Review Harbour Bar - Mumbai

A M
The Heritage walk at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel made us aware of the history behind the iconic "From the Harbor since 1933" cocktail that's being made the same way since the 1933. For some reason, they've removed it from the new menus but it's still available and comes with a little storytelling and live bartending/mixing by the staff. The story is quite fascinating. The prices of the cocktails are steep however. We paid 3600 INR for two of the same cocktails. The complimentary snacks were delicious. They've covered up the windows it seems, so the ambiance wasn't anything special. Service was exceptional as always at this hotel.

The service and atmosphere deserves more than 5 stars. A beautiful ambience with a view of the Gateway of India.

First bar in Mumbai. Signature cocktails are a must have. The story telling by the bartender gives you a good feel. Prices are reasonable considering the heritage and popularity of the Taj. The complimentary snacks provided are awesome. Beautiful view of Gateway of India from the windows adds to the experience. Recommended.

What a nice bar! Lots of history here with neat stories written on the walls. The drinks are pricey but the service and atmosphere made up for it! Drink menu is very good also. 👍

Taj has always given me some of the finest, classiest comfortable-est experience. Today apart from the food and drinks, I saw something that was so heartwarming. Grand palatial entrance made even grander by an indie sleeping comfortably at the very entrance the main highlight. Bless you Ratan Tata and everyone in the Taj family.

Harbour Bar the oldest licenced Bar in India. It's licence number is 01 the ambience of the bar is awesome 😎 it's bit small but quality drinks is must. I personally Enjoyed my time at bar. The music was bit low but overall great experience

Highlight is Harbour Bar being the First licensed Lounge Bar in the City. Picturesque ambience. I liked their interiors as it perfectly suited the old style bar look with comfortable seating. "From the Harbour since 1933" their signature coctail is worth a try. The bartender would narrate you the necessity of the invention of this cocktail. Would really recommend Harbour Bar for people who love to have a peaceful yet rocking evening with their loved ones😉

A brilliant place to unwind yourself. One of the oldest bar in Mumbai that was established in 1903. Fab drinks and tasty bits to eat alongwith. The drink that we ordered came with a story about itself. Make sure you find their signature drink on the menu and order that.

One of the best upscale places to relax, be amongst a good crowd around and let your hair down. Housed within Taj Mahal hotel, it is an iconic place as it's history goes by you can pamper yourself with few artisanal cocktails or chilled beer, coupled with few well made snacks and sides. Comfortable seating, quaint ambience and superb service will make every penny spent, a memorable one.

When it comes to Bombay’s bastions of old-world charm, there’s no where quite as timeless as The Taj Mahal Palace hotel. An iconic stalwart of the city’s storied past, the hotel is home to Harbour Bar – the oldest licensed bar in Bombay and perhaps one of the most fetching spots to sink a cocktail (or few) whilst idly gazing out at the boats, ships and yachts gently treading out against the ocean waves…

The first licensed bar in Mumbai, it is located at the lobby level and offers a spectacular view of the harbour of Gateway of India. At the entrance is a white marble counter with well stocked bar which is difficult to miss.

The bar menu offers classics carefully poured by the bartenders. It was my first and I must say the best experience with their wine.

A small tip :the comfortable sofas by the window are the most coveted seats.

The service, as expected was top-notch, personalised and warm.

I shall definitely visit soon to try their single malts.

Very royal n relaxing.

Thank u so much for best hospitality. Wherever I have visited Taj, let it be Pune, Mumbai, Colombo etc u have the same standards world over. Love u Taj. Kudos.

Was there 23rd evening to enjoy some wine and soak in the beautiful place.... but the experience didn’t go as planned thanks to a tiny cockroach jumping around on our table which fell from the popcorns!!!! That really makes me question the hygiene of the place and it goes without saying how much a cockroach freaks me out.... worst part is I noticed the cockroach after I had consumed some of the popcorn which felt gross!!!! This was highlighted to the associate but of course all he could do was apologise and walk away. Not a nice experience since you end up feeling sick after spotting such things on your date night!

The Hospitality is always top notch when you visit any Taj. Harbour Bar is Mumbai's first licensed bar. Its a small place with limited seating one the upper floor is Wasabi. Mostly people visit Harbour Bar for the Historic drinks, we weren't different. So we ordered Harbour Since 1933 and friend ordered Amrut (a scotch) and mocktail.
While preparing the drink, you get to hear the history and how it is prepared. Enjoy your drink overlooking Gateway of India.

Overlooking the gateway of India is a small bar which leads the way to Wasabi on the first floor.

Had two signature drinks Bombay Blaze and at the Harbour since 1933. Historical drinks made at your table with detail explanation about the process and the importance. Thank you Bhushan and Sandeep.

Worth trying the two drinks. My fav is at the Harbour since 1933.
Dipika
Quiet vibrant almost deserted. Sipping on Historical drinks munching delicious Brie and savoury by the harbour. Great service. Lovely ambiance.

A great place to grab a drink and chill. Try their amazing after dinner cocktails and enjoy the comfy loungy ambience and good views outside.

First visit to the place dint have any high expectations but the service was spot on, had fabulous cocktails and they had a stories to tell with each drink on how was it made what's it's history, to be frank it's a different experience , drinks looks amazing, people sitting around us had full attention to our table as we we're the only ones who experimented I guess. But totally worth a shot. Ambience we're ok no view considering it's named harbour bar we assumed it wd have one of the views as its name goes. Except that everything was spot on right from service till the drinks quailty. Will be back soon for more.

