Review Zaranj - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Debashish Mukherjee
At the snout of Sudder street connecting the Jawaharlal Nehru road sits this amazing restaurant. Fine dining. The prominence somewhat obscured by the pavement covered with dirty plastics of hawkers(oh! What will happen to this City of Joy). The ambience is quite Victorian with comfortable sitting. Dim lights and sets of 4-8. There is a fountain running and one has to mind the steps . It's multi stepped. There is fresh room inside. The stewards are old, well behaved and experienced, helping out in choosing the best dish. The food is delectable, hot and classical nawabi. Don't order at one go. The portion sizings are sumptuous and please order the bread - one at a time . They serve hot mouth watering dishes . Delightful overall experience. It may feel stiff on the pocket but it's not. Prefer a lunch out , as parking becomes cool and one can over eat to skip the dinner !!! Have fun guys . Right next to the Indian National Museum. Plan a visit there and eat lunch here . Happy times ......

Located near Indian Museum, Zaranj offers fine-dining North Indian cuisine. The ambience and atmosphere is wonderful — one of the best in the city, in my opinion. The food was up to the mark. The kebabs are especially worth mentioning, they were soft and grilled to perfection. Loved the naan, biriyani and the side dishes too. Staff were very helpful and courteous. The food presentation was pretty great as well. The price is a bit on the higher side, but the taste of the food quite compensated for it. Pocket pinch is about INR 2,500 for two people. A definite recommend if you are looking to try North Indian cuisine in a fine dining restaurant.

Superb Ambience. Courteous and helpful staffs. We ordered one murg biriyani and first we thought food was bit expensive but, then they provided green salad, raita, papad and gravy along with that biriyani so that was worthy. Biriyani was tasty as well and place was hygienic. Will go there again

I went to Zaranj with my friends and to our surprise we found Zaranj amazing. The ambience was so good with soothing music playing in the background. Each and every food was so well cooked and delicious. The quality and quantity of the food totally complements the price. There is valet parking available so no need to be worried about parking.

One of best restaurants in Calcutta- I have been visiting since early 90 s - food quality and service consistently excellent - my favourite is their lamb tilla kebab - miss the silver cutlery and plates though.
Ritupriya Mullick
The ambience and the food was good , but the service was abit slow. Dont try Chana dish its was not good . After all the presentation and the place was so good.

The restaurant is just adjacent to India meusem at the end of sudder street towards park street. If you are coming from Esplanade don't take the fly way you have to take a side road. The restaurant serves Asian food the ambience is good. The food quality and taste is truly authentic. I used to work near by and visit the restaurant often for lunch.

Excellent place for fine dining. A little costly...but excellent food, service and ambience. Has an old world charm to it. Beware of the steps leading to the washroom though...unmindfully one might miss those...

One of the best North Indian fine dining restaurants serving delicious North West Frontier Cuisine, Mughlai Cuisine and Punjabi Cuisine. Great ambiance, terrific food, superb hospitality. A great family restaurant, serving delicious kebabs, parathas, curries and biriyani.

Located at No. 26, Jawaharlal Nehru Rd, Near Indian Museum, Fire Brigade Head Quarter, New Market Area, Dharmatala, Taltala, Kolkata, West Bengal 700016, Zaranj was one of the most coveted destinations for North Western Frontier Cuisine. It continues to do regular business on signature platters of paneer tikka and machhli chaman. Try the Zaranji raan (rum-spiked whole roasted leg) and machhli Begum Bahar (bekti cooked in a tomato gravy flavoured with carom seeds), Hyderabadi gosht biryani and the sesame-studded murgh til tikka. This is not the place for the pocket conscious; prices are steep in comparison to most standalone restaurants in the city.

We were the first booking they received after <br/>lockdown. The service was slow at first but then they picked up and the food was finger licking delicious. It was my mom’s bday and they made it perfect with a free champagne. Totally made our night. Definitely going back for the food!

