One of the legendary old multicuisine and bar family restaurant in Kolkata. It is in Waterloo Street. Food Specially Indian and continental food is really good. The restaurant is costly. Fish liver gin, classic fish fry strongly recommended.

Good Vibes & Good Food! Must try Baked Fish here.
Souvik Jana
One of Kolkata's most renowned bar-cuisine establishments. The restaurant still has the essence of an old place. One of the best places for a nice family dinner. The ambience is very good and the quality of food is also very well maintained along the years. When you come here, you can eat whatever you want, but you must eat fish Orly. The vegetarian options are delicious as well. They provide quite standard service. You must have vivid memories of the entire evening.

Provides Quality, yummy good food, beautiful ambience, one of the oldest restaurant with good service and amazing food. The staffs are well behaved. Family restaurant and bar. I really liked it. U can park vehicle nearby as it is but crowded.

I recently dined at AMBER restaurant, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The ambience exuded a sense of history, and the traditional decor added to the charm. The menu offered a wide array of classic North Indian dishes, and the flavors were authentic and delicious. The service was warm and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of North Indian cuisine with a touch of nostalgia.

Very nice restaurant. We ate Tandoori chicken, Ambar special Biryani with chicken kasa, Butter naan with chicken varta and sweet lime with soda with great pleasure.

Aesthetically it was very nice. Food is very nice. Try chicken kabab with extra cheese. The workers sometimes forget, what they have served you so always remember what you have ordered (Else you have to pay an extra amount).

The restaurant's service is very good. People there are so friendly and nice. The only problem is the quantity. The quantity is really less. I mean it can be only for a single person. The Veg Au gratin was not that good. It was really bland. The paneer tikka masala tasted pretty average and also very less quantity. The chappatis were well cooked and the place has very beautiful lighting which will make you calm and composed. It is also a bar. So you can order any type of drink you want. You can take cake from outside and the people there will help you in every manner they can do to make your birthday special.

Update in 2023: It's been a downward journey for the restaurant since my last visit in 2019. Went back in July 2023, and the food served are not just tasteless, but stale and stinky too! They now serve the same curries for different dishes, example, we ordered for Mutton Roganjosh and Mutton Surk Kofta and curries of both the dishes were just the same. Very very bad food overall. Nowhere else would you get such overly spiced, half-cooked, and stale meat as you would get here. Worst food experiences ever in Calcutta would sum up my experience perfectly. Amazing food. Good hospitality and quick service.
Rathin Chakladar
Food is very good, especially the Fish Fry and the tartar sauce they serve. One of the finest in Calcutta. The Tutti Fruity at the end was icing on the top. Highly recommended.

One of Kolkatas first Mughalai cuisine restaurants, the foods still as good as yesteryear the ambience thought comfortable lacks the vibe it used to carry on its prime but that won't leave you with much to complain about because you'll be there primarily for the food and less for ambience!

One of the oldest restaurants of Esplanade area.Still kema naan , chicken bharta &mutton do piyaza taste is same & heavenly.

This place has been there for over 60 years now and it still maintains the old charm of the city of Kolkata. They have kept the old vibes alive. The food quality has been maintained over time. Good place for families.

A time travel restaurant with food not living upto its name. Thumbs up - A great restaurant with interiors which will take u back to 90s and honestly its really refreshing to see such a classic fine dining restaurant of the 80s & 90s or probably dates back even before. I really liked the the way the staff were dressed. Coming to the food we had ordered the Hara bhara seekh kebab and Tomato Soup for starters. Soup was ok but kebab was superb. It was full of flavors and the taste was very old school. It felt like the ingredients and recipe hasnt changed even a bit since its inception. For main we went for Kabuli Nan, Masala Kulcha and Butter Nan along with Dal makhani, Paneer tikka butter masala and Veg fried rice. Honestly the breads were so good that u can have it alone with pickle and onions, u dont need any other sides with it. It was fluffy and sweet and baked to perfection. Probably the most fluffiest Nans ive ever had. Dal, Dry Pindi chana and Paneer was ok not that great. Rice was really good and it was good to see vinegar onions served on the table. These days ull hardly find vinegar onions being served on the table. Thumbs Down - Both dal and sabzi were a let down honestly. Many new restaurants are serving better Dal and Paneer than this. This actually spoilt my mood as i had heard about this place to serve really good food. However i even felt that the non veg and other kebab items shouldve been great as hara bhara kebab was delicious. All in all it was a pleasant experience however i do need to visit again specially only for Non veg. Hoping that to be really good. Also i noticed one thing that people visit it with their clients so it seemed to be more of a business lunch / dinner place. Price for 2 - 1000 excluding drinks 4/5* P.S - Serves alcohol.

