Review Eau Chew - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Sayani Dutta
The food items were really good, even the fresh lime soda was good too - it was not like the normal soda that other restaurants offer. All the food items were delicious. The items that we had are - 1. Chilli Garlic Pepper Chicken (Rs. 522) 2. Fresh Lime Soda (Rs. 127) 3. Fish Finger - 10Pcs. (Rs. 689) 4. Mixed Fried Rice (Rs. 254) 5. Manchurian Chicken (Rs. 522) 6. Fish in Oyster Sauce (Rs. 689) Tung Fong is certainly the best Chinese Restaurant that I've ever visited.

Situated at a prime location, this restaurant is highly recommended for its Chinese dishes. For starters, we had Butter Pepper Garlic chicken (10/10), golden fried prawn (8/10) as the prawn size was not big with respect to the price. For the main course, we had mixed fried rice, mixed chowmein, Hot garlic fish and Kung pao chicken. Please note they serve mutton slices in mixed fried rice. Quantity and quality wise, I will give 10/10. We had a couple of drinks like Cosmopolitan, Ballantine and Chivas Regal. The ambience is nice and if you are a group of 6-7, then there's a chance you will be seated in a round table where you can rotate the table top. That is really thoughtful as there are times when we need to pass the food to others at the table. The waiters were nice and suggested as per our taste. They are really helpful. Per person cost: With drinks - Rs. 1142 approx Without drinks - Rs. 500-600 approx Overall, the restaurant is top-notch and the price was moderate. Be sure to visit.

Tung Fong is a popular Chinese Themed Restaurant in Park Street and like most restaurants in that area, Tung Fong is also a Hidden Gem. It has a grandiose ambiance with fine architecture and a grand golden sphere on the centre top of the restaurant. The food is very tasty and the service is helpful as well. This is definitely a good restaurant, especially for people who like Chinese Food.

The food is good only it doesn't accommodate you well, this is our annual puja dining space my family loves it here and so do i. I would always recommend this place for authentic as well as the best chinese in town!

Food is good. Service average. Parking can be an Issue on weekends around park street area. Cost for 2 pax - 1.8k Bon appetit 🤤

The place is great, the atmosphere is pleasant and very calm. One of old Kolkata places, you can't miss out on it. The drinks are cheaper than you'd expect, but the cocktails are not up to standard. The food is pretty good. The service is a bit lazy. But overall, great.

It's your typical classical Park Street Restaurant. Highly recommended chinese cuisine place of Park Street. The old Calcuttan vibe is perfect to spend a quality time and have some booze as well and food quality and as well as quantity are pretty decent. Staffs are friendly, food are very much affordable consideringother food joints around the place.this place can accomodate a lot of people together without hampering the service.Foods are tasty .... Overall its a lovely places for all foodies...

The place is nice and spacious..I went with group of friends and enjoyed a lot..the round table at centre is a catch..service was promt..food was tasty..wat else one can expect from a dine out..

Ambience is good. You can enjoy food with family and friend as well. A signature chinese eatery of Park street area. However, food is very much average. Service is good, though not that best and quick as you expect. Though a must visit place, some items will not satisfy your chinese hunger.
Sayantika Saha
It's a very well known place for it's chinese dish Overall experience was nice ... A very traditional place and the decoration was so aesthetic The quantity was not too much according to it's price ....

This Chinese Restaurant is situated at the end of Park Street carrying all the authenticity with it. One of the finest Chinese restaurants in Kolkata. Specially the prawn dishes are a must try. Lemon Prawn r Honey Prawn are a must. Rice noodles and special noodles are also delicious. I have tried them thrice and they never disappointed.

Been here a few days back. Food was tasty, portion size was enough and there was an enjoyable calming atmosphere around. a bit pricey though.
Subhajit Kayal
There is a far better atmosphere available in other restaurants. It's good not the best. They switched off air conditioner because of less crowd. Very bad. The manager is always irate. Don't know why. The food was good but could have been better.
Nilanjan Majumdar
The ambience is great. So is the food. I love to eat at this particular restaurant because they know how to please their guests' tummies. Parking is to be done on road which may become a challenging task on weekends.

One of the most premium and authentic Chinese Restaurants in the City. Almost all the foods that you order will surpass your expectations v easily. It's a 10 mins stroll from the Esplanade ( Shopping Malls / Sreeleathers ). Must try ones are the Quick Lime Soda, Tung Fong Special mixed friend rice, Green pepper Chicken, Hakka Noodles and Fish items. They do serve desserts too. 🥢🍤🍜🍱👨‍🍳🍤🍜 ( It's adjacent to Mocambo ) Happy Fooding ☺️ #enjoy

