Review Allen's Kitchen Restaurant - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Situated at the heart of North Kolkata, This is one of the most legendary eateries of the city. They serve some Excellent dishes. Prawn Cutlet is the most recommended one. It's great place for having evening snacks. However the seating capacity is limited, so you might have to wait during a busy evening. Takeaway is also available. Food quality is excellent. Hygiene is maintained considering It's a small outlet.

In frame Fish batter fry. Mutton steak đŸĨŠ Special prawn 🍤 cutlet. The hidden gem at north Kolkata. Food quality and taste was so good and delicious .. Specifically the prawn cutlet which was fried in pure ghee.. Highly recommend ❤ī¸

This place barely needs any introduction. And this ghee fried prawn cutlet is definitely the top pick of this place. All time favourite.

Allen Kicthen is apart of Calcutta Heritage. The quality of the fastfood delicacies have enhanced with time, made of pure ghee. Prawn Cutlet, Fish kabiraji are a must. Located in North Kolkata, this culinary destination is now a legendary one. People come back here dipped in nostalgia.

This is a historical and heritage based food place where you get different types of fries items on fish, chicken etc. Quality is little degrade than earlier. Food taste was good. Fish fry is not available most of the times and also the fish kabiraji.

The hidden gem at North Kolkata...situated in middle of shovabazar metro and Girish park metro ...the famous prawn cutlet is just awesome in taste...its mouth watering...fish fry is also good..but fish roll was not upto the mark...sitting place is small...

Exquisite food items which are relatively uncommon these days at restaurants - Prawn and fish batter fry etc.Quality of food is quite good and one gets that "more than a century old" feeling which is invaluable.

It's a really great place to eat some cutlets. The taste is really different & really good. 👍đŸģ

I had fish fry and mutton cutlet, for me fish fry was the showstopper.i loved it. Mutton cutlet was also good but I expected more mutton keema.overall good experience.

Still maintaining the old charm.. You can have the food outside or can wait till you get a seat inside.. usually a busy place and waiting time is there. Whatever you try, opt for pure ghee option as you will feel the flavour and aroma of ghee and it enhances the taste. Most popular and recommended item is Prawn cutlet with pure ghee.. You can in fact watch when your food is getting prepared.. My rating:- 8.5/10

Allen's Kitchen doesn't need another introduction. As a famous restaurant it is low in area but served food was great đŸ’¯ . I recommend ghee fried prown cutlet is best. It is located 2-3 min walking distance from sovabazar metro station, towards girish park.

Sometimes words cannot describe your feelingsâ€Ļ.. this particular particular place is a heritage place in Kolkata in terms of their food qualityâ€Ļ.. especially known for their prawn cutletâ€Ļâ€Ļ there is some other signature items alsoâ€Ļ. But do visit the place for this one and only prawn cutlet if not the othersâ€Ļ.. this place I think over hundred years oldâ€Ļ.. and indeed, in taste and quality, they have upheld their reputationâ€Ļ.. the quality of the food the hygiene is absolutely fineâ€Ļ.. the quality of service is good, atmosphere does not apply in this scenario(cannot be described as you have to experience it to understand the beauty of this place)â€Ļ..

Nestled within the quaint ambiance of Allen Kitchen, one encounters an atmosphere that could be described as average. While it may not be the most captivating of settings, this unassuming cabin manages to make its mark through the delightful culinary offerings it presents. What truly distinguishes Allen Kitchen are its delectable snack options. Among these, the prawn cutlet and the fish kabiraji, both tantalizingly prepared with the rich and aromatic essence of ghee, emerge as standout items on the menu. These dishes exude a medley of flavors that titillate the taste buds, leaving a lasting impression. One cannot overlook the egg devil with mutton, which stands out as a must-try creation. This dish is a testament to the inventive culinary artistry of the establishment. The fusion of flavors, combining the succulent essence of mutton with the allure of a perfectly cooked egg devil, is a true delight for those who savor unique and imaginative snack options. In sum, Allen Kitchen may not boast the most extravagant setting, but it certainly compensates with its flavorful and creative snack menu. For those seeking an array of distinctive and satisfying flavors, this cozy cabin is worth a visit. Unfortunately, UPI payment is not accepted; only cash is a valid form of payment.

