Nice Malvani food - I ordered for surmai fry, chapati, mutton masala, prawns masala and Rice. They don't have much seating capacity. Located on the aarey road, goregaon, close to Goregaon east.

Simple yet amazing tasty food!- summary of my visit to this tiny gem hidden in Goregaon East. The place is not that big but it houses one of the best Kombi Wade’s I have ever tasted. The price is also reasonable for the quantity. The taste is very rich and the spices used are also quite taste. I had order one kombi wade which came with extra curry, chicken masala, 5 big side wade, onion, solkadi and some chutney. Overall the food was very good. The taste of the wade was also very yummy. The hotel is located right on Aarey Road towards Goregaon East railway station. I found it easy to locate this place. The staff is very humble. They even accept UPI / Paytm payment options. I would rate this 10/10

Yesterday, due to Ganesh Visarjan..the roads in Mumbai were empty ..empty means no bumper to bumper traffic..hence we made an impromptu plan to drive down to Goregaon..we use to live in this western suburb of Mumbai years ago..this entire western stretch including Versova ,Madh etc are full of tiny Malvan Katta eateries where they serve authentic Malvani food and fresh fish ..One of these is Malvan Katta just at the junction of Goregaon East a few mins drive from Oberoi Mall..use to be our to go place then ..so we brought our son here today for lunch..The food like always simple,fresh and delicious..tiny restaurant but very clean ..and super pocket friendly..a few pics for all of you..We had Surmai fry ,Bombil fry/ Bombay duck ,Bangda fry/ mackerel / prawns fry .the son had chicken masala with vadi and solkadi ..I gulped down a bottle of coke ..

I have a liking for Malwani food due to its unique & peculiar flavours, & especially due to taste of coconut which is generally very prominent in Malwani recipes. Ordered Mutton Fry & Suko Kolambi from Hotel Malwan Katta. My experience with their food is narrated below :- - Mutton Fry : Don't get carried away by the name of the dish. The preparation is very different from what it sounds. It was a thick gravy which was oily. Immensely flavourful though. The taste of coconut in the gravy was evident. Mutton was tender, however, the mutton pieces used could have been better. The dish was delicious. - Suki Kolambi : "Kolambi" means Prawns. This dish too was prepared in a thick gravy. It was spicy & very oily. Prawns used were of small size. Flavour of coconut was indeed evident. The dish was average in taste. Overall, the food was nice & flavourful. Would love to try it again. One of the best seafood restaurants in the suburbs of Mumbai, small and compact but big on taste and authenticity. Definitely go here if it's seafood that you're craving and you won't be disappointed, to top it all it is a very inexpensive place too. Two people can easily eat within 1500/- including starters and main course. You may end up sharing a table as they have limited seating capacity and people always waiting for a table.

Awesome food is an understatement. The sukka crab and Sol kari is worth a lifetime.

The Bombay duck fry had nothing but just a bad taste of oil. The coating was burnt and badly fried. There was basically only oil !!!! Restaurant should have some honesty towards the food they’re delivering, based on the money they charged.

I had ordered a Chiken thali. The quantity was very less then expected for the rice and 3 chapatis. Would recommend not to have thali ordered at home.

I had ordered Mori Dry and Malvan Katta Special... I could just see coconut gravy in Mori Dry... When it's Dry why the hell it has so much of gravy and Katta Special was also full of coconut gravy... No taste of authentic Malvani Masala in any of the dishes... Kindly stop using the word Malvan in ur name cos it's nowhere near to Malvani Cuisine...

Just by the name of Malvani Pomfret fish thali your stomach works a little harder to make room and accomodate the Malvani delicacies, but in this restaurant Malvani taste was hard to find. Need to improve the taste and the oil they use... Even the sol kadhi had the coconut oil smell.

When it comes to me and my whole family thinking about non veg food near us it's always malvan katta. The food is fabulous 👌. Quality and price of the food is also good. All my friends and family love going there.

I order three items before adding a review. Unfortunately for this hotel all three items were substandard. I ordered Tisrya sukha, tisrya masala, kolambi masala and bombil fry. Was disappointed with all options. I don't think they know what Malwani cuisine is. The items that they delivered to me were definitely not Malwani style. The gravy had less coconut and more of water. Also Malwani cusine is spicy, but the food delivered was not at all spicy. I may never order from here in the future.

I love the Mutton Thai and Kolambi Masala. The portion size is good for a Thali and it's worth the price. They have a friendly staff who would recommend you various types of dishes. If you want to avoid waiting in a queue, you need to walk-in early, as it's completely based on first come basis.<br/><br/>If you want to have an Authentic Malvani meal then Malvan Katta is the Place.

One of the cheapest and best places for malwani places in town. You might undermine the taste from the ambience but that would just be judging the book by its cover. I ordered the surmai and promphet thali and also the prawns thick gravy.<br/>The prawns gravy is so flavourful. It will actually overpower everything you've eaten prior.

