Shangai Club one of the luxury Chinese restaurant in ITC Grand Central, Mumbai. Its is famous for its own Chinese food from Shanghai Region. It has a very beautiful ambience which actually gives a feel of Chinese place atmosphere. Its a very good place for small groups as well as a perfect family dinning too. The Signature dish over here is Huoyan Homgzunyu. One of the famous dessert over here is Haiyan Tangse Pudding and Sticky Date and Walnut Pudding.

One of the best Chinese food experiences I have had so far. Great ambience, architecture of the place that adds to the experience. Very amicable, attentive stuff and prompt service. All these topped up with awesome food. Huoyan Hongzunyu - Chef's special whole crispy snapper with sweet and sour sauce is something you should try out.

Restaurant Review: The New Menu at Shanghai Club, ITC Grand Central, Mumbai<br/><br/>We have always loved ITC’s restaurants, but this was my first time at Shanghai Club. It was a rainy Saturday afternoon in Mumbai, and all we craved for is authentic Chinese fare. Yes, as far as Chinese food is concerned, there are many options in Mumbai, but after tasting the food at Shanghai Club in ITC Grand Central, I can tell you that this Chinese restaurant is easily among the best. The revamped Chinese menu is planned in a very thoughtful way, where the menu is divided region-wise. The menu is classified into Sichuan, Hunan, Beijing, Shanghai and Canton cuisines, with a host of delectable dishes under each region. Wooing Shanghai Club’s patrons with a plethora of Chinese dishes, the Chinese Masterchef Yuanzhong Jia gives his homegrown cuisine a new height with his precision and panache. He explains that mostly people assume that Sichuan cuisine is the spiciest, but it is the Hunan cuisine which is even hotter than Sichuan. The food at Shanghai Club is straightforward and generous. We love it. In fact, Shanghai Club is our new Chinese favourite. For us, it isn’t the typical Indo-Chinese, but the real Chinese food that leaves a mark.<br/><br/>With over 24 years’ experience in China and other countries, Chef Jia has been serving of ITC Grand Central for over five years now. Chef Jia specialises in various cuisines of China. Chef Sameer Gupta, the Junior Sous Chef at Shanghai Club, compliments Chef Jia perfectly. Chef Sameer is thoroughly knowledgeable and confident as far as Chinese cuisine is concerned and explains us about the nuances of each dish, along with its province of origin. A Graduate from the Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad, he has worked with prominent hospitality brands.<br/><br/>Sipping a relaxing cup of Jasmine tea, we sat by the window and glanced at the menu. Each dish is described well and there is something for every palate. The first dish to appear on the table is Xihu Tang. It is a vegetable broth from the Zhejiang province of China. Humble flavours of silken tofu come together in a light soup with vegetables. <br/><br/>Most dishes are generously portioned. The highlight of our meal was the Lobster. Jiaoyan Longxia is a sophisticated dish of plump lobster chunks batter-fried and served in a grand manner with Sichuan peppers. The dish is perfect for two people and thankfully, isn’t quite spicy. While you are at Seafood, do check out ITC’s “Choose Wisely” programme, for which the chef will happily give you more details there.<br/><br/>The Hejiao Jiding, a chicken-based dish from Beijing, is a flavourful stir-fry spiked with freshly crushed black peppers served in a sauce that just makes the dish so moreish.<br/><br/>The Cola Ji is rather a funny name. But the dish is outstanding in terms of flavour. Served in a claypot, succulent pieces of chicken are braised with mushrooms in a finger-licking Barbeque Sauce. This Cantonese dish is seriously class apart.<br/><br/>The main-course dishes came with a Shanghai-style Stir-Fried Flat Rice Noodles with Pokchoi and Vegetables and Chef Jia’s special Basil Fried Rice. We loved the Hongsaho Yu, one of the dishes from Beijing. Hongsaho Yu is a dish in which pieces of red snapper are slightly batter-fried (to retain shape) and served in a sauce of black mushrooms and Beijing-style chilli sauce. The aroma and the flavour profile of black mushrooms and bamboo shoots elevates the dish for sure.<br/><br/>A vegetarian Cantonese masterpiece, the Xing Xing Doufu, is just a flavour bomb! The dish has a cashew and tofu stuffing, served in a chef-secret Cantonese sauce. There are many interesting vegetarian dishes that are worth trying. For instance, the Huoguo Shisu is Chinese stir-fried greens with pickled chillies or the Ganbian Helandou is Yacai and snow beans tossed in chillies and garlic.<br/><br/>We also tried a sliced-pork dish, that is made on request, as we love pork. The dish was oozing with the flavour of great-quality pork and the sauce had an all-round flavour that lingered in the mouth happily. <br/><br/>The Chocolate Five Spice Cake is very well made. We never had Chinese five spice paired with chocolate, and this is a welcome change. What a great way to end a Chinese meal! <br/><br/>At Shanghai Club, they are not trying to reinvent the wheel, but the kind of oriental dishes that these amazing chefs churn up, smells of tradition and tastes at its best. This is the place to drag your friends to! It is the best place to go with four to six people or even a bigger gang and order different kinds of dishes from each province, so that one gets to eat a portion of everything. We were in a large group and went for the fixed menu which included a lot. We started off with Chicken Manchow which was spicy and nice. Then we were served Dumplings (Chickena and Veg), water chestnuts, crispy lamb. The dumplings and crispy lamb are amazing! The rest of the starters were good too. For mains, we had Chicken Kung Pao, assorted greens and veg garlic rice. The dessert for the highlight of the entire meal - Date almond tart, ice cream and fried honey chips, cheesecake and chocolate brownie.<br/><br/>Overall, the food, ambience and service is really good. It's a proper fine dining restaurant. Another great thing is the unlimited supply of jasmine tea which ensures your food goes down well and keeps you eating for hours. This place is certainly worth it and I'd recommend it to everyone.

