Maharaja Restaurant is one of the must visit family restaurants in Mangalore. They offer Amazing coastal dishes. This place offers outdoor as well as AC section. Place gets pretty crowded during weekends.. Coming to the food, Squid Ghee roast is really good.. they offer lot of seafood specialities. Tried the Chicken Tawa Fry and Raja Special as well which was pretty average.. The rates are reasonable. Amazing vibes.

Anjal ghee roast and neer dosa is a good combination to have here. Ghee roast smells amazing and it isn't spicy. Good quality food.

King fish tawa fry was the top dish among the sea food dishes here... Loved it... Good spot to booze with family as well as friends...

The food is great. Especially sea food. The serving sizes are large which needs to be considered while ordering. They do have fresh fish as expected in Mangalore and are of the most popular joints here. The seating is good and spacious. It's does get crowded during peak hours. Parking is available in the basement

This place is on a lot of must visit restaurants in Mangalore. Mangalore being the second largest city after Bangalore does offer a lot of good restaurants and eateries to try out. And yes,, this is one of them. The place is situated right on the road in a complex building and can be easily spotted. The food is great. Not something out of the world but yeah better than what good food is. So yeah no complaints there. I ordered Kori Roti and Mint Lemon Juice. The Kori Roti was awesome. The ambiance is just like any other family restaurant but yeah with a bit of comfort. The only thing which I didn't like was the service initially. I was waiting for 15 mins until the waiter came and took my order. Although after that their service was also on point. All in all a good place to go spend some time with your family and friends and enjoy some good food.

Famous for ghee-roasted dishes. Do try unique double or triple sundae ice cream. It’s made 8 to 12 scoops of different ice creams + dry fruits + fruits. Super yummy… each sundae serves 6 people

Dropped in for lunch on a rainy weekend and absolutely demolished everything they put in front of us in record time. Flavours were on point, portions were generous enough for us to take a bit back home and fight over it later, staff were a tad curt but promptly handled requests and the ambience out on the rooftop was sublime. Definitely recommending it to anyone within shouting range. Pricey but yummy, try this one out with a bunch of friends. So that you can taste-test a wide variety of dishes with minimal guilt. Happy eating.
#ChickenGheeRoastFTW
Any ghee roast that you order from here will definitely not disappoint you ! It's one of a kind. For dining also, the staff is very friendly and will generally ask your preference if you seem confused what dish to order. Not many do that. Slightly overpriced but worth the money.

Maharaja serves the quintessential Mangalorean Chicken Gheeroast. I've had gheeroast elsewhere, but they pale in comparison to Maharaja's. It's hands down, the best. My only issue is the pricing and the portion size so offered for their sky high prices. The food is lovely, agreed.

Ordered chicken sukka... When delivered shocked to see that the content was not even half of the container... Really bad of this restaurant...

It would definitely not be fair on my part to judge a restaurant based on a dish that was served within hours of its opening for business for the day. In fact, it would be unfair to judge a restaurant by a single dish alone. However, I stand by my rating because in this case the one dish I am judging Maharaja Restaurant by is the one dish that it is most recommended for. And no eatery should serve a sub-par version of the dish that defines its identity.

Ordered paneer ghee roast through Zomato delivery, paid Rs.250 for the same. The quantity was half of what is normally delivered via Zomato and it was made of oil with little or no ghee. Felt cheated !

This was my first time ordering from Maharaja. Had ordered Bangude Alle piyav because I miss eating this at my late paternal grandmother's home. Oh my God!! Such brilliant authentic taste and amazing fresh flavor! Amazing you guys. Maintain the taste and quality of such authentic recipes. I'll definitely try more in the days to come.

My favourite restaurant in Mangalore!! Its been years since I have been visiting Maharaja restaurant. The chicken biryani here is the most Yummiest I have ever had. Best seafood! Try prawns ghee roast, fish masala fry, neer dosa, chicken kundapuri. Definitely a must try place.

Visited Mangalore after many years and then ended up in this place on recommendation. Totally loved this place and every time I visit Mangalore I make sure to have lunch at Maharaja

Must have here - Crab ghee roast , chicken ghee roast, Masala Fry fish , Tava Fry fish.

They have a separate smoking and non smoking zone.

Service - 5/5
Ambiance - 4/5

Purpose of visit - First time visited this restaurant in 2011 and after that while visiting Mangalore after 8 long years, I made a point to visit it once again due to amazing experience last time.

Location - The restaurant is located near Jyoti talkies, probably 2 min walk from there.

