No better place to have a better North Indian cuisine than Amber in Calcutta . We ordered dinner and it definitely was sumptuous. The paneer butter masala and chana masala are must must try. I absolutely love their veg au gratin, it certainly is a grandma recipe
Ordered Kabuli Naan, Paneer Butter Masala and All Dum. None of the dishes disappointed. Great in taste and portion size. The Kabuli Naan in fact was enough for 2 hungry people. Great quantity. Staff was responsive and cordial. Great experience overall.
Ignoring all the reviews, we decided to visit this place and give it a try. It was empty, so the staff was very accommodating towards our needs. We had naan and some mushroom dish (forgot the name). Was pleasantly surprised with the taste. They didn't even take too much time to bring the dishes.
Only thing, however, was that first we opted for the platter. And we were told that none of the platters were available. But you could take them from a la carte, which was absurd. I mean, you can provide the same items from the a la carte menu but not in the form of a platter. Why keep it on the menu then?
But overall, ignore the poor reviews and do pay them a visit. We didn't regret at all. Thank you.
So we called food home from Amber , as always chicken bharta, naked fish with cheese and tomato , mutton rogan josh and panned butter masala..

Unlike other reviews, i would like to give this place a thumbs-up. Fortunately for me or unfortunately for the restaurant, i visited at a peak time but the restaurant was completely empty. Being the only customer, i enjoyed their focussed service. The food was tasty with decent portion size too.
Paneer Buttet Masala was best i had in town yet...chicken bharta was yumm too. One of t under rated restuarant in Park St. Instead of standing in ques for hours at other big names try this out.
We took only continental dishes. Chicken Stroganoff, Chicken roast, Chicken Tetrazzini and Chicken Ala Kiev. We were scared seeing the rating in Zomato. Bt surprisingly, the experience was not bad. All d foods tasted well. The staff behaviour can improve though. They don't attend d customer much. Otherwise nice place to visit.

A classic culinary destination in the city. The simple yet cosy decor welcomes you along with unparalleled hospitality. The Chicken Ala Amber was so tummy filling. Chicken pieces, boiled eggs, cheese soaked in perfectly on a bed of rice.

The Indian cuisine that we had from here was quite good. The kebabs were tasty and delicious, served soft and with the dips.Thw black dal too was delicious and flavoursome. The breads, naans and lachha paratha were good, well made.The grouse was with the soups, they didn't taste good, seemed stale. The garlic bread served with it was good.But the service wasn't up to the mark, it was inordinately long. Though he staff were polite and helpful also courteous. But they took so long to bring our food. We were a group and in that I was the only veg. They brought my food so late that after having my soup I simply waited while my non vegetarian​ friends finished their meal. After they finished the server brought my veg platter and now my non veggie friends had to wait!!!( What an awkward situation)
Evergreen restaurant .. the taste has not changed since 10-15 years .. classic restaurant with signature dishes like chicken bharta and fish finger .. mouth watering the reshmi kabab and butter masala always great.. gonna love this place forever but the quantity is a little less 😷 overall great food :)

