PI PIZZERIA - The second word in its title makes the place seem so fancy and gives out the authentic italian pizza vibes. It made me create this image of this place to be very classic, high end restaurant but I am sad to say that it did not live up to my expectations.. Read on to know why....
Its located at a stone throwing distance from Khar station, so if you are relying on the locals, you won't have any trouble finding out this place. Coming straight to the ambience of this place, I think there has been some false uploads on zomato for this particular outlet. I guess there are pictures from another outlet of Pi Pizzeria, which have been uploaded under the Khar one, which led me to believe that the decor of this place is something else. But when I reached there, it turned out to be something differnet all together. Its a bit small if you look at it, hardly a seating of 6-7 tables. It seemed that the kitchen has more area than the dining section, which is a good thing in a way. The kitchen down stairs has a glass window, through which you can see the chef at work, preparing your food. Though small, its maintained properly and still doesn't fail to give you a cool feel.
Moving straight ahead to food,
GARLIC BREAD WITH GARLIC BUTTER - Now this is one of the signature dishes you would want to try at any good italian joint, and so was the case with me. It was a bit confusing for me, so as to why would you have garlic bread with all the more garlic butter. Wouldn't it be too garlic-y? But anyway, with no other choice in sight, I went in for this. I wouldn't say it was 'garlic bread with garlic butter' but more like 'bread with garlic butter'. I loved the freshly baked bread. Its freshness was evident through its aroma and fluffyness. It was fresh and all, but it was far from being a garlic bread, seemed just a regular bread to me. The garlic butter is a different thing all together. Prepared inhouse the perfect proportion of butter and garlic mixed to give you a great taste.
PARMESAN AND ROSEMARY TRUFFLE FRIES - Now reading the name through the menu made me feel that this is gonna be something big, because it truffle and parmesan with fries. Now fries are something with which you can openly experiment, without the fear of messing. But here, I wouldn't say they messed up, not one bit, but the fries were not what I had in mind. They were made in truffle oil, and the parmesan was just dusted on top as a garnish. Though you won't be able to taste the cheese due to its less quantity in every single bite, but the truffle oil tang doesn't leave your side. Not what I expected, but qualifies as a good side order.
PEACH & LEMON ICED TEA - Again they didn't surpirse me when they said that most of the drinks from the mocktails were unavailable. I was curious to try a couple of them, seeing their mouth watering pictures on instagram, but then had to go for these homemade iced teas. They were simply pleasant. The lemon variant was much better than its peach counter part, tasted very crude and could have been much better.
CRUNCHY PAPRIKA PRAWNS - Now this was something good. Nicely fried prawns which had a pleasant spice to it, thanks to the paprika. Quite good actually.
MARGHERITA - Now this is their USP, stone oven made pizzas, and they were really good. I purposefully decided to try something as subtle as a margherita, cause this pizza helps you appreciate the taste of the sauce, as well as the base. The size was quite big, just like they show in the tv shows where they are holding a huge slice of pizza, of which you would be full in just a couple. The sauce used was freshly prepared inhouse, and topped with our favourite mozzarella cheese made it a delicious combo. This pizza is a treat to all the 5 senses, okay just 4 actually cause you can't hear a pizza now can you. I am happy that one thing that they should make perfectly, was indeed up to the mark.
Now, we decided to skip on another pizza though it was really tempting, and went on to have 2 of their desserts.
CHEESE CAKE - Now this, THIS my friends is what I call a cheesecake! This was definitely one of the best ones I have had. The consistency, the thick texture, the crunch of the biscuit base, and the hint of strawberry pulp on top, every single thing was delicious. The peculiar taste of sour cream cheese will make you fall for it, and so will its dense consistency. Thats how a cheesecake is supposed to be, and Pi Pizzeria indeed did a good job here.
DEVIL'S CAKE - The description promised us a dark chocolate pastry, or may be what was what I presumed it to be. But instead it was a warm chocolate cake with a bit of chocolate sauce and a tiny bowl of vanilla ice cream. It was not a bad dessert, but it surly had some flaws. The amount of chocolate sauce was way too less, rendering the cake to be dry. The vanilla ice cream did help to a certain extent tough. I would recommend that skip this, and go for a second serving of the cheesecake!
Pi Pizzeria, being honest, was a bir of a let down. The place does serve some really good pizzas and desserts, and the appetizers are not half bad either but it did not match to my expectations. I wish and hope, that on my future visits, I am more delighted. But one this is sure, I will always leave with a full and happy tummy!
Happy Burping!!!
