Review Sonargaon - Kolkata (Calcutta)

I celebrated my dad’s milestone birthday at Sonargaon today and was very impressed with the quality of food, service and the overall rustic ambience of Sonargaon!

The restaurant is located at Taj Bengal. Lovely stylish design with the rural INDIA theme. Great service. All dishes are prepared - just a delight! They have a good wine list too Many thanks to the chef and all the staff for a wonderful dinner. The staff was genuinely welcoming and very attentive.

Our Anniversary celebrations were made special by the staff at Taj, they arranged for Cakes and Flowers for us to make our experience a memorable one. Its these small gestures that go a long way in terms of customer delight, I'm happy that we went to Sonargaon. Good food, good vibes and good hospitality. Nafisa attended to us and she was top class in terms of service.

On the occasion of my Birthday on 4th September, I alongwith my Wife and daughter had a Dinner at your Restaurant. In my opinion Sonargaon Restaurant at Taj Bengal is among the best for sumptuous Indian Dishes. The Atmosphere was Excellent, Food was Very Good and the Service was also very Good. We enjoyed the Experience and would again like to visit the place.

Very wonderful experience I had yesterday. This was our first visit .. The quality and quantity both looks very good to me … Since this is Bengal’s heritage Traditional hotel so the royal ambiance always eye catching…Restaurant staffs were very friendly and prompt on providing servicing.. I am impressed and I will recommend everyone to try this place at-least once so that you can have royal experience in life .

We had gone to Taj Bengal for lunch, and were recommended Sonargaon by the staff there. The restaurant offers Indian cuisine, specialising in Bengali food. We chose the latter. The food was delicious. Couple that with the typical 'gram bangla' decor, it was a once in a lifetime experience. We ordered à la carte and he quantity was more than adequate. The cost overall was less than a typical buffet. The staff was very warm and welcoming. Everyone wore masks and the place is kept spick and span. We had the opportunity of meeting the chef, and he was as humble as can be. Overall, 6 stars out of 5.

It was such a great experience. Perfect place to celebrate Durga Puja with exquisite Bengali thali. We ordered seafood thali, it was delicious but didn't like all the fish items, can't remember the name but one item I didn't like. It's unlimited, and the best thing is that they always serve hot food properly. It costs 3500 + 18%tax ( sea food thali)

We specifically wanted to taste biriyani at the Taj. First things first you will not find the "Kolkata" style biriyani here with the absolutely mandatory aloo and egg that we have grown up with. My only request is to please introduce this darling of biriyani lovers from Kolkata!! Thd Awadhi style biriyani has more spices so if you are looking for it go on try it. One portion is more than sufficient for two people and would cost around INR1600.The raita accompanying the biriyani is really nice! That apart the gondhoraj beckti kebabs are absolutely recommended and so is the nolen gur icecream and rasamalai prices around INR600. The quality of martini and margaritas is top notch. Did not enjoy the chewy experience of Lamb Rann. Also highly recommend booking a table in advance as the place receives a flow of diners specially on weekends. You would definitely love the decor and the staff service here. Indulge with family and friends as the ambience would probably not attract solo diners.

Yesterday i went there for dinner with my niece and cousins to celebrate her birthday. The ambience, the decor everything was good. The staffs are very welcoming, very much pleased with their behaviour and approach. They took care of everything we mentioned for our dinner. The quality and quantity of food served was good. Though the place is very far from my place still i want to visit this place again. And i will recommend everyone to visit this place at least once and and to avoid waiting prebook your table.

Visited Sonargoan, Taj Bengal, for a family dinner. We had made prior reservations for the same. The staff are very courteous and all of the staff were maintaining Covid Protocols and wearing necessary protections for that. The menu can be accessed by scanning the QR code present on the table. For the starters we had Kuta Mirch Methi Paneer Tikka and Dahi ke seekh kebab, served with mint chutney. The taste was amazing but the quantity could have been more, according to me. For the Main Course, we had : Dum ka paneer, Gucchi(morel) Kumbh(mushroom) pyaz wala, Dal Sonargoan (Dal bhukara), Garlic Naan and Warqi paratha (loved this 1). The main course was fantastic and the quantity was satisfactory as well. To end our meal we had the Banarasi Lassi, which was packed with saffron and served with Rabri.. It was really nice. All in all we had a great time there. Will surely visit again.

'Sonargaon' is one of the fine dining north indian restaurant in Taj Bengal. We visited here last year durga puja time with my friends for dinner.Must try for reservation in advance in durga puja time.we ordered here four Puja Special Aamish Thali, which includes four types of fry,one chicken item, one mutton item, one fish item, dal, served with plain rice, pulao & luchi, also included Chutney,Sweet Curd, two types of sweet, must try this thali, but it available only for durga puja time. This thali portion is enough for 2 people. We also ordered here a la carte item.At first we ordered 'Orange Mojito' as a mocktail,it was outstanding, then we ordered here 'Murgh Malai Tikka',it was just mouth watering, chicken was so soft. Then we tasted here 'Kancha Lonka Murgi' with 'Butter Naan' & 'Laccha Paratha'.All items were just outstanding.Atlast we ordered here 'Dum Gosht Biryani',it was very bad, don't try it,it was totally worthless & huge expensive.otherwise Sonargoan is one of the best 5 star fine dining north indian restaurant in kolkata.