This was my first visit to Eau Chew. Absolutely loved the calm atmosphere. The food was awesome. We ordered Josephine's noodle,Eau Chew special fried rice,Schezwaan chicken and fish. They gave the actual betki in the fish item. The serenity of the place won our hearts. On a Sunday evening never imagined such a calm place in Kolkata.
Atish Jaiswal
It is located near Chandni chowk.<br/>The quantity is very less as compared to the price.<br/>Calm ambience.<br/>Card is not accepted.<br/>Previously is used to be good..but now the quality has gone done.<br/>The chowmein was too oily.
Rajkumar Biswas
Quantity is not upto the mark.<br/>Only cash is accepted.<br/>Card is not accepted.<br/>Calm ambience.
Chitran Roychowdhury
I will be totally honest. I had very high expectation from the oldest chinese restaurant in Calcutta. But it was not at all up to the mark. Food was not that good with respect to the price it was charged. Had Yam Chicken Wontons and Roasted Chilli Pork. Yam Wontons were very stale and was not at all tasting fresh. Charged a hefty price. The cleanliness was also an issue. I saw an insect in the vinegary soy that is always provided on the table. The only bright point was the pork. Subtle and very nice on the palette. Plunged to write like that from where I thought it would have been great
Rudradeep Biswas (RDB)
Eau Chew is probably the oldest chinese restaurant in town, and it's surviving so long. We had a visit in the evening, it was completely vacant though that time. As the offices go off, the crowd starts to join here for the very famous Josephine Chimney soup or noodles. The pork dishes are really yummy. This place is cost effective too. The ambience is very calm, service is pretty fast.
Rahul Mukherjee
It's an authentic Chinese restaurant... They have their own style of preparation that will give a vibe of true Chinese cuisine... Noodles and schezwan chicken were awesome... Price is slightly high...<br/><br/>Note:- they don't accept any card or you payment. They accept only cash.
Sourya Guhathakurta
Chimney Soup - best in the world. <br/>Rest all are okay except food portions. Perhaps to meet cost challenges, they’ve cut down on sizes. Abnormally small portions compared to price. <br/>It is the oldest Chinese joint in the city hence its ancient and has a 60s feel to it. However, it needs to upgrade as it lacks any decent crowd. The people seem very reluctant to serve as well.
Abheri Roy
What is meaning of authenticate Chinese dish today I have understood after reaching to this place. The place is not well decor or there is no high quality dishes are served they only serve the purest Chinese food which is actually less spicy. The phrase'never judge a book by its cover' actually true for this because by seeing the place you may be think that it can't be full fill your taste buds but give them a chance honestly they will not disappoint you. Okay so I had ordered<br/>1.chimney soup-this is the dish which serve very rearly in kolkata. I think only this place serve this till now. This is basically a broth with your choiceable meats and eggs, prawns, veggies. It's there speciality so if you come here please try this. But if you are 4-5 people then I think you should order it because it came in a very large quality.<br/>2.eau cheu special fried rice-actual fried rice should have a charocoal flavour which this rice had. And also its served with a water poach which took my heart.<br/>3.eau chew special meifoon-as we know that meifoon means rice noodles so the noodles was also very good and so soft and thin that it's just awesome.for side dishes we had ordered<br/>4. Sweet and sour fish-for side dish you have n option of taking half plate or full plate. So I took half plate of this fish. The fish was no doubt original vetki because the fish had all the flavor of vetki. The fish was fried with a coating but still the fish was so fresh full of flavour and also juicey. The veggies which are added to that dish were just tossed on flame and put on the dish that's why they were also adding there flavors to that dish.<br/>5.szechwan chicken-all other Chinese restro serve this dish with lots of red colour that's why many people avoid this dish but here there Funda is different they serve this dish as hot as other restro but they use szechwan pepper instead of any chillis or red sauce or any red colour. That's the actual centre of attraction of this dish. The chicken was also cooked crispy outside juicey inside.<br/>There main moto is to serve the lightest food. I like to eat the spicy food but this restro took my heart by serving this kind of food. Their foods are really very different from any other Chinese restro. I am highly recommending this place to everyone please come and enjoy some old authentic Chinese dishes in Kolkata. This place is a hidden gem.

We have ordered 3 items.<br/>1.Roasted fried chilli pork : it costs 300, taste was good. But the quantity was so so less. Even it is not sufficient for one.<br/>2.Chicken cantonese noodles : not upto the mark, not so tasty, less amount of chicken pieces were there.<br/>3.Schezewan Pork fried rice: not so good in taste, we were having hard time to find a small pieces of pork.<br/><br/>Don't know why they put less pork and chicken.<br/>Items are not up to mark with respect to the price. Not value for money. Will not recommend anyone.
Rajiv Singh
Worst Chinese food I have ever had. I had one plate of Noodle(Rs. 500) and side dish of chicken(Rs. 250). I got only three piece of prawn and three piece of chicken in so called Josephine Noodles, Eau Chew’s speciality. Taste was pathetic. I will recommend Crystal chimney opposite of E-Mall or Bliss at deshopriya park for better Chinese. BIG NO TO EAW CHEW🤮🤮. If you have any enemy and you want revenge, refer him/her to have food at EAW CHEW. Totally waste of Money. Don’t blindly trust Foodka Series also.

Loved this place, not only for the honest food, but also for the experience.<br/><br/>A small place bigger than a hole in the wall, not advertising beyond a lighted signboard, distinguished only by their food, a lineage of a hundred years and multiple generations, and a dogged decision to stick to good chinese food and resist the Indian influences - what can be more romantic than that.<br/><br/>The food was superb, subtly spiced and delicious. Liked the dedication of the third generation to persist with this even though they have alternatives.<br/><br/>But it may not hurt to move with the times. Smaller portions lower priced would help us try out more options. Helping the customers with advice on the different dishes would too.

Good food and courteous staff. The ambience is all right nothing too much. If you are planning for a small dinner with family or friends and you like authentic chinese good then this place is the right choice for you. Now for the food,<br/>We ordered<br/>Chimney soup(medium)- 5/5<br/>Loaded with prawn, chicken, fish is the best dish according to me that is served here. Loved the broth😍. Serves 4 people<br/><br/>Chicken fried rice- 3.5/5<br/>Nothing extraordinary. But you are expecting more after such a soup.<br/><br/>Chicken Manchurian- 4/5<br/>Soft, juicy chicken pieces was truly a treat for the taste buds.<br/><br/>Pork Manchurian- 2.5/5<br/>This is a place i think they need to work more hard as the pieces were s bit chewy and bit shallow tasting.<br/><br/>Only thing to remember this is a family run restaurant so give a call before visiting as they have strict timings.