Restaurant details - The restaurant earlier (2011) had bright lighting whereas now they changed it and made it dim lighting. The staff is as courteous as before, also the ambience seems to have changed a bit.

Order details -
1) Crab tandoori - This was something my mom wanted to try, but not to my surprise there was hardly any meat in it. This is due to the small size of the crab used. The claws were hard to break and they didn't even have the crab mallet I suppose that's what it's called. Wish they can improve on this experience. (3/5)

2) Alle- Piyao Fish curry - We opted for pomfret fish and Alle - Piyao means ' Ginger and Onion'. Damn! This was real tasty, even though I wish I had more but the stomach was full. Certainly the best thing on the plate that day. (5/5)

3) Fresh lime soda - Honestly nothing much to say here, apart from the taste was Refreshing enough.

Conclusion - The satisfaction of having authentic Mangalorian cuisine is achieved here and obviously it's a go to restaurant for me whenever I visit this town.

Staff -5/5
Ambience -3/5
Service -3.5/5
Value for money -4/5
Food-4/5

Good ambience and North indian restaurant in Mangalore...
However service is quite slow if it is crowded...
Manglorian cuisine is also available...
Overall a good restaurant....
Parking a car is an issue...
Back in the day, Used to one of the better than good fine dine restaurants in Mangalore, the food is delicious and the quality and quantity of the same is very good 👍🏻
The staff is very professional and really good.
Needs a make over, the ambience can be so much better than the exciting one.
Overall, for the food a recommended restaurant.
Vinod
Brilliant food. The ambiance is a throwback to the 80s, zero watt bulbs and red/maroon everywhere. We had the crab ghee roast, which was outstanding, the dim lights made it a little difficult. The chicken thali was amazing and complete VFM. Kori roti was superb and quantity was good as well. Neer dosa and prawns phanaupkari was the last dish we ordered and was really delicious.
Warrants a trip very soon. The only bummer was a clamped car to receive us post the meal. There are no no parking signs , so be careful lest you will be the target of some over zealous mobile clamping traffic vans.
Adarsh Kumar Singh
Just an okay-okay place kind of overhyped. There are places better than them.Maybe the alcohol makes their food taste better,I don't know.
Not so good not so bad😒
Puja Deb
Expected a lot from this place that they make the best ghee roast in town as per blogs and youtube videos. But may be it was a bad day. The masala tasted a bit burnt and chicken was chewy..so really didnt like it. Another dish marwai sukka (green masala) was good in taste but meat was really low in quantity. Some clams were devoid of any meat only masala was there. Neer dosa was okay. Fresh lime soda was the only saving grace. They also serve liquor. No disappointment regarding service. Below average experience.
Arijit Das
We visited Maharaja restaurant after seeing lot of good reviews on the place. But frankly we were disappointed. We ordered their signature chicken ghee roast and marwai sukka.
The ghee roast was little bitter in taste and the chicken pieces were hard, fibrous and not so fresh.
Marwai sukka was good taste wise but meat was very very less.. rather many clamps didn't have any meat at all.
Not a great experience for such a legendary place.
Shrishti Prakash
Chicken ghee roast and chicken tawa fry are great dishes. If you belong to North India, you could savour it with tava roti, would be a heavenly combo. Tried the chicken biryani as well but didn’t meet the expectations. The ambience is quite old school but resonates well with the localities, I guess.

Maharaja restaurant is known for serving typical South Indian delicacies. Tried Chicken urval a mangalorean delicacy, rich in taste. This dish from Maharaja has all the flavours needed to make u keep drooling over it 🤤🤤 n the chicken manchow soup was spot on 😋 a must visit place in mangalore ❤️

Came to this place since I heard the food is good. But sorry to say really disappointed with the quantity and also the quality. Had ordered squid masala fry, anjal fry (surmai). The squid we stale, masala wasn't upto the mark. Besides quantity was really bad. To makes things worse the time taken to bring the dishes took over 40 mins( not over exaggerating). Looking at this I ordered chicken thali. Since thali is usually got much faster in all restaurants. But the thali also took 45 mins. Upon askin the stewed after 30 mins he says 'thali got over'. If so was the case it was his duty to inform before hand so that something else could be ordered. Hence service was horrible. Don't even think of coming here. My thali has finally arrived, been writing the review while waiting for my thali. Hope taste is upto the mark.

A place to visit either with family or friends.the ac room provides a good family atmosphere for a meal while the non ac balcony can be enjoyed with a group of friends.food here is pretty good and can be enjoyed with drinks of your choice.

Popular for authentic Mangalorian Cuisine. Serves the best of sea food delicacies.
Also chicken ghee roast and uruval are worth a try.
They have outdoor and indoor seating available. Good for family gatherings.

