There's always something charming about traditional food joints; the people, the decor, service style, and ofcourse the food. On a trip to Nagpur I had the opportunity to try out one such place or as they call it "Bhojnalay".
3 words - Spicy As F**k. But oh so delicious. We devoured some Jhinga, Kaleji, Kheema, Chicken Curry and Mutton Curry at this joint also known as a meat eaters heaven! With food so good and great quantities, we were pleasantly surprised and utterly stuffed, but we just wanted to keep going.. An absolute MUST VISIT in Nagpur!

The place is typically for spicy saoji cuisine lovers. They have the typical masala that goes with every curry irrespective of whether it's fish or chicken. Tried mutton and fish. They had Karad fish and I do not liked it much . Mutton was nice.

An authentic Saoji Experience!
Much was read about this place before visiting. Most of the hyped placed do not live up to the mark. Gladly 'Saoji Jagdish Bhojanalay' isn't in that category.
The people at the coupon counter (yes you've got to buy a coupon before taking a seat) are willingly helpful. The service staff is courteous & efficient. Cleanliness of the premises was a major factor which enhances the experience of the food.
Now coming to the food itself, as mentioned earlier, you have got to buy coupon before taking a seat, the cost includes one dish (chicken, mutton, vegetarian etc) and the accompanying elements are included (unlimited). The main dish is accompanied by gravy, salad, chapati & rice. You have to specify the level of spiciness one you order my suggestion is to go for medium spicy.
The texture & colour of chicken & mutton is almost identical but the taste of each item is unique. The Keema was seemingly much less spicy than chicken & mutton (or maybe I enhanced my spice tolerance level ;) ).
To conclude, this place should be on your 'to visit' list when you visit Nagpur. And if you're already staying in Nagpur & not visited yet, what are you waiting for??
Wonderful Service with Awesome taste. Love to eat from here always. Specially Try to taste Bheja and kaleji which is best but chicken and mutton curry not awesome. This both items is same recipe with no taste. Anyways Super experience with bheja and kaleji everyone should taste from here
Frankly, you are at quite a loss if you haven't been here already. Reason? Because it is Nagpur! And no Saoji inspite of being on Nagpur is pretty much a cultural shock if you ask me.

A culinary tradition that has evolved in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra is, the very spicy Saoji food. (Originated from Halba Koshti tribe) . This is a must try for every food lover visiting Nagpur. Curries made with paya, chicken and mutton cooked with special spice mixes . I gathered from the joint owner that the recipes are not disclosed to outsiders. He suggested me freshly cooked mutton bheja with fulka .the bheja to be eaten while it is hot , else the taste will be lost .The very hot bheja in spicy gravy actually makes smokes coming out of ears , next was dry mutton .exceptionally well cooked. The distinct tastes of various spices used can be perceived easily . The food is spicy and should be eaten with "matha" , a ghol like preparation . Even the recipe of matha was not disclosed , I felt the taste of cummin and coriander in it . The matha does wonders to the digestive system.
There are numerous Saoji bhojnalayas around Nagpur. Saoji Jagdish Bhojnalaya Gandhibagh or the lesser known Om Shakti Saoji bhojnalaya in Golibar Chowk and pintu Saoji are among the better choices .

This is not a very upmarket fancy place. The only thing you will get here is good food at very reasonable rates. The portions are not toooooo large, which has to do a lot with the type of food they serve. Savji cuisine is a bit on the spicy side which is not everybody's cup of tea (or plate of meat if you may). On those lines the comparatively small portions help. If you like it the first time, you can surely order more.
So here is how the system works. You go to the counter and first purchase coupons for the food that you'd like to eat. You pay immediately before actualy even taking your seat. The best part is you pay only for the main dish that you eat. The rice and chapati (indian flat bread) are complementary and you can order as many as you'd like.
We had ordered 4 non vegetarian dishesh for our first set if meals and the taste was soooooo gooooood that we ended up ordering all the non vegetarian dishes they had on the menu (I kid you not!!). To was it all down we ordered their sweetened masala taak (buttermilk) which was all you'd need to end this non vegetarian extravaganza.

One of the Best saojis in Nagpur for non-vegetarians. The smoky effect is the USP of Jagdish though everyone may not like but it is a must visit place. The bhojnalaya is almost 35-40 years old.

Coming to the ambience it's simple and cozy.
The food is the highlight of this place.
Ordered kaleji keema , amazing filled with pieces and the taste was heavenly.
They have a scheme in which you get unlimited chapattis and rice and one can really eat well to the capacity.
Service is very good and they serve chapattis hot.
Pricing is very reasonable and it's a total value for money and high quality place.
Would surely visit on the next visit.
Saoji is an authentic food of Nagpur. By nature it is spicy but now one can choose the spice grade, be it medium or super spicy. I had a 'Gauti' (deshi) chicken and 3 rotis. The taste was as it should be- great! Unfortunately, I had consumed a litre of water to negate the effects of the spice on my palate. It was fun though.
For the food, I rate them 5/5. For the ambience 4 and for the service 3.
In one word its AWESOME

My first place in Nagpur as a food place on the recommendation of a local friend. Ordered chicken saoji and mutton keema saoji. I liked the pricing strategy in the first place with unlimited chapattis and rice. Wrt the food, it was just what I expected from Nagpur authentic cuisine, spicy, oily, pungent,...and saojiness. Everything being on the positive rating.. Mention your choice of spiciness level while ordering... Have the original version of saoji spicy.....

