Review Regent Restaurant - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Debalina Sengupta
It is near Kolkata Corporation at Esplanade. It is a non A. C Resturant with medium price. It has the old cabin also, where 4 people can take their meal separately. There is no extra cost for cabin facility.

Located in New market area.<br/>Well ,if you want to eat at a very pocket friendly price after shopping ,then this place is ideal for you .<br/>I tried Biryani here more than twice .<br/>I just love it .<br/>But service is bad ,seems they have unusefull stafs.<br/>But food is good.<br/>Overall rating -3.5/5

While the food is reasonable, service is abysmal. Looks like they have excess staff who have nothing to do other than irritating guests. Recently we had mutton cutlet and coffee. What was strange is an old staffer almost forced us to leave showing us the "rights of admission reserved" sign immediately after we finished! the restaurant was 80 percent empty at that time at around 12.30 noon. Becareful before visiting!

If u want to try some good food in some pocketfriedly amount after shopping.. then this resturant is well enough. Here i had chicken resmi butter masala and butter nun. It just made my day. The taste of the chicken gravy is just amazing. It's still on my mouth.

If it was possible to give negative rating, I'd have probably give it -5. The worst restaurant I have ever been to. We were hungry so we thought to give this place a try. The ambience is similar like any old restaurant. We ordered for a chicken biryani (160 Rs). Seeing the price at such a below the average restaurant, we thought quality or quantity would be good. Sadly, they served us a small plate of biryani. The biryani was a disaster. It had no taste, the chicken was salty and potato lacked seasoning. The quantity was not sufficient for one person also. The road side stalls provide better quality foods than this place. I went their with a friend and when he was done, the waiter came with the bill without waiting for me to finish mine. And after paying the bill, the waiters keep standing beside table for tips. The waiters treat customers as if they give foods to customers free of cost. They don't have basic manner. A big thumbs down from my side. I'll never come back to this place and will never recommend this place to anyone.

I guess this old restaurant is something which catches attention of every public who gaze through the streets of new market..to be specific ' the busiest ' streets in the city..The inside is like typical vintage city restaurants.. Was craving for moghlai so ordered special chicken moghlai which fetched 100 bucks.. It was crunchy and wasn't dissapointing.. If you love old kolkata and if you feel nostalgic about it... grab a cabin and enjoy the food..

This is a decent and spacious restaurant quite similar with the local standards. The sitting arrangements are not luxurious but the taste of the food items are quite good. The price is reasonable in line with the quantity and taste.

I had a very bad experience during my visit to this restaurant on 4th April,2019 for a lunch with my girlfriend.....I had order 1 plate of Mixed Chowmin, which is cost Rs. 190/-....So, automatically someone should expect a Good food according to the prices.....but when I get the plate, It was a small plate of Chowmin, with a roadside taste. We thought that, okk...its fine, lets eat...because not every restaurant has a good chef with them....so we start eating....but when I took a bite on a prawn piece, then I realize that not only the restaurant has a roadside taste in their food, it is actually a roadside restaurant and they have same vibes in it. The prawn wasn't properly baked, so it has a deep fishy smell in it, which was already ruined our mood, so we call their one of employee to inform about it, but he directly denied and leave us roughly. So we just paid the bill and left the restaurant. For sure, I will not comeback in this restaurant again, not because of the food, it can happen depends on situation, but the worst thing is not attending their customer, they really need to improve their manners and behavior, so that in future if the same will happen to someone, atleast their employees has minimum sense of patience to listen it carefully. I am sorry to give 1 Star rating, just only because we haven't any options to give them a big ZERO.....they only deserves that.

Situated between the busy new market, ambience is not at all good, service is not fast and the food preparation is also not good. We ordered Afghani chicken, but we got something else which was not Afghani chicken, but they called it that. The dishes are not same as you expect. Waiters have a ignorance behaviour. Today(30/11/19) They suggested us Chicken Masala which was ₹195, when dish arrives we saw minced chicken(which is actually used for chicken bharta) and the gravy tasted like chicken chap. And handed a bill of around ₹250, and then said the dish was Chicken Tikka, but the dish didn't looked liked chicken tikka at all, are we fools? Quantity is also not good

Last time when I had been here it was in my early days in job. We used to go for movies in the nearby theatres and grab a bite here; a typical good food at affordable prices joint in the area.<br/><br/>I went in during lunch hours and ordered a mutton fried rice and a soft drink. The fried rice was extremely tasty and quite filing. The rice was not the typical long grain basmati but a short and stout grain with a flavour. Generous amount of green shoots and shreds of an omelette with the shredded bits of mutton, well fried and caramelised a bit.... Very tasty.<br/><br/>Everything is a downside other than the taste of food, be it service or ambiance. Ideal rating should be 3.5 because of the food only.