It’s a very good restaurant that serves North Indian food with great ambience, nice interior and great service by the staff. I loved the Murgh Makhani & Lamb Rogan Josh of this place and also not to miss Murgh Tandoori which is very good. The price of this restaurant is on the bit higher side but it’s worthy... Bar is also there with this restaurant and valet parking is provided by the restaurant.

A quiet and breezy evening well spent with family at Zaranj. Food is great, amazing flavour and accompaniments are just perfect. Great place to unwind.
Avishek Ghosh
A great place for quiet and enjoyable evenings. Loved the fish amritsari fish tikka. Chinese food is also very good. They have amazing cocktails. Loved the LIIT.
Souradeep Sen
The best fine dining experience in Kolkata! Delicious food, especially the Raan and Zafrani Biryani. Debashish Basu served us with a very warm smile. The food portions were more than sufficient and the quantity and quality justified the prices. Finally, they charge very less tax, so, we were honestly very surprised. Will definitely visit again for the food and the staff. Note: The ambience is very romantic for a date!
Disha Mullick
Excellent place to dine out. I was overwhelmed with their hospitality.<br/>Food was good quality at the same time it was rich n spicy. So people having gastritis or digestion problem, please ask them to make it light. Overall, it is a must visit.
Nilanjan Bose
The food quality was pathetic. We did not get what was shown in the menu, we ordered pork and there hardly seemed to be any pork in the food that we got, honestly everything is overpriced.
Nakul Lahoti
Paneer and mix veg was sour... The cream used had turned stale. Fresh lime soda was without fizz. Service was equally bad..
Utsha Mondal
My favorite restaurant intown since childhood. The food is always excellent
Ankita Hamirwasia
The food service was very slow. We were sitting in a large table and the servers were super confused. We ordered veg food while the order had egg chunks. Disappointed with the service and quality of the food

This restaurant is located at the tip of sudder street just beside INDIAN MUSEUM. The ambiance was overall good. Food was great while the starters could have been better. It's also a bit overpriced and service wasn't upto the mark at all. Overall it's a great family restaurant if you are thinking to have some rich indian food.<br/>Service- 3/5<br/>Food -4/5<br/>Ambiance-4/5<br/>Price -3/5<br/><br/>Zaranj Restaurant

Great food, courteous staff, nice ambiance, paneer starter was too good, made non spicy food for our children. Thanks
Snehaal Deshmukh
It’s the best fine dine restaurant located in New market area and they serve delicious North Indian Cuisine, Mughlai Cuisine and Punjabi Cuisine. Ambiance is great. A great family restaurant, serving delicious kebabs, parathas, curries and biriyani. Food quality and quantity are good. The behavior of the staffs are also very good.

When one thinks of fine dining one thinks of Zaranj. It gives a very royal feel with its ambience and service. Coming to the food, mostly everything is well prepared. The tandoori aaloo is exceptional. The dahi kababs can be given a miss. The rotis are good with the exception of the Kabuli naan. The dal is well made. The gulab jamuns were not upto the mark.<br/>My only problem with zaranj, and the reason for the lower rating is the pricing. It's very expensive. I get fine dining, I get quality food, and I am ready to pay for the entire experience. But despite that, the prices can be better regulated for a person to make a frequent visit.
Hungerology17
A hands down premium dining experience @zaranj and the auspicious occasion just called for it. A perfect outing with family and the food matched with lovely decor and ambience just had us discussing about all throughout our return journey to home
Joshakila
The ambience is now up to the mark compared to all the new places that are mushrooming. The food was tasty but we were disappointed with the drinks. Suggestions by the manager helped us to decide the order.
CHIRAG
Lacchedar tawa paratha was crispy & mouth watering! A great food experience!

