Review San Gimignano - New Delhi

Priya Khandelwal
Set in central Delhi, with a laid back British surroundings. The restaurant is one of a kind! We were welcomed with very courteous staff and manager. Our serving staff were polite and kind, Mr. Rakesh and Mr. Davindra. Manager, Mr. Sparsh was considerate and heled us chose items that would delight our taste buds. We had pesto pasta, pizza, Panna - Cotta (Must try). Thank you so much for the lovely experience.

Tucked away in the not so frequently visited Imperial Hotel, this is a gem of a place. Their food is amazing and the service top notch. Their Gnocchi and Risotto were to amazing but their Chocolate Fondant was to die for.

Wonderful as always. Impeccable service along with sumptuous Italian food. Of course, the wood fired Pizza is a must try. Food quality and the ingredients are just super. All of this, combined with personalised service, makes San Gimignano one of the top rated restaurants to go to, in Delhi. The deserts selection is just great. Tiramisu and Pistachio icecream is a must try. They have a lovely outdoor area, best for winter days and eve’s.

Spectacular Italian restaurant in the glorious Hotel Imperial. Offering a standard Italian fare, including oven-baked specialties. The pasta was simply perfect. Highly recommend the pappardelle. Greta meat and fish dishes in over. Italian wines available. There is outside and indoor seating. Having a table on the outside patio on a mild evening was perfect. Excellent service. Will return.

One of the best Italian restaurant in Delhi. From the time you’ll enter till the time you’re there you’ll feel piece within. Truly 5 star experience I had there. I had sat outside just beside the fountain and the calming sound of water was exquisite. Don’t look at the prices in the menu. A must visit place for best experience.

San Gimignano Restaurant, nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Janpath, Connaught Place, is an absolute gem that has captivated my heart with its impeccable Italian cuisine and charming ambiance. From the moment I stepped through its doors, I knew I was in for a delightful dining experience, and my expectations were exceeded in every way. Food was delicious, overall a nice experience, highly recommended.

One of the best Italian restaurant in town. From the time you’ll enter till the time you’re there you’ll feel piece within. True 5 star experience I had there. I had sat outside just beside the fountain and the calming sound of water was exquisite. Don’t look on the prices in the menu because you very well knew it was 5star before you came so the cost it according to that. The staff was very cordial in welcoming me and I had a lifetime of an experience there. Will visit again soon Inshallah ❣️

Great experience. One of the best Italian restaurants in delhi. The staff was extremely courteous. The chef would personally check on the quality being served and do modifcations on our request. The wine served is of the top quality. The whole place is adorned with portraits from the actual Sam Gimignano city of Italy. We had a delightful time. Thank you San Gimignano.

Title: An Enchanting Culinary Experience at San Gimignano Restaurant, New Delhi Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) If you're on the lookout for a remarkable dining experience in the heart of New Delhi, look no further than San Gimignano Restaurant, nestled in the bustling Janpath area, near Connaught Place. My recent visit to this gem left me in awe of its outstanding ambiance, exceptional service, and above all, its delectable Italian cuisine. From the moment I stepped into San Gimignano, I was captivated by the charming and inviting atmosphere. The elegant decor, warm lighting, and soothing music created a serene setting, ideal for a memorable meal. The restaurant's tasteful fusion of contemporary and classic design elements added an exquisite touch to the overall dining experience. The courteous and attentive staff welcomed me with genuine smiles and seated me promptly. The level of service I received throughout the evening was unparalleled. The waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menu, providing insightful recommendations and ensuring that my dietary preferences were accommodated. Now, let's talk about the main highlight: the food. San Gimignano's menu offers an authentic selection of Italian dishes, crafted with finesse and passion. I began my culinary journey with their delightful Caprese Salad, a medley of fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and aromatic basil, drizzled with balsamic glaze. The appetizer was a perfect balance of flavors and a fantastic way to start the meal. For the main course, I opted for the classic Lasagna Bolognese, which exceeded all expectations. Layered with perfectly cooked pasta, rich meat sauce, and velvety béchamel, this dish was a symphony of taste and texture. Each bite was a celebration of Italian tradition and culinary expertise. To complement the meal, I paired the dishes with some fine Italian wine from their extensive selection, recommended by their sommelier. The wine perfectly complemented the flavors of the food, enhancing the entire dining experience. As I couldn't resist indulging further, I savored their Tiramisu for dessert. Creamy, light, and heavenly, it was a delightful finale to an already outstanding meal. Apart from the exceptional cuisine, San Gimignano's attention to detail, from the presentation of each dish to the attentive table service, elevated the experience to new heights. The chefs' commitment to using the finest ingredients and their evident passion for their craft was evident in every dish. In conclusion, San Gimignano Restaurant in New Delhi is a culinary treasure that I highly recommend to anyone seeking an authentic Italian dining experience. Whether you're a connoisseur of Italian cuisine or simply looking for a delightful meal in an enchanting setting, San Gimignano exceeds all expectations. I can confidently say that this restaurant has earned a permanent spot on my list of top dining destinations in the city. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for an unforgettable evening.