It’s my father’s favourite restaurant.so we went there to celebrate his birthday but the food quality they served this time was really disappointing. The taste was really bland.... if we compare portion to its price then it’s really not reasonable. Don’t know may be due to this pandemic situation all their main chefs r on leave.

Price is too high, quantity is very less, taste is poor. The most disgusting part is you have to give tip to go to toilet.

Food :- The food here is absolutely AMAZING! I would love to return here once again SIMPLY because of the food! Oh, what an amazing food experience it was! If you are a foodie then go to this place simply for the FOOD!<br/><br/>Ambiance :- The ambiance, however, is disappointingly not as good as the food. Very bad ambiance. <br/><br/>Service :- The service is amazing and staffs are incredibly polite.<br/><br/>Overall, a nice restaurant for having big meals and for filling your appetite.

Oh my my! What an experience. Somedays back I have visited Amber with my family for having a family lunch. This is a very reputed place located at Esplanade area serving food for years and years.<br/>Coming to the food, the quality, quantity and taste of the food they served were simply astonishing and scrumptious. The ambience of the restaurant is also very nice and ideal for family aur formal gatherings. Now, a cherry on the top is the friendly behaviour of the stuff had made this place better than many other place. One should definitely check out this place.

Amber, situated near esplanade. So coming to the ambience it was average but there was a feeling of peace and quietness. It was not that costly so a good place to enjoy with friends. Now the food.. I will say the food was delicious. Must try the naan and chicken varta. But the service was quite slow.<br/><br/>Over all this is a average restaurant

This place just glows with nostalgia in my heart as this was the place from where my father used to order food. Love the food. Love the atmosphere most. Very very courteous staff. Golden Fried Prawn is a must try. Chilly Fish is spicy and Chicken Bharta is a classic. Definitely try this place out. A little bit costly. But that's the price u pay for the whole package. Cheers!!

Our old glory became very disappointing..Went there yesterday to celebrate wife's b,day, ordered few starters..portions could've been better..Especially went to have their famous moti biriyani..I was surprised that around 8.30 pm the biriyani was over..come on..it's a metro city..not a village side restaurant..the person who was taking order advised me to call & book biriyani from the house when we visit next..Strange..isn't so?

I'm visiting this place since my childhood days as this is one of my father's favourite restaurant in Kolkata.<br/>The foods they serve are simply amazing and the taste remains the same. The Chicken Tandoori they serve, is the best in the town. Fish and Chips, Chicken Bharta are equally good too. There is only one complain, the authority must look after to increase the quantity of food they serve.<br/><br/>
Hunger Diaries
We have ordered chicken tandoori from here<br/>It was soo tasty and delicious and soo spicy<br/>The ambiance is so good and hygiene best place to visit with your family and friends for dinner and lunch

Ambience: Good<br/><br/>Staff: Takes too much time in every thing, from taking order, serving water, food and all.<br/><br/>In Frame:<br/><br/>▶️Chicken Gold Coin [240 INR]: 6 pieces of balls of minced chicken deeply fried served with potato chips and tasted good.<br/><br/>▶️Fish Sheek Kabab [390 INR]: It had 4 pieces of fish sheek Kabab and it tastes similar to that of sheek Kabab and bit dry and I don't like it much.<br/><br/>▶️Chicken Malai Kabab [325 INR]: It had 6 pieces of soft and juicy chicken pieces and not malai but Reshmi Kabab it was so don't get confused while ordering it as malai Kabab.<br/><br/>▶️Fish Masala Kabab [520 INR]: it has 2 large pieces of bhetki fish fried with masala and served it was good but had smell of fish.<br/><br/>▶️Brain Masala [230 INR]: Mutton brain was cooked with masala and peas and tastes good.<br/><br/>▶️Butter Naan [105 INR]: It was soft and tastes good.<br/><br/>▶️Chicken Fried Rice [275 INR]: it was pathetic and I had never had such fried rice in my entire life so please don't order<br/><br/>▶️Chilli Fish [380 INR]: 6 pieces of fish was served which was tossed with excessive sauce and tastes so bad I can't even explain.<br/><br/>Overall not at all satisfactory visit. Visited this place for dinner yesterday. This place is a must visit if you want authentic Indian food, cooked to perfection.<br/>For starters we ordered the cheese balls and chilli chicken. The cheese balls weren’t very good. They were pretty oily and I wouldn’t recommend it. The chilli chicken on the other hand was delicious. Moist bits of chicken in a spicy gravy. It wasn’t cooked in your usual Chinese style and it was a nice change.<br/>For main course we ordered butter naan, murg butter masala and Palak paneer. All three of these items are the best I’ve ever tasted! The Palak paneer was amazing. So delicious, I absolutely loved it. No oily. Just flavour.<br/>The murg butter masala was delicious too.<br/>The naans were perfect.<br/>I couldn’t stop licking my fingers!<br/>The staff are warm and friendly too.<br/>For dessert we ordered pista ice cream and chocolate nut sundae. The deserts were pretty good too.<br/>Overall, I love this place. The food is amazing. I would definitely recommend this place.
Ayush Agarwal
Not at all good...the portion size is too less comparing with the price they take. It seems half plate. They sell boiled rice with 3 to 4 peas as Peas Pulao costing around 220 rupees...overall bad place to eat.

