Whenever we step out of our homes in craving for some good food but return home disappointed because we could not find any. We know that feeling and mind you, that feeling suck, period. However, we have just found the right place for you to stay away from that sucky feeling, The Charminar hotel. Yes, you read it right, Lucknow has its own version of it.
We tried the Mutton Korma, Mutton Is(h)tu at Charminar, located just opposite Novelty Cinema in Lalbagh. Both the dishes smelt super good with the aroma of Mughlai food spread in the whole restaurant. Mutton Is(h)tu was rightly cooked, especially the tender meat which was full of flavors. Special mention to the lip-smacking gravy of Is(h)tu which had the right amount of sweetness, not too overpowering and it goes best with their exclusive khameeri (rogani)roti. However, the Mutton Qorma was not even close to Is(h)tu but worth trying. Even though the mutton was soft and succulent, the gravy wasn't too flavourful.
The dishes were priced very reasonably keeping in mind the not so attractive ambiance. For both the dishes, you get a half portion and a full portion. The half portion for both dishes was priced at ₹140, subsequently, the full portion was priced at ₹280. The hygiene conditions were decent and the staff were also very courteous and on their feet all the time.
You should give the Charminar Hotel, one of the most untapped places of Lucknow a go if you want to want to have a spoonful of Mughlai cuisine. It is truly a one-stop-shop for all the non-veg lovers who want to have a good meaty experience in the City of Lucknow. The only drawback according to us was that only cash payment was accepted.

It is one of my favorite place which serves authentic mughlai and awadhi cuisines at the nominal prices. The food is really really very yummy so I recommend you all if you are a non veg lover and wanna eat some mughlai cuisines. Hop in to this place once and I guarantee you will not regret. The ambience of this place is up to the mark as this is mughlai theme based.The service was very good. So overall experience was very nice.

We've been coming to Hotel Charminar for about 4 years now, apologies for reviewing so late, we get busy with the food and forget to click photos every time. The restaurant is one of the oldest in Lucknow when it comes to lip-smacking Mughlai cuisine. Before I get to the food, I'd like to mention that the food tastes best when eaten at the restaurant. Please keep that in mind, it goes for nearly all the old and authentic Mughlai outlets of Lucknow.
First item you must try is the Mutton Stew. I'm a huge a fan of this item and every time I come back to Lucknow, this is the first thing I eat at Charminar. The stew is different from European stew of course. It has a thick gravy that carries a sweet onion overtone. The meat is soft and cooked to perfection. This goes best with Rumali Roti or the in-house special Tandoori Roti.
Next comes the Mutton Biryani. It is a fortunate anomaly that Biryani across Lucknow packs a distinct flavor. Right from Idreesh to Lalla to Tunday to Sakhawat. At Charminar, the rice holds onto its flavor and the red succulent meat pieces perfectly compliment the rice. At times I like to eat the Biryani Rice only with the Stew or any other curry item. Their Biryani is HUGELY underrated.
In addition to this, I'd strongly recommend trying the Boti Kebab which goes best with Rumali. Again the flavor and style of preparation wins it for me. Also, the keema and the Achari Ghosht (too flavorsome for me) is a favorite of a lot of people. So do try the Achari Ghosht if you like tangy meat. It's definitely worth a try.
These are the items I personally recommend. Overall the menu packs a variety of Mughali cuisine items to choose from.
If you're tired of visiting the same outlets in Lucknow, give Charminar a try, you will not be disappointed. The seating area can easily fit around 50 people and there's enough parking for two-wheelers. Four-wheelers can park around the area (Novelty cinema).
The restaurant is clean and hygienic. They have liquid soap dispenser in the washroom. The reason I mention this little bit is that it makes a huge difference. You go to some of the bigger names in Lucknow like Tunday/Idrees and they don't even have proper facilities for you to wash their hands. Charminar is a good dining place for friends and family. Staff is polite and alert, please tip if you can.
Keep up the good work Hotel Charminar and please don't lose quality due to increase in footfall.