Shopping at New Market triggers the urge to have lunch at Regent. It gives the feeling of 90's Kolkata. For so many years they have maintained the same food quality and quantity. Fried rice and chilly chicken is my patent food there. But this time I tried Mutton Biryani and chicken butter masala. Full filled my expectations and satisfied my stomach. That's all I want in this price range.<br/>The total bill was Rs.750.<br/>Will visit again whenever there's a new market shopping craze.

One of the old eateries in esplanade. You can varieties of food from biryani to chinese. We had veg food though. Paneer butter masala tastes really good but quantity was less compared to price. Tandoori roti was ok.

Located on a very busy point of new market area, a hard to miss place( but it won't matter much even if you do miss it). Ordered chicken biryani which was decided after taking a minute or two which, in turn, seemed to work on the waiter's nerves(a good loo k was received by my friend). The biryani was placed in front of us and the guy marched back to his post like an obedient soldier(not hearing for once what we were ordering next). For the food part, biryani was ok. A ghee ka tadka saved the grace somehow( it was not dry atleast)<br/>Ambience in old restaurants is not a point to mention so overall, the crowd did tell that the place is famous, maybe next time if we order with a military precision, we might get a better service.

AMBIENCE- 1/5<br/>FOOD- 2/5<br/>SERVICE- 2/5<br/>RECOMMENDED- No.<br/>Had visited this place once after shopping in Esplanade. The ambience is just as that of a roadside fast-food joint. The place had no A.C. back then. Had visited only because it was famed to be an old restaurant with quality food. The behaviour of the staff was not cordial. We had ordered naan and panner tikka masala. Taste was way below average. Prices were surprisingly high inspite of the sheer lack of beautiful decor, hospitality and most importantly the quality of food. Given there are roadside places around this area that serve much better quality food at 10 times lesser prices, I shall give this place a pass.<br/>Subhajit Paul

The worst restaurant I have ever seen...the food quality & quantity are very bad according to the price...the waiter was ready to take the tip but they didn't serve you water. They provide a jug only.

This is one of the best restaurant with big ambience<br/>I ordered paneer matter and butter paneer masala with rumali roti and butter naan they took quite more time to prepare but the quality and quantity was superb one can visit thia place without hesitation ♥️

It's an very old restaurant in New market area which is famous for its family cabin system of sitting arrangements and for its Kavirajis and Cutlets.<br/>I had ordered the following<br/>*Chicken biriyani<br/>* Chicken kaviraji<br/><br/>The taste of the biriyani was descent enough and the kaviraji was served with potato waffers and salad. However they take really long in serving afte because it remains heavily crowded throughout the year.

We had Mutton Butter Masala,Chicken Biriyani and Tandoori Roti.<br/>Among these 3 dishes Mutton Butter Masala was best.<br/>Taste was awesome.<br/>Price was reasonable and Biriyani was ok sort of.<br/>Staff were polite and Service was moderate.<br/>Overall 👍👍👍<br/>

We want there for a lunch tomorrow after shopping. We order Veg fired rice, Chilli Chicken, Tandoori Roti, Mutton butter masala. The quantity of food is must be high as per price but taste was very good not so oily and not so rich.Chilli Chicken and mutton butter masala is much better other dish.Decor was good and also a family restaurant and also pocket friendly. The staff was well behaved and well mannered.Total bill was my 645/- We trying another time to there.

Ok type restaurant due to situation and wether condition have to visit with hungry stomach, so ordered butter nun, mutton kosha, and a chk dish.<br/>Trust me the nus was like having flour it was so bitter reason full of black seed don't know for what they apply that much for garnishment mutton was rubbery. Horrible experience. Sorry but never visit again.