The stylistic design is fun and ideal for administration. The staff is educated and prompts well all around. The nutrition alongside the drinks is amazing. We asked for a slight outside chicken pizza and a risotto, and the money was right. The bits were amazing. Grinning staff, conscientious and supportive.

After making and breaking plans a few times to dine here finally made it for lunch. I had read a lot of reviews about the place and was slightly taken aback with the size of the restaurant. However the food more than made up for it. We began with the bread basket and the dips that came with it. It was so yummily delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed them. Then came the caprese salad which was good. The scallops followed. Served very nicely, the scallops itself were a little tough but omg the foam that came with it, simply wonderful. The Parmesan and truffle oil soup was okay. Then followed the chicken pizza, the fillets of sea bass in lemon thyme sauce and chicken breast dish. They were all nice but the mashed potato that came with the fish was exceptional. We ordered just one dessert. Some apple one with icecream which was decent. The servers were all attentive and knowledgeable. How ever a little speedier service would have been good. All in all it was a good meal at this restaurant

The staff was very courteous. Must visit for authentic ITALIAN taste. We ordered the vegetable lasagna which is not to be missed along with basil pesto sauce pasta and the ravioli do porcini e funghi saltati which is mouthwatering and flavoursome. For desserts we ordered the chocolate soufflé.
It was a Sunday well spent

On the off chance that you cherish Italian this is an unquestionable requirement visit place. The stylistic layout is delightful and the administration perfect. It must be - it's majestic. The staff is all around educated and prompts well. The nourishment is phenomenal alongside the beverages.. We requested one slight outside chicken pizza and one risotto and it was right on the money. They have picked best of fixings and it makes it worth all the cash. Adored it.The bits were great. Staff grinning, mindful and supportive. Wld love to return for additional.

A superb encounter. Incredible wine, extraordinary Italian food. The fanciest Italian nourishment in Delhi and an incredible choice of Bordeaux. I suggest their Anti-pasti and Pizza. The rissoto was choice. Each and every other Risotto appears to be phony in the wake of having this one. In sweets they don't have much yet their apple cake is divine.

The staff was polite. The sustenance is incredible alongside the drinks. The fanciest Italian nourishment in Delhi and an extraordinary choice of Bordeaux. We request San Gimignano for pizza.Even its comfortable, close sitting inside had that wealth in it.The naturally made wood fire meager outside pizza with sundried tomatoes and rosemary was commanded by mashroom with a trace of chicken on it was good. The staff was cordial and agreeable. Flawless spot.

What a lovely setting! Must visit for a date night with bae. If you love Italian, this is the place to go- to. Their ravioli was good and the pizza was amazing. What I loved the most was the wine selection. a little overpriced but worth it.

Italian food at its best. A lot of places do not bring you Italian cuisine at its authentic best. This place however, is par excellence. The flavours are genuine and leave you wanting for more.

When you feel like Italian. There cant be a better place then this. LOVED everything about this place. Their food & aromas literally takes you to ITALIAN authentic flavours & feel like your sitting in 🇮🇹

San Gimignano happens to be one of the places that I visited after getting recommended by many and it lived upto the expectations. You have a full composure meal inside the restaurant or in the small alfresco setup, you will be given full attention and you will leave with full satisfaction of an Italian meal served by a highly efficient and service oriented staff of the restaurant. As others did to me, I strongly recommend San Gimignano if you search for good Italian food.
Fancy Food
The fanciest Italian food in Delhi and a great selection of Bordeaux. I recommend their Anti-pasti and Pizza. The rissoto was top-notch. Every other Risotto seems fake after having this one. In desserts they don't have much but their apple cake is divine.

Must visit. If you love Italian this is a must visit place. The decor is beautiful and the service impeccable. It has to be - it's imperial. The staff is well informed and advises well. The food is excellent along with the drinks. The main highlight though remains their breads. They have great fresh breads and that really takes the experience to another level. The one issue we faced was lack of many vegertarian dishes.