The restaurant is good but lacks service staff. One waiter caters two to three tables simultaneously. They also have mismanagement as they did mistake in my billing where they added an item which we never ordered. They wrongly charged us ₹2400 for nolen gur icecream which we never ordered or ate. We overlooked it and came back home without verifying. Quite a pathetic experience. They were too busy to greet any guest properly.<br/>Request the authority to check it as the booking was on 6th March 2019, at 8:30pm for Nitai Saha. Total bill was ₹12538.

Great ambience, superb food and extra courteous staff. <br/>I went for the first time as I’m not a local but heard so much. <br/>The kosha mangsho was heavenly with luchi and the nalli was extra delicious and had very tender meat. <br/>The nolen gur ice cream is just the perfect thing one can have. <br/>The complimentary narkol nadu they have in the end along with mishti paan just made my day. <br/>Glen 15yr with the starters of tawa fry lobster and seekh kebab was all that to ruin my long going diet!

It was our third wedding anniversary and we chose to have our lunch in Sonargaon and the place as expected didn't give us a single chance to be disappointed or dissatisfied. Service is mind blowing, so is the food. Our order was : Benarasi Lassi , Raan Sonargaon, Gilafi Kulcha, Garlic Naan and Sunheri Nalli Gosht. Lassi was too thick & yummy. Raan Sonargaon as starter is a great item but order it if you are in group of 4 as it is difficult for 2 people to finish off. But I must say what a great item it was, a must try. Sunheri Nalli gosht in main course was a 3 pieces mutton curry ( comes in thick gravy). The mutton pieces were so soft coming off from bones. Gilafi Kulcha is a double layer bread which goes well with gravy items but with Garlic Naan ,the mutton curry tasted even better. Unfortunately we were too full to finish off all, so packed the remaining. As it was Anniversary lunch we got a complimentary cake. At the end of our lunch they served 2 types of Paan and 4 Narkol Naru. Being a sweet lover( esp jaggery sweets) I was overjoyed to get those Naru. The bill was around Rs4500, which I found quite reasonable for a 5 star place. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at Sonargaon.

We came here for new year lunch. To our extreme dismay, we were being served by a trainee who ruined our experience. While serving the starter, she messed up the food. It was replaced by only one piece of the kebab instead of the proper portion. To enhance our bitter experience further, while serving the main course, she again dropped the food half on the plate and half on the table. The manager only apologized to us and did nothing. We had to again order for a replacement. Moreover they served the breads first without the main course which obviously got cold for the long wait.<br/><br/>As a compensation, we were offered the lunch on the house. Although it was not a substitute for the ugly experience, yet the gesture was appreciated.

A sophisticated place with a very unique interior and polite stuff. Food is delicious here. I went for a family dinner and had a really good time.

A evening to be remembered. We went around 7.30 and spent almost 2 hours , enjoyed the ambiance and of course the food.<br/>Started with Kakori kabab, Ran Sonargaon and Sam pora sarbat.<br/>Ran Sonargaon was too good.<br/>In the main course we ordered Gilafi Kulcha, chicken Biryani, Dal Sonargaon, Dhania Murg. I have never had such a delicious Kulcha in my life.<br/>The dessert we ordered was the Kulfi.<br/>Overall the decorations and the food was too good. The restaurant has a old theme portray as a golden village. Last but not the list the dinner ended up with a complementary Pan.<br/>

While you’re in the city of joy and perhaps on a business or leisure trip and staying in at the Taj Bengal, this Indian restaurant that serves some very authentic Indian food with a lot of Bengali favourites is definitely a must try here. One of the reasons to give this place a good score is the very rustic village feel within a hotel, one that you will not find in most hotels. You can’t start a meal here without some typical Indian chaat varieties. Try and experiment with some Bangla food but for me I stuck to the usual black dal, paneer with some authentic spices, pudina Chaas, biryani and it was wholesome. The deserts are the treat in here and apart from eating the various Bengali sweets you can try with a baked rasogulla. It’s a must for the sweet tooth people. And while you’ve eaten a lot, there’s a lot of mouth freshness and palette cleansers to end your meal!

This is the most underrated place of kolkata and I wonder why do people go to other five star restaurant other than Taj Sonargaon. Blissfull experience truly superb place. They serve food so hot and the food remains hot for quite some time. This enhances the tase 10 times. Dal sonargaon is amazing and must have for every visit. Aloo lal mirch is again awesome. Overall experience is very relaxing and stress reliever.