Amazing food! Must try their ghee roast. Decent Thalis for a quick lunch. Ambience can be better. Good service and food overall. If you are looking for authentic mangalorean food, it's a must visit

This place is known for its best-served chicken ghee roast. I love to have it with neer dose every time I visit this place. Giving 3 stars only because the place is bit expensive for the quantity of food that they serve.
Mahesh Kurse
Poor service. Many lunch items were not there even at 2.15pm. It seems they make fixed quantity. We saw good reviews and drew more than 15kms only to find the items we were looking for were not there.

Whenever I travel with my family to mangalore, I always make sure that visit to Maharaja is a must. They serve authentic mangalorian food with average pricing.

Ghee roast is a must try in this place. Neer dosa with paneer ghee roast is simply a superb combination. Decent ambience, quality of food is great. A must visit restaurant when in Mangalore.

A friend suggested me this place for having Kori Roti. I had ordered Kori Roti and Shell Fish Fry. This was for the first time I was trying shell fish so I was bit wary about how it would taste, but I thoroughly enjoyed having it ..cooked with lots of coconut paste n spices. Spices were well balanced n it tasted really nice. The Kori Roti was good ..roti was perfectly crispy but my complaint was chicken .it was very basic..I had higher expectations else would have rated this place 4. Ambiance and service both are good.

Best place to have Mangalorian food.located in the heart of the city which makes access to it very easy.Best quality of service,a good place to hang out with family and friends

One of the best places in town for Chicken ghee roast.
Also Paneer ghee roast for vegetarians. A must try if you visit this place.
Also the sea food delecacies are good over here.

What I thought-----
If you are visiting Mangalore this is a must visit place.

This is known for the authenticity of food. Their Thalis have best taste and pricing. This is our choice everytime we plan for a family lunch. They also serve drinks to add to the reasons to visit the place.

Seafood is a delight. You need to try the fish thali. One fried fish, one fish curry , dry fish kirmuri, daal, crab masala fry , buttermilk etc are some item that you can find in the thali just for 100 bucks...

What I got----
Loose motion.. I guess it was crab from the thali

A place filled with love...... amazing customer service and even great ambience....the food comes really quick one after the other ....still remember the taste of manchow soup....great place to go with family.....

This restaurant serves the best chicken gheeroast in mangalore. Their Seafood delicacies especially fish masala fry are awesome. Fish thali served here is excellent n economical too. It’s a must try place when in mangalore

To be polite, When I saw that the quantity of chicken ghee roast full (boneless) was less I asked the delivery boy to call the hotel. The hotel responded saying no chance that the quantity is less. He was speaking as if I was cheating . It was 10 pm and I the tone offended me a lot. I decided to drive down to the restaurant and ask them if I was wrong. The guy on the phone agreed the volume was less. Then another person looking a manager says this is full and it will have 10 pieces. I was so surprised and I am posting these photos so that those who prefer quantity look out for other restaurants in Mangalore. I have ordered from various places like kudla and palkhi. Never came across such less quantity.
Ajay Raj Achary
Few of my friends from Mangalore had referred this place. The Chicken Ghee Roast with Neer Dosa was just awesome. Also tried Prawns Ghee Roast which was really good.
Sudarshan Shetty
Did not like at all. Quantity wise is not upto the mark with other popular restaurant in Mangalore. Ghee roast chicken except for masala, chicken pieces was rubbery.
Shreyas S
Nice hotel.. especially paneer ghee roast is a must try for veggie people.. even veg biryani was very tasty. But they use coconut oil for some dishes, which may not be liked by some people.. overall a good hotel.
Jyothsna.ramdas
The too much hyped Chicken Ghee Roast from Maharaja. I found it very general and nothing extraordinary about it. It tasted good and just like how a Ghee Roast would taste. However the quantity was too less for the price charged!
V.C. Shanbhogue
Ordered Mushroom Urval. It was good but expensive. Ordered a veg thali and a fish thali. All items in both thalis are not even warm. The service Manager was informed. He did not believe us. Never order a Thali here again. Even the curries are average in taste.
Chethan Salian
We ordered paneer lausni looking at the image in App, But what we got was entirely different. We expected it to be dry and spicy but it was gravy and little sweetish flavour.

Shittest restaurant with worst service. They gave a genuine try to do everything that can be done to ruin your restaurant experience. For starters, serving non-veg thali to a vegetarian and still having the audacity to argue and not be apologetic. This is by far the worst experience that one can have.