The Shanghai Club is a lovely Chinese restaurant at ITC. These have been hosting excellent Chinese food festival since 5 months where they explored Sichuan, Hunana, Cantonese, Shanghai Cuisine and now the last stop is Beijing.<br/><br/>This Festival will will go on for this month.<br/>They have two categories, superior and first-class.. four and a three course meal.<br/><br/>The food was delicious.<br/>Loved the stirfried green beans. Garlicy and perfectly done.<br/><br/>One of the best eggplant dish I've had. Perfectly done eggplants.<br/><br/>Stirfried tofu .. delicious again.<br/><br/>Barbeque sauce noodles and Vegetable fried rice. This restaurant was very nice. The food came at a reasonable time. The ambience was very nice. I came here with family and it was an enjoyable experience. A dish to definitely try is the Beijing Duck. The prices were also reasonable here. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

The Shanghai club was a family favourite aided in no small measure by the erstwhile ITC culinary program that halved the bill for 2 diners. A recent visit was quite disappointing - the menu does not seem to have kept up with the times. The portion sizes and quality of produce are a distinct advantage at ITC but has not been capitalized on in terms of flavours. The prawn suimai we started the proceedings with was too chewy. The pork with Chinese barbecue sauce was disappointing with none of the depth of flavour you would expect. Excellent pork that seemed to have been stir fried with a ton of bell peppers and some herb which gave a Mediterranean twist to the meat! <br/><br/>We made the mistake of ordering a pork main course as well hoping for a better rendition that leveraged the meat quality. Guess what? More bell peppers accompanied the pork with a few slivers of black fungus in a gravy that had no standout notes! The Yangchow mixed fried rice we ordered as the accompanying staple was serviceable with excellent quality of ham and prawns but nothing in the taste to distinguish it. The complimentary birthday cake went some way towards mollifying our dissatisfaction but cast a question mark over subsequent visits that would not have the benefit of this freebie! We were the only diners that afternoon - that is in itself quite a telling fact!

Had a craving for some good oriental food. Decided to goto Shanghai Club and I am glad I did. Barring that this is a five star place which tends to be a little heavy on the pocket, you really cant go wrong with anything here. The food was limp smackimgly awesome. A beautiful fine dinning place to visit.<br/>The place is well designed and gives you a cozy feeling. Had gone for dinner with my wife and had ordered the Chinese chilly butter soup which is delicious and it’s the Chef’s concoction. However, your time and resources are still limited and precious so it literally pays to know which festivals and places to attend and which to skip.<br/><br/>I usually share my recommendations about festivals on my Instagram these days since it connects faster to an audience who may not have time to read a post like this. However, I want to chronicle my experience regarding the Paper Pot festival menu at the ITC Grand Central over here. I want this memory to remain in the written universe.<br/><br/>SHANGHAI CLUB is known for its authentic Chinese food and its dishes are designed by ITC's very own Chef Jia who hails from China. The paper pot festival was his idea and he had to import the paper pots and ingredients straight from China .<br/><br/>Food served in Paper pots is a rare occurrence anywhere in the world, let alone in India. Food is usually cooked and served in Paper pots called as Washi - The paper is both fire proof and water proof. You could boil food inside it over high heat and the paper won't catch fire. Although, the restaurant did not cook the food in paper pots in this case, the food was served in paper pots with a flame underneath it to keep it warm.<br/><br/>This was a first time in my life, hence it had to written.<br/><br/>Shanghai club offers an ambiance that seems like a perfect mix of class and luxury. Its good for the sophisticated white collared folks who prefer a noise free rich environment. And its good for the Tourist and food lover types who love a bit of Asian blended into their surroundings. After all, the ambiance does help you in enjoying your food more. <br/><br/>Like a good prologue to a rich novel, White Jasmine tea serves as a good starter to a wonderful Chinese dinner experience.<br/><br/>Lets get down to the Pots I sampled<br/>==========================<br/>1] The CHEF's SPECIAL CHILI BEAN PORK was served in a silver colored paper pot. The paper's color was purely aesthetic. It was the chef's choice to differentiate meat based dishes from the vegetarian ones.<br/><br/>The best of the three pot based dishes, the flavor was the king here. Soft flavorful pieces of pork with comforting sauces and veggies tossed in, this dish was quite delightful.<br/><br/>It is important to note that Chinese cuisine has a lot of Pork based dishes. A lot of Asian restaurants discard Pork based dishes from their menus thereby sacrificing cuisine authenticity. Shanghai club thankfully remains truly Chinese.<br/><br/>2] The PRAWNS IN SPECIAL CHILI SOYA were the seafood lover's delight. The prawns had a rich flavor, texture and the sauces worked well in synergy. Although, I did feel that this dish would have looked better in a white pot.<br/><br/>3] The CHINESE GREENS WITH CHILI GARLIC SOYA was a simple but flavorful vegetarian dish. Served in a white paper pot as part of the chef's convention - this dish truly exemplified the paper pot festival. As evident from my picture, the paper is both fire and wetness proof. Plus it does not contain any harmful chemicals or toxins that would affect the food.<br/><br/>ITC Grand Central is not as flashy with promoting its events as some other five star properties which call a legion of Instagrammers, journalists and socialites to promote their events. However, the food quality and the experience were no lesser than any other. Shanghai Club - ITC Parel. Amazing place with a fantastic decor. Warm, inviting, this is so ITC. Smiles the moment you enter. My second visit to this place. This time it is the PAPER POT Festival which started on 19th Jan and it's on till the end of this month. Guess it's the first time in India that this concept is carried out. <br/><br/>Paper Pot - One can Find Kaminabe (paper pot) restaurant joints in Japan and China. Heard ITC has got this Paper from China. However its origin is Korea. The Pots are made out of paper called WASHI -durable against water and heat. An amazing Concept. Proud of ITC to try something new at Shanghai Club.<br/><br/>Since this is a festival the menu is very limited. 2 Vegetarain dishes and 6 non Veg dishes. Since this is a la carte dinner we asked for tasting portions of 2 veg and 2 non veg dishes. Chef JIA who hails from China has curated this menu and has given us some Authentic Chinese cuisine.<br/><br/>Started off with some wine and beer - small portion of Broccoli stir fried with some carrots/garlic/Onions. Overall very subtle in taste and went well with the wine. Non Veg it was a small portion of Prawns in chilli sauce. Tasted lovely.<br/><br/>Coming to the Mains and the Festival food:<br/><br/>------------------------------------------------<br/>ZHIGUO DOUFU - subtle in taste. Lovely texture. This is all about Diced Silken Tofu in some Chinese Yellow pickle sauce. This was the first paper Pot dish I had tasted. Served Piping Hot. Lovely texture. Spring onion. A slight hint of pepper. Went well with Sticky rice. In fact all the dishes go well with Rice.<br/><br/>ZHIGUO XIA - Prawns at their best. When it comes to authenticity, this is one dish which needs to be tried. No rocket science. Tossed In special Chilli Soya sauce. Soft and yum. Balance perfect. Nothing overpowering. Loved it.<br/><br/>ZHIGUO SHISHU - this had the same sauce as the Non veg prawns. Green Vegetables. Broccoli/Bell pepper/Pok Choy some garlic/beans. Overall lovely. Served Hot on the Paper Pot.<br/><br/>ZHIGUO JISI - Nailed. Star dish. This is authenticity. Fantastic balance of flavours. Chef's signature dish. His special Mix bean sauce. Subtle in taste. Shredded chicken with carrots/chillies/onions and mix bean sauce. Went well with the rice. Loved the texture. Must try.<br/><br/>Dessert - Berry Sorbet - natural. No Sugar no cream. Had a sweet tangy taste. Honey and Date Cake with Ice cream. Loved the Texture. This came with chocolate sauce. Melt in the mouth. Lovely.<br/><br/>Overall experience - loved it. Something innovative/creative and Chef Jia has got it perfect. Not a single flaw. Go for this festival. Worth. Recommended.