Its a lovely place with all the good feels.. warm environment great staff.. a must visit place for a wine lover. They have a very serene ambience with slow music in background. The food is also great and served in good quantity

Simply, the best Italian restaurant in the city! The sea bass and the duck breast are for me their best dishes and the ones one should definitely order.

Went to San Gimignano with my best friend on Christmas Day for lunch this Dec 2017. The weather was pleasant and the outdoor seating was absolutely perfect for a winter afternoon in Delhi. The decor was on point and sweetly customized for the added christmas cheer! We ordered a Pizza and a Pasta for mains which were both really tasty. Followed by a really good cup of coffee served with cookies. Just as we were about to clear the bill and leave- guess who arrives? Santa Claus!! It was great fun to be given a goodie bag each with baked goods from the hotel bakery and some other sweets. Its a small gesture but adds a lot to the experience.

Although pricing is a bit on the steeper side compared to other 5 star hotels, its a must visit place in Delhi especially during the winter months when you can enjoy the outdoor seating!

I've eaten here many times over the years and feel it has remained consistent in offering fabulous food and an authentic atmosphere.

THE AMBIANCE:
With its dark wood interiors and overarching black and white photographs of the town of San Gimignano in Italy in the 1930s, the restaurant creates an accurate setting. One feels transported to Italy, making it a fantastic place for a quiet romantic date.

THE SERVICE:
We ate an early lunch on a Monday afternoon, so the place was relatively empty. The service was very attentive without being in your face. At the end of a meal I filled out a card with ratings and gave my personal details. They were attentive to it being my birthday the next day and sent over a chocolate cake and a bouquet of flowers, as I was staying at the hotel!

THE FOOD:
We ordered the "Crema di Parmigiano 'Olio di Tartufo'" soup (a light parmesan cream soup flavored with truffle oil) which was delightfully frothy and cheesy.
For starters, we shared the complimentary bread basket and the "Affetatti Misti" antipasti platter (Italian cold cut antipasti platter with a variety of cured meats served on a warm rosemary focaccia). The latter was presented beautifully with the meats placed on the focaccia bread like a pizza.
For main course, we shared the "Bianca Royale" pizza (the Bianca pizza with artichokes, tomato slice, red onion, spinach and bacon). The pizza was one of the most authentical pizzas I've had in India, with the subtlety and delicate taste of each ingredient really shining through.

We washed everything down with Bira beers. This was a perfect meal for two, as we felt completely stuffed!

I highly recommend this place for a fantastic Italian meal in Delhi.

For an in-depth review you can visit my blog at nooranandchawla.com

The moment that you arrive you are greeted by the superb maitre d and welcomed into this very comfortable restaurant. The bread basket is wonderful and is a clue to the splendid quality of the courses to come. The chef is truly gifted and prepares food that may initially sound simple but actually has great complexity, procedures and depth. This is the great Imperial Hotels finest gastronomic jewel hidden in the backwaters of the hotel, a light should be shone upon it.

The right words to use for this place are “EXCELLENT” “PERFECT” “FANTASTIC “ one can close their eyes and order anything, it is going to be an experience. The staff is super courteous and warm. We went as a family with two toddlers and were super impressed with everything.

The food is remarkably good, you would think you are in Italy. Really good selection for vegetarians. Service is brilliant - attentive, friendly and very professional. I ate alone and was made to feel very welcome. A really relaxing and lovely evening.

''Sanjim'' as we call it..authentic Italian food. Crispy, thin crust pizza's, all kinds of authentic pasta's and soups. Its a very famous restaurant amongst many celebrities. You might catch a glimpse of one or two..Tip- Please book a table in advance.

I recently got to know about this place from EatTreat's Ultimate Bucket List, and I really liked it!

This Italian restaurant is the perfect spot if you and your date would love to get a hand tossed pizza fresh out of a wood-fired oven along with some traditional Italian classics. The all-white, airy ambience spells romance like nothing else. The restaurant is fashioned after the sights you see while walking on cobblestone paths in Italy, and it certainly teleports you to another world. You can even choose to sit in the indoor dining room with vintage wooden interiors.