Waah "Taj", or the crown of Bengal is well ornamented with it's golden village or "sonar Gaon". The sonar gaon enriched with zamindari or landlord culinary culture of Indian bears of Raj Islamic and effects of Partition, prepossessed with cobbled floors, earthen ware, pots, mud walls and amiable indian music. Little things such as hurricane (lantern), cart(tanga gari), show kitchen potraying artisian well holding an earthen pot gives an charismatic look to the place. The cart holds round dishes with different traditional herbs.<br/><br/>About Food (In the frame)<br/><br/>1. Luchi,The dollop of ghee makes it crispy<br/>2. Chholar dal, with flavours of garam masala and bites of grated coconuts makes it perfect for luchi.<br/>3. Begun bhaja served on banana leaf, crumbly from the top and lurid once munched.<br/>3. Mangshor Jhol, tender mutton piece in spicy red gravy.<br/>4. Hyderabadi Mutton Biryani with raita to savour the taste of potli masala.<br/>5. Mishti doi, I call it the "Taj of Bengal" for that gluten on the top.<br/><br/>At the end of supper the guests are served with warm water, gondhoraj lebu all in brass bowl and jug.Mr. Fiyaz was our host for the night and courteously bidded us farwell.<br/><br/>

Quite simply one of the best indian restaurants of the city. They have a huge menu with lots and lots of tasty options. Although their veg. Starters aren't the best, their dal, rotis, and mains are phenomenal.

Parat Pulao<br/>4. Nolen Gurer Ice cream 🍨 <br/>Each and every items were superb in terms of taste, quality, quantity.<br/>Thanks to team Sonargaon, will be there shortly 👆🏻<br/>

Sonargaon is the North Indian cuisine restaurant of the flagship, Taj Bengal. It mimics the style of a rural kaccha house with clay-like walls and earthen look and feel. The lighting of the restaurant is kept dim to the point it feels lit only by lanterns. Cutlery and the upholstery also match the decor with furniture being mostly solid wood. The ambiance is calm and relaxing.<br/><br/>Coming to the food, Biryani is a must try. I tend to prefer Mutton Biryani at most luxury restaurants, however I can confidently say that the Chicken Biryani here is equally good. The pieces of tender chicken are cooked to perfection and the bones are very minimal. Kebabs are also worth devouring.<br/><br/>Overall, a nice place for romantic dinner and also a good place to take a large group for lunch. I had a corporate meet at this place and the staff handled large orders of different items very well. The servers made sure to ask each individual about their order. Extremely courteous staff.

Nice ambience, friendly staff and super tasty food .. Banarasi Lassi, Luchi and Kosha Mangsho ( From the Menu section of Bangla Jomidari Ranna ) is just awesome and a must try .. price is on the little higher side .. but the brand and the name makes up for that quite well ..

Is the finest dining experience in the city of Kolkata, the interiors are resembling a village, sonargoan means golden village....the food right from the kebabs to maincourse to desserts is a royal experience in itself.<br/>The kebabs are all good, maincourse i like their alu lal mirch, mirch baigan ka salan is the best i have had , stuffed anjeer kofta is made to perfection, their black and yellow dal are amazing, you must dry the gilafi naan at this place. For Desserts we ordered kulfi it is served with rabri!! Gulab jamuns are hot, delicious , they give these complimentary jaggery coconut ladoos that are my daughter's favorite.<br/>The service is brilliant.
Basant
Undoubtably this is one of the premium joints with pleasant ambiance and beautiful village theme decor, food quality is awesome ... but portions are quite small , we have ordered kabab platter which comes only with one piece of each type, Biriyani was good but not the best, paratha was awesome and so is Nalen gurer icecream

The most favorite place of mine to go for Indian food in Kolkata. The Black Dal here is sumptuous and the Gilafi Naan is delicious. The staff is very warm and welcoming. The service is very fast. I visit this place at least once a month. Great ambiance, awesome food and good service. Overall a 10/10 experience.

Hey Foodies ,<br/> Here I go with my review. So, I planned this dinner date with my family on a very special occasion. It was my parents anniversary and they love North Indian cuisine. <br/><br/> When it comes about North Indian cuisine—> Sonargaon is one of the best restro with Indian luxury ambience. <br/><br/> Ambience: The Ambience is very classy and luxurious with Indian village decor. <br/><br/>Staff : Staffs were very nice and very sober. They will suggest you their best dishes. And help you to select food item from the menu. They are decent and humble. <br/><br/>Food : 1. Banarasi Lassi -> Best lassi I’ve ever tasted. Very thick in consistency and tastes delicious. It’s heavy so, we canceled to try Biriyani and decided to go for Naan.<br/><br/>2. Murg Malai Tikka -> Soft and tender. Tastes great .<br/><br/>3. Garlic Naan -> Soft, Crispy . Tastes yumm .<br/><br/>4. Dhania Murg -> Perfect dish. Medium spicy. Very well go with the garlic naan. Thick gravy. Soft and tender chicken. <br/><br/>5. Complimentary Cake -> Yummy chocolate cake. <br/><br/>Thank you Sonargaon for this wonderful hospitality .<br/>Will visit again for sure.<br/>Foodies give it a try, you won’t regret 😊<br/>

This place is beautifully decorated with Bengali ambience. I was there with my family and had the authentic Bengali meal all of them was mouth watering. In the beginning we were served Banarasi Lassi which was very refreshing. Then came the Malai Lobster as starter. In the main course we had Steamed Basmati Rice, Ruhi fish & Murg Makhanwala. And then, to satisfy our sweet tooth we ended up with Nolen gurer ice cream. It is a nice place for a family brunch. Will look forward to visit again.

