Review Balaji Idli House - Mumbai

Bhavin Shah
A huge variety of idlis and dosas is what is the speciality of this place. Ambience is decent and is A two storey outlets. Both Air conditioned. The staff is helpful and police and systematic. Rates are reasonable and has great variety for South Indian dishes. They serve punjabi dishes as well but I haven't tasted it yet. The only reason I have not given it a 5 star is the service is a little slow. They take lot of time to serve the food once you have order. I suggest to give it a try. 🖐

One word review : Awesome . Great place , literally it will make you think " I never thought idli can be that interesting " & The taste is also awesome Superb in every aspect , the prices are a bit high but the quality and taste compensates the pinch in pocket 😍

Balaji Idli house is famous for its variety of idlis in South Indian Style (from Kanchipuram to Udipi) and also Idlis with Chinese and Punjabi twist. You can also get other south Indian food like dosas nd medu wadas and uttappas in a large variety of preparations.

Good Cook & they are pioneers in South Indian Cousins

Nice & tasty food....all idli items are just wow
Namrata Gadge
They have variety of food items . I ordered cheese pakoda which is exactly expectations vs reality. I expect some juicy cheese pakoda but they just fry solid cheese cubes with besan batter and serve it and also a pavbhaji is not that good but it's okok type. But veg crispy and cheese sandwich balances my mood. Cleanliness and ambience is quite good and their service is also remarkable. They have AC option too. It's cost basically 200-300 0er person.

I have tried Idli, sambar vada and upma. Must say the upma is really good. It is served with Sambar and Coconut chutney. Idli is nice but I have tried better idli than this. Sambar Vada is not oily. Overall it’s a good place for South Indian food specially if you’re looking option for breakfast
Rushabh Vipani
Taste of the food is good, apart from the tasty Dosa's the typical south Indian item like appam and kurma were also very good. There is unlimited pouring of chutneys and sambhar. Price is also reasonable. Space is a bit congested for bigger groups.
Sachin Singh
Awesome idli is serverd here. Price is little bit high but the taste and quality is maintained well. Multi varaties of South Indian dish is served.
Aashay Sankpal
superb food so many varities of idili and also dosa. it's fresh and tasty. very nice ambience clean. I prefer to eat here after I visit Rcity mall as it is very close to the mall. instead of waiting for a seat in the mall and spending so much money. I eat in 1/3 of the amount in Balaji idili house plus it's more tasty then any one from the food court.

Service is not that much good. Quality n quantity n taste is ok.

The name of the restaurant is a South Indian name no? But cooks must be Marathi lolz. I hv never seen anyone spooling dosa so so so so badly. I could feel the rava uncooked!! Such a disappointment. The South Indian taste overall is horrible
Paresh Zan
Vada sambar was not great...but idli was superb, soft & delicious

They have a huge variety of idli with different flavours to choose from. The space is little though. Its a small shop and can be a little difficult to spot. The staff is prompt and good.

Best dosa place in ghatkopar . The dosa's are really crispy and good in taste. The taste of chutneys is really amazing. They have variety of options in dosa's .Dosa lovers should try this place for once.

Balaji idli house is located at Ghatkopar and have their branches situated all around Mumbai. They are really famous for their idlis and other south Indian cuisine. The restaurant is an AC restaurant and has good service as well. I would recommend everyone to especially try their different varieties in idli.<br/>Dish in the picture:<br/>Chilli garlic idli

One of the best Dosa places in ghatkoper. <br/>Crispy at the same time soft dosas. With incredibly amazing chutneys. Was here before a meeting and indeed loved it. Also the coffee is something that you should have. <br/>Me.Rahul (the manager) is quite helpful and hospital too. Loved the over all experience. Must try

This was online order and Packed properly as i attached the pictures. I usually don't prefer dosa to order but i tried this.<br/><br/>Ordered; Udipi Masala Dosa<br/><br/>Dosa was Big and Flavoured with Potato sabji, You can expect more in normal masala dosa. Their Sambhar was full of awesomeness.

