Review Dogra Dhaba - Leh

Easy 4. Looks like a cafe. We went on a day where the whole of Ladakh was practicing sacred day without any meat. But the veg dishes were really good. Great atmosphere and lies on the Leh market main road.

The Dogra Dhaba has made considerable new investments in its brand and it shows. The Dogra in its old haunt next to GESMO was overshadowed by the more famous restaurant brand. It was a modest eatery. The new Dogra is dhaba in name only, at distinctly non-dhaba prices. The interiors are pleasant and beautifully designed in blue and white. The seating is on two floors. A smaller indoor seating on the ground floor with low tables and cushions on low platforms by big windows for Indian families who feel comfortable sitting cross-legged, and more formal table and chair seating. A beautiful iron staircase leads up to the second floor dining area - an indoor area with beautiful light streaming in through large glass windows, and an outdoor terrace area with faux grass and pretty beige faux cane chairs and tables. I preferred the latter, as the day was pleasant and the sun wasn't out. I felt like having rajmah and roti, and what better place than the Dogra, which specializes in North Indian food. The presentation of the food is impressive; the staff well trained, they even wear a uniform; the crockery is new and minimalist. The rajmah came in a beautiful white, ceramic bucket, with an accompaniment of sliced onion and green chilly. The roti came in a small bread basket lined with tin foil. That was the most impressive part. The rajmah was dhaba-style thick and spicy, but lacking the tanginess of tomatoes, which have become expensive of late. The beans, however, were of indistinct quality. Needless to say, I've had better rajmah elsewhere. It was good to see several customers, in this rather lean tourist season in Leh. One wishes the best for this gutsy eatery.

One of the best Biryani's I ever had outside Hyderabad, being a Hyderabadi I can rate 4/5, but any one else can rate is 5/5. The best Biryani in Leh, Ladakh. If you are a Hyderabadi, just tell them less Masala / spicy .

This is a good Dhaba for a quick bite. Serves both Veg and Non-Veg for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Place is quite clean and place for upto 30 guests. Quality of food is very good. Food is served hot and fresh. Waiters are very courteous and attentive. Not so easily visible by the roadside though.
