Review Fung Shway - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Sohom Sengupta
Arguably the best Thai food restaurant in Kolkata. Had the pleasure of the owner, Mr. Dilip Massey, personally helping us choose our menu. Very warm and cool person. It's not everyday that the owner of a restaurant comes to ensure that patrons have a good experience. Definitely try the Bali Prawns and Chicken green curry. The desserts were fabulous as well, we had the tempora and coconut caramel custard. Must go if you are in Southern Avenue and looking for good oriental cuisine. The serving staff were also very courteous. Will for sure visit again.

This is a lovely dine out located at Southern Avenue just opposite to the Nazrul Mancha, beside Indthalia Restaurant. The place serves pretty good food in Chinese and Thai cuisines. The Mushroom Dragon Balls here and Tai Pei chicken are worth dying for. I had also ordered some Spicy crispy Konjee chicken, and Mixed herb Special Fried rice which were really good. But the main delicacy was the Darshan, in which they served their self made Vanilla Ice Cream. The actual vanilla crystals in them gives you the feel. The Liquor collection here is also pretty good and versatile. They have everything here ranging from the famous Johnnie Walker to a Breezer. I loved the ambience and the heartwarming welcome here... Was really good to be there. I have already visited there twice and looking forward to go again.

I'll start with food. It was so good, the appetizers were amazing, drinks were awesome, and the main course was better than what I had expected. Ambience - It's such a nice place, for family, for couple outings, friends hangout, or anything really. Customer Service - The staff was extremely polite and checked on us every 5 minutes. Loved it!

Loved the green Thai curry. Presentation of sushi platter on a boat was awesome.

I call myself a food snob who has travelled to different countries and tried various cuisines. As much as this place DOES NOT serve authentic Asian food, I have to admit the food was incredible. The dessert did not live up to the other food items but overall the experience was great. The staff was also very helpful and polite. Next time I come to Kolkata, I will definitely go here again.

It was unfortunate we had to wait for sometime as the place was full. It was our first time there, the owner/host was very pleasant and friendly. Food was pretty good actually, the special occasion menu is limited. So will visit on a regular day to check. Overall a great dining experience, price is slightly on the higher side.

The experience was delightful. You get Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian under one roof. Plenty of options to choose from. The sushi was outstanding and the soups were delicious. In Japanese we tried Yaki Udon which was non-spicy noodles, a must try if you do not want non-spicy noodles. Numerous items to choose from the menu so better come empty stomach! The ambience was classy, I must say it was really good. The staff were very courteous and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to try Asian food and wanting to spend 'lavishly'.

Enjoyed a 5 * lunch at Fung Shway! The special Thai soup with additives, the king Prawn and fish starters and Main courses with Basil fried rice were all delicious! The service was exceptional! The courtesy visit by owner Dilup Massey was well appreciated! 5* experience!!

According to the price the food is just average . .. We ordered garlic fried rice and chilly paneer. The price charged a whooping 797 , for npt so special fried rice.. Interior was great.. Built in a large spacious place but was amazed to find 80%vacant on a puja awaited sunday.. Nothing great but an costly experiment...
Lokesh Mehra
I liked the chilly chicken dry with bone, complimented well with the beer, it was desi chicken preparation.
Shahnaz Parveen
Great Food, services, really enjoyed the evening. We ordered Chicken Nasi Goreng which was not even in the menu but they have taken the order without telling us it's not in their menu which was surprisingly great! rates are okay with the quality and services.

Good ambience, hospital is excellent, foods are also very good... And very impressive and appreciable personality of the owner, who was coming and asking that is everything thing is going good or no?? Which is really impressive, i am really glad to get that kind hospitality, Sir DILIP 'the owner' thank you very much. Must visit it.

Dilip, the owner of the restaurant is the hottest piece I ever had, he serve me with warm hospitality which is more authentic/ oriental then the oriental cusine under the hood, All his team member equality qualified to take the experience of having food to next level. .. there is no question about the chef who is best in town. ... Cheers to fung shway team

Awesome food... Absolutely loved every single dish .. Especially the sushi, dragon mushroom, papaya salad and Thai green curry
Debjit Lahiri
A little overpriced and one rice which costed 500 bucks wasn't enough for 2 of us. No complain about the quality. The lamb tasted so good. Quantity was a factor.

Located in Southern Avenue just 5 minutes walk from golpark and below WhatsUp Cafe, this restaurant is very easy to locate. Coming to the decor it it is very well decorated with a complete bar section as well as a full dining space with sofas and very good lighting. this is a continental restaurant specialising in Chinese Thai Malaysian and Japanese cuisines. Some of the dishes that we ordered were -

Kimchi salad
Orange base Mocktail
Pineapple base
Strawberry base
Am panna base
Chicken Laxa
Papaya Salad
Bali prawn
Ayummadhu
Korean Lamb Chop
Smoked fish Thai style
Dee's Prawn
Saffron Noodles ( chicken)
Nasi goreng
Sankaya

Some of the recommended dishes from me would definitely be the strawberry based mocktail , the chicken laksa soup which is served with various condiments which you should definitely try, the Bali prawn which is a signature dish of this restaurant according to the owner.

