Review Gangotri - Kolkata (Calcutta)

It was 1999 when I visited Gangotri for the first time. The area had very limited options despite having a girls'hostel and multiple paying guest accommodations in the vicinity. Gangotri was one of the better choices. Cut to 2023 and I'm back in my favourite city. As I try to recreate memories by visiting places from the past, I end up savoring a masala dosa here. It still tastes amazing though the place has undergone massive change in terms of looks and seating arrangements. It's got an indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. The dosa was crisp, fresh, and tasted delicious. Service was prompt. Staff were polite and courteous.

So, it was Friday and we (me and my colleagues) had this awesome Chola Bhatura. The food was fresh and tasty. Must recommend. Thanks. ❤️✨

Best south Indian food in Kolkata. It tastes delicious and forgot to click photos, will surely click next time and upload it here. Became such a frequent visitor, that even the owner knows my all time favourite dish- fried idly. Absolutely lovable place and good service. Surely recommended outlet for foodies around the city, especially south Indian food lovers.

An excellent place for hang out with family and friends. The food is extremely delicious and they maintain hygiene too. The staff members are very cooperative. I have been visiting this place for last many years. A good place to have your lunch and evening snacks at a very reasonable price. Believe me, it won't pinch your pocket. One of the best South Indian breakfast I've ever tasted. Taste of sambar chutney is unique and delicious. If you want to try original South Indian breakfast this is the one. It took 15 minutes to serve the dishes which was little delayed in my opinion. But after I took the first bite of the food, it felt like waiting time was worth it. The food here is costly.

I am a Gangotri fan since last 20 years. They changed in decoration but the food remained the same in taste. Same team is serving for this period, knowing the choice of each customer. So their service is good. But, in my rating their foods are awesome.

Quite a pocket friendly with really delicious dosas. We tried a masala dosa and dhaniya dosa, both were superb and good portions. Staff is nice, so is the seating area. Also situated in a good location

Their Dosas are one of the Best in whole Saltlake... They are Crisp and Have Delicious Coconut Chutney and a Green Chutney. The space is small though but The Food Tastes Good here... Worth It place... Must Visit if you want to have Dosa and also searching for Pure Veg Options.👍💯

This place can’t be replaced! It has a childhood memory attached to it for me. I was addicted to their Masala Dosa! Still the best place for a good vegetarian meal if you ask me.

A moderate size cafe serving delicious Indian food. We ordered the masala Dosa, priced at 110, with Sweet Lassi. Dosa was good and substantial that is served with coconut chutney, sambar and mashed coriander. I really liked the taste of Lassi, priced at 65. The texture of the lassi is quite smooth. The taste is balanced. I think this has to be the best lassi I had in recent times. Now, looking to try their other dishes as well. It's good for 4 people. Location is convenient. Note: GST is being levied.

Best kachori sabzi according to me. The kachori is light and flaky. The sabzi is well balanced in flavours. Awesome. 😍

Small but good place, you get exactly what you expect them to be..simple ,tasty menu of small items, very nominal price but the place is a bit small and don't expect a fancy ambience..but they are worth the money..

Horrible experience. yesterday we had purchased thru zomato thali, Pao bhaji, dhosa and chole bhature... Oh my God...chole ,dal was so bitter.. seems the pulses were too old ...we thought of having chole bature for getting North Indian flavour...but miserably failed ....only the Pao bhaji and dhosas were good ....rest all money waste ...due to bitter taste..one should sale which they are expertise at...not all .

One of the worst restaurant. Ordered a papri chat, the curd was stale and rotten. I was unwell after having their food. Had to undergo for medication. When I called them up to raise the concern, the person over the phone, was very rude and was shouting on me.

Dosa was not at all good, chutney was stale or prepared from rotten coconut.

Often went there for breakfast or dinner. It is one of the most economical restaurant with good quality of food. Perfect place for family dining and friends hangout. Good South Indian food

I went there once for having a quick lunch... And undoubtedly I love their food... Opted the thali and it was fantastic... Also the coffee was great too.. Service was really fast... Staffs are friendly too... Seating is available here... Only problem is the cleanliness... That need to be taken care off... pocket pinch is quite acceptable...

Average food but incredibly bad behavior. They keep cancelling one order a lot of times and it gets really annoying. <br/><br/>Their South Indian dishes might be pretty good but their Thalis are horrible. <br/><br/>Avoid this restaurant and don't get fooled by the low price! Bad behavior and unhealthy food is everywhere in it!

Gangotri serves moderately hygienic average tasting food. The service is quite fast. The ambiance is very average. In the times where brands like Bancharam, Bikharam Chandmal are present in the nearby area I think it's time for Gangotri to step up it's game and restore the brand value it had few years back. Parking is available.