This restaurant is the epitome for the word random. It is a herculean task to find the restaurant in the complex structural design of the hotel in which it lies. It is just randomly juxtaposed with their signature indian restaurant and you have to guesstimate where shanghai club begins and k and k ends.<br/>Cut to the chase, the decor is as random as it gets and supremely depressing. We were the only diners at the joint. Two disinterested servers stood there as if they were given a punishment posting. We ordered for lemon coriander soup and the manchow soup. Both were equally terrible and subsequently returned. Randomly a bowl of complimentary ginger peanuts were kept on our table. They tasted ghastly.<br/>The appetizers recommended were the black pepper chicken and the shrimp singapore style. Both were random pieces of meat tossed with whatever the chef felt like tossing it with. The shrimp was so tiny i had to pick it up with a spoon !. <br/>Mains we sat through were the yuxiang jisi and the sweet and sour fish. By then i knew why we were the only patrons at the restaurant. <br/>All in all if i had to summarise i would say this is an overpriced establishment and i personally cannot fathom a reason why any one would eat here, and you probably felt like beating people working in the kitchen with a Club...hence the name shanghai CLUB.<br/><br/>P.S. While walking out of the restaurant,a pretty hostess offered us some scrumptious paan from their indian restaurant. The highlight of the evening and hence the additional .5.

Part of a special invite ITC dinner evening after drinks were served at the Dublin Bar (read review separately under the Dublin Bar).<br/><br/>The appetisers and main course had similar elements, both had exotic vegetables and garlic base. I did not know why this was so, I ended up eating two similar dishes. My wife had the chicken crispy appetiser which was good, I had the water chestnut with vegetables in garlic stir fry which was very similar again to the main course served! The prawns main course was the only saving grace served with rice. <br/><br/>The noodles were well done, but nothing else was great to report or take your breath away. This is what you expect from an ITC. The menu was not curated well for a fixed dinner and the dishes selected were a letdown. The only available dessert (out of two) was a disaster, photo attached. Even the other option was not that great. Service is top notch, but if ITC wants us to deduct points and go for such curated dinners again, they better give more options and more exotic dishes that pushes us to try new things. <br/><br/>ITC must make this experience worth the travel and deduction of points for customers. The first half of the evening at Dublin was decent, good wine brilliant snacks (the dips) but the second half needs a big improvement in curation of the dishes.

Loved the ambiance and food both. We had arranged business celebration dinner for a small group and they managed it very well. Service was really nice and very courteous staff. However i find it lil so for every dish they were taking sometime but food was great.<br/><br/>As they claim all their spices comes from China and chef is Chinese too so do not expect Indian style spice if you like authentic Chinese then this is the place for you <br/><br/>we had ordered  veg & non veg both however  I will talk about veg food as i am veggie :)<br/><br/>Crispy sweetcorn kennels with onions and chilies - nice and perfect combination of spice and corn <br/>Crispy mix vegetables yuxiang sauce - sauce was amazing <br/>Veg. Soup - normal nothing great but not bad too ;)<br/>Mapu tofu ( stir fried tofu in spicy chili bean sauce) - this was best in the lot you can enjoy fresh tofu <br/>Mix vegetables Kung pao sauce - very nice with lotus root it was too good <br/>Chili garlic mix vegetables fried rice - nice <br/>Stir fried Chinese hakka noodles with shredded vegetables - good <br/>Desert - see the picture and guess ;)<br/><br/>Overall good fine dine experience

This place serves pure authentic Chinese, unlike other restaurants, which add the Indian mix and call it Chinese.<br/>With mild Asian music, and mesmerizing Chinese clay pots all over the place. You will just fall in love with this place.<br/>We went on a weekday, yet the service was a bit slow.<br/>But the food compensates. <br/>Worth a try, avoid weekends. :)<br/>

Just when I was in the acceptance stage of my grief over the Mango season, 2017 coming to an end, Shanghai Club (ITC Grand Central) has managed to pull me out of this sadness that I was beginning to accept. How? Well, they have come up with an extremely special Mango inspired menu at their Chinese specialty restaurant and my experience here was as always, brilliant!

I visited the restaurant with friends and family on Sunday and to my surprise the restaurant was empty and we were the only guests. We chose buffet and from there our discomfort started as in the non-veg menus we saw most of the items as veg. We then ordered buffet for 6 and also 2 non veg starters from a la carte menu . The food quality was bad from all points like the non-veg was not fresh, taste was not up to the mark for most of the item's. I have tried other restaurants at ITC grand central which are very good and we had similar expectations in mind but it all went in vain and I will personally not recommend it to people.