Other dishes that I really liked the Korean lamp chop, the smoked fish Thai style and the desert that is sankaya. the food here is extremely delicious and I would definitely recommend to visit this restaurant soon.
Mehal Dokania
It's a nice place to sit and catch up with friends. The food is good. The service is very slow and can be much better. Avoid the saffron noodles. The Malaysian rice preparations are good.
Shreya Saha
It is a good choice for Oriental food lovers....I had their Chinese and Thai...they were awesome...and mild spicy....the pork was extremely juicy and wonderful in taste....a must visit place in South calcutta
Edward Liao
The food quality was not too bad but the quality of the sushi platter was not up to the standard as to what they are charging with that price. I had ordered the Oriental toast with Shrimps, it was tasty but was more towards the oily side. The Mee Goreng was delicious. I would Southwest you visit the restaurant only when you have extra cash to blow as everything is really expensive here.
Indrani Bhattacharya
Located in Southern Avenue (near golpark).
A well decorated place amd staffs are welcoming and helpful.
I ordered of theirs unique dish... Laksa soup. Its taste was soo unique. And it was served with some option of toppings. Then ordered a lamb dish. Followed my beer, tequila and whiskey.
What i found was too much was the price of the food items.
Shaunak Chatterjee
Firstly, the service was excellent. Now, coming to the food, we ordered Bali prawns made with fresh prawns, whole bhetki fish with Thai herb sauce, Nasi Goreng and Lamb Rendang curry. The whole fish was unique and its taste was mind blowing. The quantity was more than enough for three people. Only scope of improvement is Nasi Goreng. Overall, a splendid experience.

My visit to Fung Shway is a hell lot of an experience. I will be happy to visit them over and over again not just for their excellent quality and diversity of food but for their top class, overwhelming hospitality. Let me first deep dive into their ambience.
An extraordinary state of the art themed restaurant. The decor suits the theme and is pitch perfect. They have a separate section for bar and also provides a private dining area.
Coming to the food, they have an array of Chinese, Thai, Malaysian cuisines which might definitely give you an exotic feeling.
We tried:
Kimchi salad
Orange base Mocktail
Pineapple base
Strawberry base
Am panna base
Chicken Laxa soup
Papaya Salad
Bali prawn
Ayummadhu
Korean Lamb Chop
Smoked fish Thai style
Dee's Prawn
Saffron Noodles ( chicken)
Nasi goreng
Sankaya(dessert)
Each and every item was exceptionally unique and tasted delicious. The chicken laxa soup is highly recommended.
The bali prawn was the best starter ever and is an unique preparation by the owner of the restaurant . Ending with the dessert sankaya. This was such a delight.
The hospitality here is worth noting. Each and everyone is so welcoming and they make us feel at home. We couldn't resist ourselves taking some quick snaps with the entire team of Fung shway.

The weekday started with lunch at this amazing place located in Southern Avenue, just beside What's Up Cafe.
Talking about the ambience,it gives you the typical Japanese restaurant feel with the lighting's and the decor.Divided in three parts: bar, private dining and one general,it can easily accommodate 100 people.

In food,we ordered :
✔️Kimchi salad
✔️Orange base Mocktail
✔️Pineapple base
✔️Strawberry base
✔️Am panna base
✔️Chicken Laxa
✔️Bali prawn
✔️Ayummadhu
✔️Papaya Salad
✔️Korean Lamb Chop
✔️Smoked fish Thai style
✔️Saffron Noodles ( chicken)
✔️Sankaya

Recommended items are:
✔️Am Panna Base
✔️Bali Prawn
✔️Korean Lamb Chop
✔️Ayummadhu

Overall,it was a great experience out there and it's worth giving a try.
The Shadow
Was searching for a good restaurant around southern avenue and cane across Fung Shway. Hence visited today.

Ordered the folowing doshes:

1. Bali Prawn: The journey started with Bali prawn and to say the very least I'm giving five out of five for this. Amazing dish. Fully worth the money. Deep fried prawns with sweet chilly sauce. Hands down show stealer for today.

2. Thai Fish (Bhetki): Once again, a fish that ruled today's lunch. A full bhetki fish that literally leaves you in awe in terms of shape, size and taste. Nicely cooked, filling and leaves you with a feeling of peace.