Tried this place out for dinner a few days back! Located at Ganesh Chandra Avenue in a dilapidated building, this place is considered to be one of the oldest Chinese Restaurants in the City of Joy! Fully air-conditioned, this place serves authentic chinese cuisine which goes without saying! Simple decor with confortable seating accomodation, this place has it's own old school charm! We ordered Fried Roast Chilli Pork, Egg Chicken Hakka Noodles, Chicken Manchurian, Fresh Lime Soda & a soft drink! Our bill came around ₹970 which I felt a bit on the higher side compared to the taste and pricing. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal. The food was served hot & tasted good. Will be back here to try some of their other delicacies as well very soon. Overall, if you're hungry and want to fill your tummy with some authentic chinese delights, this is the place you should be in!

Eau Chew has been around for several decades. On a quiet Thursday night we made our way up the steep stairs and took one of the many empty tables in the establishment. We ordered chicken sweet corn soup, chicken egg gravy noodles and dry chilli chicken. The food was wholesome and filling being as close to authentic Chinese as can be.

Hidden among the lanes of Dalhousie close to the crossing between C.R Avenue and R.N Mukherjee Road in the second floor of an age old building, this place is truly a hidden gem. We ordered Josephine noodles, Josephine rice, Spring chicken, Garlic chicken and Fried Soya fish. Quantity of each dish is a lot and based on that the price is very reasonable. This place is recommended for anyone who likes authentic chinese food from a traditional family owned restaurant.

Awesome place near Chandni Chowk metro station for the best authentic Chinese cuisines. We ordered medium Chimney soup and roast chili pork. The quantity of food was too much for 2 people, but the taste was amazing. Do not expect jazzy ambience. It's a simple place that serves extraordinary food at very reasonable prices.
Sanghamitra Baidya
An excellent place for authentic Chinese dishes. Located very near to chandni chowk metro station. It is almost 93 years old. Last evening I went there with a large group of almost 9 people. We ordered Fried fish and Chimney Soup (large) in the starter. Then in main course we ordered Joseph's noodles and Joseph's rice, Rosted chili pork, Fish Bob choy, Chili garlic chicken and chicken Manchurian, and finally sweet and salty lime soda. All items were perfect. Fish was very fresh. All items are non spicy and healthy and tasted very well. With minimum decor they paid attention in the quality of food. The place is ideal for group of people.
Sarmistha Mullick
The ambience was average. The place is really good for family dinner or friends hangout. Food quantity is normal. I have ordered a mixed chowmein, a veg fried rice , a hunan chicken and a chilli roast pork. The chicken and pork dish was too good ....but they should be more careful about cleanliness and hygiene.
Rupela Bakshi
Too much expensive and quantity is not upto the mark and quality is very ordinary, ambience is ok.staff is also ok.The place is worthless in one word.

This restaurant reminds me of old days when my dad used to take me to restaurants for lunch...loved da whole experience...da building from outside it's very shabby & old...da restaurant is on 1st floor so climbing steep staircases were bit tough...but as I entered into da restaurant it was different...it was neat & clean..Airconditions are working perfectly...everything was put to their right places...one thing which I loved most is da aquarium...it had 12 parrot fish, one flower horn, one catfish and two imported turtles...they were awesome...even toilets were clean & dry with everything in proper working condition...all in all aumbiance was more homely rather than modern/new restaurants...now let's come to food..I was with my few friends so we had several dishes...all tastes good...chimney soup is a must try...golden fried prawns was vgood...roasted chilli pork was good but I found da meat a bit dry...flaming fish was a different dish...mixed rice & mixed noodles were their own recipes which we liked...service was good & prompt...they dont have many waiters...owners also attend customers for restaurant services...dis restaurant strictly does not use any additives or msg to enhance taste so all dishes taste authentic Chinese.. so overall my experience was grt & I would recommend everyone to visit at least once & enjoy da experience...one request to all...pls see da aquarium inside and tell me whether u guys like it or not..😃😃😃...eat good live healthy..bye bye

1. Had Medium Chimney Soup.<br/>2. The soup contains chicken, fish and an enormous amount of egg. Its served smoking hot with burning charcoal in the middle of the container so that the entire soup remains hot during the entirety of its existence. <br/>3. Do not be fooled by the price of the Chimney Soup. The quantity and taste are excellent. The quantity is enough to fill NINE soup bowls and the taste is good enough for someone to have FOUR of them during the SUMMERS.<br/>4. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem and is rumored to be India's oldest Chinese restaurant.
Arnab Paul
I would recommend this place for authentic Chinese food. I have been there once, and really want to visit again. We had Schezwan noodles and sweet and sour chicken. The people at the restaurant prepare the food in the authentic Chinese way. The food is really good and the ambience is also great.
Suchismita Sahu
Good and authentic Chinese food.Nice cosy and without any fuss ambience. Courteous staffs.<br/>One can experience the old Kolkata Chinese Restaurant feeling.Have been coming here since my childhood days. They accept only cash payment.
Reeya Karmakar
The oldest authentic Chinese restaurant in India, Eau Chew is worth spending money on. The food was awesome; healthy, tasty and the ambience was really good. The hostess was really polite and helpful. There are ancient paintings on the wall that caught my eye. Really beautiful.

Let me alert you first.Visit here in a group.Because the portion size they serve is not at all possible for a couple to consume for sure. You may stumble upon the price tag because this is not a fancy place. But the portion size alone justifies the cost.Situated at a stone throwing distance from the Chandni Chowk Metro this is calm homely place run by a native Chinese family.Housed at the first floor of an old world building it has minimal decor.Stepping inside the feel is almost like a time travel as if you are thrown away from the chaotic city.Sit comfortably and taste the authentic Chinese food in its full glory.Smoking hot Chimney Soup is the richest soup I have ever tasted. So filling,so refreshing.Tempted by the aroma from the kitchen we tried Josephine Noodles along with Schezuan Chicken. Both were wonderful. This place need to be celebrated.Eau Chew is a hidden gem.Explore it and get fascinated!