Located near Loretto College and situated in the same row of Peter Cat, this is a nice, cosy eatery perfect for families.... Compared to the main joint in Waterloo Street, this place is little known and thus less visited. Unlike the main joint, this place doesn't serve alcohol. Though it is called Amber Cafe, it serves lunch and dinner . We get mixed reviews on this restaurant but for me visiting this place has always been a good experience.
1. Ambience - Nice and cosy though not too spacious. The authority must do something in this respect.
2. Service- Service has always been prompt the number of times I have visited. Smiling, patient waitors and managers very cooperative and always at service.
3. Location- Situated in the heart of the city it is not very difficult to find it. Parking facility also available.
4. Food- The main part. They serve various mocktails....among which I had taken the refreshing pineapple blossom. I tried their Fish Finger, served with Tartar Sauce which is a signature dish of Amber and this branch did not disappoint me either. Fresh betki well marinated and fried, crunchy crispy from outside and soft inside is a worth try. I tried their Badami Murg Tikka and Murg Malai Kabab and found the latter to be tastier. For the main course I have always taken Fish butter masala ...two large betki cubes cooked in a rich buttery tomato gravy..a big thumps up.l! for this preparation. Next, keema matar and chicken bharta the other two notable dishes from Amber kitchen. Keema matar was good in taste as usual. Chicken bharta has always been a delight for me previously here. But however last time during the pujas it did not live up to my expectations. Chicken strips were hard to chew and the gravy tasted bland. Hope to find a better preparation next time. Peas pulao, masala kulcha were tasty and enjoyable.
Coming to the dessert section, This place serves ice creams, koolfi falooda, sundaes etc. I tasted koolfi falooda which was ok. But a dessert worth trying is Chocolate Monte Carlo - hot brownie in hot chocolate sauce dipped in two big scoops of ice cream. A delight for ice cream and brownie lovers.
Overall Amber Cafe can be a food lover's destination perfect to visit with friends and family....a place to enjoy food in a quiet peaceful ambience.However couldn't rate them more because of the shortage of space.
Coulnot wait to write this. Just coming back having our new year dinner from amber cafe. At first we opted for mocambo and peter cat but both were soo crowded that we gave up. Though it is a cafe..no coffee was available today. We ordered for creme of chicken soup. The soup was nothing but just a chicken broth served for patients. Very thin consistency. One should try this soup at mocambo or peter cat. Then we ordered for chicken tetrazzini. The dish had excessive butter which made the dish salty. The tetrazzini was missing some core ingredients like cream and cheese was less in amount. So we didnt dare to order any food further
A good idea to stop from a long tiring day for a while and chat over some yummilicious cold deserts . Less spacious AND Cool ambience.Staffs should be more prompt at service.Overall a good cafe for Middleton hoppers....
It was my 1st visit to this place.. n my experience was fabulous! My mom n I were greeted very well.. The food is good.. the ambience of the place is very calm n serene! I would love to visit this place again..
I cant understand y this restaurant has such a bad review. Because what i had is way above and beyond the current rating.
I have been going here since i was a little kid and i dont remember much since then except for 1 dish that i absolutely loved. The baked fish here is really brilliant. Thats the only thing i remember since i was a kid.
Also tried the lemon garlic fish which was also spectacular but it was also dwarfed compared to the baked (tomato) fish.
Its one of the many dishes which make my mouth water just by thinking about it.
I also remember that the mahi mahi fish masala and naan were also superb (which i had a couple of months back when i was looking for the tomato fish which is baked fish in the menu, but didnt know that since i had not been there in several years. )
So, i dont know about any other dishes, but the lemon garlic fish was really good, but the baked fish with the tangy tomato sauce is a must try.
Apparently they are REALLY good with seafood.. XD
I took the risk of getting inside a poorly rated restaurant. The only positive being the franchise of a legendary outlet in Kolkata.
My expectation was low, but surprisingly it turned out to be quite a pleasant lunch. The fish fingers were tasty. The kebab was succulent. The chicken roast was an absolute delight. It then occurred to me that probably this place has started to revive itself. I hope henceforth they remain consistently good. After an array of restaurant closures in Kolkata I don't want any more additions to the list.

We went to Amber 2 times for Lunch. It has nice, cozy place with decent ambiance. The place was found to be clean on both occasions we visited. We were short on time & wanted to get in & out within 30 mins. The place was successfully able to meet the goal at the same time providing a decent tasty meal at a good price point. The beverages could be improved but considering the space, they are managing it quite well. If you are in the surroundings, you can surely have a quick meal here.
A small place located at Middleton street near Park Street with a brand but food no where close to Park Street standard. Naan is to hard and even the dal is very bland with no taste. Service is ok but could have done much better with the location.