Been here for dinner on the occasion of Anirban's pre-birthday bash tonight i.e. 22-sep-2019.<br/><br/>The staff were very generous & courteous.<br/>The ambience was really nice.<br/>We had a pre-reserved table & thus the booking was promptly recognised.<br/>We availed 2+2 on drink offer on zomato gold - and to my surprise they dint have any drink selectiom restrictions here. Any drink qualifies for the 2+2 offer (30ml for liquors)<br/>The only bit is that the food is quite over-expensive!<br/>One plate of biriyani cost us rs 725!<br/>And the service could a be bit more prompt.<br/><br/>Other than these two, we had quite satisfactory time here at this restaurant.<br/><br/>Wevordered Irish whisky & awadhi chicken biriyani.<br/>The photos are attached for reference.<br/>

I have been in this restaurant so many times and everytime I feel homecoming. Food is always top-notch and so as the service. A special mention to their bar tender for such a special mocktail. Keep up the good work.

Want to indulge in one of the best dal makhnis the city has to offer? Head to Zaranj. The meal consisting of a simple dal makhni , lachcha paratha and paneer is immensely satisfying and it qualifies as comfort food. The ambiance is also soothing and the staff is friendly.
Hetal Thanky
A perfect place for a family dinner , the kebabs at this place are splendid, love the tandoori stuffed alu, panner tikkas , the tandoori gucci mushroom was only average.<br/>The food we ordered channa, palak cream , yellow dal and rotis..all piping hot and delicious.would definately visit it again.

This was our second visit to the legendary restaurant in new market area. We bought two coupons from nearbuy of three course non veg dinner of Rs 1199 each for four of us. For starters we had murgh nawabi, machli masala kabab. Mutton rogan josh and bhuna gosht zaranj along with butter nun, garlic nun and kulcha for mains. In desserts we tried kulfi with faloda and chocolate ice cream. Of all the items the rogan josh deserve special mention as it literally melts in the mouth. The staff were very courteous and helpful and the ambiance was really nice.

Zaranj makes the best dal makhni in Calcutta and consistently has had the most wonderful staff. Its hospitable and the food is excellent! Tandoori Jhenga ( a prawn dish) is definitely a must try. To top it off, the ambience is extremely pleasant.

Have visited this place last December for Christmas brunch. I have brought 3 nearby coupon meal. The ambience is quite nice. Food was totally bland and tasteless. The only thing which i liked was gratin which was excellent and the mocktails. Dal and paneer were not good and aloo in the biriyani was undercooked. Naan was also not upto the mark.
Nitin Bhartia
Well i visited this place on 29th april 2019. I heared so heart warming comments of this place that I nedded to visit it atleast once. Yes this is a great place to see, sit & drink, but i found this place not upto exactly how it is exaggerated. <br/>To call a waiter i had to wait for like 15 mins, was just twisting my head here and there so that anyone would come. The taste of the food was average and not that wow. Well if you visit one of the costliest restaurant in town, you expect some good food. we cannot admire the ambience for such a price.<br/>Its a total waste of money, infact some cheaper restaurants have great taste than this place.
Yash Jalan
A perfect family restaurant for food lovers. Dal makhani is just amazing here and one must order their laccha paratha which is very famous. Staffs were very professional unlike other restaurants and food was again very tasty
Rohan Sarin
Zaranj had retained its class of old. Even though it is expensive, it serves some of the best dal Makhani and Lachchha Paratha in Kolkata. The dahi Kebabs melt in your mouth and the service is exemplary as well.
Pragya Sharaf
The experience never fails to disappoint. My go to place for their flavourful dahi kebabs. The service and ambience are also really good and worth it.
Gaurav Churiwala
The ambience was very good and staff was courteous. We ordered one veg platter and veg biryani and both we're awesome. Definitely a go to place for north Indian cuisine.<br/>
Parnika Agarwal
Being a regular customer here feels bad to give a bad review but dont have an option. Its understandable that it is sunday so the place is crowded but when a customer is already sitting to have its food u should give the attention to them rather than make them wait for 15 mins for a finger bowl and attend new customer. After giving bill no one is even bothered to give the balance and wait for other 10 mins. The manager is also least concerned about their regular customers. Feels bad as we are regulars and always get the best.
Rupesha Sheth
Amazing vegan food specially the starters like tandoori aloo n dahi ke kabab the mirchi paratha are so unique I have never ever had any where before . I really appreciate that they have started with soups I always had this question why there is no soup n only shorba.😊and believe me manchow soup is just the right.
Rij K
Love the food! Staff is really courteous and helpful! Best Indian food in Kolkata! I, being a vegetarian - totally vouch for this restaurant. Been going here for years and totally recommend!

