Review Mainland China - Kolkata (Calcutta)

J Moner Koner Baire Achyut.
Visited this place for an office get together with colleagues. They arranged a separate enclosure for our team of 20 people. The environment is cozy and staff are extremely helpful. They served us the starters and mocktail in the table and we kept ordering to serve the starters repeatedly. They served us with extremely polite gesture. The starters were warm, crispy, spicy and delicious. Chicken and fishes in different sauces were served in starter. The main course was also huge. From different chicken fish crab and prawn items in different gravy were served. Being a fan of starter, we were mostly full with the starters. After spending some time with main course, shifted to the colorful dessert platters. At last they served the complimentary cokes and we left the premises burping with lots of good memories.

Loved the place. A true authentic Chinese restaurant in Kolkata. Touches of Chinese tradition and culture in the ambience inside the restaurant. And talking about the food, the taste and quality were too good. The buffet is recommended, as it have a lot of variety in foods in all sections, starters, main course and deserts. The price was also reasonable.

I chose this place over the Spring Club outlet (which is closer to my home) just because I never visited here and it was the first Mainland China in town and got praised on The Telegraph back then. They had a huge rush and maybe because it was a weekend. I went to celebrate my Anniversary. The staff were as polite as always but they were definitely in hurry. The toilet is bit smaller compared to the restaurant guest capacity but ambiance was good as always. For some reason I did not feel that awe factor about the food. The menu got changed from 2019 and I must say it was better back then. The menu they have now is quite obvious and almost available elsewhere. We ordered duck in plum sauce, sichuan numbing chicken, fried Calamari, prawn sui mai, mixed rice noodle and hot garlic lamb in the main course. The sichuan numbing chicken was not numbing or spicy at all. Duck was really nice and so was the lamb. Noodle was good but may be I had a high expectation from mainland China. I wish they bring back the pitcher option for mocktails like before.

One of the best Indo-Chinese restaurants I've ever had. Each and every dish I've had was top-notch. Besides, the waiters were so hospitable that they gave us a complimentary birthday cake for my friend since I was celebrating her pre-birthday celebration. The dimsums were my favourite out of the lot. Besides, the fried rice, noodles, a preparation of fish and chicken (which I'm not able to recall at the moment) were amazing too!

The food tastes good and different compared to the so called Chinese dishes we get in other places. The prices are a bit high but it's reasonably good with the volume. You can customise a dish the way you want. If you are unsure of the menu the manager will help you in choosing the right one. Beers are only available in pint. Ambiance is good but people around you will behave so called posh and will speak unnecessary English which makes the ambiance damn serious with their grumpy faces.

Had an amazing lunch buffet at rs 745 yesterday This is one of the longest buffet I have had And it is available on Tuesday and Thursday Lunch time only on this outlet The food we had is absolutely delicious . Variety is huge . For the starters, main course and desserts also we got selected fruits to start our meal . I don’t have to say anything new about the ambiance as well as the service Since it’s a part of the specialty you will feel special as soon as you enter The hospitality and service was very welcoming We enjoyed our meal and experience. Such a pleasure to visit this place

Nice atmosphere..!! Very good and disciplined service the way it was expected to be, curtious staffs and they keep ensuring that customers have a nice dining experience. Coming to the food, we ordered hakka chow and a side dish of chiken. The order was simple but they made it special for us. Taste was awesome and they suggested a mocktail with smoke on top of it which was a delight "pls excuse me as i don't remember the names of the dish". to end our meal we added ice cream. Ice cream had choclate rolls at the bottom wrapped with wafer sticks and a vanilla ball on top of it. As it was our anniversary to make things even more memorable they arranged a cake for us.. So overall it was an awesome experience.. However if you come by car, parking might be a challange !!;->

An incredible place to hv Food. Essential known for its Chinese dishes , MLC has redesigned its menu recently in a big way. Not only they hv introduced Korean and other oriental dishes in the menu , they hv also taken a special care in including Jain versions in the menu with no onion no garlic options. An unique step I must say as far as the Chinese and the oriental dishes are concerned. I tried their boneless chicken wings in Korean chilli glaze and was extremely happy they way they presented it. The taste was very different and extremely tasteful. The new menu will take me back quite a few times in regular duration. Among the desserts the chocolate Dome is a must try!!!! A Dome shaped full Sized Chocolate. The magic of it lies in its melting down when hot chocolate sauce is poured on it , bringing out the nuts, brownie cakes , Darshaan and the Vanilla ice cream stuffed inside it.

A big group of boisterous young people around 12 people came ALL WITHOUT MASKS and were freely roaming around in the restaurant.I complained two times to the waiter but he did not do anything about it.All the other families were calmly sitting and eating but this group of individuals were all without masks and roaming freely around the tables purposelessly.I am surprised they were allowed without masks in Mainland China.Very irresponsible both on the management and the guests.Better not to go for inservice dining during this period.Very unsafe if all the people are flouting rules openly.