3. Barman special - Bull Frog (Vodka): Thanks to my bartender for suggesting this. I asked for a cocktail that will hit me hard and he just said, 'I'll give you Bull frog'. It did hit me hard and left me tipsy.

4. Old fashioned: The final drink, as Jaeger Bomb and Black Russian were unavailable, had to go with this. Nothing much to mention. Your regular old fashioned.

Overall, had a beautiful lunch experience at around 2.4k. Ambiance was nice and staffs are cordial here. You can ask them for suggestions regarding what kind of food you are looking for and they will guide you accordingly.

Recommended.

Went there for lunch on the 1st of January. The staff were courteous although we had to wait some time for the food to be served, it was worth the wait. Spacious interior. Definitely a go-to place for people exploring fine Asian cuisine. I went there for some Japanese sushi but there's a huge variety of delicacies in the menu. Definitely looking forward for a second visit!

A beautiful and quiet eatery located a few steps away from the busy Golpark main road, this is a definite recommendation. The staff was very cordial and hospitable. Coming to the main thing, the food, it was also very delicious. For starters we had Chilli Lamb and Smoked Chicken. In the main course we had Mixed garlic fried rice, Chinese fried rice, Hakka noodles, Chilli chicken and Schezwan chicken. We were a group of 6 and the stuff was enough for us to fill our tummies and almost forcefully stuff ourselves with more.

Visited this restaurant few days back to have a taste of Japanese food which had been in my wishlist for long. The restaurant is located quite conveniently at Southern Avenue. The interior of the place was quite excellent. We had ordered ika sushi, shrimp roll, cha han rice and punzo mustard sauce fish. All of the items were delicious and mouth watering. The fish in punzo mustard sauce was my favorite. However the restaurant took quite a long time in serving the food which kind of was a disappointment for me. After one dish arrived, I had to again wait for 20mins for the next one. So I feel the management should look into this. Overall I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for the excellent food.

We went to this place for a family dinner - we were 7 adults and 2 Children ... we had drinks ( Chivas And Vodka) and different starters and main courses - for starters, we tried minced crab meat which was spicy and tasty - decent size prawns in dry sauce . We also tried the whole fish in Hot Garlic sauce which was really delicious. For main course we had rice and noodles and some side dishes (chicken n lamb and prawns) .. overall we had a very good experience and the ambiance of this place is also great .. the staff was friendly and courteous. We will definitely recommend this place to others.

We chose this place to have our sumptuous lunch on the Christmas afternoon. I must say that the place is quite cosy and the ambience is quite good. We ordered quite a lot of food and the quality of each of them was quite impressive. The staff was courteous as well. The visit was definitely value for money. The decor is beautiful as well.
Anyone who is planning for a romantic date or quiet hangout should definitely give this place a try.
They serve quite a wide range of asian cuisine and all the items we ordered were available. Except the last two dishes the rest of the dishes were served quite quickly.
Food- 4.5/5
Staff- 4.5/5
Service- 4/5
Price- 4/5
Decor-5/5
We ordered the following (in order with the pictures uploaded)
1. Kai chi Chicken.
2. Fung Shway special mocktail.
3. Transfusion mocktail.
4. Chicken sweet corn soup
5. Pho Soup
6. Chicken mee goreng
7. Fish Assam Pedas.

A must visit every time we visit Kolkata. They have become even tastier if possible! Equally good pan Asia. We travelled across Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine effortlessly. Don't miss the accompanying chilli paste ! Keep it up Dilip

Sunday afternoon lunch are usually special. Thought try out a new place and we selected this place basis the zomato ratings. Located on the main road with limited parking this restaurant does not have valet parking contrary to whats mentioned on Zomato.

Ushered in to see just about four tables occupied on sunday afternoon but had good decor and ambience. Settled in - just two of us- ordered one drink, one started, one main course. Till this point everything seemed good!! Neither the drink nor the starter came in for next 45 mins. When The steward who took the order was asked about the untrained person does not even bother to reply properly. Walking away from our table he kept saying “its coming. No decency of a good dining restaurant to wait and answer customers politely. The starter came after 45 mins along-with the drink. We ordered cocktail cups as starter and the cups made of rice (cups) were stale and absolutely hard.
When informed to the same steward he picked one of the empty rice cup by hand and took it supposedly to show to chef.

Did not bother to change or give is feedback on what happened thereafter. Thankfully the main course was good!! For us the experience was bitter and felt watched “thugs of hindustan” live!! Horrible service!! Horrible starter!! Horrible steward. Beware!!
The Gluttonous Gal
Extremely happy with my husband's decision to try out this place on our Anniversary.... Did not have much expectations aside from the pictures featured in the glossy menu.... So naturally was pleasantly surprised by the warmth and close eye kept by the staff.... It was almost like having a personal concierge, helping and guiding you at every step.... The food was excellent and we are delighted by the service too...

