Review Hotel Machali - Mangalore

Shubham Kumar
This is a must visit place for any seafood lover. It's a simple canteen style arrangement with super tasty food served at great speed..I was a novice to south Indian fish curries, but the server helped me and my family make the appropriate choice..Recommend the crab ghee roast and pomfret..There is restaurant parking and guards to help manage the traffic. May get crowded on weekends.

This is a heavenly spot for people who love sea food. Even as a not big fan of fishes this place is exceptional. The fish curry meals alone itself is too good. Pair it with Prawns ghee roadt, squid or Kingfish tawa fry. You will love them all. End it with a Taza and you will be relaxed. The taste will never go out of your mind even after you leave this spot.

At Machlai, the seafood steals the show, and the ghee roast adds a delectable twist. My lunch experience was a symphony of flavors. The ambiance resonates with warmth, creating a perfect setting. Each dish showcased culinary expertise, making it a haven for seafood lovers. The attention to detail, from presentation to taste, was commendable. Machlai has secured its spot as a go-to for an exceptional dining experience.

This is listed among must eat places in Mangalore so we checked it out. So much Worth It for sure! We totally loved the experience! Great food, service and spirit with which they serve. It is a very busy space, we were lucky to get seated quickly when we arrived - but we saw long queues of people waiting on chairs to get a turn to be seated when space becomes available. Food is so good, of course freshly made and so yummy. We had Fish Curry Meal And then had one king fish fry and Squids Ghee Roast. Super yummy! Prices reasonable, very neat and clean, non-air conditioned space where people quickly eat their meals and move on. Washrooms were so busy, perhaps one each for male and female so no wonder given the head count of those who eat here, they were busy. Hand wash too can have a queue! Strongly recommended place

Tasty food and good service. Prices are affordable. Eating pomfret was like eating butter. You have to wait a bit to get a dining for yourself.

Good place to visit and try sumptuous Coastal Karnataka Cuisine. A must-go place for many people who visit Mangaluru, this place is known for serving delicious seafood in particular. Food was fresh as well as good and the service was apt. Preferable to reach the venue on time since the place gets occupied by customers quite rapidly.

Sea food lovers should definitely try this place out. We went for the lunch service, was quite crowded at noon but didn't have to wait too long for the table. Helpful staff and super fast service. There are some options for vegetarians as well but primarily it is a sea food restaurant. The prices are quite reasonable too. Nothing much to say about the ambiance and decor. All in all, a good experience.

Lots of sea food options and few chicken items. In case you would visit this, know that mutton is not available in the menu. Food is good. The staff is courteous and service is super-fast. The place is usually crowded and the ambience is very basic. Ample parking space for cars is available opposite to the restaurant.

Certified by a bong to be an excellent spot for fish 🐟 and seafood 🦞. We tried Anjal tawa fry, prawn ghee roast and fish thali! The flavors were very unique and tasty. Must try in Mangalore. Would request them to add an AC dining area

Excellent place for sea food. The prawns & squid deep fry were fried to perfection. Prawns hinga udda was excellent and pomfret tawa fry too was very tasty. The crab ghee roast looked very tempting but we were too full. Don’t waste your time on the thalis go early and dig into the fish fries 😋😋

Visited with family in the evening. Food: Tasted Prawns fry, Prawns Ghee Roast, Seer Fish Tava Fry, Pomfret Tava fry and Mackerel Ale Piyav curry. What stood out the most was Prawns Fry. Out of the world. I have tasted better ghee roast, tava fry and fish curry. All the fishes were fresh, no second thought there. Service: Excellent. Got the table as soon as we went in. The waiter was jovial and took the orders neatly. Items were on the table within 5-7 minutes. Atmosphere: Noisy and crowded but that is how a busy modest indian restaurant is. Can work on improving the ambience.

The king fish ghee roast. Ufff!!! It's just amazing. Tried the chicken biryani too. It's unique and tasty. These two will definitely be my go to 😍😍 Weekends are super Crowded. Plan your visit beforehand.

Little bit crowded and wait time is 10-20mins based on the time you visit. Must tries are prawn ghee roast and fish fries. I found biriyani rice is better in bangalore nati style hotels. Bit on the higher side for prices if we compare sea food in beach cities.