It will fulfil your wish to see taj from inside, as soon as you get inside, your hopes gonna blow up because no good music, expensive food, no great view outside, if it was on rooftop I would have been giving it 5 starts, service is good tho

best white russian - Decided to have a couple of drinks after dinner yesterday. Was in the mood for white russian but was skeptical as i haven't had good luck ordering those, Decided to risk it and boy was i not disappointed. The perfect combination of cream, liqueur and ice. Part cocktail part dessert. It was so good that wife who is usually a wine drinker switched.

On other fronts have a good selection of wines, whiskeys and cigars (no smoking space though). Service is great. Haven't tried their food yet.

Royal, rich as expected service is exceptional which is expected at the price u r paying, too deep in the pocket so go at ur own risk...but worth the money!

One of the oldest and finest bars that a hotel has in the country and they have always lived up to the fact of knowing their clients especially their Taj Club members by name and basis the same they also know what vodka you like or say a wine or a beer
I would definitely recommend that your into whisky or single malts then this is the best place that you will get your poison for sure
Great place for hanging out with friends or even on business too!!
The view here, is a kick in itself.!!
Situated at the heart of Gateway, this place has arguably the best view around.! The food is basically finger food and it is a purely drinking joint.!! In the winters, it gets even better.! Love it.. Cheers
Kanika Jain
The service is great however the ambience is okay.. The variety of alcohol that they serve is good..we went around 7.30pm to grab a drink before dinner and the place was quite deserted although they have 50% off on all the drinks!!

The Harbour Bar is the old stand by for old tippers! Great atmosphere and wonderful snacks to accompany a drink or two ! This is a favourite for those who like to mix business with booze, especially when entertaining Brits and Australians!

What a great experience. Great wait staff who are quite attentive but not overly attentive. Had Japanese whiskey, a rarity in India. Definitely should come and enjoy this place.

Decided to stop for a drink at this place before heading out to dinner. And boy was this place worth it. Special mention to Kiran for being fantastic staff to cater to whatever we wanted to order. Doctor Calabrase a mix of my favorite 2 spirits. And the Bombay Blue drink with the fire and all. Just sheer brilliance! Not to forget the snacks they serve popcorn / nuts. A definite must try

A fantastic view, Licensed bar #1 in Mumbai, some very good cocktails and Tapas make harbour bar a must visit on your visit to the Taj.

Though the original license document, which was framed and put up at the back of the bar was destroyed in the 26/11 attacks, the bar retains its dark, quiet persona, giving you space to enjoy your drink, through uninterrupted service and in case I forgot to mention, a lovely view!

Recommend reservations, specially if you want a corner table.

Awesomundo!!!

A calm & peaceful place located inside the Hotel Taj Mahal Palace. The lights are minimum and has very calming ambiance just to sit and relax with your cocktails and friends. The music being played is very soothing to your ears and the place smells very pleasing. The interiors looks luxurious and the view of Gateway of India looks even more attractive from inside. FUll marks for ambiance and decor.

I and my friend went there just to spend the Saturday night away from all the hustle and bustle. We ordered an Irish coffee which was really exquisite and they also served us 3 different snacks to munch on while drinking which is totally irresistible.

The staff/waiters are really warm and friendly and always available to sort you out with. Prefer to visit this place to have a good conversation with you better half or a date or with 2/3 of your friends. A tremendous jolly experience of the finest bar situated inside a landmark place in Mumbai. Too good to resist and sure place to visit. Worth every penny. Definitely try this for once.

Feeling a bit flush? What better place for a drink than the famous Harbour Bar. The views look out onto the Gateway of India...it's a bonus if the landmark is lit up.

The staff is courteous, efficient and very white glove-y...all in a good way. The drinks come with a trio of salty snacks...which are hard to keep one's hands off, of.

And what better snack to go with your drinks than the legendary Golden Fried Prawns from Golden Dragon next door.

Never a bad time...always leaves me with a smile. But it won't come cheap.

Definitely one of the places that hasn't lost the old mumbai charm

the oldest bar in Mumbai...somber ambience and a fantastic view.
the crowd is quite and it's a perfect place for a quite chat
I tried the Harbour cocktail...it's a drink with an awesome history
pungent strong and different
the best part of the drink is that the waiter tells you it's history and prepares it right next to you
you are also
handed a booklet of the history of Taj
it's not caught up as frequently visited place but it sure deserves a place in the Sun
This is one of the finest gems of the city and I'm sad that I discovered it so late! We were waiting on a table at Wasabi for dinner and decided to have a drink or two in the 30 minutes we had to spare. They had a bitters promotion going on all of last month and since we were in before 8pm, just in time for happy hour, I ordered two French 77s for myself. Taj has concocted its own menu of 6 bitters ranging from citrus to chai spice and the two that I tried (#1 and #6) were absolutely divine!

I recently visited the Harbour Lounge (Jan 2015) with my cousin and because of the Happy Hour, I happened to try out a few newly added Asian Spiced Market Cocktails on the menu along with home-made bottled cocktails. I wasn't blown away by Grape Leaves, a Ketel one vodka based cocktail with ginger syrup, coriander, lime and lemon but I really enjoyed the Jalisco Fruit - which was a very nice tequila based cocktail.

We also asked the bartender to demonstrate the making of a signature Harbour Bar drink which comes with a story. The drink itself is par excellence. You could youtube it but I insist that you actually experience this in person. Such a beautiful bar experience, this.

The plush ambience and quiet in this place makes it worth for escaping the craziness outside. Perfect both for a scumptious meal or a casual drink, it becomes the ideal place for any occasion.
Gwen Rosario
Their signature Harbour cocktail is truly worth ordering. The ambience and quiet in this place makes its worth it for escaping the craziness outside.