One place where you won't be disappointed having Chinese, is ofcourse this place. Great food, great taste. Do ask for the chef's recommendations while visiting this place, you won't be disappointed. The price might seem a bit expensive but the quality if food and taste makes it up for it.

Savour the Best of Mainland China in a grand Ten Course Lunch & Dinner only @ Rs. 645/-

Undoubtedly the holy grail for Chinese and Oriental Food in the city of Joy, Mainland China is one name which is as synonymous, as is Roshogolla is perhaps to the legacy of this city. For reasons uncomprehended, Mainland China has always been the forefront of some of the best fine dining restaurants this city has to offer. However, more than the ambiance, location or service, it is always the food which wins here, and beckons countless of masses to have a grab of their offerings, atleast once a month! The inert subtlety of the flavours, the use of the exotic, yet the simple-tasting spices, and the love and affection which goes in behind the preparation of every dish, is indeed unmatched!

With the current and ongoing situation of pandemic, it is however hard to spend the way, we may have used to even a couple of months before. Things are tight, and not everything is possible to do the way we would want them to happen. Perhaps this is the reason why, the restaurant is offering a “Best of Mainland China”, in the form of a su0mptuous and mouthwatering ten course lunch and dinner, at a throwaway price of Rs. 645/- only. Ranging from delicious soups, and then moving on to fingerlicking starters, you get the option of devouring lavish main course meals, before finally ending up with some delectable and soul-seeking desserts.

You can start with the delicious Lung Fong Soup, which is ideally a thick soup, full of diced vegetables. For alternate versions, there are ones with meat, with Mainland China offering the variation of a Chicken Lung Fong Soup. With the egg whites floating on the top like thick dense clouds, the cinematic view of this soup is as good as the taste it offers. As you sip in your way through this delectable soup, thin translucent dumplings will make your way on to the table. Again, with the option of choosing between the vegetarian version and the chicken, the flavour will numb your senses, with the fresh chives and basil complementing each other well.

Dip in to the popular chili oil and you would get transported to heaven, all in an instant. What amazed me the most, was the thin wrapper surrounding the dumplings. These were juicy, watery and full of exotic, yet simple flavours to make you all you may want from this place. For appetizers, we chose the Diced Chicken in Assorted Peppers, which had a clear and prominent use of soy, oyster sauce and vinegar, used to combine the flavours of the fresh peppers and the juicy chicken. Tuck in your mouth the caramelized onions, or if you are a vegetarian, opt for their crispy chilli potatoes. Diced, long-cut potatoes, batter fried, and tossed in a sweet chilli sauce, is as good as it can get!

For mains, the Chicken in Roasted Garlic was an absolute lipsmacker. The prominent flavours of garlic seeped in to the chicken, with the sauce being light and aromatic, and pairing perfectly with the Celery and Chinese Cabbage Fried Rice. It was a holy grail of combination, much like the light broth sweet and sour Mandarin Fish along with the Wok Tossed Vegetarian Hakka Noodles. The cornflour tossed fish cubes, had soaked in a substantial portion of the juice from the gravy, thus creating an explosion of flavours in the mouth. For the rest, you can dig into the Stir-Fried Chinese Greens, or if you are a vegetarian, you get the option to savour Corn and Potatoes in Black Pepper Sauce.

Do try their Stir Fried Veg and Cottage Cheese with Roasted Garlic as well, the vegetarian version to the one with Chicken. This would go perfectly well, both with the Celery and Chinese Cabbage Fried Rice or the Wok Tossed Veg Hakka Noodles. Finish up your meal with the quintessential Honey Noodles aka Darsaan, with its wonderful crispy, sticky and sweet texture, combined with the vanilla ice cream ending the meal on a sweet note. My favourite was however the delectable Chocolate Rolls. A mix of crushed coconut and cocoa wrapped inside a batter and deep fried until light brown. Some sweet sugar glaze poured from the top, and a slight drizzle of a rich chocolate syrup.

Perhaps, the best way you can possibly end up your meal! Do not worry about the sanitization process and the safety standards, as utmost precautions and care are being taken to ensure everything is handled well. The staffs are wearing masks and face shields, and the use of hand sanitizers are given paramount importance. With the much throwaway pricing of Rs. 645, you can also add up prawns in a sauce of your choice for only Rs. 119, or order a mocktail for Rs. 99, and can even opt for a bottle of Aerated Water for Rs. 449/-. The Government Taxes, do come extra!