We had Sake Maki, Squid ink flat noodles (which came with Wafers as garnish) and Dry Chilli Pork in Thai Style....

A must go place if you want to experience food and service excellence....

Went there on nabami eve. The place was heavily crowded but it was very eye catching that though the place is crowded with plenty of orders people are ordering, yet they didn't compromise the quality of food and the staffs constantly going table to table asking how's the food, whether we're liking or not etc. The foods were also tasty and ambience was nice too. Highly recommended to all.

It was a Sunday and I Had initially planned to visit a different restaurant but since it was completely booked, ended up entering Fung Shway..

At the onset I would say that its an authentic Chinese restaurant that has excellent decor with 2 floors of dining space. Even though it was Sunday evening, the place was mostly empty, so we could choose to sit anywhere we wanted. Anyway we chose to sit on the 2nd floor which is more spacious and has big glass windows to complement the lovely decor..

Ordered a pan fried chilly fish, they served 10 pieces and it tasted really delicious.. we then ordered Non veg Chinese flat noodles and it was quite good enough for serving two.. Though the chunks of chicken could have been a bit more but taste wise it was pretty perfect.. This was complemented by some vodka and rum!!

Very nice and polite behaviour of all the staffs and it can be a perfect place for selfie lovers.. It is a bit on the expensive side and I felt prices could have been lower by 20-25%.. But overall a thumbs up!!
Pritam Paul
A very nice fine dining restaurant.. The food quality is too good and i will recommend everyone to visit the restaurant at least once. The staffs are very customer friendly and the ambience if the restaurant is also very nice. Planning to visit it again very soon

Visited on 16.8.18
Pros:
1.Ambience was great.
2.The host(owner) was welcoming.
3.The chicken garlic Noddles were great.
Cons:
1. Service was super late.
2. Served in a bowl with dripping gravy over the edges.
3. Lack of service boys, the poor souls were running hither and thither, partial to some particular table. The restaurant management got a lot of work to do.
4. The owner must take a note of the rest room, their size must b increased for a restaurant of that seating capacity.
5. Though the noodles were great, the chicken fried rice was pretty average.
6. Lamb with sweet garlic sauce was not worth mentioning.
7. The cheese namkeen served with my beer, were all CRUSHED(left over of the packet, who knows) i dont know might b becoz it was free. BUT on a serious note u can charge it, so that the customer gets what he paid for.
Very cosy and calm ambience. Food quality and amount is good. Friendly staff, prompt service. Not at all pocket pinching. If you are looking for something different than mainstream Chinese, the place is a must visit.

Located in Southern Avenue, this place boasts of a calm ambience with plush decor & minimalistic interiors! The fine dining restaurant is spread over two floors. The first level is a bar with a few covers, which are mainly there to service lunch. The top floor accommodates a large number of people. The interiors done with rich gold and beige colours give a very soothing ambience. The menu is exciting since it is very extensive and is divided into sections based on South East Asian countries. They serve Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Oriental, Korean, Japanese & Asian food! The enormous menu will leave you awestruck once you go through the vivid mouth watering options!

Needless to say, the food that we were served turned out to be amazing thereby compelling me to suggest The Chicken Tom Yum Soup, Korean Lamb Chops, Tai Pai Chicken, Chef Special Black Magic Noodles, Chicken Hungsai, etc!

Coming to the mocktails & the cocktails that they serve, we had the Fung Shway Special mocktail which was not only fizzy and refreshing but also had a energetic element in it with tint of gandharaj lime, ginger & aam panna. Loved it.

The Sankhaya Caramel Coconut Custard with Ice-cream was surely the stunner for the day with it's mesmerizing taste, wonderful flavour & fantastic presentation.

Overall, the service is fast, the staffs are responsive, food quality is good and quantity is more or less adequate for two hungry souls!

Presentation of the dishes is yet another plus point which I'll highlight followed by the quality of meat they use. The meat quality is definitely good which makes it succulent & yummy to munch on!

Pricing is a bit on the higher end, though. But the experience was surely a great one!

Taste Quotient : 4.5/5
Service : 4/5
Decor & Ambience : 4/5
Kai Chai, Tai Pai Chicken, whole fish pickle ginger sauce, Pan fried prawn noodles, Chinese prawn fried rice and fish canton... these were the dishes tried. Whole fish... is worth trying. Kai Chai was too sweet and didn’t resonate with my preferred taste . Fried rice was tasty.

Situated just beside Indthalia at southern avenue. Nicely lit up place..with courteous staffs. We ordered Tai pai chikhen which was pretty decent..Thai fish which is specially commendable as it had flavour and aroma of lime which was just perfect ..also a chikhen side dish to go with it which was flavoured with basil and lemon grass..overall a nice experience.