I took my small team for dinner. I can't comment much on the food as I was unwell but my team enjoyed it very much. The service could have been improved a bit, but that's okay. Overall, it was a nice experience.

Wrong cocktail order was brought. Hospitality n serving was not upto the mark. Food was not good especially bengali cuisine. Ambience is good. Need to improve hospitality and food quality in order to raise the bar.

Had an amazing lunch with my family! A perfect place in terms of it's rustic village ambience, the food and the staff. The quality of the meat was fantastic! The kebabs, the seekh, the gilafi roti and the sonargaon dal was just perfect. The spices, the sweetness, the doneness and the preparation complimented each other and we were made to believe that the food was made with a lot of love! Thank you team and keep it up!

I visited sonargaon at Taj Bengal on 20th Jan 2019. Taj has probably the best lounge in all the Kolkata 5 stars. Sonargaon restaurant is right across the promenade lounge cafe. We booked via google eazydiner. Upon arrival we were provided seat of our choice - thanks to the wonderful hospitality. <br/><br/>Sonargaon has an unique ambience depicting a indian village. The walls are rusty and looks like it has been draped in mud. The walls display unique village elements. <br/>Coming to food we ordered ganne ka raas, aam porar sharbat, murgh malai tikka, raan sonargaon and warqi paratha. <br/>We were literally blown away with the combination of warqi paratha and raan sonargaon- which is a full plate of boneless cubes of baby goat leg cooked to perfection. The green salad plate was compimentary and accompanied all dishes very well. <br/>At the end we were served complimentary mishti paan. <br/>Our server Kaushik was extremely good and served us an extra bowl of complimentary gravy to go with the paratha. Also a complimentary ganne ka raas was served to my kid. <br/>Overall this was an experience to remember. A perfect 5 from me. Hugely recommended and I would love to go back and try other dishes. <br/><br/>Waah Taj boliye !

Lovely meal at the famous Indian restaurant at Taj Bengal, Sonargaon is full of rich heritage and the same is reflected in the quality of Cuisine. We tried several dishes but the Chicken preparation with green chilli paste and the Raan- the leg of the lamb were simply outstanding. Pricing is quite high, but it’s worth the experience

Very good dinner in Sonargaon. The decor is reminiscent of a tribal village and makes for a great ambiance. Service was first class, as to be expected at a Taj property, but not always delivered. The menu showcases a variety of Indian dishes from around the country, including some Bengali dishes. All the dishes we ordered were great with perfect spicing. Good wine list too. The meal finished perfectly with mango kulfi and a special jaggery ice cream, and sweet pan. Highly recommended for a special dinner.

Arre huzoor, wah Taj Boliye——the sheer brilliance of Sonargaon will make you say these iconic words....Sonargaon lived up to our expectation in true sense of the term. We went in there to celebrate our anniversary and took banarasi lassi@₹350/glass, Raan Sonargaon @₹1600,Gosht Biriyani @₹1375,Gosht Sunheri Nalli @₹1400, Lanka Bata Murgi@₹1400 and Luchi @250 (4pcs). Service, Quality was unparalled. The complementary anniversary cake from La Patisserie & Deli-Taj’s inhouse bakery and tasted awesome. Joyati Mondal

Had gone here during puja and had there sea food thali and maha bhoj thali if i am not wrng in remembering the names. The price is quite high compared to other luxury dinnings in city. Food was not awesome but good. The fish paturi was bitter in taste though they changed it after we complained but then too it was bitter. Other then this staff behaviour was good. Hope to visit again and have a changed view that time.

Taj Bengal. Any day favourite of mine. Visited sonargaon many times but this time had to give a review. Yesterday it was a family gathering where we ordered-<br/>Paneer tikka- the best one I have ever had.<br/>Main course-<br/>Mix vegetable, paneer, daal makhni which all were great in taste.<br/>Breads- garlic naan, cheese naan, masala kulcha. These all were good in taste. Looking forward to visit this again

If you're looking for a royal place to go for lunch or dinner then this is the absolute place for you. Having lunch at the backdrop of a village sight is an amazing experience overall. We went there for lunch on Ashtami and was really satisfied with everything. 👌🏻

The Taj group has been synonymous with top-notch quality of food and impeccable service - and Sonargaon didn't disappoint.<br/>We went there for a Dashami lunch. Pre-empting the usual Durga Puja rush, we reserved a table beforehand.<br/>The interiors nicely done to reflect the rustic vibe of the bygone Zamindari era of Bengal.<br/>Once seated we were served complementary salad and pappadums. For starters we had Chatpata Rawa Batata Tikki and Hara Mattar Bhutte Palak Tawa Kebab. Both were good.<br/>For the main course we decided to go the traditional way and opted for Luchi and Aloo Dum. We also had Dal Sonargaon and rice. The luchis were light and fluffy and made an awesome combination along with the brilliant aloo dum. The Dal Sonargaon was another superb dish and went well with both rice and luchi.<br/>To wash down the sumptuous meal we had Banarasi Lassi (must try) and some fresh sugarcane juice.<br/>We ended it with some icecreams and kulfi and were given complimentary paan at the end.<br/>The service was excellent and prompt.<br/>Definitely a great place to celebrate any special occasion with family and friends.

