I recently visited this place (Aaheli - The peerless inn) to witness their illish utsav.(@peerless_hotels_ltd)
Aaheli the bengali restaurant of the peerless inn, Kolkata is running a ilish utsav to celebrate the best of ilish preparation.
Before entering into this prestigious hotel, the staff will check your body temperature, sanitize your belongings and they will also check you via THe arogya setu app.
As being a non bengali i love illish so much that i can imagine how much you all bengalis will love this festival. Monsoon without illish is unimaginable.
Illish pulao(recommended)
The festival runs till 2nd October '20.

বাঙালি ভুরিভোজ manei Aaheli .
Pujor age kobji dubiye bangali khawar khete hole chotpot chole jan Peerless Inn er Aaheli te.
I recently visited my all time favourite place- Aaheli to witness their Ilish Utsav.
How safe is it to eat at Aaheli?
The staff is very well equipped to fight against the global pandemic.
As soon as you step into this property, the staff will check your body temperature , sanitize your belongings and thoroughly check you via the Arogya Setu Application.
That's not it, before entering the premises of the resturant you will again go through a sanitization process.
The tables are sanitized with utmost care .
With soft rabindra sangeet playing in the background ,you are sure to immerse yourself into the heavenly meal served here.
This time I was here with the "New Norms "to enjoy the delectable Hilsa platters prepared by chef.
Hilsa / Ilish has a very sacred place in the hearts of every bengali.
Monsoon without Ilish is unimaginable.
Due to the pandemic we all are tired of having the same old home-cooked food and so Aaheli ( one of the pioneer resturant serving Bengali cuisine ) is here with its Ilish Festival which is running till 2nd of October,2020 .
To start with ,we have our very own Ilish Bhaja with fresh red chillies ,served along with aromatic basmati rice and fish fried oil.
To tingle our taste buds we have the Ilish Pulao with generous chunks of Ilish . The smell was ambrosial .
Next in the menu we had the quintessential shorshe Ilish. The pungent mustard along with the tantalizing smell of Ilish made way for a heavenly combination which is my all time favourite. As per our traditional recipe we also had the Ilish Paturi. The fish is coated with mustard paste , covered in a Banana leaf and steamed . This hilsa fish recipe is known for it's awesomeness, always in high demand among Bengalis.

Apart from these common Hilsa preparations ,they have something really out of the box .
Giving a fusion touch the first in the list is Jholsano Ilish / Roasted Ilish . The fish is pre- marinated and cooked in slow temperature overnight to give that smoked flavour.
Roshun Narkol diye Bhapa Ilish - A traditional Bangladeshi preparation . A killer combination of garlic and Hilsa together. This will leave you speechless.A must try .
Anaroshi Ilish- Hilsa cooked with the sweet and tangy pineapple . The combination was definitely unique and really flavourful.
Next I tried my very favourite bengali recipe Potol er Dorma which was made with a twist.
Ilish Potol er Dorma, yes you heard me right .The traditional filling made out of prawns was replaced with Hilsa. To make your choices a bit more hard they also had the
Ranga Ilish. The Hilsa was cooked in aromatic spices and had a onion based gravy.

Embrace yourself with all this goodness.
Price for 2 people- 1600/-
Kick start the fest season with some mouth-watering delicacies .

Indulge into delectable preparation of Hilsa, at the Eeelish Utsav at Aaheli, The Peerless Inn.!

The fine arrival of Monsoon brings in a hush of joy for the farmers, and a sigh of relief for us, giving much respite from the scorching heat from the sun. This, accompanied with the seasonal delicacy, with the harvesting of the much famed Hilsa, or Eelish, as we popularly call in our colloquial language. A name, which has emotion and passion attached with it, is much sought after during this particular season of the year. While the debate still lingers between the qualitative superiority between Ganga Eelish and the Padma Eelish, it is the sheer love which we have for Hilsa remains uncontested.

Aaheli, the flagship Bengali restaurant of The Peerless Inn, Kolkata, has always been a huge proponent, when it comes to promoting Bengali cuisine all over Kolkata. The very first fine dining Bengali restaurant, Aaheli is running a very special ‘Eelish Utsav’ to celebrate the very best of Hilsa preparations, some old and traditional, very much within our grasp, while some from our very neighbouring country of Bangladesh, and then some with a subtle twist and turn, to give a new definition to the inhibited taste of Hilsa.

Expect the very acquainted Sorshe Eelish, which has Hilsa cooked in mustard gravy, where the pungency compliments the oily texture of the Hilsa, and then perhaps the presence of the slit green chili, helping you to spice the bite up, as you mix the gravy with tartness along with the hot steaming rice. The Aam Tel Eelish is one preparation, which has been in limelight since quite some time now. A preparation, which sees Hilsa cooked with pickled mango, where you get a mix of oily and tangy flavours, creates a ripple of flavour to overwhelm your tastebuds.

