This place has a history. Last generation connects it to their youth. Food is real nice. Few good things on menu. Value for money. A good place for a drink or two. You would hate the ambience though. Its sully.
PRATIK KUMAR PANDA
Nice place. Although if you dont like alcohols stay away. Crunchy chinese dishes are good. Prices are reasonable and its best place to give treats to your friends.

I just love this place. It looks so sophisticated, and most importantly the place is so well maintained. The drinks are also varied and a wide choice is available.

A bit costly compared to its counterparts. Lack in the decorum as well as the environment. However food quality and service is top notch
Somnath Roy
Very Good place to spend time with drinks in silence. Friendly behaviour of staffs. All over very good.

Went in for a quick drink and kind of dissatisfied. The place is well lit and have a tv set infront. However the ambience is kind of lacking if you are looking for a romantic or cozy place. The staffs are well behaved. However the food and the bar menu is overpriced.

Visited there last friday..though its in esplaned but nearer to chandni metro station...place is nice...but its more a bar than a restaurent...foods are good....
Nilanjan Ghosh
Pathetic in one word.
The food server suffices an appetite of a 5 year old.
Very poor ambience and a pathetic food quality.. hugely over- priced.
Will recommend never to visit this place.. don't even search for it in the zomato app.

Everyone who grew up in 90's sagar and amber was the place to be on Sunday's there use to be long ques outside one of the most popular restaurant of 90's.
Went there for a friendly reunion with old mates
Food was great as they have maintained the quality and their dal makhani was awesome service was good and the drinks were cheap
Only problem was parking as the place is surrounded by singing bars so we had difficult time in getting a place to park our cars
A must visit place for everyone

This is a simple restaurant cum bar and serves good food and the ambiance is ordinary. This is an old bar of the city and the prices are reasonable with the taste and location.

Not sure how many times I have been here when I was kid. All I remember is the paneer butter masala and tutti fruiti ice-cream that use to make me so happy.... The waiters were so courteous and so friendly it's quite unmatchable now a days... I'll love to go here once again if I get a chnace

A favourite amongst the 90's daddies who's frequent this office para restaurant quite a bit! The food has the traditional taste of Esplanade/Park Street restaurants. Recommend this place to foodies who enjoy an unpretentious meal of tasty cuisines.

My all time fav restaurant. Must try Kabli Naan, Paneer Butter Masala and Chicken stew. I bet you will never get this taste anywhere other than Sagar and Amber.

Long back it was very old and authentic restaurant.. In fact my childhood the chicken reshmi butter masala they served was too good but now a days it's horrible... Service is too bad and the quality they served can't amazing...its very good location so requesting management to look into this matter immediately and regain the honour...

Poor service
Awful ambience
Still feel regret to there..
Thought it's a part of Amber so it would be nice like that only
But Naah thumbs down..

Sagar is another age old popular restaurant in the area located on Meredith Street close to Chandi Chowk Metro..It used to be one of the more classy and higher rated restaurant..Together with Amber(owned by same management) they had created a unique name in the kolkata food scene..but sadly in recent times there has been a steady dip in their food and service..Coming to the ambiance the stag section iin ground floor is kind of creepy, full of obnoxious drunk people..The family section upstair is better, the ambiance is nice, huge seating arrangement with comfy couches..the looks is kind of old though and they haven't renovated in a long time, please avoid the bathroom for sure..Coming to the food they basically serves almost the same spread as offered in Amber, some old classic Continental and Anglo-indian dishes, some tasty popular North Indian spread, and a few redundant Chinese dishes with a special mention to the acclaimed Desert section..The staffs here is real lazy and kind of arrogant as well, need a change for better..The pricing is definitely on the upper side but unlike Amber they kind of don't justify the food they serve.. so they must look to elevate the dishes and introduce some fresh changes.. Coming to the food I usually prefer the Indian spread, special mention to the Apple juice served here, used to be childhood favourite..Amongst the food Recoomended dishes are Fried Prawn, Chicken Pakora, Mutton Peshawari Kebab, Baked Fish, Mutton Moti Biriyani(Passionately recommended) and the evergreen Tutty Fruity..Pocket pinch would be approx Rs.1200/-(incl tax) for 2 people without alcohol..Their booze is moderately priced, whiskeys are better priced while the Beer is actually a bit highly priced here(guess sell more)..
Food: 3/5
Pricing: 3/5
Service: 2.5/5
Ambiance: 3.5/5

Well the pros of this place is its interior, very comfy sofas to sit and a good ambiance,, the service is up to the mark.. kebabs and biriyani are the must try here.. its part of the amber brand which is a very old and renowned restaurant in kolkata.. the pocket pinch is a tad high so not advisable if you're looking for something with a tad more realistic pocket.. the food is great.. liquor prices are well reasonable cause there are places with higher liquor rates in kolkata..

Great place to go for if you are looking for good kebabs with some drinks. Their fish finger and pineapple blossom are my favourite and I am sure am not the only one. Part of the Amber group who are the biggest catering company in the city so one can expect quality food and service. Do try it if you're in the area and looking for a drink with some amazing snacks.

There Tandoori chicken is the best. Restaurant ambiance, food quality and quantity, polite & professional service is their plus point. Overall a good place

This place is no hanky-panky yet it very well does what a restaurant is suppose to do, serve some tasty cuisines. This is an awesome pits stop for north indian dishes. Start with their specialty Fish Liverzene, it shall blow ur mind. Then treat ur palate with some spongy fish malai tikka, butter naan, paneer butter masala(the best i have ever had), cream palak, chicken bharta and matar polao. A wholesome an sumptuous meal for the entire family with full satisfaction. Not highly rated for its ambiance though, but the primary objective of serving good food is fulfilled to the fullest.

A nice place for non vegetarians, the food served was nice , highly enriched with flavors , mutton biryani lacked that authentic taste but was average on taste, egg and Chicken curry were nice , infact cooked to perfection, the ambience was quite disturbing else overall a nice visit!

The once -popular family restaurant Sagar , located on Meredith Street across Bentick street near Paradise cinema and also owned by the person who owns Amber , was flocked by the elite of Kolkata , for its vegetarian cuisine .

As an youngster, accompanied with my family members, I remember we would often end up for lunch at the Sagar because of the long queue at the Amber( the place we had originally decided to have our lunch) but never regretted it as we always found the food very palatable.
I liked the Kabuli Nan, Paneer Butter Masala, Jeera Pulao , Dal Makhani and the Aloo Raita.
The small vinegar soaked onions & the mixed pickle as part of the standard cruet was a trend-setter !
Those days the Aloo Parantha , which was native to Punjab & new to Kolkata , was a rave amongst the people of Kolkata.
There was always a feeling of great ere & satisfaction after a meal here at the Sagar!
This restaurant still boasts of a very faithful & dedicated clientele , moving down the family , generations together! The ambience is very homely .

P.s: Parking is often a problem & with luck you may find some space!

Frankly, Sagar is one of the worst restaurants I have ever seen. The food is quite atrocious. And the prices are simply too much. Also, even when deserted, the food takes ages to come. Add the creepy ambiance along with all these cons, Sagar is a place which should be avoided. Allow me to make a friendly suggestion- Jai Hind Dhaba, for North Indian cuisine. Check it out foodies.