I am always been a big fan level of taj group. Sonargaon is the team restorent. Which looks like a Indian village. The cuisine is also Indian.<br/>The prices are a bit pinch in the pocket but the flavor, quality and the quantity covers it all.<br/>The service is excellent and feels very comfortable.

The Taj Group of hotels are synonymous to a splendor job at providing their customers with great food, classic ambience and a wholesome experience when they visit either for a meal or for a stay.<br/>We tried the food at Taj Sonargaon and it was splendid. The place is like an old village, with a very rustic vibe. <br/><br/>The tables were set up beautifully and upon seating we were served complimentary salad and pappadums. We tried the malai lobster in appetisers, which was a relatively fresh (not what you ll get in coastal fresh) lobster, marinated in creamy spices and then baked in a tandoori oven. The presentation was really nice with the carcass portion.<br/>For mains, we ordered the creamy dal makhni which was delicious and along with that Mutton Kosha which is a spicy gravy dish native to Bengal. Along with that we had the laccha parathas. <br/><br/>It was hands down one of the best meals I have had in Kolkata.

We booked a table from zomato I received a confirmation message along with a call. They called us since we were late and they were really polite. Our table was set when we arrived there . The dinner started with them serving salads and papad in the beginning followed by us ordering the main course. There mixed vegetable was served hot and tasted really nice but the dal makhani was pure bliss I have not had this taste in a really long time. We were served with a cake since we were celebrating followed by paan making it an complete experience. the staff was polite, courteous , helpful , respectful. The prices are a little high but it's a five star after all. Also the cake served was moist and eggless.

Very disappointing. It was one of my old time favourites but the dinner last night really put me off . We went there for some celebrations but it turned into a horrific night with me ending up having food poisoning. We ordered for non veg platter and veg platter kababs which was ok. Then in main course we ordered prawns which was horrible . So hard and full of tomatoes . The daal sonargaon was also very bad and so was the mix veg. We instantly told the chef but Nothing was done about it . After having the meal I instantly started feeling unwell and then he horrific night began . Very disappointing

Very good service. Took my family out for the Sunday lunch. But the South Indian festival was terrible. Absolutely terrible. First two appams were misshapen. Then the next 2 were proper. Then again misshapen. That’s not cool. Appams should be consistent. Ambience-wise sonargaon is fine, but the taste of the South Indian food festival was just not proper. Crab was too dry and flakey. The ₹250 Malabar parathas were as if sourced from spencer’s (my dad’s own words).

Located at the ground floor of Taj Bengal, the ambiance is very ethnic, I had visited this place twice. Once we were seated on the first floor of the restaurant which is a small place and on the second time on the ground floor. <br/><br/>Tried the aam porar shorbat which was nice, the show was taken away by the Kakori kebab and Raan sonargaon and a must have according to me. On the main course we tried the dhania mug which was OK, the taste could have been better along with kulcha.<br/><br/>Overall, in terms of ambiance, service and food this place is a must if you want some good north Indian food.

It was a birthday dinner...bet U one of the best place to have a north indian food in town Staff Mr Atul was very polite and courteous..the ambience is very soothing and royal...years after year they maintain the same taste look and feel

Posh fine dining restaurant for Bengali traditional food. Benarshi lassi was awsum. Then in appetizers kakori kabab & fish was upto the mark. We took polao along with sabz nizami hundi, nalli ghost, chingri malaicurry & bhetki jhal. All preparations were upto the mark & more than satisfactory. & offcrs cost is very high not to mention. But presentations, staff courtesy was good.

The food is good. The ambience is okay. The stuff were very nice and polite. But the food is excessively overpriced and the quantity is also quite less. I was there to celebrate my anniversary last evening. Had a nice time but the pocket pinch was too heavy..

Good food . Just love this place . This place defines luxury and the best part service is good . The staff is helpful and ambience is mind blowing 👍🏻

The ambience was really nice. The food was extremely soft. I know that sounds weird but you gotta taste it to know how it really felt. The chicken kebabs were so soft. Same with the biriyani rice. Loved it 💕

This was a very coveted visit. Went here last pujo. The ambiance is brilliant as expected being a restaurant inside The Taj Bengal. The staff courtesy is extremely professional and prompt. We opted for the special non veg thali. The food was good. The only thing I didn’t like in the thali was the topshe fish fry. The Bhapa Doi is one of the best I have had. Must visit for the experience.

We visited this place for my parents anniversary. The decor is just like it used to be a few years ago, nothing much has changed- it’s as beautiful as before. We started by ordering Aam panna and paneer tikka. Both of them were very good. Next in line we ordered badami aloo, which was very tasty. That brings us to an end to the starters. For the main course, we ordered the kaali dal and a potato vegetable (which I cannot recall!), nevertheless it was good! Garlic naan was delicious and very soft. So, overall food was amazing and so was the service .. but the best part is yet to come — Taj proved their hospitality when they got me the promised cake (yes, specially made!) it was overwhelming.. so if I have to sum up the experience—- they made my parents anniversary just right! Thankyou Team sonargoan ! :) will surely visit again!!