What to have: Homemade Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli, Donato Pizza, and the Wild Berry Panna Cotta with Fruit Minestrone.
Perfect for: Outdoor Dining, Fine-Dining, Italian Classics

The Imperial is one of the oldest five star of delhi and it shows in evry bit of it. It has that old Royal's (Khandany Rayees) feel to it with attention to detals.
...We picked San Gimignano for pizza.Even its cozy, close sitting interior had that richness in it.The freshly made wood fire thin crust pizza with sundried tomatoes and rosemary was dominated by mashroom with a hint of chicken on it was good (i was expecting chicken domination).
you can choose drinks from their wide range of wines to a company ur dish.

This cosy restaurant is an easy miss if the check-in staff didn't point it out to us...perfect for when you feel like a simple bit of pasta, the chef was kind enough to cook my simple garlic, chilli and prawn sphagetti for me! Delicious

Love it! Have been there several times and I think its the best Italian you can find in delhi! Most authentic and delicious. Especially a spaghetti they make in truffle oil & pizzas with artichokes! Desert is even more yum! And the ambience is beautiful. Great service as well.

One of the best interior and ambience. Had minestrone soup, parmesan soup, thin crust spinach pizza, veg lasagne, risotto, something of cheese and tomato, lamb with pasta. There tiramisu and hot chocolate pudding was outstanding. Service could be improved a bit. All in all the time was well spent.

I can not have big buffets as my appetite is small. So I chose san gimignano for a Sunday brunch over there buffet at 1911. This place is so European in every sense and weather made it all the more beautiful. We ordered one thin crust chicken pizza and one risotto and it was spot on. They have chosen best of ingredients and it makes it worth all the money. Loved it.

Before i come to the restaurant, my thoughts on the imperial hotel. The ambience is exquisite, the cleanliness is amazingly good. I visited this yesterday evening and it was almost full.

I dont recall the exact name of the pizza i ate..it was a thin crust with buffalo cheese topping, tomato and capsicum.. Very light on the stomach.. I choose the version that had no bacon. The standard size has 8 slices and i was able to easily eat 5.

The service quality was good, albeit slow.. Their attention to customer detail is good. I did not take any pic of the dishes but have taken pics of the hotel interiors which i have posted.

I felt this restaurant is extremely expensive.. Good for a special occasion visit only.

The culture and heritage associated with this hotel because of its traditional outlook really adds up to the experience of eating at this restaurant. The food was excellent - it's an excellent place to enjoy an evening of a whole culinary experience.

In the midst of workload and slight boredom, a little early Christmas celebration came like a breath of fresh air. The Christmas celebrations began at The Imperial New Delhi which was decorated like a colourful Christmas wonderland over an afternoon tea with live counters and a master cook on a wintery afternoon. The indulgent buffet was adorned with perfectly crafted white Christmas trees and starry decor which spelled understated luxury. The event started with Chef Prem Kumar Pogakula introducing us to The Christmas Banter. The Imperial has organised this Christmas banter to offer a slice of this feast featuring all that goes into making Christmas in the hotel an artful treat.

The Imperial, New Delhi celebrated Christmas Banter on 16th December and I was invited to the event. The courtyard of San Gimignano, decorated beautifully with magnificent looking Christmas tree, ornaments, garlands and lights, looked nothing short of a spectacle! The Imperial’s lobby has a festive look with a beautiful red and white Christmas theme.

The high tea had traditional Christmas goodies ranging from Christmas Pudding with Brandy sauce, Strawberry and Passion fruit jelly; Pandoro bread with Mascarpone cheese; scones filled with clotted cream, lemon curd and strawberry jam; dipped chocolate strawberry; minced pie and more with Mulled wine. I loved the strawberry and passion fruit jelly, lemon posset and the dipped chocolate strawberry! Chef Prem K Pogakula – Executive Sous Chef The Imperial New Delhi interacted with the bloggers and they shared the recipe of making of Lemon Posset and 5 ingredient chocolate brownie with us. Then Chef Rakesh Rana weaved his magic, he made his special Flambéed Christmas Pizza in the outdoor wood fired oven at San Gimignano. The event closed with Santa joining the festive cheer and giving us Christmas goodies! It was a beautiful event which I loved being part of! It was wonderful to meet Ms. Ruchi Jain and Ms Aparupa Ganguly, who had put together this wonderful event together.

I was here for dinner with an old colleague. I did approach it with some trepidation, as I am not too fond of the food at the coffee shop buffet.

It is a discreet little restaurant quietly hidden away. The atmosphere is sophisticated, and the wood panelled walls speak of a quiet elegance,

We shared the salad, a Caesar and then I had the duck. Perfectly cooked, with a wonderful fragrance and flavour. Superb.