Balaji idli house is good restaurant when it comes to some authentic South Indian food. You can get some great food items in menu like Idli,Medu Vada,Appam and many more vegetarian dishes. Also during Lunch time they serve veg Thali which is quite sufficient for single people. You can easily share that thali between 2 people.Do try if you are nearby

Balaji idli house is one of the place where you can Hogg on South Indian food and get ride of some temporary cravings.<br/>Located on lbs road, Ghatkopar.<br/>Ambience is decent and has two sitting one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The waiters are very helpful and systematic.<br/><br/>We tried<br/>-Idli plate<br/>-vada plate<br/>-Idli vada plate<br/>-Mysore rava soda<br/>-Idli platter<br/>-Gulabjaam<br/><br/>•Idlis here are very soft and Wada here are very crunchy. The sambhar is very tasty and the chutney has some South Indian flavour which tastes nice.<br/><br/>•Mysore Masala rava dosa is crunchy and soft at the same time, the masala which is the potato and onion bhaji has lots of onion and is typical South Indian bhaji.<br/><br/>•Balaji Special idli platter includes 5 different types of idlis with their 2 chutneys and sambhar. This is one of the best idli platter ever had. Must try breakfast thing!<br/><br/>•Gulabjaam are garnished with pistachio and are soft and served hot<br/><br/>Reasonable place and warm place to get in for breakfast but they also serve lunch and dinner Thalis and bhaji roti and many more

ordered food for my grandparents however the delivered medu wada was very salty. stayed hungry, money waste :(

I had been a very frequent customer and used to have a fantastic experience "until today". ENTIRE FOOD SERVED WAS STALE. On informing waiter came up with a lame reason that Dosa had more soda, however, "he had to agree that chutney was so bad that the restaurant had to throw away entire stock of chutney". <br/><br/>I went upto the cashier and just put it to his notice that food was stale; I was surprised that he was not at all ready to accept the mistake where his waiter himself agreed on food not being good.<br/><br/>They have excellent variety of food, "but they won't mind compromising on your health" by serving stale food. I agree that in Mumbai food hygiene is a bit concern to some extent, however, stale food is something totally unacceptable.<br/><br/>Beware guys! This branch is just not worth the visit, as its management has no concern at all about customers health!!

Very near to my office so i am a regular visitor here....they serve really good south indian food....masala uttapam, mysore masala, medu vada are good....upma is a must try here....one of the best south indian food in ghatkopar for sure....

The food was not good or tasty. I had ordered Mysore kottu idli, Dindigul Thalapakkatu idli and Cheese sandwich uttapam. The dindigul idli was worse with too much biryani masala garnished over it. It gave a very pungent smell and flavour of the masala and was difficult to eat. The Mysore Kottu idli was a bit better than the dindigul one but the problem with both these dishes was that due to the heavy garnishing of gravies, the main dish, i.e, the idli got lost in it and was hardly recognizable taste wise. The cheese sandwich uttapam was the saving grace which was a bit better than the two idli dishes but nothing spectacular. The fillings of vegetables put inside it were not minced properly but were in the form of big uncut pieces which spoiled the overall taste. <br/><br/>Overall, I would not order anything again from this eatery. It has many new type of unheard varieties on it's menu but it fails to deliver on the taste front and instead serves bland food.

Mini crispy idli with mulgoppdi poweder chutney is good option for idli or non-idli lover..it was awesome 😋😋😍<br/><br/>Corporate thali is okay okay...<br/><br/>Not satisfied with service...they r not abbl to provide cold drinking watr😣
Ammad Food Critic
Food is OK. Ambience is Ok. You can always smell spices in the restaurant which I think they need to ventilate better. Food options are good. Corporate thali is good. Compact place. Car parking is an issue. Not expensive but should be serving regular food at regular price. Decent one!
Hetal Gutka
Good chutney. But need to tell them to make it less spicy.

Ordered Munagapodi idli and steam idli and poori. The idlis were very hard to chew. Sambhar was watery and didn't taste good. Chutney was watery too. Pooris were very bad. Had a disaster experience here.