Vintage feeling once you enter this joint..The place ia located nearby chandni chowk metro..This place is being run by some Chinese native people who had been keeping the legacy of their ancestors who had eventually set up the restaurant..The joint is located in up stairs...Just a normal ambiance..Ordered Chicken mushroom veggies , Chicken Meifoon noodles and schezwan pork gravy..The noodles were good..I loved the chicken veegie..the shezwan pork could have been better..allover a good experience !!

Reviewing this place, where you feel like you're dining at someone's home and not at a restaurant, would be an exercise in futility. Just go and try their Chimney Soup and Josephine Noodles.
Husein Dhinojwala
One of those Chinese Places run by our native Indo-Chinese community.<br/><br/>Loved the decor, great Chinese and Tibetan influences. The Prices were on the costly side seeing we were in Kolkata and the place wasn't a fancy restaurant or in a fancy Location like Park Street. They did make it up with great Serving Size.<br/><br/>About the food, on recommendation we tried the Josephine Noodles and Mandarin Fish. The noodles were nice and fresh and had a decent gravy. They were light on the palate and not at all spicy like the Indian Chinese we eat otherwise. I did end up putting some salt and sauces to lighten it up.<br/><br/>The Mandarin Fish was superb and that's why I rate the place 4. The fish was a fillet that way crispy and fried. It was tossed in a sweet sauce of a tomato ketchup typed base with other vegetables.<br/><br/>Overall good choice to go there and enjoy with friends. This review does not include the vegetarian food ordered by my friends but they did like the Schezwan noodles while weren't to happy with their other dishes.
Sohini Basu
Enjoyed the authentic Chinese delicacies thoroughly. The Chimney soup was worth it and quite sumptuous for three. The other dishes that we tried, starting from the Eau Chew Meifoon, Fish in Chili and Black Beans, Chicken Schezwan were also delicious. Staff are very courteous and the ambiance is very cozy.
Sreejita Biswas
This is one of the best Chinese restaurant I've been to. The chimney soup is a must try. It's so delicious I'm salivating while writing the review lol. Anyway a must visit.
Hsujasmine
It is hard to come by a Chinese restaurant in India these days that stays close to Chinese taste, focus on health conscious and uses moderate seasonings and spices. Being a legendary restaurant, it serves authentic specialized Chinese dishes which you cannot find at other typical Chinese restaurants. I am really glad to find this place when we visited Kolkata on this trip! We will come back when we are in town next time!
Ayan Banerjee
Though it's bigger than before and they have replaced the rickety stairs, food isn't anything to write home about. The iconic chimney soup is just a salty broth. Other than the presentation, there is nothing to review. There is a strong fishy smell which may turn you off, and needs to be masked with lots of sauces. You get better chowmien and fried rice from your street side joints in your locality. The only thing eye watering in this restaurant are the prices. At those prices you can have a far better meal in Mainland China. This is my last trip here, and if aren't dying of hunger at the doorstep, search for a better option close by.
Kallol Chattopadhyay
Went there with many expectations but the food disappointed us. The decoration of the restaurant was nice which one can't expect that from its outer look. The soup was nice but salty. Even the roasted chilli pork and the chowmein we ordered were salty. I don't know why they added that much salt. Meat was nat looking fresh and the colour of the pork dish was pale, but the pork was well cooked. It was not up to the mark according to my opinion. If we compare it with other restaurants in that area the price was on higher side, as anyone can find better food in that price range in that area.
Soumi Karmakar
This place is worst . We went during the lunch hour when it was quite empty after the food was served we got to know why. The taste is just HORRIBLE !! They don't know how to cook Chinese at all...... don't know how come they have a rating of 3.7. The ambience is also nothing special. The fried rice was overcooked and the chilli fish had excessive salt. The shezwan pork was disgusting in taste and i dout whether it was pork at all.
Debleena Kumar
This is the place where you will find the authentic chinese.<br/>The decorations remined me the of those chinese resturants before the present mainland china days.<br/>May be the choices are not such plenty like any of Tangra area, but taste has not compromised like them.<br/>They do not have any digital payment option so carry cash with you.
H Lika Chishi
If you want some old china feeling, visit this place. I love the food and the ambience. I feel it’s quite pricy though. Most people may also not like the ambience( if you are into fancy places)but for me it gave me an oldish feeling and I loved it.<br/>