This is a heavenly place for fried food lovers! Every item they serve is soo good, price is reasonable, the seating area is small but very neat and clean. It's 5mins walking distance from Sovabajar metro station. We had ordered Chicken steak, prawn batter fry and fish fry everything was tasty, savory and well-proportioned, But chicken Steak was best among all so unique and flavourful. Highly recommended, would love to visit again

Visiting this place was on my wish for a long time and finally visited here few days back. This place started their journey more than 130 years ago and still this the one and only place if you want to try the Traditional Cutlets in Kolkata. They serve between 4PM to 9PM so you have reach there in this time only. Allen's kitchen is located Near Sovabazar Metro and A this place is a must visit. Few days back I visited this place but the sad part is looking at the current health situation they are not providing indoor seating, you can eat outside or takeaway is the only option. Though Prawn Cutlet is their signature item but we tried the Special Fish Cutlet Big (Pure Ghee) and Fish Chop. The Fish Chop was Average but The Special Fish Cutlet was totally Lip Smacking, it was huge and the Fish was very fresh. If you ever visit this place don't forget to try this one. After trying two Amazing items at this place now I'm looking forward to my next visit.

This place has been on my Dad's lips everytime he speaks about his hay days. He refers to the prawn cutlets everytime we try to order in. So finally we decided to check it out ourselves and oblige dad as well. And I must say it didn't disappoint at all. In fact we loved the egg devil and fish pakoda as well. The restaurant is not on any delivery app. But that didn't stop the owner from sending us our request through his own team. Would have been great if the chingri cutlet were crispy. Good old world.
This place is more than a century old, and serves some of the best traditional Bengali snacks. Price has always been pocket friendly here, as they are known for their tasty food without the frills of a classy restaurant.
Two people can easily stuff themselves with Rs. 500 or so. Our favourites are the Steaks, Fish fry and Egg Devil.

- with Debadyuti SK

Prawn cutlet = Allen's Kitchen. It is how I have the brain mapping aka taste mapping.
Prawn cutlet made with Lakshi ghee (pure desi Ghee) gave awesome aroma with heavenly taste. It takes a bit time to serve the food after you place the order so keep patience. They don't serve premade food so enjoy your time in your own way while the prepare the food.
Mutton steak was hot and light in taste where you can taste individual ingredients taste in your taste buds with melting mutton. It was good.
But for me Allen's kitchen = prawn cutlet.

Loved the food but in my opinion it's not worth the hype.
Priced a bit stiffer too.
But yeah, food quality is good. They use ghee for all the items.

Went here last year and ordered their special prawn cutlet and egg devil with mutton.. the prawn cutlet was outstanding..it literally melted in my mouth.. the egg devil was decent.. would love to have the cutlet again..

Quite easy to find. We ordered one prawn cutlet and Mutton Steak and the food was served to us within 10 mins. The sauce on the mutton steak had a sweet flavor and soya sauce was offputting, the ghee did not fit with those flavors. The prawn cutlet on the other hand was well cooked, the batter nice and perfect.
Debanjan Dasgupta
Tried the prawn cutlet in a recent food fair, and it was awesome with excellent smell of ghee , flavouring a nice prawn cutlet. Didn't had such an excellent prawn cutlet before, with a nice prawn stufing and a wonderful aroma of ghee.