I wish I could rate this place with 100 stars! Simply delicious food and very classy! I went for a date and it was perfect. We ordered hara bhara kebab which was utterly yummy and the main course was very filling too. I am totally in love with this place and yes I am going to be back very soon! 👍🏻

Finally glad to be back in Zomato.. Homecoming is always memorable specially when it is greeted with a lunch at Taj Bengal.. Went there for lunch through a pre-reservation and was greeted with extreme politeness right from the entrance to the restaurant which is a duplex at the ground floor of Taj.. If you want to enjoy a luxurious Indian spread in the settings of a Bengali Zamindar house, this is the place to be.. The décor gives you a rustic charm yet a sophisticated elegance.. Earthenware and brass utensils being used as props to go with the theme.. Even hurricane lamps and mud finish on the walls gives one the feeling of rural Bengal.. Service was top notch as expected, no scope for complaints, only issue was the serving time a bit too long given the high benchmark.. They served us complimentary Papad and Assortment of Salads to make the wait a little more tolerable.. Even those tasted delectable and noteworthy.. Coming to food we had:<br/><br/>Martabani Achari Murg Tikka: Boneless chicken cubes marinated in home-made pickle and charred to perfection.. The chicken was fork tender, nicely seasoned..<br/><br/>Kakori Kebab: The signature dish of this joint and probably introduced to Kolkata foodies by Sonargaon only.. It was as soft as it could be, literally fell of when taken from the tray to plate.. What more can I say about it.. Loved the presence of saffron but you gotta taste to feel it.. Passionately Recommended..<br/><br/>Dum Gosht Biryani: Biryani cooked in dum pukht style.. Honestly I am a bit disappointed.. I understand it is a more delicate and subtle preparation but when it comes to biryani need to be bursting with flavors and aroma.. And I had authentic biryanis in almost all provinces of India including dum pukht variation.. But this is way too dry and can’t demand to be a better version of any..<br/><br/>Paneer Kulcha: Soft, flaky, generously filled with a spicy paneer filling.. Goes well with the side dishes..<br/><br/>Sunheri Nalli Gosht: Extremely tender lamb shanks cooked in a rich gravy subtle in flavors and spices.. The mutton was cooked with utmost expertise and extreme patience.. Goes well with Kulcha..<br/><br/>Murg Makhanwala: Yet another mainstream dish.. Chicken Tikka finished with a tomato gravy, highly creamy, tangy thick gravy.. A bit heavy on the palate but surely it was my cheat day..<br/><br/>Parsi Kulfi: Can’t thing of a better way to finish of a grand meal.. But then again for anyone who has lived in Mumbai surely gonna give it a miss.. Not great neither disappointing, a borderline experience..<br/><br/>Overall, places lijke Taj Bengal exuberates legacy and heritage from tip to toe.. It’s not just about the taste of food, rather the experience which hogs foodies over the years and will continue to do so.. The experience was quintessential but wish I could have said the same about the food as well in totality.. Our total cheque was Rs. 8525/- (all incl.) for 3 people..<br/><br/>Food: 3.5/5<br/><br/>Pricing: 3/5<br/><br/>Service: 4.5/5<br/><br/>Ambiance: 5/5

I haven't been to ITC since my last experience there, although the manager did ask me to come over again. Decided to try out this place since it's considerably closer to my house. <br/><br/>The seating is moderately comfortable. I'd interested know why the tables are placed so close though. Probably a nightmare for people with serious claustrophobia. <br/><br/>Couple of things about the food. Dal Sonargaon> Dal Bukhara @ ITC Sonar any day. It was absolutely amazing. The aam porar shorbot was too sweet for my taste. The smoky flavour was missing as well. The kakori kebabs are to die for. Absolutely amazing. Shania Murg was alrigt. Could have been better. <br/><br/>The lobster dish was disappointing. I don't remember the exact name but I think that was a very big let down and probably a mistake.<br/><br/>Will be careful next time. The garlic butter naans are amazing. <br/>

Best dine out spot in the city. The ambience and warm welcoming nature of staff members was really admirable.<br/>Gilafi naan is a must try here, please do not judge the naan by its size. We felt full after single serving itself.<br/>Recommend-Gilafi naan<br/>Murgh Makkhanwala

Have been eating out at this restaurant once a year since childhood and must say their food quality & taste is the same. All the cuisines have an unique good taste. Their fish dishes are also very good. I think the food taste & quality in all the Taj’s throughout d world is really awesome.

As the name suggests, the decor here that of a village. The staff is courteous and very prompt in their service.<br/>We went there on a Sunday, and had to wait for about 15 minutes to get a table, hence would suggest to pre-book a table.<br/>Coming to the food, the Kakori kabab was amazing. Rann Sonargaon was nothing much special. The chicken and mutton biriyani was also tasty. The mutton was cooked to perfection and was tender.<br/>Overall, a good experience, exactly how you would expect at The Taj.

Was there for a dinner with my wife lovely ambience yum food service was also good but I felt the employees are very gender bias as in they asked me how is the food never mind he was trying to ask both of us but when it came for payment time my wife gave her credit card but when it came for signing the credit card slip they came back to me and I had to say him politely to get it signed it from my wife, don’t know was it a casual error or just by chance any ways all good looking forward to visit again!