If you want a nice homely Chinese dinner with family which has value for money this is the place to be. Situated at the heart of central Kolkata this restaurant has a rich heritage dating back to the 1970s and beyond. Heard about this place from parents and the fact that it used to be one of the few good Chinese restaurants in the city.<br/>The famous chimney soup did not disappoint. The quantity is excellent. Quite tasty. The fried chicken and the fried chilli pork have excellent taste. However the noodles and fried rice need improvement. The dessert menu is terribly lacking. The place needs to revamp and expand the menu a bit if it wants to compete with the newer Chinese restaurants. Overall a good pocket friendly place.
Prateeti Pradhan
Situated just a few walks away from the Chandni Chowk metro station, the place is difficult to locate if you somehow miss the board. The building is very old and even the opening of the staircase which leads to the place is not very prominent.<br/><br/>As you enter the ambience is not very welcoming, very dimly lit. There was only one staff working and some of the family members of the owner were also sitting in the restaurant none serving or attending the customers though. The one staff present is not courteous neither any how interested in suggesting dishes. After giving us the menu card he stood there infront of us to take order just then and there, not even giving us time to look through the menu and order properly.<br/><br/>Coming to the food we ordered,Eau Chew special soup, fried fish,Prawn chips,Veg Hakka noodles, Cantonese mixed noodles, Vegetable with mushrooms. All the dishes for me was on the salty side, the flavours not much prominent compared to Indian Chinese but if you are a lover of Chinese cuisine you will like the food quality. They use authentic egg noodles for the dishes giving them the proper chewy factor of Chinese noodles.<br/><br/>For me the food was just above average, taking the factor I did not try any of their signature dishes, but the ambience and the staff detoriates the restaurant far down.
Abhisek Roy
Awesome is the word I would like to start with. Taste is very close to authentic Chinese. Was very satisfied with the quantity too. Will definitely go again
Habibur Rahaman
This place was in my bucket list for a long time due to it's good reviews of serving authentic chinese dishes. But I am very much disappointed after my 1st visit to this place.<br/>Ambience is okey .The building is century old may be.<br/>Staffs are quite indifferent to the customers.<br/>Food was complete disaster & overpriced also.<br/>We order for<br/>Dry chilly chicken- bland & tasteless<br/>Chicken cutlet-completely unappealing & taste below average<br/>Mixed hakka noodles-undercooked.<br/>Fresh lime soda- too much lime & average taste<br/>So my lunch experience with Eau Chew is complete unsatisfactory.
Klein Kman Kingston
Visited eau chew recently, was quite excited because of all the hype surrounding the place. I had a heavy lunch prior to visiting this joint, however I forced myself to go there. I was quite taken aback (not in a good way) by the food. Extremely overpriced and for no good reason. The roast chili pork tasted like overbooked pork and onions with a little water. Neither the texture nor the colour were appetising. Probably won't return, staff are indifferent, not great and yet not terrible. Not a poor experience, yet one I would mildly regret.
Ahana Sengupta
The restaurant is at a very interior place ...the food is good but it is quite expensive and the quantity is very less.... The behavior of the staffs are not so good... It's a family restaurant types and not so pocket friendly there are no wheelchair accessible entry... And the staircase is quite high..... It will be easy to access if someone takes the 6th gate of chadni Metro Station.... It is near bow barrack.<br/>Ambience -3/5<br/>food -2.5/5<br/>Service -1.5/5
Alisha Seddon
The interiors are very simple giving it a very homely feel. The restaurant is run by a Chinese team, the staff are friendly and well-behaved.<br/><br/>We ordered Mixed-friedrice, Mandarin Fish and Prawn chips. We did not enjoy the food much; as the Mixed friedrice was pretty bland, Mandarin fish was nearly tasteless and the Prawn Chips was very oily.<br/><br/>Overall rating:<br/><br/>Ambience: 3/5<br/>Food: 2.5/5<br/>Service: 4/5
The_Blue_Eater
One of the finest and most authentic place for Chinese cuisine. Their Chimney Soup is the trademark and one of the hearty and wholesome soups I have ever taken. The presentation is also very interesting. Also, their pork items are must tries. Quantities of all the items you order are huge ! Run by a Chinese family, their interiors are very simple and homely but their food is one of the best ! Recently they have hiked their price, so a star less :-)
Sourav Sarkar
One of the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Kolkata. The place has a nice calm feeling with a simple yet elegant decor. The foods they served is very good. The quality nd quantity both were very very good. We ordered schezwan chicken noodles which was yummy nd to pair it with we also ordered something less spicy that is sweet nd sour chicken. Both of them were tasty..<br/>If you are near Chandni Chowk metro nd looking for some food joints then this is the place. Don't even have any second thought regarding this place..

There are a lot of place in Kolkata servers chinies food, some are big names and some are small joints. In the list of the restaurant, servers authentic Chinese but yet to be that popular- added another name - Eau Chew Restaurant.<br/><br/>Location:<br/>_________<br/><br/>It is at Ganesh Chandra Avenue, a 4 min walking distance from Chadni Chowk metro station Gate No. 4<br/><br/>Ambiance:<br/>_____________<br/><br/>The first surprise - you didn't even expect a restaurant to be there. It was in a old , very old ( British Time) building. And the building is so old and unmaintained that having a restaurant there - yes you would have a doubt.<br/>well you will see the restaurant name board , while entering - you will have a long step stair and on the 1st floor - yes the restaurant.<br/><br/>Best part - the restaurant right now having a renovated look, yes it is having the cement floor. Cement wall with normal white colour paint. But the place is tidy to be there, and yes it is AC restaurant. :)<br/><br/>Table and Chairs are like what you find in the canteen.<br/><br/>Food:<br/>_________<br/><br/>Till the food, there was nothing to be cheerished for sure. But yes, food and only food is their USP.<br/><br/>They serve authentic Chinese mainly. We didn't tried much. But what we tasted was pretty good.<br/><br/>✓ Chimney Soup - The presentation , the taste, the amount all deserve a special mention. we took the medium one. Soup with egg, prawn, chicken, fish presented in a chimney bowl. Tasted just amazing. Best part it is healthy also and tastey also. we took the medium one. it is just more than sufficient for two.<br/><br/>✓ Chicken with Black Beans - 10 pieces of boneless chicken tossed with black beans. Chicken pieces are soft. It was nice.<br/><br/>✓ Fresh Lime Soda Sweet (2x) - Fantastic one. Perfect refresher.<br/><br/>Overall a very nice experience. A place with good authentic Chinese should be there in your wishlist.<br/><br/>All that cost 1260 INR for two.<br/><br/>Till my next review happy fooding.

They serve really good Cantonese food.<br/>It's a nice family place situated in the old central part of kolkata. And had its own charm.<br/>Try it's specials. Really good.