Lip smacking snacks of Calcutta can be found in a corner of a blind lane, at the end of a shanty or even, in this case a heritage eatery like Allen Kitchen. The place has its humble setup and very easily accessible location near Shobha Bazar Metro station that points toward Girish Park. Coming to the food, we had come with a homework of sorts courtesy Zomato. The waiter was summoned and order was blurted out. Mutton Steak, Prawn Cutlet, Large Fish Cutlet, Chicken batter fry. We had five hungry mouths to feed, so needed a bit of help from the waiter for the fifth item. It was apparently a chicken roll of sorts that came wrapped in breadcrumbs. I personally had great expectations from the mutton steak, but it turned out to be a bit too tangy to my taste. The taste of the steak was over powered by sourness of the dish. The large fish cutlet was also somewhat of a disappointment since Apanjan has set standards so high. Now the remaining three dishes somewhat outdid our expectations. They were fabulous. Coming to the star of the show, the well renowned prawn cutlet was fabulous. It had shrimp that would literally melt as you would take your first bite. The taste was properly balanced with a reasonable thin batter to go along with it. The chicken batter fry was perfect in all senses. It tasted fantastic and looked great. The dark horse of the order list, our waiter suggested Chicken Roll was a gem of a roll, that we thankfully chose to order. Resembled more like Campari's fish roll, this chicken roll with keema chicken inside tasted best of the lot. All in all except for mutton steak you can feast your eyes on the remaining dishes we ordered. Remember to order the Chicken Roll next time you pay a visit to this historical place. Best time to visit - 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm. 16 people can sit at most at a single point of time.

I have visited with my friend & placed order fish cutlet & prawn cutlet. both are so delicious. After that i have ordered 2 egg devil with fish .It's too good . & behavior of the staff is amazing , also they are guiding to choose best food.

'Allen Kitchen' is one of the oldest restaurants in Calcutta and it's regarded as one of the legendary ones. However, I will not call it legendary though. It's good but not great. The ambience is minimalistic with 4 tables inside. There is a paucity of space as well.

I ordered :-

🔴Mutton Steak(5/5)- This one was decadent.
🔴Fish kobiraji (4/5)- This one was good.
🔴Chicken batter cutlet (3/5)- Ordinary cutlet in batter. It did not taste phenomenal and had very little chicken in it.

The staff was courteous though. I will probably visit again.

A beautifully fried cutlet with a light and crisp batter. The beautiful smell of ghee accompanies the soft prawn goodness. All in all a beautiful evening snack.
Ritwika Chaudhuri
The aroma and taste of the pure ghee fried food ,here, is so mesmerizing, that I have planned to never eat kabiraji from anywhere else. Last day I tried the special fish cutlet. It's a different from what we generally know as cutlet...but it's beautiful too. Definitely Allen's the best to go when you just want to have some nice North Calcuttan snacks.

We went to this extremely old and historic eatery with a lot of expectations. We kind of felt as this place is famous, it will deliver any item with a bang. I was wrong.

My partner suggested the most famous dish-the prawn cutlet. Our good waiter advised us not to go for the prawn kabiraji as it will be oily and heavy. Also the kabiraji was 170/-. We ordered the prawn cutlet at Rs 150/-. My half had about 4-5 pieces of prawns inside. They called it cutlet, however it was not coated with bread crumbs as we are used to calling a cutlet. Instead they used a flour egg mixture(the type our mothers cook at home ,which we call gola ruti). It was fried in ghee and you can tell that. It was superbly and royally tasty.5/5.

Since,it was so good I presumed the other items would be good too. So I went full blast with ordering a mutton devilled egg(RS50/-) and 2 fish chops(Rs 40/- each). My partner had advised me against it.

The wrong thing is that they said it will mutton stuffed devilled egg. We could not find any mutton. Not recommended.

Then the fish chop had a nice coating and a filling of aloo. It was tasty, but again it had no fish. Nada. None at all. A pure waste of money.

I suggest you read the reviews and the recommended food items before ordering.

We all love Kabirajis and Cutlets but they are limited to fish, chicken and mutton. Allen Kitchen however brings a refreshing flavour through prawn kabirajis and cutlets. First time I discovered this place from the post of RJ Mirchi Deep .The add-on you get here is the pure desi ghee, in which they fries the items. The higher price charged for a single plate is because of the quality of ingrediants used in the food and we are ready to bear it simply as the taste are amazing.

