Review Raj Mahal Restaurant - Mumbai

Yogesh Jamkhindikar
This happens to be one of the oldest hotels in Borivali. Its showing its age now but no compromise in food taste at all. It does not have any fancy show-off stuff but plain simple looks with great taste just like before in my opinion. We always ended up going late for dinner when around in that area & it has not disappointed us even once. Its nostalgic & brings back my childhood memories. Hope you keep doing the good work!

Raj Mahal truly impressed with its delicious and budget-friendly food. The flavors were exceptional, and the prices were reasonable, making it a delightful dining experience. Highly recommend!

This place is a really old veg restaurant n little old style Its at chandavarkar road,n its nearby borivali west stn Food is really affordable n tastes like home cooked food They dont have really fancy stuff, they serve indian, chinese cuisine but has good variety in it Talking about the ambience n dining experience,n staff so they really should renovate this place n make it atleast little bit good, currently not at all good, lights are too dim,AC hardly works, decor, paint n Ambience is zero Staff is really helpful Currently if you order from here then great but not worth going there n eating inspite of good n affordable food We love ordering chana masala, bhindi fry n other basic stuff Bhindi fry is my favourite 😍

When I read the review I had mix feelings. However the experience was superb. We were well greeted. We ordered MYSORE MASALA DOSA nd MEDU VADA to which I give a big applaud, after ages I had such authentic dosa and not to mention the sambhar which phenomenal. The staff was courteous, always smiling and when beyond. They go an extra mile for their service. The washroom is away from hotel but super clean. This hotel is all about spirit of Indian Hospitality.

Food quality and tast wise very good service is too fast and surrounding atmosphere was good

Fast service with a great variety of dishes . Didn't leave a single vegetable away from the plate and somehow made vegetable curry out of all of them . Great place to munch in for lunch or dinner or even evening snack. Go for it with an open mind , and big eyes to look for the favourite combination of veggies. Name of different dishes in the menu card is too smal ll so you may carry a magnifying glass to help you choose the dishes. Have fun...

Food is very good to taste and service is good. Quantity of food is much better. This is a place that is worth the money but don't expect any fancy ambience if you go here..

Wanted to try their Thali however enjoyed south Indian Breakfast instead 😁😁😁

A South Indian styled restaurant with its southern simplicity is located very close to borivali west railway station ( hardly 5 mins walk) ...
Seating arrangements are decent enough nothing fancy as it's located near station, busy most of the times and also for its affordable rates comparatively and polite staff!!
Now our main concern - Food!

In frame - Idli chilly

1) Idli Chilly - (4.5/5) I can surely say this is the best idli chilly I have had till date in any south indian restaurant! This dish was quite surprisingly good. The idlis weren't just tossed in butter unlike other places, it was coated in batter, fried and then tossed in the sauce with the veggies. Mildly spicy but a bit oily. The quantity is good for two people. A must try. You can combine it with any juice ( My suggestion is cocktail juice).πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»

Overall rating -4.5/5

Finally would say, thumbs up experience for all south indian food lovers, total value for money, would visit this place again post lockdown and shall post some more options to try πŸ‘πŸ»

Oldest Restaurant in Borivali west near to station. Pure veg restaurant, where you get snacks, lunch and dinner. Decent for restaurant for family, couples and friends. Though the look and ambience is too old type, but maintain the food. Rates are reasonable and quantity is also good enough. Quick service, waiters are humble. One must try: - South Indian dishes, Punjabi food, Pav Bhaji, Vegetable Cuttles, Lunch thali.
Overall nice restaurant to have food, if one can ignore the ambience.

Pocket friendly meal. Kind of historical ambience with sculpture photo frames . Walkable distance from borivali station. The hotel provides separate floor for ac rooms. Can spend a good family time here.
Manasi
One of the oldest Restaurant in Borivali. Nearby to borivali.infrastructure is too old not that fancy but Food is good in quality and with enough quantity too.
Punjabi dishes,Chinese,South Indian dishes even fast food everything is recommendable here.
They also have AC section separately and outdoor seating too.
Comparetively to other restaurants in that area you will find this one at reasonable cost.
Dr.Raonak
A nice family restaurant. We usually order the dosa or thali. Both are good. Try them if you visit this restaurant. Ambience is okay and service as well. Good for on spot plans with family.