Amber has always been a childhood favourite. We ordered takeaway from Amber and none of the dishes disappointed me.
Paneer Butter Masala:4/5
Always a favourite, the paneer was very soft, gravy was thick and creamy. Though the dish was less spicy for me but for people who prefer food with light seasoning this dish is a must try.
Chicken Bharta: 3/5
Though this dish was amazing. It was spicy, chicken was soft, well cooked and the masala was spicy. But it loses marks because there was inch thick layer of oil on the masala. Amber has to work in this because though the dish was very good, still the amount of oil put into it disgusted me and prevented me to even take a second serving as it looked very unhealthy.
Dal Makhani: 3.5/5
Another dish which was less on spice for me. Though the dal looked as if it was cooked slowly with lots of cream. But lack of seasoning made it an above average dish.
But I did talk to the regulars and they suggested that going there and opting for their kebabs is a vergy good idea as Amber serves amazing seekh kebabs and prawn cocktail.
Overall Amber's food was good but each dish can be improved with help of more spices and chillies.I suggest paneer butter masala and chicken bharta (if they work on the oil problem).
Went 2 dis place for the second time last month or so.located few steps away from Peter cat towards the park Street church.
Food quality and quantity of this place is good..not very bad nor very low.however prices are a bit on the higher side as per the quality..but thumbs up to the service and behaviour of the staffs..can be visited for a change..
To begin with Amber cafe is a Differnt concept than the usual Amber. Nicely done interiors, we ordered for some continental dishes, knowing Amber for the superb Indian they serve we decided to do a mix. Conti food was very fresh and nicely done. Would recommend the place for a comfortable meal
Tried out this place twice recently and I was pleasantly surprised. We went in for continental both times and the food quality met our expectations. Service was a little slow given the fact that we were the only group at the restaurant both times. But I guess the food made up for that. Hoping to visit sometime soon.

I have always been a fan of Amber and yet I wasn't aware of Amber Cafe till i read about it in a newspaper article. And on trying out the food I was super happy because they have maintained the same standard. On entering the place I was surprised because it looked like a tiny place but of course the quality of food but impressive. They seemed to have kept alive some forgotten recipes old Kolkata of the Brit era. The Chicken Princess was one of such cheesy delight, beautifully browned on the top. We also tried their steaks, nice and succulent. The chocolatey desserts in the end were simple and delicious if not extraordinary. Must visit to try out the rest of their menu.
Its a simple place in the crowd of park street, decor is decent and nice. we had chicken risotto and white cheesy chicken pasta. taste was wonderful and mouth watering. As far as quality is concerned, it serves top notch and modern cuisine which entertains the eyes and taste buds rather than simply fills the belly. service was decent and prompt. Quantity is bit less which i think, quantity could have been bit more. Last but not the least i expected mouth freshener when I had ended up my food. they failed to offer me that one. It is bit disheartening for foodies like me. this food joint could have been got easily 4 out of 5 without this mouth freshener wala event.

My memories of Amber are the Paneer Pulao, the Fish Liver Gin with the lip smacking tartare sauce and Kadai Chicken.
So, I decided to try out Amber Cafe after seeing good response from Zomato.
The ambience is pretty and nice. The decor is simple and has a cosy feel to it.
Kept the Amber standard pretty much like the restaurant. Clean and good.
Coming to the food, the menu is vast and has a lot of options to choose from so we ordered : :
1. Chicken Princess.
2. Chocolate Monte Carlo.
The chicken princess was mammamia! It was yummy and delicious. Goat cheese was used to prepare the dish. It all creamy and cheesy and among those cream, you will find two tender fillets of chicken inside.
An entire dish can be shared by two, the quantity is so huge. Its served with potatoes, carrots and beans.
Its a melt-in-the-mouth and tastes wonderful. A full on ecstatic experience.
And the dessert was Chocolate Monte Carlo. It was delicious. A brownie topped with a dollop of ice-cream which has oodles of chocolate syrup sprinkled was just what was needed to satisfy an over-filled tummy.
It was a great end to an even greater meal! :D