The Caesar was a marvel. Excellent indeed.

Highly recommended for an excellent dinner, and one where you can have a good conversation.

Visited October 2016

Highly overrated. Food is merely good, nowhere near great. Beef Carpaccio did not taste fresh, which is the worst thing you can do to any sort of Carpaccio. Wine list is OK, but massively overpriced, even for 5 star deluxe hotels. If the food was great, the price could be justified. But it's not, and then the price really feels ridiculous. Literally no reason to go here over places like Artusi.

With serenity in its ambience and beauty in its interiors, San Gimignano is a place where you will find peace and very good food too. While the attractive built remains to be the centre of attraction here, its food is also something worth paying attention to. Located in the Imperial, San Gimignano delivers a rich variety of Italian delicacies with a capacious seating space, beautiful designs and an eye-catching look. I have been here a few times before and have never found it unsatisfactory in any way. It houses a variety of pizzas with rare and different toppings which you would generally not find at any other pizza joint, their thin crusts are also commendable and so are their raviolis.

If we talk about the desserts, there isn’t much that I have had here but their apple cake is very good.

FINAL TAKE-

1). Interiors-

Beautiful in every way.

Has splendid designs, beautiful chairs, adorned tables and other to give the place an amazing look

5/5

2). Ambience-

Comforting and soothing. The place gathers a decent crowd and sets you up for a very nice dining experience.

3). Food-

As already mentioned, their broad variety of Italian dishes is applaudable and all the presentation of these dishes are also good.

4/5

On the whole, if you are looking put dine to dine at a decent Italian restaurant near Janpath, do visit San Gimignano.

A small n cosy place in one among the most beautiful hotels in delhi, The Imperial.

Although this is not a new restaurant, I had not heard of it till recently and it was on my wish list ever since..
I deliberately decided not to read other reviews as they often effect your opinion on what to expect and what to eat..

Since we hit the place on monday, it was obviously not crowded (Me n my better half have decided to try new places on non-crowded days so we can get good service without fighting the mad traffic)..

We decided to ask our server to recommend their specials for vegetarians.. The recommendations were the Raviole Porcini and Putana Pizza, a white base pizza (yes u read that right, no tomato base on a pizza)..

The Ravioli was yumm.. Perfectly cooked, the sauce was outstanding.. Highly recommended..
The pizza too was delicious.. It was just a little undercooked towards the centre half base, and outer base was crispy.. But I would say it was a great find..

The prices can feel on a higher side, but then I'd say lets not compare the prices of the restaurants in markets and the one's in 5 stars.. Its like comparing apples and oranges.. Both are different and its difficult to say which one is better..
SOURAV
San Gimignano,,, which lacks in style,,,, makes up for on the menu..... This understated gem has managed to maintain its position by a consistently delicious food selection,,, blending flavours nd ingredients.... Their grilled meats nd greens are just exquisite,,, so as to their wood-fired pizzas.....

Okay-ish overpriced food. That's how I can put it. Am a big fan of Italian food and this was quite a let down considering the fact that it's in a five star heritage hotel and maybe I had expected better. I mean it doesn't compare with the likes of Tonino or Artusi. Probably even a Jamie's Italian would have served better fare. And the comparison of the quality of food to the prices being charged are atrocious! Ordered for wine and the cold cuts platter for the starters. Some of the cold cuts didn't seem or taste fresh at all. Had a duck ravioli and pepper chicken for the main course which were passable. For the desserts we ordered a limoncello sorbet which was probably the only saving grace of the entire meal. Overall maybe not bad food. But definitely definitely not worth the money charged. I have had better.

Fancy intimate place with very good service and ambience. Food can range from good to very good.
Who went: 2 of us on a Saturday night. Restaurant was dead (maybe because it was very cold, their outside section seemed haunted with absolutely no one).
Our server finally managed to squeeze us inside in a nice warm corner.
Ordered for Sweet pea dish (appetiser: pic attached): This was very very very good. I relished it completely. The flavours were just perfect, seasoning bang on, presentation was good and brought a big smile on my face. My friend ordered for the Carpaccio (non veg) which as per him was very good too.
In mains, I went for thin crust pizza on a whole wheat base. This honestly could have been from anywhere. Lacked taste. I left it mid way.
In dessert we ordered for warm apple cake with ice cream: This was once again very good (atleast the ice cream part).
Their service is very very good and I would go back to this place without thinking sometime soon.
Selection of wine is incredible.
It also helps that Imperial per say has an old world charm to itself which can easily make you forget that you are in Central Delhi.
Jhinuk Sen
The perfect place for that fancy European fare. The prices are of course on the higher side but you get what you pay for. I have eaten there twice and every time it had been so perfect. On my last lunch there had the tomato, mozzarella salad with basil and pesto - it was very, very good. I am not a fish lover but I tried the sea bass with capers and it was perfect. If you have the money to spend - then head here.