It was my first time trying sushi and to be honest, the experience was great. We had the Nigri Sushi and the Tempura Maki which were both great. And the acidity of the rice was just in the right amount with the raw fish. The Paad Thai and the Kungpao Chicken had the authentic Thai taste. The service of the staff was really welcoming and pleasing too. All in all, I'd go back any day to this place.
Suraj Iyer
Went to this elegant dining-resto with 7 others at about 3 weeks back, and had a pleasant experience of a group dinner. The restaurant has a provision of dining 8 people at a time in a separate room, where we went and had a gala time. Overall the food was great and the entire ambiance alongside diplomatic staffs, concluded a brilliant night.
If you really wanna try something new and you are open to some new cuisine especially japanese you must try this place atlest once. The chef was really kind enough to come and greet us and tell us about the sushi. I loved the gesture alot! The staff was really well behaved and friendly and helped us to order exactly what I wanted as the names were quite difficult to understand what it actually was. The only thing that bothered was the quantity of sushi was little smaller than my expectations other than that I don't find any problem! A must try place if you want to explore in Japanese cuisine!

Finally made the visit after several unsuccessful previous attempts. We were welcomed by a courteous staff & later attended by Mr. Dilip Massey himself. The Menu had everything Asian (from Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Japanese). Finally ordered Bali Prawns (Indonesian), Seafood Salad (Thai) and Oriental Chicken Toast (Chinese) along with Beer and Sex on the Beach (Cocktail).
After a long time, I had some good Bali Prawns - my favourite still is the one from Lemon Grass at Hotel Mayfair Lagoon, Bhubaneshwar. Kudos to the Chef at Fung Shway.
The Seafood Salad was a bit blunt - maybe our choice was not proper. It had shrimps, calamari & something else which we couldn't make out.
The Oriental Toast was again delicious, though bit heavy. The sauce was awesome as well.
The cocktail also didn't taste good.
Next visit I'll try some main courses & update further. Cheers....

Tried the healthy salmon temaki which tasted awesome with wasabi, ginger and soya-vinegar. The rolls were freshly made with raw salmon and fresh vegetables while the sticky rice was tasty too. Awesome Japanese dish and will definitely try out more very soon.

We were guided so well through our Asian indulgence, it added to the experience. The ambience, food, music, service, everything was excellent. Got a chance to thank the super talented Chef for a lovely dinner. Will visit again for sure!

Beautiful ambience, really courteous and friendly staff. The drinks are great. Go for the Sushi boat this season. I suggest with 2 to 4 people atleast. Their chef special soup was really special for me. Over all a great dining experience. Do ask for their complimentary lemongrass tea. The aroma while it is being made is truly enchanting. Great place.

I visited this place few months back but missed writing the review..the ambience is nice and comfortable and the staffs are quite kids friendly as I visited them with my 1 and half year old son..
Another good thing that needs to be mentioned is that they really recommend well as per your likings..
For starters we ordered Korean lamb chops-lamb was so soft and tasty..Chicken Satay- the chicken was juicy and not dry as you get in most other places, and Dee’s Prawn-a tangy and tasty dish.
For the man course we ordered pad thai, chicken rendang curry, chicken fried rice with basil as per thei suggestion and prawn thai curry.
I was really satisfied with the food. The price is on the higher side but the quality matches it.
I would like to visit again..

Not a very vegetarian friendly place. The laksa soup and stuffed fried tulips were really good which increased our expectations. However for main course we ordered fried rice and potato and corn in hot garlic sauce was below average. Fried rice had no vegetables and broken down mcain fries was used instead of potato. Also it didn’t quite taste like chinese.

One of my favourite restaurants in town. The ambience is extremely beautiful and even better is the food and beverages. They literally blew my mind with their exceptionally mouth watering, tasty and served fresh😊

Tuna maki sushi - quite average quality and quantity. The tuna was certainly not fresh, and had a stale fish aroma. I've had way better sushi in Calcutta.

Radna - Probably the only dish worth eating. Well balanced subtle flavours with great aromas.

Jai Thai - over salty and full of msg. The taste buds felt dry and salt burnt after having it.

Crispy fried squid - some of the squids were quite chewy. The plus point of the dish was the sweet chilli sauce served as an accompaniment.

Overall not a very happy experience!