A quite and simple restaurant with exquisite and authentic chinese delicacies. Located within a 5 mins walk from Chandni metro, this place is a hidden gem in Central Kolkata. Ambience is pretty soothing with no music or any exaggerated decorations. We ordered a starter ( Roasted Chilli Pork ). It was very tasty as it had no extra masala or oil.. then we ordered a Mixed Hakka Noddles and Schezwan Prawn with gravy. The dish was adequate in quantity and tasted really nice.. it won't pinch your pocket much as the whole bill stood around Rs. 760.
Ashmita Ghosh
It's a very old restaurant. Does not have any extravagant decor. But the ambience is really very good. The quality and taste of the food is amazing. The service was fast. I really like the place and would recommend everyone to visit this restaurant if u want to taste authentic Chinese food.

Eau chew restaurant specialises in Chinese dishes. I think the owner is also of Chinese origin . But the location is not that prominent . The restaurant is located in an old building . But once you are inside , it's worth spending ₹ 750 for two . Dishes are authentic Chinese and quite good . Overall I think it's a must visit restaurant for those who love Chinese dishes. <br/>

Eau Chew is perhaps the oldest thriving place and one of the very few joints of Kolkata serving some quality Chinese cuisines. It is conveniently located near Chandni Metro Station , behind a petrol pump. The big dining hall is an added bonanza here which is decently adorned with minimal decor . The overall food quality is quiet good. The noodles as well as soups are delectable. Service and price tags are not something to call for high opinions . Overall ideal for 1st time visit.

This restaurant can rightfully be called as one of the oldest surviving family run Chinese restaurant in India. Close to hitting a glorious century in a couple of years, it has managed to retain the original flavours and adheres to the authentic Chinese traditions. It is located 5min away from the Chandni Chowk Metro station adjacent to a petrol pump. Their signature dishes include steaming chimney soup, chicken in oyster/wine sauce, flaming fish and fish with Chilli black beans.. The prices on the menu section in zomato are completely outdated since all the prices have considerably increased..

Perfect place to taste some authentic Chinese food. It is a bit different from other Chinese outlets as they haven't incorporated Indian flavours into it. The chimney soup is a must try♥️ ammmmmaaaazingly loaded with prawn, fish, egg droplets. And the medium one was more than enough for four of us! We had helped ourselves with multiple servings to finish that! <br/>For starters we had chilly fish which tasted nice. They serve bhetki.<br/>Then we had prawn meifoon, garlic prawn, honey lemon chicken and mixed fried rice<br/>The meifoon rice was okayish, nothing great.<br/>We loved the garlic prawns♥️<br/>The lemon honey chicken was really different but very nice. <br/>The mixed fried rice was again loaded with chicken and prawn but then again the rice is very thick and of inferior quality. I'm not sure if that's something authentic or if it's just an inferior quality.<br/>Our total bill was Rs2420.<br/>The chimney soup is a must try!!<br/>

This place is pocket friendly and quaint . We ordered chimney soup with spring chicken . The meinfoons in the soup made the soup tasty and filling ( small can easily serve 4 in small bowls) , it was tasty, but could have been tastier. The spring chicken was crunchy and over all good. But , the  Cantonese noodles were mindblowing. Pork mushroom as side dish was a perfect mix of vegetable and meat. Ambience decor and serving style will remind you of jackie chan movies.:)

The main purpose of the visit was to taste their legendary chimney soup, and also being able continue our search for the city's authentic chinese places was an added incentive.<br/>The place is at the first floor of an old building behind a petrol pump at G.C.Avenue. The place is clean and cozy for a dinner. Ambience is really calm.<br/>We ordered the chimney soup, available veg/non-veg in small/medium/large, and their small is not small. We were divided upon the soup's taste, as my fellow foodie friend found it to be somewhat bland, but I on the other liked it none the less. The soup has meifoon and lots of vegetables in the veg version.<br/>Then we ordered Mixed Fried Rice and Honey Lemon Chicken. The fried rice was absolutely delicious, with sufficient portion size for two, and the honey lemon chicken complemented the taste beautifully. This dish, what I found interesting, is that the chicken pieces are crunchy and rhombus-shaped.<br/>The service was at a good pace, and the place does not add GST. But very importantly, the prices have been changed by Rs. 80-100 in most of the dishes. So, the zomato menu is absolutely outdated.

It's a traditional place. The ambience is pretty basic. The quantity is good but the price is a bit high, I must say. They are CASH ONLY. They charge 5% GST. Interior is fully AC but dilapidated AC's strain to keep the place cool. The taste, some may not like it. We're accustomed to eat Chinese in modified Indian style. But this place, since it's run by a Chinese family, offers the exclusive original Chinese taste. So every item will taste different than our conventional 'Chinese' restaurants. One time visit for any foodie is a must.

Please remove the old Price ASAP. It was really an embarrassing situation when I visited the joint. Request all the Zomato Reviewer please do not trust this app. I had a talk with the owner and she told me that she had requested Zomato several times to remove their page but Zomato is not at all bothered to do the same.

I don't know why this place is so under rated..<br/>It's located near chadni Chowk metro station and it's difficult to locate..<br/>But trust me this place won't disappoint you at all..<br/>I tried the pork chops which was heavenly<br/>Chili chicken and noodles were perfect..well cooked and awesome taste<br/>A good Chinese authentic restaurant in Kolkata<br/>

This place is not a very well decorated dine in restaurant. Rather little shabby. It is on the 1st floor of a petrol pump with small stairs to enter. The ambiance is also quite average. It's basically a family run restaurant. We took chilli chicken which was good but the chicken was a little stiff. But I went there for a preparation which they call Josephine Noodles. This was the recipe of the shop owner. It's a mixed chowmin in Cantonese style but with less gravy but the taste is outstanding.