Nice place on a busy street with offices nearby.<br/>Food was great.<br/><br/>I felt quantity of coconut chatni was bit less.<br/><br/>Service was good. Serving Smoking hot dish is what I liked. <br/><br/>Taste was good. Idli was soft n fluffy. <br/><br/>Pricing is affordable.<br/><br/>Variety of south Indian food (Some of dishes never heard) . Also has decent north indian cuisines.<br/>Had ordered Idli Vada Sambhar. Served with Sambhar, coconut chatni & garlic chatni. <br/><br/>Advance to management : Include digital wallets for payment. <br/><br/>Visiting again : Probably yes (If in this area) <br/>

Balaji Idli House has been serving South Indian cuisine for a long time in Mumbai now. Although they can't match up to the South Indian richness in terms of flavor, aroma, and servings; they do seem to not fail so bad at it.<br/><br/>Being really close to my house, BIH has been one of my go-to places for Sunday lunches. Sundays are the days when they serve special executive lunch that comprises of the following parts. Here is a short and sweet review:<br/><br/>1) SAMBAR<br/>The sambar could have been done better. Rather it tastes like an amalgamation of the all the market-found masala packets with water. However, when hot, you do not hate it that much. But feels like a machine made delicacy for sure.<br/><br/>2) RASAM<br/>This is brilliant! One of the best RASAMs I have had in Bombay after Dakshin in Juhu. <br/><br/>3) PARUPPU<br/>This was surprisingly great too. The burnt curry leaves added an extra punch to the Paruppu.<br/><br/>4) AVIYAL<br/>Okay-sh<br/><br/>5) POORI<br/>You can choose between Neer Dosa, Poori, and Chapati. The Neer Dosa is better as an accompaniment than the rest.<br/><br/>6) KHEER<br/>Not worth much praise. <br/><br/>7) CURD RICE<br/>Okay<br/><br/>8) PANEER MASALA<br/>Just like the ones served up in the Udupis and the Shiv Sagars<br/><br/>9) SHEERA<br/>Missable<br/><br/>10) BONDA GRAVY<br/>This was average too.<br/><br/>11) DAL<br/>The Dal is something that stole my heart completely. Seasoned with coriander, curry leaves and tomato it served up as the right partner to the rice served.<br/><br/>12) CHAAS<br/>I love Chaas as long as there is some coriander in it. This one had it and I came home happy.

Boasted to be the best place for Dosai and other south indian stuffs. All the dishes are quite expensive. I ordered something called Iyer Masala Dosai - and i did not find anything special in that!<br/>The coconut milk with aappam was good. <br/><br/>Idli House - Not my cup of tea sorry.
Aniket Kuwar
This is a very small but authentic restaurant. <br/>Sitting quite congested, yes but good to eat.<br/>We ordered corporate thali.<br/>Puri was delicious with good size and less oil. All vegies were good. Pineapple sheera was not upto the mark. Expect better and authentic taste as far as desert is considered.<br/>Need to improve the quality of rice. <br/>They don't have options for lemon rice or others.<br/>Cutleries used are okay and typical south Indian style, except chass that they gave.<br/>Over all very good one can easily come to enjoy real taste of south.<br/>Little bit high on pockets, but worth. <br/>Quantity very much satisfying.<br/>No additional taxes are lieved, prices on menu card are inclusive.<br/>Parking would be the problem, hence take care, else come by cab or Rik.

This place serves literally the BEST SOUTH INDIAN FOOD I've ever had!!!<br/>A fusion of South Indian food with Italian, Chinese and Indian tastes, perfectly blended into each other. Every thing here is mouth watering and delicious ❤️<br/>We tried- Chinese idli sizzler, Cheese rava dosa, Manchurian dosa, Chilli Garlic Idli out of which,<br/>Chilli Garlic Idli- The Spicy idli's mixed with finely chopped garlic which complements each other well is a must try dish here (5/5)<br/>Chinese Idli sizzler- Deep fried onions and capsicum when mixed with Idli, not the regular one but an idli cooked with all the chinese sauces tastes amazing when mixed together (5/5)<br/>Cheese rava dosa- like all other rava dosa's, this was crispy and spicy at the same time! (4/5)<br/>Manchurian dosa- Chinese manchurian balls cut into pieces and put inside a dosa, serves as an amazing dish for chinese lovers. (3.5/5)<br/>Ambience- the ambience here is very simple and peaceful upstairs, and clean at the same time.<br/>

It was an awesome place for delivery terribly gone wrong ... Hate to see places who deliver good food going wrong mainly due to human resource issues...Grrrr..

