Review Leopold Cafe - Mumbai

Kavya Jayan
This is an infamous cafe so we wanted to visit it as a wishlist item. The food was good and tasty. Although we had to wait in queue for a seat, they gave the seats very fast. We had ordered italian dishes and they tasted quite good. But everything is too expensive. At least for me it will just be a one time wishlist cafe and not more. The ambience is very good, it actually feels like an old European cafe. But it seems like it is always too crowded.

Food is good, quality and quantity wise both. But it felt a bit overpriced maybe because of the vibe and atmosphere. Service is fairly quick. Overall a good experience, but the ambience and atmosphere felt below avg. to me. Air conditioner is not their and you'll feel the heat while having a hot sizzler.

The Leopold Cafe and Bar is a restaurant and bar[2] on Colaba Causeway, in Colaba area of Mumbai, India, located across from the Colaba Police station.[3][4] It was the location of one of the 2008 Mumbai attacks as it was one of the first sites attacked. It was founded in 1871 by Iranis (a term used for Zoroastrians in Mumbai who arrived in India in the 19th century, as opposed to "Parsis") and named after King Leopold of the Belgians. These Zoroastrian Iranians came to India in the late 19th and early 20th century, and many of them opened restaurants now often termed Irani cafés.[6] It first started out as a wholesale cooking oil store and over the years has variously been a restaurant, store and pharmacy (hence the name "Leopold Cafe & Stores"[7]).[8] Prior to the terrorist attack, it was particularly known as a popular hangout for foreign tourists. After the attack, it is now also popular with many Indians to commemorate the spirit of defiance. The Leopold Cafe has preserved some of the signs of the attack as a memorial, whereas at the Taj and Trident, the damage from the attacks has been repaired.[9] It uses an Achaemenid Persian Lion Rhyton as a part of its logo to indicate its Zoroastrian affiliation. It is one of a couple of Irani Cafes that are still doing good business, while many others are fading away.[10] The cafe was an early site of gunfire and grenade explosions during the 2008 Mumbai attacks by terrorists on 26 November, at about 9:30 PM. The terrorists, approximately an hour after landing, fired shots into the restaurant from outside, killing 10 people and injuring many others. The restaurant was extensively damaged during the attacks.[11]Sourav Mishra, a Reuters reporter and one of the first media witnesses of the attack, suffered severe bullet injuries.[12][13] After spending one and a half minutes at the Leopold Cafe, the terrorists walked over to The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, the main target. The cafe defiantly reopened four days after the attack,[14][15] but was reclosed on the recommendation of the police as a safety measure after two hours, due to the unexpectedly large size of crowds gathering there.[16]

A must visit in every food lover’s bucket list, this place exudes vibrancy and warmth alike. Worth its consistent quality and taste, the cafe is a crowd puller for its sheer range of food and drinks. All cuisines are delectable. Desserts are heavenly. Service is super quick possibly due to queues especially on weekends. Prices have gone up substantially post pandemic and seem a bit unreasonable. But it’s a good go to place once in a while to unwind.

Too crowded but good food and great music. They have automated the whole ordering system which is praiseworthy. But too much of rush causes nuisance.

Had a great time at the cafe. The ambience and the food both are up to the mark.

Most commonly visited places in Mumbai with historical importance, Leopold has wide variety of tasty food options. Especially would recommend the Korean wings and Chicken burger. Even the desserts are a must try.

Leopold Cafe is a very famous and I'll old cafe in Colaba, South Bombay. It's is located on the busiest and expensive area of Mumbai. It has a nice ambience. Good food. Fast service. Expensive. Parking not available. Seating almost always full. Seats are almost always full. It is difficult to get a seat soon, you might have to wait. We tired the blueberry cheesecake and it was normal. The beverage and snacks are good. Kheema pav, Bun Maska, Egg preparations and desserts are tasty. Visit this cafe only for the vibe and location and not mainly for the food.

Historic cafe with a tragic event attached. But apart from that, food, ambience are good. Love their cheesecake. Though I would love to have the option of ordering few biscottis/cookies with tea/coffee and not have to buy a certain quantity.

This is the place where I had my first date in the year 2005. I was new to Mumbai, and my wife (my classmate and date back then) took me there. The service, food, music, and the overall vibe of the place were so awesome that it became the beginning of something that would last for a lifetime ❤️ In the past 18 years or so, we have visited this place countless times. Not just to relive the great memories but also to feel young once again. Nothing has changed there: the food, service, music, and ambiance are still as great as they have always been. I wish I could give more than a 5-star rating to Leopold 😊.

One of my personal favorite cafe to visit in south Bombay.. I have been here many times this place never disappoint as it has been most iconic places... Food, drinks everything is great. Beautiful place to chill out with friends and family. Do try there pizza and sandwiches also they have so many combos to choose from Vibe of this place has always been amazing Mostly crowded place so wait time is about 10 to 20 mins. Parking is almost difficult to find at sometimes even in paid parking.

So the weather was super hot and we had to stand in a long line to get inside. When we did go in there was literally no space because it was extremely crowded. The bartender and the waitress were really nice to us, so all the waiting and heat is forgiven. Although they should have a space to wait. The food was delicious and the vibe amazing. I have heard that this place used to be cheaper and now that its popular they have increased the prices. I am not sure if its true, if you know anything so respond. Overall, i had fun. The prices are not very high when you see the portion size on the food. I was a happy customer.