I love, love, love this place. I am not someone who is fond of chinese food at all, but I ended up going here on a client dinner, and boy, I loved the food. I want to keep going back to the place. <br/>Their chinese chili pepper soup is the shiz! Must,must have. The dimsums are great (we tried the chicken and prawn variants - lovely!)<br/>We had a mixed vegetables starter as well - it was really nice, the flavours were just right. <br/>The prawn starter was good. <br/>For main course, we had mapu tofu, rice, and singapore noodles. (I don't remember the exact fancy names as appearing on the menu, but you can pretty much figure it out). Everything was super. <br/>Coming to the dessert, that's a step ahead again! We had the cheesecake and the almond tart. Oh gosh, it was lovely. <br/>And alongside, we were having chinese tea throughout the meal and also to end the meal. It was soothing and refreshing. <br/>All in all, a great place to come to, foodwise. It's insider ITC so ofcourse the ambience is nice as well. <br/>What I really like about this place is how the food is beautifully flavoured and you can actually overeat without really feeling too full, as can be the case with certain other chinese restaurants which put too much oil or butter or ghee in their dishes, and making it Indian / Punjabi chinese. These guys dont do that. So one ends up really satisfied with the meal at the end of it. :)<br/>

Now when one typically thinks of ITC one thinks of the most authentic and delicious Indian food, but then this one just a tad different and built especially for the Indian pallete is this PAN Asian option that serves some extremely good looking and also refreshing food <br/>Starts with staters, goes through options for soups and I would definitely suggest to try various curries with rice here <br/>Deserts are not as interesting!

Discovered this place by chance. And it was the most amazing experience we've had. <br/><br/>We asked for the speciality here and were advised for chilli butter soup. This is an amazing preparation. <br/><br/>Next was garlic prawn. I swear I have never had this size of prawn in my entire life. And the preparation was again fabulous. <br/><br/>By then we were already full and decided to skip the main course. We asked for their dessert speciality and we waited for the surprise. <br/><br/>Chef Shrey Sood made his appearance and chatted with us while our dessert was being prepared. We found Shrey extremely passionate about his work and he shared his experience of buying his fish at wee hours in the morning. <br/><br/>The molten caramel with ice cream made its appearance and we digged into it. HEAVEN!!! <br/><br/>I am surely coming again to have a long chat with Chef Sood and try some soft shell crabs + squids as he suggested.

I visited this dining house weeks ago, but due to a heavy monsoon workload, I've been rather preoccupied. This review is bound to seem evanescent, and consequently possess potential to mislead. Having a issued a warning, I shall now describe my experience. It was elegant and classy. Definitely not the penultimate restaurant of such stature and cuisine, but a delight.<br/><br/>Service: As is seen with all luxury dining restaurants, top notch service presents itself almost as a prerogative. Every concern of mine was willfully addressed. The only problem I actually encountered, was constantly having to struggle to locate a waiter for a serving of water. Minor flaw.<br/><br/>Ambience & Décor: The path one treads to arrive here is cumbersome and unnecessarily long, alluding to seemingly flawed architecture. The lobby, a restaurant, another restaurant and the shopping plaza. But with what they've been given, they've gone all out. Oriental theme is exhibited throughout the restaurant via colours. Lovely. The choice of music is incompatible. Again, being nitpicky.<br/><br/>Food: Some peanuts fried with a jaggery coating along with KHIMCHI at the beginning as brilliant and addictive. VEGETABLE CALIFORNIA ROLL. Absolutely delicious. Well made sushi. Seafood<br/>SEAFOOD CALIFORNIA ROLL. Same positives apply and well cooked crab sticks. Great. STEAMED CHICKEN DUMPLINGS. The covering was a bit thick for my liking, however it had a gorgeous overall taste. VEG DUMPLINGS. They were decent. Not as good as the others.<br/><br/>HOT AND SOUR SOUP. Really spicy, nice addition of button mushrooms. Quite delicious. TOM YAM KHAI SOUP. Tons of tofu, in a soup that I can only describe as a minor Miso flavour. Not quite as spicy or good as the other. <br/><br/>GREEN THAI CURRY and CHICKEN RED THAI CURRY. I hate most Thai curries due to its strong coconut flavour, and sadly the same applied here. FISH AND VEGETABLES IN A CHILI BEAN SAUCE. The fish was glorious. The gravy was delectable. Loved it. MIXED VEGETABLES KUNG BAO SAUCE. An enthralling sweetness hid beneath the strong and rich flavour of this gravy, the vegetables were perfect. Yet another great dish.<br/><br/>CHINESE STYLE STIR FRIED NOODLES. They didn't need a gravy. They had a great taste on their own. I loved it. The vegetables were omnipresent on a minute scale. And that's something I loved about it. STEAMED RICE. Rice is universal, however its form of preparation varies. And they perfected it. As seen in the Orient, it's sticky and a little chewy. Great! <br/><br/>A TOFU CHEESECAKE WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM AND SAGO. Overall it'd be underwhelming. Intricate and complex, but not quite delicious. A complimentary ASSORTMENT OF ICE CREAM. Flavours being Dark Chocolate, Vanilla and Almond Praline. The foremost and last were gorgeous, the other was normal.<br/><br/>Overall I am glad that I tried out this restaurant but it is definitely not the best in its class. However I do recommend it because it does provide an amazing experience along with delicious food that one will surely enjoy. Try it out.