However, a little disappointment with their devil's egg, since there was no mutton filling inside as mentioned in its menu card. Another interesting fact is that, the salads served here has boiled potatoes apart from the regular onions and cucumbers. This kind of compliments the snacks they offer.

â€ĸPrawn Cutlet INR 150/-
Ratings: 5/5

â€ĸDevils Egg INR 50/-
Ratings: 2/5

So thumbs up for kabirajis and cutlets. Souripal thanks for the treat.

It comes under a Hidden gem but not at all to my liking. Ordered the famous prawn cutlet with high expectations and it turned out to be a disaster. This cutlet was made with very few small prawns hardly 2-3 wrapped with a flour batter. I am very disappointed with the ratings it recieved and a gem of this kind.
Sohini Basu
I visited the place on Durga Puja Nabami. The mutton steak was an absolute delight. However, the prawn cutlet was overpriced considering its proportion and stuffing of prawn inside. The place is small but hygienic. Staff are courteous.
AVISEK DUTTA
Old place with limited seating capacity (around 20), however one of the greatest street food experience I had.
They have a lengthy menu however on a regular day many of the items may not be available except the best selling ones.
One should atleast try the prawn cutlet once in their lifetime- best selling item.

Homely atmosphere. We ordered mutton stuffed egg devil. Wooo!!! The taste ws 5/5 it has mutton stuff and fish stuff both were fabulous. Its a mostly recommend restaurant.
Swarnali Saha
I personally felt that it is just another hyped restaurant. I visited it the day before yesterday ordered chicken steak made up with minced chicken which is not at all authentic and it is kind of sweet in taste, and also ordered chicken batter cutlet is very thin and small. Over all the food is quite expensive according to the quantity and quality.
Souvik Dawn
It's a place where definitely you will get the best prawn cutlet in the city. As well with different varieties of meat cravings like mutton chop.. cutlets... Prawn kabiraji etc and they fry many of these items in pure ghee which takes these items into a different level all together. Supreme class! Do try.

This place is located at 2 mins walking distance from sovabajar metro station gate 2. Its a small place with a seating capacity of around 16. Wanted to visit this place as it is a very old place (over 100yrs old as I have heard) and was pleased to see that unlike most others they actually serve delicious stuff.
The prawn cutlet made of pure ghee is indeed lip-smacking.
I was initially skeptical about the chicken steak but to my delight it was really unique with the ghee and tasted great!
The fish fry(made of bhetki as they said) was good but nothing extraordinary.
Too bad I could not taste the chicken breast cutlet as it was already over! Surely a great place to gorge on for evening snacks!!

Allen Kitchen,an another old cabin of North Kolkata..serving their specially cooked fries and winning our hearts since last 130 years(approx)..Small outlet with a rich history..no hi-fi decor, not much spacious but will definitely win your attention by its own charm.
Went there on a fine evening and started our foodie session with their top selling item Prawn cutlet, tasted heavenly, coating was appropriate, and that soft prawn stuffing was delicious. After that we had fish kabiraji, chicken kabiraji and egg devil with mutton stuffing. They use pure ghee instead of oil and probably this is the reason their food become so delicious.
This place located near Sobhabazar metro and is a must try for you..if you love to explore North kolkata and want to go through our century old cabin culture.Pocket pinch absolutely reasonable.
It is regarded as one of the hidden gems of North Kolkata and so went there to have some great food after office. At first we ordered prawn cutlet which was fried in pure ghee.. The cutlet tasted awesome... The soft and juicy prawn getting melted with each bite.. Then went on to order egg devil with fish and another with mutton filling.. This was disappointing for me as the filling tasted sweet and it was not what I was expecting.. To revive my taste buds I ordered fish fry.. It was worth a bite and it did helped me to end the day with satisfaction...
We were so hungry we could only took the pic of prawn cutlet.. Others as soon as they arrived we gobbled them up to let them clam our stomach