The Imperial Delhi's Food & Beverage outlets have seen a sharp drop in standards - I must say. Once these were crowd pullers and sadly, today they aren't.

Because, my guest - insisted in meeting in Connaught Place area and on having Italian food - I chose this place. But, what a let down.

On a busy weekday, in the Central Business District area - we walked into an absolutely empty restaurant at lunch time. The staff had boredom written on their face. A hostess like team member was on our table at the patio - where we chose to sit. All she did was to come and intrude during the meal - several times to find out how the food was - which was actually rather bad.

We ordered a soup - initially we wanted to have the seafood lemon soup but, were informed that this was not available. So, we were left with no choice but to have the minestrone soup - which was watery and with some vegetables swimming in the liquid. Our main course was an asparagus risotto and a pasta. Both the dishes - were very average - rather insipid in taste and the asparagus had just two stems of asparagus thrown in. It was a gooey paste - completely doused in cheese. The dessert was a gooey paste of chocolate with a single macaroon - that was hard!

All of this when there were just two guests in the entire restaurant. Obviously the kitchen was not paying any attention. The Hotel Management also needs to be responsive and show a welcoming attitude to local clientele.

The cost of the lunch - INR 5370 for 3 dishes - close to USD 90...It doesn;t cost that much in Manhattan even.

My inference - The Imperial is meant "now" only for high end foreign tour group visitors - who don't really have choice over where they stay and where they eat - because, its all fixed in the itinerary. For the local guests, The Imperial could not care less.

The Imperial Hotel is one place left in Delhi that truly exudes the colonial charm in all it's glory. San Gimignano gives you some off that old world and sophisticated ambience to enjoy a nice Italian meal. Their out door seating area is a true blessing in the right weather, like lunch on a crisp December afternoon.

The service is very courteous (4/5). The food menu at lunch is quite basic and the food is decent. We ordered minestrone soup (3/5), pizza with some exotic veggies (3.5/5), braised pork (3/5) and followed it up with some coffee. The bread basket with the soup and the cookies with the coffee are a nice touch.

I would definitely go back here for the ambience (5/5). When I want some really good Italian food, there are other places in Delhi I would prefer.

This is NOT the Italian place you visit for pizza! Go for antipasto, pasta, and if there were such a thing pre- and post-pasta! Mama Mia, this is really Italian! The wine too-

Looking forward for a nice, quiet evening? This is the place.

It’s one of those places where I would go back just for the ambience. Of course, rest is worth a mention too. Situated in the magnificent Imperial hotel, San Gimignano makes your travel away from hustle bustle of Janpath, in no time. The quaint little place has an outdoor sitting area too which is perfect for this weather. You feel the nip in the air as you quietly sip your red wine. The setting is very European, done in all white with wicker furniture. We ordered a salad and spaghetti pasta which came with a complimentary bread basket. Both dishes we ordered were basic yet enjoyable. The salad was crunchy, fresh and adequately dressed. We asked the spaghetti to be light without cheese, with olive dressing; was perfect. The portions were good. Staff smiling, attentive and helpful. Wld love to go back for more.

This variety is lacking. But if u tell them what you want, the restaurant does make it available. Overall, a must visit in Delhi for Italian lovera

The food was fabulous. I loved the asparagus risotto. The pizza could have been better, not a fan of rosemary. The chocolate cake was great. The star of the evening would be the wine, light white mild wine. It was exactly what I wanted, the waiter recommended it. The place is cozy and gives you the feel of an authentic Italian restaurant. The service was perfect . I have no complains.

I just finished a wonderful dining experience here. Not only was the food excellent, but so was the service. I left quite happy. I recommend the chicken Marsala.

Royalty and food. Situated in the magnificent imperial San Gimignano takes you away from the hustle bustle of Delhi to a more 'imperial' era. You feel lazy and happy and then the food arrives. Post which you feel lazier and much much happier!
Terrific food and a royal setting provide the perfect fine dinning experience.
Highly recommended.