This is a very old restaurant. It is just 5 min walking from Esplanade via bentick street.<br/>The food is of good quality. It is a bar cum restaurant with huge seating capacity. It is perfect for family dinners, meetings, conferences meet ups etc<br/>The service is excellent and the people working here are well behaved.<br/><br/>The must try dishes are<br/><br/>1.Fish Fry<br/>2.Mixed Fried Rice<br/>3.Chili Chicken<br/>4.Chicken Stroganoff<br/>5.Shahi Mutton<br/>6.Chicken Bharta
Anirban
Heard of this place a lot so decided to pay a visit. It was a Friday evening just before Eid so the place was buzzing with people. The decor was traditional, just like old times. The staff was quite friendly. There is no separate section for the bar. The lighting could have been improved a bit, it was a bit dark for me. We were 4 people nd we oredered 2 plates of Mutton moti biriyani, tandori roti ,chicken bharta and salad. The biriyani quantity was alarmingly less for ₹275. Basically 2 plates can only satisfy a single person. The taste was okayish. The tandori roti got so hard after sometime that it looked like papad. The bharta tasted kind of average. Very dissapointed with the quantity. The price eas really high for such less quantity. Probably not visiting again.

it has tge best panir butter masala in town and the naan is just soooo sooooooo good and the best is theirs fish liver gin it is the same since my childhood

Old Kolkata Charm and Food. Food Quality is truly Excellent. We had Chicken Soup , Malai Fish Kebab , Keema Nun , Chicken Bharta and Chicken Stroganoff. <br/>My Staffs are very Courteous and Polite.

like several eateries in kolkata, this one gave me an unexpected shock. maybe they don't have customers anymore. maybe they've got a horrible chef. needless to say, the food sucked. the mutton keema, reshmi masala were deplorable. the worst of the lot was the mutton sheek, though. the frozen ones may be better. i feel bad for amber.

Old is gold. Consistent food and amazing service. I have been visiting this restaurant since I was a kid but they have kept up to their standards from almost past 35 years. A must visit restaurant in central KOLKATA.

One of the reputed and oldest restaurant of  kolkata . I have been visiting this place since my childhood. the north indian food is great here. Biryani is a must try item here..<br/><br/>food - 4.5/5<br/>ambiance - 4/5<br/><br/>This place has decent pocket pinch

Great place and the best thing about this place is their paneer butter masala. It’s super delicious, plus the cream of tomato soup is also very tasty and yum, altogether I had a great experience here.
Zeeshan Fareed
Food is legendary! My family has been eating here since 1954, when it opened! We personally like the food at the esplanade outlet and not the park st. One. The decor is stuck in time, if youre in for that kind kf setting, its amazing. The service is really fast. The chicken chilli with bone is really unique, you must try it. They have a decent bar menu too ! <br/><br/>Tried<br/>Prawn Pakora<br/>Maghaz Masala<br/>Butter Naan<br/>Chicken Chilli with Bone<br/>Tandoori Chicken<br/><br/>Food: 5/5<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Ambience: 3/5<br/><br/><br/>

The most amazing Bheckty fry and grilled fish ! Any day my first choice ! Quick to serve too.. ordered fish on three consecutive days and found the quality and taste to be the same excellent every time!<br/>The North Indian cuisine is also impeccable here. Not many usual punjabi places will offer a dal makhani as sublime as here ...