It is a hidden treasure in the city of joy. â™Ĩī¸
Their SPECIAL FISH CUTLET and PRAWN CUTLET is truly lipsmacking! 😋 I've visited so many times there. My all time favourite!🌷

Allen Kitchen is surely one of the hidden gem of Kolkata and a perfect example of North Kolkata snacks tradition. They are famous for their Prawn cutlet and kabiraji, so never miss that out whenever you are visiting. Apart from that, another favorite dish of mine is their Special Chicken Batter fry. It is so good, the seasoning of the chicken is always perfect and the batter is light and fluffy.
One plus point about their dishes is that most of the food items are deep fried but still not at all heavy to eat.
To get some hint of flavors in pure North Kolkata Bengali style at a reasonable rate this is one of my favorite place.
Ok, so Allen Kitchen is a restaurant being featured in Zomato Hidden Gems Collection and tbh after visiting the restaurant, I truly don't understand what's the hype about this place. And no I'm not complaining about the ambience or the behaviour of the staff, which was quite courteous provided the establishment. I'm talking about the food which wasn't really bad but it wasn't something exceptional either.
I decided to order the prawn cutlet and the mutton steak. The cutlet was good and that's stretching it quite a bit. As for the steak it truly wasn't to my liking. The steak consisted of more onions than mutton.
All in all this is quite a good establishment but nothing exceptional from the very next restaurant.

I've been here once and tried out their chicken steak. It tasted decent, but nothing extraordinary. But with not many eateries in this region, this place serves a wide variety of dishes at really affordable prices, which makes it suitable for a one time visit at least. The seats are ordinary and so is the interior. However, the service is quick.

Allen Kitchen is not a known place for a South kolkatan people . It provides variety of fried snacks . It's on the opposite side of the famous Mitra cafe . Towards girish park metro station . I found the fried items much better than the mitra cafe . But staffs are not that cooperative . I found them a bit rigid. But a must visit place for a foodie.

Prawn cutlet was too delicious , the best ever in kolkata as far as I have tried. Must try! Chicken and fish cutlets both were satisfying. The only dissapointment was Chicken steak. It doesn't taste good . Otherwise deserves 5 star

I didn’t have a clue about this place to be really honest. It was my friend who made a plan to dine at this heritage food place. The menu strictly concentrates on various kinds of deep fried food items such as Kabirajis and cutlets! Mine was chicken kabiraji fried in ghee. It isn’t something that many of us would like. I found it more on the heavy side, not as per my liking. The oily taste sticks around! I have my favourite places for Kabirajis and cutlets so I don’t think I’ll revisit anytime soon.
DIPANKAR BASU
I have dined here many a time. There is no so called 'ambience' in this place. And that is the main reason for its '19th Century Vintage' flavour with the Italian Marble tables. Probably Calcutta's best Prawn cutlet and some other fried dishes are there which never brings any bad feeling or 'āĻ…āĻŽā§āĻŦāĻ˛' !!

Located on the Central Avenue, near Sovabazar Metro Station, Allen Kitchen is an old warhorse pioneer in serving evening snacks. No option to put below 5 for the house. Visited many many times, mostly I preferred take away option as because of it's close to my place. Tried almost all the items over here and not a single pin I got regarding the quality or quantity. My personal recommendation for the new visitors to try chicken cutlet, fish fry and prawn cutlet. But must say all the items are too good. The best one among the other similar food centres around.

Fish Fry & Mutton Steak !
The most unique steak in kolkata and an almost batter-free fish fry fried in Ghee..
A small but very old restaurant for snacks. They serve the authentic Bengali street food. It was started 125 years back & it is serving the taste buds of people equally.

A legendary outlet with serves some of the best Kabiraji and cutlets. The chicken Kabiraji and the Prawn cutlet are some of my favourite things here.
The prawn cutlet is especially delicious and made is desi ghee. The fillet is so tender and juicy inside. Prices are extremely decent.
The place has a small seating capacity and only accepts cash. It is easily accessible by foot and is situated a few metres away from the Sovabazar metro station.