I don't get time to post reviews, but Gangotri is one such restaurant that deserves a review. Gangotri is very near to my workplace, and most regularly I order my lunch from Gangotri. South-Indian dishes are one such cuisine which no Indian can ever give a miss. I am a big fan of Masala Dosa of this place. The Coconut Chatni is delicious along with Dosa. Every time, I skip or forget to bring my lunch, I make a point to order my lunch from Gangotri. They also serve North-Indian, Pizzas, Pasta, and affordable meal thalis too. What makes them the best is that at a pocket-friendly price they manage to serve both quality and quantitative items.

I have only tried south indian here for breakfast. The portion size is good and the food also tastes good. Nice and clean.

The Genie Dosa is just genius. Laccha Paratha is something that I come for, regularly from Mumbai, whenever I am in town. Love the humble and friendly staff. Cola Float melts me, it's just too good. I have ordered Club Kachori hundreds of times for Rakhi Functions and Bhai Dooj and Bhai Fota Functions and Gangotri has always been ready to serve its 100% and very wonderfully.

They are few people who don't like South Indian food. After it's proven to be one of the cuisine that keeps the stomach happy and avoids upsetting it.<br/>Located in what we know as the Swimming pool block, or BF block to be specific, this place is great for dropping by to have a nice plate of dosa or Idli.<br/>I am a fan of South Indian myself and have tried Dosa in various restaurants and food joints. Here, the speciality lies in the potato filling on the dosa. It's pretty great. There are a lot of options on the menu, but it's safer to stick to the two main dishes already mentioned. Dosa and Idli. The Chole Bhature was not a good experience here with very oily Bhatura and super dry Chola side.<br/>Considering South Indian food, mainly Idli and Dosa generally cost less in most restaurants in kolkata, this place is priced at a little higher budget. However, it is very reasonable and affordable and has the additional perk of being able to be relaxed and to sit and eat. Discovered this joint accidentally,and who said accidents are always adverse.i was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food that i had ordered here.we ordered a masala dosa and chole bhature,the food was just awsome and tasty as it could be,the dosa was crispy and the masala given was nice,the tastiest thing was the chutney and the sambhar,i cannot forget the taste of that coconut chutney,it was just right in the texture,the feel and had right amount of ingredients and spice to it,the green chutney and the red chutney was also very very tasty. How can i forget the chole masala given with the bhatura,it was the best i have ever had, perfectly cooked with the tastiest ingredients.one point has been deducted for the quantity of the food they provide, though it is standard but a bit let down with price.

We dropped in here for a casual lunch as we were nearby this area for work. We ordered for special gangotri dosa, cheese masala dosa, grilled veggie sandwich, mojito and rawa cheese dosa. Food was very good along with the service. They have a congested outlet with few chairs to sit outside as well. Overall a good place for quick lunch. They have specials thalis , pizzas and pastas. Do give it a try.

A good value for money and hygienic place for some quick bites. Their portions are good too. We have been frequently ordering from Gangotri and they have never disappointed.<br/>My personal favourite is the cheese schezwan dosa and the quintessential idli sambar.

The chole was spoilt. Not consumable. The pulao was just normal rice with 2 little slices of carrot. Watever it is they should never give spiilt food. People can fall sick

I had taken a delivery of Ghar Khi Thali from this restaurant. Taste wise the food was very good. Portion was more than adequate. However, I chose to give it three starts because of the packaging. Instead of having a set meal tray, which is sealed and delivered by other standard restaurants offering thali meals, this restaurant had packed everything separately. Also, their was no spoon given.  Hence, if you are ordering this as a working lunch because of the packaging it ends up cluttering your desk

Best food and always tastes like home made. I had idly here every month at least. Even eating daily here doesn't becomes boring too. The staff is very friendly and hard working.

The food is nice and lives upto good standards. The sabji of chana paneer is very good and I had chana so good in long time that I just avoided the mistakes in the food. Nice food but can be made better. And proper marketing of the place is also needed for people to know about it.

If you wanna eat healthy food this place is the right place for you. They use so little oil or ghee in everything. Even their fried rice was not even fried.like it.

This vegetarian restaurant is located right opposite the BF clock Domino's outlet and Santa's Fantasea. It is always teeming with a regular crowd of vegetarian office goers and college peeps. The food here is nothing to write home about . In fact , it is tad expensive given the taste and quality. The chola bhatura here tastes average , with a weird black looking chola that made me wonder what they put in it! Anyway , the place is super popular for dosas and veg meals , so if you want a plateful of healthy food , you might consider this place .

This is an old joint, no frills vegetarian place in Salt Lake.<br/><br/>I recommend this place for their dosa, plain, masala and open genie dosa. <br/>The pav bhaji is brilliant and the pav is not very greasy.<br/>The service is fast. One of the best veg restaurent in saltlake sector 1.. i have been there for many a times as i was living near the restaurent.. and it have never disapointed me

Lunch dinner is available with food is not too good. Just that it can now be said according to me as "last resort". Along with that Pepsi, Limca etc is available with ice creams also available. Sometimes they also have some flavours of Natural Ice Cream.