I am big fan of fish food . One thing I should write here that Though this is a fish restaurant but there is no smell of fish at all which indicates that they are using all the time fresh and clean fishes . I have never eaten this kind of tasty fish dishes in any other fish restaurants.

Fish meals is a must try here... It was quite crowded, visit early in the afternoon to get tables quickly. Excellent taste 😋. Fish meals was around ₹65. Totally worth it...it's not an overrated place. This place was an absolute favourite during my Mangalore visit. The place is usually crowded and we had to wait for sometime to get a seat. Their food is reasonably priced and the service is fast. The quantity is as per the price and also the quality is awesome. The seating space is decent and one can come here with family and friends to grab food and leave with a heavy tummy. A definite go to place for Non Veg and Sea food lovers. Recommended - Neer Dosa, Ghee Roast Chicken and Prawn and Fish Fry

I have been there for dinner and it's the same branch which is there is udupi. We ordered Pomfret tava Fry and prawns fry and fish thali .Food taste is not that great compared to udupi branch.

Well definetely worth a visit to all the sea food lovers. Although it's priced a bit on the higher side, the quality pretty much makes up for it. Love the Mackerel masala fry and the prawns ghee roast, a must try. Overall a good sea food restaurant

I don’t have a single clue as to why this place is so popular, which in turn makes this review of mine rather useless because they aren’t really going to care about one person’s opinion. Having said that however, I’m compelled to say how horrible the food actually is, everything is deep fried and smothered in spices and ghee, made me nauseated to the point that I had to throw everything into the garbage. Possibly the worst food in mangalore. But who cares, people will continue to flock. Good for this lucky lucky place.

Machali is located behind hotel Ocean Pearl, Kodailbail. This restaurant is definitely one of the top seafood restaurants in Mangalore. It's better to head there before lunch time to avoid crowd, specially on weekends. We had their signature boneless crab ghee roast, squid ghee roast and prawns biryani. I really loved that crab ghee roast from the bottom of my heart, it's so flavorful. Usually in ghee roast ghee dominates the flavour, but here you can taste the fresh crab meat. Prawns biryani was mild yet mind blowingly flavorful. Squid ghee roast was great, squid was perfectly cooked. Ambience was basic and service was quick.

Excellent taste, not only the sea food but also the rice, sambhar and rasam. A must visit if your are in or are visiting Mangalore.

Quick Review : An amazing no-nonsense place to have sea-food. A must visit if you in Mangalore.

Detailed Review:

Location: Not too sure about that, its just that i was visiting Mangalore for a friend's wedding and decided to check out this place. Thankfully, it was a few minutes walk away from my hotel.

Ambiance : Nothing special about it, looks like a mess setup but attracts a huge crowd and it will be a little difficult to get seated. The place was very crowded as it was a weekend and tables a little cramped.

Food: Food was absolutely off the charts as the fish thalis were out of the world. We also ordered Ghee fry fish roast and the Ghee fry Prawn roast along with fish thalis and some Neer dosas for me. The Ghee fry roast items are a definite must here.

Overall, a good place to have sea food, i felt that the Ghee fry roast items were a little expensive but it was worth it.

Every time u visit mangalore I visit this place. It's heaven for sea food lovers..
Ordered fish meal with boiled rice.. Kane rawa fry..promfret tawa fry.. prawn ghee roast and beer dosa..
Everything was just amazing.. the rawa fry was just enough Crisp and the fish was cooked to perfection unlike many other places where they overcook it making it dry . Here however all the fish dishes were so soft and melt in the mouth.. also the mangalore style curry is just amazing and does justice to mangalore cuisine..
The only downside is that the place is more often than not over crowded and we have to share the table with other customers..but won't mind it as the food is just so good !

Finally, I got a chance to visit this Famous Seafood restaurant in Mangalore. As usual, this place is crowded, we waited 5-10min and got a seat outside. This restaurant is small n they got limited parking space.

We selected fish meals as our main dish, and for side, we've ordered Squid Ghee Roast, Prawn Ghee Roast, Crab Ghee Roast, and Fish Fry. In Fish thali, you'll get one cup of rice, Pickle, Dry Prawn chutney, small pappad, and one fish gravy. For rice, they'll serve sambar or rasam. Except Rasam Fish thali tasted bland. Fish fry, prawn and squid tasted yummy.