#MainlandChina #BestofMainlandChina #TenCourseMeal #Lunch #Dinner #SetMeal #Vegetarian #NonVegetarian #Safety #SpecialityGroup #Mocktails #whenstomachtickles

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Tantalize your tastebuds with the Alluring Seafood & Wine Festival @ Mainland China.!

If Kolkata has a place in the culinary and gastronomical landscape of this world, Mainland China would undoubtedly be in the forefront of having contributed largely to that success and fame. Part of the famed Speciality Restaurants, their original outlet at Gurusaday Road is often frequented by those craving for near-perfect authentic Chinese flavours. Since long, this place has been a mecca for foodies and food lovers, trying to sample Chinese and Oriental food without having stepped into a different country. Always leading by example, this fine-dining restaurant excels in quality, having served many with their finest dispositions of ingredients.

What better way to combine the finesse for food possessed here by the highly qualified Master Chef’s. with the intense obsession most of the people of Kolkata possess for seafood. Ask any Bong, whether he resides in the urban Kolkata, or even in the rural villages, fish and rice has to be their staple food, every day, counting to 30 days of the month. Prawns, Crabs, Fish; we get treated to the own masterchef classes by our mothers with a mix of their traditional way of cooking seafood, combined with some of the new techniques now slowly being adapted by many. Whether you love it the traditional way with a mix of Panchphoron, or in the Oriental way with a mix of herbs and Asian spices, our love for seafood can only be compared with our immense love for seafood.

If you love to travel, with most of our friendly states in India graced by a coastline and with the oceans surrounding the land, seafood is widely abundant in most places of India, with them and the most of the rest being a similar fanatic towards the love for seafood. Mainland China is currently celebrating this undeniable bond, by hosting a seafood and wine festival at their Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Noida branches, where the freshest catch of the day is carefully tampered with select spices and then grilled, slow cooked or fried to perfection. Crab, Shrimp, Lobster, Prawn, Fish; you name it, and there’s a masterchef preparation waiting right for you to devour and experience the sensation of fine cooking.

We started off with a squid preparation, which had fresh caught squids in a tempura batter which was fried in butter and their flavour enhanced with a slight sprinkle of curry leaves. This gave the fineness of the tempura batter, combined with the freshness of the squid and the crispiness of the batter, further complemented by the rustic flavours of the curry leaves. Next to come was the crispy Bombay Duck, which is otherwise locally known as Loytta fish. This preparation saw a finely minced meat of the fish, flavoured with spices, which was then given the shape of a finger, and then deep fried within a batter of bread crumbs.

Ideally a Loytta fish fry, if I have to call it in simple terms, this was served with a mildly spicy Sriracha dip, which is a generalized term for the chillies which grown in the region of Sriracha in Thailand. Moving on, we gladly devoured the crab claws, which had the juicy and tender meat in and around the claw area of the crab deep fried within a layer of bread crumbs, and served with Sambal Salsa, a fingerlicking lip made out of varying peppers along with ginger, garlic, scallion, shrimp paste and various other ingredients. Sticking to crabs, we were served with a Singapore Chilli Crab, which had mud crabs stir fried and tossed in a sweet and chilli tomato sauce. A sweet and savoury dip, layering the entire crab, the consistency and flavours emitting out of the sauce was as good as it could get.

Moving on to fish, the Grilled Fish cakes with Lime and Coconut literally blew us over. A mix of fish meat with ginger, garlic, horseradish, crushed coconut and a drizzle of lime was grilled to light brown, so as not to overly cook the fish and thereby retain the flavours within. Next to come was a medium sized lobster, tossed and cooked slowly with a sweet and tangy teriyaki sauce. For the last two appetizers, we had a prawn dumpling, poached and gently cooked in a spicy Szechuan sauce, and succulent and soft shrimps along with crab meat, cooked in a roasted garlic sauce. Finely done, the creamy roasted garlic sauce complemented well the succulent textures of both the meat.

Moving on to the maincourse, we had a Nile perch, which is ideally a large mouthed freshwater fish, also known as the African snook or the Victoria perch and commonly found in the Afrotropic Ecozone, sliced up and cooked in a chilli cinnamon sauce. Having a moist texture like the seabass, the chilli cinnamon sauce was definitely to our liking, with the quantity of the cinnamon being used just right, so as not to make the dish overly sweet. A rather rustic preparation to follow next, we had the juicy shrimp tossed with the herby lemongrass and basil, and flavoured with the spiciness of the chillies. This was followed by clams, stir fried and tossed in spicy black bean sauce.

The Pomfret Miso Chilli presented the earthy flavours from the fermented soyabeans, with the chillies balancing the sweetness from its counterpart, making the dish a sweet and spicy, enhancing and penetrating the soft and flaky Pomfret fish. Fish with Orange and Black Bean and Fresh Bhetki in Mandarin Sauce were like two sides of the same coin, with the former having the rusticity and earthiness from the black beans, to be enhanced by the citric and sweet textures of the oranges, while the latter, had fresh bhetki of the day cooked in a sweet and salty Mandarin sauce, courtesy to the contribution of the soy sauce, hoisin sauce and the brown sugar.