Finally - a delightful eatery into which its owner Dilip Massey has poured his heart and soul! The cuisine is Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian and Japanese. A party of five we dined there last night and started off with Oriental Toast, Tempura Maki, Pork Hot-Basil & Salmon Roll (Sake Maki). For Mains there was a lovely smoked Punzo Mustard sauce pork (with Japanese wine and Thai sauce), Singapore prawns, Chicken Aromatic accompanied by Mixed Khao Phat Rice and Mee Goreng - Prawn Noodles. Taste of everything was outstanding. Total spend including liquor was Rs 7800. Service - could be better (some servers were absent) - I would rate this as a must visit place. The icing on the cake is the wonderful host (owner) who suggested all the dishes after understanding what we wanted. We are surely going back - and suggest you do too - And YES - They do take reservations.

Fung Shway is not only about good food, it is about bringing your dining experience upto a whole new level. It has won us over with its exquisite ambience, courteous staff and of course mouthwatering delicious delectable food.

Laksa Soup:
Laksa is a Chinese-Malay delicacy. A dish that showcases the fusion of Oriental style and Indian taste, Laksa is definitely something that kicks off your dinner in the perfect way. A creamy, pungent, savoury bowl of soup is served hot in a large bowl along with small bowls of condiments ― fried noodles, pad thai, chinese coriander, boiled eggs, peanuts and lime to mix into your share of the Laksa soup. The soup was simply perfect. Undoubtedly it is the best Laksa we have ever had.

Tai Pai Chicken:
Double fried crispy chicken tossed with red chillis and shallots and glazed in a chilli sauce. The chicken was soft and juicy, the sauce complimenting it well and the double fried chicken. A nice starter.

Nasi Goreng:
You will be surprised to not see this one on the menu as it was prepared by the chef on personal request and he absolutely blew us away. Nasi Goreng is an Indonesian version of the classic chinese fried rice served with chicken skewers, prawn chips and salad. The rice was very well prepared tossed to perfection, extremely savoury with all the juices from the chicken, it challenged the Laksa for the dish of the day.The skewers were soft doused in a sweet barbecue sauce. Again it was the best Nasi Goreng ever and its a definite recommendation.

And we got served complimentary Jasmine Honey Tea served at the end of the meal keeping with the Japanese tradition.

A special mention to the staff and the chef of Fung Shway. They welcome you, make you feel at home and attend to your every needs, taking special care to know your preferences.

Cost for 2: Rs 1200

If you found this review helpful please like this post, follow our page for more reviews and share it with your friends.

Thank You!!

A few months ago I had a wonderful dinner with my family here. But a few days ago I had quite an average lunch. If you are willing to visit Fung Shway for an amazing Pan Asian experience, do not opt for the combo meal.
I cannot recall all the details of the dinner we had ordered but here is a brief review of the combo meal for lunch. My rating is based on my previous experience.

• Chinese combo (450/- with GST)
One fresh lime soda or mocktail
Sweet corn or hot and sour soup (veg/chi)
Rice/noodles
4 pc of veg/chi (Manchurian/schezwan/chilli)
2pc of fish/veg (hot garlic/sweet n sour)
Dessert – darsan with ice-cream

• Thai combo (550/- with GST)
One fresh lime soda or mocktail
Tom yum or pataya kang soup (veg/chi)
Basil rice/thai noodles
Smoked veg or chi – 4pc
2pc fish/veg(chilli tamarind/chilli plum)
Dessert – ice-cream with caramalised coconut

• Location – hemanta mukherjee sarani, southern avn, beside whatsup, near golpark

• Time – 12-4 pm

I had Fung shway on my wish list for the longest time as I wanted to try Asian food other than Chinese and indian. And they definitely did not disappoint. We were warmly welcomed as we entered and they had really great suggestions when it came to food. For starters we ordered Chicken Tori Katsu, which was amazing in one word. It was like this great amalgamation of really fancy fried chicken and chicken cutlet. Then for main course we ordered Chicken Jai Thai noodles which was quite nice. Then we ordered Chicken Rendang curry and they provided a small complimentary rice bowl, which was really nice of them. This curry was amazing too. Then at the end they also served us complimentary herbal lemongrass tea which was the perfect end to this great meal. The only drawback though was that they asked us not to click pictures with DSLR, even after we told them we were foodbloggers. We were the only customer on that floor and still they said management doesn't allow that. Anyway, food wise it was great!
Food: 4.5/5
Ambience: 4.5/5
Staff: 4/5
Pocket pinch: 4/5