On Sunday I had gone to Zaranj for dinner<br/>Not satisfied with a starter I wrote the same on their review card<br/>Zaranj took my comments very seriously , moreover my entire order was repeated and sent to my house.<br/>A very nice gesture<br/>Looking forward to visit again

Now a days many new restaurants are opening in Kolkata but still some old great restaurants giving some competition to them. Yesterday I went to zaranj with my foody friends. Old charm still there. Lovely ambience and still serving great food. I had Subzee Kadhaiwala, Khumbh Hara Dhania, Maa ki dal, Navratan kofta and tandoori veg platter. All tasted delicious.<br/>
Mrinal Naik
Had Dinner yesterday with few business clients .... They wanted to have Hyderabadi Biryani so took them there...they all really enjoyed it. Over all good food. Even Vegetarian food was good.

Zaranj is known for their Laccha Parathas in Kolkata. It was on my wish list for a long time and finally I paid a visit. The ambience is just fantastic. The interiors and seating arrangements gives vintage feeling to dine here. There is inhouse fountain which is quite appealing and which is what it makes it kinda exclusive place to dine at. Perfect for Wine & Dine.Ordered "Paneer Makhmali" in pair with "Lachha Parathas" which turned out to be a fantastic combination. In Breads Section I strongly recommend their lachha parathas.Quantity & Taste was A one. They serve food in silver coated utensils which again make it different from others.<br/><br/>Prices are very high.Service is good.<br/><br/>P.S. - Before Serving order they give complimentary Papads & Long cut Salads which was fine.
Hitesh
Zaranj is a premium restaurant which has passed the test of time and has emerged victoriously! The food, the ambience are both out of the world! The long queue maybe an issue but as we say It's worth the wait!<br/>I personally love the Dhai Kebab, Laccha Paratha, Dal Makhani amongst the other things served out here!<br/>This place is a must visit!
Mohammad Saad
Nice place. Too overpriced food but tasty. Ambience is still the same it use to be no renovation nothing. but food Is good. Its a pocket pinch of atleast 100pp
Kriti Jhunjhunwala
I had visited the restaurant with family on Sunday evening for dinner. This was probably the 50th time we were going there. So as usual We ordered for the dahi ke kebab, their speciality but then after a very long time it was not at all upto the mark and tasted very salty. So, at the end in the reviews I mentioned the same. <br/>Now, the very next day which was a Monday, the restaurant/manager sent across the kebabs along with kaali dal, butter naan , papad , the dips and all right from new market area to salt lake at around 10pm. I was surprised to receive such a warm and excellent service and the effort put towards this. And this time it tasted so good, like always. The manager , Mr. Arup Chakraborty accompanied the order with a very polite letter as well. <br/>Thank you so much for a being so hospitable and taking the review so seriously . I am sure such services will take you places. Kudos to the effort especially.😀