A gem in the list of Kolkata's food heritage. Located in Shovabazar this age old joint is still serving with lip smacking food at reasonable price. Seating capacity is kinda tight with accommodation for only 12-14 people but who cares as long as the food is good.
Ordered Chicken steak, Egg devil and fish kabiraji. Stuffing of mutton keema in egg devil is just awesome and so is the rest of two items. You can smell the ghee in these items.

A century old restaurant, Allen Kitchen has been serving the gastronomes of Kolkata with the best fries and cutlets possible. This legendary outfit is located near the Sovabazar Metro Station, opposite to the Mitra CafÊ. We ordered two absolutely amazing dishes- Fish Fry and the Chicken Kabiraji.

A legendary outlet of Kolkata! And so a visit was must! We ordered:

Egg Devil with Mutton: This is much larger than your regular devil. And there was a huge stuffing of mutton Keema. The only thing that wasn't to my liking was the stuffing which was more on the sweeter side.

Special Prawn Cutlet: Now this one I really loved. The coating was soft and the filling of prawn was really tasty. I guess it's a different snack and must be tried by prawn lovers.

Overall a good experience. A small joint for freshly made tasty snacking.

I don't know, people ingeneraly give feedback about 125 years old Allen Kitchen positively. But I am really dissapointed.I went their and had their sp. Fish cutlet big. There lack of ghee and not so spicy and tasty.I had these types of fry items in a several joint for various times but those are used to made by oil. Here,I thought something different, but I didn't find any other speciality of taste or ghee-fry.Taste is different but not good than other joints. My opinion, taste is better of those joint who used to fry items by oil.Lot of good experience I had in other joints, but this time I don't know what happened in this restro.I saw every where about this old legacy joint, lots of good feedback.I don't know why I have not been satisfied.

Coming down the busy street of Ultadanga to Sobhabazar, will give you enough reasons to take a moment for yourself before getting vanished in the crowd. A five minutes’ walk from the bustling metro station took me to the very old and famous fast food joint, Allen’s Kitchen.

Prawn Cutlet – 4.5/5

Without any second thought I ordered the famous prawn Cutlet, served with freshly cut salad and Kashundi. The ghee fried prawns melted in my mouth leaving behind a foodgasmic experience. What delighted me was that it was juicy.

Chicken steak - 4/5

The next dish that arrived to the table was chicken steak, minced chicken fried and cooked on a light, sweet gravy with onions. Unlike the regular chicken steak it was a bit different but it too left the foodie with satisfaction and a wish to come back soon.

It's a hidden Gem, I got to know about this place from a book that my friend has been reading "The Epic City: The World on the streets of Calcutta" by Kushanava Choudhury, we kept to the menu as suggested by the author and it was the best Prawn Cutlet, the most mouthwatering dish I've ever had among other Cutlets. As suggested by the book it ritualistically makes 65 Prawn Cutlets everyday and yes it does run out in no time, so be there or be square. Most of the dishes are made with Pure Ghee and despite being heavy Oily dishes they manage to cook it miraculously in a very light manner which some of the cafes and restaurants in that area fail to do so. The Fish Cutlet was equally good along with the Chicken Steak, so simple yet so tasty, all cooked in pure ghee. I am definitely going back for more to try out everything else in the menu but in installments and so should one.

Was on my bucket list was a very long time since my last memory was when I was 7 or 8. Had fish kabiraji, prawn cutlet (all pure ghee) and egg devil. Was mightily impressed with the devil and kabiraji that was consistently cooked but the prawn cutlet seemed overpowered by the smell of ghee. One of the oldest institutions that probably need a marketing overhaul and a little bit of adjusting to the modern palates of Bengalis. Overall, food was good.

Purely a vintage touch!
Be prepared to diet for the week after you have from here..
We a group of eight people visited the place during panchami night and ordered almost every dish available except chop and rolls!
The best is the prawn cutlet and the kabiraji..