Dal sonar and gilafi naan - one of the best combinations to try here. The preparation of paneer is also very nice - melts in the mouth, and tastes fantastic. The ambience, service and food quality is what you would expect a 5star rated restaurant to deliver. <br/>

Being 5star as expected very welcoming service, undoubtedly One of the Best North Indian in town with quite atmosphere and Royal touch ! Dal Sonargaon dum paneer with kulcha is worth trying . It’s a Must Go Place !!

Went for dinner last night and I must say, the ambience is amazing. The staff are extremely cordial and well-mannered, exactly how you expect them to be when you visit Taj. Coming to the food, we were served lassi/aam porar shorbot/ganna ka ras for drinks as wanted. For starters, we ate kakori kebabs which were uber soft and filled with taste, fish malai Tikka which was beautiful too. Coming to the mains, we first ordered for luchi, narkel diye chholar daal and a cauliflower dish prepared in Bengali style all of which were up to the mark, especially the luchi was so puffed up when it first appeared on the table, it won my heart. Next we had a portion of rice, with their famous chingri malai curry which had huge prawns in a delicious coconut curry, paabda maach prepared with potatoes and brinjals( a typical Bengali dish) which reminded me of my grandmother's cooking, absolutely delicious! Because we were a big group of people who went for dinner yesterday, there were yet a few more items which were ordered most of which I tasted and review further. This includes kosha mangsho which was absolutely beautiful, paneer kulcha/butter garlic naan/ lachha paratha with butter chicken which are good options which can be tried if one wants to try their North Indian options. Lastly coming to the most awaited part of any dinner: Dessert! We ordered their famous 'nolen gur' ice cream and the parsi kulfi. Both of them tasted heavenly. I almost cried when I had a scoop of the ice cream, it was THAT amazing! A must try for anybody who wants a luxurious experience plus a great taste of Bengali/Punjabi food when in Kolkata.

Well a one word review for Sonargaon, Taj Bengal :<br/>Beeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssssteeeesssssssssssssssssssttttttttttttttttttttttttttt 💞<br/>I personally know the service and production team of this place. They are doing a great job.

I was taken here by my friend as my surprise birthday treat.Undoubtedly staff was friendly, ambience was superb but sadly enough food was not upto the mark both quality and quantity wise.Small joints serve better food. Not expected from Taj group of hotels.Ordered non veg kabab platter, mutton biryani and kanchalonka murgi. All were bleak in taste. But they do serve a lot of salad, raita, papd and chutney complimentary.Since it was my birthday I was served a big chunk of red velvet cake which is my favourite and it was also complimentary from their side.Seriously it was the winner of the day.Tasted heavenly. Will definitely go back to taste their bakery items.

Visiting this eating hub in the luxury hotel Taj Bengal is an out of the world feeling... The superb ambience and the quality of service makes it apart, distinguishes it from the rest and makes one evening a memorable experience... The soft music and the staff being concerned with just a nod from the guest would give one a royal feeling... A perfect location to hang out for business meetings or even with your special ones :) :) :)

Have been to Sonar Gaon a dozen times, but the new menu change has brought about some pleasant changes!<br/><br/>We tried the Sonar Gaon dal, dum paneer and the subz handi all of which were amazing. The rotis too were spot on.<br/><br/>Although would like some smoked options in the veggies section.<br/>

I dropped in when I was in mood for some fine dine but to my surprise my eating experience was very average. No presentation, average taste, very basic ingredients used(not of expected quality), average service. I don't know what went wrong. I tried chicken makhanwala, nawabi subz handi, butter naan, garlic naan, onion chilli kulcha salad and other condiments. It felt very regular seriously really disappointed. What I loved about my whole dining experience here was the paan that they served after the meal.

Sonargaon is your typical 5 star restaurant which delivers the quality of service and taste expected of it. The ambiance and decor is classy, and the food is simply delicious. The Black Dal and Masala Kulcha are a must have. The staff is hospitable and patient, though we did require to wait for someone to take our order, but thankfully it wasn't long. Overall a good experience.

Went for a family lunch. Ambience is of old royal palace. Courteous staffs were there to welcome us. Ordered pachphoron paneer tikka. It was soft. Aran sonargaon was great to taste. Macchli gandharaj could have been better. Sunheri nalli gosht is a must have item there. The flesh was soft and too tasty. Chicken dish and mochar ghonto were also good. In the end nolengur er ice cream and pan were the perfect ways to end the meal. <br/><br/>Could have given 5 out of five but they took nearly thirty mins to serve the food. It could have been better

I still remember about the Parsi Kulfi... It was an unique dessert I ever had... <br/>Undoubtedly the pricing was high... But it worth a visit...