📌Amber restaurant, one of the most reputed restaurants of Kolkata, truly reached a level of disappointment that it cannot possibly stoop any lower.<br/><br/>It was my ma's birthday yesterday, and as this restaurant is one of my Dadai's absolute favourites, we had to go here to celebrate!<br/><br/>We tried various fish and chicken kebabs, chilli prawn, and their famous baked fish.<br/><br/>For the main course, we ordered Chicken Stroganoff, jeera rice, butter naan, chicken bharta, chicken reshmi masala, and some preparation of chicken.<br/><br/>To say we were dissatisfied with the taste would be massive understatement. The preparations were overly tangy, and much absurdly, everything tasted exactly the same, no spice or sweet, other than the terrible tomato curry they kept serving with everything!<br/><br/>The only good part about the night was their famous Baked Fish. That's pretty all.<br/><br/>They might have been a huge restaurant back in the time, but they're doing a great disservice to their beloved repute.<br/><br/>WOULDN'T recommend it at all. Just don't visit this restaurant believing they're still what they were before. They're not even the shell of what they have been known for. Absolutely horrible. Totally ruined the birthday celebration.
Laxmi Devi Sharma
Have come to Amber a lot of times but today was very unsatisfying. The quality was very substandard and the food was served cold. Even the quantity of dishes was less.<br/>We ordered<br/>1. Malai kofta which was terrible.<br/>2.Dal makhni - cold and bland.<br/>3. Paneer butter masala - paneer was hard and the gravy wasn't good either<br/>4.Spicy Baby corn was fine but one plate could hardly serve two people<br/>I wouldn't recommend dining here as per my recent experience.
Anand Jaiswal
Amber.. The name says it all.. What say?<br/>No.. Not anymore..<br/>It has lost all its charm over the period of tym.<br/>The taste of the food here has drastically gone worse.<br/>They must give a serious thought for their food to regain their lost status.
Mahasweta08
Amber I visited twice time. I love the ambience and there food is amazing. Specially chicken murgh masalam, and chocolate mousse, kebabs ..shakes..

rdered Chicken  Butter Masala from them  tonight. <br/>Taste was very good and thr portion size was big. <br/>Chicken was soft and juicy also.<br/>It’s a very old restaurant in Kolkata,
Anshul Aggarwal
Over hyped and over rated restaurant for sure, not at all authentic, all gravies have same taste. No parking available nearby. Waiter was only insisting for more orders, it was like owners have given targets to every1 starting from guard outside who took 120 INR and said Sir itna to Dena hi padega.
Soura Shaa
Amber has been there like several other eateries of the office para of Kolkata serving the hungry officegoers or the late night tired corporates after a long day. My parents had gone for a Sunday dinner at this known name. And had bought me butter naan and Chicken Bharta on their return home. I'd specifically mentioned these two if they tried the biryani and found it to be not upto the mark. So did they as is evident. Ma complained the quality of the food wasn't like it was years before. They also tried kebabs other than Biryani.<br/>But I somehow found the Bharta okay, actually more than okay. Now, bharta is a tried and tested dish and there's not much where one could go wrong. And they didn't fortunately. I was lucky and wise to choose it after all. :D
Tanaya Mukherjee
Amber is one of the oldest and cherished restaurants near the esplanade. I had tasted tgeir biriyani and chicken dishes. Quantity was enough, the biriyani smelt good and the meat was well cooked. The chicken tikka masala was very rich, the gravy was thick and tangy.
The PacMan
Had ordered fish finger on Sunday evening at the ground floor ..<br/>It was pathetic and it was doubly fried and the whole thing was hard ..<br/>Chicken Malai kebab was good ..

i won't say it's a pocket friendly place for a middle class person but the food is worth every penny... they are really good at Indian dishes like chicken tikka masala and stuff... all other dishes are really good... but on some days their service gets really slow i don't know why but that isn't a big issue... do give it a visit...<br/>comment below your questions and suggestions it may help others<br/>follow me on Instagram for amazing photographs @gogol_the_spinner<br/>PEACE ☮️

Strictly not to be visited by vegetarians... right from soup to curry to rice and breads... Every thing was pathetic.. Kolkata has many better restaurants. Please make sure you visit anything else but not this one. Also, be brave if you even want to try anything in here.

Really a very bitter experience, took mutton biryani from the take away counter but the food was stale completely rotten. I have been coming here since childhood but will never come back. Completely shocked

This place is an institution in itself. One of the first few fine dining restaurants of kolkata.Visiting this place since my childhood. The specialize in indian and north indian quisine.Been here last week after a long gap due to a busy work life schedule.Had ordered mutton boti kabab, chikn malai kabab and Hariyali paneer for starter. All were awesome. For the main course we had mutton rogan josh ,chikn bharta and butter nan.The butter nan was one of the best naans i ever had.It was soft and melt in the mouth. The mutton was really great and was falling off the bone easily. For dessert we had blueberry cheesecake which was average. So overall it was good. The service was good.Thumbs up.