This place is not same as used to be,I don't have problem with food but the service is very bad they take time to serve and when we questioned about the same they argued that they served within 9 mins from order and while I waited for more than 25 mins when I got my dish it was cold , I don't understand logic behind this. This happened with me twice I used to love this place from my childhood but now it is question about their poor service.
Shiva Purohit
This place is a good to go for people looking to have a decent experience of lunch or dinner with family or friends! The service is good food is worth the value.
I ll recommend the North Indian cuisine and pav bhaji. This restaurant is well managed. Do try it.

I have been eating from this restaurant for a long time and it is located at just a 5 minutes walking distance from Borivali railway station. Also, this one is a typical south Indian restaurant and hence you get south Indian food items the best here.

Now coming to the food we had ordered two plates of vegetable samosa (these guys also call it Patti samosa). The samosa is one of the finest here. It is stuffed with a sweet filling of Poha and small pieces of onion and the fried in oil as with a normal samosa. But the taste is definitely something unique. Also, the Pudina chutney that these guys serve with the samosa is simply awesome. Although a few years ago they used to stuff it with grated coconut filling which used to taste even better but maybe they started using this Poha due to cost.

Apart from this the Idli and medu vada they serve are pretty good and not to forget their Masala dosa and Mysore Masala dosa are simply delicious. All in all, a very good restaurant and you will definitely be satisfied with the taste of the food.

We had dinner here 2-3 weeks before. Its near to Borivali Station walkable 5 minutes from platform no 1 ending towards Virar and its on Chandavarkar Road. So we found it easily and had seats also. Its crowded as near to station. Here you can get boards inside with offer on Mini Thali and Full Veg Thali. One can try as price is less. We didnt try but sure will try once later. So we got inside and acquired place for us. So we are given water and menu cards. Its so fast though crowd there, this is great. Then one manager came to take our order and not service guy, caring and respecting customers. He asked us politely and in sweet words, really felt good for us. We asked for Paneer Kurma so he explained us will be little sweet so we told that we dont like sweet gravy so he himself told no worries we can make spicy if you want and also we agreeed with 1 butter naan and 1 naan. So we got order in 2-3 minutes, service is superfast ,+1. Then we wanted to try Dal Rice or Dal Khichadi whichever available. So we asked them for same. Same manager told us that he will check for Dal Rice if present separately or else we can be served with Dal Khichadi and we were fine with it. So he checked and told us with no delay that Dal Rice will be only in Thali and he really asked inside and we were watching him. So loyalty there in service. We had Dal Khichadi and its so awesome, fresh made, hot and well cooked with long grain rice with perfect quantity of Dal. Really enjoyed and it was really tasty. Also paneer kurma was great. Spicy, little sweet, creamy and soft paneer were tasting good. But we are not given with vegies inside Paneer Kurma so little bit doubtful about it. So we thinking its bymistake or they use to prepare like that only. This thing makes me to reduce half star in quality. But it doesnt effect overall as paneer kurma given to us by them was tasty and quantity was also good. Naan and butter naan were also good in quality and quantity. So now pricing, prices are also not much and reasonable as per quality and quantity. Now coming to ratings, +0.5 for quality, +1 for quantity, +1 for pricing, +1 for surrounding and ambiance, +1 for service and manager response and payments. So overall ratings come to 4.5 stars. So doing well Raj Mahal. Keep it up! Soon revisiting to try Thalis and other food items.

Thanks,
The Loyal Zomato Reviewer and Foodie
with Prachi Korgaonkar

My parents tried the thali from here and the food was pretty bad. The chana was not cooked. Plus it arrived really late. No flavor or taste to the food.

The place hasn't changed abit in all these years. Same ambiance, same interiors, same old dim/low light setting.

I ordered for rava masala dosa. The dosa was nice and crisp. The masala inside was perfect. The sambar was nice and warm with perfect spice but the chutney was super salty. The coffee was ok.

Service: Good.
Mitesh
Had their thali, really good, old fashioned style. Service really fast and friendly. Its good place to have good south Indian food. Try their thali its reasonable and good by taste
Ankit Salian
This is one of the oldest South Indian restaurant in Borivali West.
The space and ambience here is decent.
As this is known for its South Indian dishes, hence decided to try out spring masala dosa..
The dosa was much larger in size and cut into 7 pieces with good amount of masala and schezwan in it.. Taste wise it was also good and very heavy.. Sambhar was tasty but chutney was okayish..
Service here was good and crowd was modest..
Overall a good experience and nice place to try out for South Indian food lover's..
Samarth Oza
This is one of the oldest udipi hotels in Borivali area. Very reasonable in costing...hot and fresh food served quickly. Tasty south indian food. And not to forget , my first south indian thali was here and it was amazing. Would definitely go for the thali another time. Rest all is satisfactory
Bhagirath Pania
Service is really slow, food quantity is less, utensils are not clean. Do not order any soups as all are tasteless. If possible try other restaurants as there is no point visiting Rajmahal.