A perfect family restaurant for veg and non veg both. Dal makhani was just awesome along with masala kulcha. Loved it! Must visit the place. Ambience was too good. Staffs were very polite.
Pranab Garg
Was a personal favourite but have gone after many years gap but sadly now it's a dusty picture of the old glory. Looks worn out lethargic with no spark. Food is the priciest and retains the taste except for some items.
Vedant Agarwal
A great place for family dinner. Smooth ambience coupled with the great food make it a must go place in Kolkata. However, the temperature control went a bit too hot which made it unpleasant to sit at the end but that was an exception. Overall 4.5/5!
Namrata Jain
Service and ambiance is top notch. Really enjoyed the experience. We ordered the dahi kebab, paneer makhani, Maa ki dal, navratan kofta and various rotis including lachcha parantha. Everything was delicious! Especially dal. Didn’t get any desserts though. The food comes out a little slow, so plan ahead on the bread. Arub was an excellent host.
Susmita Paul Chatterjee
Today we have a horrible experience while went to dine in zaranj.very so so quality with poor quantity marked itself special with a horrible price.i have experienced many famous hang out places in kolkata but zaranj is the hopeless one.prices are tremendous high with disgusted management.the most idiotic scene was happened when they serve fish kabab without spoon.i can assure that i at least never visit the place. <br/> <br/>
Harsh Bondia
The food "here" brings me to this review<br/><br/>We ordered for Indian and to my surprise I didn't like any of the preparation. Specially the black dal here sucks.<br/>There is no exotic taste in the preparation just normal food.I personally would recommend to stay away<br/>"The review is right from the table"
Anika Zaman
Zaranj is really expensive for a normal restaurant , even 7 star restaurants are less expensive than this one. Food was nothing so special. Not worth it at all.
Abhay Kejriwal
The food there is amazing. Very tasty. The time taken to serve is also very less. Very happy with the service and food. Highly recommend it to all.
Pratik Khandelwal
It is one of the most overrated place I have been to, from taste to the service, everything was disappointing. The old legacy of Zarang in North Indian food has clearly faded now.
Ajoy Garg
This is a lovely place for family... dinner....we are frequent visitors..... though it's pricey.... but worth every penny..... looking forward to going again sometime......soon<br/>
Atanu Maulik
Among the standalone Indian restaurants in the city, Zaranj is perhaps the priciest. So I was always skeptical about dining there, unsure whether it offers a good value for money. But when I saw an offer on nearbuy, where they are offering a set menu at a reasonable price, I decided to give this place a try and having eaten here, I have to say that my initial skepticism was well warranted. Because frankly, I didn't find anything exceptional about this place.<br/>The restaurant looks a bit dusty and worn out. I looks like one of those old royal palaces whose glory days are long gone. We were there for lunch (admittedly on a weekday) and upon entering that place the staff switched on the AC, fountains etc. and all throughout we were the only ones there. So it didn't appear to be a very busy place. Coming to the food, we got a chance to try out quite a few items, the kebabs, dal, naan, pulao etc. The taste was average. There was no stand out item. In the end I was happy that I was not paying the full prices for the dishes, because there are a lot of restaurants in Kolkata which can serve equally good or even better food at less than half the price.
Kalyan Panja
The ambiance here is quite nice with a warm lighting and chic interiors. The service is efficient and the waiting time depends on the rush. The food quality is decent and similar to other restaurants in the category and is nothing exceptional or has one signature dish that is unforgettable for which somebody may refer their friends or family members.

Went there on Saptami night with my parent. The place has quite calm vibes which was much needed after a busy day of pandal hopping. Their hospitality is also unparalleled. Coming to the food, we were quite spoilt for choices in the kebab section so they suggested we try their Murgh Nawabi kabab which was hands down delish. I surely felt they could have been a been more generous on their portion sizes. For main course we ordered the basic mix fried rice and chilli chicken which were again very exquisite. But my complaint regarding their quantity remains. So Saptami night ended well at Zaranj. I will definitely recommend this place to all.