Ambiance 3/5Food: 3.5/5
Service: 3/5
Vfm: 4/5

The joy of giving a 5 star rating ....

I am sure there are other Fish speciality restaurants in Mangalore but MACHALI stands out and is just awesome.

We had Crab Ghee Roast, Squid Ghee Roast, Mackeral Masala, one more Fish Masala - Neyee Meenu, Billinji Rawa Fry and Neer Dosa,

Every dish was amazing and the 2 that stood out were Crab Ghee Roast and Squid Ghee Roast. Squid Ghee Roast was the winner - it was just mind blowing.

My wife finally converted to eating Crab and I should thank Machali for that.

The most amazing thing was that all the dishes are economically priced, our total bill was just 1200 bucks- unbelievable...!!!

We were there in Mangalore just for a day and HAD to have Fish, my friend Ajaz suggested we go there and we were not at all disappointed.

Will now have to wait for our next trip to Mangalore to again go to Machali...

One of the best thali's I have had and it's just for Rs 57. The dal is super tasty. We also ordered king fish ghee roast and squid ghee roast which was just wow. The ghee flavour was so distinct and delicious.

I had my first experience in Mumbai, but in Mangalore, the experience is quite different. A very good service and good quality with more varieties is the highlight here.

the word fish ia probably derived from this place. The food is so good. Its a must go to for anyone who goes to Mangalore.

Very good food. Worth the wait of 10 mins(always crowded). I never miss to visit Machali when I visit home!! Awesome homely food.

We order from Machali very often, fish dishes are great but chicken is just ok. But this time did not enjoy Chicken Ghee Roast at all as the chicken was very chewy.

No words to describe. Paradise for seafood lovers. Do not miss this place while visiting Mangalore. Don't even think twice.

A very busy place for all the right reasons. Its a must stop if you are a seafood fan but equally good for a vegetarian. Paneer ghee roast with Veg meals was amazing at this place

Visited Machali after a long time and it's one of those must visit places in Mangalore if you are a sea food lover and a foodie! I would suggest ordering fish thali and as accompaniments a ghee roast and tawa fry. Options for ghee roast could be Squid, prawns, crabs, and for tawa fry could be Seer (Anjal), Mackerel (bangude) etc. This is a popular location so can be busy but fast service and not a great place in terms of ambience . Over all 5star from me and will always love visiting this place!

Just got rotten chicken in chicken ghee roast. Never expected this from a hotel with such a reputation.

This restaurant fulfilled my craving for sea food which I had since a long time..
They serve fresh n tasty sea food dishes 🦀🐟
The fish kabab was the star of the menu...
We loved it
Great experience 👍 outside Mumbai 😉

I had ordered 4 plates of squid ghee roast based on the ratings I saw in ZOMATO. On the positive side the taste of the masala was reasonably good. But the squid in itself was frozen and not fresh. Did not expect this from a hotel of such a reputation. What a disgrace and cheap mentality especially considering the price on menu..
Avoid this restaurant ..,,

I have been wanting to visit this place from a very long time, and I m so glad I was finally here last week.
The place was crazy crowded and busy, but this did not stop the staff from being kind and helpful. They were extremely warm and patient, considering the amount of people that were pouring in.
We were served complimentary buttermilk which was the perfect way to begin our meal, cool and refreshing.
We tried a variety of food from here.
Squid Masala fry- the bestest and our favorite!
Prawns ghee roast- soft prawns cooked so well in their authentic ghee roast masala
Pomfret fry- a decent one this!
Kingfish tawa fry- this was mind blowing, loved it. The fish was fresh and cooked in perfect marination
Fish curry meals- perfection!

Overall, it was an awesome experience at Machali. Would love to go back here in the future.
Priya
The best crab ghee roast and squid ghee roast in mangalore . Because of the crowd and limited seating we always pack the crab to take home and enjoy.
The Nang tawa fry is excellent .
Biriyani is good
Chicken ghee roast was not something I would order again. It lacked flavour - just bland boiled pieces of chicken in the tasty gravy.
The crispy fried small sardines are good .
The staff is very friendly , but we always feel rushed and try to finish the food and get out as there are many people waiting to be seated . To have a relaxed lunch you have to go late around 2:45 pm but then some of the items would be sold out.

The best place to experience coastal cuisine!!

