Bhaja<br/>5)Steamed Rice<br/>6)Moong Daal<br/>7)Subz Pulao<br/>8)Mangshor Jhol(Mutton)<br/>9)Doi Murgir jhol <br/>10)Chatni & Papad<br/>11)Misti Doi(Sweet Curd)<br/>12)Nolen Gur er Rosogolla.<br/>I would also recommend you to try out their ‘Gondhoraj Ghol’ which is not included in their buffet but it will imcrease you appetite to eat. Also,I’ll be back hear to try their thali & A-la-carte soon. :)

6 Ballygunge Place - 4/5<br/><br/>6 Ballygunge place was perhaps the best thing about my Kolkata stint (witnessing a match at Edens would have definitely topped it). Its the place to be - at least for a non-Bengali like me to appreciate and celebrate Bengali and Bangladeshi cuisine. <br/><br/>After spending almost 10 mins thinking about what should we go for - A-la-carte or buffet, we took the hard decision of opting the former one. Justification? The top dishes which were suggested by different people and Zomato were missing in the buffet spread. <br/><br/>Also, make sure you book a table beforehand because we had to wait for around 15 minutes before getting our table. Meanwhile, we gulped a few glasses of Thanda lemur sherbet. <br/><br/>The setup of the place was really cool. Functioning as a restaurant converted from a bungalow (I am guessing that), it had elements that spelt vintage to us. It had a certain character in a similar manner the way Kolkata has it. <br/><br/>Fried Fish - Trying a city’s famous street snack in an airconditioned space minus the hustle could have dwindled its joy but this dish transcended space. This spice-filled bread crumb coated crispy fish fillet i.e. Bhetki mach was an absolute joy. The mustard sauce dip elevated the entire experience. At the expense of missing out another dish, we repeated our order.<br/><br/>Gondhoraj Chicken - Having no clue about this dish, we tried this on the waiter's recommendation. And it was a complete surprise package. The shredded chicken oozed an outburst of flavours and the zing of the lime stood out for me. Please don't skip it. <br/><br/>Bhetki Paturi - It is a traditional preparation which involves wrapping a bhetki mach in banana leaf. The pungent taste of mustard worked beautifully here. We were suggested to try it with steamed rice. Though the combination was good, I felt it was comparatively dry to try it out with rice. Nevertheless, an amazing dish. <br/><br/>Hongshoraaj - A mango drink with ginger and mint. Sounds interesting? Tastes amazing.<br/><br/>Mishti Doi - Hands down the best Mishti Doi I have ever tried. And I believe it's tough to beat this one.<br/><br/>. . .<br/><br/>In the end, the only regret I had was not having a big enough appetite to try out a couple of more dishes. Maybe next time. Maybe never. Good memories will keep fermenting in my mind until then.

An exquisite place to have a perfect evening, be it a family dinner or hangout with friends. The ambience is very inviting, and the service was just excellent. The food was good as well, the starters were delicious. The Prawn cutlet is a must try. Really enjoyed my time there 👍

One of my favourite places for dinner! This place serves authentic bengali food and the ambience goes nicely with the decor and the spread that this place offers. My all time favourite is mutton kosha and kishmis pulao. For starters I always go for dimer devil. Their aam pora shorbot and channar malpua are good too! A great place for family outing! What can one say about this place. It’s an institution. Every single dish we ordered was beyond our expectations. Right from the crab to even the simple potato sticks. Everything was top of the line. I really liked the mocktail with the chili in it. The staff was quite pleasant as well. All in all, if I lived in Kolkata, this is a place I would frequent for sure!

Food was really very good, but the staff service was very bad.We opted for non veg buffet and they said that it had self service, but we requested that since we have elderly people with us, it would be nice if they could serve the food for them atleast. The waiter, he denied and started blabbering that this was our first time, thats why we dont know abt this self service and all...let me remind you then "first impression lasts longer" it is not about first time or 2nd time it is the way you treat your customers. It felt really awkward that the waiters were standing and staring at us while we were eating and the elderly members of our family had to get up several times to get the food.<br/>Anyways food quality and presentation was really good, I have no complains with that.

Heard a lot about this place and ordered lalmrgi and luchi. though the portion is enough for two the test was pathetic and the chicken was hard and not at all fresh one.

This was my 4th time visit in this place. But this time I'm disappointed with their attitude. While we are having chingri, they put the bill on our table just because many people were waiting outside . As it's Sunday, crowd was very normal but that doesn't mean they will bring the bill before you finish your food.<br/><br/>I never have had this experience before and from now on I would think twice to visit this restaurant.

Okay, so I know, places like this I am supposed to expect quality over quantity, and thats what it was. Other than their serving of Steamed Rice, it was pretty much that. However I went there with my partner, excited to try out a couple of dishes that this place is famous for, namely, gondhoraj chicken and dab chingri. While the latter had the best cooked prawns we had ever tasted, the former, though lemony in flavour lacked the flavour punch we had hoped for. It was certainly good, but nothing special. We also had bhuna chicken and a couple of drinks from their elaborate menu, and none of them were bad, per se, but none made us go "WOW", either. All in all, a good place to eat, though nothing too fantastic. Could be much better.

Good place if you like to eat Bengali cuisine. The buffet menu doesn't have a huge list of food to offer. However, the small menu has great dishes starting with duck bungalow mutton, chicken, prawn, bhapa bhetki paturi to misti doi and malpoa. <br/><br/>Cons are: <br/>They do not have any sitting arrangements for toddlers. <br/>No high chairs. <br/>The first-floor ambiance is not maintained properly. We visited on a rainy day, and water was coming from the window.
Payel Biswas
The best place to take out your family for a lunch or dinner outing. The buffet is sumptuous and delicious. The day I visited the buffet menu had <br/>murg pulao, <br/>mutton Bhuna , <br/>bhetki Paturi, <br/>luchi, <br/>alur dom, <br/>dhokar dalna, <br/>daal, <br/>Plain rice,<br/>kumro bharta and <br/>mishti doi. Very pocket friendly. Must visit for everyone who loves bengali cuisine.