We had a Thanksgiving party. They don't have buffet system but for us they had organized. From starters to main course each and every items were just great. The staffs are very friendly. My personal favorite was Dal tadka and Gobi Manchurian.

I loved the gobi 65 here like I haven't loved it anywhere else. The caramel custard had a very authentic taste. The paneer ghee roast was brilliant. The ambience however needs a bit of a spruce.

They serve few authentic Mangalore style non veg items - kori rotti, chicken ghee roast, puli munchi etc. Vegetarian options of similar preparations include paneer ghee roast, which I have tried.. It was really delicious.. Had been here for a dinner.. They have open space for smoking / drinking..

Food is definitely really good no doubt but their staff behaves pathetically. There is zero customer service. Waiters don't even have the basic etiquette of talking to the customer and are very rude. They will irritate you so much that unfortunately you won't be able to enjoy food. Horrible experience in short.

Wide range of sea foods available under single roof. A very famous for their Ghee roast and other authentic delicacies. Price is bit high , but worth paying single penny. Maharaja restaurant requires no introduction. Maharaja restaurant opened up way back in 2002 and still manages to attract customers not only in Mangalore but from all over the country.
The chicken ghee roast is a signature dish here and everybody might have had it at least once.
So this time I made up my mind to try on something else, something different from their menu and my experience was simply exhilarating.

We tried the following dishes:
CRISPY VEG: Chunks of Cauliflower, Babycorn, Capsicum, potato, onion deep fried in a medium spicy batter and garnished with spring onion. I always love crispy veg everywhere I eat and this one also didn't disappoint me. I'd give it a 4/5.

PRAWNS TAWA FRY: More like Prawns Ghee Roast. Loads of ghee masala mixed with some fresh Prawns. You can skip this dish. 2.5/5.

SQUID KOLIWADA: This dish is off the menu but it is worth a try. Squid rings deep fried in Konkani-Malwani masala batter served with green chutney. This dish will go good with any hard drinks. Highly recommended and a very famous dish. 5/5.

ANJAL RAVA FRY: Thin slice of Anjal deep fried in rawa batter until super crisp. Anjal being one of my favorite fishes, I absolutely loved this dish. Though I expected it to be a bit more spicy. 4.5/5

FISH THALI: We had the bangude fish thali an I must tell you, this thali costs just 100Rs and offers food worth almost double its value. A huge pile of rice (boiled/steam) accompanied with bangude curry, a small part of bangude fish fry, shell fish curry, a veg curry, dried prawns, rasam and buttermilk. This is a 'not to miss' dish. 5/5.

I had a great experience here overall. I'll definitely be looking forward to visit here very soon.

We visit this place each time we are in mangalore. Probably mentioned in almost every review, this place serves the best ghee roast. Went with very high expectations but was disappointed . Had the chicken ghee roast but it wasn't the best we had in mangalore. Ordered hot and sour chicken soup, veg dried rice and chilly fish manchurian which was all just OK. Ambience was OK with prompt service. Did not meet up to hype.

A restaurant with a great quality is fortunately turning out to be very poor. After today's experience with a heavy heart I have to say GOOD BYE MAHARAJA.

The restaurant name itself makes you feel royal. For authentic mangalorean food this is the place you got to go to. Maintaining the old traditional recipes with perfect blend of spices, they offer food that makes your taste buds happy and soul satisfied. Must try dishes are Chicken Ghee Roast or Mushroom Ghee Roast with Neer Dosa.

Terrible hospitality. They might be a famous restaurant cause of the years the have been in mangalore but this doesn't give the staff or anyone else to be impolite to their customers. The owner has no sense of behavior. The restaurant doesn't own up to their mistakes and disrespect you completely by literally making noise to your ear drums ( in specific, the owner). Instead of accepting their short comings as a team, they treat you like dirt which is just unacceptable. Keep your ghee roast to yourself and learn to speak decently to your customers. Screaming at your customers is not going to sort anything out, atleast learn to be civil or human. Totally disappointed with their service. From the staff to their manager to their ridiculous owner who doesn't even know how to speak to people. Disgusted with this attitude. Years of reputation is the reason they take advantage of their customers, thinking they can never make a mistake. Own up to the problems you make as a team and then you'll do much better as a restaurant and in life as well. I wish there was a rating lesser than 1. This would match up to the treatment given by the owner ( the lady)definitely. In the name of prestige the restaurant has from multiple years, you cannot disregard your short comings as restaurant.
Raviprasad Pai
Both veg & non veg food was good, its value for money. Chicken thali was very good in terms of quality & quantity.

Alambe (seasonal) & crab Ghee roast are highly recommended.