All of these sumptuous and wonderful maincourse preparations were paired with Fukien styled Crab meat Fried Rice, which was ideally a popular Cantonese wok-styled fried rice, with the pouring of a rich and flavourful gravy on the top. For other choices, we tried another Cantonese styled fried rice, flavoured with shrimps, celery and garlic. For the last staple of the day, we were presented with the Shanghai seafood noodles, a variety of noodles which has its origin in the Shanghai region of China. This has a slight thicker texture than the regular ones we have in India. These noodles were tossed with an equal popular seafood sauce, with the umami emancipating from this sauce, i.e. the XO Sauce setting the mood for the day.

This festival, as mentioned above, has already commenced from the 5th of December, 2019, and will continue till the 22nd of December, 2019. One can pair the exotic seafood with a glass of red wine to quench your thirsty senses, which ironically seems to be a perfect compliment to the array of the huge and well spread mouthwatering seafood fest which awaits you at Mainland China. Sula Satori Tempranillo, Sula Chenin Blanc, Sula Cabernet Shiraz and Sula Sauvignon Blanc will be there to up for grabs. Apart from these, you can also try the signature mocktails and cocktails available here. Our pick for the day was Vodka Litchi and Kaffir Lime Mojito and Watermelon Basil Crush.

Some of the dishes are particular to a city and may be unavailable elsewhere. Do ring up your nearest branch in the participating cities, prior venturing out for your gastronomic endeavors!

#MainlandChina #SeafoodAndWineFestival #Seafood #Wine #SeasTheDay #Crab #Prawn #Shrimp #Lobster #Clams #Fish #Pomfret #Bhetki #Noodles #FriedRice #XoSauce #MandarinSauce #Chinese #Oriental #Asian #Mumbai #Pune #Kolkata #Bengaluru #Hyderabad #Chennai #Noida #speciality #specialitygroup #mocktails #cocktails #whenstomachtickles

If it’s Chinese it’s Mainland China

After this long lockdown period the “Unlock process” is giving oxygen to our economy and like every industry food and hospitality industry are also ready to welcome their guests. Through social media I noticed restaurants are taking precautions and also trying to maintain social distancing. Few days a back I visited Mainland China , Gurusaday Road Ballyguange for having lunch.

At the entrance you need to sanitize your hand properly and then they will check the body temperature if everything goes fine then you can go upstairs to relish delectable Chinese food. You can’t sit anywhere , there are some selected tables where you can sit which they selected by maintaining social distancing. The table will be sanitized in front of you. So , They are taking every possible precautions to serve the guests properly. The feeling of Chineseness is not only limited to the cuisine but is there in the décor created by hangings on the walls, the colour of the walls and the dimly lit light.

Mainland China has recently introduced a new 10 course set menu lunch and dinner meal option at just 645/- +GST for a person. This meal is only available for dine in and not valid for takeaway or delivery. They reduced the dinner timing to 9pm due to this lockdown period and the lunch timing remains unchanged, it is 12.30-4pm.
hot lung Fung soup ,soft and juicy chicken basil dumplings, mild spicy pepper assorted chicken to delectable chocolate roll every dish was very delicious.
Bon Appetit!!!!!

"Mainland China", A name which needs no introduction as it is one of the best and most reputed restaurant under the Speciality group of restaurants which introduced authentic Chinese food to the city of joy.

Few days back I've visited their Gurusaday Dutta Road outlet to taste their newly curated ten course lunch and dinner which is available at just 645/- plus taxes. You can avail it on any day of the month.

*Note*
To avoid the gathering around the food area they've come up with a set meal plan, this is not a buffet you usually get, this is a complete meal plan to steal your heart. The timings have been chaged a bit as per the norms set by the government. The lunch hours are the same as before which is 12:30pm to 4pm but the dinner timings have been reduced to 6pm to 8pm as they have to close it by 9. So the last dinner order is taken until 8pm.

As soon as I stepped in, I fell in love with the ambiance. It'll give you some sort of vibe of China. The woodwork will definitely catch your attention.

As we're going through this pandemic situation right now because of the covid cases but they've taken all the safety measures to ensure the safety of every customer.