One of most disgusting dining experience I had ever been throughout till date. Visited Shanghai Club under Citi Bank Gourmet Flavors on Tuesday for dinner for 4 people. Under Gourmet Flavors you are given set menu from which u need to select one appetizer, one main and one dessert. <br/><br/><br/>Apart from the inferior treatment I received from the staff in terms of attentiveness and response, I had to witness the rude attitude of the Chef.<br/><br/><br/>One of us had ordered Garlic Rice (the menu had selection of Burnt Garlic Rice or Steam Rice).But she was served Steam Rice by mistake. When we informed the server, he went back to the kitchen and returned saying that it is Garlic rice only. I expected servers in 5 Stars to have certain intellect to visually differentiate between “Garlic Rice” and “Steam rice”. But he completely lack that level of intellect and he refuse to accept that what he had served was not Garlic Rice. It was a portion of Rice without one tiny piece of Garlic in it and he kept insisting that it was Garlic Rice. After again arguing with him he went back in the kitchen and finally accepted that few orders were erroneously mixed up. This whole process took around 20 min (for him to accept their mistake) and by the time Garlic rice was actually served, the food had gone cold (30 min since the entire food was served on the table) and by friend lost her appetite especially when you are forced to eat cold food. Ultimately she was left hungry !!!!<br/><br/><br/>Now comes the worst part of my experience. As part of the pre-set menu, we had only one Dessert option (unlike other restaurant menus under Gourmet Flavors which would typically give 4 options and we have to select one of them). Post our dinner we ordered Four portions of Honey noodles with Ice cream (as per the set menu). We were shocked when the server gave us only 2 portions of Dessert stating that since one portion is too small (as customised to set menu – indicating they sever very small portion of dessert under the set menu in a way that it would not fulfil your appetite). We then informed the server that we are ok with the portion of noodles served to us but we would prefer 4 scoops of ice cream instead of 2 scoops since we were 4 of us. The server initially said Yes, went to the kitchen, returned back and informed us that he cannot give us 4 scoops. Considering the idea of combining the portions and serving just two dessert was decided by the chef without our consent we informed the server to take back the two portions and serve us four portions as per the menu and no of people. Suddenly after 5 min we see the chef coming to our table and looked absolutely furious with our request (which was as per the set menu concept). He reasoned out with us in a high pitch, that the “Set price Dessert” portion is “very small” and he has done a favour on us by serving larger portions in two plates and refused for four scoops of Ice cream. They he made the most interesting statement which gave out his actual reason for his frustration or anger, At the Price charged for the Set menu we cannot accommodate any dessert but Citi bank Gourmet Flavours forced us to include the dessert.” . This is when we realised the reason for only one dessert option in the menu. If he has some issue with his Hotel management participating in Gourmet Flavours then he should have raise it to his management instead of venting out his displeasure on the guest. He further mentioned that at this price, only honey Noodles can be served but he was kind enough to accommodate Ice cream along with it and hence our request for additional scoop was unfair on our part.<br/><br/>This whole incidence blew us apart and we had to finally raise it to the Duty Manager who apologized to us. But that cannot un-turn our dining experience that night. Especially when one of us was left completely hungry. Our mistake was we choose to dine at 5 star restaurant which we least expected to ruin our evening. <br/><br/>My point is if the chef was not willing to be a part of any restaurant week then hotel management should not force such restaurant to participate and ruin someone’s dining experience.

Very good restaurant for a fine Chinese meal in South Mumbai. The Chilli butter soup served here was very delicious. However, it's better to ask the server to recommend the dishes as they're the ones who will guide the best. As far as the desserts are concerned, do not miss out on the Almond Honey Tart, which is simply divine and made with pure Himalayan Honey.

Settled at this place for dinner... And the evening turned to be awesome. Firstly amazing menu and superb hospitality. A few of us jumped in with a set course and others were on their ala-carte spree! Well whatever it is do not miss the lobsters here. One of the best one's here at Mumbai. Definitely worth a visit!

Its a 4.3 actually, or sonewhere between 4-4.5. We are indian food buffs but tried chinese this time for family dinner. This restaurant outdid k&k. The lemon coriander soup was amazing, light and refreshing. Manchow soup was average though. The veg and chicken momos were quite authentic but the absence of proper momo chutney left us wanting. The show was however stolen by the flat rice noodles along with black bean sauce veggies that we customised. It was just excellent and some of us though not very hungry over did the intake :)<br/>The desserts were quite good (date soaked cake) and almond pips.

Went here for a dinner with my family. I was not too happy with the entrance as one had to pass through another restaurant to reach this one. The look was typically Chinese and the ambience was just okay compared to ITC standards. We were given a corner table which was very comfortable. We ordered for Hot and Sour Soup and for starters we took Singapore fried prawns, Lobsters with Kungpao sauce and Duck with Hoisen sauce. What annoyed me a bit was that they didn't serve Golden fried prawns. However on being served the starters all annoyance vanished. It tasted amazing and was served exquisitely. The duck though could have been better. For main course we ordeted Lobster in yuxiang sauce , Hunan Chicken and a Pan fried noodles. All tasted wonderful and the final icing on the cake was the desert - the chef served us the mango Platter and the alphonsos ended my day really well. A great dinner and cheers to their food.

Shanghai Club is one gem of a place for fine dining when it comes to Chinese food. Having been twice to K&K already, we decided to explore Shanghai Club the next time we planned a meal at the ITC. Great decision it turned out to be.<br/><br/>A work promotion of a dear one was the special occasion, which called for celebrations and that was what led us to Shanghai Club on a Saturday night last month. It was a sudden plan and we did not make any reservations. However, it turned out to be absolutely fine as there were barely few tables which were occupied then and we got seated immediately.<br/><br/>Famished that we were, we decided to give the drinks a skip and proceeded directly to the food. Our sweet server (I miss her name!) was kind enough to help us with all our ordering. Apparently, the Chinese name of each dish was given on the menu, in the same script, along with the pronunciation of the same in English letters. We did not understand both. It was simply on the basis of the description of the dish given next to its name and some help from the sweet lady, that we placed our orders, each of which turned out to be outstanding!<br/><br/>The first to come was the Ningmeng Xiangtsai tang which we commonly know as Lemon Coriander Soup. We were more keen on having the exotic sounding Chinese Chili Butter Soup, but were told that it was a thick soup and would be too heavy if we were planning to order appetisers and main course too. However, we weren’t told that this lemon coriander soup itself would be loaded with veggies, which would be enough to fill us up! Next we had was an appetizer named Mati Chao Yusun which contained an amazing combo of veggies and sauce - Sweet Waterchestnut, Babycorn and the BBQ sauce. It Looked very beautiful, was crunchy and was tossed in the perfect quantity of sauce that kept intact the taste of the veggies too! <br/><br/>We were almost 70% full even before reaching the main course, as the portions of the food was humungous! However, we decided to over eat a bit that day and called for the Cuizha Mian (again, based on recommendation!) which were Pan Fried Crispy noodles with mix vegetables in sauce. Although it seemed a bit bland at first, the taste of the gravy on the fried noodles kept growing and we eventually came to love it! <br/><br/>There were a few recommendations for dessert as well, but by now we were bursting, having already over eaten a lot. Will save the sweet stuff for some other occasion! Special mention of the sweet and spicy roasted peanuts which were given to us to munch, at the beginning of the meal. It wasn’t like anything I’ve had before! Each peanut had the sweetness of sugar and spiciness of red chillies in equal portions, and popping it one by one as we waited for our food added to the fun!<br/><br/>Shanghai Club is a real find when it comes to Chinese food, a place whose brilliance has been under estimated and under rated in comparison to many other Chinese fine dining restaurants in this side of town. I really look forward to trying their set menu for lunch soon, which seems like an awesome deal for trying out most of their spread. Highly impressed!