Durga Pujo is not about pandal hopping only... We, Bengalis can't think of a celebration without food...<br/>On the auspicious day of Choturthi me, along with my foodie mates visited Zaranj and had awesome lunch there... It was authentic bengali food... But the best think I liked was that Phoolkopir Daak Bungalow.... This was very innovative...<br/><br/>And not just the food, I loved the ambiance too... Just go and visit their pujo special menu : dashabhuja...<br/><br/>Now if you ask me to give it a rating, I'll give 5/5...<br/><br/>

Durga puja and bengali food goes hand by hand.We can’t think any festival without food.365 days of ab year we feed our appetite with chinese continental italian cuisine but yes in this 5days of durga puja we give special attention to Bengali cuisine.Bengali cuisine defines our culture the most. There are many outlets in Kolkata who can give our tastebud a rich taste of Bengali cuisine,Zaranj is one of them.Zaranj is one of my favourite.<br/>Today,again I keep my steps to Zaranj to start my puja hopping. They are all set with a beautiful cozy ambience, decorated with flowers and mild ambience. So without giving soo much introduction lets have a look to their special delicacies which are my favourite and yes a must try.<br/><br/>Aam pora shorbot:- Light green coloured nicely flavoured welcome drink which is perfect to start a grand lunch.<br/>Lebur shorbot:- Bengali’s gandhoraj lebu is all time favourite. And yes famous for starting any lunch.Fresh lime juice mixed with chilled water sweet and pudina.<br/>Bhetki polau:- One of the unique polao, chunky fish cubes with mild flavour of spices.<br/>Panner biriyani:-Perfect for any vegetarian person who loves biriyani.Large cubes of fried panner with perfect biriyani rice.<br/>Daab chingri and daab paneer:- Both the dishes are perfect to accompany a bengali pulao or steam rice.<br/>Chicken dakbunglow:-Spicy rich chichen gravy served with egg and topped with barista.<br/>Mutton kasa:- Authentic mutton kasa can go well with polau.and bengali luchi.<br/>Karaisutir kachuri, alo mushroom dum,Echor dalna,Cholar daal this all are also my favourite one in these puja days.<br/>Thanks to am2pmfood and Panchphoron for the invitation.<br/>#Am2PmFood #PanchPhoron #PanchPhoronForever #FoodBloggers #Bloggers #TeamPanchPhoron #Foodie #ProudToBePanchPhoron<br/><br/>

The place was lovely with a very hospitable staff. The premises was very hygienic and well maintained. The food served was piping hot and fresh. All the breads were crisp and well cooked especially the Laccha Paratha. All in all a must visit for North Indian lovers

Wonderful ambience. Dahi ke kabab are best in town. A must try. Shorba was disappointing as they put rice in tomato Dhania shoraba which does not taste well at all. Service is very good. Overall good experience.

Surprised as to how I had never visited this place before! Very courteous staff, beautiful ambience, delightful food and good company made this visit a memorable one for me. The dahi ke kebab was a sumptuous starter, veg au gratin was delicious but the best of all the delicacies was definitely Laccha Paratha. After ages, I finally had laccha paratha as to how it should be i.e, crisp, thick and heavy! Surely worth a visit again👍

Located near Indian Museum. The SOI and Zaranj located in the same place. This place was amazing. I have visited here few weeks ago. Ambience was extremely good, well decorated, staffs were very polite, always tell you there signature dishes and suggest you the best dishes on your demand. I think this place is little bit crowded on weekend. So I suggest better to go there on weekdays so that you can be able to see the decoration and feel the ambience.

One should definitely NOT visit this place. <br/>Extremely bad food quality...if you want hot food then this place should not be considered for sure.

We used Zomato gold membership and ordered dhai ke kabab it was excellent . Since we had no booking they did their best to accommodate us and gave us place to sit in their Chinese restaurant. Explained us the offer properly <br/>Overall experience super!!!