Very sorry to learn that Amber restaurant does not delivers to my residence address. Fail to understand the reason for the same. Can anyone explain
Shivane Singh
Service was pretty good and food was extraordinary the chicken was well cooked and nicely presented .I had ordered crispy chilly babycorn and chicken tandoori for starters, then for the main course I had ordered chicken bharta, dry chole and one butter naan. The naan was very soft. A very enjoyable experience thanks to good food and great company ☺
Poulomee Bhaduri
Unpalatable food.<br/><br/>We ordered dal makhni, mixed veg, reshmi kebab, tandoori chicken and "CHILLY CHICKEN "<br/><br/>the chilly chicken was tossed in some unpalatable sauce with intolerable amount of chillies and NORTH INDIAN SPICES. Yes, you read it right... They put aamchoor and jeera powder in chilly chicken. On complaining they said " it's a north Indian restaurant, everything here is north Indian " THEN WHY ON EARTH KEEP CHILLY CHICKEN ON MENU?! It is not a north Indian dish!<br/><br/>However it could at leaset taste edible right? But it wasn't. I am not complaining because they messed up the original recipe but because they served something which tasted disgusting.<br/><br/>The dal makhni and mixed veg lacked flavour but were edible , more like a road-side stall kinda preparation.<br/><br/>Tandoori and kebab were okayish.<br/><br/>P. S. They make screwdriver with minute made pulpy orange, I liked the taste but you might mind the pulp in your cocktail.<br/><br/>Don't waste your money. Eat food elsewhere, this place serves trash.

It’s a very old restaurant in Kolkata which still continues there quality. Very famous name. People like to go there so many times. For me it’s a double celebration place. There food is really good and authentic and tasty. Enjoyable. Recommended for everyone.

A childhood favourite, have loved Amber for the last 30 years. Absolutely lovely ambience and delectable food especially the golden fried prawn, the chicken bharta, the bhetki fry. The only aspect I disliked are some of the relics of the past like the guy in the bathroom handing tissues and asking for tips

the food was not good

II Amber II<br/><br/>Around the bend of Waterloo Street, I often meet a delicious past. A past I owe as much to an abiding pack of neighbouring eateries as to my parents who left no stone unturned weaning me on the proudest edibles of Kolkata. And, Amber led the pack from the front. Having gibed pointless etiquette as wasted and worn stains on sleeve with poise all my life, I only found agreement in Amber’s apathy for anything that glittered but lacked taste. No wonder it flourished in a time when ‘Succulence’ as word featured more in SpellBees than in food-columns. And, gatekeepers had shiny imperials.#uncookedwords<br/><br/>Fast forward to the day I picked Amber to rediscover flavours I’d once left in a fit of greed! A long gap, running into years, made the thud of despair louder and possibly reach far and wide. Mahi tandoori set a mood of restraint with Bhetki grilled and on the turn, carrying a balanced bouquet of flavours – not encouraging to pull the string that holds memories. Chicken Seekh was stiff and dry – resembling more a forbidding albino than a well-nigh aphrodisiac. With meatless ribs jutting out in dissent, a knobbly Burra Kebab looked appealing but failed to offer delight of any kind. Malai Chicken, an order more of impulse than wisdom, for an instant had me believe that I’d popped a chewy clump of vinegar in haste. <br/><br/>Moving back and forth is how I choose to reflect! Of all its dishes, none had brought Amber glory like fabled Chicken Tandoori - with brown, brightly charred, fiery skin, marinated in proven spices of yore. I as fondly recall almost snorting the heady mix of charcoal and tandoori spices on the air, as digging hungrily into its hallmark juiciness - with eyes shut in ecstasy. What they served that day as Tandoori bore all that I’d ever despised in grills – be it the irreparable dryness or lack of flavours that once had made us buddies for life. I was sad to find even my loyalty, with that of many others, fail in making it taste any better. Memory of Chicken Tandoori at Amber would live on as a relish [or, relic] to be recounted with true regret. Taste thrives on either consistence or delicious aberrations, and so does love! I saw my courage dip as I dawdled along the menu and settle with a spoonful of Tutti-frutti that an acquaintance had agreed to share. So, the time is here when the ‘Frutti’ can safely be spelt as ‘Farty’ for its unseemly airy predominance.<br/><br/>Describing distaste is not my forte. So, I rest my pen here, hoping to forget the meal as briskly as I write about it. And, I’m glad that I don’t get paid for writing, nay, lying about food. That would have made me swear my best love to boiled Barley, or promise a failing Amber a hearty revisit.<br/><br/>I repeat, the state is grim if an eatery fails to hold even a flickering candle to its own past!

Went this restaurant for two times..<br/>It's one of the favourite restaurant of my cousin..<br/>We ordered biryani, butter nan, paneer butter masala, chicken bharta...<br/>Taste is good but it can be better as per their rates...<br/>Ambience is best...<br/>Service is poor.