When one visits an ITC restaurant the food is expected to be good, not the case with Shanghai Club though. The food is not good but outstanding, I never expected the food to be so yummy. We went for their set menu and opted for all veg. The water chestnuts and baby corn in barbecue sauce was amazing and so was the sweet corn soup. The mains were equally good and made for an excellent lunch. No dish was fancy it was what anyone would call routine Chinese stuff, but the flavours and taste was exceptional . I would in fact rate this above the well known Kababs and Curries at the same hotel.

The maxim "build it and they will come" certainly applies to Shanghai Club. What I found remarkable about the Pan Asian restaurant in ITC Grand Central is emphasis on quality and detailing from the design aesthetics to the presentation of the dishes which had me reaching out for a phone too often to take photographs of the culinary composition!! What most people don't know is that they can escape to indulge in an elaborate meal here. I use the word "escape" because that's what you do to get away from the commonplace and in the case, like I did, you'll discover the difference between regular and exceptional — and complete credit goes to none other than Chef Shrey Sood who discussed our preferences and whipped up bespoke dishes!<br/> <br/>We soon discovered that the chef's intent was to create exceptional dishes which were artistically compelling, and to tailor it to our preferences, light and flavorsome. So my friend and I embarked on the culinary journey with a platter of assorted dimsums — steamed vegetable wantons, prawn crystal dumplings and chicken shao mai. Each dimsum was distinct, indicative care was taken in their selection. But the best was yet to come — "Steamed Chashao Bao". The steamed buns filled with tender, sweet, slow-roasted pork were melt-in-the-mouth sumptuous and we couldn't help requesting for seconds! "Steamed Scampi" was up next. It was visually appealing — and as promised by the chef — light, off-the-hook fresh and flavoursome seafood!<br/> <br/>There was much camaraderie and conversation as my friend and I had met after a while. And then the entrees were served — "StirFried Pork Tenderloin With Oyster Sauce", "Steamed Basa In Guizhou Sauce" and "Stir Fried Chinese Greens with burnt garlic" and a side of steamed rice. The stir-fried fried pork was fibrous and wholesome. but the crowning glory was the basa in the chefs signature guizhou sauce — the savoury black bean chili sauce made with aromatic fermented black beans was the perfect accompaniment to the freshest basa ever! Blissful doesn't come close to describing the flavours! When the final dish was placed before us I can't tell you how wonderful the fragrance of Chinese greens was… delicious and healthy!! We also discovered that no matter how full you can get from eating the most lightweight flavourful food there's always room for dessert and we marvelled at just how sweet and juicy the raspberry sorbet was. Reminiscing back to the luncheon, the chefs willingness to whip up bespoke dishes and the efficient service, I highly recommend Shanghai Club for flavorsome authentic Chinese cuisine… it's certainly a place I'd return to on subsequent trips to Mumbai. It was a day special...and Dinner here made it more special and memorable .<br/>Well the choice was Chinese on that day and Shanghai Club was on my hit list. The place shares the same entry point with Kebabs and Curries. We got a place for 3 without any waiting time on a weekend. We got comfortable and straight away took the round. Well the menu has many dishes divided into poultry fish meat and pork and all authentically Chinese names to spell and sound. Well not to get confused we asked the lady taking order. We decided to go with a round of soups first i.e chicken Manchow and crabmeat soup. Both were excellent. <br/>Than came the round of Chicken starter and Pomfret. Chicken starter Mizhi Jipian was sweet and spicy and Pomfret was Gui-Yang Chang-Yu was the best. The starters quantity for 3 people was more than enough. But still we had place for some main course.... We called for the fried rice Tsaijiao Jinsuan Chaofan and gravy chicken Hunan Dijing. The starters and soup got our 70% appetite and the rest 30% main course. The quantity is mind blowing and the quality is perfect . Thebest part is no artificial colours or flavours. Had a wonderful time and will come again for sure.

Shanghia Club, A restaurant name rather unheard of, pardon me for I wallow in my ignorance of elite hotel suites and their picturesque, niche and generally expensive places of food that exist inside of these moneyed man-made maze. The name 'Shanghai Club' paints my memory as one of the elite beachside club from Grand Theft Auto that I could drive into, hook up with someone by the bar and sip a Caipirinha in the company of Yakuza triads. Though the reality was far more simpler, classy and heavily dosed with shades of royal gold enough to impress the Sultan of Brunei. Perhaps, it was dressed in all that teak rafters, parquet flooring and parasol lanterns to make you feel equally regal while food arrives in decorated plates, polished silverware by the table and hospitality that puts a Thai massage to shame.