This restaurant has been here since a long time. It's an affordable place with a strategic location and the staff is very polite. The south Indian dishes are good here. My favourite is idli sambhar.
Kalyani Mane
If I had to rate this restaurant purely on the basis of what they originally standout to be I'd without a doubt give them 5/5
Their south Indian dishes are lip smacking and the Sambhar they serve is to die for..I could have it everyday!
I wish they strictly kept it as a south Indian restaurant and didn't serve chinese there..
Coming to the Chinese food served here now, Not really a fan ..especially manchurian gravy which was almost inedible
Amit Patil
Nice nice restaurant near borivali West station offering vegetarian food. Udpi dishes are very good. Their ac section is good. Evening time rush is good so better to be early.

28/03/2017

Food comes very very late. For every item we ordered we have to wait a hour. Its realy frustrating...!!! The food is average (not bad not very excellent). Rates are decent. Customer service is decent. The ambience is average. There is network issue in the A.C. room.

Nikhil Salian
This is a "no frills" kinda place serving Indian cuisine since many many years. The experts suggest judge a Udipi hotel by the taste of their sambhar, this place excels in the sambhar taste. They churn out the best of idlis, vadas, masala dosas, utthapas. For lunch, they make really tasty sabzis and rice items. All the vegetable curries are uniquely made( it's not one gravy fits all formula). They have a AC section which is a bit cramped. I prefer the outside open air sitting since the inner area is very dim lighted. The waiters are all experienced, they will never misguide you. They have good parking space for four wheelers and two wheelers. Service is fast and crisp and they leave no room for complain. Overall a great place to dine and have a healthy lunch/ dinner.

In the morning if you will go you will be getting the best service and good break fast and quick assistance but if you will go in night the disaster service and you will have to face the frustrated waiters.
Management is good bit due to waiters negligence 1 out of 5 is deducted.
Many times I visited in morning and we ordered many things like rava dosa , neer dosa, Mysore dosa, uttapa, upma, idli and medhuwada we loved the taste especially the chatni which is served is fabulous.
And where I visited in night I ordered biryani that could be mirchi biryani i guess( itna tikha tha i finished 4 bottles of limka) and also we ordered garlic bread so I guess we got open cheese and bunt garlic sandwich.
But for the same mark is not deducted it is deducted because the plates which they are using and the glasses are really boring and not at all happening you may feel that not to have typical old fashioned and upsetting.
The suggestion for management is kindly upgrade the service in evening and change the typical plating else all the time hotel is going good.

A very old restaurant...Very close to borivali station.
The place is little dark and there's always crowd. It's a good place to eat in the vegetarian zone of borivali.
The dosas I tried were good. Dahi wada wasn't up to the mark. Keeping in mind the location n proximity to the station and south Indian preference... It's a decent place.
Dhruv Maniar
The food is really good and it has very well behaved staff. This place would be doing great if Goragandhi weren't nearby; nevertheless, it can hold its own as far as South Indian food is concerned. I would recommend south Indian and Punjabi from here. Do not bother with the likes of pohe samose as they seem re re re re-fried. A very decent place overall.
Jaya Bachhuka Waskar
This is a very old restaurant and has not gone through makeover since ages. However due to its proximity from the station and the market, its always crowded. Dark clumsy place....still serves food in steel utensils....food slightly on the spicier side..good for south indian.
Prayag Pandya
This restaurant used to be my favourite dine-in in my childhood. However, the quality of the food has deteriorated over the period of time.