If you're craving the most amazing wood fired pizzas and a nice ambiance to go along with it your search stops here! San Gimignano offers some of the best pizzas in town and their pepperoni sausage pizza is the BOMB! The pastas are mediocre and the rest of the stuff is pretty average! Like I said this is the place if you're craving pizzas and nothing else. A word of advise, do make reservations specially during lunch time as the inside sitting area is not that big and the outside area is doable only in winters!

Went to San Gimignano last night. There were 2 of us. We sat outside as the weather and ambience were perfect. Infact no one at the restaurant was seated inside. Maybe because the inside ambience is a bit drab compared to the outside seating. We decided to start with wine. However, our server didn't seem to know much about wines and neither do they have a sommelier. So we asked for the Manager, who helped us choose a wine to our liking. We were served a bread basket along with olive oil, balsamic, and a mayo kind of dip. I agree with another reviewer that the mayo dip just doesn't go with the bread! The breads were good, though, and so was the quality of olive oil. Since we ordered a bottle of wine, and were taking our time and savoring it, they served us another basket without our asking, which was nice.We also ordered their signature cocktail, Chak de Phatte, which is basically LIIT with Blue Curacao and Sprite instead of Coke. I am not sure if it was worth INR 1200+taxes, but then all their cocktails start at INR 900.For the main course I wanted something with truffles, but sadly they don't serve truffles. Being an Italian restaurant in a luxury hotel, I would expect truffles. Anyhow we shared a Mushroom risotto which was good. The server was nice enough to give Truffle oil with it, which again was good quality and full of flavor. Then came Dolce time, and we were recommended the Molten chocolate cake with Mascarpone ice cream. Very good. I particularly liked the ice cream. We spent a total of INR 10,500 that included 1 bottle of Chilean wine for INR 5000, 1 cocktail, 1 main course and 1 dessert.Expensive but worth it on a special night out.Only thing I had to keep asking for my water glass to be refilled. The server was more enthusiastic about refilling my wine glass :)All in all it was a very nice evening. Recommended.

Went here for a dinner date. This place is adorable and very classy. It put us back by a couple of many grand but who can avoid their champagne!
The duck was delishhhhh. Medium rare and perfect. We also ordered a soup which was seriously incredible. I think it would qualify as a dish for the gods. Yes it was that amazing. I don't recall the name exactly but i think they called it apple caramel creme or something. Also it was valentines day and they had a
set menu. All in all a must visit for a date or if you are looking to impress someone with your restaurant choosing skills. You will never go wrong with this one!

Had read about San Gimignano in Little Black Book, they were listed in the 8 best places for wine in delhi! We finally got around to visiting this delightful restaurant for a special occasion. The outdoor setting is lovely (I would never choose to sit inside, it felt a touch stuffy and boring) and so great weather is a must to truly enjoy this place. Their wine list is indeed fabulous, but if you are not looking to order a bottle, the selection by the glass is really limited. The food is excellent. We ordered the risotto with asparagus and the lasagne bolognese. The risotto was fantastic-beautifully cooked, with tallegio cheese stirred into the cooking. The truffle oil flavor was distinct but not overbearing. I wish it had been infused throughout the dish- I feel like I tasted it only in the first couple of forkfuls. The lasagne was surprisingly light and delicious, but my partner felt it was lacking a bit in authenticity. There weren't as many layers of lasagne sheets as you normally expect-possibly because of the individual portion plate it was baked in. We skipped dessert as there wasn't anything particularly special on the dessert menu. The portion sizes are adequate, and the complimentary bread basket was nice. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I do wish a little more thought had gone into the dips accompanying the bread- olive oil and balsamic vinegar are fine, but a chilli mustard dip that tasted like it came out of a jar was odd for a fine dining Italian restaurant. An olive tapenade or a pesto might have been more appropriate. The service was great, despite a fairly busy dinner service. All in all, we had a great meal. San Gimignano certainly deserves to be on a list of special occasion restaurants that is fairly decent value for money for the overall experience. Expect to pay between 5.5k-6.5k for two entrees and 2 glasses of wine-more if you order the
more elaborate meat main courses.

It doesn't matter if your sitting on prime property at a prime location. One needs to get all 3 things right to make it a place worth visiting again - ambience , service and food.
This place our second visit after a gap of almost 5 years proved to be as ordinary as the first one.
We got the pasta in white sauce , pasta in red sauce , risotto and pizza with artichokes and greens.

We got the outdoor seating and ambience is good but the entire mains was served cold. One can understand that it's winter and food sometimes gets cold while serving but this was not that .
Other than the rissotto , we dint enjoy any of the mains. Flavours were ordinary.
Tiramisu is delicious that was the best dish out of everything we got.