One of the best old school eateries of Kolkata where pure ghee is used to fry a large amount of prawns and made into a cutlet. Must try in my honest opinion. Chicken cutlet is good too! The place is very hygienic and fresh food is served.
Sambit Adhikari
Decent place with good food. Its far better than coffee house. If you are looking for a friends hangout then thus is the space you must come to fit in.
Kaushik Saha
A small but very old restaurant for snacks. It was Started by Jiban Krishna Saha 130 years back. From then, it is serving the taste buds of people equally. It is located near Shovabazar metro station. It has its speciality in prawn cutlet fried in ghee. Every visitor should try it. They have many more items of prawn, egg and chicken items to to taste.
Atish Jaiswal
It is one of the oldest restaurants in North Kolkata.
It is located very near to shovabazar metro station.
The items are very fast exhausted as the demand is very much so please try to be there at the restaurant before 5:30-6:00pm
Must try
I have attached the updated menu.
Madhurya
Situated in shobha bazar , this small eatery is known for it's cutlets ,chops and fries. I had ordered prawn cutlet , fish fry and mutton chop. The mutton chop was the best of all three.

Allen is nostalgia for people like us who have been born and brought up in the Sovabazar area. They serve the best prawn cutlets in town. It's a must try dish for even the fitness freaks. Take a cheat day but DON'T miss this one. The chicken steak is pretty decent too if you eat it without having a pre notion of the perfect continental dish that most of us are used to. The gravy is sweet and tangy and the patty is made of minced chicken and onion. The price is a bit on the higher side if you judge by the ambience but then again, quality matters. So, give Allen a try if you're near Sovabazar. Also, on a side note, I'll add that today is ashtami and it's a heavy load for them but still the quality remains uncompromised unlike most other eateries..
Partha Mondal
Very old resturent.
Prown items are their speciality.
Prown cutlet is awesome but lots of oil and lack of fish in it.
2-3 seeting area outside in the footpath.
Stuffs are well friendly.

One of the hidden gems of one wants to try the typical anglo snacks. It's located just 5min from sovabajar metro Station. The place may be small but it's neat and tidy.. Away from the hustle and bustle. I ordered deir famous prawn cutlet, mutton chop and chicken steak. The mutton chop was nothing different as I am accustomed to the taste. However Wat blew my mind was the prawn cutlet and the chicken steak. The taste was heavenly. Everyone is familiar with Mitra cafe. But this place deserves a visit.
Ananya Roy
One of Calcutta's legendary eateries. Loved their prawn cutlet - stuffed with fresh catch, with very little added spices (so you can taste the fish properly) and a delicious, crunchy, right-amount-of-thick batter. Can keep coming back for more forever!
AYAN BASU
The restaurant is located near Shovabazar Metro station and is highly accessible. Would request you to reach before 6 .30 pm to avail all the options .

The best is the Spl Prawn Cutlet ( Big ) and Spl Chicken Butter Cutlet , all are cooked in Ghee . This is the only place where you will get these items prepared in Ghee .
The ambience is good ( non AC though ) and the behaviour of the staff is superb .
I will recommend the Prawn ones because it's their specialty.

Allen Kitchen, a small eatery place located just opposite to Mitra Cafe, Shovabazar and 5 mins.walking from Shovabazar metro gate 1 is running successfully for more than 125 years. Excelling in the field of fried items., this place is a must try if you are a fan of fried items. The best selling itemis ofcourse their Special Prawn Cutlet and cutlet.
But people who love prawn, this should be your go to place.Offering sitting arrangement of 15 people, this place is always crowded and people who don't get to sit they prefer to stand and eat.
The Prawn Cutlet is an amazing item, the prawn inside it is soft, tender and cooked well.It just stays with you.
The Chicken Breast cutlet is also nice and the chicken was cooked amazingly well.
Go ahead and experience this amazing eatery outlet. You will not be disappointed.