This restaurant is among one of the oldest restaurants which is located in the middle of new market. You can just fill your stomach spending Rs 200 for one and Rs 500 for two for having lunch or dinner here. The quality and quantity of the food is also up to the mark. One can get a heritage feeling having food here as this is a very old restaurant and small open cabins are also there.<br/><br/>I have ate here many times. On last visit me and my partner took mutton fried rice and mixed fried rice and a quarter of boneless chilly chicken and a plate of green salad. Both the rice was good in terms of quality and quantity however the portion of chilly chicken was not warm. Altogether one can have good food at an affordable price here.

This restaurant shows no signs of progress. It is as dingy, dirty, & clumsy, as ever. It's a very old restaurant | it should've upgraded it's standard by now, but the owners seem to be least interested | The trend with this restaurant is: Price going up; quality (taste) going down south.

Worst food in entire new market area. Even worse is the service. They served cold food and warm cold drinks. When we said is is warm he started arguing. Even the owners/ managers don't care how the waiters behave. We will never go there again.<br/>Food is costly in terms of taste and quality.<br/>Service very very poor<br/>

I was looking out for some Bengali fish items when I came across this place. Ordered the fish kabiraji and the fish curry with rice combo.<br/><br/>The fish Kabiraji was delicious. It was served with chips and made for the English equivalent of fish and chips xD. Anyways, it was a friend covering stuffed with fish and egg. It was very soft and moreover very reasonable. The fish curry and rice combo wasn't something remarkable. It was just okay. The service was quick but the behavior was just mediocre. It's not the ambience you would want at such a place as it's the food that matters the most and the pricing which is very reasonable.
Suraj Sachdeva
Didn't get the perfect rate of biryani,<br/>And please get to know what North Indian food is,<br/>Then serve!<br/>The staff behaviour is so casual,<br/>Overall ambiance was very very rushy.<br/>But yes the chicken chap was unforgettable,<br/>Overall experience was ok, not so good.

These places are all about nostalgia. Service, ambiance ae of non-consideration here. We go for food and food only in reasonable prices. We had fish afganistan, moglai parota there are both were good.

This resturant is a very old one located in the middle of new market that is esplanade. The food quantity is fair enough though the taste is okaish. The food could not fulfill my expectations but if youre hungry then you can definitely come here.i had chicken kabirazi , mutton biriyani , mixed chowmin , chicken friedrice and chilli fish. The fish was not so good but the kabirazi and the rice were okay.

nice place with good service. fish kobiraji is worth trying. friendly servers with good behavior. non ac but heat is not a problem. good authentic colonial style outlet

Very few people would know about this place although it is located amidst the busy streets of new market. Easy to locate. This restaurant has been there for ages. They serve better quality food than most of the new age restaurants. we tried fish fry,Nan, mutton kasha and mutton biriyani and fish butter masala. Fish fry had juicy fish fillets and flavourful coating served with chips and salad. The Nan was soft and light on the mouth, freshly made. The mutton kasha was the showstopper. It was too good to explain. The biriyani was not that good but okay. The fish butter masala had big chunks of bhetki fillet in flavourful gravy. Overall a nice dining experience. The ambience isn't much fancy. Just old Kolkata feels. The staffs are very friendly and helped in choosing the dishes. Would recommend if you need good food within a budget.
Indrajit Lahiri
It's definitely a nostalgic joint for me, ad i used to come here with my father and hence some brownie points for that. However, coming to food, the chicken kobitai cutlet and mixed gravy noodles (though it lacked shrimps) were ordinary, and even on the verge of being good. But the dry boneless chilly chicken was brilliant and definitely definitely recommended. Do y bother about the fishy version of the same dish, absolutely not worth.<br/><br/>Overall, good for a nostalgic visit
Soumya Senapati
The restaurant prices are quite high .... !!! And the dishes they served were ohk in taste. They served 1 chicken piece for 180/- impressive right ? The tandoori roti they served were too difficult to chew...
SUBHADEEP SAHA
Food was very Good.We took one Mixed chowmein and one Chicken chowmein and one chilly fish. Both the chowmein was very tasty.Gravy of the chilly fish was also juicy and tasty, but the fish was salty.