Okay I feel a little ashamed to admit this, but the fact is even though I grew up in Kolkata, I haven't eaten at Amber before this. So my experience of this place is just a review and not a comparison. I went there with my family yesterday and we were a bunch of 6 people. I don't know whether I should thank their nouveau outlet on Park Street or their not-so-proper marketing, but we were the only customers in this restaurant-cum-cafe whereas all the other restaurants nearby had a long queue outside!.
We just ordered some mocktails (Fresh Lime Soda, Virgin Mojito and a 'Reverse Swing') for starters and went on to explore the main course. We ordered predominantly Indian and just one Continental dish which included Naan, some Chicken and Fish items, a Kebab Platter for two (with Indian bread of your choice) and a Chicken Stroganoff. All the dishes were cooked to perfection. The quantity was also quite perfect except for the Kebab platter which was supposedly for two people. We were quite full and only two of us decided to share one dessert. We had ordered an Apple Delight which was an apple pie served with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. It tasted quite authentic except that the outer crust of the apple pie could have been a little harder and crispier.
Overall it is a nice place for a family, couple or a group of friends. The ambience is good and the restaurant overlooks a garden on one side and there is a cafe counter on another side. Prices are decent and our bill came to Rs.3000 for six of us.
P.S. - If you are unable to find place in any of the other more known restaurants nearby, you might consider dropping in here since it is much less crowded and offers good food at comparable prices.
I was quite impressed with this place! Very homely atmosphere. Never knew that it could pack a nice punch of amazing food right to your stomach! I've always been a fan of the Amber and since this was an outlet, i gave it a try.
The chicken onion steak was good! Succulent. very nice to taste! Left a very nice taste in my mouth.
The chicken princess was a creamy burst. It had a little too much cheese for a person to digest at one go! It was very tasty without a doubt! You'd feel like licking out the last strand of cheese on your plate.
The brownie romance was superb! I really loved the glass it came in. As we kept digging, it kept getting better! It was all amazing! Loved the experience of this place after a long day.

MEMORIES ARE MADE AT AMBER CAFÉ TOO!
For those who have grown up on the food of Amber; Amber Cafe, then, should be your next food stop at Park Street. The management of Amber wanted to give a cafe experience to the people of Kolkata while retaining the many original food items that made it well known. They have definitely succeeded in what they had set out to do.
The decor is simple and minimalist. The prices of food items are not exorbitant. The service is impeccable. The menu of Amber Cafe has on offer many new dishes as well as old Amber favorites. Even though you might be tempted to order the good old stuff; avoid doing so because there are many new things on offer here.
Under the soup section, you will find the good old and delicious Asparagus Soup on offer at the cafe. The salads on offer here are varied as well as what you can find being served at the various restaurants in Park Street like the standard Caesar Salad and Russian Salad. While at the Cafe do sample their Chicken Shaslik and Vegetable Stroganoff from the Continental section. Again among the many new Continental delicacies they have retained their Chicken Princess and Chicken Gratin. Even here, there is no denying the fact that their Chicken Reshmi Butter Masala is one of the best in Kolkata. This dish contains the right amount of butter and mix of spices. Even their Mutton Surkh Korma and the Rogan josh have that same Amber taste.
An interesting and delicious addition to the Amber staple is the Mongolian Wok and the Indian combo meal. They are a complete food package .They have also introduced for the discerning customers some pasta items, wraps, sandwiches and various kind of beverages. They also have on offer many sinful desserts.
Eating veg gratin and veg stroganoff here. It's really out of the world. Amazing taste, cool ambience .... Definitely a place to be
This is on of the heritage restaurants which is surviving quite well with todays competition. It still has that authentic food taste of specially mutton items, jst love it.
Since my office is close to the old Amber it is a usual haunt for lunch. But Amber Cafe has a very refreshing menu. Excellent combo meals and good variety is on offer. I had the Wok rice. It was really nice. A good place to treat friends. Quite pocket friendly. It definitely deserves one visit.
The original 'Amber' has been around for years and is the stuff of legend in the city. 'Amber Cafe' is a the cafe-sized version of the main restaurant with fast foods, wraps and some of the original Amber favourites. The ambience is minimal, simplistic but nice. However, the food is very good. The Mongolian items on the menu are worth trying out!
I tried Amber Cafe the other day and I loved the food. Amber Cafe has more than lived up to the name of the Amber Resturant , it not only gives us our favorite food but also a new variety of cuisines which leaves a tantalizing taste on ur taste buds.
They have achieved perfection in not just the delicious taste of the food but the beautiful presentation of it. One must try the Kabab wraps , Indian and Mongolian platter.
The ambiance of this cafe is too good they serve brownies with ice cream is way too good 😊

Ok type food but you may try them in night time somehow the good food happens in night time. You can try the kebabs and rolls but in any case I’ll go for the rolls rather the kebab. Didn’t like that. You may try the salted things as well. Ohh did I forget the sweets? You can try their sweets as well.
Good place for north Indian food lovers. No bar here, however, must try their tandoor dishes. Simply fabulous 😊