Situated just opposite Mitra Cafe, a 5min walk from Shovabazar Metro Station, this place serves delicious fried items, the north kolkata specialties! Must try is the ghee fried prawn cutlet! It's too good!!!
Taraa (www.mychefstables.com)
Small, basic, clean with very quick service and some very interesting menu items!

We had two of their specialties - Chicken Steak and Prawn Cutlets. The steak has minced chicken covered with a delicious, slightly sweetish, peppery brown sauce. The cutlet actually has prawns, quite a rarity in a small eatery. I love their declaration of 'pure ghee' items. Only in Calcutta can you find food this quality in a little hole in the wall!

A hidden gem in Kolkata. This century-old place is a must visit place. Located very near to the Sovabazar Metro station.
Prawn cutlet fried in pure ghee.
Chicken cutlet fried in pure ghee.
Fish cutlet fried in pure ghee.
These are must try things here.
At first the cost would seem a bit on the higher side, but once you have a bite you'll understand why it is costly. The quality is commendable. And you'll simply want to revisit again. Period.

#musttry

A hidden gem located on the streets of North kolkata, a walking distance from the shobhabazaar metro station.
Amazing quality food. Hygienic place. And quick service.Ordered the fish kabiraji and prawn cutlet. Both were awesome. But the prawn cutlet being the superhit did justice to it being called the famous dish there. It was just too Good. Will be visiting again soon.

Allen has a reputation. But they need to tie up with Swiggy or Zomato for home delivery, otherwise how will they grow their business..they must keep pace with the times..

Location-5 mins walk towards Girish Park from Sovabazar Metro.
Allen Kitchen,is one of the hidden gems of Kolkata.Serving for over 125 years, this place is a living proof that if you are serving quality food then the price does not matter. This place is famous for its PRAWN CUTLET & also the FISH FRY is good too.(Sadly didn't take a pic of the fish fry)
I remember first going to this place with my father & elder brother, it used to be a small shack & people would crowd around it for their evening snacks.Yesterday again I visited this place after a few years & now they have renovated the place a bit but the taste & quality still remains the same.

A legendary food stop at sovabazar. We went there today evening with a lot of hope, but nothing special about the heritage eatery. We ordered a big prawn cutlet and a small fish cutlet. There was a very little prawn in the cutlet, most of the thing was batter only.Fish cutlet was also very ordinary type.

Finally visited the famous "Allen's kitchen" Such a historic place located just beside shobhabazar metro station with not so fancy ambience or decor. But if you are there for food you won't be disappointed! If you want to taste real delicious snacks of Kolkata you will have to visit this place! We almost had everything from each category from their menu. We ordered
1. Egg devil
2. Prawn Cutlet
3. Fish chop
4. Chicken butter cutlet
5. Mutton steak
Every items of their menu is prepared with refined oil or pure ghee. But I would not end this review without mentioning their special "prawn cutlet" Probably the best prawn cutlet in Kolkata and if you can rely on my taste it is a must try if you visit this place.

Located near sobhabazar metro station towards Girish park... small and legendary place... We tried few fries from here...

1. Dimer Devil- Dimer devil is a very popular snack for Bengalis. They coated/stuffed the hard boiled egg with boiled potato, mutton keema, onion and other spices and dipped it in batter and fried it.

2. Prawn Cutlet- This Prawn cutlet is delicious and is served with mustard sauce and onion slices .

3. Chicken Kabiraji- Chicken kabiraji is a famous non-vegetarian snack in Kolkata and they made it brilliantly.

Prices are reasonable and they serve the dishes quickly...

When it comes to fries and cutlets we the people of Calcutta can boast of our city. And Allen Kitchen is one of the reasons what makes the case so strong.
Allen Kitchen is serving cutlets, fries over a span of 130 years,so the legacy it bears is beyond questions, but it is really very challenging to maintain the goodwill. And there lies the speciality of this century old restaurant.
They make the arguably best Prawn cutlets in the city and that too in Ghee, having not deviated from the tradition.
Prices are absolutely alright, and service is satisfactory. There is o no sense in looking for dazzling dÊcor or expecting a great ambience.