What kind of Malvan Katta is this? Which do not serve Solkadhi. Simple restaurant with nice food. Soul curry was awesome and just perfect in taste. Fishes were fresh and crisp fried. Loved chicken wade as well. Value for money!

The Liver masala was blank no flavors in it as per malvani food standards ! The Liver was not fresh nor finely cooked ! The quantity was okok not great and the gravy was supremely watery ! Thank you

This place is just near the udipi vihar restaurant which is known for its malvani food. I have mostly ordered the mutton and chicken masala. Sometimes it turns out to be too spicy to eat, But overall their food is good. That's why I have given them 3/5.

One of the best Crab Thali's I have ever had in Goregaon! Next, to Udipi, this small restaurant is a jewel of a food spot. Other than the thalis, the Bombil fry and Prawns Sukka are incredibly delicious and worth giving a shot.

Let me start with the word "Awesome" I'm sure we are well versed with the saying 'never judge a book by its cover' This place stands true for this wise old saying. I looked at this place from outside and it looked like a very small roadside hotel hence was skeptical to step in. However I was totally bowled over with their food. It just took my taste buds to a different world. We had surmai thali, komdi vade and crabs. All three had different taste and they were mouth smacking. A nice & pocket friendly option near to the Goregaon east station. A simple no frills joint, Malvani Katta is very close to the famous 'Satkar Rice Plate'. They have just about 6-7 tables, but that is more than enough as the food is served quickly and you might also have to share the table with other patrons. I normally go their to have their typical Malvani ' Sukkha Chicken Thali. <br/><br/>Starters:<br/><br/>Bombil Fry- Bombil also known as 'Bombay Duck' is one my favorite malvani starters wherever i go and thankfully this place did not disappoint me . Shallow fried crispy Bombil fry in rawa (semolina coating) with the green chutney was a perfect way to start the meal.<br/><br/>Surmai Fry- The decent sized shallow fried Surmai pc with green chutney. Typical Malvani rawa fried batter.<br/><br/>Chicken Sukkha Thali - The reason why i like to have the sukkha chicken here than Satkar is becoz of the spices. The chicken is as called in marathi 'Jhanjhaneet' i.e spicy.The Malvani spices used to prepare the thick gravy goes perfectly with Kombd wade and rice.<br/><br/>Kombdi Vade (Malvani Vade) - Hot pipping Malvani vade now known as the Kombdi vade as it perfectly fits with the Chicken Curry.<br/><br/>Sol Kadi - Made of Coconut Milk & Kokam, No Konkani / Malvani meal is complete without the Sol kadi. When your best friend asked you for a lunch by weekend, you can't say No to him. It's a small place serving Malwani cuisine. Located in Goregaon East. <br/><br/>It was my first time here and quite frankly I was disappointed as well. The restaurant was fairly full. We settled quickly and placed our order for Bombil Fry, Surmai Fry, Chicken Sukka Fry and Chicken Thali. <br/><br/>Bombil Fry : It was a good starter. Crispy fried served with chutney, the batter is just right and it just falls each other like a ideal Bombil Fry should be. I couldn't get enough of it actually. <br/><br/>Surmai Fry : Surmai Fry was good but a little more marination would have made it better. Also, Surmai was little undercooked which is not a good sign. <br/><br/>Chicken : I personally feel it's not Malwani spices. I missed the punch of the food. Though cooked well but it wasn't upto the mark in terms of taste and flavor.<br/><br/>Sol Kari : It was soul of the meal, very nice and refreshing. <br/><br/>Overall, strictly Okay experience for me. Instead of this place, I would definitely go to nearby Satkar for the same food with the same price. <br/><br/>

A great discovery for those who are looking for taste rather than ambience. Simple, no frills basic Malvani Food. The Gauti (Country) Chicken was genuinely Desi. The Teesriya (Clam) fry was better than the extra oily and spicy Sukka. The medium size pomfret just right for one person. Tuck it in with Rice Bhakri and those who can afford the extra calories - the Vadas. Seal the deal with a glass of Sol Kadi to appease the conscience.

i don't want to give a single star but cant help. Just ordered food from here, wanted to taste the malwani food. But the food was horrible. The prawns were unclean and the fish was dry and not fresh. How can you expect us to eat salt less food. We don't like to waste food but couldn't eat and couldn't give it to someone to eat. I wound strongly recommend not to order or visit this place.

This little restaurant is amazing by all means. I go there very often. It's a small, non ac place but always clean and free of stink. Their crab masala thali and bombil fry are my favourites to recommend. They also have amazing prawns, tisrya etc. The best part about having fish thali is the sol kadi, a delicious yet digestive drink, and this restaurant has one of the best sol kadis ever! Go on, give this one a try, and trust me, you won't regret it!