I like the food here..they cook amazing mutton stew..and even there chicken masala is also taste nice ...rest I didn't tried but you may and explore by yourself...😘

Family restaurant and good mughlai food
A foodie journey is incomplete wiout being at charminar, typical ol style curries and bheja fry awaits for you here. If you're a nonveg lover you have to try their food. I did not happen to like their Biriyani much but I went there for mutton chaap and bheja fry, wasn't available at the first visit but tasted it on the second. The ambiance isn't very pleasing but the food covers it up.
Authentic, tasty .
My favorite is boti kebab , it's good, shami kebabs are also nice. Mutton korma is the special. It tastes so awesome.
Pricing is also resonable.

when you see Charminar's biryani-"Muskuraiye aap Lucknow me hai". It is one of the oldest restaurants in Lucknow serving Mughlai cuisenes. my favorite is the tandoori chicken & mutton biryani.
My all time favorite here is the mutton stew. One must try this cuisine here, as it is simply one of the best in city! Service is pretty quick and staff is polite.
Skipped the much hyped Al Zaiqa where I was a regular. For this place to try out. And I am glad that I did food is true Mughlai and lip smacking n polite service

each and everytime i order its taste the best specially the paratha are as smooth as silk even after getting cold they do not become chewy

Mutton stew at Hotel Charminar tastes havenly. For all spicy food lovers, Khade masale waala Mutton Stew is a must try. Also, biryani here too is delicious.
Bheja Fry is best of a kind . Do try their Mutton stu wid mutton biryani delicious and their Tandoori roti made up of milk is so yummy must try.

I don't understand why is their stew so famous..i mean it is all paani paani and hardly any boti...the biryani is fine..But the best dish that they have is Their Masala Chicken...it really is delicious..the way you experience the sharp flavours...it is exhilarating!So yes this much for them...and yes...the roasted chicken is good as well..much better than Tunday's who seldom give the chicken perfectly roasted...either they burn it a little or it feels uncooked at other times..
Charminar has lost its worth among other Mughlai restaurants opening up. Still for a change of taste one must try the shami kabab, mutton biryani and achari ghost. The service is a bit slow and food is sometimes cold.
This place is located near novelty cinema lalbagh. I ordered chicken masala and rumali roti. Service was good and they also served with that. It is a cheap place to have non-veg. It is a must try place for non-veg lovers.
Visited this place after hearing about it on Facebook. Lucky area it's located in didn't had rush the day I decided to visit. Rogani nan are the best. It's kind of crossover between naan and kulcha. With that ordered mutton Biryani, boti kabab and keema. All of the things were really yummy. Mutton was juicy and rightly cooked. Very soft not chewy at all. Only thing I didn't liked a lot was keema, it had a slight sour flavour to it. Don't know how to explain kind of like kaleji like flavour which I don't like much. But overall had a really great experience. Quantity was more than sufficient for two people to eat in this much order.
Eat only mutton stew, archari ghost and biryani over here otherwise rest of the stuff us not up to the mark and is bound to disappoint anyone. The place gets crowded at night due to the presence of a cinema hall right in front of it. The ambience is decent.
Mutton stew is a classic masterpiece of this place, galavat kabab was good. Place is messy and cluttery. But if you ever drop by definitely try Mutton Stew it's amazing fabulous.
Its mutton dishes are good..the mutton stew was classic few years back, though it's taste has fallen to some levels now but it's still good..Boti kebab is a must try..biryani is average..

This place would have been rated a 4.5/5 anywhere else... Only because of the Rick heritage of Lucknow cuisine do I sheepishly rate them as 3.5. Outstanding for its boti-kebabs and biryani right in the heart of the city this place much deserves it rightful place under the sun.

I am a bit confused with Mutton Stew. It tastes same like the Qaurma.
Biryani is average , the only thing you can try here is brain curry if it's available. Tandoori roti is one of the best in lucknow . Rest of the items like korma or achari gosht are palatable but nothing exceptional.
5/5 because of the fantastic taste that is delivered in each of the delicacies. I have been here several times and tried several dishes. All of them are delicious. Especially Achari Gosht is one to look out for. The interiors are like a normal restaurant and the waiters aren't chivalrous but it still works for me due to its prowess in cooking.
This was very nice to have mutton paya nihari and mutton biryani at this hotel.
Best Mughalai cuisine of the Lucknow. I am coming to this restaurant more than 50 years ago. Best mutton stew of the India. Rest foods are excellent in taste. 5 star to this restaurant.

Amazing experience, would definitely visit again for sure, the mutton curry was good but the naan and roasted chicken was something you won't find easily even in Lucknow.
This used to be a great place for keema kaleji and khamiri roti. It's alright and should be tried.
It's normally very crowded so be ready to wait during rush hours. Parking is always an issue as it's quite tough to find a spot nearby. Food is good.
We had Chicken Tika, Kabaab and Biryani and all were so Tasty. biryani may be a bit Dry but they Give Salan if you need. Mostly Occupied but no waiting.
Delicious food, punctual waiters, had mutton achari and chicken tikka here along with parantha and tanduri roti and had biryani too. Food was exceptionally good , so was the service. Rates are genuine , taste is fantastic of everything. Will surely visit again!