Choose between the quintessential Eelish er Paturi, which has Hilsa wrapped with banana leaf and then steamed, or the Roshun Narkol diye Bhapa Eelish, which has Hilsa steamed with garlic and coconut, a modern take on the Eelish er Paturi, with a completely different flavourtone which sees the predominance of garlic and the mild creamy coconut instead of the usual pungent mustard. Make your pick to opt for the Ranga Eelish, with its fiery red colour as it comes cooked in a bright onion gravy, or go for a sweeter undertone Anarasi Eelish, which has Hilsa cooked with pineapple.

A modern touch to the familiar recipes, make way for a barbecued Hilsa, or Jholsano Eelish, as it is named here, which sees Hilsa roasted and served with mustard, or indulge on another modern take of Eelish Potoler Dorma, which sees your very acquainted Potoler Dorma getting replaced from its cottage cheese or keema stuffing, with the delectable Hilsa filling, which has been simmered and cooked in onion gravy. Some hard choices to make, there isn’t probably a soul, who would wish to try all of these, so as not to deprive their tastebuds of something heavenly, and divine!

While you may always be at war, with what to pick, and what not to, my very favourite would be to experience the soulful combo of Eelish Pulao, which has the quintessential Pulao cooked with Hilsa chunks, and accompany the rice with the soulful Bhaja Eelish er Moja, the very popular and satisfying Hilsa preparation, which sees the fish being fried with the subtle tampering of selective spices, and then served alongwith the heavenly aromatic fried oil. While all the maincourse Eelish preparations would be accompanied with steamed rice, this is one combination which seems quite intriguing.

The festival runs till 2nd of October, 2020, and promises to bring happiness to the much gloomed tastebud of ours, which has so remained deprived of worldly pleasures due to the ongoing pandemic, and then a much relieved scene at the prestigious hotel and the concerned restaurant, where strict checks are done, to adhere to hygiene and sanitizations, starting from screening of the Aarogya Setu application, to temperature checks, sanitizers, and disinfectant spray of all your belongings, as you enter inside the hotel premises.

A meal at India’s first Bengali fine dining restaurant was a long awaited moment. But the Aaheli bhuribhoj was worth it. A perfect combination of age old favorites like paturi, kosha and malai curry with rare treats like mochar ghonto, begun bhaja. And a rare variety of creamy mishti doi. Aaheli...it was a meal that will remain unforgettable!

Phoolka Loochi (fried bread) with Kasha Mangsho (thick succulent Mutton gravy) was excellent. Macher Chop is banana blossoms croquettes which were crispy and delicious. Thaalis were filling, veg and nonveg. Aam porar Sorbot was refreshing. Quite a pricey, fine dining option. Ample parking. Part of Peerless Inn. Courteous and informative Staff.

This branch of Aajeli is hidden inside the Peerless hotel, so the google maps might misroute one. Albeit expensive, the quality of the food is great and the service top-notch. We had one person from USA in our group they took special care of her ensuring minimal spices, offering spoon etc. whenever required. The dhokar dalna was awesome as well as the daab chingri, special mention should be towards rui maach er patishapta.

I think it is 3 star hotel. It is situated in Dharmatala. The location of this hotel is very good but the parking area is as not big as we expect. The restaurant is (Aheli) too much expensive but dishes are very good . The Bengali cuisine is overall good in side. The area is well connected with kolkata.

Based on our friend's recommendation, we visited this place and had Chitol Macher Muithha with pulao rice and Loochi Mangso. Manager Sanjeev is very helpful and patiently told us the food to try. We finished with delicious Mishti Doi. Food is great. This is a must visit place if you want to try nice Bengali food. I heard that their Bengali thaali is excellent. But we missed that.

I had heard about Aheli in many food blogs and shows, and had planned to visit when traveling to Kolkata. It was a very positive experience. We went there as a large group and so we booked ahead. When we reached, our table was ready. Service was excellent and special mention to Bipasha from restaurant staff, for great hospitality and being very patient with us while we figured out our orders. My attraction was Aheli's thali and that's what most of us ended up ordering. The spread was elaborate as I expected. I can't say that every single item on the plate was extraordinary but a few most definitely were. My favourite was the Dhokar Dalna from the vegetarian items and the Ilish from the non-vegetarian items. The sweet was also really good. A suggestion that's purely my opinion: The thalis can be shareable. Extra luchi and rice can be made chargeable if sharing. Being more price effective may be able to draw more volumes while reducing waste. Overall I highly recommend Aheli and will surely visit again when I am in town next.