This is my 'go-to' place whenever am in town. The fish kabiraji being my favourite I want to recommend it to you. The old walls and traditional flavours will surely take you back in time. If you are in New Market for shopping just go grab some kabiraji which is extremely mouth-watering and pocket friendly. :)
Snehasis Mondal
Located @the crowded place of Esplanade. Tried their Chicken Reshmi Butter Masala & Chicken Masala. Both the dishes were bit spicy but the quality of the food was 👌👌

Situated in New Market area, this restaurant is quite old. It can be well understood by the interiors of this restaurant - plain and simple.<br/><br/>The dishes served here are delicious. I went there quite a long time back. I had Roti and Chicken Kasha with Salad. The dishes were presented quite simply but they tasted good. <br/><br/>Taste-wise, this restaurant is still counted as one of the best in that area, but they need to improve in terms of service. The staffs were well-mannered, but they need to be quick in action.
Arijita Das
Ambience wise menu of this place is very overpriced.Always crowded and noisy atmosphere.. Food is good in taste but quantity wise not enough.Chicken korma, chow mein, biryani, aloo matar etc dishes are good in taste.
Ivy Adak
Food quality and quantity both are very poor ! Yesterday we ordered chicken fried rice and they served rice which was not properly boiled . If there is any zero star I will definitely give zero.
Warren David
Food is ok but food takes too long to come  food is even overpriced for the qulity of food and decor is jut outdated no AC other hotels are better and the food has been downgraded too like in a mixed chow beofore there used to be good pcs of chicken lot of egg lots of big prawn and good pcs of mutton with fat now they just give little bit of very dry chicken and very little egg prawns are just small and less and mutton pcs are just removed the chili chicken is also not good as before the fish cutlet has become small and now comes with less chips and chicken pokora is just a mush of doe and every thing is overpriced and the menu card and other stuff is dirty
Shankha Mukherjee
This place is quite old and have visited a couple of times earlier during school and college days.<br/><br/>Recently went there and tried Chicken Cutlet which was served with Potato Chips (thats newly incorporated i guess) and salad.<br/><br/>The food was taste but the place has become shabby and the ambiance might not be liked by you. Good food in reasonable price.
Reggie Gomez
I used to like the food here eons ago.. The coffee is still good.. But everything else has just hit the ceiling.. The famous huge moghlai paratha here has become a tad too oily and i cannot make out what do they stuff it with. It tastes like soya flour n bread crumbs to me.. The potato on the side is dry and tasteless.. The the fish fry has reduced in size with a barely there fish slice.. The coating is too thick n u feel like u are chewing rubbery bread crumbs.. The indian dishes are too plain and the quantity is blink n miss..its definitely not pocket friendly considering the quantity they give and the lack of air conditioning.. The staff of course give u n old world feel.. Not worth the food but just worth the old memories and that is about the only reason why the place is teeming with patrons...
Shreya Bhattacharya
Pocket friendly. Quality of food is average. Quantity is satisfactory. If you are hungry after a tiresome day of shopping and you have only a few bucks in your pocket, this restaurant is not a bad option.
Tuhin Tushar Adhikary
We always order their fish roll and every time it leaves like why it is already finished!!!Today we ordered fish fry also but that was not so good.
Tanmoy Chakraborty
Food quality not good...As compared with price...dirty dining------------ price toooo high...............…...................................

Went for lunch with my friend.. and the food just cheered us.. we had chilli chicken which felt heavenly- one of the best definitely.. fish fry was also very tasty.. the pocket pinch is harmless.. must dine in..
Sayani Ghosh
Food is not really pocket friendly.. bit on the higher side I would say, although quantity is sufficient and taste is satisfactory. But the place is extremely dingy. There are few cabins but I really felt the seating arrangements could have been improved. Me and my friend had to rush and get hold of a table just as the people seated there were about to get up. We had to sit there waiting for the staff to clean up the dirty plates and leftovers! That was horrible.