Now coming to the food I've tried,

Soup :
• Lung Fung (chicken/veg)

Dimsum :
• Basil flavored dumplings (chicken/veg)

Appetizer :
• Diced chicken assorted pepper
Or
• Crispy Chili Potatoes

Main Course :
• Chicken in roasted garlic
• Mandarin Fish (their signature dish)
• Stir Fried Chinese Greens
Or
• Stir Fried Veg & Cottage Cheese with Roasted Garlic
• Corn and Potatoes in Black Pepper Sauce
• Stir Fried Chinese Greens
• Celery & Cheese Cabbage Fried Rice
• Wok Tossed Veg Hakka Noodles

Desserts :
• Honey Noodles
• Chocolate Rolls
• Vanilla Ice Cream

You can add on prawns (6pcs) in sauce of your choice with an additional 119 rupees or mocktails with a price of 99/-

Quite an experience. Absolutely loved each and every dish. Specially their Chocolate Rolls. The chocolate rolls are basically gooey chocolate which is rolled into cigars wrapped in a pastry sheets and then deep fried. Delectable. Very well curated by Chef Indraneel Chatterjee. Kudos to him.

Definitely one of the best dining experience I've had till now. To the people who couldn't go out because of this pandemic and really craving for some authentic Chinese food, you should definitely check this out.
Thank you so much for having me over. It was a lovely experience try these amazing dishes.

Mainland China Ballygunge is a part of a chain of seven restaurants spread across Kolkata. It is boon for those looking for good Chinese food at a nice price point. Taste and consistency across all their outlets is amazing. The USP of Mainland China is good food. The cuisine is Chinese and Asian. There is an equal measure of veg, chicken, fish, lamb and prawns. There is soup, starters, dimsum and main course. Portions are sufficient. Quality is top notch. Remember we are talking about Kolkata, where majority of the restaurants are not able to prepare tasty Chinese food, like it is made. We are there invited for post COVID 10 course LUNCH & DINNER buffet (VEG & NON VEG) menu launch by them . Every aspect, be it presentation of food, ambiance, service or value for money, this restaurant is a fine example of a heartfelt restaurant, in the very heart of the city.

Budget Buffet at Mainland China
.
Yes Mainland China is all set with a 10 course LUNCH & DINNER (VEG & NON VEG). Enjoy on all day at ₹ 645.
.
Mainland China is one of the few places to serve authentic Chinese.
Would recommend loading up on the starters and dessert – they are delicious.
Popular ones include BASIL FLAVOURED DUMPLINGS, CRISPY CHILLY POTATOES, MANDARIN FISH, STIR FRIED CHINESE GREENS, and WOK TOSSED VEG HAKKA NOODLES for mains. This is where I felt in love with Mainland China sply their buffet later there was several outlet around Kolkata but this was my favourite... Though it's bit off route.. I mostly visit Avani close to my Home and then South City branch but after long time I felt like going there.

But one thing I miss was there speciality earlier or their chocolate pastry it was so so fresh n soft u can not cut a small piece.. There was hint of crunchy coconut along with choco chip inside that pastry. I can never forget that taste... I would request the management if they can again bring it back to their menu ...

Their staff has always been friends n helpful.. Best part is they remember their customers, we met many times in different speciality groups outlet n they recognised us ..
Pleasing to the eye and delectable food, little pricey, but will never disappoint anyone. On the contrary, this is just the place where you can have healthy Chinese cuisine even during the lockdown. Thanks to all those people who took risk to prepare and deliver food even during the lockdown.

Visited Mainland China (Ballygunge) on 23/02/2020. The experience of the buffet lunch was awesome. The starters and desserts were especially delicious. They usually have a wide variety of dishes in their buffet spread including fish, chicken, prawn, lamb and crab preparations. Most of the dishes were lip-smacking. The ambience was outstanding. The service was top-notch.

Mainland China is itself a brand for a reason. I realised as soon as I stepped in. Absolutely loved the ambience.
Enough staffs are there to welcome, recommend or serve you. Nothing much to say about then except excellent! Impressive service.
Since they've launched a new menu, they recommended from it.
We ordered

1. Battered fried five spice chicken - absolutely loved it! Proper blend of spices and sweetness. Highly recommended.

2. Toban fried rice with chicken edamame - they recommended to have large one for two if us but thank God we didn't. It was quite difficult for us to have the regular one, even for two. Specially me since I can't have a lot of foods at a time. So it's completely depends on your appetite. And yes, the rice us recommended. But a bit hint or lemon or leaves could make it more delicious.

3. Lamb in mehlak sauce - it was bookmarked my me but the staff said that if we want we could opt for other sauces as it comes with black mushroom and bamboo shoots. And it has a Smell that might bot be good. But since we haven't tried bamboo shoots, we opted for it and loved it! And every items quantity is enough.