A perfect blend of flavors which tickled my taste buds.<br/><br/>Crab Course:-<br/><br/>Singapore chili crab with egg white<br/><br/>After the delicately flavored amuse bouche, Chef Shrey Sood served us heavenly delicious Singapore chilli crab. Which included tender & juicy crab tossed in chilli garlic sauce. The sauce had dominant flavor of garlic & chilli as the name suggests with the sharpness of spring onion. Every one avoided using their hands in the beginning while having crab. But as soon as everyone had their first bite they surrendered Knife & fork and started eating with their hands.It was so delicious & mouth watery that you would feel like eating them on & on. Definitely made my day!<br/><br/>Appetizers:-<br/><br/>Crab course was followed by some appetizers, all of them with different texture, taste, aroma & flavor- what a delicious way to pump up your appetite.<br/><br/>Steam Scampi with hot bean & mango<br/><br/>Scampi were steamed & tossed in hot bean sauce with the punch of diced mango.Combination of sweetness of scampi, spiciness of sauce & sourness of mango worked out well.<br/><br/>Crispy Pomfret with Chinese Barbeque sauce<br/><br/>It was the Star appetizer for the day. The crispiness of pomfret with the flavor of sweet Chinese Barbeque sauce was  right on target which attracted everyone to have it again & again. You could feel the crunch while having every bite. Pomfret was properly marinated, thinly coated with batter & deep fried. Later it was tossed in Chinese barbeque sauce. If you visit this outlet, this is the dish to look out for .<br/><br/>Prawn Bamboo shoot & Waterchestnut shumai<br/><br/>Shumai is nothing but a traditional dumpling served as dim sum.It had a very good texture but could not match against the taste of other 2 starters. It had a stuffing made up of prawn mince, bamboo shoot & waterchestnut. More use of strong flavors would have changed the game all together.<br/><br/>Soup:-<br/><br/>Seafood Chilli<br/><br/>As soon as the soup is placed on the table you get that lemony garlicky chilli aroma that hits your nostrils and open all the senses making you tempt. Soup with dominating flavor of chilli, garlic & coriander. It had prawns,squid,crab and pomfret with some vegetables, which gave body to the soup. A complete package with full of flavor in it.<br/><br/>Main Course:-<br/><br/>Wok Tossed Hakka Noodles with Pokchoy<br/><br/>Hakka noodles were little over done, As soon as you have noodles it would just turn pasty in ur mouth. Cooking time for noodles need to be worked upon. But had a good taste along with the crunch of pokchoy.<br/><br/>Mix Vegetable Fried Rice<br/><br/>Rice tossed with few vegetables & flavored with aromat. A perfect accompaniment to seafood main courses.<br/><br/>Steamed Lotus Leaf wrapped Rice with shiitake<br/><br/>Simple Steamed rice flavored with shitake which is wild mushroom. Every rice was perfectly puffed & cooked to perfection. As soon as you open steam rice wrapped with lotus leaf, strong aroma follows which tempts you to have it.<br/><br/>Stir Fried Lobster with Guzion sauce<br/><br/>Another dish that you should look out for when you visit this place which made every1 drool around. Lobster cut into pieces, marinated properly , dipped in batter & deep fried. Finally tossed in sauce made up of garlic,soya, bell pepper,chillies & garnished with spring onion.<br/><br/>Steam River Sole with Ginger Soya<br/><br/>A stew which had poached river sole & vegetables in thin gravy with a splash of ginger & kick of fresh coriander. It had very delicate flavor & went very well with steamed rice with shitake. The fish was perfectly cooked & not over done. Soya being umami flavor made the dish hit right taste buds making it one of the favorites of night.<br/><br/>Desserts:-<br/><br/>Jasmine Flavoured Tiramisu<br/><br/>Good variation to classical Tiramisu which is flavoured with coffee. It was creamy and mouth melting. Portion size was proper & the dessert was light as well. Even after having such a heavy meal i couldn't stop eating this tiramisu.<br/><br/>New World Star Anise Torte<br/><br/>Fabulous work by pastry team of ITC to create something like this. Every one appreciated the taste of this dessert. It was properly layered with sponge & dark chocolate ganache, you could actually see all the layers so neatly & properly done. The secret element was, they added star anise powder while layering which gave the torte a different & unique flavor. Kudos to pastry team.<br/><br/>Vanilla & Red Bean Ice Cream<br/><br/>This was a little let down because the only thing you could taste was milk & sugar.Flavor of Vanilla & Red bean  was missing. But it definitely had good texture.<br/><br/>Oriental Fruit Platter<br/><br/>Fresh cut fruits on plate , best option to end your meal with. They served around 6 fresh fruits which were juicy, sweet & neatly arranged on a plate. The neatness defined the skill of chefs Itc have.<br/><br/>====Service====<br/><br/>ITC has always set high standards for food they serve, but i could also see the standards, the skilled staff that they have in service as well. Each & every person was on his toes to help the guests. They made sure everything was made available to us. Some had requests for wifi connection, charge their phone and many more, which were happily accomplished in no time by the service team. With so many dishes to go, they were charged up till the last plate was served. I recently visited this beautiful restaurant in the heart of Mumbai on a lovely Saturday night. This visit was extremely special as it was a surprise from my boyfriend. Visiting the ITC Grand Central was a treat in itself, while this little restaurant with it's amazing Chinese cuisine (my favorite) is just the cherry on the icing. The hospitality is commendable, the ambience is serene and pleasing and the food is exceptionally good! We totally enjoyed it. They have a huge selection of wines, we ordered a Sula and enjoyed it. All in all, it was a lovely experience and we're planning to visit this one more often.

Every time I've stepped into the ITC, I've felt like time has slowed down. Walk through the long marbled corridors, gaze at the water fountain, stroll into the restaurant and peruse the menu leisurely. Definitely order the water chestnut starter and the egg plant main course. Finish with the sticky walnut dessert. While the food cannot be said to be totally different from Oriental cuisine anywhere else, the ITC lends it luxurious charm.

I wish I could give as many stars as the prices off the menu of this restaurant.. When you circle your car to enter ITC, you are stuck in awe at it's architecture and interiors which blends the old world charm with new aptly. You expect your dining experience to be the same. You expect beautifully designed/presented dishes at a grand awe inspiring place. Sadly, I could not relate to any.<br/>We went to this restaurant at 10.30 to be greeted by the staff to a scantily filled restaurant, rightfully so. Then we were made comfortable by a sweet Indian lady but with fake Mandarin accent, which was not necessary.<br/>We were handed the menu and we literally were blown off. Not by the dishes, but prices. No, we are not one of those people who check the prices first ( we have been to many 5 starers) but this one was an exception. Nothing that cleanses the palate was below 1k and fills the tummy, below 2k. I thought they might make it in a different way, present in a mind blowing way. Nothing. A regular rice/gravy in a pot style. The taste was also regular for it's price. The dessert was not at all out of the world, they just put the pastry on a plate and done with it. Overall bill for rice/gravy and 1 pastry with 2 diet cokes was around 3.2k. I felt that the experience did not deserve this much price. Probably if they improve on their presentation, I might have been happy.<br/>Overall, I felt like they were basking in ITC glory but forgot to follow up to that hype. Sorry.