Must try their roast chilli pork... Stuff dreams are made of!! The Chimney soup was very good too. The place serves authentic Chinese food and is a must try if you are a Calcutta Chinese afficiando. A word of caution - they do not accept cards, so carry enough cash with you.

A ghastly place. Terrible food, service and ambience. Never going back again. The chicken was stale and the soup disgusting. Highly disappointed

Two weeks back we went to relive nostalgia and savour authentic Chinese food after a couple of years. But....1st they never had service which was up to the mark; it was barely passable, this time also they held on to that. Their was one old waiter who could barely give information about what was available and what was not, the lady at the counter was only interested about her phone. 2nd the food quality definitely has deteriorated. We order a simple fare - fried chilly baby corn, mixed fried rice and hot garlic chicken. The baby corn could have been rustled up by me at home with my basic cooking skills. It was insipid. The fried rice was chewy, obviously the rice was sitting in the fridge past optimum period. It ended up being equally tasteless. Cherry on the cake - the chicken gravy was stinking and the chicken pieces were balls of near rubber, hooray microwave! Really disappointing.<br/>They have installed ac and spruced up the decor, in the past few years, hope they do the same with food quality going forward.<br/>I hope there was a negative rating option. Few years back I had eaten their signature dish - Josephine noodles which was definitely good hence did not rate one.

Very costly and taste is too bad , they prepare fusion cuisine 😬 i have tasted euw chew sp chowmein which is totally a indian taste and its too much costly <br/>Even i have tasted chilli pork that's 👎👎👎 I didnt like it

The old and dilapidated building can discourage you but once you reach there then it's a bliss for near authentic Chinese food lovers. Chimney soup is just awesome and not easily available in every so called Chinese restaurants all over our beloved Kolkata. We like the whole menu, favourites are mix gravy noodles, chilli chicken and pineapple pork. As we heard it's a regular choice of many celebs who prefer for takeaway.

Authentic Chinese dishes are available here... the tastes of those are really different ... they r more bland in nature... the ambience is pretty peaceful...

Want to taste some authentic Chinese food? Then this is a place, you must visit. From outside you may think that Is this a restaurant, so old with high stairs? Yes! It is a restaurant which will make your day if you're a Chinese food lover. Ambience is completely serene in this place. I don't have any complain about the quality of the food and the quantity is more than enough for a single person.<br/>It's a vintage restaurant so don't go for it's outside appearance, it's much better than you see. ENJOY!
Deepanjali B Sarkar
Though its looks run down from outside, it has a cosy ambience inside and the food is delicious! The chimney soup, chilli roast pork and Eau Chew fried rice had distinct flavours. The chilli roast pork especially was tender and light. Another speciality was the chicken wine dish.<br/>In all, a relaxed, happy experience with family.<br/>A family of 4. Had roast chilli pork, chimney soup, eau chew fried rice, hakka chowmein, wine chicken, chicken pineapple. Bill approx 2000

Hidden in plain sight yet a bit tricky to locate, this place has been serving probably the most authentic Chinese in the city. Almost a hundred years old, this is probably the oldest Chinese restaurant in India and the restaurant provides testimony to this fact through some of it's signature dishes like the Chimney soup which is served in the hundred year old chimney pots with coal inside them. They haven't contaminated their recipes by hiring cooks from around and have carefully preserved them within the family. Yes, the generations of the same family cook the mouth watering dishes that get served on your table.<br/>Eau Chew is not just any other restaurant..it's vintage and a heritage of this great city. They do not care much about advertising themselves because they know they don't need to. However, the Chinese they prepare isn't Indo-Chinese... It's pure authentic, so you better know your order from the vast menu. For me, this place is gold and I love going back to them time and again. Don't forget to try their Chimney soup, Josephine's noodles, fish in black bean sauce, roast chilly pork and whatever you desire. It's more like becoming a part of an ongoing tradition. After all, this is the place that introduced Chinese delicacies to the gastronomic Bengalis.

Considering it is over 85 years old, "EAU CHEW" would definitely make it to every "Kolkata's Iconic Restaurants" List. Still family run (3rd generation has kicked in), in terms of ambience, this is probably one of the most homely Restaurants in Kolkata. Simple flavours, nothing over the top. I feel the type of food they serve here, can't really be compared to most of the other Chinese Restaurants.. As a result, people either Love the food here, or don't care much for it. I for one, am a fan. Be it the Chimney Soup, Fried Roast Pork Chili, Szechwan Pork (which they were kind enough to make dry for us), Stir Fried Pak Choy, or their Signature Josephine Noodles / Rice (named so after the present owner).

Run by a Chinese family located in the ganesh Chandra avenue , this place serves some nice chinese. Situated in the first floor ,locating it is a problem. Don't expect fancy decors. Pocket pinch of 900 for two. <br/>.<br/>P.S.- The prices are not same as given in the zomato menu .
Bikram
Food is delicious and atmosphere is good. Staff are very cordial with their behaviour. But one thing that really pissed me off was the fact that they don't take debit or credit cards. It's hard to travel with cash always..