The decoration is minimal. Yet classy Chinese. We thought to have desserts but we were too full to have any 😭. We have to visit some other day to have it.
Would love to try their buffet next time! ❤️

Thankyou MAINLAND CHINA ❤️

There's little I can add by way of praise to an establishment the middle class Bangali has grown up worshipping. Back in the day when options were few, this was their escapade into 'authentic', the hugely expensive meal that you could only afford once in several years and then talk about for the rest of your life. This was how much I grew up revering this place (and indeed my visit this week was only the third in my life). There's a reason this restaurant has stood the test of time (and spread from this one original branch), and although I care a lot less about authentic (I have been exposed to plenty authentic in the meantime), it lived up every bit to my fantasies. The fact that this was a cosy family meal after eons made it even more special.

If I compare it now to most other restaurants, this is one of the high end ones but doesn't stand out in terms of price. There are several places nowadays where, without thinking, we end up splurging a lot more. We ordered the California Sushi roll from the three sushi options because I wanted my parents to try a more palatable form of sushi their very first time. We had to ask for the wasabi, ginger and chopsticks. (The wasabi was a little milder than I expected, but I wasn't after authentic). We followed this up with the Chicken Hot and Sour soup and slurped it up hungrily to soothe our sore throats. Along came 'Drums of Heaven', sweet and tangy and perfectly living up to my nostalgia of this other very Indo-Chinese delicacy.

For the main course we ordered chicken with chili and basil in a clay pot with lemongrass fried rice on the side. I knew chili and basil could not go wrong, and I was right again (it's hard not to be in a place like this). The lemongrass rice has an aroma that needed to be experienced on its own, I preferred to have it as a dish separate from the chicken.

And for desserts we got ourselves the palm-gur ice cream (highly recommended) and the choco ball with hot chocolate syrup (not so much, but it was good nevertheless).

The staff were courteous, the service fast and good. This place doesn't need to be advertised but for what it's worth, do consider Mainland China, and this very branch, for special occasions!

One of the main outlets of mainland china, this place offers a good space to enjoy delicious Chinese cuisine. They even have private spaces available for special events. I had gone here for dinner on a weekend (a la carte) but ended up being enticed by the buffet. For the non veg lovers out there - Prawns, crab, fish, lamb, chicken was available in the main course. The vegetarian section looked good too. Enjoyed the steamed momos and drumsticks. Some starters were even served on the table. And you can end the meal on a sweet note with some desserts. Considering the wide variety of dishes we had, buffet at mainland china is a good deal.

Mainland china is located in gurasaday dutta road, ballygunge, kolkata. With a very soothing and a posh ambience, it is undoubtedly one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in kolkata. The highlight of this restaurant is how good and courteous the staff is. They served us the starters on our table and we had to take the main course and the desserts from the buffet counter.

The price of the buffet was Rs. 940 per person(inclusive of tax).

The dimsum and the fish fry and the drums of heaven were very tasty. The show stealer were the fish fries. It was very soft and tender. The main course included prawns, crabs, fried rice and chowmein, amongst which the prawns were very tasty and very juicy. The desserts ranged from ice cream, to sweets to even cheesecake. It is hands down one of the best buffets in kolkata.

Price - Rs. 940 inclusive of tax.
Rating : 4.6/5.

Very nice ambience. Very spacious. The staff were very courteous. The pepper fish was good as a starter. The General Tao Chicken was also good. Not too spicy. The hakka noodles and chicken fried rice were average. The mocktails we're good, too. The sizzling brownie was good. Very expensive though but a good place to come with family. Overall:
Price to quantity ratio: 3/5
Food taste: 5/5
Ambience: 5/5

Let me begin by laying down my cards here. There are all kinds of biases involved in the writing of this post. Though I wished that they served the favoured Chinese meat of pork.

And the best part is I always suggest the name of mainland China when someone says that he/she wants to get the taste of authentic Chinese food, as it never disappoints anyone.

Last Wednesday, I visited their Gurusaday Dutta Road outlet, to taste their menu from their newly launched Sea Food Menu.

There was an array of food. Starting from Pomfret to Squid, Lobsters to Shrimps everything was there.

We started this gastronomic journey with the Litchi Mojito. Then, the Crispy fried Bombay Duck was served to us. Usually, all the Bengalis love the Bombay Duck as Loitta Maach. This was so crispy that I had two of them.

After that, Pomfret in Miso Chilli Sauce was served. From the photos you can see, how they serve this. Chunks of Pomfret, tossed in miso chilli sauce was so tasty that you won't like talking while having this.

Then Crispy fried crab claw was served with sambal salsa. Oh, you'll get it served in shot glasses.

As soon as we had this, we were served the squid. Actually crispy fried squid rings were served, tossed in butter, chilli and curry leaves.

I was about to finish this, but noticed small round shaped cakes were served. When I ate that I realised it was named as Grilled Fish Cakes with Lime and Coconut. Minced fish and Coconut, flavoured with lemon zest and coriander were the main ingredients. It was served with sweet chilli sauce.