Excellent customer service and food. Fish worly, paneer tandoori and tandoori chicken were great. We ordered vat69 and service was great. Good food and great whiskey. A must go.

Though the famous Shammi kebab is their greatest contribution to the culinary world this legendary restaurant of Kolkata can claim its fame for its mutton bara kebab (Gosht Peshawari Bada - as they call it) as well. Never had any mutton kebab so soft and succulent. Don’t know whether it was the marination or some other special technique but definitely it is the smoothest mutton kebab we ever had. Only negative side is one portion is too small...even not sufficient for someone with a large appetite and thereby a bit pricy if compared to the amount(₹320 for 4 pieces ). But still I would say that it ‘s must try.<br/>The next was their famous Moti biriyani. The motis (tiny balls made of minced mutton mixed with some smashed lentils and are scattered generously in the rice) were spicy and complementing the subtle flavour of the rice. It was the authentic Kolkata biriyani type served in another Biriyani legend of Kolkata“ Royal”. The balanced flavour of ghee and cardamom makes it different from its fast food counterpart served in any biriyani junction. The moistness, the subtle balance of spices and the light texture make this class apart from the artificially flavoured and coloured varieties now available anywhere in the city.

A spacious restaurant located in a not so spacious area. What i mean is...getting a parking is tricky, once you are inside the restaurant though, the ambience is pleasant. Given the sprawling floor plan, you dont feel couped in with other folks. Staff is courteous and extremely well behaved. Tried Moti Biriyani, Rogan Josh, Gosht Do Pyaza, Chichen Bharta, Peas Pulao to name a few (yes...i did have company 😁). Frankly the food was....soberly average, with the exception of the exceptional Chicken Bharta !! Will i go back someday🤔..... no comments yet !!

I used to eat at this place at every occasion .But now it has lost its charm. They need to improve their service as well as taste. If u eat at this place make sure u try the fish livergin. It is the only thing that has the same old taste.

Went to this place after 10 long years. Saw the swag of the place same guys opening the door, calling elevator, giving salutes. Was vacant got seated immediately. Ordered fries, sweet corn soup. Sweet corn soup was horrible, super thick and awful. Same were fries. Ordered their Usual masala kulcha, paneer butter masala and dal Makhani. Paneer butter masala had lost it old charm, Dal Makhani was very average but kulchas were good and stuffy. Overall either this place has gone down in its quality of food or other places have gone up considerably. They should come up to the mark if they want to stay and compete.

An old place of Kolkata with old flavours. The best part of the restaurant is their staffs, courteous and well behaved. Food quality is pretty good and the taste too. However, they have increased their prices quite a bit in recent days. The staffs at take away counter are equally good. However, I feel the take away counter needs to be improved. It should add more space or it should relocate somewhere inside the restaurant.

Awesome food. May be one of the best in town. Yummiest may be. If any one have really good food with there family this is the place. That too with effective price. And a really attentive service. But one star less because there's a lot of scope to improve especially in ambience as compare to upcoming restaurants around the town.

The food quality and the taste is incredible. The ambience and the behaviour of the staff was also very good. Very much satisfied coming here and i recommend everyone to visit this restaurant once.

Well.. when hot & humid are two best words to describe Kolkata streets, in a weekday lunch hours we went inside this restaurant to find comfort of mind, soul, body and ofcourse palate. It did surprise me the way the old style lift went up and then the door opened and welcomed us into a world that honestly I wasn't expecting. At the wee hours of lunch the place was quite empty but there were plenty of staffs inside. I must admit that the indian traditional decor inside is really well maintained, the place is quite spacious. The whole ambience will certainly give you a fell of bygone eras. They guided us to a table and made us comfortable. The menu was mostly north indian cuisine heavy and moderately rated compared to the space and decor they are maintaining. We ordered one murg tikka kebab and one mutton moti biriyani at first. The kebabs were succulent and moist inside but I didn't like their taste. It was probably charred first and then batter fried. They also tossed it with some sauce which made the whole taste of it very sour. I was expecting authentic charcoal grilled tikka flavour but it left a sour taste in my mouth. The biriyani was probably the most highly expected item of that afternoon. I was really excited to get a taste of it. But to our utter disappointment the biriyani was not even close to what we fondly call classic Kolkata biriyani. It came with few pieces of mutton meat balls, one horrible piece of mutton, one potato and some rice. Quantity was average.<br/>Let me explain the whole thing one by one.<br/>1. The meatballs were too tiny and slightly burnt from outside.<br/>2. Rice was missing authentic biriyani flavour. Tasted like ghee rice or pulao.<br/>3. Potato was under boiled and raw inside.<br/>4. The only mutton piece came with a big chunk of fat and bone. The rest was too hard to chew and tasted like rubber.<br/>Completely disappointed with their servings so far we decided to end our miserable lunch there and rather preferred to have something outside on the streets. I had a big expectation from them coz this place is quite old in this Waterloo st. area and honestly I have heard their name quite a few times before. It made my entire day sour to the extent that we even didn't bother to click any pic of our dishes. Hope they improve their food quality drastically as it is clearly not doing justice to the interior and the brand name.