Went to this restaurant yesterday.... Had vouchers from nearbuy so we were treated as if beggars have come to dine in their restaurant... A voucher of 5course meal, they served us a five course thali... Food was awful still they kept on saying that I should be happy I am getting so much for the amount I have paid for the voucher... Owner is already behind bars... Manager will follow soon... So if u are planning to use a voucher in this restaurant, it's better u go to a langar instead.. at least they will serve u with respect and won't make u feel poor or anything

Definitely one of the legendary restaurants in Calcutta, I took my parents out to this one for a fine dine experience as I had heard a lot of praises about this place. Last year around the same time, I had gone to this place for office lunch and had an average time. But I thought maybe the dinner experience is worth a try. <br/>Zaranj for me was a slight disappointment. We had ordered Tandoori platter, Paneer makhani, Maa ki dal and laccha parantha. They didn’t have Paneer item in the platter so we had to cancel the order. Paneer makhani was also just average. Maa ki dal and laccha parantha were top notch. The service was extremely slow as when we asked them to bring a stuffed Kulcha for the second round of breads, they said it would take 15-20 mins (for a single bread!!!) and we should instead order tandoori roti if we want it within 10 mins (what a relief). So if you ask me about the overall experience, it’s too expensive for the service and food quality and Calcutta now has a lot of places serving better food and providing better service.

Went for my Birthday Celebration, it still has the rich old school charm, but needs better maintenance of the furniture.<br/>The starters were great as always, but the main course was disappointing. Had ordered Dal ( was ok), pindi chana ( was ok), paneer buttermasala was not as rich and creamy as it should be, even the quality of paneer was not upto the mark, the aloo was like it was made at home (we came to restaurant for a change - not to eat home cooked food). <br/>Most of the main course was on the sweeter side. <br/>Expect better from a restaurant of this stature and expenses.<br/>

The place is perfect for fine dining. Food and ambience was amazing. Must visit place with family. The hospitality was top notch, especially by Mr. Debasis Basu.

Well Zaranj was always on my favourite list of places for Indian cuisine... until my last visit. <br/>The service was just tooo slow, service slow is still accepted only if the food is good and tasty, but the food quality has also gone from good to bad, not at all for the price we pay. There are plenty of other places to choose from.

Great food and ambience. Love this place and prefer this Place for a weekend family dinner. <br/>Would recommend this place to everyone looking for good starters and North Indian food

Zahraj is an old reputed restaurant in Kolkata. Ambience is nice; there is a distinct classic vibes you will get once you enter the restaurant; however, now that there are so many other restaurants with cool décor, I think management might need to consider renovating the place a bit to stay in game.<br/><br/>I went there with my family for lunch and we ordered Bhetki Paturi, Chicken Kebab, Dal makhana, rice, Dhania chicken and Kadai Chicken. Bhetki and Dhania chicken was delicious but at the same time Kadai Chicken and Chicken Kebab was bad. The price is exorbitant! Yes I agree the food was mostly good but if I am paying 650+ for a dish then I definitely expect more than just ‘Good’.

The lacha paratha of this place is just ossum. Not to be missed when you are there. All the vegetarian food items, what we had, were very good and seating in some of the tables are cramp but the environment is great for a evening

Horrible

This place is near New Market.<br/>The ambience is good. The food is tasty.<br/>This place is very expensive so it’s advisable to buy a meal coupon. Overall, it’s a decent and well decorated place.

One of the oldest restaurant in kolkata . Highly disappointed with the service and staff behaviour in a recent visit on 17/06 . The staff were rude . Table provided was not in zaranj but soi where service was delayed and had to repeatedly ask for items . Staff dint know how to serve the food properly. The behaviour of the staff was shocking when asked for service

The food was fantastic..all of us loved it..<br/>But not a single good whiskey option..how can a restaurant like zaranj not have a single Single Malt Whiskey..or Grey Goose Vodka..or even Carlsbery..<br/><br/>Plz upgrade on the Alcohols..Much Required..

A reputed name among the old restaurants in Kolkata, Zaranj began serving in 1991 and holds a special place in Kolkata’s heart from then on. It is famous for its Chinese cuisine but serves yummy North Indian food as well. People look forward to its ambience. The well trained servers and other members are humble enough to make you feel important.

The ambience is quite impressive.. calm and nice place to enjoy a meal.. However, the food is average and very much overprised... You dont only pay for the ambience, the food should also be commensurate to high prices..