Then we were served crab meat fried rice. Along with this, prawns were served that was made with lemongrass and basil. The aroma of the basil was the show stopper.

After this I tasted Nile Perch with chilli and cinnamon sauce. The chunks of nile perch was looking like fish and was tasting quite similar to sea fish. You'll get a pungent smell while having this and this is what makes it different from any other fishes.

Now I'll tell about two giant dishes.
First one is Singaporean Chilli Crab. You'll get a giant size crab tossed it Singaporean style with a hint of kaffir lime and lemongrass.

The second and last giant thing we had in front of us was - Sanpei Lobster in a Clay Pot. They will serve this dish in a claypot. Here the lobster is cooked in rice wine and basil flavored soya broth.

Now, you're thinking for how long you'll get this in the menu. Actually this seafood special menu by mainland China is available till 22nd December.

So, while there is still a nip in the air, and winter hasn't yet enter to the city of joy, just go amd grab these dishes with your friends and family.

Happy tummy.. 🤓🥳

If you are craving for some mouthwatering marine delicacies then go ahead and indulge in some good food this winter at Mainland China. This is a big shout out for gastronomes who love the giant lobsters, creamy bombay duck, silky crab meat, chewy squid and fleshy pomfret.

Sampled a sumptuous spread at their Mainland China. The boneless crumb fried bombay duck accompanied with grilled minced fish in fresh coconut and zesty lime was a sumptuous start. Moving ahead our taste buds were tantalized by the crispy crab claw served with Sambal Sauce and soothen by lemongrass flavoured prawn spiced coconut broth. The strong notes of lemongrass make it an irresistible bite. Also loved the chunks of lobster in teriyaki sauce and pomfret in miso chilli sauce. Chef Indraneel Bhattacharya took us through each one of his creations on the table and was floored by the hospitality from Ankur Mandal.

Seafood and Wine festival is taking place at Mainland China from 5th Dec to 22nd Dec 2019. Pocket pinch INR 2000++ for two.

Bro Tip: Must try Bombay Duck with Sriracha, Fish Cakes with Lime & Coconut, Crabmeat and Prawns in Roasted Garlic, Lobster with Teriyaki Sauce, Crab Claw with Sambal Sauce, and Pomfret in Miso Chilli Sauce

Follow at Facebook: good Food Bro | Instagram: thegoodfoodbro

Mainland China has come up with a specialized festival called the SEAFOOD & WINE FESTIVAL which comprises a multitude of selections of seafood such as fish (Pomfret,Nile Perch,Bombay Duck and Bhetki) prawns, lobsters, crab and more.

So I was keen to try out some dishes from the festival. An exotic range of dishes from Grilled Fish Cakes, Crispy Squid With Butter And Curry Leaves, Crispy Fried Crab Claw with Sambal Sauce & Crispy Bombay Duck with Sriracha in Starters to an exciting array of Mains such as Sliced Nile Perch With Chilli Cinnamon Sauce, Prawns With Lemongrass In Chilli And Basil, Sanpei Lobster In A Clay Pot, Fukien Crabmeat Fried Rice, Shanghai Seafood Noodles In XO Sauce were some of the delectable dishes.
The ingredients used are fresh, some items are imported, like the Nile Perch which gets imported from Africa. These exotic dishes are so flavourful and a treat to the taste buds.
The Crispy Bombay Duck locally called Loitta Maach was marinated and fried which was really crispy and crunchy.Never thought Loitta Maach can be this tasty!
Crispy Squid with Butter and Curry leaves was full of flavours, the freshly ground black peppers and green chillies made it delicious.
One of the most recommended appetizer was Crispy Fried Crab Claw with Sambal Sauce, presented in shots glasses, the bottom of the glass had the sweet and tangy sauce and the crumb fried crab claw lay on top. Loved the combination.
Grilled Fish cakes with Lime zest and fresh coconut and coriander was so juicy and it was served with sweet chilli sauce that complimented well.

Among the main course I would definitely recommend Fukein Crab Meat Fried Rice which was tossed with chilli flakes and tomatoes.
Also the Pomfret in Miso Chilli Roast Sauce was one of the best pomfret dish I've ever had.The roast chilli sauce gave a smokey flavour to the dish.
I personally love the flavour of coconut milk,so Prawns with lemongrass and basil cooked in coconut broth has to be the most soothing food for me from the entire main course menu. The prawns were succulent and the curry was exceptionally well made.

So one can dive into this specialized menu as part of A-la-Carte dining from 5th December- 22nd December.