This restaurant has some nice options in pure vegetarian food. Dominated in South Indian dishes. Here Paneer chilli dosa and chilli idli are worth a try.

This is the place where my Sunday morning breakfast comes from, like every week. Being a south Indian and staying a few metres away, it will be a crime to leave it unexplored. A nice south Indian eatery will excellent value for money menu, and surprisingly an extensive one. Their chutneys deserve a special mention and when you order for dosas/idlies, it comes with two kinds of fresh chutneys. When you're there, please try their Madras masala dosas.
Vicky
Its a clean , hygenic south indian joint with some good variety of jain food.<br/><br/>Taste is one of the best...apart from south indian...they serve good pav bhaji...biryani and thali... seating is nice...staff is well trained
Siddhesh Sasane
Very bad experience been regular customer to Balaji Idli house (opp. Shreyas cinema) treatment was not expected . They have mentioned paneer in thali but not provided when we asked for it they said that it won't be given when called up for manager he replied in rude tone that menu changes daily and he has never seen in his life that daily paneer is severed in thali .<br/>When the menu in the attached picture says in a thali paneer is included than how can someone refuse to give when asked for it after mentioning it in the menu.<br/>Hand-wash liquid kept is of low quality which cause infection .<br/>Owner or so called concern person must look into this and get a better trained staff thought with basic manners and prefer better product for hygiene.<br/>

Loved your concept of varieties of sizzlers. I love your jain pav bhaji because that's how it needs to be prepared. Come up with more sizzlers if possible. Slow service though.

Super Authentic....Missing the main  cook who got transferred to kandivali outlet to try andhra style curry with appam made with soyabean kheema.

We placed order today from balaji idli house for 8 plates of idli and 8 plates of wada the food was good. But quantity of sambar was less. We further ordered 4 plates of biryani. Food was delivered in time. Place is not that great. But food was tasty.
Arunima Goswami
Great food..efficitent service. Being hardcore non vegetarian have actually started enjoying South Indian platter because of Balaji. Especially the butter idli and rava dosa..a must try

Balaji Idli House is those nice places to grab a quick bite while on a busy schedule. The ambiance too is neat and clean, the service is good and the rates are pocket friendly. I have tried out their Sandwiches, Pav Bhaji and my all time Udipi favorites, Idli Sambhar, Masala Dosa, etc. Thee food here is good but could definitely be better. I love the Chutney served with the dishes but the sambar is a bit too watery for me. Overall a great place for a quick meal.
Sumaira Shaikh
Ordered steam idli and medu wada today for breakfast through zomato app..idli was good as usual but the medu wada was stale and refried. When I called them regarding that the person talking to me did not accept that and disconnected the call even while I was speaking. Not going to order again from them neither will recommend them to anybody like I used to do.
Vipul Goel
I have ordered a lot of times from this place and it never disappoints. South Indian food is quite good. Must try are their Utappam, Neer Dosa, Appam etc, have felt all South Indian menu to be good. Is not costly as well. Good for ordering food
Ravi Sharma
This Sunday morning happened to visit this place with my office colleagues for breakfast. Ambience wise its good and well maintained and has a/c as well as non a/c section. It basically serves pure veg South Indian dishes and also serves south indian thali at a very cheaper rate. Overall food is tasty particularly sambhar and rasam. We ordered Steam Idli, Rasam Wada, Appam with Stew (the Stew was little more thick), Upma and finally ended with madras filter coffee. Although food was good, I give 3/5 mainly because service was very slow even when there was no crowd in the morning time.
Sneha Pande
i visited last week..loved d food n quantity which they offer..v hve ordered idli chilli , paneer achari, neer dosa, masala chai n butter milk..my most fav was neer dosa..will surely visit soon to try their thaali..👍🏼