As far as food is concerned, cheese Pav Bhaji and Dal khichdi was my favourite.
Shreyas Sawant
Its location is its only boon for its working status.
For hygiene, its an average rating.
Do not go for any dish compromising of paneer. You might find it hard to disappointing.
Service is good which makes me increase the rating from 2.5 to 3.0
Economic cost of dishes.
AC section is already noisy, thanks to vintage AC they have.
Average south indian food taste. I would prefer Vrunda's Veg instead if my wallet is bit heavier.
One of the oldest Restaurants located at Borivali.. A Nice Place to Cut one's hunger ;)
Decent Staff Average Ambience.. Its almost filled be it any time of the day u enter..
Ordered : 1. Cheese Omelette.. 2. Neer Dosa..
Neer Dosa was a first try for me outside home.. Cheese omelette had a good amount of cheese.. Tasted Nice..Chutneys also tasted Good..
Neer Dosa was better than expected.. Chutneys were Tasty.. Cherry on the cake was the sweet coconut filling they provided.. It was the best of all ( Atlst for the one's who have a sweet craving..) Decent Service & Hygiene..
Overall worth a visit definitely :)

Rajmahal not palatial at all. We liked the Β Cashew curry ( Kaju Masala ) a bit and the naans were rubbery. Β Veg. Biryani was overcooked and more spicy than required. Filter coffee was ok. They need lot of efforts in cleanliness. Service was slow.

I have visited rajmahal sum years ago
Had gone to borivli for sum work n i saw dese resto so decided to dine there
Located 5 mins walking distance from borivali west station
It's pure veggie resto
Veri simple interiors n its quite spacious
Now they have started outdoor seating
I had visited the resto in aftrnun so wanted to have a complete meal so i ordered punjabi vegetables n roti ; jeera rice n dal makhni n then icecream
Everything was just tasty
I had a complete meal
Must go guys
I HV been to this restaurant since my childhood days, food quality esp southindian and northindian is as good as yester years, staff is courteous, rates are very low compare to taste, just they have to change their interior to upgrade there ratings, otherwise no complain or disappointment.
Sunny Vithlani
Quality of this place has dropped drastically. What use to be borivali's pride a decade ago is a big zero these days. Ambience is shabby and poorly lit. Service is bad but not more to complain because waiters are too old. Quality of food also not good. 2star rating only coz of good past.
Vinay
About 15 years ago raj mahal was the happening joint....where "ANNA" was the king, not the customer..... In those days,If you would complain, the reply that you would get is " khane ka hai toh khaao, nahi to jaao ".... Unfortunately for ANNA, and fortunately for the customer there are many new hot and happening, clean, hygenic eateries that they can choose....yes! Karma is a bitch.....

There are many hawkers outside borivali stn, in this case the hawker just moved indoors...
Shivam Naik
A Small Restaurant and Good Restaurant in Borivali west,Their South Indian Food Is Best And Their Sambhar Is Cherry On The Cake,Try Mysore Masala Dosa and Onion Utthappa.
Nikhil Jain
One of the best place to eat near Borivali station its light on pocket & rich in taste loved this place & the south Indian dishes are worth a try going to visit this place on regular basis.
Abhishek Pujari
I would recommend this place only for snacks or south indian dishes. Somewhat shabby and very poorly lit. Service is too slow. You already lose your appetite until food arrives. Visit this place on busy weekends. You will find a place to sit and chat as long as you want even when other outlets are full.

This place is such an ridiculous one of my friend wet here n had idli next day he was sufferring from dairia so guys if u want to go then go but make sure that u take dr appointment so that u get quick medical treatment

I and my wife whenever visited this place we just tried one item only every time and that is Onion Uttapa. I also liked their services as well. Nice place. It's one of the oldest restaurant in borivali and need some upgrade.
Ajay Golania
Visited this resto many times....punjaabi is good in taste and also cost is less...cheeze sandwich is alsoo good to try...if you want to spend less money and try normal food then go for itπŸ˜†
Neha Acharekar
Good food n ambience!! Love the south Indian food from here!! Also the pav bhaji :) service is also good.. Even price wise it is low as compared to odr hotels!
Nikhita Kini
The quality of this place has dropped drastically. What used to be borivali's favorite food joint is now visited by people who probably don't have the zomato app.
The service is bad. But I can't really complain because the waiters are really old. So you kind let them get away with it.
I've had veg Hakka noodles here and it was dripping in oil.
To make things worse, it was served on a dirty plate which was not even wiped properly.
We had the watermelon juice which was okay. But this place is so sad in terms of everything. It is just a disappointment!
Mitali Pitkar
Had been there for frnds bday party...good place...ambience is disappointing...
Tastes good....had veg crunchy...veg crispy....
In main course ....paneer tikka was good...overall thik thak

One of the oldest hotel of Borivali .. It serves all kind of food but my personal favourite is navaratan kurma and paper dosaaa..value for money !!
Preshita Chaurasiya
3 stars onli for ambiance and service

This is one of those restaurants were you'll enjoy good service but bad food.