Cost for two: INR 1500-2000 approximately.
Verdict: 5/5

In general I do not review here in zomato. But today I could not resist to write the honest opinion about buffet in mainland china. I feel swindled by the so many good reviews here. I went there today for lunch, and was surprised to see most of the tables were empty. Utterly disappointing. Pretty much the worst buffet I have ever had.The main course fish and chicken was stale. Dessert section was almost empty. The sugar-free custard was not even refilled. They admitted that their sushi(starter item) was disliked by most people, so they have discontinued it. Service was bad since they took half an hour to serve us the complimentary drinks which was so bad that we could hardly drink them. Also we had to ask for providing the spoon and fork repeatedly. I will not recommend anyone to go for this buffet. Their a-la carte, I believe is the thing to look for.

Mainland China is one of the most fanciest and cosiest Chinese restaurant in Kolkata. It's buffet is very pocket friendly given that they serve bevy of Chinese delicacies ranging from sushi's,crabs, lobsters, wantons. They also have an exotic sea food platter. The star attraction of the buffet was the 8 types of starters. The staffs were also very polite and welcoming.

So my lil princess Suranjana Dey treated me for my pre birthday lunch here. And we had:

Eight Treasure Sweet Corn Chicken Soup: A really delicious soup suggested by the person serving us. The soup was tasty and filling. There were even tiny slices of peanuts which was unique.

Basil Flavoured Chicken Dumplings: The flavour of basil wasn't much. They tasted like simple dumplings.

Singapore Chili Prawns: I loved this dish. The prawns were beautifully cooked and the tossed with very mild spices.

Chicken with Assorted Pepper: Well this was a spicy chicken starter with all of our colorful peppers.

Overall I loved the ambiance of the place. The staff was really well behaved, well versed with the menu and very courteous. They even served us pickled cucumbers and cabbage as soon as we were seated. The food was also good.
Suman Samui

Mainland China

Ballygunge, Kolkata.

An authentic Chinese restaurant in town known for its good ambience and delicious food . Serves you Japanese , shushi , Asian , Chinese and Thai .

Helpful and friendly staff , Valet service and great decor . Fine dining .

If you are a prawn or lobster lover , you must try those dishes here . It’s as tasty , fresh and soft as one can expect. For a starter you can go for chicken lollipop and baby corn . Noodles or rice as your main course.

If you ever want to try out real shushi you must try it out here . It is served at its best and its probably the only place where you can get it . Coming to the beverage , the bar is open with a variety of drinks and its preferable for non alcoholic to go for mojito instead of normal cold drink . Ending to this lovely meal you can alway go for the deserts .

Overall a good experience. Will surely look to comeback . Surely a must visit to all .

Thank you.

You can find a Chinese restaurant at any corner, in the City of Joy, but there are very few that serves authentic Chinese dishes. Mainland China is one of the top places, that serves great Chinese dishes. We went to try their buffet menu.
Coming to the food, ambience and service:

1. Food- They will serve you the starter and soup, but you have to self serve the main course and dessert.

~Assorted Salads

~Chicken Clear Soup- The soup was extremely light and the flavour was too good. There were shredded chickens in the entire soup. You can have this.

~Starter

• Crispy Fish- One bite in the fish, and you will be able to fill the crisp. This one was fresh, hot and juicy. One of the highly recommended dish.

• Chicken Drumstick- The drumsticks were good, I like the taste of it.

• Prawn Sushi- Not a very big fan of sushi, but after having these sushis, I became one.

• Chicken Siu Mai- Served with two different types of sauces, this tastes amazing.

~Main Course

• Mixed Hakka Noodles- The noodles were neither too dry nor too oily, they were just perfect.

• Triple Schezwan Rice- The rice was okay-ish. I prefer rice more than noodles, but here, I preferred noodles more.

• Chilli Chicken- This one was okay-ish. The chicken was having a coating which tasted bad.

• Prawn Hot and Garlic- This one was my favourite. Medium sized prawns, infinite in number. I mean, nothing can beat this dish.

• A preparation of Crab- I am very sorry I don't remember the actual name, but the taste of this dish was amazing. The crab was juicy, there was enough meat.

~Dessert
• Assorted Pastries- The pastries were soft and fluffy. I think the flavour was mango.

• Brownie- The brownies were a bit hard, but the taste was no doubt great.

• Darshan- The darshans were really amazing. They were crunchy and hot. It goes best with vanilla ice cream.

• Custard- The custard was okay-ish.

• Cheese Cake- The taste of the cheese cake was not that good. This was not like a regular cheese cake.

• Ice Cream- There was four flavours of ice cream. Chocolate, vanilla, mango and butterscotch. There was hot chocolate and choco chips. So you can serve yourself with brownie with hot chocolate ice cream.
Rating- 5/5

2. Ambience- The place is huge, they have a big dine in area. The place was cool, calm and comfortable.
Rating- 4/5

3. Service- Everyone were really helpful and humble. They always had a smile on their face which gives so much positive vibes. Their hospitality is really appreciable.
Rating- 5/5