Situated just at a corner of New Market area, Esplanade.<br/><br/>AMBIENCE: Its big area with largly maintained sitting arrangement. But it does not have any AC facility. It has cabin for families nd couples. Due to humid weather outside I felt little suffocating. But Overall ambience is average.<br/><br/>SERVICE: Now the service was good and staffs were also very co-operative. Initial I ordered Chicken biriyani but due to lack of time I cancelled it and changed to Chinese. And the staff did it with no fuss at all. Cleanliness is maintained.<br/><br/>FOOD: The price of food here are quite in a handful budget, and can be afford by everyone. The food was good. I ordered Chicken chowmin and it was served hot and in proper time what it needs to be taken. I guess to me the chicken was little more chewish.<br/>But overall the food was good.<br/><br/>Overall experience at Regent was average.
Mohor Roy
The ambience might not impress you but the food is good ... Visited there last day and we ordered Mutton kasa chicken bharta and tandoori roti .. Chicken bharta tasted really good...
Debopriya Roy
Can get food of twice quantity and quality at half the price in any road side stall. It's just behind New Market, so tired shoppers rush in, that is why they have somewhat of a crowd.
Anwesha Saha
A traditional old joint situated in new market area. They have huge sitting arrangements. Also have cabin system. Bt this place is non ac. So i felt suffocating inside. Food quality is avg. Service is good. We had mixed fried rice and chilli chicken. Both of these were tastewise good enough.. <br/>
Debottama Mukherjee
Regent has always been a great experience. The phrase "foodie's paradise" definitely fall fit to describe Regent. It has been serving its customers with food and love for the past 80 years. This place is not about great ambience or fancy gourmet cuisines, it is about the spice and flavours of India. It's about nostalgia and stories of how someone came with his grandfather and now comes with his grandson. Regent is the perfect blend of delicious food and nostalgia. I think everyone should experience the feeling when in Kolkata. <br/>Special mention : Kabiraji is a must try.
Reshmi Roy
Simple food joint with a crowd all the time.. tried tandoori nan and chicken bharta which were really tasty. Small cabins are also available.. pocket friendly restaurant with a good service.. normal ambience.. quantity is also satisfactory.. food quality is really good.
Choitali Goswami
An old joint situated in new market, this place is a decent option for mughlai dishes. The place is non-AC. They have few cabins apart from the usual table chair seating. Food is average. The biriyani we had was not extraordinary but certainly better than the present standard of new market aminia. The price is average. Overall, you can visit this food joint once in a while if you are tired of the regular options .

--<br/>really have nothing much to write about this restaurant..<br/>an old, traditional (non AC & having Cabin system), but not such renound but popular restaurant..<br/>located at the heart of the Kolkata.. Esplanede area, very near to New Market..<br/><br/>serve Indian, Mughlai & Chinese all.. we've tried the Indian & Mughlai..<br/><br/>avarage taste.. Good but nothing special..<br/>Biryani was a bit sented, with a bit salty flavored mutton makes it different.. but not bad..<br/>quantity is good enough for one, both main coarse and side.. but good amount of mutton (as we tried mutton only)..<br/><br/>overall.. not a fine dine out place but not bad for eating..
Nagma Nasim
The food was good.. i had fish kobiraji and it was succulent. The fish was moist from the inside amd the outside was crunchy.. the service was good amd the ambience is okay.,

Had visited this place after a shopping spree in new market. Ate chicken kabiraji here. I didn't like it but my parents did. So overall good experience ☺️

Service is not that great.<br/>They make you wait for a longer span to serve your food.<br/>Earlier the quality of food was good but now the quality has degraded.
Arumita Bose
This place always make me nostalgic as I used to come here in childhood days with family, generally during puja shopping. This place is known for its kabiraji and moghlai. Went there after a quite long time. Their taste has degraded but this place is still like before with people sitting with tea and chatting. This place may be far behind well decor restaurants neither have professional and courteous staffs but it gives a feeling old Kolkata.<br/>Best thing to try here is kabiraji along with cutlet and moghlai paratha as these are the things happening for years
Raktim Nath
Food is good. Quantity is also decent. But the price is not at par with the food. Dude, who's gonna pay 170 bucks for a plate of mixed chowmein in a dirty inn with no AC and proper fans? Alright, I payed. <br/>Though the food is nice, there are better restaurants to walk into in that area.

Regent Restaurant was once quite a buzz and due to this fact, my uncle, who used to once reside in Kolkata wanted me to buy stuffs from this place.<br/><br/>It is located in New Market Area in the corner just opposite to the ATMs of SBI and others alike, on Chowringhee Street. The time I was asked to order from this place, Zomato was not known to exist and hence did the blunder of buying stuffs.<br/><br/>I went there and asked to pack the Regent Special Mutton along with another item of Mutton followed by Chicken Korma and a Stew. There were one or two random items too which I do not remember now being it such an old incident.<br/><br/>Since, the preparation and time was taking a bit of time, I sat in one of the seats meant for dine in, and a shrewd waiter immediately came to inform me that I cannot sit if I don't order for food which I could have countered but decided against. After a long time, when the food came packed, I paid for the same and went back home.<br/><br/>On reaching home, we hunched upon the food to which I did not like the Chicken and the Mutton preparation was pathetic. While others did not comment much, as it was uncle's wish to order and didn't wanna disappoint him. Well, the order was a complete disaster.<br/><br/>A visit to be avoided much!