The ambiance is good.

The only best thing is Dosa- masala dosa, mysore masala dosa, chole bhature and green salad.
Ankur Vyas
Normal udipi resto, it serves everything. Being in Gujju dominated area food is Lil sweet, but can be corrected by spicy on demand. Punjabi is decent, South Indian is good. Chinese Is OK! But it's affordable! A quick meal centre as u can say.
Gaurav Chavan
Good quantity.. Not too expensive.. Punjabi food is worth.
Staff if good.. But if you want best of services.. A man named dilip is the best... The most elderly person in here.. Just knows his work to the core.. (Y)
Akshay Panchal
Good punjabi food... nice quantity... its nice place for a normal meal... pocket friendly...big grilled sandwich bt must try any punjabi dish... its cool
Vishal Lohkare
Nice lacation and taste . quantity is very good. Indian dishes are nice.tried ice cream very delitious.

Located on Chandavarkar road ..5min walk from station ..restaurant has AC section on mezzanine floor
It serves standard Mumbai fare
Menu has everything from Punjabi,South Indian n Chinese
I mostly order South Indian here.
Onion Uttapas are good

Ambience : 2.5/5
Quality of food : 3/5
Service : 3/5
Price :2/5
Mohit Mangal
Raj Mahal reminds of a budget restaurant which provides unpolished services.. It is known for a simple meal that you can use it to fill your tummy.....try to avoid Chinese or other fancy dishes and this restaurant can provide decent Punjabi food...Years ago, rajmahal provided a proper thali but now both, quality and quantity has dropped...

Suggest the owners to improve ambience and improve quality of some food items...

I cant give a rating of zero for this place.

Completely avoid. If you sit out in the courtyard, you might like this place, but if you happen to sit inside or in the ac service area its pure torture.Yucky, sticky tables.Unclean glasses, gross wash basins, the smell of food hanging heavy in the air and rodents running around the place. If the public areas are so unclean I dread to think of the kitchens and other off limit areas in the restaurant.Once upon a time Rajmahal used to be famous for their Idli Chilli and Paav Bhaji, well the dishes are still there but its just tasteless fare now.Best avoided this place and insteaded Kora Gandhi is ahead by miles and miles.
Ayush Rungta
A mid size place with a generic ambience. Pav bhaji and chana masala are my two fav dishes. The service is quick. All in all a good place for quick bites.
Sunil Patel
This place has been there since almost 35 years and still going strong. A typical south Indian hotel serving Punjabi to Mexican. Service is fast. Good place to be if you want EAT food food. Do not expect chillin around here.

Posting after 6 months of the last post above: the food is still so yum. Am getting in love with this place.
GauravM
I visit this place often as it is close to my library. Reasonably priced family type restaurant. Food is upto standards. Service is fine. Car and bike parking is available. You can see often that many people order thaali at lunch hour. Seating is comfortable.
A good place to hangout with family and friends without burning a hole in your pocket!
Manoj Tewani
i give 10/10 on food and quality of service it my personal review as my family dosent like food but one word of caution ac room mein ac shayad kam chalega aur try to avoid non ac dining hall no problem with food atall

The food is OK but the crowd is below standards. the stewards are serving like the are made to do the service forcibly. no one is prepared to listen to your complaints.
Utkarsh Thakare
You want a simple meal which fills your tummy and easy on pockets this is a good place to be. Their "Paav Bhaaji" along with other south indian delicacies is very good. At lunch times the restaurant is frequented by the common man for their lunch "Thaali" (Limited not unlimited) it is quite filling and tasty and easy on pockets.

Nothing fancy about the restaurant.... its just a good old Udupi.
Vilas Shet
Food is good. Delivered almost on time everytime the order is placed.
Rohit Bhansali
I tried North Indian food at Hotel Rajmahal. The food was very good. The waiter over there were very helpful in helping us to identify the best dishes available there and their service was also very good. The ambience of the restaurant is not that attractive at the same time is not bad also. I feel that the food is worth for the money you pay and will recommend it to everyone. It is not a great place to go for any kind of party so I would not suggest someone to arrange a party there.