I have ordered there tikka and mutton biriyani for lunch. Biriyani was not that much tasteful. Interior was nice and Staffs were well behaved. The piece of mutton was also very much tasteless. Items were also costly.

The quality of the food is deteriorated. I've visited this place before, then it was one of the best. The service quality is still no-doubt the same but the food is not worth it.

Good for casual drinks . Rates are not too much high for drinks. Food was tasteless , a road side stall serve better food than this restro.<br/><br/>2 Stars only for ambience and cheap drink.

When you think about some Kolkata 'Classic' Restaurants... Amber is the place to be. Since it's naissance it has maintained its charm and stuck to it's authenticity. On a Sunday rainy afternoon we chose to step in, I started with my fav Cheese 🍒 🍍... Gradually 🎏 Finger which was a Bekti Delight and it melted inside the mouth without much time, Chicken Masala Kabab which was nice... Peas Pulao & Mutton Shahi Korma was good. We opted for Conti and ordered Chicken Onion Steak which was fab in taste with a heavenly stuffing, Chicken Stroganoff with rice was just perfect with the sauce. Chicken Ala Amber was a hit with its unique brown sauce rice and 🐔 combo. The mango mousse was a nice dessert to end with. But... one thing I disliked is the solicitation for TIPS. Starting from the door man, lift man and most ridiculous 2 aged men inside the small Gents washroom they were just a bit irritating... It's a must place to visit except the washroom ;-)
Suprovat Kundu
One of the oldest restaurant in Kolkata. Their food and service was great. But on my recent visit I didn't like their food quality too much. This needs a update to match with the recent trend and demand that the people of Kolkata wants. The staffs are well behaved as usual. It was my dad's favorite restaurant so came to this place many times in my childhood.

Amber the restaurant I've been visiting since my childhood days.My Grandpa's all time favorite which turned into ours too.<br/>The food is excellent and tastes same over the years. The Pindi Chana is perfect in taste and nothing comes close to it.The ambience is good and the staff are cordial.<br/>A Perfect Place to dine with family.

I have never left a negative review in my life and I do realize that this is not a Michelin starred restaurant, but dear me, I also think that you can expect some sort of standard when you go out to eat. Unfortunately, the standard at this restaurant was very poor. <br/>Where do i start ?<br/><br/>1. The over enthusiastic service personell's intention was very clear from the inception - he was all the more interested in taking our order for the main course while we were not even sure about our drinks and appetizers. We were literally forced to place the order right away.<br/><br/>2. The service staff concerned was in an extreme hurry...he was so fast that half the food was on the table. <br/><br/>3. Coming to their culinary skills - <br/> A. Golden fried prawn had a stinking smell of bad oil.<br/> B. Fish liver gin was way too oily and was completely inedible.<br/> C. Now lemme talk about the biggest disaster...<br/> <br/>" WE HAD ORDERED BAKED FISH AND WAS SERVED SOMETHING SIMILAR TO PAN GRILLED FISH.<br/>I SRAIGHT AWAY CALLED THE CAPTAIN AND INFORMED HIM ABOUT THE MISTAKE...INSPITE OF KNOWING THE FACT THAT WHAT IS SERVED WAS NOT BAKED FISH...HE DECIDED TO ARGUE AND ESTABLISH THE FACT THAT THE DISH THAT WAS SERVED WAS BAKED FISH AND IT COMES WITH TOMATO SAUCE....I MEAN THATS BIZZARE..<br/>WHICH PLACE ON EARTH SERVES THAT.<br/><br/>P.S - I am neither a blogger nor a critic, but having good taste in food and restaurent...i would suggest you to think twice before opting such restaurents which misuses their brand name and peoples faith on them to fool on customers.<br/><br/><br/>

One of the oldest food joints in the area. The fish liver gin is a must try with tartar sauce. Best in the city. Overall food is pretty good but quite pricey.