The first dinner on the new year ought to be special and with the same intention we headed for Sonargaon (translated in English as Golden Village) . The ambiance of the duplex restaurant awestruck me due to its simplicity yet very close eye been kept towards every detailing on each wall and ceiling. The interior of the restaurant depicting story of a small village.<br/>Thanks to prior reservation we got our table on arrival at the restaurant. Post settling down went through the menu and shortlisted Dhania Murg, Dal Sonargaon, Gilafi Kulcha and Onion Chilli Kulcha. The chicken dish and the dal was so creamy that we were lost in its taste. The air filled fluffy Gilafi Kulcha was one of its kind which has no filling of masala. Tad sweet in taste but makes such a lovely combination with Dal. But Onion Chilli Kulcha stole our heart, was a perfect marriage with main courses on our table.<br/>Will be injustice if we don't mention that flavor bursting crispy papad at the beginning of our culinary journey and the Mitha Paan to end our experience in a royal way. Wah Taj!!<br/>Service was super prompt and servers were so courteous. Price will be on the higher side but can ignored for those special days.

Birthday and an inevitable visit. More crowded than expected, probably due to the festive season. Yet service was impressive. The lady who was waiting our table, an intern by the name Baani (if I can remember correctly) made sure of that. <br/><br/>The complementary Masala Papad which is less spicy than the ones they serve at ITC, kept my mouth running. As the starter arrived, Bhatti ke Murg, the centre of attention changed. A tandoori chicken of sorts, Bhatti ke Murg is cooked perfectly, with the right amount of spicy sour. The chatni of course, could've been better. But the meat itself, delicious!<br/><br/>Tandoori Kulchas with a filling of cottage cheese, makes one wonder how such simple food can at times be surprisingly good. Sunheri Nalli Gosht to go with it. The pieces of mutton succulent, the gravy exceptionally delicious, irresistible. <br/><br/>Some Dum Gosht Biriyani too in the end. Not the usually overspiced type we have at the regular eateries. Different taste here. Raita dense enough to smoothen your palette. A bill of Rs 5300, quite satisfactory!<br/>

Dinner at the Sonargaon , The Taj hotel was an amazing experience. The ethnicity of its ambience, extravagant decorum , courteousness of the staff, beautiful food presentation everything will just spark up your mood. Biriyani was an exceptional example here,I have a never had such a light yet so tasty biriyani.

It was our anniversary lunch and we zeroed to Sonargaon. Being a speciality restaurant it has the most important rule which they do follow is "Serve it Fresh" we had to wait a little but it's all worth it.. we ordered.. Aam Pana Shorbot, Kakori Kebab, Raan Sonargaon (their speciality dish), Mutton Biriyani and Parsi Kuli followed by yummiest 'Paan'. The decor gives you Sonar Graam Bangla feel... We absolutely loved it... Well mannered staffs and beautiful instrumental, everything was just perfect.. Kakori Kebab was as smooth as butter..Raan Sonargaon is Lamb delicacy, light flavours and aroma of the same made it heavenly.. the biriyani was not upto the mark.. as we are just in love with our KOLKATA STYLE BIRIYANI and no other style can beat it. We missed the potato chunk badly :( Parsi Kulfi is more like malai Kulfi but the style is definitely different, we loved it as well and Paan was complementary which was like Sone pe Suhagaa.. or Jol na chaitei brishti kind of... Thank you Sonargaon for making our special day memorable with your mouth watering delicacies.

Visited this place during Durga Puja'17. You will definitely get a warm welcome from the staffs. They are very well behaved. Ambience is very good. <br/>Now coming to food. We ordered Aam Porar Shorbot, Kakori Kebab and Dum Gosht Biryani. Kebab was very good although I didn't like the Biryani at all. Overall it was a so-so experience.

Food is the finest thing here.<br/>But service is a little issue here. We went on Sunday, the place was full. Starters took some 35-40 minutes to come. Main course - dal and paneer were just excellent. <br/>However biryani took some good 15 minutes to come while we were waiting.<br/>Also they forgot to offer us pan after the dinner. <br/><br/>Overall, may be a few more waiters should be appointed on sunday. <br/>Else all good

One of the oldest joints in kolkata for Indian food and you can’t go wrong with it. It never disappoints you though make sure you have a reservation beforehand.<br/>We usually call for dahi ke seekh kebab and and bhatti ke badami aloo is an all time favorite.<br/>The gilafi kulcha is a must have. Its super soft and fluffy and simply melts in your mouth. The black dal is another speciality. We also called for the paneer sonar gaon and subz nizami handi which were also good.<br/>Whenever in doubt as to where to go for indian, head straight to sonar gaon! But yes, being a 5-star its a liitle steep on the pocket.

Indian cuisine on your mind then this is the place for you. For as long as I can remember this has been a restaurant that serves the best Dal Makhni ever. With an assortment of dishes on the menu and a well stocked bar Sonargaon gives you a wonderful and flavourful journey into Indian cuisine.<br/><br/>Tried the paneer and makai starters and the makai kofta and dal makhni with naans and tandoori roti for Main course. Absolutely outstanding is all that I can say. The Dal has remained truly awesome but the makai kofta just stole the thunder. A warning though would be appropriate as it’s very rich so advice would be to go slow.<br/><br/>Wonderful experience,<br/><br/>Cheers,
Avik Das
The name says it all... still over the years the standard of food is quite trustworthy. The variation of menu needs to be updated. But still its the best of the best.