Awesome and most tastiest food. I eats it almost 4 times a week. I have seen lots of tv personalities and sports personality visits jagdish saoji.
Visited the place with my Non-Veg lover friend. They had non-veg and we had veg. They mostly have meal thali type options.
We tried Shev kanda & Baigan Bhartha. Both was really nice. They tried gravy spicy chicken that was also really nice in taste. Cost wise little on high side for Veg. Over all good food.

One of the best Saoji's available in city with authentic taste. Had Saoji mutton thali and the taste was like fire in the Ears. Service was prompt. Try Bheja fry as well.
This place serves traditional Saoji food. Food served here has generous amounts of oil and spice. We ordered dry chicken and mutton. The dry chicken and mutton were awesome. The spice level in both was off the roof. The taste was great and service very prompt. They serve a gravy which is awesome .The guy at the restaurant was very friendly and was more than happy to serve. Rotis and rice is served alongwith the dishes. The gravy mixed with rice made a great combination. There are several Saoji restaurants in Nagpur but Saoji Jagdish bhojanalay rates high among all of them. Visited here specially to taste the spicy dishes they serve. Awesome place for people who love spicy food. This place is not for the weaked hearts who eat less spice.
I had a nice, sumptuous 'Saoji' dinner at Jagdish, during a recent Nagpur visit. I savoured it a lot, especially as I relish Indian regional delicacies and their varying flavours and preparation. Saoji is for those who are fond of hot and spicy preparation, spice flavours being from maharastrian/vidarbha heritage. At Jagdish, it is dish of your choice, but in Saoji preparation, along with regular rotis, rice, salad, papad, buttermilk. Full marks, and I look forward to a few more hot encounters with Saoji food in future.
Well this place is my favourite lunch destination which generally doesn't disappoints you....when ever I go out there i order a sukha chicken thali and gravy alag se which comes with Roti and rice to your capacity and bheja is my favourite here as I only eat bheja here in the town other than my house...overall good ambience and the food is also good best thing is he doesn't allow drinks...so I like it personally
Close you eyes and just enjoy the mouth watering Saoji. Perfect place for family. Definitely the best in city limits. The staff is too polite. They serve saoji according to your specified taste.
Very famous hotel for Saoji Mutton but quality of Mutton is poor. Mainly Masala used in the Mutton dish us not good quality.

This place was recommended to me by one of my friend. I had ordered Veg Patodi with Tandoori Naan.
Be ready to get teary eyed, boy the food was spicy. I was warned by my friend about the spicy food. The patodi was filled with tarri/rassa. Even though being spicy it tasted good. Naan could've been much better it was okaish. You have thaali option too whereas you get free refill of Chapati and White rice. There can be improvement in ambiance to make it look more welcome. Staff was polite enough to help me out with menu and service was good was well.

I found their thali concept a bit different to that in Mumbai or Pune. Here you get a dish and curry of your choice and unlimited chapati and rice. No solkadhis or pandhra-tambda rassas. Otherwise perfect for an empty stomach craving meat.

So finally after a long time we planned for dine in and succeeded. Jagdish Saoji opportunity Gandhi Sagar ( Shukarawari Talaw) So as usual we jumped in to the restaurant and wait for waiter to take our order after some time we got to know we need to use menu card and like self service had to go to counter and give order at main counter and I asked them we need mutton and kheema and egg curry they won't ask me for roti or rice and directly gave me bill....it was shocking as first time I saw somthing like this in Nagpur. Bill before eating anything in Saoji.... Thats new experience for all of us... after some time they started serving us and so nicely they served us rotis and all the dishes we ordered and we got to know rotis and rice is unlimited...
Now here is my actual review... Taste...really great staff... very polite and friendly... order whatever you want you will get everything delicious and rotis and rice hot and warm as you expect all the time... ambience is beautiful. Hygiene was completely maintained... overall one of the best Saoji Restaurant in Nagpur.

Good Place to taste Saoji dishes. As they ask for upfront payment , there should be a proper way to get payment in advance. Waiters way of asking advance payment sometimes does not feel good. Owner can chalk out some way about it.
Nice clean place to try out the famous Saoji food while in Nagpur. Friendly staff and courteous service. Saoji Food can be very spicy and oily hence the staff asks you for 'medium spicy or spicy'. My recommendation is to go for a medium spicy. Fairly priced. Worth trying!
The place is really nice for authentic Savoji Mutton/Chicken. I tried Savoji Mutton curry & Paya kharode here. The taste was really nice. Though we know Savoji recipes for Spicy taste. Here we get moderate spicy Savoji. They have thali system here. Where you get curry with unlimited chapati, Rice & curry. The thing they should offer is bhakari. Overall good place for Savoji curry.