We wanted to go to Whatsup cafe, but it was a Saturday and we reached at 8. Need I say more? No table even after a 40 minute wait. This place is next door and looks quite fancy and sophisticated. Chinese is my all time favorite. There was nothing better for my tired feet post shopping.
The decor is nice and space is huge, so I kept wondering why this place is so empty. I realized post my meal.
There were our orders:
Caprioska & beer for drinks- The cocktail was nice and refreshing, just how it should be.
Pan Fried fish for starters - Just about okay. The sauce was nice, the fish was tasteless though.
Chicken sweet corn soup- It felt like I was drinking sugar syrup with lumps of cornflour. I pointed out the lumpy cornflour to the waiter, he argued those were corn kernels and went ahead and stirred to prove it was nothing. So not expected from such a place.
Veg Burnt Garlic fried rice & basil chilli fish for main course: The most tasteless and flavorless fried rice I have ever eaten. We literally had to hunt for vegetables. The fish again completely lacked seasoning. The sauce smelled and tasted weird. We could barely eat.
Now comes the main annoyance- the price. Its an extremely expensive place for that kind of quality and quantity. Such a rip off!
I have rated it 1 to simply emphasize my point.
The music is often too loud for a conversation and doesn't go with the theme. Overall - Don't go unless you are in a situation like ours,

P.S. : Just one photo because the others were not worth it.

One of the best places in Kolkata for Thai and Japanese food. Simply loved the food and ambience. Was more than satisfied with the food and I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends. And I'm coming back for sure
They serve some awesome spare ribs! The lamb in chilly plum sauce is melt in your mouth. As for the run of the mill fried rice, one of the tastiest ever!

Happened to be there by chance but the food just made our day. We ordered Malaysian prawns, Cucur Udang, and was surprised with the amazing blast of the flavours. Simply loved the dish. We also ordered konje krispy lamb, which was also very tasty and better than some of the well-known places in the city. Chendu Chicken (again an awesome preparation) and egg chicken for main course completed our menu. The staffs are also very polite and well behaved. In all it was a wonderful experience and we look forward to visit there again. Good job guys. Keep it up.

The staff were polite and cooperating. One needs to be very selective while ordering as some food items on the menu were indeed tasty but not all of them. Overall ambience, decor and pay off is good. Ideal for a family visit.

The dishes are good to the taste buds but extremely overpriced.
Quantity could be enhanced.
However, the Location, Service and Ambience are appreciable.

I had ordered for the chilli chicken dry with bone, it complements well with the drink. It was very tasty as they had prepared it from desi chicken.

we ended up at this place accidentally but were pleasantly surprised. there were people smiling to greet us at the entry and a well informed manager who had some good recommendations. Some items on the menu were quite interesting (chill orange gravy, chilli pineapple gravy etc) but we ended up settling for the regular thai curries to be safe . the portion sizes are good and I liked the presentation too. we enjoyed the food flavours , the beer and my favorite blackberry Breezer(which isn't easily available usually). It was nice of them to serve a generous portion of complimentary kimchi , spiced cucumber and another beer accompaniment. the mezannine floor is not very spacious but it's got a nice cosy bar feel to it. I do recommend this place if you're craving for good Asian food in the locality.

Do you love thai food? If yes, then this restaurant should be your “go to” place. The ambience is amazing, food is lip smacking, the waiters and the manager is soft spoken and last but not the least, the food is served really quick!

First time went there for lunch. We ordered chaincee. But food quality is not up to the mark for chaincee atlist. Service is good. Ambiance nice.

Nice cosy atmosphere. Ambience is great with friendly staffs. Food awesome. If you love Japanese food Sushi platter is a must try. Restaurant is little costly, but its worth it. Wonderful place for fine-dining.

This was my 4th visit to Fung Shway and I don’t think why I should give any review. Quality Asian food. The Owner Mr. Dilip is a real kind man. Hope to visit again.
Suryadeepto Sengupta
It's a very good restaurant. It has some of the best authentic Asian dishes, and that actually includes non Chinese Asian food. The portions are quite good. However I would not recommend the cocktails.
Aditya Chanda
Very nice ambiance with extremely courteous service. But above all the food is awesome . Korean lamb chops and dragonballs are a must try.should definitely try this restaurant if you like Asian food.

It’s a bit different with emphasis on Thai style... fish sauces are used extensively.
Slight disappointed when the food was returned twice as the fish was stinking... it must spent too many days subzero condition. A deep fried chicken too seemed to have given company to that fish in ice age. Overall other servings like sushi and rice covered up.
Nonetheless, Dilip and his team were gracious enough to replace any order that we didn’t like... full marks to these buddies, low on taste buds!!

I personally had a horrible experience when I once ordered home delivery I maybe it was a take many moons back.First of all,the menu was very confusing when it came to the name of the dishes with no proper description.Anyways, when the food finally arrived it was really bad in terms of taste and we couldn't make anything out of it.I will never really want to try this place again.

The Chinese cuisine is really good. However the ambience needs to be pepped up. The staff behaved nicely. The menu has good variety. A really enjoyable experience it was. The fish items here are really good.