Excellent food but very little for us vegetarians. They even offered goat cheese with the pizza since there was very little in the veg menu (since I don't even eat egg). Pasta was one of the best as well. It was empty that day and the service was fine and the atmosphere was very good as well. This happened like 4-5 years ago. We didn't have dessert that day. Cost about inr 3400 for 2. The same dishes would probably be close to 5-6k inr today.

Nice place , great service . Appetizers were rely Gud . Loved the prawns on the main course but the aglio olio was Gud but must say I have had better .garlic was less and touch less on seasoning . But over all loved the wine and the experience . Risotto was lovely . Didn't enjoy the desserts much . Couldn't taste the coffee in tiramisu and the brûlée was rely Gud in taste , was a platter with espresso , orange and the chocolate brûlée . I found it to be runny ,so when I asked the waiter he told me that it is traditionally not baked but cooked like a sabayon, wasn't very convinced cuse it was runny . Over all good food and great service .i loved the place . Definately expensive but worth going to .

Its a place where I have been twice now and they just dont know how to make something average or bad.

Even the complimentary breads were delicious.

I had the chicken breast with red wine sauce accompanied by roasted vegetables salad. It was unbelievably outstanding. Wine was good.

Only downside here is that it can create a big hole in your pocket. A really big one!

Luckily for me, both the times, I was treated by my boss :)

Amazing experience. A very nice place to eat Italian food. Superb wines to try as well. The lights, table arrangement, service all make the overall ambience very pleasant. If you are tired and want a nice place esp in summers when you can't sit out, probably the best place to be. Definitely a 5 pointer.

There is a pervasive air of pretentiousness that is turn off for me. Had to do some name dropping to get table outside in the courtyard and as it turned out the courtyard remained mostly empty throughout the evening. Go figure!

Both food and service are hit and miss.

As one would imagine, a restaurant at the Imperial isn’t VFM either…

This place is highly over rated. Service is very bad and the staff is not courteous. First of all they do not allow outside cakes in the restaurant. While making the reservation, they promised us to give us a nice quite table next to the fountain but when we reached there they had not made any arrangement in this respect. Infact we had to guide the staff and ask them to re-arrange the chairs at a table and make space for us. We odered a bottle of wine and requested 2 people from the staff to decant the wine and serve us. it took them 20 min to first get the wine and they never got the decanter even after repeated requests. The hospitality is not the best and I would not recommend to to this place if you are looking for 5 start standard service or food.
We were very disappointed.

excellent food. needs a bit more precision in its descriptions on the menu. The carapaccio is the best in delhi..perfectly balanced. The duck liver terrine is not a terrine.. rather actual liver thats been panfried (and its not foie gras either) the side accompniments though needed to be sweeter to balance the flavour. all up better than any other italian place in town..great outside setting (the inside isnt nice at all) and very good service.

Must must try their caesar salad and saffron risotto!!!! Pasta wasn't to die for but pretty authentic in comparison to other wanna be Italian restaurants. The breads were super fresh and literally melting in the mouth! Kudos to the chef!

SG @ Imperial is technically one of the best Italian restaurants in the capital but for the pricing. The food is carefully brought out and served well. It's all married to a nice wine list and there is a 'maintained' ambience. Still makes Taro think that there could be a huge market for VFM Italian food.

Great place to eat, food is outstanding as always....service is personalized given the size of the place. One just needs to close his eyes and give his credit card when the bill comes...!!! It is an expensive place no doubt...
Sugandha Agnani
One of the best Italian restaurants in town!! The variety is good and the ambience for outdoor seating is outstanding!!

Must try the salmon pizza!!

Dined here with my wife for our first wedding anniversary about a week after having dinner at Travertino at The Oberoi. While the service is is excellent, the food is just 'pretty good.' The wine is also way overpriced. Honestly, if i am ever craving Italian again, which happens often, I'm going back to Travertino.

Imperial undoubtedly has the best food compared to other 5 star restaurants.... San Gimignano serves superb Italian... Tried the minestrone, caprese and pizza..... No complaints at all..... Walked out with a big smile.... :D

A beautiful and quiet outdoor patio with some authentic Italian cuisine makes San Gimignano a class apart. Located in the classic Imperial Hotel, the chefs really do justice to the wood fired pizzas, rack of lamb and grilled meats. It is the perfect place for a quiet dinner with a friend or loved one.