Satkar is the prime Malvani restaurant in the area, Malvan Katta is the "other" one<br/><br/>The thing is, Malvan Katta, lacks consistency in both quality and taste, sometimes quantity<br/><br/>Sometimes the food is finger licking good, sometimes you just wanna wash off your hands and leave<br/>The liver fry is great example, its sometimes hard as rock and powdery interior and the other times a work of art<br/><br/>Just today, i ordered a mutton thali, everything was piping hot except for the dry mutton, on bringing it to their notice, the same was reheated and served<br/><br/>My point being, this place has its moments, and on the whole, its a hit or miss, a miss more often<br/><br/>Quick fact: The owner used to work at Satkar until he had a spat with the management and started his own damn place!

One of the best places to go for if you love malavni food. A very tiny place located in goregoan east easy to miss and nothing fancy when it comes to decor or seating,simple and clean. I am very picky about eating sea food outside and this place serves the freshest fish. Surmai , mandeli , prawns , pomfret all are amazing. The fish thali include a decent sized fried fish and a piece of fish in gravy, roti and rice.Do order their dry chicken thali. They serve their food with a orange garlic chutney which is amazing. Their kokum sherbet is also good. The place can get pretty crowded sometimes and you might end up sharing a table with someone. <br/><br/>P.s theres no ac and its a very cramped place , combined with the kitchen being right there with almost no exhaust dont visit during summers.

Great joint for coastal food. Must try Prawn Pulao, Bombil Fry and Chicken Sukkha. Reasonably priced compared to other restaurant chains. Go Fish!!

Nice and tasty Malwani food. Among all the Malwani restaurants i have been to in Mumbai this one is the most pocket friendly and value for money restaurant. Ordered a surmai and mushi thali. The pompfret fry was superb and so was the bombil fry. Meal for 2 costed around 700rs. <br/>Please do not expect anything fancy here but its clean and tidy place to eat.

A very simple place near goregaon station. Its not very noticeable as its very small and unassuming. This is similar to your satkar, malwan samudra and similar place minus the hype. The price is extremely reasonable. Even though the place is not air conditioned, its reasonably hygienic.<br/>Coming to the food. We stuck to sea food here as from my past experience in similar place, one should never try anything else you will be disappointed.<br/>The various fish frys that they serve tastes the same. We ordered 4 to 5 fishes and couldn't really make out the difference. Its deep fried fish and lacks any kind of flavour/seasoning. We tried the prawns masals, it was spicy but tasty and there was no shortage of prawns in it. The prawns pulav..well the prawns in the pulav was well cooked but the rice lacked the required flavour.<br/>Its a simple place and you can try it out once if you are in the area. Good cheap option for home delivery for people staying near by. Would definitely give this place a thumbs up over the other over hyped malvan restaurants

Damn good place..... Food is to die for 😍😍...bombing fry is my personal favorite... Ate mandeli for first time in my life blown away...definitely a must try must visit place once in you life

This is the place if you want to eat authentic home made flavours of Malvan. <br/><br/>Apart from regular thalis, I would highly recommend kolambi-bhat (prawns rice).

For all the Non vegetarian ppl this the best place to dine in. Whether it is a Malvani Fish or Chicken Thali they are tasty, juicy, tender and fresh. When it comes to taste its like paisa vasol in other words "mouth watering delicious..!!" Ambience is simple and hygien & service is quick. I m loving it....!! :)

Mouth watering typical malvani taste food. Always enjoy the food here especially fish items and sukkha chicken. The seating is cramped though.

Nice economical and good hotel for malvani wfish thali with a solkadi...i persinally like solkadi most and its like a home made food with lots of malvani masala and coconut.

Simple and quiet pace with an old days charm. The food here is typically Maharashtrian-Malwani with great flavours from the state. The thali here is a complete meal.

Horrible food, just horrible food and on top of that they are so close to satkar rice plate house which serves amazing malvani cuisine, i had ordered delivery soon after they opened and we threw the food coz it was that bad. Not recommended at all.

Love Their Seafood .. The Owner Is A Friendly Guy Who Earlier Was At Satkar.. Parking Is Not A Problem Here Even Though It's On The Main Road.. Great To Go For A Quick Lunch.. Their Malvani Thaali Is Especially Great

Best hotel for eating authentic Konkani food the best part is that is so close to authentic that they even server rice chapati a best have there <br/>Try all the thali there my favourite are the all fish , chicken and prawns <br/><br/>And don't forget to have there sol kadi awesomeness at its best !!!

Very near to my house could be one reason but I have almost tried each and every of your delicacy - but the thing to vouch is for certainly the stuffed Bombay duck. While it is an art to stuff bombil like that, it is even nice the speed at which they do it. The Teesrya, sukka mutton, Sol kadi, their fishes (pompfret , bangda, surmai) although slightly greasy taste yummy. Go for it but please leave your calorie count behind. <br/>The ambience is simple and homely. <br/><br/>Go/no go meter: Go if you are a malavani food fan and don't care much for ambience. Complete value for money.

Service<br/>Therefore I would rate this place 3.5<br/>3 for food and .5for service<br/>Tasty food, with lil extra oil. So if you are not conscious about calorie, cholesterol, etc then food is awesome.<br/>Can do better with service and the ambiance<br/>