This place is really good. It has a cozy atmosphere and a really cool ambience. Coming on the first note, the waiters and F&B personnels are really well behaved and versed in their communications. The food here is simply lip smacking goo. We ordered some Tai Pei Chicken, Mushroom and Cheese Dragonballs, Mixed Garlic Rice and the Kung Pao Chicken.
The Tai Pei was cooked with sheer perfection. The cheese blend of the Dragonballs was also quite good. The rice was al danté but the Kung Pao was so so...
From Average to High Priced this place is a good dig in.
The Darshan for the Dessert had this Pub Rice Vanilla Ice Cream which was simply splendid. It mesmerised me.
If you take my words for it... I would suggest you must visit this place at least once.
They also have a pretty decent collection of liquor.

I would have given a 5 * ... But am going with the 4 now, because of the slightly high pricing of liquor and the so so taste of Kung Pao...
Otherwise this place is Rocking.
This can be a decent option for people looking out for asian cuisine. Their teriyaki dish was superb. Loved it so much that got one parcelled as well. The window side tables give a nice view of the lake.

Place looks great. People are warm. And food one of a kind. One of the best places to eat out would be this. Excellent preparations and not one order leaves a regret. Fine dining at its best.

Location is Great...Ambience is good...Staffs are very decent...Manager is very well behaved..Quick Service...Food is OK...Overpriced(both drinks & foods)...
Acs Mini Bagaria Singhania
Nice ambience and proper authentic food.... But wallet parking service is useless as so many people from restaurant were waiting on road and the wallet table was so far and unaware about the cars searching for them.. that we parked the car on our own and then we realized that it was there.... Except this everything was just perfect.....

I dnt really think its reasonable enuff!

The earstwhile China Bowl now stands tall as Fung Shway...the Pan Asian restaurant in Kolkata's Southern district. Dilip Massey, the chef, has a reputation of his own when it comes to Thai cuisine. This place is just perfect when it comes to food. We tried their Crispy cottage cheese in thai style....stir fried asparagus to start with. Both dishes were fabulous. We had Pad Thai noodles, Masaman curry and Khao Phat rice. The taste and texture was too good. The portion size is good too. The nutty date was a nice desert to end with. The service is a bit laid back. The drinks were served very late and ice was asked for. There was a mismatch in cutlery as seen in my pictures attached. Desert spoons were missing too. The place deserves a full score for food alone but the service brings the average down. The management must address these small issues that lets the chef's performance stand diluted. Overall...a must try for the food alone!

This place is a gem. I paid a visit one Sunday, recommended by a food blogger friend of mine... and my oh my, what an experience it was!!! The table booking was a smooth affair, and the food was just out of the world! The Shrimp Laksa was an outstanding elixir of happiness... I haven't tasted a more delicious soup in my entire life! The Sake Maki was amazing as well, with perfectly pickled gingers and a spicy, hot Wasabee. The Nasi Goreng (on special request), too, was extraordinary, with the most delightful Lamb Rendang on the side (which undoubtedly was the hero of the evening!). We finished off our meal with a wonderful 'Sankaya' coconut-y custard dessert, with candied coconuts and a dollop of icecream on the top. It was a magical spread, I promise, and I am planning of paying another visit soon enough. Oh btw, the staff are very, very helpful, courteous and friendly, which is a cherry on the top!!! Highly recommended as let's face it, this is definitely one of the best Asian restaurants in town!!!

One of the finest Asian kitchen I explored in a long long time. The place had an exquisite and varied spread of menu to choose from. Had ordered Baki Prawns which had 5 large prawns placed in a stick and with a crunchy corn flakes batter with a dash of honey on top. Also ordered Lamb Chops in dark sauce with sesame seasoning. The meat was tender and melted in mouth. This place was a burst of flavors in your mouth.

We had been there during Durga puja last year!
The restaurant is exactly located in Southern Avenue. Very easy to identify. As it was Durga Puja time,so we had to wait a lot in the queue.
The ambience was good as well as the staffs..
But I think it's a bit expensive. That's the only thing which i didn't like about the Restaurant. The quantity of the food was not enough.
And also I wish the foods were tasty too..
It was my first time in Fung Shway and I guess it was the last time too.
But yeah guys, everyone has different taste so you should visit once and taste the foods, You may like it! ❤

Thank You :)

I had heard good things about this place and so was looking forward to having a nice family lunch. The decor is nice and they even have an elevator which was great for my grandma. The staff are courteous and helpful.
We ordered soup and butterfly prawns for starters. The soup had tofu, shitake mushrooms, and chicken and was definitely a winner. Their shredded lamb was good but a bit too thin compared to other places. Their Japanese noodle and rice options were slightly different from the chindian ones that calcutta is famous for, but were none the worse for it. The teriyaki bhetki, as strange as that may sound, was quite delicious. All in all, a good meal for a reasonable amount. Will come back again !
(Sorry for the lack of photos, but I was too busy eating.)