Balaji offers decent south Indian food. I primarily judge any south Indian food joint by it's sambhar and usually it's a clear yum or yuck. Balaji offered decent sambhar, inclined more on yum side, it wasn't too watery. Uttappam was well prepared and dosa/ idli were nice too
Clyde Pereira
have been eating at his placr almore every 2 days but recently found the food quality very stale. On mentioning to a black balding man behind the counter in the morning i was surprised to hear an arrogant man who was yelling of you want to eat here eat or dont. One thing for i will not be going back here even if they start serving quality food again. They do need to have some courteous people in charge.

This place is a hidden gem in Mumbai. I've been going here since its inception since its right across my home and a savior when mom dad are out of town. I had always been a big fan of ramashrey and madras cafe but this place totally changed my mind.<br/><br/>If you like exploring new places and love south Indian food<br/>They serve authentic south Indian right to your table.<br/>Must try their mulgapodi idli, idli chilly and everything their waiters recommend. They are well trained and know exactly what they serve.<br/>

I'm always surprised by the incessant chorus of foodies that hold Matunga as the only legitimate place for South Indian cuisine.<br/><br/>"Ram Ashray"<br/>"Manis Lunch Home"<br/>"Cafe Madras"<br/><br/>These voices cry in unison. I appreciate there is certainly a "network" effect for restaurants. Having multiple South Indian restaurants in the same locality seems to raise standards and increase competition, which given their proximity is so visible. However truly great restaurants stand alone, confident in their fare and knowing people will travel from anywhere to find them. <br/><br/>It reminds me of an imaginary scene where "the World's Most Important Food" Critic sits on a throne before eager restaurateurs and waiters. <br/><br/>"How are we to win your custom, Your Highness"<br/><br/>The crowd cries with supposed answers<br/><br/>"Tasting menus"<br/>"Foam"<br/>"Molecular Gastronomy"<br/>"Escoffier Classics"<br/>"Delicious food, surely?"<br/><br/>"No" the Most Important Food Critic replies.<br/><br/>"Good service"<br/>"Candles on the table"<br/>"Finger bowls"<br/>"Free offers"<br/><br/>Oh dear, they just don't get it, the Most Important Food Critic thinks. <br/><br/>Then a lone Restaurateur crowd shouts out:<br/><br/>"I am not to win your custom, I am the Prize and you must find me"<br/><br/>There is silence amongst his peers, who hold their breath.<br/><br/>The Most Important Food Critic pauses for a moment and then smiles with such gleeful radiance.<br/><br/>"Yes he is the one" he exclaims.<br/><br/>Balaji house is not in this great category of restaurants yet but it is a wothwhile and unique experience in Ghatkopar West which is not known for South Indian food. The restaurant is quiet even on a Sunday when I pitch up with fellow comrades. It's a no thrills place located at the bottom of LBS Marg but the food for the most part is commendable.<br/><br/>Idli in Masala Dahi is a great warm-up. The tart curd sauce envelops the courser soft idli in a truly moreish dish. <br/><br/>The Mysore Masala Dosa comes steaming hot (finally someone who understands that luke warm food is nearly as bad as someone with a limp handshake!) They have stuffed the dosa to the brim with soft potato and spicy red paste. The grated coconut is a nice flourish on top. My dining partner barely manages to finish a quarter of hers, which gives an indication of how generous the portion is.<br/><br/>The vegetable and appam main course speaks more to North Indian cuisine, although the faintest hint of coconut milk is a helpful reminder of the South. The appam is satisfactory although has to be peeled like wallpaper from the banana leaf it is served on. The sweet lassi on the side is a touch too sour.<br/><br/>These couple of niggles aside, Balaji stands out from the crowd in Ghatkopar West for fast, casual South Indian food. <br/><br/>AA Connoisseur

Perfect south indian hotel, lovely food, properly cooked And presented, idli chilly sizzler is best among all worth a try , thali is very filling, bhaji dosa and idlis are perfectly cooked very soft.