TL;DR - Avoid this place like the old 500 rupee notes.<br/><br/>This eatery sits in a woebegone house behind a long-dejected petrol pump which is just a stone's throw from the Chandni Chowk Metro Station Gate No. 5, on the opposite footpath of the Broadway Hotel. One of my friends, Aishee/Ghoton suggested me this place and described as the ultimate holy grail of authentic Chinese cuisine in Kolkata. Now, unlike her, I'm not an expert on this subject matter, but I do fancy a hearty meal at Asia Kitchen/Mainland China and possess a little idea about how the authentic preparations could appear a tad bland for the untrained Indian palate. Even going by that premonition, the Chimney Soup, Fried Roast Pork Chili, Eau Chew Fried Rice and the Veg. Mei-fun - dishes that we ordered after much deliberation 'cuz not all thingz on d menu are available, ain't u get dat? noobs- fell short. Their signature soup fared relatively better on its own, as its flavorful lightness was a jolly surprise, and so did the pork (but I still swear by the one served at Gunjan) but all these little bouts of happiness disappeared when the He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named of the foodies' world struck- read Food Poisoning. My companion started feeling pukish just after we unassed the place and shortly afterwards had to go back in to throw up (the long ordeal while booking the app-cabs that followed didn't help either). All this while I have been trying to restrain my own stomach-churning only to give in upon reaching home.<br/><br/>So, basically what I'm trying to say is if you have a couple of five hundreds lying around, which are of no use to you, maybe try lighting them up to boil some water for tea, instead of going to this godforsaken place.

Eau Chew is a nice restaurant . The ambiance is quite good .The quality of food is okayish . But the appearance from outside is pathetic . You can hardly locate it .<br/><br/>

Now when people mention Chinese, it's usually the palate which we Bengalis have consumed for years. When I mention Chinese, it is Eau Chew. On Ganesh Chandra Avenue, off Mahatma Gandhi Road, diagonally opposite Hotel Broadway, lies this wonder. Perched atop an old building and guarded by a dilapidated petrol pump, which is no more in use, this wonder of a place is woven around Chinese mystics. The bustle of business has never penetrated it's sturdy walls and the perverse transformation of culture and the near destruction of authenticity has never really bothered the quaintness of Eau Chew. From the stillness of time to the gracious presence of the host and their staff, the restaurant is more than an eating joint. It is an integral part of the city and its glorious accompaniment with gastronomes.<br/>The chimney soup is as real as the Great Wall of China. It's as true to its root as probably any of our existence. The mixed Chinese fried rice along with the Eau Chew special is a combination any worthwhile stomach will never want to miss.<br/>A word of caution though. This labyrinth of wondrous delight is for those who seek authentic Chinese cuisine. Hence, the blandness of some of its fares might come as a rude shock. This is a place of magical make belief and if I am sounding patronising, it's because I am a fan and this is my fanboy moment.<br/>So the next hunger hits you and you seem to be stuck somewhere near Ganesh Chandra Avenue, you know where to go.<br/>Surrealism awaits you.

If you want authentic Chinese, this is the place to go to. Absolutely delicious! No other place in Kolkata serves Chinese dishes in such an authentic fashion.

The foods of Eau Chew are traditional and and the chefs and some staff members are Chinese. The quality of food is price worthy. They provide foods of sufficient quantity for any single or many individuals. The ambience of the restaurant is very good and calm.
Biswajit Dutta
Been there today. Tried chimney soup nonveg, medium. It's really heavy. So if you want to try it please bring 4 people to try the medium or 6 people to try large. But it's good. Looking forward to try other dishes.

One of the best place to have chinese food. Maybe the ambience isn't attractive but after having food its totally worth it. They serve fresh chinese food which is absolutely lipsmacking.❤<br/>Just few things to say, provide your service a little faster, quantity of the food is quite less and change the interior a bit. :)
Srijita Sengupta
If one needs to experience authentic Chinese, then this is definitely the place.<br/>▪Chimney soup and Josephine noodles are a specialty here.<br/><br/>Location: A bit difficult to locate. A small space in the first floor of the building. Run by the family themselves.<br/><br/>The place may not appeal to you but the authenticity is guaranteed. Easy on pocket and will definitely satisfy your stomach.

This is a Chinese restaurant in Chandni Chowk. Went there with high expectations. The portion sizes were good but the waiter misguided us and because of that we ended up ordering more than required. The taste was mediocre and there prices were not worth the dishes.

Authentic chinese food ..... It's was a feeling of having chinese food with chinese grandma...food was too good .plain and simple dinning ambience .Quantity is not up to the mark but more or less its pocket friendly.<br/>

Visited the restaurant for the first time. It nearby the chadni chauk metro station. I am in love with the place. So much homelike. A very calm ambience. The room is decorated with simple Chinese decors. <br/>I heard that this restaurant serves authentic Chinese food. We ordered mixed rice.. Schezwan chicken chowmin... garlic fish and chicken with mushroom veg. <br/>Food was damn tasty and had typical Chinese flavour and very light.<br/>But the quantity of chowmin and rice is less than compare to other restaurants.

This is one place where people would probably go for nostalgia more than anything else. This is one of the remaining authentic Chinese family run restaurants. Do not go here if you are someone who gives a lot of importance to ambiance, table setting, crockery, cutlery and all. Also, it may be a difficult for you to find the place if you do not know the area. However, post these initial few hiccups, the place will provide you your happiness quotient, for the food shall be good. The place is especially known for their chimney soup and the roasted chilli pork.
Arindam Haldar
I was told this THE oldest authentic chinese restaurant of Kolkata.... Had chimney soup, chilli pork, chilli chicken and cantonese noodles. Honestly the food was just okayish.... nothing great, but the ambience is quite nice, given that you are sitting at the heart of business district of Kolkata.

This is probably one of the few remaining authentic Chinese restaurants of the city!<br/>Obscure behind a defunct Petrol Pump, this is almost like a hidden gem waiting to be explored. Once you get past the confusing entrance, you end up at the door of this simply decorated restaurant with a few reminders of its heritage and past.<br/>This restaurant has been a part of this family for past few generations, where they have continued serving their age old family recipes to their patrons. <br/>Ask the boss lady, Josephine for chef's special. She would happily oblige by telling you about the fresh catch and best recipe to go with it.<br/>Neat and clean restaurant, with ceramic servewares adds to the charm of this place.<br/>Priced moderately, a meal for two would be definitely within two thousand rupees.