Amber peaked in the mid-80s, one would swear by their Tandoori Chicken and Even now, after so many years, this restaurant is still frequented by both family & office-goers.<br/>Although the highlight of the menu could be the Chicken Kebab, Brain Curry, the Tutti Frutti, food here is essentially tasty & the service is also okay. Chana Masala, kebabs, naan, dal and other preparations fit in the menu card. They don't accept reservations so getting in early is recommended.<br/>Veg lovers do try their Butter Paneer & Butter naan.
Nirjhar Pal
Its n old restora. The serving time is very high. You need to sit for 40 mins before food arrives. Food is not that tastey. Price wise it is ok. Car parking is an issue. May times parking wont be available.

A very nice family restaurant amidst the busy lanes of Esplanade! <br/>Good food, great ambience, courteous staff.. What more can someone ask for?<br/>Yes, they also serve alcohol with complementary chakhnas 😉<br/>Pocket pinch slightly on the higher side but is worth it..

Its a family tradition!!!!Not that much but starting from my grandpa to my father to me and the rest is geography 😜 ...... Now it's located in a busy lane in Esplanade. Then comes the party of being friendly because that starts as soon as you step into the place the staff greet you very warmly but becareful not to get yourself roasted🍗 The liftman is absolutely friendly and he'll surely burst the laughter out of you. Ambiance is pretty prestigious like other quality resturants have but hehe now the big...bigger.... biggest part.. the food . Basically all the items do not have unique touch but there are good which are to makeup the uniqueness-YES I'm talking about the sizzler, chicken/veg Outgratin , and Fishliverzin(a unique fish dish baked in touch but and served hot with healthy butter fried veggies),Moti Biriyani and ofcourse a glass of refreshing pineapple blossom. It's a great place to chill with your family as I always do!!!!!....thank you😉<br/><br/>Our PICKS :-<br/><br/>#Chicken Ougrantin<br/>#Fish liverzin<br/>#Moti biryani<br/>#Pinnaple Blosson<br/>#Tandoori Chicken

This place is truly superior as far as restaurant culture is concerned around Kolkata. one of the oldest places, foods are good, ambience reminds you of nineties. We received a great service as well. Thumbs up! 👌

Good food but pathetic Delivery service<br/>I received my order 90 mins after ordering whereas it said less than 60 mins

A fine dining eatery with prices hitting the roof. Food OK not so outrageous. What I actually liked the most is their selection of ice -cream. Service average with huge emphasis on tipping. (***/5)

Consistently Average. Some people consider that to be worth something. I just call it unambitious.<br/>This restaurant belongs in the history of Kolkata and there are people that cling to it.<br/>The staff work like it's a Govt job. As long as people keep coming it works for them. But the food scene in Kolkata is changing and their regular patrons are going to die some day. I hope they realise it and decide to try harder.<br/><br/>Food quality is ok, but they're a bit pricey and the ambience is so old school, it looks retro themed. I don't find them relevant anymore.

This place was my childhood favourite and I used to visit all the time. Although I visit it less now but recently I had a great time there. The food was promptly served and delicious ! The Mutton was succulent and the Biriyani was divine. This place is a must try !

Overpriced food... poor quantity n above all terrible taste.. worst than road side food. Based on the old reputation n past experience of several years back.. yesterday we visited Amber for Sunday lunch. But was dissapointed to the core. On entry u will get a strong pungent smell likely to be that of phyneol which made sitting inside the ac painful.<br/>We ordered ...<br/>****chicken biryani whose portion was amusing n price was much higher than arsalan biryani !!<br/><br/>**** The chicken fried rice had huge chunks of carrot.. burnt sheredded chicken n lots of peas n flat taste. home made fried rice are much much better i bet.<br/><br/>**** The chilly chicken was full of some red sauce tasting like road stall chilly chicken.. no where tasted a bit like chinese. And was confused whether the chicken pieces were really chicken or cheese balls.. since the size was micro mini n was barely visible through the gravy.<br/><br/>**** The reshmi butter masala had too much sour marination making it sour chicken. pieces were too small n the gravy tasted no where close to authentic reshmi butter masala.<br/><br/>We had worst sunday lunch ever !!!!<br/>Not a single dish was anywhere near satisfaction..<br/><br/>Maintenance was poor.. u can see cockroaches moving around the wall happily !!!!

Order was Garlic Nan, Kulcha, Dal Makhani and Chana Masala. The breads were great as always, but Dal Makhani lacked the taste and not as per Amber standards. The complimentary vinegar onion was an added bonus. Overall it was good.

It was in my wish list since my school days. Today finally got the chance to step in here. Ambience wise great. We ordered chilly chicken as starter and for main course chicken biryani and murgh tikka masala. Until I tasted the tikka masala my experience was average. The chicken gravy preparation amazed me. The biryani contained two pieces of potatoes and two medium pieces of chicken.