Everytime I visit New market for shopping I always end up eating here! Most pocket friendly. huge quantity and delicious food serving corner! Love their fish kabiraji wth potato chips! Chinesee foods are awesome too! Giant hall to accommodate huge crowd! love it there!

One of the most famous eatery of Esplanade area. Most of the families hop into this restaurant to have food. I would request you to check the food before having. I have stopped a HAIR on the tandoori aloo paratha.<br/>Also the flesh of the chicken had BLACK SPOTS on it. The meat was BROWNISH which marked it wasn't fresh. The chicken preparation was - Chicken Butter Masala. Below are the attached pictures of this place.<br/>Save yourself from eating at hygenic restaurants like this.

It is a big old restaurant located near new market in esplanade known for its usual dining especially in snacks offers a very old view of restaurants with cabins but their quality is detoriating now...offers all types of indian foods with a reasonable price

This restaurant runs owing to its legacy. The food is very average and sometimes even bad.<br/>The service is slow and inefficient.<br/>The interior is unappealing and uninviting.<br/>The only thing good here is it's cutlets and kobiraji. <br/>Regent restaurant still draws crowds only because of its heritage. But it's time they take measures to upgrade themselves to appeal more to modern Kolkata.

Kolkata is all about the old world and past relics. The city exudes a heady mix of modernity laced within the bowels of an effervescent past. Kolkata is also about its food. And the glory it radiates is simply irresistible. One such past relic is The Regent restaurant. Located near New Market on the rear of The Grand, diagonally opposite of the KMC, this misnomer of a restaurant is ever flowing with visitors. And a majority of them are patrons. It is not a classy or snazzy joint. But Kolkata breathes in here. The bhaat and mutton jhol is at its best when served piping hot at The Regent. It is a favourite haunt for couples tired from the tour of the bustling New Market. The Moghlai paratha is another delicacy which they call a legend here.<br/>So if Esplanade or New Market beckons, you know where to look for food.

After a decade, went to this restaurant to recollect my childhood memories at this place. The delicacies of the past have been degraded drastically. High pricing compared to the food stuffs quality and quantity are dissatisfying. Overall it might be good to fill your appetite but probably it will not fulfill your satisfaction.

Being super hungry and in expectation of yummy food we visited the place. Well it turned out to be good experience. Tried special kashmiri chicken biryani and chicken butter masala. Kashmiri biriyani was really amazing. Its full with gretted grated cheese and boiled egg and kismis. they used tandoori chicken in butter chicken masala and its taste yummy. The only drawbacks of this place is the ambiance. Its not good at all. Service was good and its a very pocket friendly restaurant.   <br/><br/>Ambience 1<br/>Service 3.5 <br/><br/>Food 4.5

This restaurant has old charm of being in the heart of Kolkata and has a fan following of its own but unfortunately I found the food is not good enough and not even at par in comparison with the street foods. It just serves some common stuffs those are eaten more frequently than any other food items. Not just that, I found the place is untidy and extremely unhygienic. It has quite a good location for doing an easy business even if it tries with similar and common items, but only if they serve with zeal and tidiness. I would give negative recommendation for anyone. Owners, Do it in better way or otherwise don't do it at all.

Tried their fish kobiraji and chicken briyani..<br/>Fish kobiraji was quite tasty, just the way I like it..but the briyani was cold and the taste wasn't that heavenly too..all in all pocket friendly and hygienic..

I wish there was an option to give a '0' rating.<br/>We walked into this resturant tired and hungry afer spending the entire day at new market but were rudely shocked.<br/>The ambience was poor. The staff looked like they couldn't care less about anything.<br/>We ordered prawn chow mein and fish butter masala ......the food arrived and we had taken 2 spoons of the prawn chow mein when we saw chicken bits in it. As my mother doesn't eat chicken we called the waiter and asked him to change it.He responded by grumbling and made us wait for an astounding long time before finally the prawn chow mein arrived. It appeared that the cooks had just picked the bits of chicken off as I spotted some tiny bits of chicken still there. <br/>Afer all this hassel it just didn't taste good. The fish butter masala tasted like the typical bengali 'macher jhol' which was a far cry from the original item we ordered. To top it all the food was ridiculously expensive for such poor quality, quantity and the other things that I just mentioned. <br/>All in all a horrible experience.