Misleading menu. Ordered for madrasi fried idli that was not fried at all. Potato cheese dosa mainly had grated potato giving it the appearance of cheese.

Good food, good price and quick service! Tried the idli platter and it was amazing. They serve the tastiest sambhar I've ever had in Mumbai. Been here a couple of times, never bored and never disappointed. Oh and I cannot forget to mention, the staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Amaaaazing idlis. Soft and buttery. We called for neer dosa and korma. I am not a fan of neer dosa. But the korma was out of the world. The chutney is nice and thick. I have only ordered food. Never been to the place.

We had been to this place not for breakfast or snacks, but for lunch! And the place doesn't fail you even if there is only one type of dish. This place is a must visit if you are craving for authentic south dishes. Located just ahead of R city mall on the opposite road, it is easy to spot. Being compact in size, the tables are arranged very well. We ordered lemon rice, Andhra idli and  Ghee podi roast dosa. The dishes were good and tasted yummy! One could feel the authenticity of the dishes. Staff were very generous and friendly in helping us with our order. This place is a must visit atleast once just to experience their authentic south dishes.

I was visit today food is OK.but staff is very rude . .Punjabi food is so so.South indian food is.good.waiter Mr Nepali Singh is very high temper.

It's a small place with limited seating. However, it surprises you with great food. Though a bit on the expensive side, but it's worth it. My all time favourites are Masala Paniyaram, Kerela Mallipuram with Appam. The filter coffee is good too. Staff is friendly. Good for takeaway as well, very nicely packed.<br/>Another instance was when we ordered a Vegetable Butter Uttapam, was not fresh n tasted bad. They were courteous enough to give us a separate item n gave us balance refund.
Ajit Balgi
Love this place. Don't know why is rated so low. It has a great selection of idlis and dosas and good portion sizes. Yes for those wanting their idlis high on lentils this one is on rice. Good quality food and great service. Try their humongous cheese garlic paper roast, madras fried idlis ,idlis in curd based gravy and more. Rasam is worth a try however it is a little away from the classic.

Experience with this hotel wasn't so good. Had ordered for Pav Bhaji but was served with Poori Bhaji And was forced to accept the order. After few arguments my order was been delivered to me. Quantity of bhaji was sufficient, even taste was also fine but what annoyed me was the food color stains that left its mark on my hand after eating pav bhaji. Overall wasn't happy with food and services provided.

Have been there multiple times and this place is really great for south indian food. Service is really fast and staff is courteos. Their masala chai and filter coffee is also great.

I've been to this place's ghatkopar East Branch n have been it's fan for years especially for sri Lankan idli.<br/><br/>I knew about the new outlet in ghatkopar West n gave my first visit very recently. The place has got a facelift from its ghatkopar East counterpart with AC n better seating & space.<br/><br/>As it was lunch time I gave a try to there corporate thali that's available only between 12-4:00 PM. To my surprise I was given so much of food that I'd never expect for thali priced for RS. 120.<br/><br/>Also the food tasted really well. I'll surely give this place another visit when needed. Service is where I think they can improve upon, waiters here have a lax behavior..
Vishal Dharmawat
Have been here many times and the south Indian food is delicious.<br/>The review for service is a mixed one as sometimes it is great but sometimes you wish you had opted for some other place instead!
Rishabh Khemuka
Small cozy place and has got a nice look. The place will be different for the people who don't eat much of south Indian food as it has a lot of variety. For instance, we ordered for pav bhaji dosa, paneer chatpata dosa then powdered mini crispy idli, etc and the food was new for me and it actually tasted really good, though it was only bhaji in a dosa but it still tasted good as had a south Indian touch to it. The dish that stood out was the mysore idli dish (sorry can't remember the actual name), the idli was cooked in mysore masala and it tasted best out of all the other ones. The place is worth visiting and reasonable. Place recommended. Enjoy. Cheers 😀😎😉

It's a good small outlet. Ambience is nice.. The servers will provide you how much ever sambar or chutneys you want with a smile.. But the food is not consistent and enjoyable... The magic ingredient is missing!!!