I can never forget this restaurant, as I tried my first prawns dish and it was amazing 😋. Non the less, quick service and simple. I tried prawns ghee roast, chicken ghee roast with thali. Let’s say, one of the major place to visit if you’re planning to mangaluru.

Happened to visit mangalore to attend a wedding, on recommendation of many people we decided to have meal at this restaurant called Machali and it turned to be one of the best seafood meal.

As mangalore is said to be city of seafood and this place kept the word.

All dishes served were excellent, tasty and perfectly done only my vegetarian friend could not enjoy it I guess he was at wrong place.

We reached there at 6:55pm as restaurant opens for dinner at 7:00 pm. We were surprised to see number of people waiting there we finished our meal by 7:45 and when we stepped out restaurant was packed and people were waiting for tables outside the restaurant, not sure about reservation process though.

Overall very nice place a memorable meal and recommended to all seafoos lovers

Pathetic service for people ordered parcel and waiting for food outside for hours. MUST STOP PARCELS

A hearty lunch, managalorian way! Ghee roat of prawn, king fish and chicken fry were at its best. The fish curry meal supports the sides. No flashy ambience as the concentration is on good food. Made my day!

5 star rating for this place is an understatement. 🤤🤤🤤 I wish there was a special button to express that “the food served here is an absolute piece of art”. All the dishes were perfect and I have never had any seafood (Indian) tastier than this. Also, special mention of the staffs who tirelessly feed you and exceed your expectation by their super fast service.

Excellent value for money. Will definitely visit Machali again, whenever I come back to Mangalore.

P.S: this place deserves a 💯 on 5. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

If you haven’t eaten here, you haven’t experienced life’s true joy. I attained Nirvana having the food here. I cannot point at any particular dish, and say something was better than the other. I walked out of this place happier and content, and with a halo.

Food was too good here, we enjoyed the authentic sea food and chicken items. A must visit place if you are in Mangalore.

Ghee roast is a must try... Their veg sabzi was too. Good too.. Prompt service and staff is very helpful for ordering especially for 1st timers... Must visit..

I was recommended by multiple cabbies and localites to try out the delicious seafood ghee roasts here! And even before reaching mangalore, I started to eye Machali.
I ordered squid and prawns ghee roasts with a lot of enthusiasm and I couldn't have been any happier with my decisions. The spices were so well cooked and sunk into the seafood, the ghee only helped adjust and enhance the flavours! Can't wait to be back and try out more mangaloren food.
The mangaloren style chicken curry goes well with neer dosa as well.

On our first day in manglore, we decided to have lunch here. It was one of the best decisions. The food here is just breathtaking. We had the king fish and pomfret fry here. The fried fish were extremely soft and you could get this yummy coconut masala taste in every bite. Besides, we also had the fish thali, which consisted of unlimited rice and fish curry. It also had a vegetable and fryums. Fast serve and pocket friendly.

The restaurant is a sick place to have sea food , they only look into people who dine in and for those who order the anjal or prawns.. the daily catch of seafood is not there for preparation,

We ordered for mackerel and it stinks very badly .. not cooked.. masala is raw .. the fush was not even marinated and even after tge bite we stil get to have thr rawness flavour in the food...

Do not disappoint your customers with quality of food . Better my advice for restaurant is that they stop delivering food in weekends if they too busy and pre occupied with in house dinners .

Over all my sunday lunch is a worst thing

Visit Mangalore, and the foodies around you will drown you in “seafood” shouts beforehand. And for good reason! The fish is fresh from the sea next door, and the cuisine itself stands apart! And rarely does it get as good representation on the plate than in Machili Restaurant. first sight, may look like any other restaurant around town. In fact, it gives

Dear machali team! Please teach your waiters some manners on how to behave with customers. I had got a anjal masala fry?l, it was half done and when I showed them , they dint even have the curtesy to check and find out what the problem is and they were extremely arrogant.
And , this is not the first time I’m facing this. Had an issue with online order too. Just because customers keep coming , you cannot always serve your food like that! Mind it.
If this is the case , you are gonna lose up. Kindly teach them to address the customers.

MACHILI!!!
I may remember this restaurant for my life time!!!
Considering restaurant size and seating capacity, they plan really well and no doubt they provide 100% the best local cuisine.. It would be better if I keep silent about the food variety what they serve...
