Review Kapila Ashram Rishi Babur Dokan - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Dr.Dwaipayan Ghosh
This is the original Kapila Ashram outlet carrying forward the legacy of more than 100 years. One of the legendary yet underrated outlets of the city, it deserves to have its name etched into the leaderboard of the crème de la crème dessert corners of vintage Kolkata.

Don't be fooled by it's outer appearance. Yes, this place looks like a remnant of an old relics but it still has the punch. It has a variety of ranges of sherbet like green mango and curd, Malai and various other things, within the range of your budget , and it is quite delicious too. You should pay a visit to this place to get an taste of the vintage Kolkata, quiet a feeling!!

I have been going their place for the last 17 years. Same taste and quality. Fantastic will not justify the experience. Go and have a taste.

Want to have authentic homemmade flavourful lassi with malai go and visit KapilaAshram. More than 100 years old. Your taste buds will be full of taste even after finishing the glass full of lassi. Do visit the original one in the footpath. Not the Adi KapilaAshram. It's the fake one they use only syrups. The original one is that one which is just opposite of bombay dying shop beside indian overseas bank and infront of that fake adi kapilashram shop. They also sell kachuris in the morning and cakes during christmas. 30 rupees a glass. Do try Abar Khai and Kesar Malai.

Wonderful taste and the same taste till now when i have started drinking sarbat from their store. But be careful. Behind their store there is fake kapilasram store. Because their signature sarbat i.e. abar khai is not provided by them. And this original store. have their authentic recipe and tatse.

If you know this place, then you know. It's a small hole in the wall, quenching thirsts for generations after generations, at an absurdly nominal price.

One of the authentic malai sherbat or lassi with unforgetable flavour and taste , serving the society for more than 100 years.

Age old sarbat shop of North Kolkata. You must fall in love with their malai-sorbot. Located near srimani market, close to Vivekananda road- Bidhan sarani crossing, this shop is must visit during summer.

About a century ago Hrishikesh Srimani opened a small shop to quench the thirst of Bengalis.  Many well known literary personalities like Bibhuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay, Premen Mitra patronised the shop in earlier times. The tradition continues even today. Their roasted green mango serbet is an all time favorite. Among the ingredients used are 'malai' and 'khir'. It opens around 11 am and it is very pocket friendly. Experience the taste and a slice of old Kolkata.

Excellent sharbat and snacks at very economical rate

True bangaliana in spirit. The shop is an unassuming behemoth of Bengali tradition. Thandai available of Aam Panna in a concoction of Malai and Dahi with natural flavours. Must try. Moderately priced. Better alternative to Paramount sherbat.