Paid a very big amt infact d highest till date for my date and honestly der wer much better places dan ds. Unnecessary high prices for average food and random interiors. Nothing was extraordinary here. I had a good time only till my cheque arrived. Disappointed ?

It's got ordinary food. I have to say the service was enthusiastic and that is what has pulled my rating up.<br/><br/>And then there is this rather strange occurance on the liquor menu, page after page has a scribble 'n' against most of the names in the list (see photograph). We were told that liquor was not available in the restaurant but elsewhere. I ordered a Kahlua and it took them a while to get it, which was not too bad actually. <br/><br/>What amazed me was the Restaurant Manager informing us, dutifully, that even Dublin was out of stock on Kahlua! What's happening ITC?

Shanghai club in ITC is a small section beyond their Indian restaurant kabab & curries. The ambiance is nothing special, in fact they have some really strange looking large lanterns! We visited them for Citibank restaurant week. The food in the starters was very spicy and we asked them to temper it down for the remaining courses. The 2nd course had mixed vegetables, sliced pork, Hunan chicken and basil fish. All of them were drenched in similar red colored sauce, reminiscent of Indian Chinese. The desserts were nothing to talk about either and could've come from a local pastry/dessert shop. The good part was the very sweet and polite staff and excellent service. Quite a miss able place otherwise.

Hospitality to service, this place is top notch!!! <br/><br/>Sweet people as staff, superb Chinese food (some of the best I've had at a five star) and decor that'll make you feel at home, this place has got it all! The best part is they make changes to food preparations according to your palette.. So if you have a few modifications I mind then let them know in advance and they'll make sure you get it that way! <br/><br/>We were greeted by the head chef on completion of our dinner!! Just a nice and sweet personal touch!! Definitely coming back..!!

We went to Shanghai club on Valentine's day. First of all, I have to bring to everyone's notice that I have a swollen face, painful ulcers all along my inner cheek, thanks to the sada paan that they have, probably full of extra katha and chuna. It burnt my inner cheeks (mucosa) immediately. I have been in severe pain and had to take steroid shots and am still taking pain killers even 3 days after the incident. Another friend of mine had a similar experience.<br/>Then, we were told it was a set menu. We were 5 non vegetarians and one vegetarian. First of all, we were shown a menu card where non vegetarians would be served chicken friend rice and chicken noodles. However, they ended up giving vegetarian rice and noodles to all of us. The non veg starters were tasteless. The non veg main course was also pathetic. The ac was too cold. We told them a number of times, but the temperature wasnt reduced. We wasted so much food , couldnt take away whatever lil we liked because it was a set menu and came back unhappy and paying much more than what we would have paid at the Taj.<br/>It is sad that ITC Maratha is so good and ITC Grand a complete disaster.

You need no introduction to Shanghai club when its located inside ITC Grand Central. I visited it while i was staying at the hotel.<br/>Elegant & Classy are the words ! We had ordered the appetizers that they suggested.. it turned out to be really good. Quite authentic in the taste. In the main course in spite of mentioning extra brocoli the chef missed out on adding it at all. The chef later came & apologised for the same. Also compensated for it with a complementary dessert.<br/>Overall the food was good. Recommeded for date nights.

My aunt was in town and she wanted to eat good 'Indian Chinese' and so a bunch of us ended up at Shanghai Club for lunch. Since it was my aunt's 'To Do' list tick-off, I didn't interfere with the ordering. I simply went with the flow.<br/><br/>Shanghai Club is right next to Kebabs & Kurries and this entire restaurant block is located in a hotel in the middle of a busy district, and yet, it seems isolated in a large space all its own. A space that is breezy, quiet, languid, and relaxing.<br/><br/>However, the food was ordinary. I don't remember a single thing I ate there. <br/>Authentic? Can't say. I've never been to China.

We went on a Sunday afternoon and tried their set menu. Honestly the food was like Indian Chinese with manchow soup and Schezwan noodles as two of the items. Perhaps we should have tried a la carte but I doubt we will come again

Great for a quiet dinner. Given its forte for Indian food, I somehow think other restaurants at ITC somehow get ignored. Shanghai Club is a classic example, tucked away in a corner of K&K, this lovely restaurant is easy to miss but offers some great food and equally good service. Place tends to be very quiet but if it is a cosy dinner for two, it is pretty much top of my list.

Have been regularly visiting this place since the last 4 years and one this is for certain, you can't go wrong.staff is very courteous but that's the case in any 5star and the basa fish is to die for. I suggest don't go for the std manchurians and Hakka noodles and let your taste buds go on an adventure.<br/>

This place is excellent ! The best chinese food in Mumbai ! The service is courteous and timely. We went on a friday and it was packed ! Took 10 min to get a table but the food made it up..amazing poultry options and the lobster is to die for..even while I was waiting, the manager was coureous enuf to take our drink orders and did not make us feel bored..thank you itc !

We went to the Shanghai Club for two reasons. I had never been there whereas my wife had on previous visits to Mumbai. Also, her cousin who lives here, was a discount card carrying diner. I must say one thing here. The wheelchair the hotel provided me was top notch service from my arrival at the door to the taxi that took me home.<br/><br/>As the food we agreed to have a wonton soup with chicken wontons, a vegetable wonton soup, a vegetable and mushroom dish, a basa in black bean sauce, a white rice and a fried rice with eggs. The chicken wanton soup had a peculiar bitter flavor. I asked them to get me a vegetable wanton soup instead. I eat rice as a filler. The fried rice was okay. The fish was flavorful because of the heat from the black bean sauce. I have eaten better fish preparations in regular restaurants in the US.<br/><br/>Damages -<br/><br/>Chicken Wonton Soup - 450.00<br/>Veg Wonton Soup - 425.00<br/>Veg and mushrooms - 925.00<br/>Black bean basa - 1,300.00<br/>Steamed rice - 450.00<br/>Egg fried rice - 575.00<br/><br/>Food Total - 4,125.00<br/>Discount - 1374.86<br/>VAT 12.5% - 343.77<br/>Service tax 3.6% - 99.01<br/>Edu cess 0.07% - 1.93 (no idea)<br/>SHE cess 0.04% - 1.10 (no idea)<br/>Payment due - 3,195.95 - US$60.41<br/><br/>$20 per person?