I visited this place with my friends once to eat biryani. The biryani was good. Another time I visited this place I had plain rice, dal, chicken or mutton which were really good. The staff were good. The decor is pretty ordinary though.

This is a very old restaurant in new market area. One of my friends took me there. The food was tasty. But I doubt the quality!! This place is not that clean and hygienic. Price is okay.

Today I decided to visit regent after my work for lunch since i was in a hurry. Regent is located at opposite of rang mahal near peerless inn. This restro's a very busy place since its near to the market so shoppers always pay a visit here.<br/><br/>I opted for a normal chicken biriyani. It had a normal piece of chicken & an aloo. The taste was okayish & quantity was decent but nothing wholesome. The chicken wasn't served with the biriyani but instead a piece from some curry was served which was unacceptable<br/><br/>But the only reason im rating this low is due to the exhorbitant pricing of the menu. The prices are too steep in my opinion. Being a non a.c restro i surge is too high. My biriyani cost 150 which wasn't a justified tag at any means. The service was good though!!

This is a Okies restaurant.. the price of the food is normal but the good part is that they don't charge any tax over that.. .. this is jst a casual food junction. So don't expect too much from here, but they always serves freshly cooked food..

I visit there yesterday....over price of food than quality and quantity....we ordered moghlai paratha.. it doesn't had any taste...most 3rd class restaurant..

Located at New Market an old restaurant Regent. Food is average, mostly like roadside restaurants. Has a huge seating arrangement. <br/>Waiters are not very friendly. But things are cheap in price.<br/>Not much recommend.

Fish kabiraji, mixed chow both gravy and hakka, egg fried-rice and mutton korma are my personal favorites. The food is worth the money they charge. The service is quite fast however the waiters have a little attitude problem. <br/>Lets talk about the food now. The fish kabiraji that they serve has a big chunk of fish that has been deep fried after dipping in a batter, it comes with salted potato chips. Its enough for one person quantity wise. The fish is always fresh, taken into consideration that I have had this too many times there. It has a little hard crust on the outside and the fish just melts in your mouth.<br/>The mixed chow has egg, prawn and chicken in it. Perfectly cooked. I find it very yum. A plate of mix chow is enough for two people only if you are okay sharing it with your partner.<br/>The mutton korma has this sweet spicy taste and the mutton just melts inside your mouth.<br/><br/> The rest you need to go to find out.

An age old food joint in the heart of kolkata...near new market...vast seating arrangements...non a.c...few of the waiters are a bit rude...I went there for quite a few times...n d food never disappointed me...not at all costly...shopping in new market is incomplete without a visit to this restaurant!

Absolutely disappointing place to be. My experience was quite poor. The place is mainly used for kitty parties and birthdays when I visited. A manager keeps on knocking at you, although the service was not so good with very normal food quality and quantity based on the pricing.

It's a pretty decent restaurant based in New market area. I still remember when I was in school and I came here for my first date. Lol! We had less money and we were very hungry and so within ₹100 bucks we got quality food. There is nothing fancy at all about this place. It gives you the retro feel. The people outside of Kolkata may find this place amazing as my elder sister is a mumbaikar. So, I introduced my mom to this place one day we went for shopping and last year my mom introduced my sister to this place and she felt very happy. So, extra 0.5 for the nostalgia.

Regent serves good food but i feel their quantity is less compared to the price of the dishes. Been there thrice and it was not a bad experience. <br/>Had Chicken Kosha once and the Aloo in it was yummier than the chicken!! Rich but nice. <br/>You won't be dissappointed. Try it.<br/>

Located near new market, visited this joint a couple of times and mainly tried their chicken biryani and moghlai paratha...the biryani was good but the moghlai was better. ..there's nothing to write about ambience...the place is always crowded and dont expect too much courteousness from the staffs...

Peach of a place if you are on a budget and looking for a good spot to dine...Would recommend trying the Special Moglai Paratha these guys make, it's absolutely mouth watering...The service could have been better but the always-buzzing and old school ambienve makes up for it.

I really wanted to give them minus rating.....the food is not actually good and place is also unhygienic....chinese food tasted horrible...lots of oil in every food....biriyani was also not up to the mark..visited two times...same experience everytime....a big no for this place