I have been to this place regularly simce it's adjoining to my work place. It's bang on the l.b.s. Marg ahead of shreyas cinema. It's a plain simple vanilla restaurant, a typical south indian attribute they carry- simple on ouside, quality on inside. The place has ground and a mezzanine and a seating capacity of approx 30-40 ppl, with each table at max seating 3 pax. So if ur a big crowd, u can avoid this place or be prepared to sit separately. The Ambience is simple - yellow light, clean nothing special there.<br/>The staff is courteous and are quick to take the order. The menu is really good, spread over varieties of idlis, disaster, uttapams and vegetables and rice. <br/>I decided to stick to my fav onion rava sada with less oil and chass ( buttermilk)to beat the Mumbai heat. The Chass was served in a jiffy while the dosa took like 7 mins. The dosa was good in size sufficient for 1 person and is served with 2 type chutney - coconut and garlic. The dosa was in minimal oil yet crispy. The best thing is the sambhar was piping hot..and with the chutneys they have an unlimited serving. The second serving of chutney was a bit dissappointing as it was served cold straight of the freezer which was a let down. The butter milk was average, nothing special to mention. All in a good sumptuous meal and at Rs. 130/-<br/>Food - 4/5 ( For the dosa) <br/>Portion - 4/5<br/>Service - 4/5<br/>Ambience - 3/5 <br/>Service - 5/5 <br/><br/>Recommended - If you have 20 mins and want to grab a tummy full meal this is the place to be, and try the less oil onion rava dosa and you won't regret it and the sambhar is delicious to accompany.

Its a small 4 table eatery.... nice ambience...people who like south indian cuisine would like this place....however if you only prefer eating mendu wada and dosa then this isnt the place for you...

After watching an early morning show, we decided to have breakfast and saw this outlet on the way... Should confess that the name attracts... Balaji "Idli House". <br/>It's a small neat outlet.<br/>They have a wide variety of south indian delights. <br/>We ordered a "Iyer" Masala Dosa, thinking that it would be something unique, but it was actually a Ghee masala dosa... Nothing more. But was nice n Crispy and the potato bhaaji was also tasty. The steam idli which my wife ordered was also quite good and so was the cheese sada dosa which we ordered for my kid. Also the Sambhar and two types of chutneys were excellent. The Tea was also good, typical south India types...<br/>Though little overpriced, the food quality is quite good. <br/>Meal for two would be around 300-400

Horrible service. Food came 45 minutes later. The staff was absolutely unresponsive to our questions and requests. Will never recommend it visit again. Food was average.

This one is a good option when you either have a budget constraint like I had due to last days of month or if you want to experiment something with your idlis. Didn't find the malayalee dishes too authentic but were no less in taste. So definitely would suggest if you are staying in areas around ghatkoper.

Authentic south Indian food and the service is great ! the quantity is also fulfilling. <br/>Toothsome filter coffee. <br/>The place will definitely satiate your hunger for south food.

Awesome place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their idlis are awesome and tasty. Don't forget to try the andhra style idli chilli, madras fried idli and butter garlic idli. The tea here is also really nice and goes well with idlis. Ambience is OK but it won't matter because the food is very good. If you are in a mood for Chinese, don't forget to try chilli garlic idli sizzler. <br/><br/>Overall, an awesome place to have a getaway from your daily boring meal. Really affordable too.

There are too many pseudo places masquerading as South Indian restaurants in Mumbai. This isn't one of those. Go here if you want to try some real flavours from the south.<br/><br/>The tragedy of modern Indian tastes is that there are high chances the people on the next table will ask for cheese pav bhaji. And sadly, even places like Balaji have to offer cheese pav bhaji to survive. Although, given their pricing, which is on the steeper side, they struggle for occupancy, especially given that there are much cheaper places nearby.<br/><br/>You are not compromising on quality here though. Try the chettinad and mallipuram curries. Try the appams. Try the rice puttu - steamed balls. <br/><br/>Don't expect great service. You will still want to come back, for just the food.
